Professor Tam David-West, former Minister of Petroleum Resources, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to start preparing his hand-over note because his days in office as president of Nigeria are numbered. The reason, according to David-West, is because Jonathan’s party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will suffer a humiliating defeat in the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections. “Jonathan should quickly look for shoes and go back to Otuoke. I have shoes in Ibadan and Abuja, I can give him some if he is in need of shoes. “Everywhere you go, you see signs that the end of this government, led by Jonathan, is very near. Honestly, I do not have anything against him, but a party and a man that can better manage Nigeria has appeared on the scene, and we have no choice but to save our country from an impending doom.” The elder statesman and Professor of Virology said Nigerians cannot continue to tolerate a government that is evidently confused and incapable of providing leadership. He warned that the drift in almost every sphere of our national life will continue if Jonathan is not shown the way out because, according to him, the president lacks the capacity to lead. David-West also called on President Jonathan to show Nigerians his doctoral thesis, and end the ragging controversy around his certificate. “I became a professor in 1974, so when I see a scholar I know. I have asked people to look for the PhD of Jonathan but I am yet to find it. I think he owes Nigerians an explanation because he is our president, Professor David-West said. Suspected militants from Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram have hijacked a bus in northern Cameroon, abducting at least 20 people, residents say. Militants reportedly seized a bus carrying market-goers and drove it toward the border with Nigeria. Some reports put the total number kidnapped in Cameroon as high as 30. Boko Haram has escalated its attacks outside Nigeria in recent weeks, targeting neighbouring Cameroon and Niger. The insurgency has forced a postponement of Nigeria's presidential and parliamentary elections from 14 February to 28 March. The bus was seized near the border area of Koza and driven towards the Nigerian border 18km (11 miles) away, a resident told the Associated Press news agency. Prison attacked In an apparently related incident, several Boko Haram fighters were killed and around 10 Cameroonian soldiers injured as the militants attacked Kerawa, a local journalist told the BBC. A separate group of fighters reportedly attacked the nearby town of Kolofata, looting food and livestock. The attacks in Cameroon follow a series of assaults on the border towns of Bosso and Diffa in Niger. Boko Haram militants targeted a prison in Diffa on Monday but were repelled by soldiers from Niger and Chad. Diffa was also targeted by a car bomb which exploded near a market, news agencies reported, citing residents and military sources. A local journalist in Diffa told AFP he counted one dead and 15 injured. Niger's parliament is due to vote on Monday on contributing 700 troops to a regional force battling to regain territory from Boko Haram ahead of Nigeria's rescheduled elections. Abbo Moro, Nigeria's interior minister, told the BBC he believes the fight against the militant group will be successful enough for the elections to go ahead. Elections for state governors and assemblies slated for 28 February have also been moved to 11 April. BBC Nigeria correspondent Will Ross says many observers in the country see the delay as a political move aimed at helping the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan. Uncertainty over the election is also having economic repercussions, our reporter says, with Nigeria's currency the naira falling to a record low on Monday. The Boko Haram insurgency has caused more than 1.5 million people to flee their homes. On Saturday, Nigeria and the governments of Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin agreed to establish a force of 8,700 troops, police and civilians to fight the group. As the battle to eradicate the Boko Haram terrorists in the northeastern parts of the country intensifies with Nigerian troops in conjunction with allied forces from neighboring countries gaining the upper hand, there is suppressed excitement about the reported death of a top ranking leader of the terrorist group. According to PRNigeria, the death of the leader was a casualty of the ongoing heavy air bombing from warplanes while clearing the way for the ground troops of multinational task force to move into some border towns. A few weeks ago the military high command had obtained approval of political authorities in Abuja to go all out and clear the region of insurgency before the February general elections. At a period when massive operations were to start, the terrorists carried out simultaneous desperate and diversionary attacks on Maiduguri, Konduga and Monguno to both delay the commencement of planned military offensive and allow for the escape of their commanders. Despite this, the operations commenced. There has been fierce fighting in the cooperation with Chad, Niger and Cameroon, who are all Nigeria’s neighbours. The attacks led to capture of many towns and villages, previously infested by the terrorists. Some of the towns include Gamboru-Ngala, Malam Fatori, Michika, Abadam, Kirawa and Ashigashiya, while the liberation of Gwaoza, Gulak and others may be announced any moment from now. During these battles, some of the weapons captured from troops when the terrorists overran Baga, the headquarters of the International Joint Task Force some weeks ago, were recovered by the Nigerian fighters. The leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, in a video released shortly after the Baga attack boasted that his fighters captured world-class sophisticated weaponry from the Nigerian troops who he referred to as the ‘cowards’. Among the recovered weapons is a battle armoured vehicle (tank) equipped with comprehensive protective system, canon with maximum firing distance and accuracy, and with an anti-aircraft rotating mount. Tank’s firing accuracy is attained by the range-finder, the ballistic computer with a thermal barrel sleeve. Several other weapons, arms and ammunition, including a variety of armoured vehicles and artillery guns, as well as several Hilux vehicles, were also re-captured from Boko Haram. A reliable security source confirmed the death of the top-ranking Boko Haram leader during the air raid. The name of the commander, his authenticity, was still being investigated by military authorities. The leader was one of the senior officers in Boko Haram command to late founder of the