** How President Jonathan’s Airport shuttles weaken Abuja security, endanger residents On Saturday, March 21, President Goodluck Jonathan and his campaign team flew out of Abuja in two aircrafts for another round of vote solicitation in Kano and neighbouring Katsina ahead of the March 28 national elections. Four hours before the President left his home at the Presidential villa that Saturday, over 200 police officers and about a hundred soldiers were withdrawn from their beats around the nation’s capital and made to line the about 40 kilometres route to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, some standing with their rifles on their shoulders, some sitting on pavements, stones and bare ground and others snoring away in patrol cars. The police wouldn’t say how many officers are deployed daily to patrol and secure Abuja, but residents believe the nation’s capital is under-policed, with some saying they have never seen a police officer patrol their areas. Yet, that Saturday, hundreds of officers, who could have patrolled streets to check crimes were mandated to line Mr. Jonathan’s route for hours, a practice security experts believe routinely compromises the capital’s security and exposes residents to robbery, abductions, rape, assaults and other criminal acts. A team of PREMIUM TIMES reporters, who monitored the president’s airport shuttle that Saturday, found that nearly all the patrol vehicles attached to the city’s police divisions and major intersections in the capital were withdrawn and used in transporting officers to locations along the major expressway from the State House to the presidential wing of the airport. The team counted at least 40 police patrol vehicles parked along the expressway from the Bolingo Hotel junction up to the Presidential wing entrance of the Airport. Each vehicle had at least five well armed police officers. That was aside the numerous other police officers stationed along the route, without vehicles by their side. The team’s conservative estimate suggested that at least 200 police officers were withdrawn from the city centre to guard the expressway that day. Presidency insiders say that practice is routine, and that there is no plan to review it. Apart from the policemen, the reporters also saw troops from the Guard Brigade in some strategic locations along the route, especially by the several suburb localities. “We saw at least one armoured personnel carrier with some soldiers near the intersection leading to Kuje Area Council before the Airport gate,” one reporter said. Analysts believe it costs Nigeria several millions of naira whenever the President shuttles to airports. The numerous vehicles lining the expressway and the ones on the president’s convoy would have to be fueled, while the police officers on guard duty along the route are paid allowances,” a security official familiar with the working of the presidential villa told PREMIUM TIMES. “Presidential movements are expensive and that is one thing Nigerians must learn to live with.” A resident of one pf the estates along the Abuja Airport expressway, Emmanuel Ogala, said the security official deployed to guard the president’s routes at times molest innocent civilians. “The roads are closed for like 30 minutes before the President passes, God help you if you have an emergency and the president is traveling,” he said. Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos recently blamed the president when armed robbers attacked residents of Lekki Peninsula on March 12, killing six. Mr. Fashola said police officers who would have helped in repelling the bank robbery were deployed to protect Mr. Jonathan when he visited the state that day, an argument the presidency described as unintelligent and irresponsible. “Perhaps what would be would have been, but it’s sad to see all our security personnel, all our security vehicles deployed to protect one man,” said Mr. Fashola, who spoke at an event, An Evening with Buhari and Osinbajo, in Lagos. “All the vehicles we bought for the police were stationed to receive the President in Lagos. Those policemen have children and tonight their mothers will have to explain to them why daddy is not coming home.” The presidency however described Mr. Fashola’s statement as “grossly and utterly irresponsible.” “We expect that a man of his status, who is the Governor of a state should speak more responsibly,” the presidency said in the statement. “It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever that the entire police formation in a state would be deployed to protect the president of Nigeria. “The visit of the President (to) any part of the country does not necessitate the depletion of the police force active in that particular state or its environment.” Source: http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/178901-how-president-jonathans-airport-shuttles-weaken-abuja-security-endanger-residents.html |
President Goodluck Jonathan has reiterated that the idea of an alleged interim government in Nigeria is treasonable, warning persons promoting the idea to cease from doing so. The Nigerian President made the statement in Daura, Katsina State, the birth place of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd). President Jonathan also visited the Emir of Daura, Umar Farouk, where he informed the monarch that the Federal Government had built 28 Almajiri schools and a Federal University in the state. At the Emir’s palace, a traditional title -Dan-Baiwa of Daura Emirate – conferred on President Jonathan in 2011 by the emir of Daura was confirmed. Sources close to the palace told Channels Television that Emir Umar Faruk conferred the president with the title since 2011, a coronation which was probably done away from the press. However, Channels Television cannot independently verify the fact that President Goodluck Jonathan’s coronation was held on Saturday. In a chat with the President, the Emir of Daura urged President Jonathan to ensure free, fair and credible elections deprived of violence. ‘Absurd And Ridiculous’ A leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, had alleged that he was offered an opportunity by President Jonathan to be the Vice President of a planned interim government. President Jonathan has denied the claims, describing it as ‘absurd and ridiculous’. At a Catholic Bishops’ conference on February 22, President Jonathan said he had no intention of heading an interim administration, insisting that “insinuations about a plan for an interim government are tantamount to treason”. He stressed that there was no such provision in the Nigerian constitution. Source: http://www.channelstv.com/2015/03/21/alleged-interim-government-idea-is-treasonable-jonathan/ |
One member of the youth vigilante group, otherwise known as Civilian JTF has been praised for his bravery in preventing another bomb attack by the Boko Haram terrorist group at an Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camp in Maiduguri, Borno State, last Saturday. Icirnigeria reports that bombs were found dropped at the Government Girls Secondary School, GGSS, Maiduguri and defused by soldiers of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, also in the city, following arrests made at a bomb making factory in the Borno State capital. On Monday following a tip off by a young man suspected to be a member of the Boko Haram sect, who had been living in the IDP camp posing as a displaced person. The youth is said to be the mastermind of the plan to plant a bomb in the camp and then detonate it at an opportune time. However, the plan was foiled by a member of the Civilian JTF simply identified as Abdulrahman. He was arrested alongside the suspected Boko Haram member who resided in the IDP camp who led soldiers to the site of the bombs, and they are all being detained at a secured. According to a senior security souce, Abdilraham was a former member of the insurgency group before he renounced the terrorist group. He had however given up on his evil ways and joined the Civilian JTF in Bama and was responsible for some of successes recorded by the military in the fight against insurgency. “We did not know much about him until Bama came under frequent attacks,” the security source said, adding that the authorities “worked with him and he was instrumental in the military’s raid of more than 30 Boko Haram camps.” Abdulrahman, is said to have been invited into a a security meeting involving the Civilian JTF a day before he was arrested and his arrest suprised many people, including Nigerian soldiers, because of his popularity with the military JTF. “The last time I saw him was on Friday when we had a security meeting, a day before he was arrested, our source said in Maiduguri a few days ago. “The information I have is that he was with Boko Haram before he decided to join the Civilian JTF and it was as a result of his link with the group that we recorded a lot of success,” he told icirnigeria. This is not the first time, members of the Civilian JTF were arrested on the suspicion of having links with insurgents. Another source close to the JTF revealed that security agents have been arresting persons pretending to be members of the vigilante group but who were actually working for the insurgents to gather information for the sect. “Some Boko Haram members joined the Civilian JTF when it started. We discovered that some of them joined for the sole purpose of monitoring our activities and mode of operation, which would make it easier for them to attack us. “We worked with them because they gave us very useful intelligence, while we monitored their moves,” the source said adding, however, that “lot of them were picked up after we gathered enough intelligence on them,” the source said. The hero, Andulrahman, is currently being interrogated by the army in Maidugiri alongside the others arrested with him. Meanwhile closer to the Cameroun-Nigerian border, Chadian soldiers had earlier today freed a city they had captured earlier after the Nigerian government told them they could come back. President Goodluck Jonathan declared yesterday in Abuja that he was not desperate to serve. He spoke at the launch of the book , ‘The People’s Choice’, at the Presidential Villa. The book which chronicles his life is authored by Rev. Fr. Charles Imokhan. President Jonathan said: “Sometimes people ask me ‘Mr. President, from what we read and what we see, we see you are still smiling and unruffled.’ Yes, nothing will really ruffle me because I’m willing and ready to serve but I’m not desperate to serve. “And that is what keeps me going and if all of us who want to hold office from the least -a councillor or chairman of a council, a member of the state house of assembly or member of House of Representatives, Senate, or President; if all of us are always ready and willing to serve our people, but we are not desperate in that our mission, then of course Nigeria will be a better place for all of us.” He pledged to continue to empower Nigerians with quality education to enable them realise their potentials. “Because my story is a humble story and whenever I read write ups about me, especially my personal account from my birth to when I got into the limelight as deputy governor, most times the accounts are not very accurate,” he said of the book . “I think the only accurate account will be when I write when I leave office. But to some extent this particular account is reasonably close, the whole story has been captured except for minor details.” He expressed gratitude to the author for “ representing me to Nigerians.” The story of his life,he said, “is meant to encourage young people. I have to thank the people who bought the book for Almajiri schools because my dream is that one day a product of Almajiri school will stand here as a president of this country. “And that is why I have been very passionate about education and I tell people that I grew up from a very poor background. But luckily Nigeria is not a cast society, if I were to be an Indian, I probably wouldn’t even have dreamt of being a commissioner in my state. “Because in a cast society some people permanently belong to a lower class, but Nigeria is an open society, so you can move from the lowest level to the top but for you to do that one key thing is education and that is why I lay so much emphasis on education. “That was why when I came here I decided that every state must have a federal university.” Former military head of state,General Yakubu Gowon, who stood in for Alhaji Maitama Sule as chairman of the occasion, corrected an impression in the book concerning the Aburi Accord. He said: “I have seen that you have gone back in history in your research on Ojukwu and myself on the Aburi Accord. I was fascinated by that because I can assure you that meeting was to break the ice and to all of us allow the military leaders at the time to be able and to agree to be discussing our problems in Nigeria and to solve them. “ What happened to us at Aburi was that I couldn’t make it because I was unfortunately down with fever. And Ojukwu got back and made a statement and that wasn’t what we discussed and that was the beginning of the misunderstanding not because we agreed to work with Ojukwu. “Since you presented that we had a meeting I thought I should make that comment and to correct that.” he said Gen.Gowon urged Nigerians to vote according to their conscience in the forthcoming general elections. He said: “Vote your conscience but vote right. I hope all of you here will do the right thing and vote for the people’s choice.” The author, Rev. Fr. Charles Imokhan, said that he was encouraged to write the book because of the good work the president has been doing. The Chief Launcher at the event, Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, announced a donation of N25m and another N26m on behalf of his friends. He also announced a donation of N20m on behalf of the co-launcher, Chief Cletus Ibeto, who was said to be abroad.. Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State bought copies of the book for members of the state executive council for N20m and a copy each for all state governors for N10m. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adamu Muazu, bought copies of the book for N10m. Alhaji Hauwa Lawal bought copies for N10m; Mr. Tunde Ayeni bought for N10m; Mr. Kola Adesina bought for N12m and Charles Momoh bought for N5m while the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, bought on behalf of women for N5m. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim, bought 50 copies for members of the Federal Executive Council at a special rate of N15,000 per copy. At the occasion, hardback copies of the book were sold for N10,000 each while the paperback copies cost N7,000 each. The University of Port Harcourt has declined a Freedom of Information, FOI, request for the doctorate degree records of President Goodluck Jonathan. In a response to the Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, a Rivers State-based civil society organization, the university said a request for President Jonathan’s academic records did not fall within the provisions of the FOI law. “The Management of the University has carefully considered your request vis-a-vis the FOI Act,” the university stated in their letter dated 26th February, 2015, and signed by Eric Loveday Osuo Abonemi, the institution’s Legal Officer. “It is my instructions to inform you that your request does not come within the relevant provisions of the FOI Act for its practicability or for the University to provide such details as requested. “Details of the Ph.D Degree of President Goodluck Jonathan in the University of Port Harcourt cannot therefore be made available to you.” The Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law had filed an FOI request, three weeks ago, to the university seeking relevant details of Mr. Jonathan’s doctorate qualifications. The letter requested the following information relating to the president’s doctorate qualification, citing the provisions of Sections 2 and 4 of the FOI Act, 2011: 1. The title of the president’s doctorate dissertation 2. Year of registration as a doctorate candidate 3. Name of his doctorate supervisor(s) 4. Name of his external examiner(s) 5. Comments/reports of the external examiner of the dissertation/thesis 6. Photocopy of the dissertation/thesis 7. Date of graduation from the university The organization said it was willing to bear any cost the university