You can't drive a car without putting on your seat belt. If you and the passenger in front forget to put in on, the car would begin to give out a loud beeping sound with the seat belt sign showing on the dashboard. So you just have to park somewhere and put it on. Cos the sound won't stop. My car has done that to me several times. Most especially when I'm in a hurry to go somewhere and I forget to put in on.

I work in the riverine area. The company I work for normally hires speed boat not canoes - with cabin. However there is shuttle services which convey ppl with regular boats using power engines which I opt for. Please note , there is no overloading and everyone is given a life jacket. No be small journey. Na risk. A life jacket should have been a must. That is the 101 of boat rides

Myth 8 – Life jackets are required only in deep water
There are many instances where people who were fishing or engaging in activities near the water’s edge have fallen into the water. Some became unconscious or were incapacitated due to injuries sustained in the fall. It was their PFD that kept them alive until help arrived.

Besides keeping you afloat, life jackets also provide other benefits. Some jackets are designed to automatically turn you around so that your face is always out of the water. This ensures that you are able to breathe even if you are incapacitated. Most PFD keep you warm and help prevent hypothermia in cold water.

A life jacket makes a huge difference to your safety when you are in or near the water. Always wear one and make sure that everyone with you is doing the same. Always use a PFD of the right size. An inflatable jacket that is too large can be dangerous and one that is too small may not keep you afloat.

Learning the basic form of swimming could have saved.

I am sure calls were made the moment the boat began to capsize. Just a survival swimming technique to remain afloat in water till help comes could have saved since there was no lifejacket.

If you have children ages 11-16, make sure they learn how to swim. Once you learn the technique, it remains with you till death.
