PoliticsAkpanobong Group CEO Exposes Umo Eno's Govt In Akwa Ibom by Assamjnr(op): 8:53am On Oct 24, 2023
Posted by Seun Abimbola, IKEJA.

Otuekong Evans Akpanobong, President of the Akpanobong Group - a dynamic and diversified conglomerate with interests in oil, gas, shipping, finance, and construction - has spoken out about the impressive progress made by Governor Umo Eno in Akwa Ibom.

The Mkpat Enin born business mogul while fielding questions yesterday from Journalists and Bloggers in Uyo, the State capital, said, as a stakeholder in Akwa Ibom, he has assessed the Governor’s 100 plus days in office, and can confirmed that he has recorded unprecedented achievements beyond the expectations of the people of the state.

His words: "His Excellency the Governor hit the ground running since he took office, and his gargantuan achievements in just 5 months have been nothing short of extraordinary.

"Between May 29 and today, this Christ-centric leader has touched all areas in his blueprint and every nook and cranny of our state has felt the fresh breathe of his ARISE Agenda."

The former Mkpat Enin Chairmanship aspirant under the platform of PDP, specifically eulogized Governor Eno for the recent release of a whooping N4.6 Billion for payment of the outstanding arrears owed to retired teachers, local government workers and civil servants in the state, and for providing palliatives to help cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

The President of Akpanaobong Group also lauded Pastor Eno for the massive remodeling work ongoing at the Christ the King (CKS) Primary School, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo, as well as approving the remodeling of one Primary School each in the 10 Federal constituencies of the State.

Otuekong Akpanabong said he was also impressed by the governor's initiative to transform Ndiya Street and the Akpan Andem market, noting that, "the street was once an eyesore, but through the governor's efforts, it has been revitalized and now shines like a beacon of hope. Additionally, the provision of solar lighting, water supply, and modern toilets in the market has improved the lives of the traders, and will continue to benefit them for years to come."

He added: "I've also been struck by the governor's compassion for the small-scale vendors selling their wares on the roadside across the State. The governor has taken the time to stop and talk with these individuals and understand their needs, and he has even gone so far as to empower them with resources and opportunities. This is a true example of leadership that is both visionary and compassionate."

Answering a reporter's question on how he intends to support Pastor Eno's ARISE Agenda, Akpanobong, whose company recently performed a modern-day miracle by turning the Calabar Power Plant's old, weathered turbines into gleaming, brand-new works of art, revealed the secrets of how Ibom Power Plant can achieve greater efficiency and productivity.

Armed with a wealth of experience and expertise, Akpanobong is certain that he can use his skills to generate a large amount of revenue for the State. According to him, this would not only create jobs for young people and improve their future prospects, but also make Akwa Ibom a cynosure of all eyes across African continent

He however, appealed to those who are still furious over the outcome of the 2023 general elections to set aside their anger and support the Governor's programmes as encapsulated in his ARISE Agenda.

PoliticsSenate Retreat: Senators Are Comfortable, Savouring A'ibom Hospitality - Karimi by Assamjnr(op): 4:40pm On Oct 20, 2023
By Ubong ASSAM Jnr

Chairman, Senate Services Committee, Sunday Karimi, has described as blatant lie and outright misinformation stories peddled by some highly compromised social media platforms that Senators at the ongoing Senate Retreat in Uyo have been left stranded and abandoned.

Speaking with the media at the ongoing retreat at the Four Point by Sheraton, Ikot Ekpene, the Kogi Federal lawmaker, said" we have read very spurious and false report in some online media platforms, purporting that Senators at the ongoing retreat have not been accommodated nor taken care of. That is not true. It is big fat lie."

According to Karimi, " No Senator is stranded as erroneously and mischeaviosly peddled. We are all fine in Uyo and the Retreat is going on as planned. All of us are fine and no one is angry. We are having our fun as well as attending the various sessions of the retreat."

"It is a cooked-up story intended to embarrass the leadership of the Senate by fifth columnists. Members of the public should please disregard this sponsored story as it exists only in the minds of their sponsors and purveyors.

"We are here for serious business and no blackmail and lies would stop the forward looking 10th Senate under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio from doing what is in the best interest of Nigerians," he declared.

CultureAmended TRC Law: A'ibom Paramount Rulers From 3 Sen. Dists Set Record Straight by Assamjnr(op): 1:21pm On Oct 17, 2023
Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr.

Amidst the ongoing debate and confusion surrounding the amended Traditional Rulers Law, Cap.155 of 2022, the Paramount Rulers of the three Senatorial Districts of Akwa Ibom State have released a formal statement to clarify the facts and set the record straight.

A joint statement issued on Tuesday and signed by a total of eighteen (18) Paramount Rulers, addressed key issues and concerns surrounding the amended law.

