PoliticsCHAIRMANSHIP: G4 Calls For Debate To Prove Who Can Best Translate ARISE Agenda by Assamjnr(op): 6:02pm On Jul 19, 2024
Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr., PH.

Following the proclamation of elections and the publication of guidelines for Local Government elections by the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC), a frontline Chairmanship aspirant for Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government, Obong Nsikak Oku, popularly known as G4, has issued a call for a public debate among all aspirants for the third tier of government, particularly those vying for Local Government Chairmanship.

Exchanging views with Journalists and Bloggers on Friday in Uyo, the State capital, Obong Oku emphasized the necessity of the debate in light of the significant developmental strides made by Governor Umo Eno across the state.

He asserted that the governance at the local government level, which is closest to the people, must be led by individuals who are fit in character and possess the requisite leadership qualities, rather than by mediocrities who might hinder the Governor's efforts within their localities.

His words: "The remarkable development in the State under the able leadership of our dear Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, underscore the importance of having competent leadership at all levels of government.

"It is imperative that the third tier of government, which directly interfaces with the grassroots, be managed by individuals who are fit in character and possess the requisite leadership qualities; those who are not only qualified but also have a clear vision and actionable plans for continued progress, and are ready to key into the ARISE agenda."

However, the call by the former oil and gas magnet for a public debate comes amidst concerns over impositions and plans by certain stakeholders to marginalize deserving aspirants in favour of less competent individuals.

The philanthropist believes that a debate will provide a platform for each aspirant to showcase their capabilities and articulate their plans for their respective local governments.

This, according to Obong Oku, is crucial in ensuring that the electorate can make an informed choice about who is best suited to lead.

"Leadership of a local government is a serious endeavour, akin to what we expect in a more advance societies. So, the public debate will serve as a litmus test and will help reveal the true capacity of each aspirant so that the electorate can choose a leader who is well-prepared to serve and uphold the trust of our Local Government Area,"Oku noted.

The entrepreneur, who lavished praise on Governor Umo Eno for his remarkable achievements in just over a year, also committed to advancing the ARISE Agenda.

G4 pledged to ensure that the founding fathers of Ibesikpo Asutan, including former Governor, Obong Victor Attah, Obong T. O. Akpan, the late Effiong Okon Eyo (Eyo Uyo), former Paramount Ruler, HRM Obong Ita Etuk (late), late Air Marshal Nsikak Eduok Rtd, Obong E. E. Akpainyang, Elder Effiong Essien, Bishop Christian Ekong, President of Lutheran Church of Nigeria, along with several others alive and late, who made significant sacrifices for the local government area, receive due recognition and honour.

PoliticsCry For Justice Over Councillorship Race In Eket Central 7 Ward by Assamjnr(op): 4:40pm On Jul 19, 2024
...PDP's Interest At Stake If Emerging Crisis Is Not Nipped In The Bud

Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr.

Emerging political crisis has threatened the interest of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Odio and Ndita Communities of Eket Central 7 Ward in Eket Local Government Area, of Akwa Ibom, if not nipped in the bud.

The sad development is not unconnected with the staged managed councillorship race on Thursday, July 18, 2024 where an unpopular aspirant, Mr Itoho Ebito, who is currently a transition committee member representing the ward, was announced as the "consensus candidate" for the upcoming local government polls.

The purported adoption of Mr Itohowo Ebito on grounds of being a "system candidate" against the popular choice of the people and party, Daniel Essien Usoro, who is a key promoter of Governor Umo Eno-led administration has caused sharp division and bickering in the hitherto united Ward 7.

Trouble erupted when all the critical stakeholders first met in a closed door meeting, to see how a consensus agreement could be fashioned out but it was deadlocked as the two leading contenders in the race, Itohowo Ebito and Daniel Essien Usoro insisted on going to the field to test their popularity after the third aspirant, Aniefiok Essien Fan threw in the towel, setting the pace for the battle royale.

An eyed witness account had it that in the fierce battle to foist Ebito as the consensus candidate, motion and counter motion were moved.

Grapevine sources had it that the Ward Leader, Apostle Sunday Akpadiaha, who was favourably disposed to giving the ticket to his "anointed" aspirant still tried to have a say in this vexed issue, but the majority still had their way.

It was at this juncture that Barrister Fan Gabriel moved a motion that Itohowo Ebito should be adopted as the consensus candidate, and it was supported by Mr Sammy Idiok.

