So what program do you suggest? I thought project management cuts across all professions.
The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is more highly regarded than a PGD in project management and CIC knows that you can easily get a PMP here in Nigeria and so might not find it a credible enough reason to go abroad for study. I think you should go with haquinsbfx suggestion of an Agric programme. Is there any reason why you don't want to go for a Masters?

If there is a quota it will come from the schools limiting the number of foreign students to be admitted in a year and they will not issue admission when the number is reached. It makes no sense that the school will give admission to a prospective student knowing fully well that the student chances of getting a visa is almost nonexistent. Not only that...the student will waste time and money applying for TRV that he or she is unlikely to get.
Hmm...Superior Argument. CASE CLOSED! smiley People's High bp generated in the last 24 hours can now start normalizing.

I don't think that is the case. If they wanted to know how much money you had after medical request, they would request you submit a new account statement. Your bank would not disclose your account details to a third party without your consent. Personally, by the time I got the request for medicals my sponsor's account had been thoroughly depleted that if people were denied for that reason I would probably have been first in line.

I feel like time should not be spent speculating and guessing what the problem could be. Those affected should contact CIC immediately to get some clarification. Hopefully it was a mistake. But if not, they would get a better sense of where the problem may have come from.
Spot on!

Go for a post graduate course. You'll stand a better chance of getting a visa with that than with another degree.

please all i like to study in canada, i applied to sait for bachelor of applied technology in petroleum engineering for winter 2016, the status of my application is IN SELECTION. But i will love to apply to another school as a back up plan. i have a bachelor of engineering degree in mining engineering but graduated with a 2.2 reason i couldnt apply for masters. please advice
You should consider getting admission into a Masters, Post Graduate Diploma, or Post Graduate Certificate course instead on a Bachelor of Applied Technology. The Visa Officers seem to frown at one going for a degree that is equivalent to or less than one they already have.

I do think it's possible that you got your Trv approved already (as we all know, these people can be unusual sometimes) but there's still that other larger possibility of delay, given that you didn't even undergo any medical examination, it's there for a reason.

But I think what baffles me the most is the fact that you haven't even gone to pick up your documents by now, you're not even the least bit anxious.. that's amazing.
Great point! Been wondering what all the argument is about when it can easily be solved by him just going to pick up the parcel. undecided huh

My thanks all for your response and advice.

@Gabrola: my 1st degree is in Business administration, but I have a postgraduate and masters degree in education (all in administration)
My proposed course in Canada is Educational Leadership (M.ed).
Was just wondering why you are going for a Masters in a course kinda related to another course in which you already have a Masters? Have you considered going for a PhD in Education or an MBA since your first degree was in Biz Ad?

Good morning everybody, I want your take on this one I am 31 years old, I applied as a transfer student October last year to Brandon university Manitoba Canada to study management I have my ND, HND and NYSC certificate at hand and got admitted March 3rd this year. my maternal uncle is sponsoring my education. I finished service this year and I do no have a job of my own yet. my uncle has a steel company so he provided me with an affidavit of sponsorship, his company letter of incorporation from cac and his company statement of account for the pass four month with regular inflow and outflow of cash with total money debited of about 67million nd total money credited almost 72million and current balance of about 5.5million but the account runs everyday because it his company account. I used this and other relevant documents+ my letter of acceptance to apply online on the 19th of may nd I did my Biometrics on the 28th of may after then my tracking number was sent to me, I was sent a thank u message nd a message telling me dat my application has being forwarded to visa office Lagos and I received another message last month ending thanking me for my patient nd telling me that my cic account has not been undated since I last checked. when I tracked d application online it says dat my application is still being processed at d Canada visa office...pls house with all this what are my chances. thanks.
Ha-ahn? Bros!!!

Please house i need your in put here:-

I read Mass Communication {HND}, been working for long as a marketer and trainer in Stock Brokerage firm; how will the VO judge me when am applying for Public Relations-Corporate Communications?

