Health / 8 Health Facilities Was Shuts -ODSG by Ashleyeniwin(f): 11:54am On Oct 14, 2019
Why ODSG shuts 8 health facilities – Adegbenro

Towards safeguarding the health of residents of the state and ensuring they enjoy qualitative health care services, the Ondo State Government has closed down eight health facilities for various offences.

It also warned seven facilities for non compliance to rules of practice and engaging in unprofessional conducts.

Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro while reading the riot act to violators during a monitoring exercise of the Ministry in Odigbo Local Government stated that government will not relent in its efforts in sanitising the state health sector, noting that it is prepared to deal with those who will not make meaningful contributions to development of the sector.

Adegbenro while speaking further, frowned at the unprofessional conducts of some of the hospitals visited, and noted that government will continue to ensure quackery becomes eradicated in the sector.

He noted that the action of government was not to witch hunt, victimise or send any one out of job, but to ensure that minimum standards are put in place by Healthcare providers to avoid jeopardising the lives of patients.

He enjoined those interested in the health profession to get trained at accredited institutions and be certified adding that any unlicensed facility will be closed down and perpetrators prosecuted.

He also admonished patients and their relatives to always look out for the practising license of any facility they are to patronize.

However, he warned them to be careful of putting their lives in the hands of quacks who can worsen their health situation rather than improving it.

Also speaking, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Dipo Durojaye said government was ready to provide all the needed support to flush out quackery in the sector and advised those interested in practising, to pursue their career at institutions accredited by the Government and Professional bodies.

He further warned professionals who repeatedly fail to comply with the minimum practice standard or indulging in unprofessional conducts to desist, threatening that they will have their centres sealed off .

The Director Hospital Services, Ministry of Health, Dr Richard Adesoji who led the team to most of the facilities visited, lamented the high rate of quackery in the sector.

Dr Adesoji revealed that many of the facilities visited are not registered and those registered are not renewing their licenses.

While advising those that want to open health facilities to visit the Ministry and start on the right note, he warned that the government will not rest on its oars until the state is ridden of quacks.

Facilities closed down in Odigbo includes; Phobia Medical Clinic Ore, Tommydex Specialist Medical Clinic Ore, Pima Annex Ore, Ndubisi Hospital annex Ore, Oluyemi Medical Clinic Ore, Sister White Community Clinic Ore, Kenkos medical Laboratory Ore & Model Medical Laboratory Ore.

ARAKUNRIN AKEREDOLU; THE TRUE DEFINITION OF OMOLUABI IN ONDO STATE
The concept of Omoluabi within the confines of the Yoruba race rings a bell of what a true son and daughter of the soil stands for,one born and bred with the traditional Yoruba values and morals system.

The concept of Omoluabi is a philosophical and cultural concept that's native to the Yoruba people . It's used to describe a person of good character; the omoluabi concept signifies courage, hard work, humility and respect. An omoluabi is a person of honor who believes in hard work, respects the rights of others, and gives to the community in deeds and in action. Above all, an omoluabi is a person of integrity.

An omoluabi demonstrates and exhibits the inherent virtue and value of Iwapele . Iwapele is ultimately the basis of moral conduct in Yoruba culture and a core defining attribute of an omoluabi.
Standing tall in Ondo state, leading the good sons and daughters into a new dawn of a sustainable environment, where every resources and energy are channeled towards the development of the state and it's citizens irrespective of religious backgrounds and social status is Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

A man who by all definition has proven himself to be a true son of the soil, one the whole state can call, "OMOLUABI".
To the Old generation, he represents an individual who is well brought up, well nurtured with the true values and cores of the Yoruba heritage, to the younger and incoming generation, he represents an exemplary figure, ones whose actions is worthy to be emulated.
Sons and daughters of the soil can testify to his character, temperament, and sensibilities. He exemplified and embodied some of the essential traits of a quintessential omoluabi. He has bequeathed to the Yoruba race an alluring sense of grace and dignity.

In a world where public offices has been elevated to the position of a demi god, where people sees political power as another means to acquire wealth without any iota of respect for others. Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has risen above these water, and has set himself a distinct and unique personality not only as a political figure, but a true Omoluabi.

Popularly known as the, "Talk And Do Governor" the white bearded legal cum political icon has within these two years as the Executive Governor of Ondo state given everyone a sense of belonging, right from the lowest to the upper echelon in the social stratification structure of the state.
He has seen to the fulfillment of his promises of good governance in the state and is ever working to sustain it in the state.

