Christianity EtcReligious Differences In Our Marriage- Gov Fashola As A Case Study by argon500(op): 12:00pm On Mar 29, 2015
**How Gov Fashola and I have understood our religious differences in our marriage – Mrs Fashola reveals

The First Lady of Lagos state, Dame Abimbola Fashola opened up on how she and governor Fashola have been able understand and manage their religious differences in an interview with Channels TV on Friday, March 27, 2015. Abimbola Fashola is Catholic. Gov. Fashola is a Muslim.

She said;

We got married in the Church, the Catholic church, that is who I am, that’s where you will take me from and that was done. But ever since then my husband has practiced his religion and I have practiced mine. There is no trouble whatsoever. My husband has his own part of the house where he prays, I have my own altar there with my crucifix and my rosary and everything and everyone is minding their own business. When its time for family prayer, we pray. I pray mine to the name of Jesus Christ while he prays in Allah’s name & the children understand all that. My children are baptized and they go to church. When he wants them to go to mosque with him they go to the mosque with him.

Mrs Fashola also added that most times when she needed to get her husband to do something she wants personally, Fashola would ask her to put it in writing so that he would not forget and give it urgent attention.

PoliticsSouth West, North Favour Buhari. South South, South East Go For Jonathan by argon500(op): 8:10am On Mar 29, 2015
•South South, South East go for Jonathan •Massive turnout nationwide

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari seems to have found favour with most of the voters in four of the nation’s six geo-political zones in yesterday’s election.

General Buhari, according to indications from across the country, got the nod of most voters in the Northwest, Northcentral, Northeast and Southwest, in what observers, local and foreign, described as the nation’s most crucial polls ever.

His performance matches substantially The Nation’s projections on the elections.

Nigerians defied all odds -erratic performance of the card readers, late arrival of electoral materials, rain, thuggery, manipulation and terrorism mainly in the Northeast -to troop out possibly as never before to vote for the next president, senators and members of the House of Representatives.

In Sokoto, Makurdi, Akure, Jos, Minna, Abeokuta, Abuja, Lagos, Benin, the story was the same of enthusiastic Nigerians determined to take their destiny in their hands.

General Buhari, accompanied by his wife, Aisha, voted in his Daura, Katsina home town after accreditation with the aid of the card reader which took no more than two minutes each.

But accreditation was a tough nut for President Goodluck Jonathan and the First Lady, Patience , at the president’s Otuoke hometown.

Four times they tried to use the card reader to verify their finger prints, four times they failed.

The President’s mother, Madam Eunice, passed the card reader’s test easily.

Jonathan’s verification and his wife’s were eventually done manually, the same method adopted in other places where the card reader failed.

INEC extends voting; website hacked into, restored

Following complaints from other parts of the country about the inability of the card readers to identify voters’ finger prints, and to avoid disenfranchising voters, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) granted extension of voting till today at polling stations where accreditation could not be completed on time yesterday.

As it battled with complaints of malfunctioning card readers, a group calling itself Nigerian Cyber Army/Team NCA hacked into the commission’s website

However, INEC’s computer engineers went to work as soon as the hacking was detected and were able to re-host it.

The hackers posted the following on the website: “StruCk By Nigerian Cyber Army | TeaM NCA”

“Sorry xD Your Site has been STAMPED by TeaM Nigerian Cyber Army FEEL SOME SHAME ADMIN!!”

“Security is just an illusion, Remember US :DGREETINGS OF PEACE TO CITIZEN OF NIGERIA FROM TEAM NCA NIGERIANS No Body Can Give You Freedom No Body Can Give You Equality Or Justice If You Are A Man/Woman YOU TAKE IT”

The Commission directed all Resident Electoral Commissioners in the country to conduct election on Sunday in areas where there were hitches.

The list of the affected areas and states was still being kept under wraps as at the time of filing this report.

INEC however said it could not still exactly say what went wrong in Otuoke, Bayelsa State which led to the delay in the accreditation of President Jonathan and his wife.

The Chairman of the Information, Voter Education and Publicity Committee of INEC, Dr. Chris Iyimoga, at a press conference in Abuja admitted that INEC encountered some challenges in the use of Card Readers.