It reads: “We, the Paramount Rulers, drawn from the three Senatorial Districts of Akwa Ibom State, to wit, Akwa Ibom North East (UYO); Akwa Ibom South (EKET) and Akwa Ibom North West (IKOT EKPENE) wish to formally react and put the record straight

“1. First of all, may we formally express our heartfelt appreciation to the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno for assenting to the amended Traditional Rulers Law, Cap. 155 of 2022; as passed by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. We equally extend our appreciation to the 7th Assembly for commencing the amendment processes and members of the 8th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for the passage of the law.

“2. In effect, the amended Law, which brought forth Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, has enhanced the prestige of the State Traditional Institution, thus situating our own appropriately at the realms of nobility as obtained in other parts of Nigeria.

“3. We stand therefore, individually and collectively, to categorically affirm the correctness of the amended Traditional Rulers Law, Cap. 155 of 2022.

“4. It would therefore be most dishonourable and unexpected of us as Royal Fathers to renounce or fake ill knowledge of what we all knew about and willingly accepted.

“5. In the light of this sacred fact, we totally disassociate ourselves from the inappropriate, misguided and unwholesome reactions orchestrated through protests, law suit and public statements against the amended Traditional Rulers Law, Cap 155 of 2022.

“6. Furthermore, it is to our chagrin to see the unpatriotic activities of some highly placed political figures who have decided to introduce uncharitable dimensions into a purely traditional matter. We kindly appeal to them to retrace their steps. Enough is enough of sowing discord between Ibibio, Annang, Oron and others.

“7. We wish therefore to urge our Royal Colleagues to tread the path of honour and avoid going against their oath of office and oath of allegiance to the Government of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria. It must be noted that the sanctity of our traditional institution should not be traded or compromised at the altar of politics.

“8. It must be pointed out that His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP, CFR has effectively assumed office as President General of the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers in perpetuity, having been sworn in by the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State on September 23, 2023. Likewise, His Royal Majesty, Odidem Bassey Etim Edet, Paramount Ruler of Udung Uko Local Government Area has assumed office having been equally sworn into office as the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on September 23, 2023.

“9. Those engaging in dishonourable acts against the Akwa Ibom State Government and the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers should know that the swearing into offices of the President General and the Chairman have effects of Law and cannot therefore be wished away by mere pedestrian actions and vituperations.

“10. We therefore congratulate and pledged our loyalty to the leadership of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers under the superintendency of His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP, CFR as President General and His Royal Majesty, Odidem Bassey Etim Edet, JP, Paramount Ruler of Udung Uko Local Government Area as as the Chairman.

“11. In conclusion, we urge the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Bassey Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and our distinguished sons and daughters at home and in Diaspora, to know that we totally accept the Amended Traditional Rulers Law, Cap. 155 of 2022 and the leadership as put in place on September 23, 2023.

“12. We pledge our unalloyed loyalty to the government in line with our oath of office and oath of allegiance and will always defend the sanctity of the culture and traditions of our people.”

“As we celebrate, it is worth reminiscing on the enchanting memories of the vision, selfless pursuits, dedication, sacrifice and faith of our forebears, traditional rulers and the successive leaderships of our People for the State creation. Through critical evaluation of our journey so far, we will be able to take our development further in line with the dreams of forebears.

“We hail our predecessors - the then Paramount Rulers, for their foresight in participating fully in the struggle and being the critical arm that signed the Memorandum of Demand for the State's Creation on February 25, 1978.

“Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers therefore joins in paying immeasurable tributes to all our leaders, past and present, who came together despite challenges to agitate and ensure the attainment of our current political status as a State in the Nigerian federation.

“Today, we stand tall for the tremendous infrastructural and human capacity developments carried out by successive administrations in the State,” he added.

The President General therefore heartily rejoiced with the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, the government and the people on the momentous anniversary of 36 years of Statehood.

He expressed joy that to take the developmental trend in Akwa Ibom to higher heights; Governor Umo Eno has launched a blueprint, christened the A.R.I.S.E. Agenda and therefore called for massive support to enable the administration to achieve its laudable goals.

Stressing the need for the well to do in the society to assist the underprivileged, he said leaders should learn to help one another, by being charitable and impactful on their respective peoples and communities, rather than perpetually living in denials with the untruthful excuses that they gain nothing in the positions they occupy.

Oku Ibom Ibibio also charged the indigenes and residents to live peacefully with one another, eschew politics of bitterness, religious and ethnic biases so as to build a united and prosperous State.

...Reveals how Signatures of Ward Exco Members were forged in a purported suspension letter

Posted by Marshall Kayode Jnr. Lagos

Our sources have confirmed that the rumours and speculations regarding the alleged suspension of the Chairman, Ikono Local Government Council, Hon. Nyakno Uwemedimo Okoibu, are false and were spread by political opponents seeking to undermine his reputation.

