before posting this rubbish on this forum, go and confirm the percentage of igbos and ijaw in yorubaland and the populations of xtians in your north. The truth is, APC's undoing is number of moslems in their fold. This is Nigeria and religion plays a role in our politics. Thanks

As the poster Walelavender reminded bigots like yourself, religion did not play a part when Abiola and Kingibe who were both Muslims, vied for presidency in '94. Did you ibos stick chewing gum over your eyes to this fact then?

Keep bigotry to your region. The Southwest isn't buying your bad market.

wirinet:
Fielding Okorocha as a vice presidential candidiate would be political suicide for APC. The Igbos hate APC so much that they would not vote APC even if they give them the presidential ticket. APC should forget South East votes, and concentrate on the South west, North east and north west. I think Amaechi would be a good option and he is has some popularity in the south south and he is liked in the south west.

Amaechi will not get 10% votes from SS because the region is a PDP stronghold and the SS people are falling for the religious division hook, line and sinker.

While the Yorubas might have a soft spot for Amaechi due to his victimisation by Jonny and his wife, he does not and can never enjoy the magnitude of goodwill that Fashola enjoys in the whole of the west and the North and even SS.

If truly APC is ready to send Jonny into an indefinite coma and is serious to get the reins of power, Fashola is the only guaranteed hope. Field any other southerner and you give Jonny the absolute impetus to rig and rug massively he will.

Fashola is the only candidate that will make it impossible for PDP to rig the southwest. Anything short of that and we should be congratulating Jonathan on his win in advance.

Yes, yes. This reminds me of how the ibos massively voted for ojukwu when the saw the name of their first son on a ticket.

Total hogwash!

Chiwude:
Your permutations are not far from the truth honestly. But, APC can turn the tide around only if they drop sentiments when presenting their Presidential/VP candidates for the election. It is no longer a secret that the north-west vote will be sliced 70/30 in favour of Buhari. While 60/40 in the North/East and 65/35 in the North-Central favouring PDP respectively. Coming down South, one should expect a 60/40 votes for APC in the South/West (even if a Yoruba candidate is fielded) the reasons are obvious. While in the South/South a collossal 98/2 votes in favour of PDP.
Now, this is the part I think GEJ would definitely want to leverage on - the South/East vote. You will recall that the major reason GEJ floored Buhari in the 2011 election was to a large extent the overwhelming block vote he got from Ndigbo nation-wide. The South-East vote as it stands will be the determinant factor to who becomes President come 2015. If Buhari plays his card well by picking an influential Igbo VP, then it would be most certain that he would be sworn in as President next year. There is no two ways about it. Within 48hrs Ndigbo seeing their son in a campaign poster for either President or VP would surely reconsider where their interest lies. A vigorous campaign in the S/East by the suppose Igbo VP and the APC entourage will do the magic swinging the votes in Buhari's favour and dismantling GEJ believed strong-hold. Opinions that would mould the voting pattern of Ndigbo would be shaped to where lies its interest and the feasibility of an Igbo president in the years to come, unless GEJ decide not handing over to a northerner and secretly signs a pact to pick an Igbo man for President come 2019 - an idea I think he hasn't considered yet, due to the number of ass lickers with the tag 'Igbo Leaders' who have decided to selfishly sell their birthright for the spoils in government (Peter Obi inclusive).

It is understandable for Akande to dwell on political appointments as he is part of the political class but what has holding political office done for the ordinary people?

The far-North is a prime example. Years of dominating political positions have done nothing have done nothing for ordinary people in the far-North.

We know that. However in a heterogenous nation like Nigeria, a unity promoting government will practise a government of representation and inclusion, exhibiting federal character and not one being practised by this divisive one.

Yoruba is too important in Nigeria's politics to be relegated and Jonathan did this only to humiliate us. However, he forgot that when it comes to politics, we produce masterstrokes and always checkmate the opponent.
Politics / Re: 2015: Buhari, APC Woo Okorocha For VP by Asoozy: 9:14am On Oct 16, 2014
But Adeboye and his likes are part of the problem of not just Yorubs politically but Nigeria as a whole. These religious charlatans will not want a government that will start placing tax on their dubious earnings. They need the status quo to remain so they are die hard supporters of this corrupt government. They will be unyielding towards any idea to free the masses from mind control because this is what gives them their daily bread.

