Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the March 28, 2015 election, Muhammadu Buhari, has vowed to tackle the issue of violence against women in Nigeria if he eventually wins the poll.

The former Head of State made this promise on Thursday, March 19, 2015, while speaking at the APC Interactive Town Hall Meeting with women in Lagos.

Buhari, who has contested for the presidency position three times in the past, said his government will have a zero tolerance on violence against women and girls in the society.

The Kastina State-born retired army general turned politician said he will ensure that the rights of women will be fully protected because he cares a lot about them.

“My administration will have zero tolerance against women and girl. Women’s right will be fully empowered and protected under my government,” Buhari said at the meeting.

He further declared that, “I solemnly stand before you today to say that I will not take you or your votes for granted.”

News reaching Aproko247 shows that an inferno has engulfed the factory of a paint company, Fine Coat, in Lagos.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but we gathered that thick smoke filled the air in the area.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, reportedly destroyed some properties in the company.

However, security officials have reached scene of the incident, which is located at Casso area of Alagbado, Lagos.

Efforts are being made to put off the fire. We are yet to confirm if there is any human casualty at the moment.

Nigerian actress, Tonto Dikeh, may have hinted her fans of her plans to finally settle down with her once mystery lover, who she had always described as Mr X.

Going by her post on Monday on her Instagram page, she gave a tip off that she will soon stop paying bills herself, saying the man in her life, identified as Churchill Oladunni, will now be responsible for a major part of it, ostensibly being the head of the family.

Tonto expressed her feelings for being out of the burden of paying her bills herself.

She was said to have used her influence to make her close friend, Akonte Onimitemiari Ekine as the MD of FCB-Redline, an affiliate PR company of Centrespread owned by corporate guru, Kola Ayanwale.

Joke at the time perfected the award of the Afribank’s Moneygram account for Centrespread and brought Akonte into the picture to protect her interests.

It wasn’t long after this that Akonte convinced Joke on the need for them to have a company which would be totally owned by them and this understanding conceived the idea of Absolute PR which was floated in 2009.

True to her promises, immediately Absolute PR was created, the Moneygram account was removed from Centrespread and awarded to Absolute PR through Joke’s influence as an Executive Director in Afribank. She also used her connections to win some other juicy accounts for the new company which instantly became a leading firm within its first six months of operation.

Joke and Akonte were having a smooth sailing combining work with pleasure, but a crack found its way into their friendship when a photographer with Absolute PR who was close to Joke hinted that Akonte was having an office affair.

A livid Joke was said to have confronted her lover with the allegation with proofs of his dalliance with one of his staffers, Ronke Fasalojo stressing that such an office romance was capable of distracting Akonte from concentrating on the serious task of getting the firm quickly established.

News reaching Aproko247 indicates that some residents of Benue State took to the streets on Thursday to protest the murder of a popular Pharmacist in the state by some unknown gunmen.

The victim, Terngu Atime, was assassinated by some yet-to-be identified killers, who abruptly ended his vibrant life on the night of Wednesday, January 21, 2015.

Atime, who runs a pharmacy shop in Gboko community, was said to be a man that was loved by many people in the area.

Some angry residents of the area rode on motorcycles to register their displeasure over the assassination of the man.

The deceased, according to reports revealed to us, had the largest pharmaceutical store in the community and reportedly sold drugs to the people of the area at subsidized rates. He was also said to give free drugs to those who could not afford to pay for them.

It was divulged to us that residents occupied the streets in protest of his death, while commercial activities were brought to halt, including banks, markets and stores in the community.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Lagos State, Akinwumi Ambode, has explained why he is interested in becoming the governor of the state.

The renowned Accountant, speaking over the weekend at an event held at the MUSON Centre in Onikan, Lagos, stressed that his main reason for putting himself forward for the highest job in Lagos State is ‘service to humanity.’

