I was able to reach a conclusion about some things being natural in this life. I never spend Valentine's day with my girlfriend. Though I didn't see as something weird but the way people reacted whenever we talked something like that always got me confused. What is the big deal about being with your girlfriend on Valentine's day? I just don't get it.. I am in my early 30's. I always believe the first girl to spend that special day with should be someone to call my wife.. Note: I didn't intend not to spend the day with any of my girl, I always try but things always come up. 2 years ago, I prepared and planned for it. I told my girlfriend I will come around later in the day to be with her, behold, I was far away snoring after bottles of wine. Actually, that is my tradition on every Feb 14th. Last year, we had a misunderstanding 3 weeks to the Val's day. Is it normal or just natural? |
As representatives of 21 Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] governors mounted the rostrum Saturday night at the presidential villa in Abuja to announce N1.05 billion in donation to the PDP, back in their respective states, school teachers and other state workers were enduring their second or third month of work without pay. In some states, the indebtedness to workers stretched a year. In Ebonyi, authorities owed teachers under the Universal Basic Education scheme nearly 12 months of salaries. In Abia State, secondary school teachers were last paid in August, while primary school teachers have been owed since October. In Akwa Ibom State, the nation’s leading oil producer which draws more than triple of what other states receive from the federation account monthly, local government staff were on strike. Before the strike, they were forced to receive half salaries for several months, while authorities claimed they had no money. In Cross River, the situation had worsened after months of indebtedness that state-run television, the Cross River Broadcasting Corporation, CRBC, shut off production last week. The station remains off air till date. Other staff fortunate to have received reasonably up-to-date pay, have yet to be paid for November. But on Saturday night, Cross State governor, Liyel Imoke, stood next to his Bauchi State colleague, Isa Yuguda, as Mr. Yuguda announced to a gleeful president and a shocked nation how the 21 governors who had been struggling to pay salaries long before the present oil crisis, rallied N50 million each in donation to the PDP. “We may do more in future, but that is what we were able to raise for now,” Mr. Yuguda assured. In all, the PDP and the president raked in over N21 billion, with donations coming from government contractors, nameless associates, and Tunde Ayeni, the head of Skye Bank, who has bought a string of government assets, including the mega telecoms carrier, NITEL/MTEL, in a process that has already become controversial. On Monday, Arabian Amlak Investment Limited, one of the 22 companies that bid for NITEL, filed a legal challenge, saying the Nigerian government, through the Bureau of Public Enterprises, deliberately skewed the privatisation process to favour Mr. Ayeni’s company. As chairman of the PDP fund raiser, Mr. Ayeni donated N2 billion. He announced that he was donating N1 billion on behalf of himself and an unnamed partner, and another two billion on behalf of his friends. After a while, Mr. Ayeni returned to the podium to announce another donation of half a billion naira on behalf of himself and other players in the country’s power sector. A former Information Minister, Jerry Gana, announced a donation of N5 billion, again, on behalf of his unnamed friends and associates in the power sector. Other major donors were oil and gas operators– N5 billion; players in Real Estate and Building – N4 billion; Transport and Aviation – N 1billion; Food and Agriculture – N500 million; Power – N500 million; Construction – N310 million; Road Construction – N250 million; National Automotive Association – N450 million; Shelter Development Limited – N250 million; and SIFAX group – N100 million. But the governors’ donations stood out for many reason, including the fact that workers in many of their states remain without pay for months even with Christmas and New Year around the corner. In Plateau State, under Jonah Jang, workers are currently owed three months of pay. In Ondo State, Governor Olusegun Mimiko has also failed to pay secondary school teachers and other categories of workers for the last three months. In Benue State, workers have been at a longstanding confrontation with the governor, Gabriel Suswam, who has yet to pay them for months. In Abia State, led by Theordore Orji, beside secondary school teachers who were last paid in August, and primary school teachers, last paid in October, secondary school teachers told PREMIUM TIMES on Monday they have not received leave allowances in the last five years. In Enugu State, civil servants are yet to be paid for November, more than three weeks into the new month. Workers who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES said in past years, the