The Deputy Leader of the ward, Hon. Eric EtukAkpan then stood up and countered the motion, insisting that a transparent, fair and credible mock primaries involving all stakeholders, should be conducted according to the guidelines of the party, so as to give the two aspirants, a level playing ground. The Ward Chairman, Mr Innocent Inyang also pitched his supported the prayers of his deputy ward Leader. Then the bubbles bursted.

It was further learnt that the Chapter Woman Leader, Hon Emem Francis, fearing that her constituents may finally engage in fisticuffs on a strange land, suggested that the pending mock primaries should be moved to the ward centre, where all stakeholders will be given a sense of belonging to participate fully in the process. Her noble idea was supported by a former councillor, Hon. Emem Wilson

Moments after, village youths invaded the meeting arena, saying that they all want to be involved in the selection process, and hell was let loose and the two factions parted ways, chanting "to your tents, O Odio and Nditia."

But in a sudden twist of event, the other faction loyal to the ward Leader, later reconvened and adopted their preferred aspirant as the consensus candidate, in what political pundits referred to as a charade and mind blowing imposition, throwing all ethos of democratic values into the dust bin.

All frantic efforts made by this reporter, as at press time, to reach the ward Leader, Apostle Sunday Akpadiaha, also a retired Permanent Secretary and former Akwa Ibom State Head of Civil Service, for his own side of the story, proved abortive as his telephone number was not going through.

It would be recalled that at a recent meeting held at Eket PDP Chapter Office comprising of ward leaders, ward chairmen and chapter executive, Obongiwaad Emmanuel Mbong clearly stated that where consensus can not be reached amicably, each and every aspirant should be allowed to test his or her popularity at the polls, as the party would not condone the unjust shutting out of some aspirants in the councillorship race.

The identified flash points were Okon 1 ward, Central 2, 3, 4, 7 wards but all the four wards at Urban geopolitical zones were given a clean bill of health, by the party hierarchy.

CultureA'ibom Premier Monarch Seeks Dispassionate Action Against Deforestation by Assamjnr(op): 2:57am On Jul 18, 2024
Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr.

The Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP, CFR, has expressed concerns over the rising deforestation in communities with no corresponding planting of trees.

Ntenyin Etuk, the Patriarch of the Ibibios worldwide, decried that most natives are unaware of the fact that cutting off trees has the adverse effect of releasing carbon dioxide (CO²) into the atmosphere, thereby contributing to ozone layer depletion and climate change.

The Akwa Ibom premier royal father, who spoke in an exclusive interview explained that without trees and forests, the soil easily erodes and washes away, which in turn affects farming, as the barren land then becomes more susceptible to flooding, specifically in coastal regions like ours.

He further explained that the resultant damages from deforestation on the environment are widespread and consequential, as they disrupt the natural balance of ecosystems, causing soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, and changes in the local climate.

The monarch citing examples of disasters experienced in other climes, noted that deforestation also negatively affects communities by reducing access to clean water and increasing the risk of flooding and landslides.

"Deforestation comes with many disadvantages, affects the water cycle, destroys the flora and fauna, and leads to an increase in carbon dioxide, which in turn increases global warming, adding "Cutting trees destroys the habitat of animals and birds, causes floods and fires and limits the supply of wood or timber."

"Our communities must rise to checkmate this ugly trend of incessant cutting of trees for firewood or other purposes without corresponding replanting. We have to follow the footsteps of fathers who were always planting trees for economic and environmental benefits. We must plant too both for our use and for future generations," he added.

Oku Ibom Ibibio referencing expert opinions, maintained that "the loss of trees and other vegetation can cause climate change, desertification, soil erosion, fewer crops, flooding, increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and a host of problems for indigenous people."

He also condemned the activities of sand mining in our streams and rivers, raising concerns about its dire consequences of erosion, salination of aquifers, loss of protection against storm surges and impacts on biodiversity of the affected communities.

The monarch called on the federal, state and local governments to champion sustainable development goals on agriculture and forestry practices and to come up with appropriate legislation against deforestation towards ending its consequential impact on the environment and society.

The royal father recalled that before the discovery of crude oil in our soil, our people thrived in the oil palm business with resultant economic gains but lamented that there is significant decline of investment and general interest in the sector.

