PoliticsWe Will Expose The Real Buhari — Femi Fani-kayode by argon500(op): 10:01pm On Jan 07, 2015
A former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, on Wednesday said there are dangers in electing Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the opposition party All Progressives Congress, APC, as the President of Nigeria come February 14.
Mr. Fani-Kayode, who is the spokesperson of President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign team, said the group will expose the dangers he described.
He said this at a news conference in Abuja.
Mr. Fani-Kayode said the president’s campaign team would run a campaign that focuses on facts, figures and the exposure of Mr. Buhari, “for who he really is”.
“It is our full intention to expose General Muhammadu Buhari for what he really is, what he stands for and the great danger that his candidacy portends for the unity of the Nigerian state and the peace and well-being of the Nigerian people,” he said.
Mr. Fani-Kayode said the team he leads will also let the world know about the sterling performance of President Jonathan, over the last four years and will also make a strong case to the Nigerian people on the reasons to grant the sitting president, the opportunity to serve a second term.
“We believe that we have reached a crossroads in our nation’s history and that the forthcoming Presidential Election is a battle for the very soul and destiny of Nigeria,” he said.
Mr. Fani-Kayode said the election would expose the clear differences between Messrs. Jonathan and Buhari, which he described as “light and darkness”.
“We believe that General Buhari represents the darkness and that President Jonathan represents the light. We believe that General Buhari represents a return to an ugly past, which is best forgotten while President Jonathan represents our hope for a greater and better future.
“We believe that the APC, on which platform General Buhari is contesting the presidential election, represents everything that is unholy and unwholesome in our society and that the PDP represents all that is decent and good,” he said.
Mr. Fani-Kayode said the much-touted “change” campaign of Mr. Buhari represents nothing but change from good to evil.
“If you want a positive change, you cannot expect to get it from a man like General Buhari whose democratic credentials are questionable and whose record in public office is shameful and disastrous,” he said.
The former Minister said most Nigerians do not remember the “atrocities” that Mr. Buhari committed when he was in power, adding that it is the responsibility of his team to “document them and remind the Nigerian people about them”.
“Most people have chosen to ignore the number of things that General Buhari has said and the number of things that he has done over the last few months and years that have brought carnage, division and strife in our society and that prove that he is not the sort of person that can be trusted with power.
“It is our intention to bring those things to the attention of the Nigerian people so that they can make an informed choice,” he said.
Mr. Fani-Kayode said Nigeria should not be run by a man that is not capable of tolerating dissent or by a political party like the APC that has no sense of remorse, restraint or decency and that is not capable of accepting a plurality of views.
He said Mr. Jonathan has earned the right for a second term and that, in the next few weeks, his campaign team will make a humble appeal to the Nigerian people to vote for him massively in the February 14 Presidential Election.
“By the grace and power of God, we shall prevail,” he said.
Responding to a reporter’s questions on whether Mr. Jonathan will travel to the northeastern part of Nigeria that has been under constant attack by the Boko Haram insurgents to canvass for votes, Mr. Fani-Kayode said the president would go to the region and “has answers to all their questions”.
“In spite of acts of insurgency in the North-East, the PDP-led Federal Government had done a lot to contain the situation,” he said.
He also dismissed allegations of the president condoning corruption, saying no one has been indicted or prosecuted for corruption because “no one has presented credible evidence of corruption against any top government official”.

PoliticsBuhari Will Bring Darkness To Nigeria - FFK by argon500(op): 5:25pm On Jan 07, 2015
PDP presidential campaign spokesman, Femi Fani-Kayode said that APC’s presidential flag bearer, Muhammadu Buhari represents darkness while President Jonathan represents light.

He stated that General Buhari’s record is nothing to write home about and is shameful. He told newsmen at the PDP campaign headquarters in Abuja today: “We wish to inform you that it is our intention to run a clean campaign that is based on facts, figures and issues.

We shall not indulge in the type of cheap propaganda, mud-slinging and deceit that the APC and their Presidential candidate have been indulging in over the last few weeks and months but it is our full intention to expose General Muhammadu Buhari for what he really is, what he stands for and the great danger that his candidacy portends for the unity of the Nigerian state and the peace and well-being of the Nigerian people.

More importantly, we shall let the world know about the sterling performance of our candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, over the last four years and we shall make a strong case and appeal to the Nigerian people to grant him the privilege and opportunity to serve a second term.

We believe that we have reached a crossroads in our nation’s history and that the forthcoming Presidential Election is a battle for the very soul and destiny of Nigeria. We believe that it is a struggle between light and darkness.

We believe that General Buhari represents the darkness and that President Jonathan represents the light. We believe that General Buhari represents a return to an ugly past which is best forgotten while President Jonathan represents our hope for a greater and better future.

We believe that the APC, on which platform General Buhari is contesting the presidential election, represents everything that is unholy and unwholesome in our society and that the PDP represents all that is decent and good.

Femi Fani Kayode was formerly a member of the APC at its initial stage but went back to the PDP after a close in door meeting with Jonathan.

