A High Court in Akwa Ibom State has issued an interim injunction restraining the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Lands and Water Resources, the Attorney General, and the Akwa Ibom State Government from any activities on the Ekpri Nsukara Offot Community school land, pending the resolution of a legal dispute. The order, granted on Thursday, December 12, 2024, by Justice Joy I. Unwana of the Uyo Judicial Division, followed a motion Ex-Parte filed by the Ekpri Nsukara Offot Village through their Counsel, Samuel Ikpo, Esq., in suit no. HU/306/2024. In the interim injunction, the Court directed the Defendants and their representatives to refrain from entering the 4.321-hectare parcel of land, delineated in Survey Plan No. JEJ/AK/75576, or carrying out any activities on the land until the hearing of the Motion on Notice, scheduled for December 18, 2024. The community had approached the court on August 9, 2024, citing concerns about alleged attempts to take over their land, which hosts the Ekpri Nsukara Offot International Schools (ENISCO). The situation escalated on December 4, 2024, when individuals reportedly acting on behalf of the Ministries entered the school premises during school hours and dismantled parts of the perimeter fencing and adjoining structures. Prompt action by the Village Head, Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo, and the school's Principal, Elder Domingo Bassey Etim, prevented the situation from escalating further. According to Eteidung Asikpo, the community had not been notified about any acquisition plans, nor had they received compensation or formal communication from the government. He appealed to the state Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, to intervene and ensure a fair resolution that would protect the community’s educational institution. Despite being served with court documents, the Defendants have yet to make an appearance or file a defense in the case. The community continues to express hope for a peaceful resolution through the judiciary.

A High Court in Akwa Ibom State has issued an interim injunction restraining the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Lands and Water Resources, the Attorney General of Akwa Ibom State, and the Akwa Ibom State Government from further actions concerning the acquisition of Ekpri Nsukara Offot Community's school land. The order remains effective pending the resolution of a suit filed by the community. The injunction was granted on Thursday, December 12, 2024, by Justice Joy I. Unwana of the Uyo Judicial Division, following a Motion Ex-Parte filed by the community through their counsel, Samuel Ikpo, Esq. The court directed that no activities should take place on the disputed 4.321 hectares of land until the substantive motion is heard. The court's order reads: "An Order of Interim Injunction is hereby issued against the Defendants/Respondents, restraining them, their agents, servants, workmen, and any other persons acting on their behalf from entering the Claimants/Applicants’ parcel of land situated at Ekpri Nsukara Road, Ekpri Nsukara Offot, Uyo, measuring 4.321 hectares as delineated in Survey Plan No. JEJ/AK/75576, or undertaking any activities thereon, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice." The hearing has been adjourned to December 18, 2024. The Ekpri Nsukara Offot community approached the court after several alleged attempts to forcibly acquire the land, where the Ekpri Nsukara Offot International Schools (ENISCO) is located. The most recent incident occurred on December 4, 2024, when officials reportedly demolished parts of the school’s perimeter fence and adjoining structures during school hours, causing significant tension. Quick intervention by the village head, Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo, and the school principal, Elder Domingo Bassey Etim, averted a potential clash. The community lamented the lack of official communication or compensation regarding the acquisition. The village head expressed concerns that the actions of those involved might be driven by personal interests rather than public good. Eteidung Asikpo has called on Governor Umo Eno to intervene and ensure that the matter is resolved amicably, preserving the community’s school and fostering trust between the government and its people. Despite the court proceedings, it was noted that the defendants have not made any appearances or filed statements of defense. The Ekpri Nsukara Offot community hopes for a peaceful resolution to safeguard their school and prevent further escalation of the matter.

Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr The Akwa Ibom Unity Forum has publicly retracted and apologized for false allegations made against the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Professor Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, following a petition submitted to the National Universities Commission in May 2023. Recall that during last year’s general elections in Akwa Ibom, the forum submitted a petition dated May 10, 2023, accusing Professor Nyaudoh Ndaeyo of suppressing records of an alleged expulsion of the then PDP governorship candidate in the state, by the University of Uyo. The petition further claimed that the supposed cover-up was politically motivated and influenced by the prevailing political climate at the time. However, at a press conference held today in Uyo, the forum, led by Hon. Uko Idiong, Hon. Aniedi Iwok, and Hon. Charles Ndanyongmong, expressed deep regret for the damage caused to the reputation of Pastor Umo Eno, Professor Ndaeyo, the university’s integrity, and the broader academic community. The retraction, according to the forum, follows an internal review that revealed the claims made in the petition were unfounded and based on misinformation. After a thorough investigation, the organization admitted that all allegations were completely false and based on inaccurate information. “We deeply regret the distress and embarrassment caused to Professor Ndaeyo and the University of Uyo. The petition, based on misinformation, was an unfortunate episode for which we take full responsibility,” part of the press statement said The Forum also issued a public apology to the National Universities Commission, the Federal Ministry of Education, and other stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, who were impacted by the false claims. “We are committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and fairness in all our future engagements. This experience has reinforced our commitment to verifying information before making public statements or submitting petitions,” the statement further read. Meanwhile, leaders of the Akwa Ibom Unity Forum expressed regret over the incident, even as they acknowledged the valuable lessons learned. They pledged to exercise greater caution in the future and ensure that all information disseminated is thoroughly verified and supported by credible evidence.

Posted by Ubong Assam Jnr. The people of Ekpri Nsukara Offot Village in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have called on Governor Umo Eno to halt what they described as an alleged forceful takeover of the land hosting their only educational institution, Ekpri Nsukara Offot International Schools (ENISCO). Their appeal followed an incident on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, when individuals suspected to be state officials, accompanied by police officers and a bulldozer, partially demolished the school’s perimeter fence and adjoining buildings during school hours. The incident, which occurred at about 11:45 a.m., caused tension in the community and was only brought under control through the intervention of the Village Head, Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo, and the school’s Principal, Elder Domingo Bassey Etim. Speaking to journalists in his palace, Eteidung Asikpo condemned the demolition, describing it as "illegal and barbaric," especially since the community had initiated a court case against the Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, Lands and Water Resources, the Attorney General, and the Akwa Ibom State Government. He revealed that the case (HU/306/2024), filed in August 2024, is still pending, with no defense or appearance from the defendants. The royal father recounted how the controversy began on July 18, 2024, when a representative of the Commissioner for Agriculture informed him that the land had been marked for storing agricultural equipment. Despite requests for formal communication, none was provided. Subsequent attempts to take over the land included a notice pasted on the school walls and threats of demolition. The Village Head explained that the land, measuring 4,321 hectares, was unanimously donated by the community’s five families for the establishment of ENISCO in 2015. The project was approved by the state government through the Ministry of Education to cater to the educational needs of their children and neighboring communities. Since then, the school has produced students who have excelled in national examinations conducted by WAEC and NECO. He further noted that the state government had rehabilitated some classroom blocks in 2022, which were officially commissioned. “It is shocking that the Ministry of Agriculture would prefer to terminate this school for agricultural equipment storage,” he lamented. Eteidung Asikpo emphasized that the densely populated community, co-hosting the permanent site of the University of Uyo, has no alternative land for relocating the school. “We therefore plead with our amiable Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, to step into this matter and protect our school from extinction,” he said, urging the state government to respect the pending court case and engage the community in dialogue.

Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr. 27th November, 2024 His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno Governor, Akwa Ibom State LETTER OF CONDOLENCE I write on behalf of my family and Ibom Power Company to offer our deep condolences to you on the transition to the world-beyond of your dear wife and our First Lady, Late Pastor Patience Umo Eno. Though still a huge shock, we have come to accept the painful reality that we will never enjoy her physical, calming presence again. Her Excellency lived a life of virtues, and it is consoling that she lived for God and in service to humanity. She served the church faithfully and served Akwa Ibom State with love. It is true the words of John Steinbeck that "it is so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone": but we also agree with Thomas Campbell that "to live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die". As we stand with you in grief to lay her to eternal rest, let the destinies she helped to mould and the remarkable life she lived be your source of strength. May your family find comfort in God's love and hope in the promise of the Resurrection Morning. With deep sympathies, Engr. Etido Inyang

