Mogidi: As long as they stay in their neck of the woods and bomb their people to oblivion its cool by me, no need to repent.
And what if they don't stop? You are still helpless right?

Mogidi: How feasible do you think it will be to arrest the Buko hari leader Buhari? The entire feudal north will see it as an attack on Islam.
I know your type so it's time I stop wasting my time and ignore your type.

Mogidi: Why don't people like you blame those who said they'd make Nigeria ungovernable? Why don't you direct your anger at the radical religion rewarding jihad? Stop chasing shadows because we know the root cause of this mayhem is to force a muslim president on us.
Are you saying the imaginary people you are talking about are above the law, they are above the Nigerian president, they are more powerful than the Nigerian president and the Nigerian military and the only solution is hiring American company to launder Jonathan's locally and internationally dirty and terrible image?

You people have silly and moronic answer for every habitual

atlwireles: The CCTV contract was for crime prevention. It was not 100% shield against crime. By the way the major program with CCTV is a frequency problem, the engineers are working on it. The 2nd Nyanya bombing like every other bombing, will be stoppable when Islamic mad men repent. Some of you don't understand the problem, we are currently facing in this country.
So, until they repent we are all going to die because they are more powerful than the Nigerian military and the Nigerian president.

Boko Haram, abeg repent because we are all powerless and defenseless even with our $6 billion defense budget.

Sometimes I just wonder about Jonathan and his online town criers..

Mogidi: Don't be a shmuck, Bush had patriotic soldiers at his beck and call. What's the use passing Patriot Act etc that will be disregarded by a region and an army hell bent on causing chaos because they don't have the presidency?
1. This has nothing to do with Nigeria but more about Nigerian and bad leadership.

2. GEJ appointed his own service chiefs and his service chiefs are yet to give Nigerians return on their investments.

3. The military trying to fool Nigerians and lying to Nigerians that they rescued the missing girls was unpatriotic and Jonathan refusing to punish or fire the liars and the people involved was equally unpatriotic.

4. Sending Nigerian military men to fight Boko Haram without proper tools to fight with and on empty stomach is unpatriotic.

5. You can not blame the leaders and the people in the states involved simply because at the end of the day, Jonathan is the president and he swore oath to protect every Nigerian including every soul living in the affected states regardless and if he can not do just that, why not just step aside.

6. Jonathan declared state of emergency int he affected states which means Jonathan is in charge of the same affected states, it means he assumed all responsibilities, it means the states are under executive and military rule so it's pretty much ignorant and pointless to point accusing finger at other people.

7. The fact that Boko Hram operates freely and openly for hours in the same states where Jonathan and his military remains in charge and under state of emergency and curfew means they are either worthless, incompetent or just uncaring.

8. You yourself in your corner of Nigeria far far away from the affected states are not safe simply because Jonathan can not protect just 3 out of 36 states.

9. Many Nigerians have died due to bombings in Abuja so who do you blame for that and how safe are you since the Nigerian military and the president can not protect his own immediate vicinity in Abuja where he sleeps?

10. When passing laws, there always obstacles regardless. In the US when they passed the Patriot act, there was oppositions and and lawsuits against the US government everywhere, but the courts sided with the and the people agreed that they must be protected regardless.

Leaders do the right thing always regardless of societal issues and oppositions. ...but so far, the only thing the president did was hiring an American company to repaint his dirty image.

But the same dirty old wine in new bottle is still the same dirty old wine we all know and see on display everyday.

CASTING aside all pretentions to the democratic ideal of freedom, the Goodluck Jonathan Administration is blossoming into a fully-fledged dictatorship. Opposition party governors have been hounded and stopped from travelling. Even the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, tasted the bitter pill of harassment from soldiers in a supposedly democratic government.

In a poignant, but ominous replay of the jackboot of a military dictatorship, Governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State were prevented from travelling to Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, to attend a political rally organised by their party — the All Progressives Congress — two days to the governorship election of June 21.

Amaechi was allowed to land his jet in nearby Ondo State, but his motorcade was intercepted at the Ekiti/Ondo border by soldiers reportedly acting “on orders from above.” They prevented him from completing his journey by road. The aircraft was also later prevented from flying out of Akure. Similarly, Oshiomhole was stopped from flying out of Benin Airport en route to Ekiti. The military officials who stopped him also claimed to be acting “on orders from above.”