PoliticsPeace Will Soon Return To North East – Shettima by argon500(op): 4:16pm On Jan 07, 2015
Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno said on Tuesday that peace would soon be restored to the troubled North East zone of the country.
Shettima gave the assurance to State House correspondents after a security meeting with Service Chiefs, some Governors and Senators from the North East zone presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The governor, who said that the meeting was convened to strategise on new method and ways of fighting insurgency in the affected states, described the deliberations as ’’very fruitful’’.
‘‘Well, we had very fruitful deliberations and pollination of ideas on how to find lasting solution to the insurgency bedevilling us in that part of the world.
‘‘I’m an eternal optimist and I am passionate too for that matter that we shall have enduring peace very soon with the very robust frame work on ground.
‘‘I don’t want to mention a date or anything but I believe our military is arising to the challenges of the time.’’
According to him, the military will robustly respond to the security challenges, assuring that elections will be conducted in Borno and other states in the zone.
‘‘Elections as I told you was conducted in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and several other war torn places and are even more devastated than the north east.
‘‘Elections can be held in the IDPs camps, human beings that conduct elections not spirit or anything.
‘‘My take on this is that, are we giving in to Boko Haram? Are we giving in to their antics by not holding elections? We have to tell them to their face that you can kill as Malala Yusuff said, but you cannot kill our spirit.’’
The governor also assured that the state government would continue to provide logistics and financial support to the security agencies to enable them carry out their operations.
‘‘Our most important task is to offer whatever support be it logistics, financial to the military to carry out on their operations.
‘‘Honestly I don’t want to dwell on the politics behind the counter-insurgency operations because we are one people with a common destiny.
‘‘And this is the time for all of us irrespective of differences in political affiliations, religious persuasions, tribal or sectional background to collapse into a single course and bring about this madness to an end.’’

RomanceTaming Jealousy Before It Ruins Your Relationship by argon500(op): 10:17pm On Jan 02, 2015
Jealousy is a natural human emotion that everyone feels from time to time. It can be found in just about all relationships: parent/child, friendships, boss/employee, and of course, in romantic relationships. It's the romantic relationships in which it can be the most problematic.

A little jealousy is not a bad sign-- it indicates that you care about a person so much that you fear losing that person.

Ironically, though, too much jealousy can end up causing you to destroy your relationship with the very person you feared losing.

Like any other emotion, jealousy is something you need to learn to deal with and express, while not allowing it to rule you. Your relationship may depend on it.

What Is Jealousy Exactly?

Jealousy is often confused with envy, but they're not the same thing. Envy is when you want what others have; jealousy is when you are worried about someone taking away something you have.

If your partner is trustworthy, give him the benefit of the doubt.

It is a complex series of emotions that can be felt in varying intensities. It pops up when your partner is giving too much attention to someone or something other than you. It can be a person— like some guy flirting with your girlfriend.

You might be jealous of your boyfriend’s buddies because he always seems to put hanging out with them ahead of spending time with you. You may even be jealous of your own child— like if your wife is doting too much on the new baby and neglecting you. Jealousy doesn’t even have to be sparked by a person— you could feel jealous of your husband’s job or hobby if it takes.

attention away from you.

The Problem with Excessive Jealousy

When jealousy gets out of hand, it’s usually a sign of deeper problems. The jealous person may be insecure, fear abandonment or lack the ability to trust her partner. She feels threatened by something she sees as having the ability to take her loved one away from her.

That threat doesn’t even have to be real. It can be totally imagined. Your wife may barely ever give her co-worker a second thought, but you may be jealous that she goes to work and spends all day sharing an office with him.

At its worst, jealousy can manifest as obsession, paranoia, attempts to control your partner, abuse or nasty arguments that strain the relationship.

Taming Jealous Impulses

When jealousy strikes, it’s important to realize that it’s not to your partner, or anything she might be paying attention to, that you have to check first. These feelings are coming from inside of you, and nothing your partner changes will ever make them go away.

What you have to check at the first sign of jealousy are your own feelings— are you feeling insecure? Unworthy of love? Are you distressed that your partner will grow tired of you, or realize you’re not worth her time and move on? If so, this is the root of the problem.

If your partner is trustworthy, give him the benefit of the doubt. Talk about your feelings and ask questions without being accusing or confrontational. If communication is difficult, counseling might help.

Don't jump to conclusions about your partner’s every action- smiling at someone is not necessarily flirtation, working late is not always a sign of infidelity, and an unknown phone number could have just been a wrong number. It's important to not let your imagination work overtime, or you'll see what you expect to see rather than what's really there.

Nurture your relationship. Talk, spend time together and do romantic things for each other. The more you do, the more secure you will feel, keeping the old green-eyed monster at bay.
PoliticsStudent Jailed For ‘insulting’ Kenyan President On Facebook by argon500(op): 9:07pm On Jan 02, 2015
A 25-year-old political science student at Moi University has been sentenced to a year in prison for insulting Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta on Facebook. Alan Wadi Okengo, also known as Lieutenant Wadi, has also been told to pay a fine of $2,200 (£1,400) or serve a second year in jail. The posts were reportedly in opposition to the new security law, which was signed by the president a fortnight ago despite outcry from the opposition in Parliament.

