**removes Gen I. Ibrahim, as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division. The Nigerian Army has announced the redeployment of General I. Ibrahim, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Maiduguri. The deployment of some newly acquired Russian attack helicopters by the military to engage the Boko Haram Islamic militants in their hide outs in the North East started 3 days ago. Though details of the GOC’s redeployment is still sketchy some sources have attributed it to the recent visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to Maiduguri and the resolve to remove every impediment to winning the war against Boko Haram. General Ibrahim who has spent only nine months in the position replaced Major-General Ahmadu Mohammed who was also removed May 15, 2014 after an insurrection by military officers deployed from the division to fight the sect. Recall that the president on Thursday undertook a surprise visit to Maiduguri on the occasion of Nigeria’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day to meet with officers and men of the Armed Forces currently in the frontline of the war against terrorism and insurgency in the country. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to clear the air on issues surrounding his health. Femi Fani-Kayode, the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, made the call at a news conference on Sunday in Abuja. Mr. Fani-Kayode said the call had become necessary since the health and certificate of Mr. Buhari had become major issues of discussion in the country. He said the request was a standard practice across the world, adding that the PDP was not in any way antagonising Mr. Buhari by it. The former aviation minister maintained that the PDP was not making any allegation or accession, but that it was only asking Gen. Buhari to clear the air on issues concerning his health which had been under discussion for some time now. “We are not impressed by the fact that his campaign organisation and his party have tried to speak for him on this matter,” the spokesperson said in reference to statements by the APC that Mr. Buhari was hale and hearty. “We would prefer that General Buhari himself clears the air and tells Nigerians himself that he is not mortally ill. “The rumour that he is suffering from prostate cancer is exceptionally worrying and it is incumbent upon each and every one of us to pray for him if this rumour is true,” Mr. Fani-Kayode said. He said that it was vital that a full disclosure of the state of Mr. Buhari`s health was made known to the people, especially in the face of the country`s recent history; a reference to the health of late President Umaru Yar’Adua who died in office in 2010. Mr. Fani-Kayode said that Nigerians deserved to know the truth before they would make their choice about who they wanted to vote for as their President, come February 14. He said that the days of hiding things like a presidential candidate`s health status from the Nigerian public was long over, and therefore urged General Buhari to acknowledge this fact. “In this day and age, nothing ought to be swept under the carpet. “We are therefore constrained to urge him to prove to Nigerians that he is really as fit as a fiddle by taking a brisk walk,’’ he said. Mr. Fani-Kayode said Mr. Buhari could do this by jogging around the perimeter of the stadium before any of his rallies. He said this would go a long way in allaying the fears of many Nigerians and prove that the APC presidential candidate was fit, contrary to speculations about his health. Popular Nollywood actor, Muna Obiekwe has passed away after a battle with Kidney failure. The actor passed away in the afternoon of Sunday, January 18, 2015 in a hospital in Festac, Lagos. Obiekwe had been battling with kidney disease for a long time which he reportedly kept secret from his colleagues in the Nigerian entertainment industry. His condition deteriorated in recent times, which eventually led to his death. A reliable source who spoke said Obiekwe was rushed to the hospital on Sunday morning after he was found vomiting at home. Unfortunately he lost the battle and passed away in the hospital. This is a very sad loss for Nollywood. May his soul rest in peace

With the crazy attacks both online and at various places, I keep on wondering why Nigerians want to kill themselves on all this politicians. What exactly have we benefited from them? Though not a bad idea to support someone but I do not think it has to get to the extent of killing each other or destroying properties. Whether PDP or APC, we are all Nigeria. They( GEJ AND GMB) do not even know you exist, if you kill yourself for them, you rot in hell. Use your brain and never let your brain use you. A word is enough for a wise. |
Nigeria’s Excess Crude Account, the equivalent of the Sovereign Wealth Fund, has plunged to $2.45 billion as oil prices continue to fall. The balance in the dollar component of the excess crude oil revenue account depleted to about $2.45 billion in December 2014. The account, which stood at about $4.11billion in October, dropped to about $3.11billion in November 2014. Though there was a controversy of a missing $1billion from the account during the month, the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said the money was used for the payment of part of the outstanding debt to petroleum products marketers. The Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda, at the end of the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, FAAC, meeting in Abuja on Friday, said the balance in the account for December 2014 stood at about $2.45 billion. Details of the balance of the account released at the end of the FAAC meeting showed that the transfer to the account as a result