culture was that by now, they would have been paid for December. On Monday, labour union leaders in the state gave the state governor, Sullivan Chime, a 21-day ultimatum to clear salary backlog and resolve other pending issues relating to staff welfare or face strike. A statement signed by Igbokwe Igbokwe, the state Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC), and the chairmen and secretaries of all labour unions in the state, vowed to commence an indefinite strike January 15, 2015, if the demands are not met. Akwa Ibom’s case remains one of the most intriguing given the amount the state draws monthly. While other states receive an average of N5billion, Akwa Ibom and Rivers State receive as much as N25 billion monthly as federal allocation. Still, state workers and pensioners have not received pay for several months, and local government workers are currently on strike. While the state is not directly responsible for paying local government workers, all states in the country operate a compulsory joint account with local governments, and disbursement of local government funds are carried out by the governors. Bukola Saraki, former governor of Kwara state who played a major role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is “good stead” to lead the senate if his party forms the majority in the upper chamber after the 2015 elections. Because of the role he played in leading a break-away group from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC, Saraki, TheCable understands, has secured an understanding with major leaders in the party to be supported for senate presidency in the event that the opposition wins power. Saraki, a serving senator, had given up his presidential ambition this year, saying he wanted to avoid a possible rancour after the party’s primary with too many aspirants in the race. But TheCable was informed that his permutations actually changed when Muhammadu Buhari declared his interest in the race and all seemed set for the former head of state to pick the party’s ticket. Another source said it was Bola Tinubu, the national leader of APC, who persuaded Saraki to target senate presidency instead of going into a contest against Buhari, the favoured candidate. But perhaps the biggest factor counting in Saraki’s favour is that of the four big platforms that formed APC, the New PDP group ─ which he belonged ─ has not got any major position in the new arrangement. Buhari came from the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), which is like a splinter group from the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), while Yemi Osinbajo is from Tinubu’s Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). The national working committee of the APC is also dominated by ACN, leaving the New PDP with marginal positions. Others from the New PDP group, such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, governor of Kano, and Rotimi Amaechi, governor of Rivers, lost out in the presidential arrangement. While Kwankwaso was defeated in the presidential race, Amaechi who had been targeting vice-presidency lost out to Osinbajo, a professor of law, who was nominated by Tinubu. APC unofficially zoned the presidency to the north and the vice-presidency to the south, but with the south-west picking the vice-presidential slot, the north-central (where Saraki comes from), the south-south and the south-east will now have to fight for the No 3. and No. 4 positions: senate presidency and speakership. The party has not officially taken any position on this, but with Amaechi not running for senate, the south-south may not be favoured for senate presidency. APC is not considered strong in the south-south and the south-east, but it is growing in influence in the north-central states of Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa and Benue ─ a factor that may determine which zone picks the No. 3 position. However, since 2007, senate presidency has been in the north-central, with David Mark (PDP) occupying the position and he is on course to returning to the senate for an unbroken fifth term. Saraki was the governor of Kwara state between 2003 and 2011, and sought the presidential ticket of the PDP in 2011 but lost out to Atiku Abubakar in the “northern consensus” arrangement. Saraki’s ally, Abubakar Baraje, was the chairman of the break-away New PDP, which later merged with APC. Source: http://www.thecable.ng/2015-saraki-favoured-senate-president… |