Mr. Okengo pleaded guilty to two charges of hate speech for using “unprintable insults” against the president and also for demeaning authority of a public officer.
The charge against him stated that “the message he sent was calculated to to bring into contempt the lawful authority of the President of the Republic of Kenya.”
Kenyan website, The Daily Nation reported that Okengo was arrested when he tried to sneak out of the country on New Year Eve brought back to Nairobi CID headquarters where he was interrogated.
He reportedly told the magistrate, Ann Kaguru, that he was prepared to “apologised to President Kenyatta personally if he was not handed down a custodial sentence.”

However the magistrate, in announcing the sentence, said “the offence is serious and a deterrent penalty is called for to serve as a warning to others abusing the social media forums.” Kenyatta faces huge opposition on new law The controversial new security law has seen fierce resistance from the opposition who say that Kenya was turning into a “police state” and that the bill, if passed would further compromise the county’s democratic beliefs. “The real target of this ‘law’ is not terrorism. Its aim is to reintroduce the police state and political hegemony,” the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) said in a statement. The new law will allow security agencies in the country to “detain terror suspects for up to one year, to tap communications without court consent.” Journalists in the country would also have to seek permission from the police before publishing any story on terrorism related issues, while landlords and hotels would be compelled to provide security officers with information about their tenants and guests. The president has defended the law arguing that the government needs more power in order to combat the Militant Islamist group al-Shabab who had intensified their attacks in the country in recent times, including two attacks in December which killed more than 60 people.

PoliticsMuslim Parliament Wants Jonathan Voted Out In 2015 by argon500(op): 1:37pm On Jan 02, 2015
The Muslim Parliament has cautioned Nigerians not to make the mistake of the 2011 elections by re-electing the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

The muslim parliament gave the caution in a statement issued on Thursday, signed by the Chairman of Bauchi State Muslims Parliament, Imam Rabi’u Shehu, a copy obtained by Leadership.

The parliament alleged that the present leadership has within its period of stewardship brought corruption, insecurity, impunity and breakdown of law and order, among others, to the country.

“Within the period, the nation has witnessed corruption in monumental dimensions in all sectors of the economy, insecurity bedevilled the nation, impunity and breakdown of law and order, just to mention a few,” it said.

Shehu, appealed to the electorate to elect candidates of impeccable character and requisite experience in good governance, selfless service to humanity and sense of patriotism to take the nation out of its present predicaments.

The chairman remarked that the federal government had not adequately addressed the yearnings, aspirations and expectations of Nigerians especially in areas of security of lives and property, freedom of rights, social well-being and the safeguarding territorial integrity of the community.

“Religious organisations should not relent in mobilisation and sensitisation of their members, as imams and pastors in various mosques and churches should lead their congregations in the prayers for peaceful elections, unity of the nation and emergence of leaders who have the interest of the nation in their heart,” Shehu said.

The chairman, who drew Nigerians attention to the importance and challenges the 2015 elections portend for the survival of the nation as a corporate entity, said: “only voting for candidates with proven integrity, unblemished records of service and pedigree for achievements and deliverance will turn the fortunes of the nations around.

Shehu commiserated with the victims of the Boko Haram atrocities, and called for prayers for an end to the dastardly inhuman acts of the terrorist group.

It would be recalled that the apex Islamic body in the North, Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), had also revealed why the Boko Haram Insurgency has persisted in Nigeria.

PoliticsAs A Man Of Faith, I See 2015 Election As A Turning Point – Oritsejafor by argon500(op): 1:28pm On Jan 02, 2015
Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, the President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has urged Nigerians of all tribes and religions to unite against challenges in 2015.
He said Nigerians should approach 2015 with a renewed sense of vigour and the understanding for the development of the country.
Oritsejafor made the call in a New Year message, he said Nigerians should approach 2015 by inviting God’s presence to lead the country in everything and approach issues with a positive mind.
“If we want peace and prosperity then we must work for it and not lament over challenges; this is the spirit that will lead Nigeria to the promise land,’’ he said.
According to Oritsejafor, Nigerians must learn to support their leaders in prayers and physical support in the New Year.
He said Nigerians should show love and make sacrifices for the nation collectively, in a quest for a better Nigeria in 2015.
“Despite the daunting challenges in 2014, we were able to weather the storm and have emerged even stronger and can be counted among people of strong character and unwavering faith.
“ We have come to the end of another eventful year that truly tested our strengths and weaknesses; measured our faith in God and stretched our limits beyond what we all could have imagined.
“ As we reflect on the events of the past year and look forward to the times ahead, I want us to concentrate on the issue of overcoming all challenges,’’ he said.
Oritsejafor allayed fears among many Nigerians that the 2015 general elections would throw the country into chaos.
“As a man of faith, I see the election as Nigeria’s turning point.’’
He urged leaders in the country to be wise and courageous in their decisions in the coming year.
“It has already been known that the challenges are becoming multifaceted from insecurity to crashing oil prices and many others.
“ I see a lot of positives and opportunities in the midst of these challenges and that is what I want Nigerians to absorb in their hearts.
“The year 2015 may seem quite challenging for Nigeria, but it is one that equally holds a lot of hope and promise that could lead to the fulfillment that we have all yearned for.
“ I believe that 2015 might just be that year in which Nigeria’s socio-economic revolution will be actualised,’’ he said.
Oritsejafor commended the gallant men and women in the battle against insurgents and wished Nigerians well in the New Year.