Forget about persuading any religious leader, it will get us nowhere.

Yorubas either open their eyes now or forever languish under Jonathan as a result of subscribing to religious myopia.

If Yoruba were wise, it will not pander to any religious blackmail because we are religiously heterogeneous.

SamAfrik:
I always like Obiageli's contribution on NL, but I don't know why you are giving Ondo & Ekiti to Jonathan, governorship elections regardless. I don't think an Igbo man (sorry to say) should be on that ticket now. Anyone associated with APC has been tagged an outcast (we all know what Igbo progressives are experiencing here on NL). It shd go to either SS or SW.
As for fielding Fash. APC should undertake vigorous (& public if possible) consultation with Yoruba leaders including Christian leaders e.g Adeboye, Kumuyi, Oyedepo etc. They should only go ahead to field Fashola if Christians have been convinced of their reason to field him, otherwise they should look for other competent VP. Am afraid PDP may succeed in playing the religion card. We (yorubas) should not be overconfident and take our liberal outlook for granted.

Osi who?

I'm Yoruba and don't even know him. Why not just hand the key of Aso Rock to the drunken fisherman and not even bother about contesting, then?

This is not so hard, people. Th east that uses the religious mantra as a caveat and blackmail tool will not be voting Buhari so really all that should concern APC is to sensitising the Yorubas to this enemy's plan to divide our votes using religion as a bait.

Yoruba is the group to persuade here and not any other. All Buhari needs are block votes from the North and the SW. Jona can hold on to his SE/SS block.

Stop pandering to this religious bullsh1t! I am a Christian but if I know that fielding. Christian would mean automatic loss for APC because it has no popular Christian candidate in the mold of Fashola or Aregbe. I will vote five Muslim candidate whom I know have been tried and tested and are more than capable of doing a much better job than a Christian.

Yoruba cannot afford to get this wrong. Not now, not ever!

The only foreseeable spanner in the works for Buhari is if Yoruba Christians allow themselves to be persuaded by Ibo Christians and their corrupt so called men of God a'la Adeboye, Oyedepo et al who benefit from this corrupt government. We know that these so called MOG indirectly endorse and campaign for Jonathan through public laying of hands on his (Jonathan's head) or attending functions organised by the corrupt government or even accepting the corrupt man's birthday congratulatory message.

It is time Yoruba Christians exhibit their sophistication by not buying into the myopia of some divisive ethnic group who are bent on using religion as their last straw to realise their vendetta against the Yoruba state. Yorubas cannot afford to sit on the wall on this matter. Nigeria is divided and acting as one through the opium of religion and religious leaders' trickery will only leave us at the losing end.

Shun religion and vote for the future of your children. That you attend the same church with other ethnic groups does not mean that they are not envious of your enclave and want to run it over. This live and let live ideology can only take us so far. It is all about survival of the fittest so play this political game wisely and secure the best for your region. Shun religious blackmail!!!

Tinubu rejected the speaker of the house because Jonathan didn't give Yoruba any "key position" why should Yoruba settle for less? We are talking about Yoruba here! One of the "BIGGEST 2" I would reject it too!

Jonathan hates Yoruba and knew we would reject his political insult but, stick it to us anyway, and we rejected it!

Jonathan shared all the food and scraped the burnt bottom of the pot for Yoruba to eat, sorry we deserve better than that! Don't worry your people will be given the speaker position soon, the chicken is coming home to roost!

What baffles me about this cantankerous president is the fact that he treats us shabbily but still think in his deranged mind that we will turn around and return him to Aso Rock. I think the both? It's obvious that both are Muslims. And APC currently have no intention of fielding a Muslim/Muslim ticket. Doing so will give GEJ a stroll in the park.

Religion should not be a criteria if Buhari is seeking to secure majority of his votes from the North and the SW. The north will vote Buhari (guaranteed) and the west will vote Fashola at the drop of a hat based on his antecedents. I don't think foreign religions matter to the Yorubas as their cultural identity does. You will find all religion in the Yoruba family so they tend to base their decisions more on merit than anything else. Of course Fashola being a Yoruba man is an added advantage.
