PoliticsEchocho Behind ‘faceless’ Kogi State PDP Concerned Group—credible Members Allian by aproko247(op): 6:25pm On Jul 19, 2015
The ‘Kogi State PDP Concerned Group’ has been described as a faceless by the ‘Credible PDP Members Alliance.’

This followed a petition written by ‘Kogi State PDP Concerned Group’ and submitted to the PDP Governors’ Forum, expressing their displeasure over the candidacy of the present governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada, in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

Reproduced below is the response to the petition by the ‘Kogi State PDP Concerned Group’.

ECHOCHO HAS FAILED MANY TIMES BEFORE, HE WILL FAIL AGAIN: A RESPONSE TO A ‘PASSIONATE PLEA BY KOGI STATE CONCERNED PDP GROUP’ SUBMITTED TO PDP GOVERNORS FORUM

We refer to the irresponsible petition that was submitted by a faceless organisation KOGI STATE PDP CONCERNED GROUP to the PDP Governors Forum dated 8th of July 2015 and submitted at the Ondo State Liaison Office on the 9th of July 2015.

We want to state for the record that the above named group and its members are unknown to the People Democratic Party and its members in Kogi State. This group fits the bill of the various faceless groups that the opposition have created to engender instability in our party. The fallacies contained in the petition further buttress our position.

We do not need to go far to know the sponsors of this petition as they have engaged in this macabre dance of shame and falsehood for the past 3 and a half years.

The publication bears all the hallmarks of Alh Jibrin Isah also known as Echocho. The main sponsor of this petition believes Kogi Governorship is his birth right but he is not ready to battle for it in a free and fair contest. Instead, he has chosen to dedicate his life and earnings to trying to get the ticket through the backdoor.

His first sojourn to claim the ticket of PDP was in January 2011 when he emerged from nowhere to contest for the party’s primaries. Our memories are still clear as to how the lights went off in the stadium and in a twinkle of an eye, the results were changed to favour this former ED who contributed in no small measure to the fall of Afribank Plc.

It was reported then that to get the lights off, MR BACKDOOR GOVERNOR entered into a diabolical pact with the son of the then Governor to hand over power to him after he has completed 4 years. But God saved the people of Kogi State and his diabolical plans were cut short when the January 2011 primaries were cancelled by the courts.

His next ignoble outing was during the rescheduled PDP primaries of September 2011 where he participated and scored a humiliating one (1) vote.

An even more dismal outing for this self- acclaimed Gubernatorial by-force candidate was the recent presidential election where PDP scored a shameful 34 Votes in his Ajiolo Ojaji polling unit. It beats us how somebody who could not deliver his polling unit to PDP in the last elections will seek to become the gubernatorial candidate of PDP.

After instituting and losing over 20 frivolous cases against the governor in all the courts of the federation and losing all free and fair contests in the state, The only conclusion, one can draw from Mr BACKDOOR Governor’s latest antics is that he knows he cannot win any free and fair election in Kogi State but he has availed himself to used by the opposition to frustrate Governor Wada’s re-election bid so that they can have a smooth ride in Kogi State using the dirty methods of mudslinging and continuous rabble rousing that has become second nature to him. He has failed many times before, he will fail again.

PoliticsSaraki Still Worships Tinubu—dele Momodu by aproko247(op): 7:33am On Jul 15, 2015
Celebrated media mogul, Dele Momodu, in a recent interview, explained why he threw his weight behind the senate presidency of former Kwara State governor, Bukola Saraki, who is now a Senator, against the wish of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu. Excerpt;

Your thoughts about President Muhammadu Buhari seems to have changed compared to before he assumed office, why I am surprised at your comment because I have never changed. I am the biggest supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari today. All I have done is to tell the president what people are saying outside, that is my job.

We don’t tell our leaders the truth. I told former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, the truth throughout his tenure. This is detailed in my forthcoming book, titled, ‘Pendulum, a book of prophesy’. Everything I told President Jonathan happened. I owe that to our president too today. Once you become the president in Nigeria, people stop telling you the truth. They only tell you what you want to hear. I am a stakeholder in this government.

I wonder what would have happened to me if the PDP had returned to power. I was already under constant threat. I received threat messages. I had to name all the numbers anonymous because they were all attacking me for supporting Buhari. I didn’t support the president because I wanted anything from him. I supported him because I believed at this time of our lives, we need a father-figure, what I called the Mandela- option in Nigeria. And I thought Buhari, as a man of integrity, of impeccable character, fits that bill.