PoliticsFemale Suicide Bomber Killed In Kano by argon500(op): 12:12pm On Jan 01, 2015
A female suicide bomber wearing an explosives belt was killed in Kano as she tried to enter a military barracks December 31.
AFP reports with reference to eyewitnesses that the soldiers opened fire on the woman wearing hijab after she had refused to be searched upon approaching the barracks in Bolari. The shots were said to have immediately detonated the explosives belt wrapped around her.
The woman died on the spot. One of the witnesses, Shuaibu Nasir, narrated:
“The woman refused to stop and continued to advance towards the military guards at the gates despite repeated orders from them to stop at a distance.

“The soldiers opened fire on the woman who quickened her pace towards them and as they fired shots at her she exploded with a loud sound that shook our buildings.”
According to another local, Ahmed Baballe, the bomber was “blown to pieces” by the impact of the explosion.
“The soldiers didn’t take chances with the woman and opened fire when she showed no sign of stopping to be searched.”

It would be recalled that Nigeria’s security have recently arrested Zaharau Babangida, a 13-year-old Kano could-be suicide bomber. The girl narrated how her own father had introduced her into insurgency and what had happened on the fateful day of the attack at Kwari market.

PoliticsBoko Haram: Army Explains Delay In Recapturing Seized Towns by argon500(op): 6:26pm On Dec 31, 2014
The Nigerian Army said on Wednesday that the need to reduce collateral damage had delayed the recapture of some towns and villages seized by insurgents in Borno.

Brig.-Gen. Olajide Laleye, the Director, Army Public Relations, gave the explanation while fielding questions at news conference in Abuja.

“We are not interested in collateral damage. The Nigeria Army is very careful about collateral damage, to that extent our operations are carefully planned to make sure that collateral damage is reduced to the barest minimum.

“If certain areas have not been recaptured it is because the Nigerian army is giving such areas very careful plans, the plans are ongoing. At the right time you will see the outcome; we will not tell you, of course, before hand, of what we intend to do; but you will see the outcome,” Laleye said.

According to him, Nigerians will be pleased at the end of such operations that collateral damage is reduced to the barest minimum.

He assured that law abiding Nigerians in those areas would be rescued from the insurgents, while those towns and villages completely freed from terrorism and insurgency.

Earlier, he said Gombi, Hong, Uba, Makera, Holma and Vimtim, all in Adamawa, had been recaptured, adding that the current military offensive would be sustained until the enemy was “completely defeated”.

Laleye said new strategies had been introduced in the ongoing war after formations and units involved were evaluated, adding that this had impacted positively on the counter-insurgency operations in the North East.

He said that all officers and men involved in the operations in the region would undergo counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency training before being deployed in theatre of operation.

The army spokesman explained that this followed the directive of the Chief of Army Staff that all Divisional Headquarters should set up schools to step up counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency and Special Operations training.

“The Nigerian Army wishes to restate its determination to bring this counter insurgency and counter terrorism operations to a speedy and decisive end.

“Equally, the Nigerian Army seizes this opportunity to reassure Nigerians of its preparedness to support relevant agencies in the successful conduct of the 2015 general elections,” he said.

On the ongoing Court Martial of some officers, Laleye explained that it was necessary to enforce discipline in the armed forces and achieve success in the war against insurgency.

He said success achieved so far would not have been possible if the army do not undertake steps to remain a formidable fighting force through time tested procedures and enforcement of regulations.

“The judicial process that led to the convictions and acquittals (of some officers) followed international best practices in the military law and also conforms to relevant Nigerian laws.

“Let me state categorically that a General Court Martial has the status of the High Court and is back by extant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The General Court Martial is not a final authority. Its processes are not only subject to confirmation by the appropriate superior authority but also subject to appeal,” he said.

PoliticsWe’ve Not Endorsed Any Presidential Candidate —SOUTH-EAST TRADERS by argon500(op): 1:07pm On Dec 31, 2014
After its emergency executive meeting in Onitsha yesterday, South-East Markets Amalgamated Traders Association, SEMATA, declared that it had not adopted any presidential candidate for the 2015 elections.
SEMATA, however, said it would come up with one candidate after its general meeting in January 2015 and warned the traders not to distract its business with speculations of which candidate it would support in 2015.
Executive members of SEMATA, who were at the meeting were Chief Ezenwankwo, from Anambra; Temple Udeh, Secretary-General, Enugu; Chief Christian, Nwaubani, Vice President, Abia State; Mr. Martin Iwuozor, Treasurer, Imo State; Peter Oba, Financial Secretary, Ebonyi State; Chief Gozie Akudolu, Coordinator, Anambra; Jude Osuagwu, Aba, Abia State; Domnic Offoregbu, Public Relations Officer, and Christian Kalibe, Provost, among others.
President General of the association, Chief Okwudili Ezenwanko, said the meeting and the resolution members took became imperative to avoid disaffection and destruction of the long existing peaceful association among the traders.
He said: “We are very much aware that some traders, including our SEMATA members of executive may belong to one political party or the other or may even have sympathy for some candidates running for other political positions and know that different political parties are controlling South-East states.
“We do not want them to bring issues that can cause disaffection into our association. Different political parties have their strong bases in the five South-East states.
“We have equally resolved and unanimously agreed that we will have a general meeting of all the SEMATA executive and traders on January 2015, where we will adopt the party and the presidential candidate we will support and vote for, that will protect the interest of the traders in the South-East and other part of the country who are impressed with what SEMATA is doing in the South-East and the country in general.”