At least 75 Boko Haram fighters were killed by Nigerian troops on Wednesday during a clash with the insurgents in Borno, security sources, and Power Holding Company of Nigeria staff have said. SaharaReporters gathered that over hundred Boko Haram fighters stormed Bulaburin village to attack military men who escorted PHCN staff to repair power installations that were destroyed by insurgents six months ago in Damboa. The militants came in a convoy of Hilux vehicles and motorcycles but met heavy resistance, a military source said. A PHCN staff on assignment in the area told SaharaReporters that the military killed up to 75 militants during the encounter. He added, "I am happy today because it would have been a black day for us at Bulaburin. We went to repair Maiduguri electrical infrastructure which had been shut down by militants since July as we were working we started hearing sporadic gun shots, so the troops fought back. However, the intense fight affected our vehicles; we drove to Maiduguri on flat tyres" he said. A security source told our reporter that the soldiers at the scene were at alerted immediately they were hinted that the Boko Haram were coming to attack them. "Our soldiers climbed the telecom mast to see them, and behold they were coming in large numbers in Hilux pick up vans, motorcycles and cars. The soldiers waited for them, and when they came, they attacked them immediately," the security source said. The Ekiti state governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja, on Friday affirmed the return of Governor Ayodele Fayose as the winner of the governorship election conducted by the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, last June. The panel held that the witnesses paraded by the petitioner were unable to adduce concrete evidence to support the claims of corrupt practices at the polling units and that their testimonies did not support such claims that the election did not comply substantially with the provisions of the Electoral Act. “The testimonies of these witnesses are unsatisfactory and their inability to give the names of the polling units as well as the names of their agents at those unnamed polling units shows that most of them that gave evidence of these alleged non compliance did not vote at the election as such their testimonies failed to support their claims. None of them gave evidence on the improper accreditation or manipulation of accreditation. The petitioner failed to substantiate the allegation of improper accreditation or non accreditation of voters “ The panel also held that failure of the petitioner to produce witnesses from most of the polling units to substantiate the allegation of improper and or non accreditation of voters at the polling units damaged the substance of the petition. Similarly it rejects the claim of the APC that the election was systematically and scientifically conducted by the use of indelible photo chronic and vanishing inks that fades within minutes in such a way to favour the emergence of the PDP candidate at the election. The panel also held that as at the time Fayose declared his interest to contest the Ekiti state Governorship election, that the All Progressives Congress, APC, was aware of his alleged disqualification and that the issue was already being canvassed before an Ekiti state high court before the election which makes the issue a pre election matter which the election petition tribunal does not have the jurisdiction to entertain. And thereafter struck out that ground of the APC’s petition. Similarly, the panel held that section 19 and 20 of the Electoral Act provides for the display of the voters register 30 days to the election and noted that a diligent political party ought to have complained against any failure by the electoral umpire to comply with that provision and insist that the issue of contravention of code of conduct, like the issue of Fayose’s non qualification, falls within those issues considered as pre election issues, and subsequently struct out that ground of the petition in favour of the PDP and Fayose. On the inclusion of the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Army Staff in the petition, the tribunal held that they are not necessary parties in the petition as they are not included in the provisions of section 137(2) and (3) of the Electoral Act where the classes of respondents in an election petition are listed and held that election petition matters are special proceedings which do not support the importation of persons not covered in the laws and further maintained that no single reliefs was claimed against the IGP or the COAS and thereafter struck their names from the petition. The tribunal also struck out a greater chunk of the paragraphs of the petition on the ground that those paragraphs where made up of imprecise statements like “officers and men of the armed forces”, “agents of the PDP”, “harassment of the supporters of the petitioners”, “arresting of key supporters and chieftains of the petitioner” which had no names, descriptions or proper identifications of those persons who the petitioners are referring. The panel held that those paragraphs are nebulous, speculative, not clear and confusing, and pointed out that the petitioners failed to provide the names of the polling units, where such harassment and intimidation of their supporters took place. Adeyinka Grandson wrote; 1. Vice President Atiku under President Obasanjo was reduced to an international felon. 2. Vice President Jonathan under President Yar'Adua was reduced to Aso Rock Newspaper vendor. 3. Vice President Sambo under President Jonathan is more or less a dunce. 