The APC candidate, according to a press statement signed by his Director of Media and Communications, Steve Ayorinde, reassured his supporters, stakeholders as well the electorates that he is in the race to serve and lead by example.

Ambode said Lagos has witnessed a record of excellence service in the past 15 years and the more than 17 million people living and working in this Africa’s largest city-state “deserves a tested hand who will continue in that tradition of excellence.

“The governor that Lagos State deserves at this period of our continued growth and development is a man with a track record of performance and excellence; a man who is tested, who understands governance and is an experienced administrator who will not experiment with the resources and growth template of this state. I, Akinwunmi, Ambode, is that man,” he announced at the 3rd Annual Lecture of the January 9 Collective, J9C, where he was a Special Guest.

According to Ambode, who is a Fulbright Scholar, selfless service and leadership by example should be the hallmark of an elected official who is desirous of making a meaningful change and lasting impression in the lives of the electorates.

“Selfless service becomes non-negotiable if the process that brought elected leaders into office is free, fair and credible. But often, we see leaders who derail and abandon their promises to the electorates because the process that brought them to office is flawed. They feel they do not owe the voters.

“This is why we in APC have been very vocal about the need to have a credible election; to have a process that is fair and transparent and to have an election that does not seek to systematically disenfranchise electorates,” the former Accountant-General of Lagos State said.

He added that APC would not relent in urging the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to do everything in its power to ensure that all the eligible six million registered voters in Lagos State get their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) in order to exercise their civic duties, failing which those with Temporary Voters Card should be allowed to exercise their constitutional rights.

“This is the only way to ensure that INEC’s preparedness is beyond rhetorics so that the February elections can produce leaders that the people want.”

Report reaching us has it that some unknown gunmen raided the residence of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, John Oyegun, in the early hours of Monday.

The hoodlums, we learnt, went straight to the bedroom of Oyegun, but met his wife.

Our correspondent gathered that the opposition party boss was not around when the gunmen stormed his house as he was attending an important meeting of the APC.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested by men of the Nigeria Police in Ekiti for allegedly having a forceful carnal knowledge of an 85 years old woman.

The accused, one Familola Ayodeji, a resident of 17, Oke Ido Street, Ido-Ekiti, Ekiti State, was accused of committing the crime on December 25, 2015.

“The victim, a great grandmother, was asleep when the suspect sneaked into her room, bolted the door and forcefully took advantage of her,” a statement released by the Police explained.

He was apprehended by operatives of the Department of Criminal Investigation in Ado-Ekiti.

It was stated that the suspect initially went into hiding after the act but was caught in the dragnet spread for him by detectives.

“Medical report confirmed that the victim was r@ped by the suspect, he will soon be charged to court,” the Ekiti State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Babayemi, said in the statement.

Seasoned filmmakers will visit the artistes from time to time to give them practical tips on the art and science of filmmaking.

Following comments made by controversial Catholic Priest, Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka, that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan has been plagued with bad luck, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, has said that the man of God is on his own.

President of CBCN, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigam, in an interview with ThisDay, distanced the Catholic Church from the comments, stating that the founder of Adoration Ministry, Enugu Catholic Archdiocese, should be solely held responsible for his remarks.

Kaigam noted that Mbaka’s New Year message cannot stand as the view of over 30 million Catholics in Nigeria.

“There are more than 30 million Catholics in Nigeria, Fr Mbaka is just one Catholic, if he makes a statement, it cannot be the voices of more than 30 million Nigerian Catholics speaking,” Kaigam said in the interview.

Speaking further, the head of the Catholic Bishops advised Nigerians to “avoid hasty generalisation.”

“Mbaka cannot speak for the church, only the CBCN can speak for the church. Those who are complaining should go to Fr Mbaka and find out why he is saying what he is saying. I tell you, even the Canon Law forbid a priest to engage in partisan politics,” the group said.

Fr Mbaka has come under harsh criticisms over his comments. The man of God has alleged threat to his life.