In a video which is now trending on the social media platforms, Ward Executive officers in Ikono Ward 1 stated unequivocally that at no time did they contemplate or discuss the suspension of the Council Boss.

Seen on the video were: Ward 1 Secretary of the party; Gabriel Ekanem Ekpenyong, Treasurer; Aniefiok Gabriel Okoko and Legal Adviser; Akwaima Effiong Bassey.

Others were: Youth Leader; Anietie Eyo Akpan, Mr. Edet Okon Bassey, Mrs Happiness Monday Ntokon among others.

The PDP leaders in Ikono Ward 1 noted that they have no knowledge about the alleged suspension letter and never authorized anybody whatsoever to generate such mischievous letter on their behalf.

The True Story:

In the video, the Ward Legal Adviser; Akwaima Effiong Bassey, on behalf of other party leaders in the ward divulge what transpired.

His words: "On September 3rd of this year, a meeting was called by the Ward Chairman (Mr. Saviour Nyah). During the meeting, which was held at his residence, he apologized for not meeting with the entire ward Exco since after the general elections. He entertained us and we took the opportunity to express our frustration with his continued deduction of 500 Naira from the 5 Thousand Naira stipend the Governor had been giving us.

"The Ward Chairman (Mr. Nyah) who alleged the deductions were to cater for what he termed 'transportation', apologized for his misdeeds and promised to never repeat them.

"It is important to note that all our meetings have attendance lists, which include our names, designations, and signatures. Therefore, we were shocked and dismayed to hear later that the purpose of our meeting was allegedly to suspend the Executive Chairman of Ikono, Hon. Nyaknno Okoibu.

"Now, the attendance list for a meeting in which we discussed the deduction of our monthly stipends was later misused to implicate all of us in an alleged plot to suspend Hon. Okoibu. However, we never discussed or agreed to such devilish plan, and the claim is entirely false. We want to make it clear that we are not responsible for this fabricated allegation.

"On behalf of all the PDP Exco in Ward 1, I would like to emphatically state that we did not meet to discuss, let alone enact, the suspension of Hon. Okoibu. He is a man of integrity and kindness, and has always acted in the best interests of the good people of Ikono. These false claims are not only untrue, but also deeply unfair to his character and reputation."

In another development, the Ward Executive Council of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikono Ward 1, has passed a vote of confidence on the Council boss; Hon. Okoibu, for his many achievements in securing the safety and prosperity of the local government area.

The Exco praised his efforts to empower the people, his unwavering support for the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, and his enthusiastic participation in all PDP activities in the ward and support for the party members, even as they affirmed that that Hon. Okoibu has the leadership skills and vision to continue serving the people of Ikono.

"The PDP Ward Exco has expressed its utmost confidence in Hon. Okoibu's commitment to the welfare and advancement of the people of Ikono. We commend his unwavering dedication to the success of the A.R.I.S.E Agenda of our dear Governor, and we believe that his leadership and vision will continue to benefit the entire local government area," said the leaders.

Executive Chairman, Etim Ekpo Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. Imeh Afia, has described the 100 days in office of Governor Umo Eno as richly rewarding, saying that the State Chief Executive has exemplified excellence in governance since assumption of office.

Full of enthusiasm and confidence in Governor Eno, the Etim Ekpo Chairman while exchanging views with Newsmen on Tuesday, said: "His Excellency our dear Governor; Pastor Umo Bassey Eno has hit the ground running since he took office, and his gargantuan achievements in the first 100 days have been nothing short of extraordinary.

"In just 100 days in office, our Christ-centric leader has touched all areas in his blueprint and every nook and cranny of our state has felt the fresh breathe of his ARISE Agenda."

The Chairman specifically eulogized Governor Eno for paying the outstanding arrears owed to retired civil servants and teachers in the state, and for providing palliatives to help cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

He noted that these actions demonstrate the Governor's commitment to improving the welfare of all citizens, particularly those who have dedicated their lives to serving the state.

The council boss heaped praise on Governor Umo Eno for his tireless efforts to connect with the people of Akwa Ibom, both in rural and urban areas.

He noted that the Governor has taken the time to stop and chat with those selling their goods on the roadside, and has even gone out of his way to empower these hardworking individuals.

The Chairman noted that the Governor's commitment to improving the lives of all people in the state, regardless of their background, is an inspiration to all.

Afia observed that even those who had previously criticized the Governor have come to recognize his efforts to improve transparency and accessibility. The Governor's willingness to engage with the public in a relaxed and approachable manner, according to the Chairman, has been commended, as he has shown himself to be a leader who is willing to listen and connect with the people he serves.

