SaharaReporters has learned that two separate bomb blasts occurred near the University of Jos along Bauchi Road in Jos, Plateau State. The number of fatalities and injuries are not known at this time. A source told SaharaReporters that the first blast occurred in front of the gate of the University of Jos near the College of Forestry, where the students are writing exams. The second blast was located in the second largest park in Jos, Central Motor Park which is also near a military checkpoint, according to this same source. The blasts were about 200 meters apart and are said to have occurred just before 5pm. It is also notable that there was a blast last year on this same stretch of road. More details will be reported once made available. Source: http://saharareporters.com/2015/02/26/two-bomb-blasts-jos-near-university |

Diezani Alison-Madueke, minister of petroleum resources, says she is not opposed to the release of the full forensic audit report on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). In an interview with Financial Times of London, she, however, added that the “rabid” opposition may find some minute detail to raise concern even though she has nothing to fear. Only highlights of the audit, carried out by PwC, have been released to the public so far, with no indications that $20billion is missing. Rather, the report said only $1.48billion was yet to be remitted to the national coffers by the corporation, according to the excerpts. But the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded that the entire report be made public. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), had alleged that the NNPC illegally withheld $20bn from government coffers between January 2012 and July 2013. Alison-Madueke told FT that both she and President Goodluck Jonathan would not oppose publication of the report. She said there were “pros and cons” to publishing the full findings, saying the “rabid opposition” might “find all sorts of minute detail to create concern”. The Fear of Buhari is the beginning of wisdom.. Buhariphobia Vote for change! Vote Buhari/osinbajo (APC) |
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for Adamawa South Senatorial District, Silas Zwingina, has claimed that the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari, intends to send public office holders to jail if he emerges president. Mr. Zwingina, therefore, urged his party members to work hard to ensure that Mr. Buhari fails in his bid to become president. Speaking in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, Mr. Zwingina said “we have to stop Buhari and his plan to build more prisons to jail politicians. “You know Buhari, he will send us to jail for between 200 to 300 years and it is the lucky ones among us that will get 50 years. “As you know, there is no way you will hold office in Nigeria and go scot free if the authorities want to get you. “Buhari is determined to send people to jail and even APC governors are not comfortable with him and that’s why many of them are not following his campaign team,” Mr. Zwingina alleged. He said President Goodluck Jonathan is better than Mr. Buhari and needs to be returned to continue his transformation agenda. “Let me tell you, that Jonathan is 1,000 times better than Buhari and that’s why people resolved to vote for our candidate, President Jonathan,” he said. He also urged the people to elect the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Nuhu Ribadu as Governor and vote all other PDP candidates in the state. In his remarks, Mr. Ribadu pleaded for the unity of PDP in the state if it must emerged victorious. “If you vote me, I promise you that I will not betray you. I met just recently with Mr. President and he showed concern over the level of underdevelopment in Adamawa with the promise that Adamawa is among the states he will accord priority in terms of federal projects. “In 2011 election, we gave the president 65 per cent and I promised him that this time around we will give him 80 per cent,” Mr. Ribadu said. abacusCm wrote; “I have it on a strong ground that there is a plan to capture Shekau before the week to elections. And the captured Shekau who is currently undergoing training on what to say and do will mention Buhari as one of their core sponsors. The target according to the source is to discourage Southern voters and the Northern Christians (from liking Buhari). The confession is alleged to be so perfectly planned that Buhari may even be arrested and even those who love him may think twice (about his sincerity). The sum of 4.5 billion Naira is purportedly budgeted. The purpose of this budget I am told is for bribing some Northern clerics so when the time comes, they will pacify their followers (to reject Buhari as he is BoKo Haram sponsor). There will purportedly be audio of phone calls (between Buhari and the Boko Haram leaders). Buhari will not be able to sue the government since it will be an arranged confession of a captured terrorist. Now, I am not saying this (leak) is true. But knowing how desperate these PDP people are, they can do just anything to get Buhari out of the way. Honestly, I am deeply, deeply, deeply, worried. In fact, I am troubled. Kindly share this and let the world know about this evil machination of the PDP before it is too late. Kindly do it. The person who gave me this information is an Intelligence officer with the Army. He looks worried too.” May God save Nigeria and Nigerians. Amen. Let us vote out the clueless one.. We are tired of vampire regime Vote for change! Vote Buhari/Osinbajo (APC) Note: There is no smoke without fire, We read about the election postponement late last year but we didn't take it serious |