If there is one issue that is causing investors and depositors of Skye Bank sleepless nights, then it is certainly the donation recently made by the financial institution’s Chairman, Tunde Ayeni, to the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan in February 2015.

It would be recalled that last December, a fund raising ceremony was held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja for Jonathan’s re-election and over N20 billion was realised that day. Ayeni chaired the occasion.

The issue was highly criticised by many Nigerians, who called for probe of the donors.

One of the donors, Tunde Ayeni, may have pinched the wrath of some stakeholders of Skye Bank with his donation, which was made on behalf of himself and some unnamed friends. And feelers reaching us have it that depositors are now thinking twice as to the safety of their money in care of the bank.

There are fears that their hard-earned money may not be safe with the act of the bank’s Chairman and they are reportedly thinking of some options.

Tale-bearers alleged that some depositors of the bank are considering moving their accounts to other banks, where they believe their money would be safe and kept well. The crisis brewing in the Lagos chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may take a dangerous turn if urgent steps are not taken by the party leadership to wade into the matter.

It is no news that a new comer into the party, Jimi Agbaje was announced winner of the governorship primary of the party held last Monday in Oregun, Lagos.

A governorship aspirant of the PDP, who is also the immediate minister of state for defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro had rejected the outcome of the keenly contested primary, claiming that chieftains of the party, Bode George and Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe worked against him at the primary, which was marred by violence.

Shortly after the primary, Obanikoro granted interview to TVC, a television station believed to be run by the National Leader of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where he claimed he was robbed of victory by Bode George and Ogunlewe.

Obanikoro alleged in the interview that Bode George sent some thugs to the primary to harm his (Obanikoro) supporters.

The former minister said that he would not accept the outcome of the election because he was cheated, and called for a rerun.

He questioned how the number of votes exceeded the number of accredited number of delegates for the primary.

Obanikoro, who was the flagbearer of the PDP in the governorship election of 2007 in Lagos State, said that 806 delegates were accredited for the election, but that the number of votes cast was 863. He called for an investigation into the matter and cancellation of the primary.

“The entire primary was a sham. I still cannot comprehend how accredited delegates of 806 would turn out to be 863. To be honest with you, with the benefit of hindsight, you can tell that the outcome was predetermined,” Obanikoro said in the interview.

“The path of fraudulent election success is condemnable and we intend to fight this. There is an opportunity to appeal and I hope the party will do the right thing. Bode George has been the major problem as far as this party is concerned and there is no doubt in my mind that he supervised this electoral malpractice,” he added.

Furthermore, the former Senator asked, “How do you explain the panel chairman arriving in Lagos by 10am and not starting the election until about 5pm?”

“There are so many things that you can look at, like the pronouncement made by Bode George, Ogunlewe and others. One of the reasons why this party has failed in Lagos is because it is being led by the likes of Bode George and Ogunlewe,” he pointed out.

“Bode George brought thugs to come and harass and intimidate delegates at the primary. I was not even at the primary, when violence started, but it was Bode George’s people. One of them even stabbed a nephew of mine during the selection of delegates. This is known to the police. One of them was arrested at the Mainland. He shot at people. They perpetrate violence and then run to him for cover,” he said.

Some tale-bearers however informed Aproko247 last week that Obanikoro is poised for a showdown with Bode George.

They said that the former chairman of Lagos Island Local Government wants to wrestle power of the party’s structure from Bode George and Ogunlewe once and for all.

Haliya Records’ founder, Zee World passes on

Abdul Azeez Halidu, who is more popular as Zee World, has died on Sunday.

The artiste who started Haliya Records, is believed to have given up after a long battle with cancer.

Zee World, who burst onto the scene with his 2011 hit track ‘Tentebo Remix’, had become very ill over the past few months and his health deteriorated quickly.

Report reaching Aproko247 has it that a Nigerian music artiste by the name ‘Zee World’ is dead.