He said the guidelines for the 2015 General Elections had been amended to empower Presiding Officers to “manually accredit voters by marking the register of voters, upon being satisfied that the person presenting a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) is the legitimate holder of the card.”

Flanked by other National Commissioners including Dr. Ishmael Igbani; Alh. Muhammadu Wali; Nuru Yakubu; and Gladys Nwafor, Iyimoga said INEC will “thoroughly investigate what happened in some parts of the country where hitches were recorded.”

His words: “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been monitoring field reports on the accreditation process since the commencement of the poll this morning.

“Whereas the process has gone well in several places, in some others it has encountered some challenges, especially with the use of the Card Readers. Consequently, accreditation has been slow in many places and has not commenced at all in some others.

“Even though the Guidelines for the Conduct of the 2015 General Elections provide that where Card Readers fail to work and cannot be replaced, elections in such Polling Units will be postponed to the following day, the scale of challenge we have observed today has necessitated a reconsideration of this provision of the Guidelines.

“The Commission, has, therefore, decided as part of the Guidelines for the conduct of the 2015 General Elections that in Polling Units where Card Readers have so far failed to work, the Presiding Officer shall manually accredit voters by marking the register of voters, upon being satisfied that the person presenting a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) is the legitimate holder of the card.

“The above notwithstanding, in Polling Units where accreditation was suspended to the following day in accordance with the existing guidelines, arrangements will be made for voters to vote tomorrow, subject to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010( as amended).

“The Commission reassures the voting public that it will thoroughly investigate what happened, while it remains committed to the delivery of free, fair and credible elections in spite of the challenges.”

Iyimoga, who responded to questions from newsmen with his fellow National Commissioners, said all the 37 Resident Electoral Commissioners(RECs) had been directed to conduct poll on Sunday where there were hitches.

He added: “We cannot say at the word go now but each REC of the Federation has been informed. The problems are not in all the states of the country but in a few states of the country and each of the RECs has been informed. We can only get the details at the end of the day.

He said generally the commencement time was quite good across all borders.

He said: “Generally we commenced accreditation at a very good time, in FCT for instance we had a problem with the Union of Transport workers but that was sorted out.

“I want to assure we have made progress,. In fact I had to vsit the office of Resident Electoral Commissioner of the FCT and while there two observer teams, including that of the US Ambassador, were on ground to see us. They had gone round a number of Polling Units and at about 12 noon, about 85-90 per cent where he visited he was very impressed. And this cuts across. This does not mean we don’t have challenges in other states.

“In a few other states of course there were still some challenges but generally the commencement time was quite good across all borders.

“Like we said and we will keep saying, we can only do our best but there are still other parameters that take us through what we can call an excellent election.

“The process of election has to do with many people. Remember that for our adhoc staff to move out, for instance, we decided to decentralize the process. Sensitive materials were kept in the CBN vault and in one of the day or so they were taken to INEC offices in the states.

“By Thursday they were distributed to Local Government Areas, and then took them down toward level and at the Registration Area Centres (RACS) the items were kept. The belief therefore was that as early as 5.30 to 6am, movement to the various Polling Units would have commenced but INEC does not move alone, before you move there must be security backup.

“So there are numbers of issues and processes that go through making the entire thing play well. Generally it has been quite impressive apart from these few challenges I just talked about right now.

On the delay in accrediting President Goodluck Jonathan and First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, a National Commissioner, Dr. Ishmael Igbani, said INEC could not say what went wrong.

Igbani said: “No one can really say what went wrong. The machine, the Card Reader did not pick the finger print of Mr President and Wife but those who were attended to earlier on their finger prints were picked.

“But part of the process in using the Card Reader is that when such a situation occurs, we will use the incident report and that is what the President and the wife were accredited to vote.”

Regarding the hacking of INEC website, Engr. Nuru Yakubu said all the contents on the website had been relocated to another site.

He said: “Our ICT experts reported that our website was hacked and that it was down, and they worked very hard and were able to rectify the problem by simple lifting all the contents on our site and relocating it to another location.

“So the INEC website as I speak with you now is up and running.”

I hope to win, says Jonathan after voting

President Jonathan, after his accreditation, later returned to polling Unit 39, Ward 13 to cast his vote.