Conversely, three top government/Peoples Democratic Party officials were alleged to have been given access to the Akure Airport the same day. These untoward developments suggest that Jonathan is treading on dangerous territory. Lessons from our past are instructive: no matter how brutal governments had been, the country had always overcome their repression. Riding on the back of a tiger to obtain victory could turn out to be very costly.

These acts of interdiction by the government are illegal. They are clearly unconstitutional. The 1999 Nigerian Constitution, in Section 41, expressly guarantees the right of movement to every Nigerian. These happenings are a sign of the growing dictatorial tendencies of the Jonathan government. If highly-placed Nigerians can have their movement curtailed, then ordinary citizens would become easy prey for the overzealous soldiers.

Rivers State Government was spot-on in its comments, saying, “Not even in the worst days of the abhorrent military dictatorship were things done this brazenly, with citizens being denied their fundamental rights of free movement, free assembly and free expression, all because of the desperation of the ruling party to win elections at all costs.” The statement by Edo State was also illuminating. It said, “These acts (preventing opposition governors from campaigning) are illegal and definitely not in line with the Electoral Act…”

It is more worrying that Jonathan has failed to speak out against the civil rights infractions of the military. He seems unconcerned as the country under his government slides into a Gestapo state.

Early in June, the police had taken over the palace of the Emir of Kano, preventing the newly-appointed Emir, Lamido Sanusi, from operating from there. Not only that, opposition governors and party chiefs who flew to Kano to witness Sanusi’s inauguration were barred from attending the ceremony when the military placed bans on flights in and out of Kano. It was a move that reeked of political vendetta against Sanusi and the opposition APC, which controls Kano, following the defection of Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Sanusi, the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was suspended from office last February after alleging that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, did not remit about $20 billion to the Federation Account over an eight-month period.

Only last week, Tambuwal, who had once accused Jonathan of encouraging corruption with his body language, was shabbily treated at the venue of a security seminar in Kaduna, Kaduna State. Although other dignitaries were allowed free entry, the soldiers on duty insisted that Tambuwal’s official car must be searched, forcing him to disembark and trek the rest of the way to the venue. The security personnel also said they were acting on “orders from above.”

In a democratic society, these illegalities must not be treated lightly. All lovers of liberty must rise up against this growing reign of impunity. As the Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, and Femi Falana, a civil rights lawyer, advised, the affected governors should go to court to enforce their fundamental human rights.

The suspicion that the Presidency is complicit in the gale of repression by the military could be deduced from the silence of Jonathan. When the military went astray late in May, seizing and destroying newspapers across the country, in an unprecedented assault on free speech never witnessed in a democratic era, the President, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, failed to address the issue or demand explanations from his troops.

Last year, five opposition state governors, who were on a solidarity visit to Amaechi in Rivers State, were hounded by armed thugs while the conniving police looked on; their vehicles were damaged. A senator, Magnus Abe, was attacked by thugs and injured by police teargas at a rally in support of Amaechi. Add the recent allegations that signals of the British Broadcasting Corporation and Voice of America Hausa services were ordered to be blocked, and a grim picture of Jonathan’s descent into tyranny becomes very clear.

In saner climes, the record of repression by the Jonathan government and the way he is using the military to subvert civil rights would have landed him in serious trouble. But, rather than accept their fate, tamely, those whose rights have been abridged should seek legal redress. Civil society groups and other Nigerians, especially members of the Nigerian Bar Association, should not fold their arms and allow the country’s democracy to be further desecrated without lawful challenge.

The city of Chicago plans to deploy more than 2,000 surveillance cameras in public places that would be tied into sophisticated software to spot emergencies or suspicious behavior under a plan announced by Mayor Richard Daley.

“Cameras are the equivalent of hundreds of sets of eyes,” Daley told The Associated Press. “They are the next best thing to having police officers stationed at every potential trouble spot.”

Officials say the bulk of the cameras are already in use at O'Hare International Airport, on the city's transit lines and in public housing, parks and schools. An additional 250 surveillance cameras still to be bought will raise the number available to more than 2,000.

The cameras would not all be continuously monitored by officers; however, software that detects activity on the video images, such as a bag being abandoned in a stairwell or wrong-way movement, will be coupled with the cameras.