My sister and a friend are my sponsors - my friends accounts is superior to that of my sister, who among them will be most suitable as the main sponsor?

Does the province where the school is, have any influence in the outcome of the Visa application?
As a marketer, you definitely relate with the public on behalf of your organization. The application process allows for you to upload a Letter of Explanation so use that to tie up Mass Comm to Marketing to Public Relations. I think it is quite easily explainable.

On sponsor, depends on how much each of them will state on their sponsorship letter as their contribution to your studies. For example, if your sister has N5m in her SOA and your friend has N7m, and your fees & living expenses are N5m, then your sister can state in her affidavit and letter of sponsorship that she will commit N3m and your friend states that she will commit N2, then your sister will be main sponsor and your friend supporting sponsor, and vice versa.

I don't have any info on province influencing Visa decision. But thinking logically, I won't be surprised if the fact that there are more visa applicants heading to Toronto than to let's say Saskatchewan, that the success rate for Saskatchewan applicants will probably be higher than for Toronto applicants. No facts, no figures, just reasoning.

Cheers!

I can't think of any gadgets you'll need that you can't get here for cheaper. For me, the most valuable things are authentic naija food. I've never been able to find quality garri, they basically sell 'chaff' garri for like 10 bucks per 4 cups or something that crazy. So garri, yam, powdered milk, stock fish maybe (but I don't know how to cook, so my mom just brings it for herself)...things like that.

Trust me, you'll miss niaja food.
Serious? So people are allowed to bring in things like yam?

Noted sir, but I can't remember reading on any page where anyone argued with you that cgpa is the only criteria needed for admission into any school in Canada.

Everyone on this thread that has applied for admission into any Canadian university /college at one point in time or the other knows too well that other factors such as references, statement of interest, and experience (in some cases) all add up towards consideration for admission.

Calm down ejor, your blood dey hot...no offense meant.
Hehehe...no offence taken sir, na learn all of us come learn for here. But you too need to heed the "Calm down Jor" advice you just gave me because the cgpa not being the only criteria ish was meant for the guy who asked the original question and not for you. He seemed to want to know if his cgpa met the cut off mark &i was only encouraging him to not give up on the admission even if his cgpa falls short. Maybe i should have posted that on his own question and not on your post.

How are you enjoying the summer? Abeg, remember us in your kingdom o!

[b] Canada grading system is different sir...

A+ = 90 - 100
A = 85 - 89.99
A- = 80 - 84.99
B+ = 75 - 79.99
B = 70 - 74.99
C+ = 65 - 69.99
C = 60 - 64.99
Apologies. What I posted is the US grading system. He has a 3.5 which is at least a 70. Depending on certain factors, it could translate to more than a 70. Apparently, Canada does not have a uniform grading system. 70 in Saskatchewan is a B. 70 in Quebec is a C+. 70 in Ontario is a B-. 70 in Mannitoba is a B and 70 in British Columbia is a C+

I want to reiterate that ones grades are not the only factor considered in admission decisions. Even if the school's website says that the requirement for admission is an A, they can still admit a candidate who has less than an A but can show strengths in other components of his/her application which can compensate for the shortfall in the grades.

Permit me to reply. In this case, it is almost impossible and coming to spend such an amount on an assumption that the person will raise $20k in tuition asides other expenses is synonymous to suicide. Most jobs here pay a little above minimum wage and the higher you earn, the higher the tax you pay. More so, studies isn't as easy as you having as much time for other activities except the person doesn't mind the class of grade and also been withdrawn from the program.
You are missing the whole point bro. You seem to be selecting my posts randomly and responding to them. You will have to read the five or six posts I have made on this issue to get my train of thought. You are still harping on paid employment as the only source of income to someone who has left the shores of this country with incomplete funds.

Money should NEVER be the reason why someone does not attempt something was my introductory remark on the subject matter. Can he get good enough grades to get part scholarship for his second year? Can he cry out to someone in Nigeria to loan him some money to complete his education with a promise to refund later? Can he/she braid hair to earn extra bucks apart from the 20 hour a week jobs? Yes! Yes!! Yes!!!