One of his colleagues in the music industry informed our reporter that the artiste, also fondly called Tentebo Soldier, died on Sunday morning after suffering from an illness.

Another colleague of the deceased told our reporter that the cause of the illness was not known.

From a picture of late Zee World made available to Aproko247 by an industry source shows the deceased must have suffered in great pains before his demise.

Aproko247 has learnt that pandemonium has been let loose in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as some police officers and suspected thugs of the All Progressives Congress, APC, engaged in a free-for-all.

It was reliably gathered that some members of the party had converged at the Abiola Ajimobi Vocational Centre in Oke Ado, Ibadan for a rally when the trouble started.

Though details of the clash between the suspected hoodlums and the security officials are still sketchy, we learnt that residents of the area have fled to safety.

"There is presently chaos in Ibadan as I speak with you. Everyone is running helter skelter. There is a riot between the police and some APC thugs," an eyewitness told <strong>Aproko247</strong> on Friday afternoon.

A military helicopter belonging to the Nigerian Air Force has crashed in Yola, Adamawa State, reports reaching us say.

This is the third jet belonging to the Nigerian Air Force that have crashed within a month.

The latest crash occurred in Damare, near the Federal University of Technology in Yola.

The Nigeria Police has promoted over 30,000 of its officers, Aproko247 has learnt.

It was gathered that the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Suleiman Abba, approved the elevation of the officers in the rank and files who attended the Batch ‘C’ 2014 Promotion Course at the various Police Colleges and Training Schools across the country.

Aproko247 further gathered that a total number of 31,576 police officers were affected by this promotion.

Those elevated from the rank of Corporal to Sergeant got the highest number in the breakdown of the promotion approved by the police chief.

From the list obtained by Aproko247, 4,826 Sergeants were promoted to the rank of Inspector, while 20,748 Corporals were elevated to the rank of Sergeant, and 6,002 Constables became Corporals.

Not too long ago, the Police Service Commission approved the promotion and redeployment of some senior police officers.

The Boko Haram scourge has become a cause of worry for the Nigerian government and its people. Several thousands of people have been killed since the group started its full onslaught in the north eastern region of Nigeria in 2009.

Government, private and religious facilities have been destroyed by the deadly terrorist group for over four years. And from the way they are presently going, they want to control the northern Nigeria.

Already, they have captured some areas in Nigeria, which are directly under their control.

Efforts by the government to stop the group have yielded no meaningful results. Even the Nigerian military seems to have been overpowered by the Islamic sect.

In the past five years, there have been blame games, with accusing fingers being pointed at some people in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Sometimes ago, President Goodluck Jonathan, reportedly claimed some supporters of Boko Haram were in his government, but he refused to mention names or bring them to book for truncating his administration.

His former National Security Adviser, NSA, Patrick Azazi, in a speech, claimed sponsors of Boko Haram were in the PDP. But shortly after he made that ‘heroic’ statement, he was removed. And not too long after, he was killed in a plane crash in 2012.

Some weeks ago, the Federal Government claimed it signed a ceasefire truce with Boko Haram. The deal, the Nigerian government said, was also to secure the release of over 200 schoolgirls in custody of the insurgents.

But in a video later released by the group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, he denied reaching a deal with Nigeria. Shekau claimed the Nigerian government may have dealt with an impostor.

However, the APC has said it could strike a deal with the real Boko Haram if elected into Aso Rock in 2015.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, speaking as a guest on a Channels TV programme on Friday, November 14, 2014, also disclosed that his party could help negotiate with the real insurgents if the government humbles itself to approach them (APC).

“If the Federal Government of Nigeria wants us to negotiate with Boko Haram on their behalf, then they should approach us formally,” Lai said.

“We shall negotiate with the genuine Boko Haram members as soon as we get into power not the fake ones they are talking to,” the APC spokesman added.