Asked by reporters about his chances in the election, he said “You can see that it’s peaceful everywhere. I believe and I’m convinced that the elections will be free and fair and extreme credible.”

He said the gunfire in Gombe was not related to election, adding that the shooting was between soldiers and insurgents attempting to escape from the Sambisa forest.

The president refused to blame the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the hitches encountered in some areas, saying everyone could still vote with the alternative arrangements.

“We appreciate the patience of those who are yet to vote. They should sympathise with INEC. It wants to use the card readers to make sure that our electoral process is credible and acceptable by international observers.

“This is the first time we are voting with the card readers. There have been some issues in some units, but we should bear with them. I believe that at the end of the day we all will be happy,” Jonathan said.

Asked about his assessment of the election based on information available to him, he said: “I have information but it is not everything that I can say. INEC has the responsibility to talk about their functions. There are complaints about PVCs and card readers not working.

“At the same time INEC has directed that in polling units where the card readers are not working, they should take the manual option, so I believe all Nigerians who want to vote will definitely vote, and that is the good news.

“The only thing is that some people probably must have stayed there longer than necessary. But I still plead with them that even if they spend 24 hours for the sake of this country, please they should bear with us, they should do it,” he said.

On INEC, Jonathan said the government is one, and the commission cannot be held solely responsible for the hitches.

He said: “I don’t blame anyone. But as a nation, we have different departments of government that handle responsibilities. The issue of election is INEC’s exclusive responsibility, and nobody will speak for them.”

Few hiccups can’t undermine these election, says Buhari

Gen. Buhari, speaking to reporters in Daura after voting at Sarkin Yara A, Kofa Barau 3 polling unit in Liman ward said the hiccups in a few places should not be allowed to undermine the integrity of the election.

The General who was wore a white babanriga , a stipend cap and black shoes to match arrived the polling unit at about 4.47 to a rousing reception and shouts of Sai Baba by voters who were practically falling over each other to catch a glimpse of him.

He said: ” I like the integrity of the system. I am very pleased about it. That means that if people are allowed to vote, rigging will be virtually impossible. I think that INEC has done very well and I have said it to your colleagues elsewhere that from their presentations to the National Council of States which I happened to be a member, this time around, INEC has done extremely well”.

He however admitted that the card reader failed to work in some areas, put expressed satisfaction with the decision of INEC to allow election to hold on Sunday in places where elections could not hold on Saturday.

“I must admit that again, I am happy with the decision take by INEC that in places where election has not taken place, it will take place tomorrow. From the information we are getting which has not been confirmed, there is failure of some of the card readers.

“For example, it took me less than five minutes for accreditation. When I came back home, I was watching on television and it took the President about 30 minutes to be accredited. But it took his wife and mother about two minutes each to do it. There is discrepancy in the performance of those gadgets. For INEC to give the notice that because of failure in some of the equipment, elections will continue tomorrow where elections did not happen today”.

On whether he would accept the outcome of the election if the results did not go his own way, he said “My way is Nigeria’s way . Even before the first Abuja peace accord,I had told my supporters not to be rude or take up weapon against any Nigerian.

“After that, we signed the first Abuja accord presided over by Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations which we all signed as Presidential candidates and the recent one signed three days ago between me and Jonathan presided over by General Abdulsalami Abubakar, Bishop Kukah and Bishop Onaiyekon and two others.

Speaking on the alleged intimidation of APC supporters in Rivers State, Buhari said he spoke with Governor Rotimi Amaechi ” and I think that what has been happening in Rivers state is a continuation of the hostility between the ruling party the APC. It is so real and the governor has been fighting and today, it got out of hand. ”

Sambo reverts to old polling booth

Vice-President Namadi Sambo and his wife, Amina relocated from their old polling unit, Camp Road to Swimming Pool Road in Kabala Ward in Kaduna to vote yesterday .

The development might not be unconnected with the outright defeat the VP faced in all the polls in the 2011 general elections.

But, Sambo’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Umar Sani, said, the VP only reverted to his original polling unit and commended INEC for bringing back Sambo and his wife to their original polling unit.

Sambo himself who spoke to newsmen shortly after casting his votes, described the exercise as smooth and peaceful.