Sooooo, someone will be lucky/blessed enough to get a TRV and 10,000 CAD cash in hand but because his programme is 15k tuition per annum, he should not travel?? Your concern seems to be that he might not get the remaining funds to complete his education, which would mean he wasted the 10,000 CAD. In that case, you my friend would be FANNING the FLAMES of the FEAR of FAILURE! By the way, all those words start with the letter F.

I asked a question earlier and I am yet to get a response from anyone. If your advice is that someone with incomplete funds should not travel, because of the risk of getting stranded, then what would your advice be to someone who traveled with the promise of complete funds at the beginning but gets stranded just one year into his four year programme because his sponsor lost his job and the source of promised funds dried up? Will you advice him to enter the next flight and head back to Nigeria?

(Lack of)Money should NEVER be the reason why someone does not attempt something

By the way, this is the last post I will be making on the subject matter for two reasons: (1) I think the debate has reached its elastic limit (2) Those in need of advice on the subject matter have already made up their minds on whether to go with the for or against

Cheers to all contributors!

I disagree with you on the part I highlighted. I have seen people do a lot of illegality to stay back in the U.S. one of the things I learnt at some point is that what happens in the U.S. stays in the U.S. In as much as you have good intentions, I would advise you anyone who has such an idea to count the cost and be sure you have a fall back plan.
Erm...I'm not sure what exactly you disagree with. The people who did illegality to stay back in the US, would they do illegality to stay back in Canada, UK or Australia too? Yes they would. And that is exactly what I inferred.

Here is how you can agree or disagree with my point. If all the source of funding for your PHD dries up tomorrow, would you resort to illegality to remain in Canada?

justwise:
That is exactly how it's done. No other way around it legally.
Chairman, I find it odd that you and Tinu are now jumping on Chrigo's post as if it is in consonance with what you guys said earlier. Tinu said categorically that people should not travel unless they have all the money complete. You (justwise) said anybody who travel without tuition and living expenses is PURE MADNESS. I even asked you if someone has 10k out of 15k tuition on a two year course, whether he should travel, you categorically said No! Your positions are at variance with that of Chrigo.

Jengetiele said people can travel with incomplete money and make a lot of money legally. Chrigo is disputing Jengetiele's claim as to how much people can make without breaking the law but Chrigo ended by affirming that people can make upto $10,000 a year legally by just working full time during the four months long break. In other words, Chrigo is saying that people can come with part money and work hard to make up the rest. Whether the stress of the work will tell on them or not was never the argument. It was whether or not they should venture out without complete tuition and living expenses.

And @justwise, I still dispute your claim that there is no other way of making money legally except through the 20 hours a week system or even the full time work during long breaks. If someone is gifted in designing websites or creating apps, whether or not the person is studying I.T. there, if that person works 20 hrs a week and can by the side use his software skills to design products that organizations there find useful, is that person engaging in illegality? If a lady who does accessories (beads and the likes) here in Nigeria, goes over there, takes up the 20 hrs a week offer, but on the sides is able to do beads she can sell to people of all races and creeds, is she breaking the law? If someone who writes scripts for Nollywood goes there and in spite of his course load and his 20hrs a week earnings, is able to sell a script for a short film to be aired during the toronto film festival, is he breaking the rules? Or someone studying engineering in Canny but in his spare time paints oil on canvass and sells as art work? I can go on and on but i'm sure you get my drift.

I am not in Canada yet so I am open to education from those who are there on whether the examples I have listed above are illegal. I have mentioned just four out of many other hands-on or intellectual gifts people can use to generate income outside of paid employment. My question is, would it be legal to do so? Let people knowledgeable and experienced with the Canadian system respond.

In any event, Chrigo, a well respected veteran of this thread, has swung the argument in favour of those who say that YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE ALL TUITION AND LIVING EXPENSES COMPLETE before you apply to schools or for TRV or eventually travel.

Opposing views are still welcome