might incur in making photocopies of the requested documents and for posting them. President Jonathan was admitted into the Department of Zoology (now renamed Animal and Environmental Biology), University of Port Harcourt, in 1977, where he graduated with Second Class Honours (Upper Division). In 1985, Mr. Jonathan obtained a Master of Science degree in Hydrobiology and Fisheries, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Zoology 10 years later. Both degrees were also from the University of Port Harcourt. Lately, Mr. Jonathan’s academic qualifications have come under increased scrutiny ahead of the forthcoming general elections. Critics have accused the president of failing to complete his doctorate programme. In a response to an enquiry by Punch Newspaper in January, the university dismissed such claims as having “neither legs nor grounds to stand on”. The university had also told any person or organization seeking additional information on Mr. Jonathan’s qualifications to contact the school authorities. “We have absolutely nothing to hide as an institution that has a statutory mandate to advance the frontiers of knowledge,” William Wodi, the university’s Deputy Registrar (Information), had told the newspaper. It is unclear why the university declined to release Mr. Jonathan’s academic qualifications to the civil society organization after giving that commitment. Jiti Ogunye, a Lagos-based lawyer, said the president’s academic records ought to be freely available in the university and not be “opaque or hidden”. “The FOI is applicable to the academic records of a public officer whose academic records are being requested by a Nigerian citizen or a nongovernmental organization duly registered in Nigeria with a view to promoting accountability and transparency in government,” Mr. Ogunye said. “The academic records of the president are not the medical records of the president in which case a medical officer can say the FOI is exempted, or the records between a lawyer and his client which are covered by the confidentiality rule.” WHAT THE FOI ACT SAYS According to Section 14(1) of the FOI ACT, subject to subsection (2), a public institution must deny an application for information that contains personal information and information exempted under this subsection includes: (a) files and personal information maintained with respect to clients, patients, residents, students, or other individuals receiving social, medical, educational, vocation, financial, supervisory or custodial care or services directly or indirectly from public institutions;… (2) A public institution shall disclose any information that contains personal information if – (a) the individual to whom it relates consents to the disclosure; or (b) the information is publicly available (3) Where disclosure of any information referred to in this section would be in the public interest, and if the public interest in the disclosure of such information clearly outweighs the protection of the privacy of the individual to whom such information relates, the public institution to whom request for disclosure is made shall disclose such information subject to Section 14(2) of this Act. Mr. Ogunye said that an institution might attempt to hide under Section 14(1)(a) to decline disclosure of information. “My argument is, this information is publicly available and ought to be disclosed. The president has said he obtained his Ph.D in that institution, so it’s publicly available,” Mr. Ogunye said. “So why will an institution refuse to disclose an information that is publicly available? The university has acted wrongly and can be compelled by the suit of the non-governmental organization concerned to disclose the information.” Source: http://saharareporters.com/2015/03/19/uniport-hides-details-president-jonathan%E2%80%99s-doctorate-degree

** APC To Drag President Jonathan To ICC Over Armed Pro-Jonathan Group's Invasion Of Lagos The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organization (APCPCO) announced today it will send a petition against President Goodluck Jonathan to the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague. The APCPCO said in a statement signed by Mallam Garba Shehu, its Director of Media and Publicity, that the petition follows the massive terror unleashed on the residents of Lagos by armed pro-Jonathan groups under the dubious cover of a faction of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) on the pretext of demanding the sack of Professor Attahiru Jega, National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Malam Garba noted that the machete-wielding and gun-bearing armed pro-Jonathan groups marched round the major streets of Lagos, harassing and intimidating motorists, chanting anti-Jega songs in a manner that gave them away as acting the carefully-prepared script for the truncation of the general elections. He observed that there was such disruption to the tranquility of the city that the citizens scampered for safety in all directions, describing it as a foretaste of the violence they plan to unleash on Election Day. "Our investigations have confirmed that Monday's (16th March, 2015) show was a dress-rehearsal for the main disruption planned for the general elections. Lagos, and the entire South West, being a stronghold of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been marked for massive disheveling commotion that would involve killings, maiming and kidnapping,” the spokesman said. "Our findings have