A cursory look at the State's landscape reveals that the state was confronted with a plethora of challenges, ranging from unemployment to infrastructure, civil servant in the state were in their toughest time as their salaries were not forthcoming as at when due. Concerning these perplexing problems, Yoruba people will say that: Melo la fe ka ninu eyin adepele: meaning that these problems are legion, interwoven, and intricate. Upon assumption into the Alagbaka house, his reflection on the fundamental challenge confronting the state has been swift and timely.

As the true Omoluabi that people said he is during the campaign period, he personally proved beyond all doubts that he's truly the man to lead the State.
It is indubitable to say that Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu , popularly known as "AKETI"means the business of governance in Ondo State.
One of the popular Yoruba phrases: “ka s’oro ka de ba be e ni iyi omoluabi, meaning (acting on one’s words makes one honorable), exactly depicts Aketi's personality and style of governance in the State.
In other words, Omoluabi is someone who respects the rights of others in deeds and in action. AKETI is an embodiment of such person.

Ondo Govt will fix deplorable Federal Roads, Works Commissioner Assures

Ondo State government has expressed its displeasure at the condition of federal roads in state and vow its desire to fix them.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye made this known during an inspection of the failed portion of the Araromi junction along Owo/Ilesa road in Akure.

Mr. Ogunkeye remarked that though the roads are owned by the federal government, they are being used by the people of the state, hence the need for the inspection.

“The government of Arakunrin Akeredolu cannot fold its arms and watch these roads become impassable. We have decided to intervene on behalf of our people. Our people remain the priority. Anything that affects them must be tacked. We have to make our roads safe regardless of maybe they are federal road or not.”

The Commissioner explained that the state government was compiling the list of such roads to be fixed across the state, adding that the state government had earlier intervened in Owo/Ikare and Owo/Ose roads, which are all federal roads. He stressed that the state government was going to replicate the gesture in all other federal roads that are in poor state.

He said the state government intended to liase with the Federal Road Maintainance Agency (FERMA) on the need for the federal government to maintain its roads in the state.

The Commissioner and the team also visited areas where roads are in deplorable condition in Ondo. The places visited are Akure/Ondo garage road and Leventino junction along Ife road. They also checked a collapsed bridge at Akinwande, Surulere, where the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs. Lola Fagbemi conducted them round.

At Okelisa, Mr. Ogunleye frowned at the habit of dumping refuse in drainages, saying it hinders free flow of water, which leads to flooding.

The Special Adviser to Mr. Governor on Works, roads and Infrastructure, Engineer Raimi Aminu and other engineers accompanied the Commissioner on the inspection tour.

AKEREDOLU, AN ICONIC LEADER WITH INTEGRITY

Ondo State over some decades from when it was created has witnessed successive leadership, ranging from military to civilian government who at one point in time effected great development or slowed the development of the state.

For the past two and half years now, Ondo state has witnessed a range of massive development from one man’s vision of change through (JMPPR) which are;
J- Job creation through Agriculture, Entrepreneurship and Industrialization
M- Massive Infrastructural development and maintenance
P- Provision of functional Education and Technological growth
P- Provision of Accessible and Qualitative Health care and social service delivery.
R- Rural Development and Community Extension service.

These agenda has metamorphosed from just a vision to reality, with the leader not making noise nor defacing the State with pictures.

Just as Lao Tzu rightly opined “A leader is best known when people barely know he exists. When his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they say: we did it ourselves.”

This is the personality of the present Governor of Ondo state Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN who has caused great development in Ondo state in the past two and half years in office.

Akeredolu believes so much on the masses opinion and choice. This was seen in one of his lectures in December 2009, where he exhibited the trait of equity and fair judgment when he agitated that no amount of electoral reform or judicial system could give Nigeria free and fair elections if Nigerian themselves refused to take practical steps to ensure that their votes count.

Akeredolu has proven to be the man of the people. His quest for development did not start from his present position as a governor but has been there right from when he was elected the chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). Due to his goodwill and immense contribution to the development of the association, in 2012, the new NBA secretariat in Abuja was named after him.

Governor Akeredolu is not a man who is intoxicated with power. Even with his power as the number one citizen of Ondo State, he still have value and respect for cultural values.

This was displaced during the installation of Olowo of Owo Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, who worked under him as a civil servant at the state level. The governor prostrated before the new royal majesty as a sign of respect and humility for the Yoruba culture.

Akeredolu also showed his humility when the Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka visited Ondo state for the 2019 Fagunwa Study Group International Conference. He personally drove Prof Soyinka round Akure to show him some of the major projects completed by his administration.