His words: "One of the key strengths of the Governor's leadership is his direct engagement with the people of the state. His Excellency has shown a willingness to meet with the public on the streets and answer their questions directly, rather than relying on formal channels of communication. This approach has been well-received, with many people expressing appreciation for the Governor's openness and accessibility."

Rt. Hon. Afia who opined that the Governor’s 100days in office has sent a clear message to the good people of Akwa Ibom that his ARISE Agenda is aimed at developing reconstructing and transforming the state, appealed to those who are still furious over the outcome of the 2023 general elections to set aside their anger and join hands with the Governor to develop the State.

He expressed his gratitude for the Governor's support and commitment to improving the lives of his people, and affirmed his own commitment to building upon this progress.

Nairaland GeneralArise Agenda Will Accelerate A'ibom Development, Says Village Head by Assamjnr(op): 6:11am On Aug 28, 2023

The village head-elect of Nung Oku Ibesikpo Village in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Eteidung (Pastor) Anietie Okon Edem has expressed confidence that the Arise Agenda of Governor Umo Eno will accelerate the rate of development in Akwa Ibom State.

Eteidung Edem said from a critical assessment of the Arise Agenda after its official lunch at the Akwa Ibom Dialogue held recently at Ibom Icon and Golf Resort, Uyo, it was very obvious that the administration of Governor Eno was mission-driven to bring impactful development to the 31 Local Government Areas of the State.

The village head-elect reiterated that as host of a number of State and Federal government projects, including Akwa Ibom International Worship Centre, Ibom 21 Storey Smart Building, Federal Government Incubation Centre, State Motor Park, Nung Oku Roundabout, Ring Road, among others, the community remains fully supportive of the Arise Agenda of Pastor Eno as all parts of the State stands to benefit immensely from it.

On the challenges facing by the Village, Eteidung Edem called on the government to provide perimeter fence at St. Athanasius Primary School, Nung Oku Ibesikpo as done in other schools within the capital city, to halt the spate of stealing and vandalization of school property by hoodlums.

Besides, he said the school was facing incessant flooding and called on the state government to desilt nearby drains so as to halt the environmental challenges at the institution and its environs.

He also appealed to Governor Eno to provide the thickly populated community with a functional Health Centre as the one currently used is located in a rented apartment.

"As a thickly populated community within the capital city, we need a government health centre. The one we have now is in a rented apartment and harbours other businesses which are not really conducive, especially for the handling of maternity and child care services," he added.

Eteidung Edem urged the state government to look into the undeveloped land acquired for a residential estate for serving and retired senior military and police officers within the community as the thick bush has become a den for criminals.

"Some time ago, the State government acquired a sizeable land in our community for development of Estate for serving and retired senior military and police officers. Unfortunately, the estate is yet to come to fruition. Criminal elements have taken advantage to use the land as operational bases. We appeal to Governor Umo Eno to look into this for the interest of the public," he explained.

He further raised an alarm that despite the State government ban on waste scavengers, the operators are still actively in business and have raised a dump site near the State Government Motor Park at Nung Oku Ibesikpo and have resisted all entreaties to quite the area.

Eteidung Edem appealed to "State Government to take action on this by building the earmarked market as slated for the location to checkmate its illegal conversion into other unwanted activities."

He congratulated the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong and the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Nsikan Linus Nkan for their re-appointments into the State Executive Council and thanked Governor Umo Eno for the confidence reposed in them.

In an effort to improve the lives of the most vulnerable people of Etim Ekpo, who have been hit hardest by the economic challenges caused by the fuel subsidy removal, the Executive Chairman, Etim Ekpo Local Government Council; Rt. Hon. Imeh Afia, has launched a special medical outreach for his people.

The outreach, according to the Chairman, is designed to provide medical care and treatment for those in need, and is funded by the Council.

Rt. Hon. Afia, who had earlier rolled out educational palliative for Etim Ekpo students in the tertiary institution, told newsmen yesterday during his unannounced visit to the General Hospital, Uruk Ata Ikot Ekpor, that the programmes were borne out of his desire to cushion the hardship being experienced by his people as a result of fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government.

The special medical outreach is a subsidy programme, where the Chairman has reduced the financial burden by paying a portion of the cost of medical procedures such as normal delivery, Caesarean section and antenatal.

Others include: malaria and typhoid fever treatment and drugs, test for diabetes, liver disease, blood sugar level, Hepatitis B, blood pressure among others

The Council boss, during the surprise visit to the General Hospital said: “My Leader in the State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, has shown the importance of first-hand information by visiting every project site by himself rather than simply receiving reports from his office.

"As one of the disciples of his ARISE Agenda, it was pertinent that I visit this Health Facility by myself so that I can better understand where our intervention is needed. This way, the Council will be more effective in helping to improve the lives of the people we serve."

The Chairman expressed the hope that his Council's special medical outreach will help to reduce the financial burden on families who are struggling to afford healthcare in the current economic climate.

