Health / Akeredolu Commences Construction Of World-class Teaching Hospital In Akure by Ashleyeniwin(f): 5:04pm On Nov 09, 2019
...Targets 500 Bed Medical Facility

The determination of the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu administration to provide first-class health facilities for the people of Ondo State has taken another giant leap with the commencement of the construction of a modern world-class teaching hospital at the former State hospital in Akure, the state capital.

Already, the Critical Care Unit complex has been constructed and will be used as the temporary Accident and Emergency ward to allow for the demolition and construction of a two-storey complex at the current A & E building.

Similarly, a new building has been constructed for the Children Emergency ward, which was never in existence since the establishment of the hospital.
The Akeredolu administration has also began the reconstruction of a 16-year old abandoned structure at the hospital, which is projected to be used for surgical outpatience and stroke ward.

Addressing Journalists after inspecting the ongoing construction at the facility, Governor Akeredolu said his administration is upgrading the health facility from a 150-bed to a 300-bed hospital.

Arakunrin Akeredolu also hinted that he has given a directive that houses very close to the hospital should be valued, as his administration is ready to acquire the buildings and compensate the owners.

He said apart from the fact that it is very dangerous living very close to a hospital, the acquisition will enable government to expand the facility and build a modern world-class Teaching hospital.

Akeredolu said:”All of us have toured this facility and I’m sure you remember what we met on ground here . Since we came on board ,things have changed here including the road network and a number of buildings here have been renovated, but we have just started

“The important thing is that we are building a new medical ward, a two-storey building and it will be so big. Very soon, by next month the frontage will go down and it will allow for a modern medical world-class facility here.
“It is taking us a lot to arrive at making this place a world-class teaching hospital . We know that the University of Medical Sciences needed to have a befitting hospital . Instead of building new ones or concentrating in one area, we decided to have a multi-sector hospital.

“This place used to be a 150-bed hospital and it will be 300-bed when we complete it.
"I have looked at the buildings that are too close to the hospital and I have asked that they should be valued so that we can acquire them and compensate the owners .

”Our target is to have a 500-bed teaching hospital . A number of buildings around will have to go and we will pay compensation and expand the hospital to make it big.”

Politics / Ondo State In Happy Mood As Retirees Gets Ready For Pension, Gratuity by Ashleyeniwin(f): 1:01pm On Nov 07, 2019
Maturity is all about being genuine. Being ethical and charismatic are both great leadership skills that are possessed by governor Akeredolu. These skills set are hard to come by especially by our modern day politicians. The one trait often overlooked in leadership is maturity. Making informed and enlightened decisions, giving advice that helps empower others, and refusing to let emotions rule are all signs of a mature leader. Maturity is a way of building trust.
It comes not only with age, but with mindfulness and accepting responsibility.

This article is focused on the recent approval of 5 billion naira for pension and gratuity by the ondo state governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, for retired public servants from 2011
till date.

I have always found the best leaders to be those who know how to relate with everyone even oppositions. As obvious as it may seem, not everyone has this trait. Being able to be in a room and connect with everyone on some level is not the easiest trait to come by. It's important in the sense that, connecting with leaders makes followers stick with them through thick and thin.

The ondo state governor has not only conquered regular payment of civil servants' salaries, he has also paid pensions and gratuities of retired public servants in the state, which is second to none in Nigeria.

Being a good leader requires combination of good traits; one trait is not enough. But among all these
traits, I believe a leader should have stability in both emotion and passion.

During Akeredolu's campaign in 2016, many political analyst said the man Aketi, is an introvert who might not be able to match up with other political candidates if elected, but Contrary to that misconception, introverts make very good leaders. They are reasonable and persistent, and their ability to carefully analyze every situation can mostly bring incredible results. Also, introverts would rather listen than talk, which means that they take into consideration various points of view and then put more time into critical thinking.

Investment / Kamomi Aketi Let There Be Surplus In Flow Of Water by Ashleyeniwin(f): 10:32am On Oct 31, 2019
KAMOMI AKETI
LET THERE BE SURPLUS IN FLOW OF WATER

It's a known fact that 75% of the universe is made up of water, while the 25% is made up of land; but it is still a kind of mystery that there are reports over shortage of water around the world, something that government around the world have tried to confront. Nigeria as a nation is not left out, which implies that our dear Ondo State once upon a time faced this situation.

Regardless of what people might say, if many doubt water as being a mere cheap achievement, then such individuals have not visited Lekki and Lagos Island where the water around them is salty and they have to import water from the mainland. Perhaps, one should take a visit to the Niger Delta region where water is sold for high prices.