of foreign exchange gain dropped from N1.767 billion to about N665 million. The Accountant General of the Federation, AGF, Jonah Otunla, said in a statement at the end of the meeting that the balance in the account dropped from about $3.11 billion to $2.45 billion in December. The new balance in the account followed the withdrawal of the equivalent of N15.631 billion to augment the shortfall in allocation available for distribution to the three tiers of government for the month. The expected revenue proposed in the 2014 approved budget for December was N688.938 billion. But following the continued decline in global oil prices at the international market since the beginning of the year, there was a decline in oil revenue in the Federation Account and a shortfall in the monthly allocation available for distribution. In December, about N381.58billion realized as oil revenue for the month was lower by N36.032 billion from the expected revenue of N417.612 billion proposed in the 2014 budget. Similarly, non-oil revenue, which stood at about N107.796 billion was lower by N57.927 billion from about N185.323 billion proposed in the budget. The minister said the withdrawal of N15.631 billion from the ECA was to augment the difference of N92.9 billion between total allocation realized for the month (N490.031billion) and about N582.935 billion proposed in the budget. How is it possible for someone to contest for a presidential election for 3 times without having a certificate? Is this political or INEC is just clueless? |
emiye:I feel you bro. What stop the moderator from putting this on fp? Truth is bitter in my country. |
Kakpos:You mean his supporter are now vampire? |
Emiye posted this in one of the thread; 1. 400,000 barrels of oil stolen daily, yet pipeline protection contracts running in to billions of Naira in the hands of terrorists/militants 2. increased petrol price from 65-97naira in a period of oil boom over 110usd/barrel consistently for years, 3. power supply has not seen any worthwhile improvement 5 years down the line, it is still the same 4,000mw bullshittt+- , i have been hearing since the Obj regime . I just saw a protest on Channelstv of Benin youths destroying properties of the distribution company in care of the region due to poor power supply to their area 4. Thrillions used in paying fraudulent kerosene subsidy annually, that same amount can build four (4.) or more large scale refineries and there would be change. Yet kerosene sold at over N120 to the populace instead of the claimed N50. Refined petroleum products still imported to the detriment of the country's foreign exchange. 5 Excess crude oil account wiped out, external debt profile rising again after debt relief of 2005, and OBJ's pay off of debt. Foreign reserve account depleting. 6. Several local govts taken over by BH, and BH obviously is enlarging its coast, over 2,000 killed in Baga days ago, yet the man does not appear bothered. Military men at warfront claims military weapons are inadequate and not up to date. 7. Failed to diversify the economy after 5 years, but simply lip service, 70% of the budget still on recurrent expenditure in a developing country that needs lots of physical infrastructures . 8. No concrete plan for grand scale unemployment that is a ticking time bomb, but minimalist approach like "youwin" that provides 1,000 jobs annually in a country with hundreds of million unemployed youth. |
I am not a card carrying member of the APC or PDP, and I do not have a vote in this election cycle. I was also not paid to write this and I am also sure this article will not generate a nationwide traction to determine where the pendulum swings in the February elections. The only motivation is that I take pride in the unity and development of Nigeria and I am nothing sitting on the fence. In addition to the aforementioned, my father was one the three young men executed by General M Buhari (rtd), the presidential candidate of the APC with a retroactive law some 30years ago. Yet, I HOPE. The forthcoming February Presidential election is different from all other elections we have seen since the advent of democracy in 1999. The Presidential election has never been aggressively contested, but that has changed in this cycle, thanks in large part to the leaders that formed the APC and a more aware electorate. The electioneering process has not changed much, with the top two political parties relying solely on politicians. The caliber of politician that makes up the Presidential campaign council, for me, is often an indication of how the candidate governs once (s) he becomes President. Mediocre politicians are given the nod to occupy and lead sensitive political and public institutions ahead of their colleagues who understand and know what it takes to govern and deliver social goods to the larger populace. This traditional way of campaigning and electioneering is partly responsible for the failure we have witnessed in the last 12yrs (with focus on the presidency) but it seems this is about to change. For the first time in our 16years of democracy, the caliber of politicians I see around the APC candidate, General Mohammad Buhari, gives me hope that something might actually change if he wins. The chance of a Babatunde Fashola being the chief of staff to a President Buhari excites me because the two term serving governor of Lagos understands the issues and he comes across as a policy wonk. His political experience as Governor of Lagos state will also come in handy in getting policies formulated, passed through the National assembly and implemented to ensure a utilitarian social good. The office of Chief of staff to the President is a very important one because it serves as ‘the power behind the throne’, in saner