?Meanwhile, ?a man suspected to have fixed a network jammer in his car to disrupt the card readers escaped being lynched by irritate youths who queued to be accredited at Kasuwan Barchi area of Tudun Wada in Kaduna metropolis.

?

According to an eyewitness, the suspect jammed card readers at a polling unit in Tudun Wada from his car packed close to the polling unit.

His manipulation was said to have succeeded in stopping the card readers from working for some times.

Card Reader dysfunction not severe – PDP chair, Mu’azu

Reacting yesterday to complaints about the card readers, the PDP National Chairman, Malam Adamu Mu’azu, said the situation was not as bad as being portrayed.

The percentage of the technical hitches encountered with the card readers during the accreditation was not beyond tolerance, he said in his Boto, Bauchi State hometown.

He rejected calls for the cancellation of the use of Card Reader machines for the accreditation of voters.

“I cannot arbitrarily call for the cancellation of the usage of the Card Readers and the Permanent Voter Cards. I know professor Jega to be a successful and courageous intellectual and so far he has done very well,” Premium Times quoted him as saying.

PoliticsNigeria Denies Boko Haram Seized 500 Children by argon500(op): 9:42pm On Mar 25, 2015
Nigeria's government has denied that militant Islamist group Boko Haram abducted 500 children from the north-eastern town of Damasak.
A former resident said on Tuesday that the militants had taken away about 500 boys when they fled the town earlier this month.
Government spokesman Mike Omeri said the number was lower, but he could not say exactly how many had been seized.
Regional forces recaptured Damasak, a trading town, earlier in March.
Mr Omeri said that the militants released some women and children when they fled the town, but not those "they had married in the period of occupation".
The militants were using them as "protection" and the government had ordered "full military intervention" to secure their release, he said.
Damasak is in Borno state near Niger's border and is about 200km (120 miles) from the state's main city of Maiduguri.

Damasak businessman Malam Ali, whose brother is among those missing, told the BBC Hausa Service on Tuesday that young boys had been put in a madrassa, or Islamic school, by Boko Haram when they took over the town at the end of last year.
Following the recapture of the town, those boys, numbering about 500, had not been accounted for, he said, while Reuters news agency quoted residents as saying more than 400 women and children had been abducted.
Chibok girls
BBC Nigeria correspondent Will Ross says the conflict has torn many families apart.
As towns have changed hands it has been impossible to work out how many people have been killed and how many are missing, he adds.

Last week, the decomposing bodies of more than 70 people were discovered under a bridge near Damasak.
Nigeria's military has still failed to free more than 200 girls abducted more than a year ago from Chibok, also in Borno state.
The abductions caused international outrage, and foreign governments promised to help Nigeria 's military find the girls.
Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has said the girls have been married off.
The group has waged a six-year insurgency in Nigeria to create an Islamic state, killing thousands of people and capturing many towns and villages.
Regional forces launched an offensive about six weeks ago to regain territory ahead of delayed presidential and parliamentary elections, now due on Saturday.