We then ask, is water not free gift of nature? Water has been a critical issue in Ondo State years back until our mantra came on board tagged "Otun Otun ni oo" and inside this, drinkable water movement emerged "KAMOMI AKETI", a vibrant initiative that declared "state of emergency" on free inflow and access to drinkable water.

You might want to ask what is "KAMOMI", well, it is a Yoruba language whose literal meaning implies "Let us drink water", which means let the whole Ondo State drink water freely during the reign of AKETI. Like the saying goes thus "seeing is believing", over 30 communities have testified to the reality of this initiative that has installed new borehole and repair the old ones.

Communities like Iboropa-Akoko, Emure Ile, New Owo Town, Alade Idanre, Ondo Town and many more. Water outbreak diseases during the tenure of Governor Akeredolu has reduced drastically and many have been asking how come, well the answer is simple: KAMOMI AKETI INITIATIVES has been the brain behind this outstanding achievements. More water projects are still on-going and will be completed by February 2020 in which we will kick-start new ones in another 30 communities.

Our vision and plight remains the same; safeguarding the welfarism of every occupants in Ondo State in which water is a crucial part and this is just the beginning.

Once again we say "Let Us Drink Water of Otun Otun"....

Ondo riverside communities’ N6bn power project ready soon –NDDC

Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) acting Managing Director, Akwagaga Enyia, has disclosed that N6 billion 132/33kv sub station to provide electricity for over 2,000 riverside communities in Ondo State, will be ready for use soon.

Enyia gave the assurance when she addressed newsmen during an inspection of the project in Okitipupa, yesterday.

The NDDC acting managing director, who was in company with the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, said she was excited the commission was constructing a huge power station in the oil-producing area of the state.

It was gathered that the project got stalled for over 10 months due to non-payment of outstanding Interim Payment Certificate (IPC).

However, the NDDC met the obligation last week and work began in earnest as a target completion period of first quarter of 2020 has been agreed between contractors and the commission.

“I was told that for sometime, there was delay in the progress of work on site. When I came on board as the acting managing director, I made sure funds were released to put the project on fast-track. That is why work is going on at a much faster pace now,” she said.

Enyia stated that it was one of the key projects with many months of outstanding IPC, which the commission had cleared to pave the way for progress at the site.

Enyia assured that as more funds were made available to the commission, payment would be sustained to guarantee early completion of the project, stating that the contractor had promised to complete the project by the first quarter of 2020.

The deputy governor expressed delight that over 2,000 oil-producing communities spread across five local government areas of Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Okitipupa, Odigbo and Irele, all in Ondo South Senatorial District, would benefit from the sub-station.

Executive Director, Engineering and Technical Services, Niger Delta Power Holding Co Ltd., Ifeoluwa Oyedele, said the inspection by NDDC was significant because it underscored the importance of collaboration among agencies of government.

ODSG screens 276 for breast cancer

In an attempt to have a more committed and productive workforce, no fewer than 276 women were screened for breast cancer at the Ondo State Hospitals Management Board (HMB) yesterday.

Speaking with The Hope shortly after the breast health awareness at the premises of the board, Permanent Secretary, HMB., Dr. Niran Ikuomola explained that the event aimed at equipping staff with the knowledge of breast cancer and means of preventing it.

Noting that it will be an annual event, he stated that although it is more beneficial to women, men can also benefit, saying “they have women and daughters.”

While speaking further, he noted that it is important to have a healthy staff which will help in bringing improvement to the state health sector.

He added that “it will be a motivation to staff in order to have more commitment to work.”

However, he stressed the need for staff to take care of their health just as he hinted that the resuscitation of the board’s clinic is underway for effective health care delivery especially during official hours.

Speaking earlier, Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr (Mrs) Ronke Fagbemi while providing answers to some questions from the gathering, stressed the need for women to avail themselves for medical check up at qualified health facilities whenever they notice any change in their breast.

Emphasising that lumps in breast isn’t cancer, she noted that lumps can reoccupy after it has been removed from the breast and advised that such reoccurrence should be presented for proper medication.

According to her; “lumps without being operated can lead to other ailment in the body, hence, always visit health facilities for proper diagnosis.”

Speaking further, she noted that massaging of breast does not prevent cancer but rather helps in its early detection, noting that “it is good for men to play with women’s breast as a lot of benefits are attached to it.”

Fagbemi berated the wearing of tight bra by some women, noting that it can cause fungal infection under the breast such as itching and sore.

She said that “although some women tend to wear padded bra because as they go older, there is the probability for the breast to sag. It is important for you to always loose the bra in order to free the breast later in the day.”

