This is a business at the end of the day.
Welcome to capitalism.
If they don't meet their profit margins, they simply go else where and more than a few staffs will be out of jobs.
it is not enough to blanket prevent them, what is the govt doing to encourage them not to?

Yeah, I guess so too @Aanumi . But honestly I don't experience overheating even at slightly long distance from my place . What do u think could be done

i think the guy above you has answered your question. Blown head gasket is usually the culprit.
There could be other severe reasons oh.
Pray it is only the gasket and since not much overheating experienced, the top cylinder may still be fine.
Good luck

At the bolded, not so true.
I've had a thermostat stuck closed on my skoda. Had same symptoms as OP. The needle always rested above the middle line on highway trips but stayed on the middle line in town. I changed the thermostat and it stopped happening. The thermostat had a bypass which still allowed coolant to flow but wasn't allowing enough to flow at highway speeds with engine working hard.
Water pump can also cause this.

Interesting perspective and you might be right afterall.
Some cars do indeed have this bypass, but i doubt Toyota engines do (atleast not in the way we think).
You may have had a bad thermostat that wasn't opening all the way and restricted flow. Not entirely shut completely.
This is one angle i didn't consider in my initial post. Thanks

OP, any update?

Dont stress yourself with thermostat this, thermostat that.
If your thermostat has a problem, and is stuck closed, you will have over heating whether stationary or at speed.

I am fairly confident that your radiator is the problem.
At low load (low rev in traffic) the radiator works fine.
At higher load (higher rev on the move) radiator unable to keep up with the heat dissipation needed.

Firstly, check to confirm that your fan is blowing in the right direction.
It could just be blowing outwards and this counters/cancels the air rushing in while you are driving, thereby making the heat dissipation of the radiator insufficient. things will work fine when you are in traffic since the air from outside is low as you are on low speed.

Secondly, if fan is blowing correctly, proceed to wash your radiator inside out. make sure the fins are free of debris and it is not heavily rusted inside.
Replace with recommended coolant.

Lastly, you might want to check to make sure your radiator was not "changed" at some point during life of the car. maybe an underrated unit was installed.

As long as radiator is clean, coolant level is good and not losing fluid, water pump works fine, fans are blowing (in the right direction), thermostat not stuck closed, A car should not over heat.

ps: I'm not an expert, just using small common sense.

Now I got it better. Wanted to know if it was a high concern signal I should be seriously worry about. Unfortunately no other light accompanied it. Its just the single light.

No o.. thats even worse.. something is surely wrong but now you need to scan it to find out.

simple things like "door open", seatbelt not engaged. But usually, there is a second notification confirming what the warning is.

Even from responses here, I don't see where you drew your conclusions as regards everyone being scared of Volvo.

People will recommend what they've used and know more about, same way I'll likely stay away from the Acura due to the fact I have limited experience with them.

You don't expect someone who's not use or had any encounters or experience on the XC90 to come here and start recommending it. It's simply a game of numbers here.

Put in Toyota highlander or Honda pilot in that list and see the users flood this place with recommendations or... Let me send this page link to my Volvo fans and you'll see the XC90 vote skyrocket

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: My Near Death Experience While Working As A Mason by Areaboy2(m): 2:05pm On Aug 04, 2020
MrOjay1:
Last friday evening, my friend in the hood called me on phone to inform me of a job opening in an ongoing construction site somewhere around Agbara (Lagos).

He told me the pay is 2,300 per day depending on if you were able to finish the day's job.

I told him i was interested (no choice for a broke man) and asked him when we are to leave for the place. He said we'll leave for Agbara the next day early in the morning to get there on time and start with others.

'No wahala', I said.

We set off the next morning and got there before 7 or thereabouts. When the supervisor saw me said, 'oboy as you dey lenge lenge (slim) like this, you sure say you go fit do this kind work so??'

I told him i could. Shey no be my mates dey do am?

I started the work which was carrying mixed concrete and sand up into the second floor of the building.

The work no easy o. I wan die true to God but i just chinned up and continued. I worked like this till afternoon.

My body was telling me to stop but i continued being that i wanted my full pay for the day then something happened.

As i was climbing up the scaffolded stairs, my limbs had become weak and my eyes dazed, i had no energy left again to climb up to the second floor so while trying to muster up energy as i climbed, I mis-stepped my footings and was about falling off the stairs down to the ground laden with bamboo, nails, stones and co far below but was saved by the hand of another worker coming up the stairs behind me. He had already noticed my fatigue and signs of faint feeling.

My headpan had already crashed down the ground.

I wonder what would have happened to me. Probably would have died.

The supervisor heard of it and was furious, lambasting me saying,' shebi i tell you say you no fit do this work? Na so you for put me for trouble.Oya dey go house now now, he said as he put his hands in his pocket and brought out 1400 as my payment.

I protested and demanded my full payment but he wasn't listening and was threatening to call the police.

I left the place, went home and used half the money to treat the sprain and pains i was feeling all over my body.

Ouch.. crazy story. even to do exercise at home, sometimes i feel faint trying to hit 60 push-ups.. e no easy bros.. imagine running headpan up and down for 4 hours. na die
But i really admire your effort. please check your email

I really wanted that RX350 but my budget can't take it.

My next choice is the Volvo XC 90 actually. Just wanted to know if it's good for our roads and fuel consumption as well.

But it seem Acura is better, right?

yeah.. Acura seems to be the safer bet of all 3 you listed

Funny though i agree with OP.
the competition some years back was between accord and camry, civic and corolla, city and yaris.
Today, for every accord you see, you'll see 5 or more camry.

Lets start with the basics. Babyboy and pencil light. which one do you see more?
EOD and big for nothing, which one do you see more?

OP indeed does have a point

I agree with the above.

Dont waste your time importing from the US.

Good ones plenty for naija. Just do your research very well and make your choice.

Online research with VIN
Physical inspection of potential candidates above. Naturally, i will say go with mechanic, but that term has been abused so much that anyone with spanner is now a mechanic grin. research things to look out for and you can do this yourself.
Test drive the car to your satisfaction
Negotiate
Pay

Remember to look under for rust oh tongue
Also, don't let anyone pressure/rush you to make a commitment. only do so when you are completely satisfied. Remember, their only goal is to sell their car for the most profit. and your only goal is the get the best deal. Manage these two objectives well and you will be fine.

Last point, as i always say, sometimes, quality costs more. Take your time

happy searching

Name is Launch. I think the latest should be Launch VI.
Cost about $1k plus

Come on.. he doesn't need something that expensive.
Is he trying to start a diagnostics business?

For personal use, dont go above 300USD. ideal sweet spot should be 150 sef.
Anything more than that will have features you'll never use.
Check konga or Jumia. Basically, dont spend more than 100k naira (this is even too much sef).
Autel or Launch have products within that price range that will do all you can think of.