He was emphatic that Akwa Ibom has to maintain its lead of having the highest number of oil palm trees per capita in Nigeria, adding that apart from oil palm, our environment is fertile for the cultivation of raffia palm, rubber, cocoa, kola nut, coconut, pears, citrus, cassava, yam, maize, rice, cowpeas, plantain, banana, pineapple and gmelina.

"Raffia palm is of high economic benefit. Apart from being used to produce alcoholic beverage and gin, its fiber, obtained from its leaves are used in making baskets, hats, mats, and dyes. Also, its slotted fruits can produce cooking oil.

"Once, we embrace agriculture as our parents did, we will be able to solve our food crises, thereby boosting our personal incomes and our economy. This is why I fully support the State government's drive on agriculture across all local government areas, " he added.

The monarch assured that Akwa Ibom Akwa Ibom traditional rulers on their part, will continue to dissuade people in the rural communities from cutting of trees but rather to embrace the habit of planting of trees, and engaging in farming for food security, economic purposes and environmental protection.

PoliticsLG Polls: Nsit Ibom People Rally Behind Pastor Ekomobong Silas For Chairman by Assamjnr(op): 6:07pm On Jul 17, 2024
Posted By Ubong ASSAM Jnr., P/H.

As the political clock ticks towards the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Local Government Chairmanship primary election slated for next month, a growing number of groups and individuals are throwing their weight behind Pastor Ekomobong Silas for the chairmanship of Nsit Ibom Local Government Council.

Exchanging views with our reporter on Tuesday in Mbiaso, some indigenes of the area spoke passionately about their desire for a leader with a humble heart and a track record of selfless services. They enthusiastically endorsed Pastor Ekomobong Silas, fondly called 'Ete Nditọ Uwene' (Father of the Poor), as their preferred choice for Executive Chairman. They opined that his reputation for generosity and kindness to those in need has made him a beloved figure, and many are rallying behind his aspiration.

Mr. Ubong John, a staunch PDP supporter, eulogized Pastor Silas as the ideal Chairmanship aspirant that will bring transformation across all wards of Nsit Ibom and respect the elders.

The father of three hinted that the entire Mbiaso Ward 3 and Nsit Ibom at large believe in the capacity of Pastor Silas to change the narrative of leadership for the better.

His words: "Our people say that a man’s true character is known by his people. While many have shown interest in the upcoming chairmanship election, it is clear that Pastor Ekomobong Silas stands out as the best aspirant."

On her part, Madam Affiong Okon, a trader at Ekponwa market, recounted Pastor Silas's long-standing support for women in business since 2010. She noted his continuous efforts to help women start and expand their businesses, making him the kind of leader Nsit Ibom needs to lessen the leadership burden for the Political leader of the Area; Major General Paul Isang (Rtd.) and Pastor Umo Eno at the State level.

However, Friday Udofia, a barber, shared his personal story of how Pastor Silas provided him with barbing kits and a generator during a trade fair in Uyo. This significant assistance, according to Udofia, enabled him to start his own shop and later expand his barbing business in Afaha Offiong.

His words: "After my training, I couldn’t open my shop and roamed this village for a year and three months before someone suggested I talk to Pastor Silas, saying he is a giver. That's how he blessed me without even knowing me, and today I have another shop in Afaha Offiong, in addition to the first one he helped me open in our village."

Many other indigenes of the area chronicled the numerous humanitarian services and immense contributions of Pastor Ekomobong Silas to their communities, attributing their loyalty to the PDP to his influence. They appealed to the leadership of the PDP to endorse Pastor Silas as the sole candidate for the upcoming council election, citing his proven track record, humility, and dedication to community development as some of the reasons.

They used the occasion to also praise Major General Paul Isang (Rtd.), the political leader of Nsit Ibom LGA, for his exemplary leadership, characterized by a Godly, large-hearted, and candid approach. They commended General Isang's unwavering support for the Governor and the PDP. The people expressed confidence that Pastor Silas, as Chairman, would humbly collaborate with and genuinely assist Major General Isang in advancing their shared goals, fostering a father-son dynamic in their leadership efforts.

Meanwhile, those who spoke to our reporter expressed the belief that Pastor Silas, with his entrepreneurial background in the oil and gas sector and his commitment to the people of Akwa Ibom, will effectively implement the Governor’s ARISE agenda at the grassroots level. They are confident that 'Ete Nditọ Uwene' will ensure the resources of Nsit Ibom benefit royal fathers, elders, women, youth, and the less privileged alike.