But, three months after the election, Nigerians are getting impatient because most of them cannot wait for even one second. I was the first to write an article titled, ’In Search Of Patience’, telling the people to exercise patience with the man. But being patient does not mean we should fold our arms indefinitely. There are things that can still be done.

I found a proverb somewhere which says ‘the meat of antelope tastes very good, but while it is cooking, we can still make do with groundnut’. While we are waiting for that big action, some things must keep us going, whether popcorn, ice cream or something. If the National Assembly, within some minutes, approved about 15 Special Advisers; so, what is stopping us from picking our National Security Adviser, if we have to change the one there now.

How about the Chief of Staff, the Principal Secretary, the Secretary to the Federal Government? The longer it takes, the longer the tension, and also the longer the pressure on Mr President. I want the president to know that if they begin to put pressure on him, things may begin to fall apart. Had it been some things are already in place, I am sure the tension would have reduced.

CelebritiesDavido Breaks Silence On NDLEA Probe by aproko247(op): 2:20pm On Jul 13, 2015
Young Nigerian singer, David ‘Davido’ Adeleke, has reacted to reports that the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, was looking into a music video he recently shot with an American artiste, Meek Mill, showing a white substance that looked like cocaine.

The controversial video, ‘Fans Mi’, has been getting attention over the issue and still airs on some television stations in Nigeria.

NDLEA’s Director of Public Affairs, Mitchell Ofoyeju, has said, “I am aware that a panel is working on it (the video). The panel was set up soon after the video was released few weeks ago.

“When our attention was drawn to it, we viewed it and we discovered that it was improper. There is no moral lesson in it and he was just advertising drug trafficking.

“In the video, he exchanged a brief case supposedly containing narcotics for dollars. He was displaying affluence in the video.

“If it (the plot) had climaxed in an arrest and possible detention, we would have congratulated him for partnering with us. But the way he portrayed drug trafficking in the video was a means to an end, which the end is a life of affluence which we disagree with.”

But when a fan of his asked him on Monday morning about the issue with the NDLEA, Davido, son of a wealthy businessman in Nigeria, Deji Adeleke, simply replied, “nothing.”

“What’s up with the NDLEA ish bro, please clarify that,” a Twitter follower of the ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ crooner had asked and he said, “Nothing.”

PoliticsHow Saraki Wrecked Yoruba Actress, Lola Alao’s Marriage With Lagos House, Jeep by aproko247(op): 10:55am On Jul 06, 2015
Much has been said and written on the activities of the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, but one story that has consistently escaped from the public glare is the alleged romance between the new lord of Kwara politics and the controversial Kogi-born actress, Lola Alao.

According to a reliable source, the romance between the duo, which started about four years ago, was so hurt that Lola didn’t hesitate to ask the young man based abroad, who she just got married to then, to take a walk.

The source disclosed that Lola Alao got introduced to Bukola Saraki by one Lekan Olaosebikan, a young merry-go-lucky guy from Oro-Ago, Kwara State.

“What was supposed to be a one night affair suddenly developed to a full-blown romance, Bukola got stricken by the Cupid arrow of love that he started sending return tickets to Lola to visit him in Abuja and Ilorin, Kwara State. He also lodged Lola in one of the best hotels in Abuja and spent quality time attending to her needs not minding the fact that Lola was married then,” said the source.

PoliticsINEC No More Independent Under Buhari—pdp by aproko247(op): 7:57pm On Jul 04, 2015
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has explained its main reason for kicking against the appointment of Mrs Amina Zakari as the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, by President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, the appointment of Zakari means INEC is no more independent.

The party said it is privy to the fact that “Zakari who has a strong relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari and a very prominent APC Northwest governor is collaborating with the ruling party to post Resident Electoral Commissioners of its choice to Kogi and Bayelsa ahead of the forthcoming governorship elections in those states.”

“President Buhari, in appointing Mrs Zakari, failed to take into cognizance the moral call to detach himself from the operation of the electoral body thereby completely eroding the independence of the commission,” Metuh said in the statement.

“We want Nigerians to know that with this appointment, INEC has been stripped of its independence and can no longer command the confidence and respect of the citizens and all other critical stakeholders in the nation’s electoral process,” the statement stated further.