Before now, there have been allegations that the APC was behind Boko Haram. Some even described Boko Haram as the military wing of the Nigeria’s main opposition party.

APC was born after some key political parties in Nigeria formed alliance.

The All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP; the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN; a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA; and the Congress for Progressives Change, CPC formed the APC in 2013.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has cleared the air on why the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi dumped the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, and embraced the APC despite having spoken negatively about the APC symbol in the past.

The party warned blackmailers who are so frightened by the high rise of the national political profile of Amaechi and are desperate to bring him down by attempting to make a mountain out of a molehill to look for something better to do as Rivers people and, indeed, Nigerians are too politically advanced to be easily deceived by unserious minds that clutch at straws in their quest for political relevance.

Rivers APC said in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by the state Chairman, Davies Ibiamu Ikanya that. “There is a time and season for everything under the sun, as the Holy Book rightly says. It is disgraceful that empty minds that cannot stand the rigours of intellectual political debate are making so much fuss about a 2011 statement credited to Amaechi to the effect that ‘those who carry brooms are night soil men and juju priests’.

“Like the true African that he is, Amaechi was speaking in parables but suffice it to say that he did not in any way contradict himself by later dumping the torn umbrella of the doomed PDP for the clean-sweeping broom of the APC.”

Rivers APC insisted that Amaechi was 100% right in his 2011 statement and had to take his leave from the PDP when the mess by the PDP-controlled Federal Government under the watch of President Goodluck Jonathan became an unmistakable threat to the very survival of the country, thus leaving all patriots with no other option than to join the league of proverbial night soil men.

“The mess by the PDP-led Government of Goodluck Jonathan as manifested in monumental corruption, suffocating insecurity and strangulating economic hardship is such that every Nigerian patriot needs to carry brooms to flush out this evil party and clean up the country for the sake of present and future generations.

“There is no gainsaying that going by the present sorry state of Nigeria, the country desperately needs good night soil men to clean up PDP’s faeces. Indeed, it is time for all those who truly love Nigeria to bring the brooms out and get down to work with APC’s broom revolution as we seek to bring about change after forming the next government in 2015,” Rivers APC said.

The party berated the faceless Association of Concerned Indigenes of Rivers State and other faceless groups being allegedly promoted by the Presidency and Rivers State PDP leader, Nyesom Wike “for wasting billions of taxpayers’ money on a worthless advertorial in some National and Port Harcourt based papers in its doomed propaganda campaign that can only make Governor Amaechi and APC stronger as they work to salvage Nigeria from the evil grip of PDP.”

The party advised Wike and his cohorts to find something better to do as nobody is interested in their childish propaganda campaign which was doomed to fail from the very beginning.

Popular singer, Ade Bantu is now wearing a new look. The singer, known for his trademark dreadlocks, has finally removed them and is now without them.

Bantu announced the cutting of his dreads on Wednesday, explaining that it was not an easy decision for him to make in removing the hairstyle he has been with for many years. The singer said he had to allow the change.

“After 23 years, I decided it was time to let go and move on. It wasn’t easy, but hey the only constant in life is change and sometimes, we must embrace it fearlessly. ‪Thanks to Lola Shoneyin for doing the honours,” he said.

Report reaching us from Ogun State, Ijebu-Ode in particular, is not a good one. The newly constructed flyover bridge by the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, at the popular Lagos Garage, has developed fault, Aproko247 learnt.

It was gathered that renovation work was recently carried out on the bridge, which is barely five months old. The situation is making residents of the town to ask why would a bridge reportedly constructed with about N1.38 billion have pot holes in less than six months of construction.

Unconfirmed reports say that the contractor of the project rushed the job at the instance of the governor, who allegedly wanted the job completed before the 80th birthday of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, in May 2014 in whose name the bridge was christened.

It was said that Amosun wanted to use the bridge to impress many sons, daughters and guests that would attend the celebration, which was eventually largely attended.