PoliticsNsikak Oku 'G4' Promises Replicating Ariseagenda In Ibesikpo Asutan As Chairman by Assamjnr(op): 9:07am On Jul 17, 2024

The leading Chairmanship aspirant in Ibesikpo Asutan for the upcoming Local Government elections, Obong Nsikak Oku, has declared his intention to replicate Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda in Ibesikpo Asutan when elected.

Speaking to journalists and bloggers at the Victor Attah International Airport on Tuesday upon his return from a business engagement in Abuja, Oku, popularly called G4, outlined his vision and commitment to grassroots development and people-centric leadership.

The seasoned entrepreneur and oil and gas veteran, from Ibesikpo Ward 5, divulged that his programme centres around what he termed the 'ADEC Project', with 'A' standing for "ARISE Agenda at the Grassroots", 'D' for "Development of Talents through Sports & Games", 'E' for "Educational Support for Tertiary Education Students", and 'C' for "Culture & Tourism Promotion."

The philanthropist explained that his comprehensive programme is aimed at fostering rural transformation in line with Governor Umo Eno’s successful initiatives.

His words: "I am fully prepared to serve the good people of Ibesikpo Asutan. By the special grace of God, my team will ensure we install the kind of government that will be committed and ensure that the allocations for Ibesikpo Asutan benefit the people, especially poor women, elders, youth, and those struggling to meet basic needs."

The graduate of Mechanical Engineering, who noted that Ibesikpo Ward 5 has not produced a Chairman of the Council since its creation in 1997, revealed that if the ward is schemed out from the October contest, it would take exactly 72 years before the cycle returns to them.

Meanwhile, the popular G4 used the opportunity to praise the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his remarkable achievements in Ibesikpo Asutan within a short period, mentioning the construction of a state-of-the-art hospital and the ongoing development of a road linking Ibesikpo Asutan with neighbouring Nsit Ibom LGA.

"Our leader, the Governor, is God-sent. You would agree with me that he has significantly improved the nooks and crannies of the State with life-touching projects and programmes. It is my belief that Ibesikpo Asutan, which is just close to the State capital, should meet the same standard we have in Uyo. By God's grace, we will expand upon the Governor's vision with my ADEC agenda," he stated.

In the meantime, Obong Nsikak Oku stands out as a leading contender with a clear vision and a proven track record. He is a loyal member of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Since the inception of the umbrella party, Obong Oku has been instrumental in securing victories for the party in his ward through successive elections, including the most recent in 2023.

With over two decades of experience in the nation’s oil and gas sector and massive investments in agriculture, entertainment, and other ventures, G4 appears ready to take Ibesikpo Asutan to the Eldorado of development as he steps in soon.

PoliticsLG Polls: IPAC Backs Ibesikpo Ward 5 For Chairmanship, Ward 4 For AKHA by Assamjnr(op): 6:10pm On Jul 15, 2024

The Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Chapter, has reaffirmed the stakeholders' position regarding the October local government elections in Akwa Ibom.

The body, which is the umbrella organization of all registered political parties in the country, plays a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s national polity by fostering dialogue, promoting cooperation, and driving progress across political divides.

In a meeting held on Tuesday, 9th July 2024, at their office at Ikot Oduot, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, the committee deliberated on critical issues affecting Ibesikpo Asutan and arrived at significant resolutions to ensure fairness and equity in political representation.

The committee, in a communiqué signed by all registered party chairmen and representatives present, commended Governor Umo Eno for his inclusive governance and notable projects in the area, including the newly inaugurated Primary Health Centre at Ikot Nkwo. They emphasized the need for political equity across the wards of Ibesikpo Asutan, recognizing the ten wards acknowledged by INEC and twelve by AKISIEC.

Reviewing the historical allocation of the Chairmanship position since the LGA's creation, the IPAC noted that the Ibesikpo bloc has had the chairmanship three times, while the Asutan bloc has had it four times. Given this pattern, they stressed the importance of rotating the position to Ibesikpo Ward 5, which has yet to hold the office.

The committee also upheld the pre-existing agreement that Ibesikpo Ward 4 will secure the next House of Assembly seat once the current tenure from the Asutan bloc concludes. They highlighted the urgency of allocating the Chairmanship to Ibesikpo Ward 5 in the forthcoming 2024 local government elections to prevent a 72-year wait for their next turn.