“We however find it astonishing, discouraging and disheartening that the spokesperson of the President will address Nigerians and lie to the entire citizenry that Mrs Zakari never had any relationship with the President or an APC Governor in the Northwest. This is the height of deception coming from the respected office of the President of our dear country.

PoliticsBreaking News: CBN Extends BVN Registration Deadline by aproko247(op): 4:24pm On Jun 30, 2015
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has extended deadline for registration of the Bank Verification Number, BVN, it introduced in 2014.

The BVN was introduced by the country’s chief bank to curb the rate of fraud in the financial institution in Nigeria.

Tuesday, June 30, 2015 was earlier fixed for account holders to obtain their unique numbers attached to their accounts to enable them carry out transactions with their bank accounts.

However, some Nigerians failed to key into the introduction, which caused a last minute rush in many banks across the country on the deadline day.

The CBN has now extended the deadline to Saturday, October 31, 2015.

CelebritiesMandators Arrested Not Kidnapped, In Police Custody (picture) by aproko247(op): 2:40pm On Jun 29, 2015
Contrary to reports that Victor Essiet of the Mandators fame was kidnapped over the weekend, Aproko247 has reliably learnt that the musician, who was very popular in the 90s, was actually arrested by the police.

Our reporter gathered that Victor was apprehended over his failure to honour an agreement he signed in 2014 to pay up a debt he owed.

The singer was arrested last year on allegations bordering on fraud and obtaining by pretence. He was accused of fraudulently collecting N15 million from one Maurice Etim.

Aproko247 further gathered that after signing an undertaking to pay up the money in installments, Victor disappeared into thin air, which forced Maurice to involve the police again in the case.

He was reportedly nabbed in his hometown in Nsit Ubium, Akwa Ibom State, where he went for the funeral of his late brother.

He was bundled to Lagos and kept in custody of Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja.

PoliticsWatch Your Utterances — APC Warns Jega by aproko247(op): 9:10pm On Jun 18, 2015
The All Progressives Congress, APC, Rivers State Chapter has expressed shock over comments by Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Attahiru Jega, suggesting that the massive electoral fraud perpetrated during the last general elections in Rivers State was not as huge as being reported.

The party, in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Chris Finebone said, ‘It is sad that despite the fact that the entire gamut of that exercise is now the subject of serious dispute at the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, Prof Jega will, at the slightest excuse, attempt to publicly downplay the anomie his staff led by Dame Gesila Khan connived with the PDP to perpetrate in Rivers State last March 28 and April 11, 2015.’

For the APC, Jega needs not be reminded that the kind of unguarded utterances he has been making about those elections are subjudicial to the matters before the Tribunal.

“We sincerely sympathise with Prof Jega for struggling to shore up his reputation and paint himself as a superhuman before the eyes of the world. However, we believe that the Professor should be satisfied with the modest achievements the INEC has made under his watch and not try to forcefully lay claim to having performed extremely well.”

PoliticsGhana Suspends Ebola Vaccine Trial On Humans For $5 by aproko247(op): 1:46am On Jun 12, 2015
Reports say Ghana has stopped the trial for an Ebola vaccine after government received several complaints that humans were being used as “guinea pigs.”

A spokesman for the Ghana Minister of Health said on Wednesday that many citizens were not happy with the development. Ghana is presently free of the deadly disease, which has killed more than 11,000 persons in West Africa, including Nigeria.

Tony Goodman, media aide to the Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia, told Citi FM that, “The minister has got a lot of calls from numerous Ghanaians saying that they are not interested in any trial,” adding that “so he said the trial should be suspended until he returns to look at the issues.”

Goodman said many people have alleged that innocent Voltarians are being used as guinea pigs to test the vaccine.

Phase 1 safety tests for one vaccine, developed by US pharmaceutical giant Johnson and Johnson and Denmark’s Bavarian Nordic in the southeastern Volta region gave volunteers a mobile phone and nearly $5 each.

PoliticsWike Gets N10b To Pay-off Patience Jonathan, Others—rivers APC Chair by aproko247(op): 12:35am On Jun 12, 2015
Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, has accused the state governor, Nyesom Wike, of starting to milk state treasury dry with the approval of N10 billion by the state House of Assembly dominated by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

This allegation was made in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday afternoon by the Chairman and made available to Aproko247.

Ikanya said in the statement that, “Wike has shamelessly confirmed our fears that he has no agenda for the development of Rivers State, rather than looting the common patrimony of the State with impunity, by influencing the State House of Assembly to approve the sum of N10 billion without the purpose of the approval being clearly stated.”