group, Muhammed Yusuf. When Major General Chris Olukolade, the Defence Headquarters spokesperson, was contacted by PRNigeria, he declined to comment on the development, saying: “as far as we are concerned, anybody that is associated with terrorism is a target and right now, we have a task of cleaning up the entire Boko Haram infested region and returning peace to the country.” The leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, has been in the centre of controversy fore years regarding the death rumours. On August 19, 2013, the Joint Task Force (JTF) announced the death of Shekau. They claimed he died of gunshots wounds received in an encounter with the JTF in one of their camps in Sambisa Forest on June 30, 2013. He was said to be mortally wounded in the encounter and was sneaked into Amitchide border community in Cameroon for treatment from which he never recovered. Months later, another character appeared in a video claiming to be Shekau but having different mannerisms, gait and character from the original Shekau. Incidentally, the reign of this Shekau, termed Abubakar Shekau 11 by security sources, was short-lived as he was reportedly killed in a shootout with Nigerian troops in Konduga on Wednesday September 17, 2014. Although video and still shots of the encounter were provided by the military and the independent sources, the character has once again appeared in another video shortly afterwards, claiming to still be Abubakar Shekau. Military and security sources referred to him as Abubakar Shekau 111. Source: http://www.naij.com/379993-cautious-jubilation-over-rumoured-death-of-top-ranking-terrorist-commander.html

One day after one of his hero pilots was burned alive by ISIS, and broadcast for a horrified world to see, King Abdullah of Jordan took swift and decisive action. First, he executed the two ISIS prisoners who the group had sought to be released, hanging them by the neck at dawn this morning. Then, in an unprecedented act of personal vengeance, the King, a trained pilot, was said to be planning to personally lead a combat mission to bomb ISIS positions in Syria. So hardcore. Jordan's King Abdullah is seen now in combat gear, with rumors of him leading a battalion against #ISIS pic.twitter.com/Z0SQsB4Feb” — Brennan Mancil (@BrennanMancil) February 5, 2015 And hours later, it was confirmed: عاجل ⭕️| ضربة جوية اردنية على معاقل #داعش الآن يشارك فيها ملك #الاردن "عبدالله الثاني" pic.twitter.com/7Z1hDUKunp — عاجل المملكة (@KsaBrk) February 4, 2015 Many heads of states around the world have paid lip service to fighting jihadists and standing against the monsters of ISIS. King Abdullah is walking the talk. The King addressed members of the U.S. Congress yesterday, and reportedly quoted Clint Eastwood from his film Unforgiven in declaring his resolve to avenge his pilot’s savage murder on ISIS: Hunter would not say which part of “Unforgiven” the king quoted, but noted it was where Eastwood’s character describes how he is going to deliver his retribution. There is a scene in the picture in which Eastwood’s character, William Munny, says, “Any man I see out there, I’m gonna kill him. Any son of a bitch takes a shot at me, I’m not only going to kill him, I’m going to kill his wife and all his friends and burn his damn house down.“ This man is seriously pissed, and determined to avenge his pilot’s savage death. By contrast, Obama refuses to call ISIS “Islamic extremists” or “terrorists.” And he freed 5 key Taliban leaders from Gitmo in exchange for traitor/deserter Bowe Bergdhal — and added insult to American injury by inviting Bergdahl’s father to recite a Muslim prayer in the Rose Garden ceremony announcing the betrayal. Today, Obama welcomed illegal aliens and the Muslim Brotherhood into the White House. By the way, King Abdullah is a secular ruler, whose (gorgeous) wife Queen Rania does not wear a veil or hijab. Five governors on the platform of People’s Democratic Party, especially those from the northern part of the country will soon dump the party for All Progressive Congress, Chief Odigie Oyegun, the National Chairman of the APC said in Benin City, Edo State, on Wednesday. Oyegun said he has held meetings with the said governors and he (Oyegun) has directed them to start the formalities for defection in their various states. “Let me reveal to you people today that very very soon, you will hear of an earthquake that will consume PDP in this country. As I’m talking to you people now, I have held meetings with some governors that want to join the APC from the PDP. Let me not release the cat out of the bag. But let me assure you that few hours to the presidential and National Assembly elections, the PDP canoe will sink. “You can see that our President and his party PDP have engaged in one character assassination or the other, yet we are focusing on our campaigns of issues and not names calling. “The hand writing is so clear , February 14th , 2015 is love day , that date is a special day for our party , as from that day Jonathan will start to park his belongings away from Aso Rock . “The elections cannot be postponed and they cannot rig it either. Just go there that day, vote and protect it. It is evidently clear that PDP and Jonathan are running scared. “It is laughable that an NSA, Col. Dasuki, that cannot advice the President on how to tackle insurgency in Nigeria, is calling for elections’ postponement.” http://thenationonlineng.net/new/five-pdp-governors-will-join-apc-oyegun/ |

Vice President Muhammed Namadi Sambo yesterday urged electorates not to be deceived by anyone in the name of religion to decide who to vote for in the upcoming general elections. The vice President made the call in Minna during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential campaign. He said his party has more Muslims in its leadership than the All Progressive Congress (APC). He said “when people bring the issue of religion to deceive you, our party has more Muslims than APC. Therefore if this (is) the yardstick, we then have an edge. "Our chairman is a Muslim; the Director General of our campaign is a Muslim likewise. I Namadina Namadina Sambo is a Muslim. It is only our presidential candidate that is a Christian. "In APC, their chairman is a Christian, their Campaign Director General is a Christian and the Vice President is a Pastor. Now let me ask you, which between the parties has more Muslims?” Sambo added that “Nigeria belongs to both Christians and Muslims. During Tafawa-Balewa, he worked with Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe a Christian, during Shagari he worked with Alex Ekweme, Obasanjo with Atiku, Late Umaru Yaradua with Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and now Goodluck with Namadi."