PoliticsSECRET DOCUMENTS: Shocking Revelations About Buhari by argon500(op): 10:26pm On Dec 30, 2014
A Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President, Reuben Abati, published an abstract from secret documents in his Twitter, exposing the information from Wikileaks about Buhari’s 1983-84 governing years.

The information is provided by the Public Library of United States Diplomacy through Wikileaks. The exposed classified letter is dated September 20, 2002. It reads in part:

Like President Obasanjo before the 1999 election, General Buhari’s political experience is limited to that of military Head of State. Buhari came to power as a result of a 1983 New Year’s Eve coup against the democratically elected Shehu Shagari. The eviction of Shagari came as a welcome relief as did Buhari’s promise to root out corruption. That relief, however, was short-lived as Nigerians watched despairingly as the Buhari regime’s promises to revive the economy and wipe out rampant corruption withered during 20 months of heavy-handed, largely ineffective rule.

In May 1984, Buhari ordered the brutal expulsion of 700,000 illegal immigrants from neighboring African states, jailed hundreds of political opponents and muzzled a once aggressive press. His loyalty to the military also came into question as he dismissed 30,000 soldiers as a cost-cutting measure. Buhari also soured Nigeria’s relations with Britain, when he was accused of masterminding a clumsy and unsuccessful attempt in July 1984 to kidnap President Shagari’s brother-in-law, former Transport Minister Umaru Dikko. Moreover, Buhari undermined traditional rulers throughout Nigeria, slashing their benefits and questioning their authority.

PoliticsJonathan’s Performance In Transport Unprecedented – PDP by argon500(op): 7:04pm On Dec 30, 2014
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the performance of President Goodluck Jonathan in the Transport and Aviation sectors as unprecedented.
PDP National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh in a statement on Tuesday said the party and, indeed, all well-meaning Nigerians are happy with the on-going transformation in these key sectors that support greater economic productivity in the country.
“Under President Jonathan, rail services have returned, boosting not only commerce but also national integration. Today, the Lagos-Ibadan- Osogbo-Ilorin-Minna-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano narrow gauge has been rehabilitated with improved fast coaches providing regular services. The Enugu-Port Harcourt-Enugu intercity train has been opened for operations while container cargo freight services from Apapa port complex have commenced.
“Already, rehabilitation works on the Port Harcourt-Aba-Umuahia-Enugu-Markurdi-Lafia-Kuru-Bauchi-Gombe-Ashaka-Maiduguri, as well as the branch line from Kafanchan to Kaduna are at completion stages and will be operational soon.
“In the same vein, work on the Abuja-Kaduna standard gauge rail line has reached advanced stage and is expected to become operational in the first quarter of 2015. This is in addition to the Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri standard gauge line, which is projected to resume full operation by the middle of 2015.
“Other segments of the new standard gauge speed train network are planned, with contract already awarded for the Lagos–Ibadan segment. Already, a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of a new railway line that will run from Lagos to Calabar, extending to the Obudu Cattle Ranch has been signed.
“Passengers carried by rail has increased from 1 million in 2012 to 4.2 million in 2013 and still growing with the opening of new lines in 2014.
“On land transportation, the investment friendly environment created by the Jonathan administration has resulted in increased participation of private individuals and companies in road mass transit, including those funded through SURE-P and other financing windows, thereby reducing the land transport challenges faced by Nigerians”, the statement said.
Giving an overview of the achievements in the water transport sector, the PDP noted that “the dredging of the River Escavos and the Niger from Warri to Baro in Niger State and the inland city ports in Onitsha have since been completed to create the much desired inland water channel for movement of personnel and goods.
“This is in addition to the acceleration of the dredging work at the Lokoja axis and the opening of coastal transport services. In the last three years, over 6.7 million passengers and over 1.6 million tonnes of cargo have been moved through this channel.
“In the same vein, extensive port reforms by the administration have paved the way for availability of twenty-four hour services with clearing time reduced from 39 days to 7 days for trouble-free cargo.
“On Aviation, it is incontrovertible that this sector, which in the past was denied desired attention has been revamped and repositioned by President Jonathan.
“In line with the President’s Transformation Agenda, the Aviation ministry and its parastatals were immediately restructured while obsolete infrastructure were either replaced or upgraded in all the major airports across the country in line with international best practices.
“Under the Jonathan administration, all 22 federally-owned airports across the country were remodeled to ensure safety and improved passenger services. Five new Airport Terminal Buildings and air-field facilities have been constructed while existing ones are being reconstructed. These efforts have received global acknowledgement including the attainment and retention of the FAA Category One Status.”
Noting that President Jonathan has been championing a silent revolution in all sectors of the Nigerian economy, the PDP urged the citizens not to allow a relapse to the past by ensuring that the Jonathan administration is supported beyond 2015. It said such is the only way to guarantee that the successes so far recorded are sustained and consolidated.