Health / ODSG Signs Mou To Build 1.1billion Dollars Medical City In Ondo by Ashleyeniwin(f): 4:23pm On Oct 24, 2019
As part of its commitment to improve the health sector, facilitate modern healthcare in Ondo State and end medical tourism abroad , the administration of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Germany-based health institution, Medicus International, to build a USD1.1billion Sunshine medical City in the state.

The Mou was signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, while the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Medicus International, Frank Spriewald, signed on behalf of the company at the Ondo State Governor's Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, on Thursday, October 24, 2019.

Speaking at the event, Governor Akeredolu said he was more than convinced that Medicus International has good intention to develop the medical infrastructure in the state.

He said: "I am more than convinced that Medicus has good intention. As I told them when they came, coincidentally about few weeks ago, I was in Germany myself and I saw their structure.

"When I was in Berlin, I was talking to another medical organisation to bring their facility to Ondo State. I was negotiating with them not knowing that someone else was already waiting for this.

"No doubt, we are interested in this. We have made efforts. We are already working on how to secure a land very close to the airport. It is an interesting thing.

"We are prepared to cooperate and we know that this sort of thing is to be done as a joint venture. The interest of Ondo State is there. We are putting land. The joint venture itself will come up."

Arakunrin Akeredolu also announced that the state government has set up a team led by the Special Adviser on Health to work with the Medicus International.

Earlier, the facilitator for Medicus International, Chief Oludare Bello, said the time for the execution of the project is thirty six months and development will be completed in forty eight months.

According to him, the hospital will deal with all facets of healthcare, adding that the nearness to the airport became imperative because the hospital will have its own helicopter that will transverse other parts of the state for medical purposes.

Chief Bello explained that there will be other facilities in the medical city such as conference Center, Cinema, teaching hospital and nursing school.

He said: "The hospital is a city on its own. The design is premised on the fact that there will be green in the whole hospital. That is to make the patients see the ambience of the hospital when they lean over the window to have a view.

"It will be one of its kind in Nigeria. Over 50% of the doctors are already trained in Germany. The doctors that will be employed here will also be trained in Germany.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye, said Medicus International is charged with the responsibility of looking for fund for the project, adding that the State government is only investing 100 hectares of land and with other routine approvals.

He said the MoU is coming after serial of engagements to have a memorandum signed between the state government and the organization.

Adelegbe lauds Akeredolu’s efforts in increasing IGR

The member representing Owo/Ose Federal Constituency of Ondo State in the National assembly, Otunba Timehin Adelegbe has commended the Akeredolu led Government for its current giant strides in the generation of internal revenue to boost the economy of the state.

Adelegbe, who is a renowned Banker and Economist by profession, while addressing newsmen in Abuja, quoted the latest Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) which shows that Ondo is presently one of the top ten states that generated the highest revenue in Nigeria between January and June 2019.

According to the business oriented legislator, it is worthy of note that Ondo state generated a whopping sum N19 billion of the total N691.11 billion generated by the 36 states and the FCT inclusive in the first half of the year.

According to him, “The report by the National Bureau of Statistics showed that thirty-one states and the FCT recorded growth in IGR, of which Ondo is one, while five states recorded a decline in IGR at the end of June 2019. This can easily be attributed to the brilliant policies of the Akeredolu-led Administration in regulating tax collection especially through automation in the state.”

The former Ondo state Commissioner for Commerce and currently a member House Committee on Budget and Appropriations in the House of Representatives specifically commended the assiduous efforts of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, in revamping the State agencies directly involved in generating revenues, especially the Ondo state Internal Revenue Service under the Chairmanship of Mr Tolu Adegbie, who he commended for his brilliance and bringing his wealth of experience gathered in the banking sector to bare. Moving the half yearly performance from average of N5billion in 2016 and 2017 to N9billion in 2018 and astronomical N19billion in 2019 is highly appreciable and commendable.

Otunba Adelegbe stated that “it is not surprising that citizens of Ondo state are not finding it too difficult to pay their taxes, considering the quantum and massive infrastructural developments being witnessed in the state, especially road rehabilitations and constructions.

He added that the problem of tax evasion in the past was rampart because the government could not point at any meaningful projects done in the state with the tax payers money, which made people of the state to see those non-performing governments as a task masters and slave drivers”.

Adelegbe said the present up shoot in the IGR of Ondo state is a big plus to the state in the sense that it has empowered the state to meet its recurrent expenditure without stress, which he believes has informed the regular payment of workers’ salaries and embarking on capital projects in major parts of the state.