PoliticsChibok Girls Are In Gwoza, Says Freed Boko Haram Abductee by argon500(op): 7:06pm On Mar 25, 2015
Over 200 girls abducted in Chibok in April 2014 are being held in Gwoza town in Borno State, a woman who was recently released by the Boko Haram sect has told the icirnigeria.org.
She said she was held in the same location as the abducted Chibok girls.
Mbutu Papka, 56, who was kidnapped in July 2014 and held by the insurgents for eight months in two locations, said confidently that the abducted girls were being held under very tight security in a house in Gwoza.
Ms. Papka said nobody is allowed near the fenced building where the abducted girls are being held under 24-hour security. Even the heavily armed guards, who keep watch over the girls round the clock, it was learnt, are only allowed to go into the house to deliver food, water and other supplies to them.
The woman was seized along with others when Boko Haram attacked Gwoza on July 4, 2014 and taken to Mdita, a remote village near the notorious Sambisa Forest, bordering Askira Uba, Damboa and Gwoza.
The abductees, who included many children, according to Ms. Papka, were kept in Mdita for five months before being transferred to Gwoza, where they were held for three months before they were finally released on March 15.
It was while in Gwoza that she learnt that the Chibok Girls, whose abduction has attracted global attention, were being housed in a compound adjacent to where she and other abducted people were kept.
Asked how she knew the girls were there, Ms. Papka said she never saw the Chibok girls, but explained that people in the area pointed at the heavily guarded flat and said the girls were inside.
Because access to the house was restricted, she said, the girls apparently did their own cooking and chores by themselves.
“In the camp at Gwoza, there were clear demarcations between where people were kept. The Chibok girls, other captives and Boko Haram members and their family members all had their separate areas secured, though the security in the area where the girls are kept is visibly different and much tighter,” she said.
Ms. Papka explained that the conditions under which the captives in Gwoza were kept were fairly tolerable and far better than the first location, as there was water supply.
She said that after they were taken to Gwoza, their living conditions improved remarkably because the town has modern facilities, as opposed to the rustic Mdita.
“When we got to Gwoza, things changed because there were facilities there and the place was 10 times better than Mdita. We had a normal life in Gwoza, except the trauma of living in captivity. Whatever we wanted to eat, they were provided. They would bring water, firewood, etc., and leave them outside,” she explained.
A few other comforts were provided.
“They even provided perfume for anyone who requested for it,” she added.
According to her, at Mdita, she met other abducted people including women and children, among whom were many under the age of seven, all living in terrible conditions.
“There was a room we used to urinate in and because of lack of water, the place stank and maggots were everywhere. We took our baths once daily, if we were lucky,” she said.
Because of the terrible conditions and absence of health care facilities in the camp, many people fell sick and some died.
“There was a Redeemed Christian Church of God pastor who was killed during the attack on our village, and his wife was abducted with us. She died at Mdita due to the condition of the place and the death of her husband,” Ms. Papka said.
The pastor’s wife, she explained, had diabetes and, before her abduction, had been on a special diet which could not be provided by the insurgents.
Ms. Papka said she and the other women were not raped or assaulted, although she could not speak for the Chibok girls because nobody was allowed to see or interact with them.
She also said that the Boko Haram men lived with their wives and children in the Gwoza camp, but kept away from others and cooked their own meals.
On March 15, 2015, after three months in Gwoza, Ms. Papka and 10 other older women were taken from the camp, herded into a vehicle and driven to Izge, a village, from where she was taken to her own village on a motorcycle because the road is bad.
The ride, however, was not free.
“I was asked to pay N8, 000 for the motorcycle ride, which I collected from my family,” she stated.
This website also learnt that a two-year old boy was given to Ms. Papka when she was released. The boy, who is reported to be sick and has rashes on his body, has since been reunited with his family, which is now seeking financial assistance to take the child to hospital.
“He was crying uncontrollably, so they (Boko Haram) handed him over to me as we were leaving,” she said.
Gwoza local government area of Borno State, which is just over 100 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital, is said to be one of the council areas still wholly in the hands of Boko Haram terrorists.
Gwoza town was first captured by the insurgents in August last year, following a heavy gun attack by insurgents who hoisted the sect’s flag and declared it the headquarters of the group’s Caliphate.
Over 12,000 persons were displaced from the town and repeated attempts by the military to recapture it in the past have failed largely due to the hilly terrain, which provide hiding places for the terrorists from which to operate.
This website has learnt that it is not the first time that released Boko Haram abductees have claimed to know where the Chibok girls are being held.