The repairs, Aproko247 also learnt, were carried out by officials of the state Ministry of Works in Abeokuta, instead of the contractor that constructed the bridge.

Aproko247 can confirm that a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Tom Ikimi, has eventually left the opposition party.

The Edo State-born politician was among the aspirants for the National Chairmanship post of APC, but lost out to his kinsman, John Oyegun.

A top source in the APC informed our reporter on Tuesday afternoon that Ikimi is pulling out of the party because he is not happy with latest developments.

The party has been going through tough times recently, especially with the announcement of Oyegun as National Chairman of the party in June 2014.

It appears popular Nigerian actress, Funke Akindele has finally dumped the Yoruba film industry that brought her to the limelight.

The make-believe star, who first got the attention of Nollywood followers through a popular, but now rested soap, ‘I Need To Know’, got her breakthrough in the movie world when she acted in her self-produced flick, ‘Jenifa’, from where she later got her nickname, ‘Jenifa’.

Soon after the success made by the film, Funke Akindele became one of the hottest movie stars in Nigeria, and one of the most sought after. Many filmmakers came calling afterwards and this landed her several endorsement deals, including Glo, Vitafoam, Jobberman and others.

Aproko247 has however observed that lately, Funke Akindele has not been very active in the Yoruba movie industry, rather, she has been very busy on film sets in Enugu and Asaba, where Igbo producers roll out several flicks, where they speak English Language.

The actress now has several English speaking movies to her credit and she has also won awards courtesy of such films.

What Aproko247 has also observed is that many film producers use Funke Akindele in comic movies and use her as a clownish character.

It is not clear if Funke Akindele will still be very active in Yoruba films, though we learnt some Yoruba producers don’t have the financial strength to pay for her services.

Unconfirmed reports said that most Yoruba producers want to offer the actress fees ranging from N100,000 to N200,000, which some say she has surpassed. We could not confirm what Asaba and Enugu based filmmakers pay Funke Akindele to get her on set, but what we observed is that the actress prefers to act Asaba movies instead of Yoruba movies because of the language barrier of the latter.

Following a claim by the leader of Boko Haram Islamic sect, Abubakar Shekau, that the town of Gwoza in Borno State is now in its control, the Nigerian Army has disclosed otherwise, boasting that it (Army)is still in control of the area and every other parts of the country.

The military, via its Twitter handle, pointed out that any claim by a terrorist group to have captured any town or community in Nigeria is false.

The Boko Haram group released a video on Sunday and announced that the recaptured Gwoza town is now under Islamic caliphate.

“That claim (capture of Gwoza) is empty,” the Defence Headquarters, DHQ, said in one of its tweets.

The Army said further that, “The sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nigerian state is still intact. Any group of terrorists laying claim to any portion of the country will not be allowed to get away with that expression of delusion and crime.”

The DHQ also revealed that, “Appropriate military operations to secure that area from activities of the bandits is still ongoing.”

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has said that the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, is worse than fatal Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, which is giving most countries of the world sleepless nights.

The governor made this disclosure over the weekend at an occasion in the state. Okorocha, who was present at the 2014 New Yam Festival in Mbaise area of the state, was reacting to comments directed at him by the Deputy Senate President, Emeka Ihedioha, also at the ceremony.

Ihediola had said that if the Federal Government had not done some projects in the region, Mbaise would not have enjoyed any developmental projects, which the governor ably responded to.

The DSP said, “The major projects in Mbaise are those executed by the Federal Government,” and urged Okorocha to pass over the mantle of leadership to the PDP in 2015 in order to bring development to the people.

In his reaction, the governor said no one in the PDP can match his administration, pointing out that Aboh Mbaise/ Ngor Okpala has a university project to enjoy.

“There is nobody in Imo PDP that is my match in an electoral contest. My three years in office is more productive than the 12 years spent in Imo by the PDP. Imo people have rejected PDP because PDP is worse than the Ebola virus,” the governor said.
