swezenberg: Asoozy or na AsoogoatYou are right. I shed a tear for you. And yes, a broken clock is right at least twice in a day so she was right. |
oboman: The problem people have with Desmond Elliot's political ambition is Lagos State is because he hasn't been true to his identity.....I admire your patience at expressing simple common sense to simpletons. |
uzolexis: I no be guy o abeg. I'd prefer red wineI hope you feel a lot better after exercising your right to drivel. |
blasterman: But truth b said where r the professionals that went to good universities, that ran successful business .You see am too? This na business mata to this people. The point is, dey know they cannot win but they will definitely get some political appointment by virtue of contesting. That is how it works. It was never about serving for them. |
swezenberg: See as hatred is brewing in your mind that he is Yoruba. You will be shocked to see many Yoruba actors here in US movies everyday. By that time you will go and hang yourself. Who told you guys many don't even know he is Yoruba. Be living in fools' paradise. I'm sure you think Ramsey Noah too is Igbo. Bunch of tribalistic beastsEeyah...this mata pepper you wella. Abeg join the angry club, dem full ground berekete. |
IamChuks: Ramson NoahHis mother is Yoruba from Ondo state while his father is an Israeli. |
londoner: What makes him more Igbo then? Is it because he gets along and works with Igbos? Because he has not taken Igbos as an enemy? Because he does not have 100 Yoruba heritage?Ndo! I can't say I feel your pain sha. |
uzolexis: Nigerians and tribal sentiments i just don't get. what you should be concerned about is what are his plans to better the life of the masses not whether he has embraced his igbo or yoruba side. He is contesting that means he is qualified, what you should do is compare him to others who are contesting, their plans and all and pick the better candidate and stop arguing about what does not matter. would you rather have someone who is a yoruba tout? I'm not saying he is the best candidate and i'm just saying there are more important things to consider than arguing if he embraced his igbo or yoruba side. Our country will never move forward if we don't keep our tribal sentiments aside.Do you make I do me abeg. |
leo1234: You wey carry Yoruba for head like gala how market for your sideWe thank God o, markate dey move. |
londoner: He is as much Yoruba as he is Igbo. I doubt he dropped his Yoruba name to get into Nollywood, the Yoruba and no-Igbos in Nollywood are well known, accepted and celebrated. Dont forget, this is an industry that is open to Ghanaians too.If you say so. |
berem: Olu Jacobs is a yoruba man and acts Igbo films. I have never heard him speak yoruba not to talk of acting yoruba films. So do you classify him alongside Desmond Elliot who is half yoruba and half Igbo?Ok, but his first name has been Olu from time immemorial and that gives him immediate recognisable Yoruba identity. Moreso his wife Joke Silva has acted in Yoruba movies countless times. I don't think I would be having this conversation if Desmond had always been regarded as Sola Elliot. Even that Elliot sef get as I'm be. |
100Cents: Actors collect counted money unlike their counterparts in the music industry. That part was funny. ![]() |
ceejayluv: You made no point there, dude.So I was told. |
Olabode George. Notice that the English name did not outweigh the Yoruba name? But when as a supposed Yoruba man you choose double barrelled English name such as Olusola Desmond Elliot, you don finish yourself be that. Yoruba go just look you just call you ibo. The ones with English lastnames but with full blooded Yoruba parentage still dey struggle get recognition how e go come be for one with half Yoruba blood with double English name. F9 gedegbe! |
django1: What's the meaning of all these nonsense? You call something nonsense you come dey ask for meaning again? Clearly na you no get the brain cells to understand o. I no fit help you. |
Babymama1: This is the reason why the SW will continue to board last in tests coming behind Kano and soon KatsinaHoesisi na you be dis? How makate? |
handysuzy: The fact you have never heard him converse in Yoruba language doesnt make him any less a Yoruba man, and as for his movie roles, any actor can chose where they deem best for them to fit in. Ramsey Nouah is also Yoruba and you barely see him in Yoruba movie or speak the language. Kelvin Ikeduba is purely an Igbo guy yet he acts in only Yoruba movies and I have never heard him speak his native language. Mercy Aigbe is Edo yet she acts in Yoruba movies only and speak the language fluently. Desmond we all know speak only English. I have never heard him speak Yoruba or IgboYou make valid points. However you seem to have disregarded the fact that none of the aforementioned is seeking political relevance by virtue of their origin. Becoming a house of assembly rep necessitate you to exhibit your indeginous affiliation. Elliot though qualifies by his half Yorubaness has not convinced me that he is Yoruba at heart or in deed. He is more ibo to me and if the few responses on this thread are anything to go by, many didn't even know he was Yoruba to start with. Hence, he may just have lost legitimacy in the eyes if the voters that truly matter. I'm talking about the omo Ekos here. |
redsquare: What do you mean by "he has shot himself in the foot by embracing his Igbo side"? Has he ever come out to claim he is an Igbo man? Is it because he worked in an industry dominated by Igbo? How did he neglect his Yoruba origin according to you? Your argument is so lame and lack basis. Good luck to him.You are right. I haven't heard him denounce his Yoruba heritage but in the same vein, I have not seem him embrace it either. He was known as Sola by many before his adventure into Nollywood but in order to be accepted, he dropped his Yoruba name but suddenly, the dumbed down name now suddenly appear in bigger font on his campaign posters. Hahaha...he many have fooled you, but he certainly hasn't fooled me. I will vote 9ice before voting Desmond. To me, he does not even qualify as quarter Yoruba let alone an Omo Eko. |
handysuzy: I know of Lagosians with the names: Benson, Da Silva, Bernard, Coker, Fernandez, Peterside et al, all Yorubas. Desmond is Yoruba and he is more of Yoruba than Ibo.Let's agree to disagree. To me, he is ibo. Moreso, if he is capitalising on his nollywood fame, he had better be relying on the 90% ibo votes as Yoruba movie fans will vote 9ice an Ogbomosho man before voting a supposed Yoruba man who acts more ibo. How many times have you heard the man speak Yoruba or even acted In Yoruba movies? He is just a charlatan. Take advantage of his half Yorubaness because Yorunaland is progressing while on the other hand he had milked his Igbo side to his Yoruba detriment. |
handysuzy: His father is Yoruba while his mother Igbo, as for his surname, I think he is a Lagosian, so am not surprised.I know that he claims that his father is Yoruba but Elliot is not a very well known name in Lagos. One thing is certain and that is he is not Awori so probably from a family of slave returnee or creole. He has shot himself in the foot by embracing his Igbo side when it suited him in neglect of his Yoruba origin so he should not be allowed to take all by some claim of half lagosianism. He is more ibo than Yoruba, end of! |
His name don already disqualify him. He better revert back to his Yoruba last name. Moreso he is half Igbo. Yeye dey smell so now he remembers his real first name? When he needed to get into nollywood he discarded his Yoruba identity so as to be accepted fully into the ibo industry. Nonsense and alubosa! He is not even married to a Yoruba o. |

Yoruba? say u are kidding me....