Informing that his administration has given top priority to the health needs of the rural community, in line with the Governor's ARISE Agenda, Hon. Afia listed his achievements in the health sector to include several medical outreaches in the past among others.

Meanwhile, both patients and Health workers in the Hospital who were surprised to receive their unannounced visitor lauded the Chairman for the magnanimity and his consistent empowerment of his people as well as the lives he is imparting through his visionary and people-oriented programmes.

Many beneficiaries, when notified that their medical bills had been settled by the Etim Ekpo Local Government Council, shed tears of joy, even as they prayed God to bless the council boss and all the leaders in the State.

On his part, the Medical Superintendent of the General Hospital, Dr. Essiet Ime, who was flanked by his Secretary, the Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Officers and Nurses, said the Chairman's palliative has taken away the financial burden that would have been on the patients

Dr Essiet, specifically commended Rt Hon Imeh Afia for addressing security issues; incessant kidnapping, armed robbery and other vices in the area, maintaining that "Etim Ekpo is now peaceful."

The Medical Superintendent while soliciting for the Council's support for diesel to light up the General Hospital, warmly appealed the State government to post more professionals and other health workers to the General Hospital to continue providing quality care to the Etim Ekpo people.

In another development, Rt Hon. Afia yesterday, officially received the youngest but brilliant pupil; Patti-bless Cornelius Anthony of Destiny Standard School, Obong Ata Essien.

The exemplary pupil who displayed excellent performance in the march past during this year's Children's Day Celebrations, received the Chairman's award and massive cash prize.

Rt. Hon. Afia, in recognition of academic excellence and exemplary behaviour of three pupils of Hope Abound Nursery and Primary School, Utu Ikot Ekpo, also awarded another massive cash prize and the sponsorship of the school fees for the three pupils.

Commissioners, Special Advisers and other political appointees of the Akwa Ibom State government have been charged to take the opportunities offered by Governor Umo Eno to work conscientiously for the overall success of his administration.

The Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, CFR, who made the charge at the weekend in his Palace, stated that the lofty blueprint of Governor Eno as encapsulated in the Arise Agenda has to be implemented to bring about the desired development for the State.

Ntenyin Etuk, who spoke following the swearing-in of Commissioners and a Special Adviser, stressed that political appointees must see their appointments as a call to service, remain dedicated and work assiduously to enable the administration to achieve its set targets, which are very laudable.

"The administration of Governor Umo Eno has rolled out its blueprint as contained in his Arise Agenda. The entire team - the Commissioners, Special Adviser and other political appointees have to swing into action and do their bits with the fear of God.

"The appointment is a rare privilege and a call to public service. It is not for personal aggrandizement. We expect them to carry out their duties with utmost dedication, loyalty, honesty and purposefulness that will make Governor Eno's fine ideas crystallize as soon as possible," he stressed.

He further noted that the successful launch of Ibom Dialogue by Governor Eno, where stakeholders across all fields gathered to dissect the Arise Agenda enlightened the people about the enormous contents of his vision for the State.
"This is therefore a programme that we must all set aside political differences and embrace. The Arise Agenda is well outlined. There are lots of derivable. Those who have the privilege to serve in the government must live up to expectations," he added.

He further urged the political appointees to build strong synergy with their stakeholders, Village Heads, Clan Heads and Paramount Rulers as a way of relating the good plans and programmes of government and as well, get inputs from the people to build more trust and confidence in the government in line with the essence of democracy.

According to the A'Ibom Premier Royal father, when Commissioners and other appointees are far off from the grassroots, an unhealthy gap is created which makes the impact of government to be being less appreciated by the people.
The Patriarch of the Ibibios emphasized the need for the effective involvement of traditional rulers in the implementation of government programmes, particularly as it concerns people in the respective communities covering the siting of projects and agricultural schemes.

He stated, "We are the chief security in our domains and custodians of the culture of the people. We are always with the people and know their challenges. Our involvement in the activities concerning our people is very necessary."

Also, Ntenyin Etuk urged President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to increase the ministerial slot for Akwa Ibom State to two given the huge economic contributions to the petro-dollar earnings by the Federal Government.

He said the people of Akwa Ibom remain very grateful for the emergence of Senator Godswill Akpabio as the President of the 10th Senate, stressing however that that should not be used as a basis to deny the State of other benefits, as the position is for national service.

Following the submission of commissioners’ list to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has rejected possible reappointment of Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet as Commissioner for Education.

In a letter addressed to the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno and submitted to him on Friday July 20, the NUT also gave criteria on who should be appointed the commissioner for Education in the state.

Confirming the letter, the state chairman of NUT Edet Emenyi, in an exclusive interview with The Crest, decried the overbearing attitude of Etiebet, and warned that she is not fit to head the Ministry.