WHEN a Greek sponge diver called Elias Stadiatos discovered the wreck of a cargo ship off the tiny island of Antikythera in 1900, it was the statues lying on the seabed that made the greatest impression on him. He returned to the surface, removed his helmet, and gabbled that he had found a heap of dead, naked women. The ship's cargo of luxury goods also included jewellery, pottery, fine furniture, wine and bronzes dating back to the first century BC. But the most important finds proved to be a few green, corroded lumps—the last remnants of an elaborate mechanical device. The Antikythera mechanism, as it is now known, was originally housed in a wooden box about the size of a shoebox, with dials on the outside and a complex assembly of bronze gear wheels within. X-ray photographs of the fragments, in which around 30 separate gears can be distinguished, led the late Derek Price, a science historian at Yale University, to conclude that the device was an astronomical computer capable of predicting the positions of the sun and moon in the zodiac on any given date. A new analysis, though, suggests that the device was cleverer than Price thought, and reinforces the evidence for his theory of an ancient Greek tradition of complex mechanical technology. Michael Wright, the curator of mechanical engineering at the Science Museum in London, has based his new analysis on detailed X-rays of the mechanism using a technique called linear tomography. This involves moving an X-ray source, the film and the object being investigated relative to one another, so that only features in a particular plane come into focus. Analysis of the resulting images, carried out in conjunction with Allan Bromley, a computer scientist at Sydney University, found the exact position of each gear, and suggested that Price was wrong in several respects. |
A large number of the Islamic Terror group, Boko Haram have drowned in the Lake Chad as they fled the heavy bombardment by Nigerian Air force heralding the advance of Nigerian troops on mission to flush them out of Baga, the Nigerian defence headquarters has said. Not even the strategy of mining over 1500 spots with land mines on the routes leading to the town could save the terrorists from the aggressive move of advancing troops,” the Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade, a Major General, said in a statement. He added, “All the landmines were skillfully cleared one after the other. Eventually, the resistance of the terrorists collapsed and the land forces finally stormed the town in the early hours of Friday. “Many of the terrorists died while an unknown but substantial number of them fled with various degrees of injury, in the series of encounter along the routes of advance as troops headed for Baga. The Nigerian army is finally engaging Boko Haram at Bama in Borno state, southeast of the capital. After severally ravaging Bama, Boko Haram seized the town of a population estimated between 500,000-900,000 last September. According to records from IDP’s more than 10,000 civilians have been killed in a steady pogrom since Boko Haram captured Bama, sending the local chief fleeing while installing their Chadian emir. The people of the town are anxiously waiting to hear of its liberation. The Jonathan administration finally decided to address Boko Haram after it saw an election defeat imminent; since then the Nigerian army has been sent to liberate captured towns and villages that have remained under Boko Haram control for months to years. Numerous major political figures from the Southwest region on Thursday were conspicuously absent from a “post-national conference summit” hosted by Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State at the Royale Park Lane Hotel in Akure, the state capital. The summit, with the theme “The National Conference, 2015 Elections and the Yoruba Nation”, was ostensibly aimed at raising awareness among the Yoruba about the outcome of the 2014 National conference. The event was attended mostly by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including leaders of a faction of the Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, which recently endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan. The participants included political office holders from the southwest states of Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun and Lagos states. But prominent traditional rulers and religious leaders from the region were absent at the summit. The chairman of the summit and an Afenifere leader, Ayo Adebanjo, observed that the gathering was almost exclusively of PDP members and leaders. Mr. Adebanjo noted that the summit, if truly convened for its stated aim, should have attracted prominent personalities and voices from the southwest. He expressed sadness that no key traditional ruler or religious leader attended the summit. He said that the event lacked significance, being mostly attended by PDP members and their allies. “My observation here is that the summit seems to be dominated by the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” Mr. Adebanjo stated, remarking the presence of the party’s candidates for elective offices. “The summit should be more important than Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) affairs. If you are convening something like this in future give the impression that we are doing it on non-partisan basis and in a fair manner cut across board,” he said. Also speaking, the chairman of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), Fredrick Faseun, said his party adopted the PDP presidential candidate, Mr. Goodluck Jonathan, because of the UPN’s belief that the incumbent president would implement the recommendations of the National Conference. He described Mr. Jonathan as the only “good” thing in Nigeria. “I am not in President Jonathan’s party but I chose to adopt him for my own political platform because I feel he’s the only good thing available to Nigeria now,” Mr. Faseun said. The coordinator of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC), Gani Adams, echoed Mr. Adebanjo’s sentiment that the summit should have included Yoruba political figures from opposition parties if the event was truly meant to discuss the way forward for the southwest. “We need a platform to sensitize Nigerians about who will implement the outcome of the National Conference,” he said, adding that the meeting should not be a gathering of the PDP. Earlier, Governor Mimiko, the convener of the summit, said the mission of the event was to gather Yoruba leaders from the southwest to deliberate on the importance of the National Conference by endorsing President Goodluck Jonathan for the second term for the conference’s quick implementation. “Convening the 2014 National Conference was indeed a historic assignment that we are proud of. And as a people, we must do everything possible to ensure that the confab recommendations get implemented. “The idea of President Goodluck Jonathan allowing Nigerians to discuss is therefore a right step in the right direction. The platform afforded Nigerians the opportunity to dialogue and, through consensus, to evolve a workable agreement that is geared towards the self-expression of its socially and culturally diverse peoples within a nation-state that reflects their desires,” said the governor. He added: “Indeed, everybody has something in the confab report that contained over 600 resolutions which 492 people passed by consensus—that is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria. Therefore, it