Posted by Ubong Assam Jnr Following the very disturbing video showing students being fed unpalatable and innutricious meals at Presbyterian Senior Science College, Ididep, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, I paid an unscheduled visit to the school. I have directed a comprehensive investigation into the state of boarding facilities in the school and the other 25 boarding secondary schools across the state. This review, which will focus on hostels, dining halls, recreation areas, menus, kitchens, and sanitary facilities, will be jointly overseen by the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Education and the State Secondary Education Board. Consequently, I have also directed the immediate suspension of the Principal of the school, Dr. Nse Sunday Umoh, pending the outcome of the investigation. Despite the fact that the free education policy of the state government covers tuition fees only and not boarding fees, the welfare and dignity of all students, especially those in public schools, remain a priority of the Umo Eno-led administration. We appeal to parents who have already been greatly relieved of the burden of tuition fees to fulfill basic parental responsibilities by supporting their children in secondary schools. The Ministry is committed to ensuring that all public school facilities meet irreducible minimum standards that uphold the well-being of both learners and staff. We urge the public to remain patient while this investigation lasts. The Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, remains unwavering in his commitment to education, as outlined in the ARISE Agenda. Signed: Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet Honourable Commissioner

By Henshaw NYONG, Uyo Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr, Lagos Participants at the just concluded 3rd Agribusiness Roundtable and International Conference have been empowered and urged to adopt global best practices to transform the agricultural sector in Nigeria and beyond. The three-day conference, organized by the Nigeria Agribusiness and Agro-Industry Development Initiative (NAADI), gathered experts and stakeholders from across the globe, including countries like Indonesia and Thailand. The epoch-making event which held from October 27 to 29 at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Akwa Ibom State, provided a collaborative platform for addressing critical challenges in agribusiness. A communiqué issued at the end of the roundtable highlighted the critical need for sustainability and resilience in agriculture. Experts stressed the importance of climate-smart agricultural techniques, robust food systems, and sustainable farming practices to effectively address climate change, resource scarcity, and evolving consumer demands. They stressed that a shift is necessary, urging farmers to join cooperatives and formal business networks rather than working individually. They also underlined the need to make agriculture a mainstream economic sector, highlighting subsidies as a critical support to elevate farmers from subsistence to a more commercially viable operation. On harnessing technology for growth, agritech innovations, including data analytics, precision agriculture, and digital platforms, were highlighted as essential for increasing productivity and market access. The conference called for significant public and private investment to facilitate the adoption of advanced technologies that can drive growth within Nigeria’s agricultural landscape. On building inclusive value chains and fostering collaborative partnerships, stakeholders advocated for creating equitable and inclusive value chains that empower local farmers, generate employment, and stimulate rural economic growth. They emphasized that partnerships between governments, businesses, researchers, and farmers are essential for overcoming agricultural challenges and achieving sustainable development. On access to inputs, finance, and markets, stakeholders and experts noted that limited access to financial resources and agricultural inputs, such as improved seedlings and fertilizers remains a significant barrier to large-scale production. To address this, they recommended streamlining financing processes and broadening access to development bank funds for farmers. In the same vein participants highlighted the importance of global market access through agreements such as the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), urging diplomatic efforts to renew AGOA and boost Nigerian agribusinesses' presence in international markets. On the commitment to sustainable growth, various experts advised participants and exhibitors to push for supportive regulatory frameworks and adopt sustainable practices that enhance productivity while preserving natural resources. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Planning Committee and South-South Zonal Coordinator of the Nigeria Agribusiness and Agro-Industry Development Initiative (NAADI), Howard Usen told Newsmen that the conference served as a critical platform for idea exchange, partnership-building, and a shared resolve to advance Nigeria's agricultural sector in line with global standards.

Declaring the Federal Government’s firm commitment to the sector, Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari, underscored President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s focus on driving agriculture as a viable business to boost economic growth and secure food sustainability. Kyari highlighted the government’s strategic investment incentives, designed to promote a stable economic environment for both local and foreign investors. Kyari praised the timing of the conference, saying it aligns with President Tinubu’s recent state of emergency on food security, aimed at advancing an agricultural revolution and driving industrialization for wealth and job creation. The Minister further reiterated that the Federal Government is committed to enabling policies that strengthen the agribusiness economy, addressing domestic food security, wealth creation, and encouraging private sector investment. Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr., Lagos The wife of the former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Her Excellency, Chief (Mrs.) Atim Etim Okpoyo, has commended Governor Umo Eno for inaugurating the new 2.9km Urueoffong-Utuku-Ibotong Road, describing it as a positive step toward enhancing infrastructure within Urue Offong/Oruko. It will be recalled that Chief (Mrs.) Atim Okpoyo notably represented Akwa Ibom as a delegate at the 2014 National Conference. The Septuagenarian noted that the newly completed road, which connects various communities, is expected to stimulate economic growth by facilitating the movement of farmers, traders, and residents. The former Deputy Governor's wife, who apparently referenced Luke 16:10, which reminds us that showing gratitude for small blessings attracts abundant ones, appealed to the Governor to consider the Eyobiasang Road project, which leads to the beach. She described it as vital to the local economy, serving as a major economic hub for Urue Offong/Oruko, just like the Ibom Deep Seaport. Addressing the people, Governor Umo Eno announced that better days await the people of Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area, promising that the new 2.9km Urueoffong-Utuku-Ibotong Road is only a gateway to more road projects in the area. Pastor Eno, represented by his deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, said the road is the first constructed for the people of Urue Offong/Oruko by the state government, promising it will not be the last, as this administration plans to construct more roads in the Local Government Area. According to him: “For instance, the road which connects Oruko Junction with Eyobiasang Beach, along with other important roads in this Local Government Area, is in the government’s plan. “So far, the Model Health Centre in Eyulor is nearing completion, while the construction of a model school allocated to this Local Government Area will commence soon. “We had earlier handed over a Compassionate Home to a beneficiary in Eyo-Eyekip, and another will be handed over today.” Governor Eno, however, reassured the people of the administration's commitment to rural transformation, as encapsulated in his ARISE Agenda, and appealed for continued support.