IPAC strongly advised all political parties to avoid any form of candidate imposition and to ensure that the Chairmanship is fairly zoned to Ibesikpo Ward 5. They warned against actions that might undermine the community's unity and emphasized that political offices should reflect the will of the people.

The meeting concluded with a call for all parties to adhere to the principles of justice, fairness, and equity in the distribution of political offices within Ibesikpo Asutan LGA.

PoliticsBirthday: Peace Kokoette Enoh Donates To New Mothers, Clears Hospital Bills by Assamjnr(op): 12:31pm On Jul 12, 2024

Instead of throwing a lavish birthday party, the Personal Assistant on Youth Matters to Governor Umo Eno and Female Youths President (Lemon), Uruan Chapter, Hon. Peace Kokotte Enoh, chose to celebrate by showing compassion to new mothers and their children.

Yesterday (Thursday), she brought smiles to the faces of no fewer than thirty-eight new mothers across three hospitals in Uruan Local Government Area, where she hails from.

The health facilities she visited were the Primary Health Centre in Idu Uruan, the Primary Health Centre in Ifiayong, and the General Hospital in Ituk Mbang.

Mrs. Enoh donated diapers, baby hangers, tissue papers, wipes, pecks, detergents, sets of baby baths, baskets, bathing soaps, baby beds, sanitary towels, and also cleared hospital bills.

During her visits, Peace, who is also the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Good Aim Ladies Association (GALA), a prominent female support group in Akwa Ibom, expressed that there was no better way to celebrate her birthday than by being with the new mothers and their children.

The mother of three lovely and brilliant children used the occasion to eulogize her boss, Governor Umo Eno, for giving her the opportunity to serve in his government, which enabled her to perform these acts of kindness.

She urged the public to invest in humanitarian services, which she believes attract God's blessings and reduce people's pains and burdens.

"My dear husband, my family, and the Good Aim Ladies Association have given me tremendous support, and we have concluded plans to establish 'GALA foundation' to assist our dear Governor, especially in the rural areas and hinterlands," Mrs. Enoh stated.

"By the special grace of God, we intend to make visits like this a monthly occurrence and reach out to our people in terms of empowerment, support for orphanages, and aid for less privileged individuals, including men, women, and youths facing difficulties."

The Assistant Director of the Maternity Ward, Mrs. Gloria Etuk-Akpan, expressed gratitude, noting that Mrs. Enoh's visit came at a crucial time. She thanked Mrs. Enoh for choosing the maternity ward and reminded everyone that those who touch the soul are the artisans of empathy, creating connections that endure. She prayed for God's blessings upon Mrs. Enoh, her family, and her future career in politics.

PSC Director (Health Centre Idu Uruan) Mrs. Rose Ukut also thanked Hon. Enoh and her team for their generous gesture, stating that the donations would significantly alleviate the burdens of patients. She prayed for God's guidance, support, and protection for the celebrant.

The six-hour visit featured the clearing of hospital bills, advice for young mothers, and prayers.

Mrs. Enoh was accompanied by a cross-section of GALA members, including the Secretary of the group, Lady Comfort David, Lady Unyime Udourom, Lady Grace Udofia, Lady Uduak Akpan, Lady Enwongo Bassey, Lady Victoria Usoro, among others.

… Lauds Gov. Eno For Inclusive Governance And Performance

The Village Head of Ekpri Nsukara Offot in Uyo Local Government Area, Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo, has lauded the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, for his diligence in the performance of his duties.

Eteidung Asikpo said the SSG has, by his outstanding performance, excelled as a good ambassador of the Offot Ukwa Clan as well as the Uyo Local Government Area in the administration of Governor Umo Bassey Eno.

He said traditional rulers in the Offot Ukwa Clan are very happy with Prince Uwah for relating well with them and the people, and also for ensuring that the policies of Governor Eno, as encapsulated in the ARISE Agenda, are efficiently implemented.

Speaking on the sidelines of an interface with the SSG on Friday, July 5, 2024, the village head noted that the administration of Pastor Eno has done so much for the people by offering quality leadership and impactful development across the state.

Eteidung Asikpo pointed out that the governor’s non-discriminatory relationship with other political parties and their members through his inclusive governance approach has endeared him to the people, as well as engendered peace, unity, development and a sense of togetherness among all Akwa Ibomites.