If the software picked up suspicious behavior, a staff member in the city's Office of Emergency Management would be alerted.

Operators in 9-1-1 centers would be able to control a camera's image to help direct aid to a victim or gather evidence for police.

The Chicago system is expected to be in place by the spring of 2006. The $5.1 million cost will be covered through a federal Homeland security grant.

Who did he ran to with your money to launder his image and cover up his incompetent and corrupt ways?

Politics › Re: CCTV Few Meters From The Emab Blast Scene Not Functioning by aresa:
1. PREMIUM TIMES has learnt that some of the CCTV cameras installed around the capital city are mere toys, ostensibly fixed to deceive the public.

2. PREMIUM TIMES has learnt that some of the materials deployed for the critical national security infrastructure are of low quality compared to what those used in China. Yet Nigerian authorities are not known to have lifted a finger in protest.

3. Article 4 of MoU specifically indicated that the terms agreed upon by the parties be kept secret.
“The terms of this MoU are agreed by both parties to be confidential. All confidential information shall not be disclosed to third parties or used for any other purpose or the possibility of a business relationship between the parties unless agreed by both parties,” the document read.
The secrecy clause in the MoU, PREMIUM TIMES gathered, was created to allow top officials of the Police Affairs Ministry and the presidency to negotiate away some of the critical elements of the project.
This is how careless, callous, crooked and corrupt Nigerian leaders and officials are. Every act is laced with crookedness, meanness, unpatriotic mentality and wholesale corruption.

The loan they sourced from China to set up the CCTVs was meant for rural telephony, but it was diverted and used to buy Camera Toys to deceive Nigerians.

To cover their tracks and prevent Nigerians from asking questions since they knew exactly that the Cameras are toys and going to be non functional, they inserted secrete provisions into the contract stipulating that every no part of the contract shall be disclosed or revealed to anybody or any entity. Imagine our own government colluding with foreign companies to swindle public funds while at the same time telling the same Nigerian public to STFU and look the other way.

Bottom line, the money is gone and all we have to show for it is nothing but worthless Toy Cameras and a secrete contract telling us not to ask questions and keep the details about how they swindle us secrete and confidential.

Boko Haram is the least of our problem, we should worry more about our own government because they are worse than Boko Hram.

They put us in this precarious situation, they can not even defend and protect us and on top of that, they frustrate every efforts to keep us out of arms way while laughing all the way to their secrete bank accounts and also while Nigerians get blown to pieces with zero relief in sight and also while our president spends taxpayers money on foreign image laundering companies to erase his never ending corrupt ways, incompetence and aimless administration.

Crookedness, corruption and incompetence won again.

Btw, we are still on the hook and must repay the $500 million loan for the non functioning CCTV toys.

This country is truly on the brinks.

Remember, this is the same leader whose military initially claimed it had freed the girls, whose wife’s anger was directed at Nigerians protesting the government’s inaction rather than the kidnappers and who presides over Africa’s largest economy and fourth-largest armed forces.

Meanwhile, this week Boko Haram kidnapped another 90 Nigerian children and set off a massive bomb in the heart of the nation’s capital.
Apparently the government’s secret plan to get the girls back — which President Jonathan says he has to “remain quiet about” — isn’t much impressing them
This useless man goofs all the time, he disgraces and embarrass Nigerians everyday, but unfortunately for Nigerians, he's spending their money to clean up his mess while at the same time making a fool of himself all over again.

Money and image laundering can not buy competence, money can not not buy brains and good judgment, money can not stop or erase your corrupt ways like covering corruption, protecting and appointing corrupt people to work for you.

The stupid editorial you wasted our money on wont stop you from goofing tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, it wont even bring back our girls.

Our military boys and girls are underpaid and ill equipped, but you refused to support and yield to their needs and instead you are spending tons of tax payers money to clean up what you really can not clean because you are naturally incompetent and corrupt.

You can not keep asking the world to see you in a different light while at the same time not doing what you are supposed to do.

It cost nothing for Nigerians and the world to see you in a good light, you don't even have to buy their attention, your work and efforts is enough to buy all the good image on the surface of the earth.