further shown that the recent Nine Billion naira (N9 Billion) Pipeline surveillance contract to OPC and some militant groups in Southern Nigeria was the elixir for the latest crude impudence of the pro-Jonathan armed groups. Indeed, the contract award was indeed a subterfuge for the mobilization of these murderous militant groups for the destruction of lives and property to force the desire of the re-election of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan on the Nigerian people. "As an opposition APC, we are using this medium to serve Dr. Goodluck Jonathan the notice of our formal protest of this extreme show of impunity to the International Criminal Court (ICC). We are aware that Mrs Patience Jonathan is already on the watch list of ICC. The activities of this President and his wife as regards the elections are not patriotic and very unhelpful for entrenching democratic values in the nation.” He recalled the bombing of the APC secretariat and the shootings and disruption of the party's campaign rally in Okirika in Rivers State, where the First Lady hails from, noting that those events met with muted silence from President Jonathan. "Whereas the Police authorities had denied the opposition party its legitimate and democratic rights to organise one million person march for General Buhari in Kano it was, however, quick to approve that in Lagos, providing security to the pro-Jonathan armed groups while they unleashed mayhem on citizens in Lagos on Monday, a day that inhabitants of the city consider the most important of the week. He stressed that the APC was not ready to cower to the intimidation of Jonathan ahead of the general elections. “We believe Nigerians shall speak eloquently on 28th March, 2015 and this brutality on the psyche of the Nigerian people shall cease." The Nigerian military has found no clues of more than 200 school girls abducted nearly a year ago by Boko Haram, despite retaking several territories from the insurgent group, Army Chief, Kenneth Minimah, has said. Mr. Minimah said “mop up” operations in areas recaptured from Boko Haram have not yielded any signs as to whether the abducted Chibok girls were kept there before being moved. “In all the liberated areas we have, we have also made enquiries but the truth is when the terrorists are running away they also run with their families,” he said. “And those we have come in contact have not made any comments suggesting that Chibok girls were there and taken away. “But we are optimistic that as the war gets closer, the territory is becoming elusive to them (terrorists) and we will get further details on that,” Mr. Minimah said Tuesday after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan and the head of Nigeria’s electoral commission. The over 200 girls were kidnapped from their hostels at the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State on April 14 2014. Mr. Minimah also denied that Nigeria hired mercenaries to fight Boko Haram. He said there are only military advisers and instructors meant to maintain the newly-acquired security equipment. “Whenever you have new equipment, the equipment come with contract and the contract include maintenance and the technicians that come with them are those that we hire,” he said. On the forthcoming elections, the Army chief said only the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, can decide whether elections will go ahead in the recaptured territories in the North East. But he warned that while the towns are free of terrorists, there is little presence of government and structure of governance there. Mr. Minimah said at the meeting with the president, which lasted over five hours, the council passed a vote of confidence on the military following the successful anti-terrorism operations in the North East with only three local governments in Borno state remaining to be liberated from the clutches of Boko Haram. “Council reviewed the North East operations particularly in the last three weeks and Council renewed its confidence in the Nigerian Armed Forces and commended them too,” Mr. Minimah said. “You know Yobe and Adamawa states have been liberated completely and we look forward to the reinstatement of structures of government and governance. “I am also sure you know that in Borno state out of the 27 local government we have three local governments remaining, Abadam, Kalabaldi and Gwoza and we optimistic that with time we will liberate those local governments. “I am not competent to speak on the elections. INEC is still there. INEC has to re-access the situation and evaluate because the areas have been liberated. “But I can also tell you that not all structures of governance have been reinstated and they will need to be reinstated so that citizens can go back to their areas and it is then I think they can execute their rights as voters. How soon? I don’t know,” he said. Asked if the military operations could be concluded before March 28, Mr. Minimah said, “It is our wish and we pray God gives that to us, but war is war. War sometimes is not fought on some platforms of permutations.” The INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, who was part of the meeting and had briefed the council on the preparedness of the commission for the polls, did not comment on the outcome of the meeting. He merely told journalists that the meeting “went well”. How is it possible for Nigeria Government to reduce electricity tariff when they told us the electricity company has been privatized?