“We must commend our dear son, Prince Enobong Uwah, for being diligent in his duty as the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government. He has proven to be a true ambassador of the Offot Ukwa Clan and the Uyo Local Government Area as a whole.

“We are fully supportive of Governor Umo Eno's administration. He has done well for the people. His impact is being felt across the entire state. He doesn’t discriminate against other political parties and their members,” he added.

The village head further expressed joy that Governor Eno doesn't also sideline those who opposed him, did not support him, or had contested against him in the last governorship polls in the state.

In his words, “The governor’s policy of inclusion has brought about peace, unity, development and a sense of togetherness among all Akwa Ibomites. We cherish it and do pledge our continuous, unflinching cooperation to the administration by mobilising our subjects always to support the government and its programmes.”

He urged the state administration to continue at that impactful pace of offering quality welfare services to the people and to also look into the challenges of remedying poor roads in the Offot Ukwa communities in the Uyo Local Government Area.

According to him, as the headquarters of Akwa Ibom, the Uyo capital city plays host to people from other parts of the state and beyond.

PoliticsEXPOSED: How Ibesikpo Ward 5 Is Facing Worst Victimization by Assamjnr(op): 7:51am On Jul 05, 2024
... as Stakeholders Allegedly Flout PDP Orders

Written by ANIEKAN UDOH, NUNG UDOE, Posted by Ubong Assam Jnr., in P/H

As Akwa Ibom State prepares for the PDP primaries to elect its flag bearer, a shocking display of political victimization has emerged in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.

Reports revealed that the political leader of the area, Prince Uwem Ita Etuk, and certain elders have allegedly disregarded the PDP's directives, unfairly shifting the forthcoming chairmanship from Ibesikpo Ward 5 to Ward 4 under false pretenses. According to reliable sources, Prince Uwem Ita Etuk and his cohorts allegedly claimed that Ward 4 had never had any representation in government, a statement that is historically inaccurate.

Honest leaders conforming to truth and justice in the area have reiterated that it is indeed the turn of Ward 5 to produce the chairman of the council, while Ward 4 is due to produce the House of Assembly member. These honest leaders, who are frowning at the alleged unfair treatment, revealed that, Ibesikpo Ward 4 has already seen significant political appointments, with Hon. Godwin Udoabasi, a former Secretary of the Council, and Obong Elder E. E. Akpainyang, who was two term Chairman civil service commission in the state. The ward had 4 SAs to the former Governor.

On the other hand, the equity group of elders maintained that Ward 5 has been marginalized, having never produced a Local Government chairman since the advent of democracy in 1999. While Ward 5 did once produce a House of Assembly member and a commissioner, both leaders tragically passed away, leaving the ward without sustained political representation.

During an interview with our reporter on Wednesday in Nung Udoe, leaders from Ward 5 expressed their unwavering support for Governor Umo Eno and the PDP leadership, begging them to intervene in what they termed a "daylight robbery" of their rights and a skewed zoning arrangement.

They recalled that even when their late son, Hon. Ekpeowo, won the House of Assembly ticket, he triumphed due to his popularity, over candidates from all wards in Ibesikpo clan.

The stakeholders emphasized that Ward 4 should focus on the forthcoming House of Assembly elections, rather than the chairmanship. According to them, if Ward 4 takes the chairmanship now, Ward 5 would face an unconscionable 72-year wait for their turn and 52 years for house of Assembly

Furthermore, they pointed out that the current political leader, Uwem Ita Etuk, is allegedly manipulating the zoning to benefit Ward 3, which he hails from, positioning them for the House of Assembly slot in less than seven years.

The equity group also exposed deception in the text messages sent to people for the stakeholders meeting, where Hon. Aniekan Uko allegedly identified himself as the Secretary of the Ibesikpo Asutan PDP Chairmanship Congress Committee.

However, the state leadership of PDP, through its Publicity Secretary, Borono Bassey, has debunked this claim, stating there is no such committee and warning against actions that could sow discord and disharmony within the party.

The equity group in Ibesikpo Asutan hinted that the same political leaders who installed the current local government chairperson, who, according to them, has failed to deliver tangible results over nearly four years, are now attempting to allegedly impose another figurehead to continue their regressive agenda for Ibesikpo Asutan. They maintained that the kind of chairman the local government deserves is someone who would replicate the development zeal of Governor Umo Eno in Ibesikpo Asutan, not someone who would use the local government allocation for the benefit of a select few at the expense of the rural poor.

