To whom it may concern, I'll make this brief and short. Funny enough I made the same set of mistakes too and trust me I paid for it dearly.
This topic is created to talk about CV's, for job interviews and other related issues I'm very sure this forum has a lot to offer.

1.5/10 times you job search it takes a miracle to come across a job description that fits your qualifications, these days job applicants are now being smart by applying for jobs they know they are not 100% eligible and luck has seem to shine on a few.

So I'll go straight to the point, I'm not an HR personnel by profession neither do I run nor work for a recruitment agency but during the short period of time i've spent in the work force I've been in the heart of two "major recruitment processes" and here are my submissions (to whom it may concern).

Your CV matters a lot

If you're connected to people in HIGH places then this gist isn't for you (apologies).
I come across CV's I don't even go through up to 2minutes on a happy day when recruiting, and even when I want to be fair by going back to those CV's I still can't push them to the next stage.

Name your CV

Some people give their CV awkward names, the name you saved that file on your phone or pc matters a lot, recruiters do not have time to start searching for Mr A's CV after a good first time review. Your CV should carry your name ex "Obi Adamu Ojo CV" this is simple enough. I've seen qualified candidates loosed on jobs due to this error.

For Christ sake, use a good format for your CV

An HR friend of mine specially picked a candidate for a job listing because of his presentation and organizational skills, ask me again? She said she loved the way the guy took his time to carefully edit and format his CV, she said for him to do this it shows he has the potential to show good presentation and organizational skills. I've seen most CV's that looks like the contents are suffocating in the A4 paper, no margins, no tables, no headers, in Nutshell those CV's portray poor presentation skills.
And it may interest you to know that most of these poorly formatted CV's have good content.
There are generic formats of writing a good CV, Google them and apply. I went through a CV and after seeing the required contents I was looking for the candidates personal details, na the bottom page I go find am just before (that candidate head get oil) I had to bring it forward and do it the right way before approving for an interview invite.

Source for Quality Contents and keywords

Content is key, just like an exam answer script there are reasons people score 100, 80, 60, 50, even 0. What you have in that CV speaks for you, as a fresh accounting graduate nobody would penalise you for having up to 2 years experience and 3 professional degrees but there are certain contents we need to see in your CV failure to have these contents the Applicant tracking software may not be friendly even if the human eye may let go most times.

Get someone to review your CV

Designing and sourcing for contents can be very tedious a job for 1 man and this may lead to error of omission or not being able to spot an obvious mistake in your CV. For this singular reason and many more you need to get good hands to review your CV either paid or free.
People may further compound your woes by giving you conflicting theories don't worry about that at that point in time you would have gained more insight to know which is which.

That's all for now, I'll share more when I learn new things.

Mummy Debbie,I am tired of applying to these jobs adverts pls.

How can I stay glued to this thread for the past 3 months with different applications to your adverts here without getting even a common invite? It sounds funny right?

At a time,I began to think if these adverts posted here are for real!

And besides,I haven't seen people come back to this thread to make comments of getting jobs. The chance is obviously less than 3% of the total views on this thread.

Common guys,I dont wanna be fooled.

I've gotten 3 jobs on nairaland, that's after my too much shakara. Obviously something is wrong with your application process, either CV or cover letter or not strictly adhering to application formats or not being qualified in the first place. I would have loved to carry your mata for my head but you spoke I'll and not grateful so I'll pass, I pray heaven remembers you soon (that's me being nice).

Edited

On a second thought, send me a PM I wanna help review your application process. Don't be frustrated fam! I know say life strong one kind

Cheer up and network with sound minds.

Nice Nice cheesy

I'm partially in HR too, and I can relate with most of what you highlighted here.

Some people are just non challant about their CVs and it shows

That non challant attitude has been a death blow to many over the years. Na God dey help person but some people's CV just be like say dem beg dem to apply for the job, you'll immediately regard them as un serious even if that may not truly be the case.

Howdy?

Bro, shii is real and life is hard. You gotta be your own motivation and consultant. It's okay to feel tired and frustrated once in a while, but pick yourself up and keep moving. I know a man with 22 million debt, a crashing business and bills to pay, I also know a graduate with an 80k job with the whole family depending on him sote dude no fit save 2,500 a month.

My point is everybody is just pushing, things are not always green at the other side. Motivate you son!

You may not be wrong but Appliedmaths is absolutely right.

It depends on what he wants to be and achieve in the future.

For example, I want to be an engineer. The probability of actualizing this by teaching (even though it gives me time for myself and saves me money) is low.

Sometimes, we need to pass through hard and uneasy conditions to actualize what we dreamt of.

Big man wassup?

Profandie:

Teaching isn't something that will catapult him?
I respect your opinion but who told you teaching is not a good career?
From 8am till 2pm earning 30k while maybe from 8am till 9pm earning 50k no time for himself
Teaching is one of the most lucrative careers in Nigeria. If he knows his ways ,from 2pm till 9pm he can earn more maybe through lessons and it will even be more than the 50k job at Bariga
Its choice anyways
I rather earn 30k close to my house and have enough time for myself to develop by reading and studying than working from 8am to 9pm to one far place coming back so Late and not having a time for myself
Do you know that people are making 350-400k teaching? Its just knowing the right school and having the passion and also the credentials.
As I said before ,it depends on the person that wears the cap shaa.
A wonderful morning to y'all

Your points are valid, but kind you you're talking to a guy that has 2years class room teaching experience, the pay was good even without any teaching certification but that wasn't my final destination.

We no need contact ifa to know that most of the teachers in most private schools are fresh graduates looking for something to keep body and soul running. Some get caught there and live on 500k yearly salary, not trying to sound proud but this is the reality. There's money in teaching only if you have your certificates to back you up and we both know the OP is a make shift teacher same way I was and many other youths.

Now is the time for him to break away and get that industry career going even though this may not be directly related. Don't be caught in that Web too, I moved from 25k teaching to something times 2 and good extra then to something magnificent which is not still my final destination.

my point is now is the time for the OP to move and set the ball rolling, he's not a certified teacher and wouldn't earn much per say.

How your afternoon, hope you no see the rain?

Pls house, I need your advice on this.

Is it advisable to leave a teaching job of #30000 very close to my house at Abule egba for a job of #60000 at Bariga where I will work for 2 shifts and the 2nd shift my last till 9pm?

Asides career growth, calculate your T.fare and feeding on a daily basis. Forget about closing 9, you're a guy, does the job provide room for climbing the ladder? If you'll spend 25k tops monthly and the job experience is something way better compared to "by force" teaching then take it.

These are the beginning stages, you might wanna think of building your brand now and trust me accumulating teaching experience is not something that'll catapult you.
