Most Indians are super grateful to be here and they work very hard. The process for converting their H1 to Green card takes ages. So they are very driven people

They are also insanely competitive especially in anything academic, Check spelling bee finalists most years half of the top 10 are at least children of Indians, And they have taken this to Ivy League schools. Most Indians only go for courses that pay. Medicine, Engineering, Technology, Investment Banking etc you will rarely find them in Social work or Education nor Sports marketing

Why have a very conservative outlook to life, they have a tight family, most households are 2 parents, most are educated and most study lucrative courses

If you take the average income per household by every ethnic group in America you will see Indians will likely lead. Many fortune 500 companies have Indians as CEOs

I wish Nigerians and Africans especially can borrow this spirit of academic and career excellence from them. I really envy that part of them

I tell people Indians are quiet relatively now because most of them are not natural born citizens and are still struggling to get their papers, Their kids wont be like that, they will be natural born citizens

If we as blacks think whites are wicked, then wait and see when Asians dominate US politics. You can take a cue from when you have an American boss vs an Asian boss

And Nigerians American?
Too busy owambe-ing ? Common they are very hard working! grin tell us where on that list they are.

Gochujang is korean hot pepper paste.

You can substitute with srirachi.

If you don't have these 2, you can use ketchup + ground pepper + honey.
Or
Normal tomato paste plus honey or sugar and pepper.

Drizzle lemon on top and some green onions kiss

I like this but the honey and brown sugar added put me off as it is some how sweet preventing me from enjoying the pepper experience. So I make my own habaneros sauce for sides. Just like making stew but no tomatoes or anything else.

Family / Re: The Guilt Of Locking My Husband Up For Two Days by armyofone(m): 8:44pm On Aug 22, 2023
Verokeena:
Good afternoon Nl family
Please pardon my epistle

My husband lost his job two years ago and ever since he has been so reluctant on getting another.. not to brag but I can say I have been the one keeping the family going ever since the job incidence (not like I ever complained) .

What I noticed about him is he now drinks and smokes and he is always hissing (obviously he is not happy and I try to always console him just to elate his Spirit)

Fast forward to last two months.. I got back from work and I was very tired.. I had to go pick the kids from school , bathe them, feed them and to make matters worst I wasn't feeling too alright .. (when I got home he (my husband) wasn't at home)

When I was done with the kids and fixing the house I was so tired I thought to myself to take a lil nap that was how I slept off (and this was around 9pm) ..

He got back around 10pm obviously drunk and smelling like a skunk.. he went straight to the kitchen. That was how the whole problem started.. first was insult.. then my phone, smashed it on the ground later my clothes he started tearing them .. saying all those things he was destroying was why I was feeling untouchable that he knows I have male friends sleeping with me..

I tried securing my items so he doesn't destroy more things that was how he pounced on me..

The next day I got him arrested he spent two days there.. but now I feel so guilty... He doesn't talk to me anymore.. I have apologized times without number

I don't just know what to do...

Nb: even while he was there I was still taking food to him

Don't feel guilty. Imagine if he had used the object used in destroying your clothes on you!
I don't see or know why you are still there with him when you are the father and mother of your children already.

Botragelad:

Americans can be funny people and sometimes different, don't you think? One thing that always baffles me is what they call a biscuit. It's completely different from what is called a biscuit in the UK. A biscuit to the brit is a small, flat, baked good that is usually sweet and crunchy. Like digestives, custard creams, hobnobs. Dunk them in your tea or have them as a snack.

But a biscuit to them is a soft, flaky, savoury bread that is often served with butter, jam, or honey. This thing called biscuit and gravy is not a meal in the UK because no one would eat that together, doubt that, except you pay a trip to the US. Biscuit and gravy is when they smother their biscuits with a thick, white sauce that has bits of sausage in it. They have it for breakfast or brunch.

Biscuit and gravy in the USA is what I will call scone and sausage casserole in the UK, quite similar. It's not a very common dish , but some people might make it for a hearty dinner. They use scones instead of biscuits, and they bake them with sausages and cheese in a casserole dish. Then they pour over some gravy made from stock, flour, and butter. It sounds quite tasty, actually.
Have you ever tasted an English biscuit, mate? And I don't mean the ones Americans call biscuit. I mean the proper biscuits that are crunchy and sweet.

On top biscuits and gravy you kum write the long epistle according to Botragelad? shocked grin
I like walker's short bread. Once in a while, I do eat digestives and Jacob Cracker. Hope it is English enough grin
I like Starbucks blueberry scone and white chocolate mocha wink

Hello, I'm glad you're enjoying your meal. That's a proper nosh you've got there. I can see the big cars in the car park. That's so American. Everything about America is big. You've got big portions, big buildings, big personalities. It's quite impressive.

Where else would you like to eat if not Cracker Barrel? Do you have a favourite cuisine or dish? I'm curious to know what you fancy. Some of their signature dishes are chicken and dumplings, meatloaf, and biscuits and gravy. You should try some of these!

Biscuits and gravy...taste good.
