Look at the percentages, and you will realize how woefully Atiku performed in core Northern states.

In Bauchi, Buhari got over 77% percent of the total votes cast, leaving Atiku to struggle for the remaining <30% with five other parties.

In Borno, Buhari got over 90% of total votes cast.

In Gombe, over 72%.

Check the other records, incuding in Katsina, and Kebbi.

Now, check Atiku's percentage in the Southwest states (excluding Lagos) and you will see that he performed even better in Southwest than in the North.

The bulk of his votes came from the North due to the population number, but he got more relative votes from the Southwest.