In your Op-Ed, you said you are care and returning the girls to their parents is your immediate priority, but this is a lie not only because for weeks you refused to admit that the girls were missing, you refused to say a word or console Nigerians and instead went dancing in Kano, your own wife and the woman you sleep with not only didn't believe that the girls were missing, she used tax payers funded TV and media to ridicule and abuse them on National TV.

Why not let the world see your efforts?

Why not let the world see you showing bravery and leadership?

Why not rescue the girls first and let the world make up their own mind if you really are a caring man or not?

Why not let the world see you fight corruption with all the tools at your disposal?

Why not stop protecting and shielding the corrupt people you hang around with?

Why not stop making childish, idiotic, foolish and irresponsible statements like stealing is not corruption?

You can not buy goodwill with money, let your actions speak for you, let the world see you at work, let the world see you showing leadership, let the world see you bring back our girls, let the world see you fight corruption and put corrupt people in jail, let the world see you stop appointing and surrounding yourself with corrupt people.

All the above steps cost nothing so stop wasting taxpayers money on fools gold.

Chukwuebuka Anisiobi

My name is Chukwuebuka Anisiobi and I am the winner of the very first spelling bee contest held in 2001. I attended the Maryland Comprehensive High School in Ikeja I represented my school at the local government level of the spelling bee competition which was actually a science quiz. I won the science competition and this qualified me to represent my local government at the district level of the grand finale of the spelling bee competition.

I won a grand prize of N100 which was kept in a trust for me until I turned 18. After winning the competition, I acted as a "one day Governeor" of Lagos State and I was also sponsored on an exhcange trip to Finland for five weeks.

Mrs Remi Tinubu has remained very close to me well after winning the competition. I received a scholarship from her foundation- The New Era Foundation for my university education. I also got a recommendation from Mrs. Tinubu which helped me secure admission at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife where I was admitted to study Computer engineering.

She also personally attended leadership summits I organized as president of Junior Chamber International, a non-governmental organisation in the Obafemi Awolowo University. She donated money to help sponsor an indigent child- Miss. Kafayat Abidogun from primary school up to university. She also attended my graduation ceremony at the Obafemi Awolowo University.

I also accompanied Mrs. Tinubu on official trips to the Ministry of Education and Sports to meet the respective Ministers to discuss the possibility of making some initiatives of the New Era Foundation- The spelling bee and wheel chair tennis competition, nation- wide competitions.

INTENDING retirees and “senior citizens” in Lagos State, can look forward to an enjoyable life in retirement without traveling out of Lagos, known for its busy and frenzied city life. This is because a new haven equipped with all facilities for relaxation and recreation has been built for them.

The sprawling mansion, known as Retirement Villa and built on a 7,240.48 square metres land in Lekki Phase II as a novel idea of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), has been commissioned for use yesterday.

COWLSO, chaired by the wife of Lagos State governor, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, is a community-based gender organisation founded in 1974 by the wife of the first Military Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Funmilayo Johnson, to complement the efforts of government to provide recreational centres, mobilize grassroots support for child healthcare, and canvass for resources to empower women.

The project was conceived and the land for the facility purchased by former chairperson of COWLSO, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Since 2006, New Era Foundation has been organising the Annual Wheelchair Tennis Championships in collaboration with the Nigerian Tennis Federation as a means of providing psycho-social support for the physically challenged.”

This exceptional tournament, first initiated in Nigeria by NEF, has provided an excellent platform for the emergence of many Nigerian Wheelchair Tennis stars, some of whom are now current African Champions. Apart from the cash prizes, participants receive morale-boosting emotional and psychological affirmation of their value as sportsmen (& women), and more importantly, human beings.

Wheelchair Tennis is now being vigorously promoted by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) as a world class sport, with plans for integration with able-bodied tennis wherever possible.

Among the Foundation’s success stories since its establishment in 2000 is the annual Spelling Bee competition, in which the star attraction for the overall winner is the opportunity to be ‘Governor for One Day’. The Foundation has also initiated various programmes including the Maggi Junior Chef Competition, the 30-hours Compulsory Community Service in Public Schools, Advocacy Campaigns on HIV/AIDS to Artisans, Market Women, Mechanics and Drivers in Lagos State, amongst others with the overriding objectives of encouraging the wholesome development of the youth and women for a better and brighter future.