|
Actually, I came across this on Facebook page, posted by Prince Adelekan Adeneye Ogbara. There are some of the points raised that are true, though not all. 1. Generator importation will stop.(They are the main dealers) 2. He will destroy their hard drug business. 3. He will tame the Robbers (80% of armed robbers in Nigeria are igbos) 4. There won't be breathing space for kidnappers 5. Baby factories will stop. 6. Fraud stars will be jailed. 7. Their Fake product won't sell anymore. 8. No space for oil bunkers 9. He will kill Corruption 10. He will revive Nigeria's Image from bad to Good. They don't want it to happen because of their biafra agenda. They claim to like GEJ more than his south south kinsmen. Criminals. If you know of reasons why North and Southwest don't want Jonathan, you may list your point. I believe with this, we can be more honest to each other and adjust to our wrong doings. Please no tribal attack, if you have reason to attack/commend any of the listed point, you are free to do so. As for me, I agreed with the bolded post. |
Neither President Goodluck Jonathan nor his major challenger in this month’s presidential elections, Muhammadu Buhari, can make Nigeria better unless the foundation of the country is restructured, the leader of the Odua Peoples Congress, Gani Adams, has said. Mr. Adams, who spoke on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said the constitution upon which Nigeria is governed is defective and should be changed. “When we are looking for original change in Nigeria, it’s not about the individual or personality,” he said at the Lisabi Day Celebration in Abeokuta. “It’s about the constitution, the system, the institution. You can only change the system through a genuine constitution by the people.” “The constitution given to us in 1999, no millions of Buhari can move this country forward without a constitutional change; no millions of Jonathan can move it forward, if you don’t change the constitution. “If you don’t practise true federalism according to the way it should be practised like in the United States, Nigeria cannot move forward.” Mr. Adams, who supports Mr. Jonathan’s re-election bid, added that “to move this country forward for a change, we must change the constitution first. “We must change the structure and we must re-orientate our people. But for you to re-orientate our people, the document for running the country, the constitution, must change because when you have a bad book to run the country, there is no way the orientation and psyche of the people can change.” While mentioning some of the arrangements he considers defective in the Nigerian structure, Mr. Adams said, “You can imagine, the individual state cannot control their own security, the order must come from Abuja; the states cannot control their own electricity. “You can imagine, cases have to be decided finally by the Supreme Court in Abuja. These are some of the things we corrected in the recent National Conference that ended last year. “About 633 recommendations were passed to the government and we categorized them in three sectors–the Judiciary, the Legislature and the Executive – so that Nigeria can move forward. There is a limit to which we can blame Jonathan.” Defending his call for practise of true federalism, Mr. Adams said if Borno State had its own state police, the Boko Haram crisis would not have gotten out of hand as the state government would have checkmated the insurgents before calling on the federal police. “But in a situation where you are expecting orders from Abuja, only one structure of police with a population of 200 million people and 243 ethnic nationalities, it will be extremely difficult,” he said. “Every nationality will play the game in the interest of his ethnic nationality in the system.” The leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group also stated his reason for supporting Mr. Jonathan’s re-election bid. “The issue of Jonathan is not much problem,” he said. ” Although he has his own shortcoming, based on the issue of the Chibok girls and others, security challenges, but this man has tried his own best and this man has promised that he would implement the outcome of the National Conference. Speaking on his opposition to Mr. Buhari’s candidature, Mr. Adams said “the problem I have with Buhari is that he was one of the people who criticised that conference when we were being nominated as delegates. And my brother, (Bola) Tinubu was the one that said that it’s a diversionary tactics. Buhari does not believe in the progressive ways.” Mr. Adams spoke further on his disagreement with former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, who is a leader of Mr. Buhari’s All Progressives Congress. “Tinubu was one of the people we learnt true federalism from. I learnt true federalism from Tinubu. We saw him as a hero 12 years ago but a sudden change in his ideology gave me a serious thought,” he said. “I don’t have any serious issue about them because I’m not a government official but notwithstanding I have the right to defend my own future. I’m leading an organization of millions of people and I will not lead them the wrong way. “If it is the wish of President Jonathan to implement