He specifically cited some roads being constructed and rehabilitated within the state like Iwalewa Road, High Court Road, Oke Ogba and so on in Akure metropolis, Sabomi Road in Ese Odo, Opasorun Road, Bajare/Okemayo, St. Joseph Road in Idanre, three box culverts at Oyinmomo Ishakunmi Road in Ikare, the 2.3km Ogbomo Ifedara, Ajegunle Streets and Howlet Road, Ifon, completion of dualized township road in Owo, construction of dualized township road in Ikare Akoko, construction of Ijoka-Idanre road among many others.

Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, on Tuesday assured workers of his administration’s commitment to enhancing their productivity by providing conducive working environment for them.

He spoke while laying the foundation for the Ministry of Justice’s office complex and the Traditional Council Chambers.

The governor also promised to complete all abandoned buildings in the secretariat complex, just as he expressed appreciation to all civil servants for their contributions and dedication to duties, which, according to him, had aided the socio-economic growth of the state in the last one year.

Fayemi, who performed the turning of the sod for the two buildings, as part of activities to mark his first year in office, stated that the office complex for the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Local Government Service Commission would be completed.

He commended the state Ministry of Justice for its prompt handling of cases by ensuring that the ministry was ever active and prompt in providing rapid and systematic interpretation of government’s policies and rules into life-touching laws.

The governor said his administration embarked on the legacy project to ensure a befitting edifice for the Ministry to enhance its performance, adding that the ministry was once neglected and relegated in the past, but had now become a bride sought after nationally.

Fayemi added, “As a government, we understand and appreciate the importance of good, conducive and comfortable working environment as a prerequisite to enhancing performance and bringing the best out of every worker.

“We are committed to the welfare of all civil servants in Ekiti State, and I reassure you all that the welfare of our workers is our paramount interest. We appreciate your contributions and dedication to duties, and we will continue to do our best to inspire you to perform better.

“Any responsible government that wants efficiency and effectiveness from its workforce must provide conducive working atmosphere for the officials and staff of the Ministry. This is, of course, also true of many other buildings in the Secretariat. That is why we are taking steps about other structures, including SUBEB and Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) Secretariat and at least two other uncompleted structures in the Secretariat.

The governor also urged traditional rulers in the state to reciprocate government’s gesture by ensuring that they maintained peace and adequate security of lives and property of their subjects.

A recent report in The Hope had earlier reported that the Oba Adesida road was experiencing traffic congestion due to the activities of traders selling their wares along the popular road, particularly weekends.

Major streets in the Akure metropolis were dotted with makeshift stalls wheeled by the roadsides in which some traders peddle their wares.

Odebowale said “there is an existing law that prohibits traders from selling their goods by the roadsides.

He said “they are deliberately flouting the order. I have been telling them to leave the roadside but they are adamant,” he said .

He stated that some times, he had to lead the task force that would ensure that no trading is carried out by the roadside as the environmental task force was attached to his office.

Odebowale said that the task force does not want to carry out its duty by half measures and disclosed that they were preparing for a comprehensive exercise to correct the abnormality and get the traders off the roads.

He explained that he has called people concerned to a meeting and urged them to make them see reasons why it was odd to be involved in street trading.

He said that he appealled to them to leave the roadsides and get proper shops before the task force would swing into action.

He reiterated that very soon the state government is going to clear them off the walkways and roadsides.

Politics / We Are Not Funding Kogi Election – Ondo APC by Ashleyeniwin(f): 3:49pm On Oct 14, 2019
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State at the weekend reacted to the criticism of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on its intention to identify with APC brethren in Kogi State.

The opposition party had alleged that the state’s APC was planning to fund the re-election bid of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State. According to the ruling party, this, without any ambiguity, is a mischievous claim.

A statement by its spokesman, Alex Kalejaiye, said, For the records, the state chapter plans to set up a committee that has a clear assignment: To boost the morale of our party members in Kogi State.

“It is ridiculous for any individual or a political party, especially one that has national colouration, to allege that Ondo State chapter would build a war chest for an election holding in Kogi State, or anywhere else for that matter. Without dispute, the APC-led government in the state harbours no space for financial recklessness. This has drawn applause from objective and sincere observers and resulted in maximising benefits of levies and taxes for the welfare of the people. A government that dwells in the realm of frivolity would not contemplate the on-going transformation, and industrialization in Ore.

“Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has repeatedly bragged about what he would do to support the PDP in Ondo. We perceive same as normal political arrogance”. It said contrary to the PDP’s allegation that the APC-led government has destroyed the health sector, the party declared with all sense of modesty that the current administration has so far employed about half a million health workers to ensure quality health services.

The party urged the discerning people of the State to mock the unimpressive attempt of the PDP, and keep faith with a government that was going the extra mile to right the wrongs of decades.