climes, and the slim chance of a BRF leading that office inspires hope. I am almost certain that Oby Ezekwesili’s name would pop up when the time comes to fill sensitive Ministerial post in a Mohammadu Buhari presidency given her closeness to Nasir elrufai (The next governor of Kaduna State) and his closeness to a potential Presidential Buhari. The slim chance that the woman Japheth Omojuwa once proclaimed as the ‘Mother of the Nation’ – for her lead role in the noble BBOG movement – leading a sensitive Ministry as the Petroleum or Education Ministry Inspires hope. EKITI’s loss could be Nigeria’s gain in a Buhari Presidency. I have not seen any Nigerian; military or civilian dissect the problem and possible solution to the boko haram insurgency as Kayode Fayemi did during the interview he granted on 60 minutes with Angela. His grasp and succinct explanation of the different strands of boko haram shows that if given a chance he could make a real impact and formulate a comprehensive policy that can help tame these monsters that have ravaged parts of the NE unabated. His understanding of civil – military relations indicates he is capable of leading the Ministry of Defense with gusto. The slim chance this might happen also inspires hope. In the words of Babatunde Fashola, President Jonathan fired the hardworking and performing Bolaji Abdullahi as sports minister for political expediency. The slim chance that he could make a return to continue his good work in that ministry in a Buhari Presidency inspires hope. These individuals and many more I did not mention are not saints but they inspire hope because of their track records in public service and for some accidental reasons majority of them are in the APC. They represent examples of quality leaders Oby Ezekwesili refer to when she wrote thus; “For each of these countries, the stage was set for commencement of their economic transformation from Low Income Country (LIC) status to Upper Middle Income Country (MIC), MIC or close to MIC respectively by the advent of quality leadership at both their political and public institutions that in turn resulted in high public sector efficiency. At the epicenter of this efficiency was, and remains, the investment in leadership of the kind that drove a national vision which placed education, intellect, values, reward for only strenuous effort and hard work at the centre of their development strategy. Once the public sector was set aright, it freed up the private sector and the rest of society to aspire to perform at their maximum possibilities. You don’t have to agree with the aforementioned, but empirical study proves it to be very true. The very first sign of a potentially bad government is the caliber of politicians that surrounds a candidate during electioneering – pay-back time is inevitable and its negates the utilitarian calculation that supports the provision of social goods for millions of my compatriots against the few PCC members and their cohorts and that is what the PDP represented in 2011 and now. I am sure there are quality leaders in the PDP but POTFRON has shown nothing but a lack of will to put such a team together. That in addition to an abysmal performance for 6yrs makes me see hope in the APC presidential ticket. Political will is a necessary tool for the economic prosperity of every country, democratic or otherwise. A historical analysis of the Nigerian state has shown that the political will that serves as a catalyst for economic prosperity and development has been lacking. Our problems – I won’t bore you by listing them, as well all know what they are – are solvable, oh yes they are!!! To solve them we have to commit and vote for the potentially best team in February. The majority voting bloc in Nigerian can neither read nor write, hence, the onerous task of educating our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, uncles, aunt and close friends rest on the shoulders of those of us that are educated. We have to inspire hope in them about this team and convince them on the need to vote the Buhari/Osinbajo ticket. The Buhari/Osinbajo ticket and all the potential ‘technocratic politician’ that comes with them for me is the best team this time around. They represent a recipe that will take us from the brink, and lay a solid foundation for a better and solid tomorrow. We need radical monetary, economic, and political reforms and the transformation agenda of the last six years is nothing but a mirage and joke we must and should not continue with. History is replicate of countries that are prosperous and those that are beginning to prosper. The foundation of such prosperity is laid on; Infrastructure – like the interstate road system that Germany invented but which the U.S have mastered; massive funding for science and technology which has been manipulated as responsible for India’s growth; a virile public-education system that encourages the study of science and math. Borrowing from the words of CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, we have to download and modify the killer apps that have proved and are still proving to be working for prosperous countries – competition, modern science, the rule of law and private property rights, modern medicine, the consumer society and work ethic. These apps can be downloaded and modified to suit the Nigerian experience and these lads – Buhari/Osinbajo and their team – have the requisite political will, experience and or knowledge to deliver. They simply are the best team and we have to join hands with them irrespective of our reservations to make their dream a reality so that our dreams can be a reality. The Presidency should be a great dynamo producing fresh ideas; the force of those ideas as they resonate across