The task of every leader is to get their people from where they are to where they have not been. Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN so far has proven to be that dutiful leader who has the interest of the state and the masses at heart with the massive development he has brought in Ondo state.

Investment / Group Commends Akeredolu Over Ore Flyover by Ashleyeniwin(f): 6:43am On Oct 09, 2019
A group, Ondo for Good Governance, Accountability and Transparency (OGGAT) in Ondo State, on Tuesday said the construction of Ore flyover bridge and other roads across the state will help to improve the socio-economic development in the state.

The group stated this in Ore headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, said apart from witnessing economic development in the state, the road constructions will also help to reduce incessant traffic bottleneck experienced in Ore.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the state coordinator, Mrs Margaret Akinwalere, commended the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, for initiating and executing projects in infrastructure, education, health and human capital development.

Akinwalere said that history will not forget Akeredolu in a hurry as a man with passion, zeal, and commitment whose achievements were unprecedented in the governance of the state.

She noted that Akeredolu’s administration has made the people of the state know that it is possible for contractors to mobilise and work on sites during raining season.Mrs Akinwalere stressed that the governor has entrenched good governance through the execution of pro-people projects, adding that infrastructural development is key to the growth of a state or a country.

“We are an advocate for good governance, accountability and transparency.

“This is a group that has professionals as core members. OGGTA has been in the existence for the past 18 years and we can simply speak on both the past and present governments in the state.

“We have been following Akeredolu’s activities since the flag off of his campaign in October 2016, just how we did to other governorship candidates. Our duty was to collate all the campaign promises made by all these candidates and to ensure these promises are implemented when the winner gets to the office.

“We vividly remember that Akeredolu made the promise of the construction of this flyover to the people of Ondo State when he flagged off his 2016 campaign in this same Ore town. Since then, we have been monitoring the activities of the governor.

“So far, Akeredolu deserves the pass mark of the people of the State because he has been able to fulfil the majority of his campaign promises. His projects are visible. There is no local government in the state that you can say has been left out.”

Mrs. Akinwalere said: “Akeredolu has taken a worthy risk by embarking on this flyover project on the basis that we are not even sure if the federal government will refund the money that the state government spent if we should base this on the recent comment of the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Tunde Fashola that the federal governments will no longer refund a state government who constructs a federal government road.

“We believe strongly that the risk is worth taking. Although, this a federal government road but the state government can no longer wait when lives are being lost as a result of avoidable circumstance.

“Ore is a gateway town, situated in a vantage position between the Western part and the Eastern part of Nigeria. We are glad that the Governor is constructing an international standard flyover that will serve as a major contribution to the economic growth of the country.

Politics / Independence: Ondo State Celebrates Good Governance. by Ashleyeniwin(f): 12:54pm On Oct 08, 2019
Ondo state among the 36 states in Nigeria was created on 17 March 1976, by the then Head of State Late Gen. Murtala Muhammed and at such has been left in the hands of Military and Civilian governors.

The State has produced 18 successive governors including the present governor since its creation, from both military and civilian parastatal. The following were the military governors, Ita David Ikpeme, 1976-1978, Sunday Tuoyo, 1978-1979, Micheal Bamidele Otiko, 1984-1985, Micheal Okhai Akhigbe, 1985-1986, Ekundayo Opaleye 1986-1987, Raji Alagbe Rasaki, 1987-1988, Bode George, 1988-1989, Sunday Abiodun Olukoya, 1990-1992, Mike Torey, 1993-1994, Ahmed Usman, 1994-1996, Anthony Ibe Onyearubulem, 1996-1998, and Moses Fasanya, 1998-1999.

While the state was juxtapose in between military and civilian leadership, it has produced 5 civilian governors, who are Micheal Adekunle Ajasin (UNP) 1979-1983, Bamidele Olumilua (SDP) 1992-1993, Adebayo Adefarati, (AD) 1993-2003, Olusegun Agagu (PDP) 2003-2009, Olusegun Mimiko (Labour Party), Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (APC) 2017 till present.

The citizenry of Ondo State are known for exhibition of a high level of political consciousness, which has led the successive leaders into contributing their various quota in ensuring that the state enjoy the dividend of good governance.

As Nigeria celebrates its 59th Independence, looking into Ondo state, it has acquired numerous feats as a state that worth celebrating. Especially with the advent of the incumbent governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, who while taking his oath of office assured the people of “ hope, clear agenda of prosperity and a vision of life abundant” has effortlessly structured the state into an enviable society that inhabits Industrialization, infrastructural development, qualitative education, qualitative healthcare and social service delivery and rural development.