PoliticsHow APC, Obasanjo, Tinubu Plot To Make Osinbajo Another Jonathan by argon500(op): 4:12pm On Dec 30, 2014
Indications emerged on Sunday why the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) was initially keen on fielding a Muslim/Muslim candidate for the 2015 presidential election.

Despite the fact that its former member and one-time Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode raised an alarm on the issue earlier in 2014, top APC chieftains still tried to sell the idea which was rejected by many Nigerians and even APC members.

APC national leader and former Lagos State governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his successor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, former Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the party’s presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (all Muslims) among others, at one time or the other, insisted there was nothing wrong with same-religion ticket.

A point the APC and those who believed in the controversial game plan gave as reference, was that since Nigeria remains an indivisible entity, a Muslim/Muslim ticket was no big deal.

They were also quick to use the 1993 presidential election, where Chief M.K.O. Abiola contested along with Baba Gana Kingibe on the Social Democratic Party (SDP) platform as a reference.

APC and its kingmakers would later bow to pressure and the noise generated by the Muslim/Muslim ticket reduced with the emergence of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor, as the running mate to Gen. Buhari.

But more reasons on why the APC was desperate to have a Muslim from South-West have surfaced, as a source confided in DAILY POST that the politics that shrouded the insistence by Tinubu to present either himself or a loyal Muslim candidate was more than what was visible to the eyes of Nigerians.

According to him, a major reason behind the Muslim/Muslim ticket was to have Nigeria’s presidency be within the grasp of the South-West region in the event Buhari finds it difficult to carry on as the nation’s leader.

Buhari’s health scare

Our source, knowledgeable of happenings within the corridors of power, Aso Rock, said there is a security report concerning the health of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, the APC presidential standard bearer.

The report, he told DAILY POST, shows that the 72 year-old former Head of State may not live more than a year or two if he assumes office as Nigeria’s President in 2015.

“Many people think the presidency or the PDP is trying to portray Buhari in a bad light or declare him unfit for the nation’s topmost job but the information I am giving you is authentic”, he alleged.

Asked to provide specifics of the content of the security report to back up his claim, the source said: “A part of it goes thus: Should Buhari win, he may not be able to complete a single four-year tenure due to his health condition; he has continued to manage his health secretly.

“Let me ask you these questions: Why do you think Tinubu was ready to risk a Muslim/Muslim ticket? Why do you think he presented himself at the eleventh hour when talks were on to pick Buhari’s running mate? When he failed in his quest, why do you think he picked his associate of 20 years?”

“The truth is that Tinubu and his cohorts know that the demands of office will tell on Buhari and same will either kill him or weigh him down excessively,” the source added.

North not backing Buhari

The source further told DAILY POST that powers that be in the North are not comfortable with the choice of Buhari.

“Look, many eminent personalities in the North are not supporting Buhari’s candidature because they also know this fact.

“They are aware that Buhari may not see 2019, so they don’t want to gamble. We all know there exists a Northern cabal and these guys will rather wait for President Jonathan to complete his eight years and hand over to them. They want eight years too!

“So, they have agreed not to throw their weight behind Buhari, who may not even see four years through. The North do not want a repetition of the Yar’ Adua saga; they are being very careful.

“This is because if anything happens to Buhari, power will return to the South, South-West for that matter and this may happen less than a decade after Baba Obasanjo left Aso Rock.

“Not just that, power will effectively be in the hands of Bola Tinubu because Osinbajo is his confirmed stooge. Can you now see all these indices? Now, who in his or her right senses would believe that the North are backing Buhari. Certainly, not the North I know”.

The Obasanjo angle

DAILY POST also gathered that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is in the know of the permutation being worked out by Tinubu.

“Some Nigerians are so gullible”, our source said.

“What do you think Tinubu was going to do in Obasanjo’s house in Ota? To eat eba and vegetable soup?” He quipped rhetorically.

“He was part of the grand plan for Buhari to win APC presidential primary because they know he won’t last. He is on a mission, alongside the APC, to retain power in the South.

“They are planning to short-change the North again and the Arewa hierarchy have uncovered the plot. Like I said before, many prominent Northern leaders have taken a decision not to endorse the Buhari’s and an APC presidency because they also have access to the security report on his health.

“Obasanjo is aware of the document; Tinubu too. So they know very well what they are doing.”

DAILY POST had earlier gathered that President Goodluck Jonathan allegedly raised the issue of Buhari candidacy vis-à-vis his age and health during his homage to former Head of State, Ibrahim Badamosi Banagida.

Jonathan had on Saturday visited IBB at his Hilltop mansion in Minna, Niger State.

On his entourage were National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki; his Chief of Staff, Gen. Jones Arogbofa; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Muhammed; former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi and Senator Ahmadu Ali, among others.

Jonathan, who canvassed support for his reelection ambition, was said to have appealed to his host to reach out to influential Northern leaders to back his 2015 bid.

The president also reportedly reiterated his promise to hand over power to a Northerner in 2019.

Efforts to get the reaction of the APC national publicity secretary, Lai Mohammed, on the purported health report on Buhari were futile.

He did not pick callls to his mobile line on Sunday and Monday.

DAILY POST, however, got through to APC South-East spokesman, Osita Okechukwu, Monday evening.