The people appealed to Governor Umo Eno, Senator Aniekan Bassey, member, House of Representatives member; Hon. Mike Esset and the leadership of the PDP to come to thier aid before the cabal plunge the area into numerous problems.

SKEWED ZONING: Ibesikpo Ward 5 Cries For Help Over Marginalization In Chairmanship, may Wait for 72 Years if...

Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr., P/H

As the people of Akwa Ibom State prepare to elect leaders at the grassroots level in the forthcoming local government elections, all is not well for Ibesikpo Ward 5 in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.

To this end, the ward has raised alarm over what they describe as a deliberate and brazen marginalization in the chairmanship seat, potentially resulting in a 72-year wait before they would have the opportunity to produce a chairman.

Our investigations revealed that only Ibesikpo Wards 4 and 5 have been left without producing a chairman for the local government, and the upcoming elections were expected to favour these two wards.

Many aspirants from Ward 5, having invested considerable resources in consultations and preparations, were shocked to discover that a group of leaders in the Local Government, three days ago, surreptitiously re-zoned the chairmanship seat, effectively sidelining their ward.

This move, according to an enlarged group of leaders in the area, is perceived as a maneuver by the clandestine group to install a puppet and crony in a position of authority over the entire local government.

In their effort to seek justice and fairness, the people of Ward 5, known for their strong support of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since 1999, organized a peaceful demonstration at the residence of the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Nsikan Linus Nkan.

The placard-carrying protesters, including youths and women, on Saturday, voiced their grievances and highlighted their loyalty to the PDP. They emphasized that their ward has produced capable leaders who could bring unprecedented development to all 12 wards of Ibesikpo Asutan if given the chance to serve as chairman.

The demonstrators appealed to Commissioner Nkan and other people-centric leaders in the area to intervene and rectify the situation, stressing that without them speaking the truth at this time, Ibesikpo Ward 5 might have to endure the skewed arrangement that would see the 12 wards taking turns every six years, effectively ensuring that no one from Ward 5 would be alive to witness their turn 72 years later.

They also used the occasion to pledge their continued loyalty to the ARISE agenda of the Umo Eno administration, while appealing to him to intervene and stop what they described as the daylight robbery of their rights for the sake of posterity.

IMPUNITY: Itu Village Head Risks 2 Years in Prison for Illegal Self-Installation Clan Head

Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr., P/H

The Village Head of Okoho Village in Itu Clan, Obong Etim Edet Okon Ekpo, is facing serious legal trouble following allegations of illegally installing himself as the Clan Head of Itu Clan without the necessary official recognition from the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

However, if found guilty, the Village Head could spend up to two years behind bars.

It is alleged that on May 30, 2024, Obong Etim Edet Okon Ekpo, in conspiracy with several Village Heads in Itu, declared himself the Clan Head of Itu Clan. This illegal installation, carried out without the approval of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, was widely publicized on social media.

Section 37 of the Traditional Rulers Law of Akwa Ibom State clearly states that any person who installs themselves or another as a Clan Head without official recognition from the Governor is guilty of a felony. The penalty for such an offense includes imprisonment for two years.

The law reads in part: "A person who purports to install another person; or allows himself to be installed a paramount Ruler, a Clan Head or a Village Head without first obtaining official recognition in writing is guilty of a felony and liable on summary conviction to a fine of Ten Thousand Naira or imprisonment for Two years."

In addition to the illegal self-installation, the paper reliably gathered that Obong Etim Edet Okon Ekpo also set up a juju shrine and made sacrifices with a live cow on the same day. This act has been widely condemned by residents, who argue that the shrine was inappropriately established in a compound not belonging to the supposed worshipper.

Meanwhile, an Akwa Ibom based newspaper authoritatively report that a petition has been filed against Obong Etim Edet Okon Ekpo, and it is expected that he will soon appear in court to face charges. Legal experts suggest that if he is found guilty as alleged, he could face the maximum penalty stipulated under Section 37 of the Traditional Rulers Law.

According to legal experts, the move to prosecute the self-installed Clan Head and his cohorts is seen as a critical step in upholding the rule of law and maintaining the sanctity of traditional leadership processes in Akwa Ibom State. Authorities are urged to act swiftly to ensure that justice is served and the integrity of the traditional institution is preserved.