Although the chairman admitted that NUT only gave criteria on what should be the make up of the next Commissioner for Education, he noted that since Etiebet falls below the criteria, she is not qualified to mount the saddle again as Commissioner for Education.

“We don’t want her because of her past antecedent in the ministry and her past encounters with the teachers too. In some occasions she was embarrassing teachers. So with this, I would not want her to be rejected by teachers if reappointed because teachers have already sent messages to me, even staff of the ministry she worked with don’t also want her back.

“Mine is to represent the voices of the teachers and that is what I have just done.

“Eventhough in our letter we did not specifically or directly say she should not be sent to the ministry, but wrote are saying she should not be sent to the ministry.

“In our letter we said nobody who has not possessed the educational requirements or qualifications should be sent to the ministry. We had stated the person must be a PhD holder in education or Professor of Education so that he or she will understand the problems, nitty-gritty of education and be able to face it from the root.” The chairman said.

"The courtesy call was very warm and insightful.  We congratulated Senator Godswill Akpabio, former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, for his emergence as the Senate President of the 10th Senate and all the Principal Officers.

"We renewed our genuine request for legislation to be put in place to give backing to the critical roles played by traditional rulers in the country. We are the closest to the people at the grassroots. We live with our people which allows us to know the challenges of the communities and how to remedy them.

"As traditional rulers, our cooperation with the government at all tiers; the local government, State government and Federal Government are therefore very important for peace, unity and security to prevail for desirable development to take place. We will support the new administrations at the state and federal levels so that our people will feel the impact of government as expected," he explained.

The Oku Ibom Ibibio said Senator Godswill Akpabio was very happy with the delegation and that he, as his royal father, was part of the visit and expressed the readiness of the Senate to pay reasonable attention to their requests on the need to strengthen the roles of traditional rulers through the enactment of appropriate legislation.

"The visit to the Senate President was evocative. It was quite a fraternal setting. Senator Akpabio was very happy to receive the royal fathers and readily expressed his happiness to see me also being the Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council," he quipped.

In another development, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk has given the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno a pat on the back for adopting inclusiveness in his governance by reaching out to people across party lines.

"This is a very good development. He has shown that politics is over and has opened up his arms to embrace all, irrespective of political affiliations. This is very laudable and I urge politicians in Akwa Ibom State to embrace this laudable gesture by Governor Umo Eno and join hands with him in building a virile polity.

"My dear Akwa Ibomites, I urge all of you not to sit on the fence. Governor Umo Bassey Eno's peace-driven administration for economic prosperity is still boarding. It is waiting for peace-loving sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora to come on board for a united and prosperous Akwa Ibom State.

"Let me say that there's no more party politicking, but time to unite and build a new Akwa Ibom State. Let peace prevail," he stressed.

He further noted that the launch of Ibom Dialogue by Governor Umo Eno to create an open forum for stakeholders across all fields to dissect the ARISE Agenda of his administration for proper implementation was very commendable as it will usher in the anticipated development.

"The Governor has exhibited humility in governance with a clarion call for all to join hands in proffering solutions on the key areas of development of the State's economy.

"The policies of government can only be well implemented if we give maximum cooperation.

"I want to therefore call on our politicians to sheath the sword and support the administration of Governor Umo Bassey Eno," he advised.

The premier royal father further stressed the need for the Government at all tiers to involve traditional rulers in policy implementations concerning agricultural schemes and rural developments since they are better placed to offer usual inputs in the survival and protection of such projects.

***** ROLLS OUT PALLIATIVES FOR STUDENTS IN TERTIARY INSTITUTION

The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has received commendation for his good development agenda for the state and quality of his cabinet nominees.

The Chairman of Etim Ekpo Local Government Council; Rt Hon Imeh Afia, gave the commendation on Friday, while exchanging views with newsmen in Uyo, the State capital.

Apparently defending the State Chief Executive for maintaining the cabinet members of his predecessor, Rt Hon Imeh Afia, explained that, Governor Eno, being a member of the immediate-past State EXCO, has sufficient knowledge about the capacity of the Commissioner and Special Adviser nominees, thus, the Governor's choice should be respected.

"Permit me to state expressly clear and unequivocally that the cabinet list of His Excellency, Pastor Umo is composed of highly brilliant and vibrant personalities who will assist the Governor in translating his lofty programmes as enshrined in his ARISE agenda.

"These are men and women of proven integrity, tested, trusted and found fit to be able to translate the vision of the Governor in various Ministries and ensure the function of Governor moves on a fast lane.

"I hereby appeal to all Akwa Ibomites to please respect the constitutional right of the governor on his choice of cabinet members. Rather than vilifying him, please let's pray for him to succeed and support his government because Pastor Umo Eno means well for all of us," Hon. Afia noted.