Okechukwu dismissed the claim on Buhari’s health as false and a way to cause doubts about the APC presidential candidate.

He said: “it’s not up to a month that we (APC) held a rally at the Eagle Square. From there, we walked to Transcorp Hilton, then to Police Headquarters and back to the Eagle Square. While some of us were panting, Gen. Buhari surprisingly did not. In fact, he walked faster than most of us.

“They are only trying to dig up what is non-existent; no record of their claim. The General has his doctor and anyone can contact him rather than speculate”.

“Some of us have been with him since 2002 and we know he is healthy. They are bringing this up now because they know Buhari has 60 percent chance at the polls,” the spokesman said in veiled reference to the PDP.

Continuing, Okechukwu assured that “Gen. Buhari is fit as a fiddle. Please disregard the news; it is deceptive and meant to douse his ever-growing profile.

“They are worried he has been accepted nationwide and even President Goodluck Jonathan, who is Buhari’s de facto campaign manager, cannot match his popularity and wide acceptance”.

Romance12 Things You Should Never Ever Have To Do For Love by argon500(op): 9:21am On Dec 26, 2014
Meat Loaf may have been on to something when he sang: "I would do anything for love, but I won't do that." Now, we understand that a mature relationship requires a healthy dose of sacrifice and compromise, but too much of that and you could lose sight of who you really are.
No matter how much you love someone, there's nothing wrong with putting your foot down every once in a while—even if we're just talking about picking something to watch on Netflix. So check out these 13 things no one should ever have to do for love:

1. Get a Questionable Tattoo
Since when does proving your love require needles and permanent ink? We get that your love is supposed to be just as long lasting as the tattoo, but come on, let's just have some good faith and keep the branding to a minimum.

2. Foot the Bill ALL. The. Time.
We are all for powerful women who can support themselves, but that doesn't mean you have to support your date every single time you go out. Plus, let's be honest, it's nice to be wined and dined every once in a while.

3. Do Weird Sex Stuff
...Unless you want to. Hey, experimenting is awesome and clutch in any good sex life, but if you're so not into something, speak up.

4. Pretend You Don't Have Certain Bodily Functions
We get that it seems gross at first, but eventually every couple has to get used to the not-so-sexy side of your body. He can't expect you to hold that in all night every night for the rest of your life! That's how you get a stomachache... "I was under the impression that girls never farted".

5. Watch Dumb and Dumber over and over and over again.
It was funny the first 20 times, but now it's just old. Just because we don't love your favorite movie doesn't mean we don't love you.

6. Miss Your Favorite Show
We will not part with our Housewives or our Bachelorette, so he'll just have to jump on the bandwagon or leave the room. Besides, any male that pretends he isn't the slightest bit entertained by this stuff is fooling himself.

7. Adopt Their Crazy Hobby
They like to fish? Great! Paintball? Uh, sure, let's try it! Cliff diving? OK, no, stop. If they have a hobby that you have less than zero interest in, there is no harm in saying "See ya when you get back!"

8. Spend Every Single Holiday with Their Family
There is only so much you can take of his drunk Aunt Ruth. Plus, it's only fair to take turns seeing each of your folks every year.

9. Change Your Diet
That's fantastic that you're vegan, but...I love cheese. Seriously, if you change your diet, it should be because you want to. No one should come between a woman and her food.

10. Give Up Your Dog Because They're Allergic
Nope, sorry, Skip was here first and we've been through some very real stuff together. Plus, there are medications for that!

11. Trash Your Wardrobe
No partner should pressure you to dress in a way that just isn't you—especially if you love your clothes. A few tweaks here and there are one thing, but a complete wardrobe overhaul is out of the question. (Unless the cast of What Not to Wear shows up at your place of work. Then he's probably on to something.)

12. Betray Your Home Team
If you and your man happen to be fans of opposing teams, don’t let him convince you to switch sides. Besides, a little rivalry can be hot...

PoliticsYou’ve Made A Career Of Lying – Soyinka Jabs Obasanjo by argon500(op): 10:13pm On Dec 25, 2014
Nobel Prize-winning poet and playwright, Wole Soyinka has delivered to scathing response to Olusegun Obasanjo on comments made by the former Nigerian President about Professor Soyinka in his new book “My Watch.” Mr. Obasanjo had belittled Prof. Soyinka’s political expertise saying: “He is surely a better wine connoisseur and a more successful “aparo” (guinea fowl) hunter than a political critic, not to talk of what he would do as a politician…I take him seriously on almost all issues except on the political particularly Nigerian politics.”

But in a treatise, titled Watch and Pray, Watch and Prey, Soyinka labelled the former president an “infantile career liar.” According to Soyinka, Obasanjo was“a seasoned predator on others’ achievements – he preys on their names, their characters, their motivations, their true lives, preys on gossip and preys on facts, preys on contributions to collective undertakings…even preys on their identities, substituting his own where possible. Well, hopefully he may actually believe in the inevitable End to all vanities?”