the outcome of the National Conference, let him be the president for a second term. That’s our position. That’s the position of OPC, Gani Adams, Fasehun. That’s the position of Afenifere. That’s the position of the Yoruba Council of Elders, that’s the position of many self-determination groups. “Yet some civil society groups have kept quiet on these issues. So, we need to move this country forward on the basis of structure and not about saying Buhari will come to perform miracle. When Buhari was in power, it was Buhari/Idiagbon government, not only Buhari. Idiagbon did much of the job in government. Buhari was just the administrator. Idiagbon was the master-strategist of that government.” On the teenage girls kidnapped last April from their school in Chibok, Borno State, the OPC leader said he believed the girls were no more on Nigeria soil, and therefore called on Federal Government to beam its search on the neighbouring countries of Chad and Niger “You are talking of Chibok girls. I believe those girls are not in Nigeria. If they were, they could have got them back. I believe the government should search beyond Nigeria. They should search Niger and Chad. We should look beyond Nigeria. 230 girls within age range of 15 years and you say they are still within our territory. It’s not easy with the kind of security network we have in this country.” Speaking further on how he believes Nigeria is being governed, Mr. Adams said, “Nigeria has got to a stage that our system is over-rotten. We have got to a stage that we are recycling some families in government since the 60s and we are recycling some Mafia. “When we are looking for original change in Nigeria, it’s not about the individual or personality.” On Nigeria’s various culture, Mr. Adams said government was not doing enough to promote it; but explained that since the government could not do it alone, there should be a synergy between the government and private organizations. “In the whole world, it’s not only government that promotes culture or sustain identity. Nigeria is a complex nation; we have about 242 ethnic nationalities. So, every nationality has to take its destiny in its own hands. You must not depend on the government. “If you depend on the government, it will be confused. Which one should we promote amongst the others and there is no culture that is inferior. So, it’s a duty and responsibility for individual ethnic nationalities to make sure they promote their culture. When it’s becoming popular, the government, whether state or federal will want to be part of it. “Outside the shores of Nigeria, when a good thing comes from your compound though it doesn’t belong to your family, you’ll tell outsiders that this is part of my family. But in a situation where you don’t package it well, you don’t organize it well, you don’t inform people about the uniqueness and goodness of it, definitely they will not align with it. Even if we are doing anything, a person who does not have knowledge of religion will continue to demonize it.” Source: http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/178508-neither-jonathan-nor-buhari-can-make-nigeria-better-gani-adams.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
There was a minor fire outbreak at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) institute in Abuja on Saturday night, March 14, 2015. No harm was done as the fire was swiftly contained, Punch reports. Confirming the incident, the Chief Press Secretary to the chairman of the commission, Mr. Kayode Idowu, said no electoral material was affected by the fire. Recall that some protesting youths under the aegis of Middle Belt Concerned Youths (MBCY), shut down the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. They asked for the immediate resignation or sack of INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, over his insistence on the use of card readers for the general elections. joeyfire:What exactly did they started? Shun that thing and grow up |
SeverusSnape:Oracle still on the ground....... |
kestolove95:Exactly what i was complaining about. Must you attack anyone for having different political ideas from you.. Shun and grow up |
I just keep on wondering why some people take some certain things too serious. Having different political ideas doesn't make us an enemy. We all have one common goal which is the development of our great nation. I have so many friends that we have different political ideas, we are still great and talk about common things affecting us. The politicians you are dieing for doesn't know you exist, they are all the same. You do not have to condemn a governor who has performed well just because you are in different party, you do not have to praise a governor who hasn't performed anything just because you are in the same party. If we all support our football team whenever they are playing, they what stop us from uniting together apart from all this tribalistic, political, ethnic differences Together, we can make our country great. God bless Nigeria |

