The candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 presidential election, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is reportedly making moves to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Naija News learnt.

An ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, AbdulMajid Dan Bilki Kwamanda, revealed this while addressing pressmen at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Kano.


The APC chieftain said Kwankwaso’s move would face strong opposition as he cannot be trusted, stressing that the former Kano State Governor is selfish and always joins a particular political movement for personal gains.


Kwamanda warned President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to reject Kwankwaso’s alleged plan to join the APC.

Naija News reports that Kwankwaso came fourth behind Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and APC’s Tinubu in the presidential election held on February 25th, 2023.


In his submission, while reacting to news of alleged secret meetings between Kwankwaso and Tinubu to bring the Kwankwaso back to the party, Kwamanda cautioned that bringing the NNPP candidate into the APC would cause serious fracas among party loyalists.

“We will fight to a standstill, this move, no matter what will not happen to the party,” Kwamanda said.

He said the party and people in the North had done their best for Tinubu’s emergence as the president, hence the need for him to compensate them, adding that politics in the North is different and challenging to be manipulated by one single person.

Kwamanda said as an analyst, he knows Kwankwaso to be selfish and always joins a particular group or party for his gains, not for the general public, and that he will not be of advantage to the APC.

He stressed that bringing Kwankwaso to APC would mean betraying Northerners, which according to him, would not be in favour of Tinubu in future politics.

He debunked the rumours saying that Kwankwaso’s coming would block the chances of Vice President-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima, adding that Shettima is far higher than the former in national politics.

Speaking on the 10th National Assembly, he said only Northwest deserved the Senate President and that the South-South had no basis for criticizing the decision since they didn’t join forces that formed the new government.

“They didn’t work for us, they were against the Muslim-Muslim ticket. They didn’t consider it during Jonathan when the president, Senate President and his deputy were all Christians. So now it is time for the North, even in the North, it is time for Barau Jibrin to be the Senate president. This is our choice and is what we are calling for,” he said.

He called on the National Chairman of the Party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, to stop propagating for zoning, saying that northerners would not support it and it won’t be good for the party.

The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has denied issuing either a Certificate of National Service to the Enugu State governor-elect, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

In the build-up to the March 18, 2023 governorship election, Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was accused by some opposition political parties of presenting a forged NYSC certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, the Enugu State PDP Campaign Council denied the alleged NYSC certificate forgery, describing it as a conjecture of an indolent opposition and the last kick of a dying horse.

The campaign council in a statement by its Director of Public Communications and spokesperson, Nana Ogbodo, said the opposition in the state had realised that they had no prospects in the governorship election and therefore, resorted to smear campaigns.

However, the NYSC has denied issuing Mbah’s certificate in response to an application for the confirmation of the document by one Mary Nneoma Elijah.

The NYSC stated this in its response letter captioned ‘Re: Application for Information on the NYSC Status of Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and Confirmation of the Certificate attached herein: This Application is pursuant to Section 1 of Freedom of Information Act, 2011’ and signed by its Director of Corps Certification, Ibrahim A. Muhammad.

In the letter dated February 1, 2023, and seen by SaharaReporters, NYSC said that Mbah’s certificate with Certificate Number: A808297 was not issued by the Scheme.

“I am directed to refer to your letter dated 23 November, 2022 on the above subject and to convey Management's delight for compliance with the provision of NYSC Act regarding presentation of the Certificate of National Service or Exemption Certificate by employees/prospective employeesholding Degree and HND Certificates.

“We are pleased to inform you that the Certificate of National Service belonging to Mbah Peter Ndubuisi with Certificate Number: A808297 forwarded for verification was not issued by the NYSC.

“As we look forward to close working ties with your organisation, please accept the assurances of the Director-General's warmest regard.”

The council insisted that there was no truth whatsoever in the allegation.

Bill To Regulate Nigerian Medics From Going Abroad Passes Second Reading

In a bid to halt the increasing numbers of medical doctors leaving Nigeria for greener pastures, a Bill sponsored by Rep Ganiyu Abiodun Johnson to prevent Nigerian-trained medical or dental practitioners from being granted full licences until they have worked for a minimum of five years in the country, has passed second reading stage in the House of Representatives.

The Bill is titled, “A Bill for an Act to amend the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act, Cap M379, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to mandate any Nigerian-trained medical and dental practitioner to practice in Nigeria for a minimum of five years before being granted a full license by the Council in order to make quality health services available to Nigeria; and for related matters (HB.2130)”.

Rep Uzoma Nkem-Abonta, however, opposed the Bill on the ground that it was more like enslavement while the sponsor of the Bill told the House that it was only fair for medical practitioners who enjoyed taxpayer subsidies on their training to give back to the society by working for a minimum number of years in Nigeria before exporting their skills abroad.

Majority voice votes passed the Bill for second reading during plenary presided over by the speaker, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila.