Emman Shehu, a founding member of the Bring Back Our Girls group, told our reporter during the week that a young girl who was released last week and an elderly woman had previously claimed that the Chibok girls were being kept in Damboa and Sambisa area.
Mr. Shehu, who is also director of the International Institute of Journalism, Abuja, said: “Two people, a young girl and an elderly lady have said in the past that they know where the Chibok girls were being kept, the girl saying that only last week.
“We have heard people say in the past that they know where they are. We heard before that some of them were in Damboa, but the military has reclaimed Damboa and they did not say the girls are there,” he said.
The whereabouts of the Chibok girls has been a mystery since April last year when they were kidnapped while writing exams in their school.
Mr. Shehu, who lambasted the military for the manner it handled the abduction of the girls, said that since April when they were kidnapped, the military has made no attempt to rescue them.
If there had been any rescue mission, he observed, the military would have been giving regular updates about the progress being made in that effort.
“There has never been a rescue mission by the Nigerian military to free the Chibok girls,” he said, adding that the federal government and defence headquarters have not shown seriousness or the political will to rescue the girls.
For example, Mr. Shehu said, the #BringBackOurGirls group learnt during the visit of Yousafzai Malala, the Pakistani girl-child education activist, to Nigeria, that the 57 girls who escaped from the insurgents had not been debriefed either by the military or any other security agency.
More than 200 young girls were abducted by Boko Haram gunmen at the Government Girls Secondary School, GGSS, Chibok, on April 14, 2014, the same day that suicide bombers wreaked havoc in Nyanya, on the outskirts of Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
It was reported that the 276 girls who were writing their final West African School Certificate, WASC, exams were kidnapped when the insurgents attacked the town pretending to be security guards and asked the girls to come with them.
What followed, particularly the reaction from the Nigerian government, caused a lot of outrage that eventually changed the dynamics in the fight against the sect.
Less than 48 hours after the abduction and Abuja bomb blast, President Goodluck Jonathan was pictured dancing at a rally in Kano, and it took him almost three weeks to publicly speak about the incident, saying government was doing all it could to free the girls.
It was also reported that the Nigerian military had four hours intelligence prior to the kidnapping, something the military later admitted, but said its over-stretched forces could not immediately send in reinforcements.
The government’s attitude drew widespread criticism and protests grew against its response, which was viewed as tepid. Protests were also held in major Western cities, including Los Angeles and London.
At the same time, the popular movement for the release of the girls, the Bring Back Our Girls group, was formed. The movement’s hashtag, #BringBackOurGirls, attracted more than two million tweets within its first week.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, once said that the military had located the girls, but ruled out a forceful rescue mission for fear of harming the abducted girls.
On July 23 and 24, 2014, vigils and protests to mark 100 days of the abduction were held in Nigeria, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Togo, the United Kingdom, the United State, Canada, and Portugal and following global attention brought by the abduction, the UK, US, France, China, Canada, Israel and the European Union all offered support to Nigeria.
But despite all efforts by Nigeria and other nations, the abducted girls have remained in captivity, with no clue about their fate.
If Ms. Papka’s present condition is anything to go by, even if the girls have not suffered any physical abuse, the emotional and psychological trauma inflicted by their experience would be, indeed, enormous.
ICIR reporter learnt that Ms. Papka’s experience appears to have left a permanent impact on her. Her children say she is like a stranger to them. She is easily scared by sounds and approaching footsteps and prefers to stay alone, not talking to anyone.
These are apparently effects of her abduction and detention by the insurgents. Sadly, there is no mechanism put in place either by the state or federal government, or even civil society organisations, to provide any kind of counselling or medical care and assistance for her.
It was learnt that the Borno State government is aware of the release of the 11 women by Boko Haram as their return home was widely celebrated in many villages, but as at Wednesday morning, 10 days after, no state official has visited any of them or offered any kind of assistance.
On Wednesday, when our reporter talked to one of her relatives, she said the family was planning to take her to see a psychologist.
Attempts by the icirnigeria.org to share information about the girls’ whereabouts with the military and get its reaction were not successful, as the Director of Defence Information, Major-General Chris Olukolade, said in a telephone conversation that he was out of town.
Although it was agreed that the information was too sensitive to be shared on the telephone and that a face-to-face meeting was necessary, Mr. Olukolade, who said he was returning to Abuja on Tuesday, has not reverted to us at the time of publishing this report.

