Fashola beats Jonathan in railway devt —Group
A socio-political group, Forward Nigeria Initiative, has described President Goodluck Jonathan’s railway reform as dubious, insisting that the light rail project of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, is a much bigger achievement.
The President of the group, Mr. Lai Omotola, said during an interview with journalists on Tuesday that Jonathan had only been able to refurbish a few coaches and tracks but did not buy modern trains.
He also berated Jonathan for saying Nigerians were not taking trains before his administration, insisting that thousands of Lagosians used trains every day.
Omotola said, “Of all the things that Jonathan has been doing, which area can we say marvels Nigerians? He has talked so much about rail but the transformation of the rail he is talking about is the rehabilitation of the tracks that have been in existence since the time of our colonial masters.
“After rehabilitating the tracks, he put locomotive trains on it; that is not transformation. But if the rail was turned into high-speed rail, then that would be transformation.
“If you compare Fashola’s railway transformation with that of Jonathan in the face of the cost and its impact, what Fashola is investing in that blue line is far more impressive than what Jonathan claims to be doing across the country.
“By the time Fashola completes the blue line, you will see elevated tracks. The tracks will run across the Marina lagoon. That is real transformation. It means you can be in your office in a high-rise building in Marina and see train operating over the water. That is what we call transformation, not locomotives on rehabilitated tracks.”

forgiveness: Lagos state is no longer buying the H5 and H6- series subway train, they have opted for the Chinese built train instead. LAMATA opts for Chinese Trains for the Lagos Light RailIt should be noted that between 2010-2013, there was a lot of talk both officially and unofficially about Lagos State's desire to purchase refurbished subway cars from Toronto Metro for use in the ongoing Lagos Light Rail development. Blackborderbuild have been able to confirm however that the deal has failed to materialize with the H5 Car series of the Toronto Metro being scrapped entirely and only a few H6 Car Series remaining. LASG had initially planned to acquire 255 units of H5 and H6 trains.
It may be pontificated that the reason why LASG refused to go through with the contract and opt for Chinese EMUs (Electric Multiple Units) may be as a result of two issues

Firefire: Buhari why ?
Two things are involved.
1. You are either paying back in style the money invested in your campaign or 2. You are attempting to redeem your image as a result of your evil deed during Pa Lateef Jankande era of you cancelling Lagos rail project.
However, the debt profile of Lagos state is getting too high, The highest debtor in Nigeria (both domestic and foreign) Lagos is now highly geared; don't tell me the Gearing Ratio is healthy compare to its liquidity.
Mortgaging our future generation must stop.
N160bn World Bank Loan on Light Rail Project and rail still in slow motion from Canada after 7 years of Fashola inspection.
Lagos EKO Secondary School Project Loan of $137 Million USD has no impact - Gone into tin air.
The school loan was followed by an approval of additional $200m to the state by World Bank to support the state reforms pertaining to fiscal sustainability, budget planning, budget execution and the investment climate.
All this Millions of Dollars Loans, Bonds and several other facilities despite the state high IGR which covers about 70% of its annual budget without recording what accrue to the state for the federation accounts.

Some may argue that Saraki is being witch hunted and that the case is still in court which is not totally false. But let's not forget the merit of the charges against him. It is now clear that corruption is fighting back. In as much as the principle of separation of power must be respected but on matters like this our senators should have acted with high moral standards. Shamelessly did they troop to the cbt in the name of solidarity aswell as hiring thugs to barricade the National Assembly today just to tell Nigerians that even if Saraki is a thief they don't care. MayorofLagos: What did you say??
Alright, I think it is time we sanction Ibos from the political section. You guys just dont get it!!
The UN is located in America but its grounds and campuses are considered international territory. The UN has its own police force. AMERICA has no jurisdiction on UN grounds.
Now, America itself has a rep in the UN. The UN rep is different from an Ambassadorial post but both are diplomatic missions.
The Nigerian Ambassador to the US is there to facilitate the needs of bilateral agreements between US and Nigeria people in areas of cultural exchange, business exchange, tourism, education, arts and so on.....
The Nigerian Perm Rep to UN is there to facilitate treaties between Nigerian Government and UN members and to be the face and facilitator when Nigeria interacts, inter-exchange, inter-play with peer Nations for military, state, humanitarian aid, development and peace accords.
One represent the people - Ambasador The other represent the Sovereign - Perm Rep.
Dont ever make the mistake of confusing the two again. General visit to other countries and UN functions are 2 different things. We have permanent folks at the UN for a reason. It's not the job of the Nigerian embassy to draw up and formulate UN schedules or chaperon the president around the UN for official UN engagements inside the UN. This is the job of the Nigerian mission at the UN. You people come up with the most thoughtless ignorant and unintelligent rubbish... |

lastpage: Well said.
But pray tell me, whose duty is it, to "coordinate and communicate" for/to the President, in a UN general Assembly forum?
Am l wrong to say that Nigeria's UN. Permanent Rep (our UN ambassador) has A DUTY and RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that the President's itinerary is clear, unambiguous, well coordinated and communicated clearly to him as at when due?
That is the crux of the matter at hand.
If as the Director/CEO of a Bank, l go to a branch in another state and the branch Manager who is supposed to be my "ears and eyes" on ground, muddles up my schedules to the point that l miss "business dignitaries" that l am suppose to meet and strike business deals with or miss my "contemporary business dinners", l would fire him immediately and let someone who is "enthusiastic about their job" take over. I have been there and know what l am saying here.
We have her types in other countries that the President has visited in recent times and these kind of lapses was not seen/heard of! With six years on the job, she has no excuse to offer.... except Sabotage ofcourse.... and that is good enough!
Lastpag!
BTW: I find it amusing you mentioned those two books.... you must think l have read them, right! Lovely, l like that though 'native intelligence' bares me out. The Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations is part of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada. We are the primary channel for communications between the Canadian government and the United Nations in New York City.
The Administrative Section supports the Mission’s diplomats and looks after security, personnel, procurement, travel and conference services.
The Mission also hosts and supports official delegations from Canada for conferences and special events such as the opening of the General Assembly each September.

A country's mission to an international organization is an advisory body to the head of government concerning all issues and dealings with that organization. Failure to identify and inform the government of the relevant meetings that needs to be attended is a failure of the mission in one of its most elementary duties. The head of mission and all its members involved directly or remotely should be recalled and remanded to desk duties at the foreign affairs ministry with close monitoring for the next five years. They have all apparently being sleeping at their duty post all these while. Very well said... |