Written By Henshaw NYONG. Posted by Joshua ASSAM Jnr, Lagos As the clock ticks down to the 3rd Agribusiness International Conference, scheduled to hold in Uyo from October 27 to 29, 2024, one name stands out, Dr. Howard Usen, the South-South Coordinator of the Nigerian Agribusiness and Agro-Industry Development Initiative (NAADI). Dr. Usen, who is leading the planning committee, has become a driving force behind the much-anticipated event, which promises to put Akwa Ibom State on the global agribusiness map. In a recent press briefing, Dr. Usen highlighted his dedication to agricultural transformation in Nigeria, drawing attention to NAADI's role in reshaping the sector. Established in 2010 under the African heads of state and with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), NAADI’s mission is clear — to revolutionize agribusiness across Africa. Dr. Usen, being at the forefront of this initiative in the South-South region since 2010, has been relentless in pushing for sustainable agricultural practices. But beyond his official capacity, Dr. Usen brings a personal passion to his work. As an accomplished author, he has published books through Eurobooks UK, alongside some of the most influential figures globally. Despite his achievements in writing, his heart remains firmly in agriculture. Since 2016, he has been a strong advocate for organic farming, securing funding from the Swiss Agency for National Development to promote organic practices across Nigeria and other African nations. As the current National President of the Bio Pesticides Society of Nigeria, Dr. Usen has taken up the mantle of advocating for reduced chemical use in farming, warning about the dangers of chemical buildup in the soil and its long-term effects on human health. “The upcoming Agribusiness Conference in Uyo will be a game-changer for Akwa Ibom State,” Dr. Usen confidently declared. He pointed out that the event will not only boost the state’s economy but also highlight Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, which places a strong focus on agriculture. “His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, is a leader with a vision for agriculture, and this conference will show the world what Akwa Ibom has to offer. We are proud to align with his vision for a brighter agricultural future.” The conference is expected to attract high-profile participants, including the Minister of Niger Delta Development, the Minister of Agriculture, and representatives from various states in Nigeria. Dr. Usen shared exciting details about how the conference will foster trade between northern and southern Nigeria. “We’re looking at a situation where trucks bringing rice or beans from Kano or Katsina won’t return empty. Instead, they will go back with palm oil, fish, or crayfish from Akwa Ibom. This is a win-win for everyone involved, creating a thriving trade ecosystem.” One of the key highlights of the conference will be the unveiling of the Center for Innovative and Sustainable Agriculture (CISA). Dr. Usen explained that CISA, developed in collaboration with UNIDO, will revolutionize agricultural research and capacity building in Nigeria. “This center will not just serve Akwa Ibom but will benefit the entire country. We’re talking about addressing critical issues like product quality and sustainability, and this is something we’re proud to showcase at the conference.” Dr. Usen also took time to commend the efforts of Dr. John James Etim, the Commissioner for Trade and Investment in Akwa Ibom. “Dr. Etim has been working tirelessly to promote agribusiness in the state. He personally visited my office in Abuja to explore how we could collaborate and build synergies. His approach is very forward-thinking, and we’re confident that his efforts, combined with the leadership of Governor Eno, will make this conference a huge success.” With the 3rd Agribusiness International Conference just days away, the spotlight is firmly on Uyo. The event promises to not only boost Akwa Ibom’s profile but also contribute significantly to Nigeria’s agricultural development. Under the leadership of Dr. Howard Usen and with the support of the state government, Akwa Ibom is set to become a hub for agribusiness, attracting investors and stakeholders from across the country and beyond. This is more than just a conference; it’s a step towards transforming the future of agriculture in Nigeria. NYONG is a Publisher, Media Consultant and Brand Strategist; 08022878104