PoliticsEligibility Suit: Buhari Escapes Disqualification As Court Adjourns To April 22 by argon500(op): 2:07pm On Mar 25, 2015
Justice Adeniyi Ademola Wednesday morning put paid to speculations that the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari might be disqualified from participating in Saturday’s election when he adjourned hearing in the 10 separate suits seeking to bar the APC candidate till April 22 and 23, about a month after the presidential election.

Justice Adeniyi however dismissed the applications filed by two human right activists, Mr. Chukwuma Ochu who is a member of the APC in Rivers State, and Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa from Lagos state seeking to be joined as defendants in the suit.

The APC had last week alleged a plot by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to use the courts to find its presidential candidate guilty of perjury and disqualify him from participating in Saturday’s poll.

In a ruling yesterday, Justice Adeniyi said he would hear the substantive suits and all the preliminary objectons that were raised against them by both Buhari and the APC together.

All the pending applications were consolidated for hearing on a day two human right activists, Mr. Chukwuma Ochu who is a member of the APC in Rivers State, and Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa from Lagos state, applied to be joined as interested parties in the matter.
The court noted that since all the suits were basically anchored on the same subject matter, which is the eligibility or otherwise of Buhari to contest in the forthcoming presidential election having allegedly supplied false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, with regards to his educational qualifications, it would be better to slate all of the matters for hearing on the same day.
Details later.

PoliticsNigerian Forces Show Readiness To Provide Adequate Security During Elections by argon500(op):
The One Division of Nigerian Army and other security agencies in Kaduna State held a ‘Show of Force’ on Sunday, displaying their readiness for Saturday’s Presidential election.

The security personnel comprising Policemen, Army, Navy, Air Force and other paramilitary agents patrolled major roads and streets in the state capital with patrol vans and Armoured Personnel Carriers to demonstrate their combat readiness ahead of the elections.

The General Officer Commanding One Division of Nigerian Army, Major General Kenneth Osuji, explained that the combined Show of Force was to test their capability and preparedness ahead of the elections, assuring Nigerians that they are ready to contain any situation the during elections.

The blaring of siren by the security personnel took residents of the area by surprise, as some of them initially mistook their presence for a distress response to an emergency situation.

They patrolled along violence prone areas – Tudun Wada, Gonin Gora, Rigasa, Ungwan Rimi and Sabon Tasha areas among others. Most of them were placed on strategic areas, showing how they would be positioned during the elections to ensure they nip in the bud any possible violent situation during the polls.

The security agents are to increase surveillance of all flashpoints, entrance and exit points around the state before, during and after the elections.

Major General Kenneth Osuji also warned that the security agents would deal with anybody who may want to cause trouble before, during and after the election.

He said that the officials were prepared for the elections.

Kaduna was among the states in Nigeria that witnessed post-election violence in 2011.

It is just six days to the commencement of the general elections and the combatant readiness of the security forces, residents are hoping to witness a violent free polls.

PoliticsJonathan, Buhari Lay Siege To South East by argon500(op): 2:10pm On Mar 23, 2015
The two leading presidential candidates, President Goodluck Jonathan and Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) are today and tomorrow shifting their focus on the South-East with separate bids for the zone’s 6.6 million voters.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Buhari, is trying to puncture the seeming strength of President Jonathan in the South-East with rallies and town hall meetings in the zone today.
The tension shadowing the efforts of the two contenders are expected to be tempered today at a joint meeting between the two contenders and President John Mahama of Ghana.
The meeting, it was understood, is expected to provide an opportunity for the two major contenders again to pledge a determination to abide by the rules of the contest.
The APC candidate is expected to attend a strategic meeting of the party’s governors and senior party officials in Owerri today.
Buhari is also expected to preach his message of change at the South-East zonal rally holding on the sidelines of the meeting of the governors and senior party officials.
Following the meeting, the APC candidate is to proceed to Onitsha where he is expected to have an interactive session with traders and religious leaders in the commercial city.
Buhari, according to campaign officials, is also expected to provide assurances to the traders during the session of his determination to ensure a conducive environment for their businesses to flourish.
Buhari’s visit to Onitsha is coinciding with a visit to the same town by First Lady, Patience Jonathan, who is also scheduled to hold a women sensitisation rally in the commercial city.
Mrs. Jonathan, who has maternal links to the South-East, is expected to appeal to the sentiments of her Igbo brothers and sisters in keeping their in-law in office.

President Jonathan is himself expected also to visit Aba, Abia State for a major town hall meeting with the business community in the South-East.
At the town hall meeting, the president is expected to address the concerns of the business community, giving facts and figures on the efforts of his administration in bolstering the environment for small and medium scale businesses.
The president’s renewed interest in the South-East is on the strength of recent mutterings from some stakeholders that the president had disregarded the region and put his focus on the South-West.
President Jonathan swept most of the states in the South-East in 2011 and got more than 90 per cent in most of the states.
However, his political supremacy has faced challenges on account of allegations of inefficiencies in the system.