the nation is a pretty safe gauge of an administration’s intention and vitality. President Goodluck Jonathan has pleaded with aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who lost out during the party’s primaries not to defect to other parties. Addressing PDP supporters in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, the president said those aggrieved now might have the opportunity to be elected after the tenure of the winners. Mr. Jonathan had made a similar plea last month following threats by some members who lost in the governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly primaries, to quit the party. However, prominent members of the party, including a former National Chairman of the PDP, Barnabas Gemade, a former National Auditor, Samuel Ortom, and a former Information Minister, Labaran Maku, dumped the party. There were also reports that the Ebonyi State Governor, Martin Elechi, some of his government’s officials and 22 governorship aspirants on the PDP platform in Akwa Ibom State, were also planning to leave the party. Mr. Jonathan asked the aggrieved aspirants to stay in the party members and work with those who won. “At the end of our primaries, there were grievances all over the country, not only the PDP, all parties. There is no party that will do primaries that there will be no issues, but we plead that we should stay, work together in the party,” the president. “Don’t leave the party because you are aggrieved, No. we have to stay together. The tenure of any office – whether it is the state assembly, Senator, House of Representatives member lasts four years. After that four years if you feel your were not treated well, it may be you turn. Probably, we didn’t give you higher office to run, stay we can carry ourselves together.” The president said the PDP’s campaign was essentially for the young people and women. He said Nigeria’s future belongs to the young people who must be developed to achieve their potentials. He added, “If I should tell Nigerians that myself and my age mates are the ones to take Nigeria to the moon then I am lying. We are almost gone. So we have to create the environment for the young people. “Every year we take young people to the best universities in the world. If we want to buy weapons we have to go to the left, go to the right to beg to buy. Those who manufacture these things are not angels they human beings like us. Our own case, probably we don’t have that kind of education that will make our people to come to revolutionise the industries. This is one of the reasons we are sending these people so that in the future they will be able to produce our needs. “This government is focused; we know where we are going. We know where we are taking this country to. We only say the young people should join us. Nobody should deceive you, nobody should buy your votes because since 1960 when we gained independence people have been buying your vote.” He said unlike the All Progressives Congress, APC, his administration would not build prisons. He however said if elected he would continue to build schools to grow the young ones. “It may be a day dream, but I am also dreaming that one day we will not have prisons in this country. One day we will be able to create enough opportunities for all Nigerians and Nigerians will not be thinking about prison,” he said. Mr. Jonathan also said he looked forward to the day a woman would become the president of Nigeria. Stating that the votes of the women were very important, the president said since 1960, Nigerian politicians had been playing politics, forming governments and constituting cabinets, but his administration was the first to give identity to the Nigerian women. “That is not where the PDP government wants to end. I have said that we want a situation where international magazine will talk about women in governance and any other thing. And for you to do that you must start at home. So also our women we must expose them. “Whatever they ask us what example can you give us so that we can be convinced? We are putting the women; even in ECOWAS, the person representing Nigeria is a woman, in OAU, the woman there, in the UN, a woman, Joy Ogwu is there. We are pushing more women to global level,” the president said. “This is the only administration that is ready to give, including the one I am asking for, to women. I would have loved to see a female president before I die. That is my aspiration. My aspiration is that I should see a female president before I die. I should see a female governor, deputy governors though we have some deputy governors already. We want to see women go further and further. At the national level we are pushing for more women to go to the parliament.” Mr. Jonathan said he always felt at home whenever he was in Ebonyi State, describing it as “a peaceful state”. He said the state and his home state, Bayelsa, were had a lot of things in common. He stated further, “Those problems we have in Bayelsa State are the problems we have here. That is why you don’t need to come to me to request for change. I have an idea. I may not know all. “Let me assure you that whatever you want we will do. The key things due to the ‘salt of the nation’ it will surely get.” The president also said his administration had a plan to stop importing rice in the next four years and that Ebonyi State was one of the states it was relying on to achieve what he described as “rice revolution.” Stating that the Abaliki rice was already popular, the president said “What we want to do is to improve on our farming, the quality of our produce, cassava and so on. It will surely key into our rice revolution. “We will develop young men and women that will go into commercial agriculture. We must work with people in Ebonyi State to encourage small and medium scale industries. That is the only thing we will do to create to job. Ebonyi State luckily has a lot of minerals. With the drop in the oil price, government will surely diversify the economy. Solid minerals and agriculture are some of these areas that we will go in.” Source: http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/175091-jonathan-begs-aggrieved-pdp-chieftains-not-leave-party.html |