Posted By Ashley Adetunde - LAGOS An Akwa Ibom-born stockbroker with 23 years of experience, Mr. Sunday Moses Ibanga, has raised concerns over N20 billion in unclaimed shares from his two companies, Harmony Securities Limited and UIDC Securities Limited, both registered members of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Speaking with newsmen at his office located at 205 Aka Road, Uyo, Mr. Ibanga revealed that both Harmony Securities and UIDC Securities, licensed broker-dealers, have launched new platforms to help investors track and unlock outstanding and unclaimed dividends from banks, financial institutions, and companies across Nigeria. Ibanga noted that many investors, some of whom have passed away, have left behind unclaimed shares, with their families often unaware of these investments. He shared examples of clients who, after visiting his office, discovered and recovered shares worth hundreds of millions of naira. His words: "What I aim to achieve by speaking to the media is to enlighten the public about dormant investment portfolios—investments that are lying low, untouched, and untapped. We have close to N20 billion worth of investments here, waiting to be claimed by their rightful owners. This includes unclaimed shares, unclaimed dividends, and other financial instruments like debentures. Many investors, or their heirs, are unaware of how to realize returns on these investments. Whether your father or mother invested and has since passed away, or they are unable to claim these shares, come in. We’ll conduct a search for you." Mr. Ibanga assured that once people approach his companies, they will ensure the reconciliation of their investment portfolios, recovery and dematerialization of share certificates, retrieval of outstanding bonuses and dividend warrants, revalidation of expired dividend warrants, and consolidation of multiple shareholding accounts with the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS). He further emphasized that Harmony Securities and UIDC Securities are well-positioned to help clients navigate the complexities of reconciling their portfolios, putting them back in control of their investments. Meanwhile, data obtained from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) shows that unclaimed dividends in Nigeria’s financial market have risen to over N215 billion. Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr. The attention of Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, CFR, has been drawn to a mischievous news reports alleging his involvement in a leadership tussle in Midim Clan in Abak Local Government Area. A press release by the State TRC, said "The report published by the online news outlet, Newsieevents.com on Monday, October 21, 2024, went further to claim that the Akwa Ibom revered premier monarch has waded into the said dispute in Midim Clan. This is nothing but a figment of the writer's imagination. The statement added, "The poorly written news reports went on to fabricate utter falsehood by insinuating that the Premier Monarch “has appealed to Governor Umo Eno to revoke the certificate of the Midim clan head in Abak LGA, which was mistakenly bestowed on Chief Paul Ebong.” "Again, the news medium erroneously claimed that Ntenyin Etuk “insists that the rightful heir to the clan council of Midim Clan in Abak LGA is Chief Sylvester Ibanga, who was unanimously selected by the community chiefs.” "We wish to emphatically state that such assumption by the mischief makers, alleging the involvement of the President General of the State’s TRC in the said contention in Midim Clan is entirely misleading, untrue and fallacious since no such matter has ever been brought before him for mediation at all. "To this end, Ntenyin Etuk has called on the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the general public to disregard such spurious news report on Midim Clan as it is concocted to satisfy the whims and caprices of its sponsors. "For the sake of clarity, the news medium also erred by addressing the Premier Monarch incorrectly as “Chief Ntenyin Solomon Etuk” in their said report, which shows complete disregard or naivety about the person it was even referring to altogether. "Accordingly, the office of the President General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers wishes to make it clear that there are extant laws covering all aspects of the traditional institution in the state in which offices, such as that of a clan head are included. Therefore, ascension to any office is subject to the law and where necessary, the convention as adopted by communities concerned. "Therefore, trying to rope in the President General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers in a matter he knows nothing about amounts to disrespect and we wish to warn that such callous acts will not be tolerated any longer, no matter who is involved. "We therefore appeal to the media and members of the public to always seek appropriate clarification on any chieftaincy matter of interest firstly from the Paramount Ruler whose local government area is involved and secondly, the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers to avoid making baseless assumption or publishing libelous contents."