Rivers APC boss quoted one of the principal actors in the Assembly, who is unhappy about the development, as disclosing that the money is meant to be used by Wike to allegedly bribe members of the Tribunal hearing petitions arising from the March 28 and April 11 general elections in Rivers State.

PoliticsHow PDP Installed Saraki As Senate President (full Details) by aproko247(op): 2:47pm On Jun 10, 2015
The meeting took place at the residence of the former Senate President, David Mark, at the Apo legislators’ quarters, and had in attendance 47 senators-elect, with Mark and Ike Ekweremadu presiding.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Working Committee, NWC, members led by the acting National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, and other NWC members were also in attendance.

The PDP members had three options to weigh: either to adopt Senator Bukola Saraki, present and support a neutral candidate as the Senate president, or to support Senator Ahmad Lawan.

The option of adopting Lawan was quickly dismissed, just as the second option of supporting a neutral candidate was also knocked out. Then came the first option of adopting Saraki as the PDP candidate.

However, at this juncture, the meeting was divided. But after deliberation, the matter was put to vote. After the vote, 28 PDP senators wanted Saraki adopted while 16 of the party’s senators wanted to adopt a neutral candidate.

Saraki was elected into the office on Tuesday at the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly by the Clerk, Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa.

However, Lawan and some of his colleagues missed the inauguration because of a meeting summoned by President Muhammadu Buhari over the crisis as regards who hold principal offices of the NASS.

Later, Lawan took his oath as Senator and thereafter addressed the press with his Unity Forum group, indicating his intention to challenge the senate leadership election in court.

Lawan said a quorum was not formed for the poll and wants the court to dismiss the whole exercise.

PoliticsElectoral Fraud: Rivers REC Should Rot In Kirirkiri — APC by aproko247(op): 10:53pm On Jun 07, 2015
The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has welcomed the order by the Inspector of General of Police, Solomon Arase, that the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mrs Gesila Khan, and her Akwa Ibom State counterpart, Barr Austin Eni Okojie, be investigated for electoral fraud.

The party in a statement signed by the State Chairman, Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, and issued in Port Harcourt on Sunday, described the probe of the two electoral umpires as a bold step which would help to bring sanity to the electoral process and cleanse the shame which they have brought to the country’s nascent democracy.

“The news of the probe ordered by IGP Arase came to us as a big relief. We commend the IGP for this bold step. We have shouted ourselves hoarse since the March 28 and April 11 elections, calling for the investigation of the Rivers REC, a disreputable woman who is supposed to be in jail for the needless pains she has caused Rivers State people by brazenly manipulating the results of the last elections in the State to favour the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidates. “The juicy cars and the new lifestyle of this greedy woman must be investigated and the sources of her newfound wealth exposed,” Rivers APC said.

The party slammed Mrs. Khan for contriving the charade that saw to the death of hundreds of Rivers people and the imposition of Chief Nyesom Wike, who has no agenda for administering the State, as its Governor. “The final destination of Mrs. Khan should be no other place than the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison in Lagos and that is where we will make sure she spends the greater part of her years for the shame and pains she has undeservedly inflicted on Rivers State,” the party said.

It vowed to ensure that no stone is left unturned until the Rivers REC is brought to justice, saying: “Surely, there is no escape route for this evil woman, as we are making arrangements to sue her for the deaths and pains she brought to Rivers State and her people by organising the worst election in the annals of elections in Nigeria.”

PoliticsJonathan Remembers Akunyili One Year After by aproko247(op): 10:27pm On Jun 07, 2015
Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has remembered the death of ex-Information Minister, Dora Akunyili.

Before her death, pictures of Akunyili’s appearance shocked many Nigerians. This was after it was earlier rumoured that she was seriously sick.

When she made an appearance at the National Conference in Abuja in 2014, many were surprised at her frail look.

But not too long after then, the news of her death broke.

On Sunday, June 7, 2015, Jonathan recounted how he got the shocking news of the death of the former Director-General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC.

“It was just a year ago that I was greeted with the shocking news of your passing,” Jonathan said in a post on Sunday.

He said further that, “Hardly has Nigeria encountered an amazon such as you. A grateful nation remembers your services, which saved lives and advanced the cause of democracy. Continue to rest in peace Dora Akunyili.”

PoliticsBoko Haram: Apologise To Jonathan—pdp Tells APC by aproko247(op):
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has been asked to tender an apology to former President Goodluck Jonathan because of the way the ruling party “once chastised” him (Jonathan) when he sought help from neighbouring countries to fight Boko Haram in Nigeria.