4. Then how is Pastor Prof. Yemi Osinbajo going to amount to anything for the Yoruba as Buhari's Deputy? Buhari as President of Nigeria will only appoint Gambari to take care of the ministry of: Finance, Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Communication, Petroleum, Education, Internal Affairs, Sport, CBN, etc. What exactly is Osinbajo going to perform for the Yoruba as Vice President? Absolutely nothing at all. Gambari Atiku, fought Obasanjo for 8 years in an attempt to carry over as President of Nigeria. For more than five years now, Gambari have been using Boko Haram to bomb the core North in an attempt to take over from Jonathan, yet they have the position of the Vice President already. Osinbajo, a professor of law, is not only an idiot for beholden to a primary school certificate holder, Mr Buhari, he would have been assassinated if as a white American professor beholden to a black American school dropout with all his academic qualifications and career exposures. |

• Nigeria’s UN Security Council seat, oil blocks may favour Russia • Jonathan to sign deal in Moscow this month • Both countries to collaborate on satellite systems In its bid to successfully prosecute the war against the Boko Haram insurgency after an alliance with the United States seemed to have failed, the Federal Government has opened discussions with Russia in an attempt to secure a $1billion loan from a Russian bank, aimed at purchasing arms and ammunitions. The money, said to be coming from a bank linked with the Kremlin, the Russian seat of power, is meant for the purchase of Russian-made combat helicopter gunships and other lethal combat equipment, including fighter jets, which had been a herculean task to obtain from the US. The Federal Government had last week severed an agreement with the US, which was meant to train Nigerian soldiers on combat operations, after Nigeria accused the US of not doing enough to assist in combating the Boko Haram insurgency. If the new deal sails through, Nigeria’s geopolitical flip to Russia will be a major shift, and will surely reduce the depth of influence by the US and the United Kingdom over a major sub-region of the world. According to reports released on its website, Damina Advisors, a London-based global political risk consulting firm, President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to visit Moscow before the end of the year to seal the four-part deal, if ongoing negotiations are successful. Confirming the development, a presidency source told Newswatch Times that the US had repeatedly blocked the sale of weapons to Nigeria by western countries, leading to the latest option. The Federal Government, Newswatch Times further learnt, had to result to this urgent measure, after several pleas to the US and UK for lethal weapons and helicopter gunships to fight the terror group failed. Some government officials had been lamenting that the US was frustrating Nigeria’s efforts in purchasing arms, leading to a recent cancellation of a military training agreement between both countries. Russia, presently battling with sanctions from US and Europe, is said to be in a hurry to expand its global frontiers, and increase leverage over other major oil producers, while finding new markets for its sanctioned local arms manufacturers. The source also noted that Russia had, in recent weeks, engaged in high-level talks over a multibillion dollar arms deal and technical advisory mission to help the Goodluck Jonathan administration defeat Boko Haram. According to Damina Advisors, the first part of the deal starts when Nigeria takes its seat on the UN Security Council in early 2015. “Rather than traditionally siding with the US and Europe on major matters of international peace and security, the major African nation will now switch sides, and side with Russia on key votes, or at least remain neutral and deprive the traditional Western allies of major African geopolitical support. “Secondly, Nigeria, which boasts an annual military budget of over $2billion, most of which goes to pay salaries, will secure a $1billion loan from a Russian bank linked to the Kremlin to purchase several Russian-made combat helicopter gunships and other lethal combat equipment, including possibly fighter planes. The source continued: “Additionally, Russian military advisors will be deployed to Nigeria to assist the military high command on counter-terror tactics. “Thirdly, Russia’s oil giant, Rosneft, might be given some oil blocks in Nigeria, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) will agree to sell millions of tons of crude oil annually to Rosneft, in a deal that will allow Rosneft to strengthen its overall global oil portfolio and increase its oil price bargaining power vis-à-vis Saudi Arabia. “Also with the election of Nigeria to the presidency of OPEC, Russia’s unofficial influence within OPEC is strong via allies Angola, Venezuela, Algeria, and Nigeria will become more pronounced if the arms deal under discussion is consummated. “Fourthly, with Russia seeking new host countries for its GLONASS global positioning satellite systems, and Nigeria seeking to improve its own aerial satellite surveillance of the nearly 20 per cent of the north-eastern