Patience Jonathan, the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, insisted that GEJ would remain the country leader for 8 years. Punch reports that the First Lady of Nigeria made her position known on March 14, Saturday, during the Peoples Democratic Party women rally held in Benin, Edo state. Dame Patience, who was accompanied by the PDP national and state leaders, arrived at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, venue of the rally, at about 1.30pm. The event was marked by an unfortunate situation as the two purportedly aggrieved youths from the PDP tore down some banners with the image of the president’s wife. The two where removed from the venue by the local security. Addressing women, Mrs Jonathan explained why her husband must stay in the office for another term. She was quoted as saying by The Nation: “Everybody is staying there for eight years. Now it’s our turn. We must complete our eight years. It is a constitution of this country. We will complete our two tenure and hand over. “I am a peaceful person and I preach peace anywhere I go. They are looking for fight, they are looking for war. They are troublesome people. That is why they went and take expired drugs. “Now they are crying. They are the people stoning people and nobody talk. They are dragging stadium but me I am ready to go to the street and do my campaign. “The president is building schools. That is why in the whole federation when he came in, he built universities in every state. He built federal universities so that our children should go and learn. “Goodluck has built uncountable hospitals, primary health centres. He equipped primary health centres, trained doctors and nurses. “In Edo State, the federal university has been rehabilitated and well equipped for us. He gave our sons scholarships. Mr. President is ready to pay if you don’t have money to pay for your children. “They were there years back. They have nothing to offer. Ask them what they offered to us when they were there. They were in Aso Rock before, what did they forget in Aso Rock they want to go and take. Days are gone when old people will continue to dominate us.” It should be noted that Dame Patience, tenderly called “Mama Peace” by her admirers, has been recently involved in a series of controversies over her scandalous quotes directed at the opposition. She was criticized over trying to incite violence in the country ahead of the general elections. To which the president’s wife responded that she is “a woman of peace” who hates violence. Though I support the change but Must APC reacts to anything that Mr president does/did?. They should rather focus on how to win masses heart in order to vote for them. #IHaveDecided |
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of taking political advantage of calamities that have befallen Nigeria under his watch, saying giving 5 million Naira to each family that lost a relative in the Immigration recruitment exercise after one year is not only belated but aimed at currying votes. In a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party wondered why it took the President all of one year to act on the promise he made to the families, adding that but for the forthcoming elections, the President would have simply ignored the families, in his usual style. ”The truth is that this President was forced to act because of the elections. Otherwise, why has it taken one year for the President to redeem his promise to the bereaved families? Why has his Administration not sanctioned those who sent innocent job seekers to their early graves after extorting them? Why is the Interior Minister, Mr Abba Moro, who presided over the deaths, still in office, virtually dancing on the graves of those innocent youths? ”Sunday, March 15th, will mark one year since those vibrant youths were lured to their deaths by a callous federal government that failed them in all ramifications, including the security of their lives and the assurance of their welfare, the raison d’etre of any government. It is therefore utterly reprehensible, immoral and wicked for the same administration to seek to make political gains out of the needless tragedy,” it said. APC said President Jonathan, in his desperation for re-election, has also sought to take political advantage of other tragedies, including the Buni Yadi massacre of school children and the abduction of Chibok girls. ”After refusing to even visit the families of those school children in Buni Yadi and Chibok, the President suddenly woke up and started sending delegations to meet with them, all this because he needs votes. As a parent himself, how will the President feel if he had been so treated? Why must the President put his re-election over and above everything else, including the welfare and security of Nigerians? Is there no limit to desperation,” the party queried. It said Nigerians are keenly aware of the fact that this President has suddenly woken up from his deep slumber and become artificially hyperactive, making repeated visits to regions that he had neglected in the past six years and doling out hard currencies even at a time the Naira was taking a beating, all for election purposes. ”No one is fooled by the antics of a desperate President, and in the fullness of time, Nigerians will show President Jonathan and his cohorts that they are not impressed by his pretend governance,” APC said.