PDP, which assumed the role of the opposition party in Nigeria on May 29, 2015, disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, that the APC is now doing what it once accused Jonathan of doing when he was in government.

It accused the APC of double standard and insincerity.

“Nigerians should expect further unmasking of APC’s double standard and blackmail upon which they rode to power,” Metuh wrote in the statement.

PDP also condemned the venom with which the APC attacked well-meaning Nigerians for daring to offer constructive criticisms to President Buhari, following apparent loss of tempo in the fight against insurgency since he took office, describing such as unacceptable in a democracy especially in a country like Nigeria where the citizens have been enjoying freedom of expression in the last 16 years under the PDP.

PoliticsTinubu Backs Obasa As Lagos Speaker by aproko247(op): 6:44pm On Jun 07, 2015
The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has thrown his weight behind the candidacy of Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa to emerge as the next Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The meeting was said to have taken place at Bourdillon, Ikoyi residence of the APC national leader, with the contenders and other lawmakers on the party platform said to be present.

They pointedly accused the elders, who also consisted of the Deputy Speaker, Kolawole Taiwo, of imposition and arm- twisting, even as they insisted that Obasa has no wherewithal to lead the House to measure up or surpass the record of the incumbent, Adeyemi Sabit Ikuforiji.

It was gathered that at the meeting, where some of the lawmakers were said to have been allowed to speak their minds, Tinubu was said to have taken the decision to back Obasa based on majority opinion.

Tinubu was also said to have backed Wasiu Eshinlokun, a returnee lawmaker after 12 years’ exit from the Lagos Assembly for the position of Deputy Speaker.

PoliticsFashola Boils As Ambode Sacks Sister, Loyalists by aproko247(op): 6:09pm On Jun 05, 2015
The resignation of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode from the Lagos State Civil Service at an early age in 2012 as the Accountant General of Lagos State became a subject for debate during his campaign before the April 11 governorship election, but being an ‘anointed’ candidate of some powerful personalities in the state, he emerged the governor of the state.

What the opposition, especially the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, hammered on then was that Ambode was sacked by former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), but this was vehemently denied even though some insiders swore that Fashola pushed him out of his administration at that time.

But like a lion, whose pride has been seriously injured, and coming back for revenge, one of the first actions Ambode took shortly after he was sworn-in as governor in the state on May 29, 2015, was to kick out those he believed were loyalists of the man that allegedly forced him out of public service.

Aproko247 gathered that one of the first casualties was the younger sister of the former governor, Ms Yinka Fashola, who was in charge of the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, LASRRA, as General Manager.

Her agency was given the power to register those living in the state, which some people kicked against.

It was gathered that Ambode told Ms Fashola to handover all documents, properties belonging to LASRRA in her possession to the next person in command.

Also affected in Ambode’s rampage was the coordinator of Lagos Eko Project, Ms Ronke Azeez, who was fired by the governor after assuming office on Monday.

PoliticsEkiti Assembly Inauguration In Pictures by aproko247(op): 12:28pm On Jun 05, 2015
The inauguration of the Ekiti State House of Assembly has kicked off and several dignitaries and residents of the state are presently at the occasion.

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State was welcomed into the hallowed chamber amidst loud roar of cheers from the audience.

He will be performing the inauguration of the state Assembly today, Friday, June 5, 2015.

This is expected to bring an end to his woes with the former Assembly, which was dissolved not too long ago. The last Assembly, especially the majority, comprising 19 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, had tried to impeach him without any success.

PoliticsAmbode Relocates State House To Alausa by aproko247(op): 4:22pm On Jun 01, 2015
**Vows To Reduce Cost Of Governance
Newly sworn-in governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, has promised to do his best to cut down the cost of running government in the state.

Ambode made this disclosure at the meeting he held with Permanent Secretaries in the state last Saturday, a day after he assumed office as governor of the state.

The governor, who was appointed Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance in January 2005 and voluntarily retired from public service in August 2012, said the current cost of running government was making it difficult to carry out many developmental works in Lagos State.

Ambode said he hopes to serve the state diligently and asked for the support of his ‘former colleagues’ in taking Lagos State to the Promised Land.

The governor added that as part of his decision to reduce the cost of governance, he will relocate the State House in Marina to Alausa, Ikeja, the seat of power in Lagos State.