This tremendous act has scored Akeredolu high mark on the people’s scorecard. He proofed himself a man who is determined to work by changing the face of Ondo state in every sector.

The recent improvements recorded in education in the 18 local government areas in the state, is the renovation of five hundred and twenty (520) Primary Schools block with well-equipped computer laboratory class. The state government has also approved the construction of more 320 schools across the state.

Ondo state government under the leadership of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, has rewritten the economic history of the state for good through industrialization and partnership with foreign investors who are expertise in converting raw materials into finished products.

Little wonder why, the state is making aggressive waves in its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which makes the state financially stable and thereby boosts domestic investment.

Ondo state significantly increased revenue generated within the state from N8.68 billion in 2016 to N10.93 billion in 2017 and N24.79 billion in 2018. The low IGR in 2016 suggests that the state could hardly cover her recurrent expenses and at such was unable to pay up her expenses and workers’ salaries. But the story changed when Akeredolu assumed power and cleared the backlog salaries without borrowing.

This present administration, has distinguished itself from the previous administrations with its outstanding massive road construction and rehabilitation across the three senatorial districts.

According to report from the office of Ondo State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, in June, 2018, this administration approved N11.2 Billion for the commencement of the construction of approved road projects in the state.

Earlier, the Chairman UBEC Governing Board, Ugwueri Osondu, said the team were on advocacy visit and to find out if the programmes carried out by the Commission in the state are done according to specification.

He informed the governor that the Commission was concerned about the out of school children and sought the efforts of the state government to address the situation.

Osondu further added that the team were in the state to inspect the various UBEC projects across the three senatorial districts of the state, just as he encouraged the state government to continually work hand in glove with the Commission to be able to access more funds.

The UBEC Chairman who promised to continue to work with government to further improve education standard in the state, also emphasised the need for the government to employ more teachers to fill spaces in the schools and also to take the issue of e-Library serious.

Also, the SUBEB Chairman, Princess Oladunni Odu, stressed that the SUBEB has judiciously and effectively utilise the funds available to it.

“For 2013-2016 we are able to do 519 projects cutting across all the 18 Local Government Areas. In every Local Government you will see at least nothing less than 20 projects of SUBEB covering new construction, renovation, provision of boreholes, construction of perimeter fencing, provision of computers, provision of pupils furniture and teachers furniture.

“And in the new one, 2019 to June this year, we have executed 314 projects. So, Ondo state under Arakunrin is doing beautifully well in the basic education sector because he believes in solid education,” Odu stressed.

Ikale People Hail Akeredolu For Release Of 15 Detainees

The people of Ikale in Okitipupa and Irele local government areas of Ondo State on Saturday commended Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for releasing 15 of their kinsmen from Olokuta Medium Prison over land dispute.

The Jagunmolu of Ikaleland and retired Nigeria Army General, Dr. Oluyemi Bajowa (OFR), in a statement expressed profound gratitude for the decision of government on the release of all the detainees.

Bajowa, alongside other interest groups in the area, also commended the efforts of the Atere Panel for working out a “Peace Accord” in the flash point areas of Araromi-Obu and Ago Alaye.

Affirming that “The Ikale Traditional Rulers are in absolute control of the situation,” he assured of the willingness of the people to cooperate with the panel set up by the state government to ensure that lasting solution is preferred to the communal clash.

According to him, “All the Ikale people in the disputed border areas at the four corners of Ikale territory (North, East, West, and South), are enjoined to remain calm and keep the peace, while the Atere Panel is encouraged and assisted to address all other related matters, pertaining to the immediate and remote causes of the crisis.”

Bajowa, who is also the Ojagbulegun of Ile-Ife, felicitated with the families of those that were released and commiserated with the families of those killed in the fracas. He thanked all Ikale people for their support during the trial time.

“I congratulate Kabiyesi Oba Alayeluwa, His Royal Majesty G B Faduyile, the Ikale traditional rulers and all Ikale people at home and in diaspora, particularly the Ikale Assembly of Lawyers, for their patrotic solidarity in the ongoing Ikale land struggles.”

The two communities had been enmeshed in prolonged legal tussle for the past 15 years over land dispute which led to fracas on July 16, 2019 and wanton destruction of lives and properties after an Akure High Court judgment ruled in favour of the Ikales.