is clearly a different kind of report.” Governor Mimiko said the confab recommendations, when implemented, would “create room for each state to have its own constitution, its own police force, its own prison service, can create its own local governments, can build its own airports, seaports and railways and, in addition, in the economic domain, solid minerals that had been the exclusive preserve of the Federal government since Independence, have now been brought to the concurrent list. States can now create employment and develop at their own pace,” adding that the report would open up the political space. According to the convener, “the challenge remains what is to be done to safeguard the confab report and ensure its implementation. Thus, this one-day summit that is designed to evaluate the 2014 National Conference has become necessary so as to contribute to the way and manner the confab recommendations get translated to concrete realities. “Specifically, we want to x-ray the gains of the Yoruba nation from the 2014 National Conference and design optional frameworks for implementation of the confab recommendations with an eye on Yoruba interests.” In addition to the numerous Yoruba leaders in opposition parties who shunned the summit, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti was also absent. Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State has said the reason his aide, Abdullahi Mohammed, tore his Peoples Democratic Party membership card was because he turned down Mr. Mohammed’s request of N150 million. Mr. Mohammed on Tuesday publicly tore his membership card in the state capital, Gombe, citing dissatisfaction with the manner the country was being run as his reason. He specifically alleged that only a few of the large population of Nigeria were benefiting from the nation’s finances. His action came just days after former President Olusegun Obasanjo had publicly destroyed his own PDP membership card, over his row with the party. Speaking through his media aide, Junaidu Abubakar, on Friday, Mr. Dankwambo said Mr. Mohammed had approached him with an “outrageous request of N150m to solve a mortgage problem which was not granted”. Mr. Abubakar said the governor had come to the rescue of Mr. Mohammed on several occasions, but that the request for N150 million would simply not be granted because the governor explained that N150 million can do a lot to the lives of the three million people in the state. He said it would be wrong to give just one person N150 million in a state grappling with challenges. The governor’s spokesperson added that Mr. Dankwambo would never join issues with any of his aides, but that Mr. Mohammed decided to lie over his decision, saying he did it for the masses. “It is simply a case of lack of conscience on the former security assistant because he had earlier left the administration to run for a seat in the state assembly, after he lost he came back and the governor magnanimously re-appointed him,” Mr. Abubakar said. “Governor Dankwambo respects the fact that individuals have a right to associate with anyone, especially in a democracy, but that does not give one the right to lie over it and malign others,” he said. Mr. Abubakar added that the governor appointed Mr. Mohammed as an assistant on security matters despite having a retired commissioner of police and an AIG as advisers on security because he is at the forefront of the fight against insurgents who keep on disturbing the peace in the state. “Despite the activities of insurgents, Gombe is the only state in the north east where non indigenes are not relocating in numbers. “This is due to the serious manner in which the governor is personally leading the charge to the maintenance of peace in the state. Most of the wealthy individuals in Gombe today are those engaged in building materials and other businesses and most of them are from the South East, none is even thinking of going anywhere, Gombe is home to them,” he said. The spokesperson of the governor said Mr. Dankwambo cannot go about giving out money to individuals, otherwise he would not have achieved what he achieved in the last three years. He said the governor had built 158 roads of 128km in the whole of Gombe state and added that 120 new primary and secondary schools were also constructed while the sum of N2 billion was disbursed as soft loan to small-scale businesses in the state. The spokesperson said the governor also established a microfinance bank in all the local governments with a capital of N500 million to aide local businesses. “Most importantly, he governor has rehabilitated over 30,000 youth who were used as political thugs in the past, as we speak, all of them have been absorbed into the state civil service and they are contributing meaningfully to various sectors in the state,” he said. I made no such request When contacted, Mr. Mohammed denied that he requested for any money from the governor. “It is not possible for an individual to make such an outrageous demand on a governor,” he said. He also said the genesis of his problem with the PDP in the state started when the party asked some of its members running for election to step down and made certain promises. None of those promises were eventually fulfilled. He said he PDP has no respect even for its own rules. He added that his major reason for running for office as a lawmaker was to make sure that the right things are done in the security structure of the state. He said as an assistant to the governor on security, he had very limited powers to use his experience for the good of the state, hence his decision to run. Mr. Mohammed said Mr. Dankwambo appointed 10 of them as his security advisory team, but made them redundant. “We were never allowed to do anything, we have never sat down with the governor for more than ten minutes, all repeated efforts to sit with him and discuss the issue of security failed. “Rather, some persons who have no knowledge at all of security matters were the ones advising the governor,” he said. Mr. Mohammed also confirmed that he has joined the opposition All Progressives Congress in the state. He said he joined the APC because by its congress, it showed what a disciplined party should be. “Look at the two presidential primaries of the APC and the PDP, it would be clear to every serious politician which party has respect for its rules and promote internal democracy. “It is clear that the kind of politics I want to play, that has respect for human dignity and development is not in the PDP and that is why I left, nothing more,” he said.
