Politics / Re: Bloody Clashes In Central Nigeria by Arkison: 12:20am On Dec 24, 2009
these people with their climate change rumour will not stop. Ever since when I was a todler I know there is always annual clash between the fulani and hausa farmers. Mostly as a result of blockadge of migration path by the farmers and conversion of grazing land into farmlands.

The main cause of this clash, in my own opinion is population explosion. The ciites and towns grows rapidly to the extend that forest cleared at alarming rate for farming not because of the sahara desert. The governments in the north have to do something about this population growth, other wise within the next few decades our people (Fulani) will go extincts because of lack of migration path and grazing land. It is so alarming that when you follow a route to a grazing land, next year you will fin the route and the grazing land converted to farmland or even plots for towns and cities expansion.

The problem with Nigeria is not PDP. The problem of Nigeria, from my own understanding, correct me if I am wrong, is Nigerians.

If they form another political party, stronger than PDP, Nigerians will start decamping to that Party again. All of them. Isn't it what is happening recently.

Why can't you control yourselve. I mean, I already find it annoying the way you talk about it now. I am sure if I was your bf and you beg me like this I will not call you again. It seems you kind of nagging woman. talk, and talk and talk. . . haba . . .when will you calm down?
Romance / Re: I Am Going To Have A Nervous Breakdown by Arkison: 5:24pm On Oct 28, 2009
U must hv told him something realy realy bad. Something that hurt him. And it has bn building for long.

What I discover when relationship is sour, it is not always the trigger than that is the main cause. There is something. There is realy something you dont want to talk about. Search for it.

My advice, contrary to some here, is never be the one to call this relationship off. Do not move on, untill he moves first.

Some begging can be really very annoying. Certain women, when they begin to beg, you feel like beating the shit out of them. To me, if what you have said is true, and from the way you post here, your beging can realy make somebody boils more. Why go tell other ppl? His mum, friends and sisters? Don't you know that hurts some men. Anytime you have problem, leave it between you and him. After all, he didn't consult those people before he decides to go into relationship with you.

The next line of action - do not call him no more and do not send him txt message to beg him.

Well the guy even try, when I had problem with my gf, I tried to do that, but by the 5 day I couldn't sleep.

Two things. . . .

1. I'd like to tell you all that Madam Secretary Hillary Clinton will soon be resigning as US Secretary of State. If you have any stake on it go ahead and double your risk placement. . money talks!

2. At a local rally not too long ago in which Newt Gingrich gave a speech he said many things which in interpretation would suggest that Republicans already have drafted an anti-Obama plan to be executed officially if they win control of the 112th Congressional term. Newt was Speaker of The House and the opposition to President Clinton. If indeed Republicans regain control of the House next year, Obama will have a different dynamics to deal with in his Presidency and definitely will need someone in his camp who once fought the battle from the oval office chair and came out of it victorious. He has two people to pick from - Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. It is no secret that President Obama is very close to Carter and is relationship with Clinton is a distant one. In consideration for what lies ahead, President Obama need to close the gap with Bill. He needs Bill more than he needs Carter now.

No matter who the Nigerian is, his "Godfather help me" mentality will give him up.

Why do you thing Obama can't fight his own fight and win untill he bring somebody?

Remember to two battles are similar even in the same war, wage by the same generals.
Foreign Affairs / Amnesty: Should Pakistan Take A Clue From Nigeria And Britain? by Arkison: 11:22am On Oct 28, 2009
In recent we have heard statements like "We do not negotiate with terrorist", "we don't talk to terrorist". This is especially advocated by the previous US governments in their "war of terror".

But what happend if the the terrorist are from your country? Do you continue killing your own citizens? After a prolong war with IRA, the British government negotiated with them to bring and end to their suicide and bombings. I remember in the growing up in the 80s and 90s in UK, being given lectures in schools with regard to security. After negotiation, the IRA is gone, Northern Ireland is relatively peaceful and calm.

We are also witnessing something happening in Nigeria, the government have negotiated with our militants and it seems peace is gradualy returning to the Niger Delta

Why should the US government push Pakistan to continue waging war with its people? The tribal areas in Pakistan have been semi-autonomous for a long time, direct military assualt results in them feeling like the Pakistanis are wagin a genocide war against the Pastun and the Baluchis. This is akin to the feelings of Niger Deltans towards the Yoruba and Hausa controlled government of Nigeria.