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm over the safety of its National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun, and his family after his residence in Abuja was raided in the early hours of Monday by yet unknown invaders. In a statement in Lagos, Monday, by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said while hoping that a police investigation will unravel what happened, it is either those who attacked the residence at 1.30 am are robbers or assassins. It said while Chief Oyegun was away attending a previously unscheduled meeting in Abuja when the invaders struck, his wife who was at home was left deeply traumatized by the raid ”The facts of the raid as available so far point to a sinister motive. For example, only Chief Oyegun’s room was ransacked in the whole house. Common sense dictates that if the invaders were robbers, they would have ransacked the whole house in search of money and other valuables which they might have believed were in the residence ”The invaders, two burly men, removed the window burglar bars to gain access to the residence from the back, and then made straight for the bedroom of our National Chairman. Police security was in place at the residence when the incident happened,” APC said. The party said while it does not know who was behind the raid, it is worth noting that the angry rhetoric and vitriolic personality attacks that have been directed at the opposition by the top leadership of the ruling PDP and their spokesmen have heightened tension and put the lives of opposition politicians at risk, ahead of the forthcoming elections. It expressed gratitude to God for saving the lives of the APC National Chairman and his wife, wondering what would have happened if the Chairman had been home at the time of the raid. Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola has decried the Federal Government’s inability to properly account for the nation’s oil revenue. He spoke at the weekend at the inauguration of the 8.5-kilometre Amedokhian-Ugboha road, as part of activities marking the sixth year anniversary of Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s administration. Fashola said: “We have a national government that is unable to account for money for crude oil that they did not extract; it is the white people that are extracting it for them. The price is fixed internationally, the quantity is known, just to add up and tally. They say it is $20 billion that is missing, some say $10 billion. Should one dollar have been missing in any responsible government? So that is why corruption and accountability is an issue in the next election.” On the 8.5km Amedokhian-Ugboha road built by the Oshiomhole administration, Fashola said: “If a government at the state level that collects one over 96 per cent – because what the state gets is that the 36 states and Abuja share nine per cent of the total revenue. And they can do this kind of roads and all the red roofs that I have seen. Imagine what will happen, if you have a president and vice president that care. “The story of this road is the celebration of a community that has put its votes in support of a party that used to be the party in opposition. A community that has renewed its social contract to depart from a party that has deceived them and embrace change; a community that has seen what change is if people vote right. “This road will benefit the pedestrian; it will benefit the car owner; it will benefit the motorcyclist; and it will benefit the farmer and produce buyer and the market women. This is the economy of development. This road facilitates transport; it facilitates trade; it facilitates health care delivery and this really is the heart of democracy. “Government that builds roads does not build roads simply because they want to build roads. They are governments that understand that a community or society cannot be bigger than its infrastructure and the wider the roads the bigger the prosperity that comes to that community.” To Oshiomhole, Nigerians must vote out the PDP for failing to provide electricity after 16 years in power. He stressed the need for the people to vote for the APC at all levels as the PDP has failed to provide the basic facilities needed by the people. Oshiomhole said: “I need you to connect with this election. There are no miracles in development. It is about planning, commitment, honesty and judicious application of resources. PDP’s only resolve is to steal. “Sixteen years of PDP, Nigerians have no water and no light; they are still using generators. In the name of privatisation, they handed over electricity in Edo to their friends; they are collecting money from you without light.” Oshiomhole said the elections were around the corner, urging the people to elect the House of Assembly that would support the appropriation of funds for projects. “That is why this coming election is very important,” he said. “The import of electing responsible people to the House of Assembly should not be lost on you. There are people who are there only for money. They will ask the governor to bring the money to share rather than build roads – our people need to understand that. Understand that membership of the House of Assembly is not a small job. “The other party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over the years, found that election rigging is easier in communities that are not accessible. So, they benefit from their own criminal neglect of providing infrastructure, particularly access roads to rural communities. I am a believer of even development. “Central to rural development and to consign poverty to history, it is important we invest in rural infrastructure, particularly road network.” Source: http://thenationonlineng.net/new/fed-govt-cant-account-oil-money-says-fashola/ |