Answering a reporter's question, the Council boss hinted that Hon. (Barr.) Emmanuel Enoidem, whom he referred to as his "Political Leader and Mentor" was never interested in becoming a State Commissioner as speculated in some quarters.

"Do you know what it means to rise to the position of the Legal Adviser of the leading opposition party (PDP) at the National level?" he asked rhetorically, adding: "the rumour that he lobbied to make the Commissioners' list is laughable. I speak authoritatively that, my leader and mentor; Barr. Emmanuel Moses Enoidem, never lobbied to make the list, no he did not.

"God has blessed Barr Enoidem so much that he doesn't have to lobby for anything; not to talk of a position of Commissioner that he occupied for about 9 years. Those that spread the rumour have no iota of idea about who Barr Enoidem is. His style of leadership in Etim Ekpo is surpassingly estimable and I tell you, such leaders are rare in our clime."

Afia used the occasion to thank the Governor for reappointing one of his Etim Ekpo kinsmen; Prof. Imo Moffat, assuring that the nominee will bring to bear his wealth of experience and add value to good governance in the State.

Meanwhile, Rt. Hon. Imeh Afia has become the first Council boss to roll out palliatives to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal on the people of Etim Ekpo, starting with students in the tertiary institution.

His words: "I know that things are getting harder because the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) has been removed and this has made transportation cost increase further.

“By the special grace of God, I have mandated a committee to look into what we can do urgently for other class of our people, but as we speak, more than 100 genuine students of Etim Ekpo in tertiary institutions have started receiving a token of Five Thousand Naira (N5,000) each, to ease their transport worries. The financial support is sent to their bank accounts directly.

"I know that everyone in Etim Ekpo is not a Student, so, in a few days time, my team will submit the report on the best palliative for our elders, farmers, youths and our market men and women," he added.

Imeh Afia who said Government at the third tier in Etim Ekpo has recorded tremendous successes owing to the support he enjoys from the Legislative Arm, Traditional Institution, Political Class, Churches, Students, Youths and women, pledged to add value to the ARISE Agenda of Pastor Umo Eno.

IPC BOSS REVEALS WHAT UNBUNDLING THE POWER SECTOR WILL DO FOR INVESTORS

Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr.

The Chairman, Ibom Power Company Ltd, Engr. Etido Inyang says it is a welcome development as the Federal Government has unbundled the power sector which will facilitate efficient power generation and distribution, as well as attracting more investors to the sector.

He said this recently during a media interface in Uyo.

According to him, "with the unbundling of the power sector by the Federal Government, states now can generate power, retain and distribute same."

He went further to state that the 'Ibom Utility Board' yet to be established will be the holder of the license for power transmission and it will behove on the State Government to facilitate the establishment of the said board which will be operated on a legal framework to guide its operations.

On the issue of backlog of staff salaries in the company, the Chairman of Ibom Power Company said the matter will soon be resolved as steps have already been taken to handle it. He explained further that the backlog of staff salaries arose from the financial hitches in the release of funds from the Federal level to the Company over a period of time. Also, he expressed optimism that the Governor's visit will help to reposition the Company, especially in the aspects of the relationship with Gas Company to clear the legacy debt and the training of Staff.

The Chairman threw light on the functionality of the three turbines which aid power distribution. As a Board, Engr. Inyang said they met GT1 not functional since 2012. Only GT3 was functional when the Governor visited and GT2 was down with maintenance issue. He added that in the next few weeks the turbines will be up for better power distribution.

Clearing the air on the recent power outages experienced in the State, the Chairman said Ibom Power Company was not responsible as they do not supply power to the State but to the national grid. The recent outage incidents were due to a technical fault in the Aba-Itu line which supplies power to the State, and a rainstorm which disrupted the lines within Afaha Ube transmission sub-station. He added that the State Government is working on modalities with Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to see how the Aba-Itu line fault could be resolved.

On harnessing gas production in the State to run turbines to generate power, it was disclosed that negotiations are ongoing to have a more comfortable deal as the State plans to exit from the contract with Savannah Energy Resource Ltd.

The Chairman however disclosed that the planned technical audit of the Ibom Power facilities is to determine the technical gap created over the years and work towards closing such gaps.

Furthermore, as the Chairman of Ibom Power Company Board, Engr. Etido Inyang said a lot has been achieved in the areas of policy changes, sustainability and supervisory roles.

The Board of Directors has a good working relationship with the entire staff and management of the company, he disclosed.

The management reports to the Board which has supervisory role over it. With his experience, globally and locally over the years, the Chairman said he can only aspire higher while working to engender better power services for Akwa Ibom people.

CultureErosion Menace: A'ibom Village Head Sends SOS To Governor by Assamjnr(op): 4:34pm On Jul 03, 2023
...Seeks Urgent Intervention To Avert More Calamities

Posted by Ubong ASSAM.