I do believe there is need to change this attitude of eradicating terrorist by killing them all. The American foreign policy mades feels like, only Americans life is sacred, others, no matter how many, can be eliminated to save few Americans.

Isn't the Amnesty in Nigeria proven to be a success? Shouldn't other countries emulate that?

Beaf:

These are mineral deposits in commercial quantity.
The source is Raw Materials Research and Development Council Abuja. That has to be the most accurate data out there.

I went to their site but couldn't get any information.

I am still sceptical about the commercial availability. Rather than listing the minerals, they should give us a rough estimate of proven reserves that will justify the commercial availability of the resources.

Onething I am certain, if such materials exists in commercial quantity, we do not have to look for investors, they will come on their own. Scientist and geologist have use sophisticated equipments to map out minerals deposits all over the world based on sedimentary rocks basin. If they can go to Congo, in the mid of civil war, Liberia, Seirra Leone, nothing can stop foreign investor from pitching their tent in the country.

I still doubt the commercial viability of some of the resources.
Politics / Re: Your State Is Rich! by Arkison: 1:35pm On Oct 26, 2009
@Poster,

There is difference between the existence of mineral matter and commercial viability of extracting the mineral matter.

Most of these resources sited are not commercialy extractible. Rather they exist in minute quantity and in some cases scattered quantity. Hence making developing quarries for extracting such minerals in practicable.

Another thing you should understand is that most of these states like to "show off". If you take these data from a government site, there is high possibility that they are doctored.

You should also note that, while we recognise political boundries, nature doesn't. So some of the mineral resources in 2 or 3 neighbouring states are from the same basin. Example Bauchi, nasarawa and plateau state share the same boundry, and some of the minerals found in bauchi are found in plataeu. If you go to sites where they are extracted, you will notice that they spill between the 2 states.

You shouldn't be sorry to anyone.

Arrange marriage is practice all over the world for different reasons. Most Nigerian marriages are arranged. Either by friends or relatives. I will not be fooled with the 'love' thing that most of us profess for marrying someone. Cos by the time they marry someone, they must have said 'I love you' to many.

Most women marry for economic reason.

But I do agree that you shouldn't bare your back in public. Everybody have something to hide. You may never know who is watching or listening.

Don't you know you can be traced. Watch your mouth.
Politics / Why Do State Interfere With Local Government? by Arkison: 2:03pm On Oct 20, 2009
Ever since I started paying attention to Nigerian politics, the interference of State Gov'ts and their House of Assembly in Local government administration is becoming too alarming.

Local governments officials are suppose to be elected, but why do we always read Gov's sacking elected chairmen and councillors? Isn't that undemocratic? Isn't that unconstitutional? Do state Governors and their house of assemblies have power to sack elected officials?

I am not conversant with Nigerian politics and their laws, but local government administration in UK is at the heart of the community. The coucils build houses, libraries, schools (primary and secondary schools), recreactional facilities, waste management and disposal, maintain roads etc. . .

@ Poster,

Did you father and mother consult this guy before they concieve you?

You owe no one your life.

I am relatively young, not married yet, but I will soon get married. In few months time. And I told my gf, over the years people change. Nothing is permanent. Life change, attitudes change, even love change. You might love me for who I am today, but I will not be that person tomorrow. I might love for who you are today but you wont be that person tomorrow. Courtship is completely diferent from marriage. You have seen my good side. But my bad side will only be conspicious to you when we are married. Your life and happiness is more important than your love for me. Therefore at any material time in our marriage if you think you cannot cope with living with me, move on. If I die before I marry, you will fall in love with someone, probably who have the same name with me, and tell him all the nice things you are telling me today.

Why do people cling to impossiblities? For Godsake we make friends and change them depending on the condition of life and necessities.

U owe no one your life. Nor your father, mother, brother let alone a stupid stranger that didn't know when you use to shit in your pampers, phelm following on your nice pink shirt and crying all night.

If you were my sister and you tell me this story, I will lock you up in a room and give u a beaten of your life. It seems you enjoy the beaten.