However, Governor Akeredolu who paid assessment visits to the communities, ordered curfew within 24 hours in Ago-Alaye, arrest of 15 persons, which included a 89 year old man, Ikupoluyi Omoseebi, in connection to the crisis and set up the panel.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that the patriarch, Omoseebi, was released three weeks ago while the remaining 14 persons arrested and detained in Olokuta were released on Friday evening.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, of Ondo State, on Friday, promised to give necessary support and provide an enabling environment for South African returnees of Ondo origin to start new lives.

Akeredolu, who received the returnees in his office, also presented cash gifts of N100,000 to each of the returnees for resettlement activities in their various communities.

Represented by his deputy, Agboola Alfred Ajayi, the governor particularly condemned the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other nationals living in South Africa by the indegenes.

He described the attacks as unwarranted, barbaric and condemnable.

Akeredolu commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his visit to South Africa to condemn the ugly incident and find a lasting solution to it.

He charged the returnees not to be discouraged by what had happened to them but to be ready to start a new life as they returned safely to Nigeria, their fatherland.

“We also have various windows of opportunities, including youths and women empowerment as well as agricultural and entrepreneurship programmes, among several others.

“Therefore, avail yourselves with any of them to better your lives,” he said.

According to Akeredolu, the returnees should not be hostile to any foreigner around them so that African countries can be a better place for all to live in.

The governor equally appreciated the management of Air Peace airline for conveying the returnees to the country, free of charge.

Earlier, Fola Olasehinde-Vincente, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Diaspora Affairs, commended Akeredolu for his kind gesture towards the returnees by ensuring they settled down peacefully and happily.

She enjoined the returnees to strive to reintegrate themselves into the society, urging them to eschew all forms of crimes in the state.

Govt Is determined To Take Care of Road Infrastructure Worries Of the People, Works Commissioner Assures

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye has assured residents of the State that the government of Governor Akeredolu will leave no stone unturned in its efforts to solve road infrastructure challenges confronting the people.

Mr. Ogunleye gave assurance when he inspected some of the ongoing projects in Akure metropolis.

The Commissioner said the government’s emphasis on road construction was deliberate as the sector serves all and sundry from the rich to the poor.

“Quality roads make life meaningful for all road users from vehicle owners to motorcyclists and pedestrians. They also remove the stress being experienced when conveyed through bad roads.”

Some of the areas inspected are the Oba Osupa road/Alafiatayo axis, Oda Dualization project and Ijoka axis, where construction works are in progress.

At Oba Osupa road, the Commissioner inspected the cross culvert under construction in front of the state hospital and the extent at which demolition of properties that are involved to evaluate for compensation to the owners.

At Ijoka road, Mr. Ogunleye inspected where the marking for removal of the shanties is in progress. He directed the contractor handling the road to fix a collapsed bridge, which is supposed to serve as an alternative route in the course of constructing the road.

At Oda road, the Commissioner resolved the main issue of total blockage of the road, which the road users had complained about. He directed the contractor to open up part of it for vehicular movement at peak periods for the road users.
He made it known to the public that two alternative routes have been provided at Appeal Court axis and SUBEB through Sijuade for the populace.

GOVERNOR AKEREDOLU ORDERS RELEASE OF ONDO MONARCH FROM PRISON AFTER NINE MONTHS

Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has ordered the unconditional release of Ogeleyinbo of Ayetoro community, Oba Oluwambe Ojagbohunmi (JP), from Olokuta Medium Prison after nine months of unlawful arrest.

Oba Oluwambe Ojagbohunmi was arrested and remanded in January.

The monarch alongside the Baba Ijo and the Public Relations Officer of the community, Mr. Lawrence Lemamu and Mr. Victor Akinluwa respectively, were hoodwinked to Akure by the police and detained nine months ago.

Akeredolu had frowned over the protracted remand of the monarch over a kingship tussle between him and Micah Ajijo in Ayetoro,a community in Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Council of Elders and Ayetoro Youth Congress (AYC), yesterday, jointly expressed the gratitude of the people towards the kind gesture of the governor to promptly intervene in the matter.

They thanked Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu “for his timely intervention towards the release of our people who were before now, unlawfully arrested and remanded at the Olukuta Medium Prison.

Speaking on behalf of the Council and entire community, Most Rev. Apostle Joshua Bankole, declared unflinching support for Akeredolu’s government and his future endeavours politically.

“We also seize this medium to tell Mr. Governor that, Ayetoro, being the most populous community in Ilaje LGA and her people would always be in support of Mr. Governor in all of his political dealings and we tip him to continue the good works that he has been doing in Ondo State since he came to power.”