Ekpri Nsukara Offot in Uyo Local Government Area has cried out to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno to save the community from the erosion menace ravaging the area.

In a Save-Our-Soul message to Governor Umo Eno at the weekend, the community expressed fears that lives may be lost and some areas wiped out by the ravaging erosion except there is urgent intervention by the State Government to avert the looming danger.

The community said every rainy season has been a period of “hue and cry” as erosion has continued to render some streets impassable with fences of properties and houses destroyed or flooded while farmlands are submerged.

The SOS message signed by the Village Head-elect of Ekpri Nsukara Offot, Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo; the chairman of the Village Council, Comrade Morris Silas Bassey and the Secretary of Village Council, Elder Domingo Bassey Etim lamented that the ugly development has exposed the community to serious land degradation and environmental insecurity.

“Our community, Ekpri Nsukara Offot, situated along Nwaniba Road axis of Uyo Capital City is facing the threat of gully erosion with its dire consequences of land degradation and environmental insecurity.

“The menace has made every rainy season in the past few years to be a period of hue and cry in our thickly populated Community, which is a co-host of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO).

“The fast evolving gully erosion in parts of the Community has cut off some streets from being accessed by motorists and destroyed fences, while some houses have been flooded and others on the verge of being totally submerged,” the community said.

They further stated that some institutions of learning, including the community owned Ekpri Nsukara Offot International Schools (ENISCO), are already under serious threat of devastation and possible submersion by the erosion if not checked.

According to the community “Indigenes and residents affected by the sad development are now very helpless, thus making our Community to stand the risk of serious environmental insecurity, except urgent remedy is effected immediately.”

They called on the State Government to come to their aid by providing remedial and permanent solutions so as to save lives and our community from further devastation.

When our Correspondent visited Ekpri Nsukara Offot to assess the extent of the gully erosion, it was seen that Akpakpan Street, off Mission Road and others within the locality were cut off, making it impossible for motorists to ply on them.

The chairman of the village council, Comrade Morris Silas Bassey, told our Correspondent that residents in the affected areas faced great risk in navigating to their houses when it rains especially at nights.

“We are really suffering. Look at the condition of living in these areas. When it rains, the lives of inhabitants are seriously threatened by heavy flooding.

“As you can see – pointing to the destroyed walls of the Ekpri Nsukara Offot International Schools (ENISCO) and other properties; these are some of the sad encounters faced by people in the community,” Comrade Bassey lamented.

Meanwhile, the flood has converted a large acreage of farmlands in the community into pools with no immediate hope of the lands being utilised except when drainages are undertaken to channel out the rain water.

The village head-elect, Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo, was very hopeful that the administration of Governor Umo Eno will salvage the community from the perennial erosion menace.

“We know who we supported to emerge as Governor of Akwa Ibom State. We are confident that Pastor Umo Eno, under his Arise Agenda, will surely wipe away our tears,” he said.

CrimeA'ibom Premier Monarch Condemns Communal Crisis, Destruction Of Coconut Plantati by Assamjnr(op): 2:32pm On May 25, 2023
By Uduak ASSAM Jnr.

Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr) Solomon Daniel Etuk, CFR has condemned the wanton destruction of the state’s multi-million dollar coconut plantation in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area.

The premier royal father described the action, allegedly carried out by youths of Eastern Obolo in protest against the state government’s mapping exercise, as ill-advised, barbaric and an act of economic sabotage against the collective interest of the people of Akwa Ibom.

Ntenyin Etuk said in a statement on Thursday that such economic investments including other companies like Sterling Petrochemical & Fertilizer Ltd within the area, are treasures that should be protected by the people at all times.

He said all the intents and purposes of the mapping exercise have been well dissected and explained to stakeholders across the 31 Local Government Areas of the State and sees no reason whatsoever for any group or youth to take laws into their hands by resorting to violent attacks on economic trees and facilities.

“We can recall that Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly before the passage of the bill on the mapping of Akwa Ibom into Law had convoked a public hearing and there have been other fora where the government explained the necessity of the exercise.

“Every State must have an official map. What we inherited from Cross River at the time of the creation of Akwa Ibom which had 10 local government areas became outdated with the additional creation of 21 local government areas.

There is no need to harbour unnecessary fears about the exercise or resort to destruction of property,” he advised.

The patriarch of the Ibibios also condemned the feud among some communities in the State particularly the Amazaba Community in Eastern Obolo and Ikot Akpan Udo in Ete Clan of Ikot Abasi Local Government Areas which have cost the lives of four persons and the loss of properties.

He called on Paramount Rulers, Chairmen of Local Government Areas, members of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly representing the affected areas and Stakeholders to engage their people in meaningful dialogue on the sad development to curb further menace.