Men are fickle. If somebody beat you today and you forgive him, nothing can stop him beating you again. Once the forbidden line is cross, it can be crossed, and crossed and crossed again.

People die, no matter what happened. If you pray, build tsunami warning systems,

Disaster always happen and they don't give a warning.

Any warning of impending disaster is just scientific fantasy

5 years is even too short to start building another dam on the Benue River.

Where will the gov't take 40 million people to?

Let nature take care of itself.

The shear arrongancy of human that they can control nature make me sick.

Earthquakes, floods, famine, droughts, forest fires, hurricanes, volcanoes, epidemics are all nature's way of maitaining the balance. The moment mankind started inventing stuff to reduce the death of human population that is the day our population started exploding. At the begining of 1900, it is estimated there exists just about a 1 billion people on earth. But within hundred years it is now 7 billion. If we keep manufacturing things and producing vaccines and medicine trying to keep people longer and producing more babies then we are just postponing the calamity day.

What I like about being broke is the meditation and planning to be thrifty and stingy next time I have money

What I hate about being broke is the funny looks and evasive styles your friends and family members give you.

What I enjoy most about being broke is when I get my next success £s. I spend with vengeance.

It is kind of funny how people sell other people land. Many Nigerians I meet have this experience. Like they are kind of common in Nigeria.

Start hide and seek with police. Remain a deluded fellow for years. And the poor relative and friends in Nigeria do not help matters. I have met a lot of nigerians that send money regularly, like, kind of that is what they are meant for. And I was wondering, if they were back in Nigeria will they give their folks £300 - 400 every month?

I have concluded that Nigeria and Nigerians are the most complicated fellows in this world. Very complicated.
Travel / Re: Why Will Anyone In His/her Right Senses Want To Vacate Nigeria To Live In The Uk by Arkison: 9:57am On Oct 16, 2009
Going to UK is not a matter of personal preference, rather, in most cases it is a necessity. Necessity driven by ineptitude, corruption, mismanagement of the governments in Africa in general and Nigeria in particular.

I am born in UK, live most of my life here. I lived in Nigeria and still will want to live in Nigeria than here.  Did 3 years in Federal college and 2 years in the university. Left Nigeria because of the strikes in the University. Went back to Nigeria for NYSC - when things got bad, I handed over my allowances to my NYSC officials and jet out of the country. I want to live in Nigeria. But the injustice, lack of opportunities and fairness is too much. The aspiration of many young men have been dampen by the society.

Despite lack of infrastructure, NEPA, good roads and poor hospital facilities, I still find Nigeria to be good place. Happiness is not link to materials around you. With constant power, water and NHS in UK, you still develop depression. Most people in this country are depressed. Never happy, always complaining. Whining.

However it is rediculous for any Nigerian making a decent living, with a house and car to sell everything and move to uncertain world. One of the cleaners of my lab in the University is a Nigerian. He was working for a bank in Nigeria. He left his job, sold his 4 bedroom house (the house is fenced a gate and even 2 bedroom called boys quaters). 3 years now he is still looking for job. He sent his wife and his children back to Lagos, cos he can't afford it here.

Nigerians should also understand that not everybody will be rich. If you destined to be  middle class, you will be a middle class in Nigeria or UK. So people should not expect because someone is in UK, he should be rich.

Well, almost everything have bn said. Nothing is new. If things are better in Nigeria, mass emigration will reduce

what annoys me much about africans (nigerians and ghanians in particular) is they struggle to change their "tone" once their plane touch heathrow. I grew up in uk, but luckly did most of my secondary school in nigeria and some part of my university. I learnt my native language and I made sure I learnt it very well. After coming back to uk, i met nigerians that when they speak, it is like "yuk" what is this guy saying? other migrants, especially from estern europe, speak clear english, without any effort to change their tone and accent.

A friend of mine came for his MSc last year. When i met him 6 months. . . i struggle to understand what the guy was saying. . . very annoying. . .

However, as africans we are generally now not meant to communicate. Apart from African and some south americans countries, all other countries in the world use their native language as language of communication. Even the english colonies . . . most retain their local languages, but Africans, we discard everything. . . we worship the white men. . . we depend on them to tell us what to do. . . we depends on foreign aid. .