The Special Taskforce on Jos crisis has announced that it has arrested the suspects that set ablaze two campaign buses of President Goodluck Jonathan. PREMIUM TIMES had reported how the campaign vehicles, branded with Mr. Jonathan’s campaign pictures, were set ablaze by youth in Jos on Saturday. The spokesperson of the STF, Ikedichi Iweha, announced the arrest in a telephone interview with journalists in Jos on Sunday. He, however, declined to state the number of people arrested. A witness to the arrest, however, said six people were arrested and that some of them might not have been involved in the incident. The attack has been condemned by both Mr. Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party, and the president’s major challenger, Muhammadu Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who called for the arrest and prosecution of those involved. On Sunday, a leader of the APC in Plateau State, Yahaya Kwande, also condemned the attack and charged Nigerian youth, irrespective of political affiliations, not to engage in such attacks. In his statement, the politician advised Nigerian youth to change the Jonathan administration through the ballot box come February 14. “Nigeria youth should remain peaceful and orderly, I call on them to remain calm, and use their individual voter cards to vote in the APC at all levels; your votes are more powerful than the bullets, but we must use them wisely,” he said. Mr. Kwande lamented the challenges facing Nigerians, saying “we are aware of the fact that Nigerians are in terrible situation, they are faced with a lot of hardships due to bad Governance, by the PDP, however, I am appealing on them to be patient.” Source: http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/174703-security-operatives-arrest-suspects-burnt-jonathans-campaign-vehicles.html |

The government of Niger says its troops are unlikely to return to Baga, the latest community in Borno state, to have fallen under the control of Boko Haram. Until the attack, which led to casualties on the sides of both the insurgents and security forces, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) was coordinating its operations from its headquarters in Baga. MNJTF was established in 1998 to checkmate banditry activities and also facilitate free movement of the member states of the Lake Chad Basin Commission across their common border. But speaking to the BBC on Friday, Mohamed Bazoum, Niger’s foreign minister, alleged that that his country had withdrawn its security forces as far back as October. “We have 50 soldiers there and decided to withdraw them after Boko Haram captured Malamfatori town in October and continued to operate in the area with impunity,” he said. “As you know, Baga is under the control of Boko Haram terrorists and unless the town is recaptured from them, we will not send back our troops. “But we are still determined to work with our neighbours Cameroon, Chad and Nigeria to contain the situation – it is a problem for us all.” In an earlier interview with journalists, Alex Badeh, Nigeria’s chief of defence staff, corroborated Bazoum’s claim. “They have not pulled out of multinational force because we have held several meetings,” he said in response to a question. “They are still part of the multinational force. What has been happening is that they have not contributed troops to the point of Baga. “Chad has people on their own side but I believe they have withdrawn. Niger had people with us; they too withdrew and left Nigeria only at the multinational force headquarters.” Following series of attacks, Baga has become deserted. Musa Bukar, a senior government official in the area, said on Thursday that the insurgents burnt down almost the entire town, killing “more than 2,000″ people in two raids that were only days apart. He added that slain bodies were scattered over the streets of Baga, while the entire town had literally been burnt down. Source: http://www.thecable.ng/niger-soldiers-may-never-return-baga |
A shortage of the scratch cards for donations to the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign has hit Adamawa. The first batch of N3 million worth of scratch cards that arrived the state capital, Yola, last week sold out in less than 24 hours. The chairman of the Buhari Campaign Organization, Ibrahim Waziri, who confirmed the development said fresh supply was on its way. Mr. Waziri said as soon the organisation would inform the public of fresh supply which should come into the state by Friday. He apologized to Mr. Buhari’s supporters in the state and vowed that measures would be taken to avert future shortages. Meanwhile, the supporters have complained of the shortage, saying it affected their desire to contribute to Mr. Buhari’s campaign. They said buying the cards was the easiest way to contribute when compared to going to a bank to make a deposit. “As a KEKE NAPEP operator, I prefer the card instead of going to queue in the bank for hours trying to contribute” Ibrahim Ladan said. Buba Ishaku, an APC supporter in Jada Local Government, said there were many supporters in the rural areas eager to buy the card. “The campaign organization needs to know that we need a huge supply so that the card can reach everywhere in Adamawa,” Mr. Ishaku said.