Read Soyinka’s treatise here:
“I had fully attuned myself to the fact that our Owu retiree soldier and prolific author is an infliction that those of us who share the same era and nation space must learn to endure. However, it does appear that there is no end to this individual’s capacity for infantile mischief, and for needless, mind-boggling provocations, such as his recent ‘literary’ intrusion on my peace. Perhaps I ought to interrupt myself here with an apology to some mutual acquaintances – ‘blessed peacemakers’ and all – especially in this season of ‘peace and goodwill to all men’. Please know that your efforts have not been entirely in vain. I had a cordial exchange with Obasanjo over the phone recently – engineered by himself, his ground staff and/or a chance visitor – when I had cause to visit his Presidential Laundromat for the first time ever. During that exchange, I complemented him on making some quite positive use of landed property that was acquired under morally dubious circumstances, and blatantly developed through a process that I denounced as ‘executive extortionism’. That obscene proceeding has certainly set a competitive precedent for impunity in President Jonathan’s recent fund-raising shindig, editorialized in The Punch (December 23, 2014) as “Impunity Taken too Far”. So much for the latest from that direction – we mustn’t allow Handing-Over notes between presidents to distract us for too long.

Politics$30billion Excess Crude Fund Unaccounted For -- Oshiomhole by argon500(op): 9:55pm On Dec 25, 2014
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state has accused the Federal Government of failing to account for about $30billion that have accrued to Nigeria’s excess crude account in the last three years.
Mr. Oshiomhole made the allegation Thursday when he received members of the Association of Enegies from Edo South who paid him a courtesy call at Government House, Benin, the Edo state capital.
The governor said Nigeria’s budgets for the past three years have been based on the average of $77 and $79, while the average price of the country’s crude has been $108 per barrel, which gives an average surplus of $30 per barrel.
“Ideally, we ought to be saving $36 per barrel on the 2.3 million barrel a day over the past three years and if you look at these numbers you will find that what we have in our excess crude oil account should be over $30billion but as we speak, we have barely $3 billon in our excess crude account,” he said.
Mr. Oshiomphole also wondered why the Excess crude Account is presently almost empty when proceeds from the account have not been shared for18 months now.
“Over the past 18 months, we have not shared the excess crude account and yet, the account is empty. Sometimes we are told they have taken money from it to fund subsidies including subsidy on kerosene but your royal highnesses, there is nowhere in your various domains where kerosene is sold for N50. So in the name of subsidy, large sums of money are being stolen.
“Things are tough now around the country because the Federal Government mismanaged our national resources and what is being stolen, nobody agrees it is being stolen. What is arguable is who is responsible for this stealing. When the Federal Government and the President talk about oil theft and the amount that is allegedly stolen is huge such that whereas we have the capacity to produce about 2.4 million barrels a day, what accrues into the federal government account is less than 1.8 million barrel a day.
“From the last time we had a meeting, the handouts they distributed shows that sometime for a period of two weeks, we were losing as much as 700,000 barrels a day and that has been on for the past 12 years. I am not able to understand why, suddenly, Nigeria cannot protect its territorial waters because the boundaries have not changed and the people are still the same and at the peak of the so-called militancy, we were still exporting about 2 million barrels a day,” he said.
The governor also wondered why the country is still losing so much to oil theft even after the issue of militancy in the Niger Delta has been addressed and ex-militants rehabilitated with some even awarded contracts.
“To the best of my knowledge, there is no major known person who has been prosecuted and convicted for oil theft in a way that reflects the magnitude of what is allegedly stolen,” he said.
The Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, FAAC, meeting for November had ended in confusion on December 16 as representatives of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory accused the federal government of not accounting for about $1billion(N168 billion) of excess crude oil money.
The Chairman of State Commissioners of Finance, Timothy Odaah, told reporters after the meeting that no state knew how the $1 billion difference reported in the Excess Crude Account balance, between October and November, came about.
The Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, later said the $1 billion said to be missing was used by the Federal Government to settle debts to petroleum products marketers.
Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala did however not say why the Federal Government dipped its hand in the ECA without the knowledge or consent of the 36 states.
The FAAC meeting is a monthly gathering of state finance commissioners and the federal finance ministry and the Accountant General of the federation, where federal oil receipts are shared between the federal and state authorities.
With falling oil price, the 36 states have turned more attention on the Excess Crude Account, which has depleted from more than $40 billion in 2007 to about $4 billion in 2014.
Consequences of profligacy
Governor Oshiomhole said Nigeria is presently suffering from dwindling oil prices because the country failed to save for the rainy day.
He said such inability to save is what has led to the devaluation of the Naira.
“Already as low as N180 per dollar and I believe by February when the elections are over, nobody is going to want to hold the naira. Wherever the election goes, I expect that the naira will hit over N200 per dollar. The inflationary consequence of that is prices of everything will go up and part of the vicious cycle of the devalued naira in the manner that is being done is that the price of petroleum products imported in dollars will go up in naira and government will be asking people who are already poor to pay more money for petroleum products.
“I see this vicious cycle setting in and people are likely to get poorer and that will lead to more tension and we already have our fair share of insecurity,” he said.
Mr. Oshiomhole admonished the visiting royal fathers to pray for the country.
“The year that is coming is going to be a very tough one. Pray for Nigeria, 2015 will be tough,” he said.
On their part, the traditional rulers, who spoke through the Ogiegbaen of Egbaen, commended the governor for his efforts at developing the state, even as they pledged to continue supporting his administration.