territory terrorized by Boko Haram, the deal will also see Nigeria join Brazil and Argentina, among other countries, who have agreed to have Russian GLONASS earth-based sub-stations on their territories. The Federal Government had last week said the training of Nigerian soldiers by the US military was cancelled due to the absence of some logistic components needed for the training, after the US embassy revealed cancellation. According to a statement released by the US Embassy in Abuja, the cancellation was at the behest of the Goodluck Jonathan administration. “At the request of the Nigerian government, the United States will discontinue its training of a Nigerian Army battalion. “Based on mutual assessment of the Nigerian Army and US trainers, a third iteration of training was agreed upon with the intent of developing the battalion into a unit with advanced infantry skills. “We regret premature termination of this training, as it was to be the first in a larger planned project that would have trained additional units with the goal of helping the Nigerian Army build capacity to counter Boko Haram,” the statement added. But in a swift reaction, the Federal Government replied, giving reasons for the action. According to the Coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mr. Mike Omeri, the US trainers depended on Nigerian military hardware, which is currently deployed in the North East to fight Boko Haram, hence, the finally phase of the three-phase training had to be cancelled. “The training that is being mentioned were supposed to be in three phases, two phases have been concluded, the next phase requires some logistical components, and I don’t think it’s wise to take equipment from the field and keep them in Jaji for training when our soldiers out there need the equipment. “The training that is being offered by the American government did not also come with the equipment component, so if our soldiers need the same equipment, and you all know the status of our stock, we will not withdraw everything and go for training when we have need for it on the field,” he said. Hello Nairalander, Please I would be coming back to the country next week and I am looking for an hostel to stay for a month or two.. I do not mean student hostel, I mean a place like an hotel but more cheaper than hotel.. Hostels provide budget-oriented, sociable accommodation where guests can rent a bed, usually a bunk bed, in a dormitory and share a bathroom, lounge and sometimes a kitchen. Rooms can be mixed or single-sex, although private rooms may also be available. Hostels are generally cheaper for both the operator and the occupants; many hostels have long-term residents whom they employ as desk clerks or housekeeping staff in exchange for free accommodation. Please I would be glad if you can share with me if you know of any hostel around Lagos or any contact. Thanks |
The op must be a lady.. she is expecting Christmas clothe from her bf... mtcheeeew |
Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Timi Frank, was, on Wednesday, detained by men of the Department of State Security Service (DSS) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on arrival from France. Frank told journalists that he was detained by security agents at the Immigration point at the airport for over one hour and was later released without anybody saying anything to him. He said: “I arrived Abuja International Airport at about 5pm on Tuesday on my way from Paris, France. At the Immigration point where they normally stamp the passport, I was stopped by a lady who walked to me with three others in mufti. “As soon as I dropped my passport, she ceased the passport and asked me to move aside. I asked why and she said it was an instruction which I must obey. “As a law abiding citizen, I obeyed and moved aside. Without telling me anything, she took me to where other security agents were sitting and said I should sit there, and asked the other SSS people there to keep me in their custody until she gets further clearance. “I asked the man sitting beside me why I was being treated like a member of Boko Haram. So, I have decided to let Nigerians know that as we get closer to the 2015 elections, there is a form of crackdown on some opposition leaders by the security agencies, including the SSS who are now being used to harass and intimidate opposition leaders in Nigeria. “This maybe the first step. For me, it may be a small one, but I can assure you that this is another strategy they have adopted to intimidate opposition leaders. Let me also assure you that no amount of intimidation from security agents will stop me. “Despite being the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, I am also an activist. I have been talking and fighting for the rights of Nigerians. I have been fighting against corruption in this country. “No amount of intimidation from the SSS or any other security agency will stop me from speaking and not even the Presidency. As I speak, this is a very serious issue. My life is under threat and it is very important to let you know.” Source: Daily Independent. |