Bankole hailed the governor for his relentless efforts to curtail the sea incursions “and also remind him that the devastation of the sea encroachment is high: it has destroyed hundreds of thousands of houses and properties.

“We therefore, humbly call on the governor to come to our rescue as Ayetoro is at the verge of being submerged by the Atlantic Ocean. Please, accept our sincere appreciation.”

Politics / 59th Independence: We Are Better Together – APC by Ashleyeniwin(f): 7:00pm On Sep 30, 2019
The All Progressives Congress (APC) felicitates with Nigerians on the country’s 59th Independence Anniversary.

We remember and salute our founding fathers who fought for the independence of our great country and also members of our Armed Forces, many of whom have paid the supreme sacrifice to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and keep our country united.

As a nation, we are better together than we are apart. Hence, we must be wary of those who hide under religion, politics, tribe and sundry groupings to turn us against one another. Despite our perceived differences, our strength and progress depends on our ability to harness our rich diversity.

In spite of the inherited and our current challenges, President Muhammadu Buhari administration has made commendable strides on so many fronts, most significantly the fight against graft, diversifying and revamping the economy, curbing insurgency and emerging crimes, promoting positive values in our national life, strengthening our democratic institutions and processes and achieving a respectable international standing.

Finally, we admonish well meaning Nigerians to engage only in acts that would heal our fault lines by promoting ethnic and religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence, which would engender Nigeria’s growth and development.

As Africa’s most populous nation, we can do much better, given our natural resources and potential. The President Buhari administration is committed to building on and affirming our Giant of Africa status.

Happy 59th Independence Day to all Nigerians.

Science/Technology / Nigeria Flying Labs South West Hub Launched by Ashleyeniwin(f): 6:59pm On Sep 29, 2019
In Nigeria, a group of local experts has launched Nigeria Flying Labs South West Hub to meet and foster the demand for digital entrepreneurship. The newly formed Flying Labs team is applying their expertise in drones, drone data, and geographic information systems (GIS) to empower local businesses and smallholder farmers. Already, the team has trained 100 youth in Ondo State in smart farming techniques and drone technology. In the months to come, it will organize additional training sessions and reach even more people, each of whom in turn has the power to generate exponential impact. Nigeria Flying Labs South West Hub is proud to build on the expertise of the global network of “Flying Labs” partners all around the world. It is equally pleased to use its unique knowledge to help Nigeria’s most innovative future entrepreneurs take flight.

So, what is Nigeria Flying Labs South West Hub? A regional hub of expertise and innovation, it works collaboratively with local communities to build skills and to give individuals the tools they need to succeed. It was formed as an alliance between Orbital Solutions Global Services Limited, which focuses on GIS, YUAVI Technologies Limited, a company specializing in aerial imaging, and the Ondo State Office of Innovation and Partnerships. This partnership is built upon a shared commitment to the best operational practices and the highest data standards. Within the scope of the alliance, YUAVI Technologies provides additional drone services and public sector partnerships while ION offers enterprise and human capital development to drive sustainability of drone service commercialization. The goals of the partnership with YUAVI Technologies Limited and ION include building local skills of digital entrepreneurs, catalysing businesses and creating demand for the skills of digital entrepreneurs. Nigeria Flying Labs South West Hub is led by Managing Director Adewale Adegoke, an expert in how geospatial technologies and data can catalyze economic opportunities for both the public and private sectors.

And what exactly does Nigeria Flying Labs South West Hub do? They empower local communities to excel in a rapidly changing modern era. Take those 100 youth who attended the team’s first training. By its conclusion, they were equipped to use drones to improve agriculture and, very soon, the Labs will build on this success to train an additional 50 youth in the same techniques, mentoring them to become digital entrepreneurs and to incorporate drones into e-extension services.

Once these skills are employed outside the classroom, Nigeria Flying Labs South West Hub scales humanitarian impact. They build partnerships between the public and private sectors, uniting key actors for a common goal. Together, the Labs and their partners incubate innovative ideas on how to interpret drone data for social good. F surveying and mapping local land to improve agriculture to human capital development, the Labs achieves quantifiable outcomes for its beneficiaries.

Nigeria Flying Labs South West Hub is dedicated to catalyzing new business and empowering local businesses. How? By mentoring digital entrepreneurs to partner with public sector agencies and generating demand for their skills in a sustainable business environment. To do so, the Labs uses its “droners’ platform” to establish market linkages between drone pilots and potential clients.