A law luminary in the State, E. A. Bassey Esq., opined that the traditional institution is awaiting the court's decision, adding that it will set a significant precedent for similar cases in the future.

PoliticsDr. Patrick Umoh: One Year Of Top-notch Representation by Assamjnr(op): 5:52pm On Jun 13, 2024
Written by Henshaw NYONG || Posted by Ubong Assam Jnr - Abuja

When the renowned American author; Ann McGee-Cooper, said, "The true heroes of the new millennium will be servant leaders, quietly working out of the spotlight to transform our world," she may have been prophesying about Dr. Patrick Umoh, the member representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Through my investigation and the testimonies of his constituents, I have uncovered a representative who genuinely embodies the spirit of service and tirelessly working to enhance the lives of those he represents.

Therefore, as Dr. Umoh marks his first year in office today, it provides an opportune moment to spotlight his outstanding commitment to effective and effectual representation. As you scrutinize his one-year scorecard, you will undoubtedly agree with his constituents that his performance has been truly remarkable. The lawmaker has indeed made a lasting impact on his Federal Constituency, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those he serves. Let's see!

1. Facilitating Employment Opportunities:

Dr. Umoh, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of Implementation of Legislative Agenda, has achieved a remarkable milestone by facilitating the employment of seven constituents in the Federal Civil Service. Amidst the alarming rate of unemployment, securing a Federal Civil Service job is a coveted achievement, and Dr. Umoh deserves accolades for directly tackling unemployment and providing stable career paths for the initial six constituents, with promises of more to follow soon.

2. Inclusive Engagement and Immediate Support

Investigations and testimonies from his constituents proved that the Knight of St. John's International, stands out as the first representative to engage directly with family heads, physically challenged individuals, and women within the constituency, spending over N3.5 million on the spot. This engagement was further complemented by his diligent distribution of Federal Government palliatives to those in need.

3. Empowering Youth through Cooperative Societies:

Recognizing the significance of youth empowerment, Dr. Umoh has taken a proactive step by establishing cooperative societies specifically for young people, each receiving a startup capital of N1 million. This initiative not only promotes entrepreneurship but also encourages self-reliance, empowering the younger generation to take charge of their economic future.

4. Legislative Excellence:

With an impressive record of over fourteen bills, numerous motions, and petitions to his name, the brilliant parliamentarian has showcased exceptional legislative prowess and an unwavering commitment to advocating for the needs and concerns of his Federal Constituency. His dedication to effective representation and transformative leadership has left an indelible mark on the lives of the people; young and old.

5. Rewarding Loyalty and Hard Work:

Dr. Umoh has established a reward system to acknowledge and appreciate the dedicated efforts of his constituents and team members. This gesture has not only motivated his people to strive for greater heights but also demonstrated Umoh's candid appreciation for their tireless efforts. His Director General, who recently received a new Car to aid his movement as well as those who work closely with the lawmaker and many others, can attest to his gargantuan milk of human kindness and philanthropy.

6. Festive Generosity and Community Appreciation:

During Christmas and Easter, Dr. Umoh undertook a tour of appreciation across the three LGAs of his Federal Constituency, where he distributed a total of N6 million in cash and over a hundred bags of rice to select groups. These he did to strengthen community bonds and as well spread festive cheers.

7. International Representation:

As a first-term member, Dr. Umoh has already represented the Nigerian House of Representatives at the British House of Commons. His active participation on this international platform is an eloquent prove of how he is incredibly astute, intelligent and dedicated to robust representation and legislative oversight.

8. Setting Educational Precedents:

Within his first 100 days in office, Dr. Umoh set a commendable example by paying bursaries, a move that was quickly followed by other rewarding and people-centric programmes. As a former lecturer who highly values education, he further proved his commitment to educational support and development.

9. Agricultural Training and Support:

Recognizing the importance of agriculture in the current economic situation, Dr. Umoh spearheaded an initiative to empower over 50 constituents with specialized training in cocoa planting. Each participant received a grant of N100,000 to support their agricultural endeavours.. This proactive approach not only enhanced the livelihoods of the beneficiaries but also contributed to the overall development of the agricultural sector in the Federal Constituency.

10. Business Grants for Supporters:

Dr. Umoh has demonstrated his commitment to economic empowerment by awarding business grants to numerous dedicated supporters, enabling them to turn their entrepreneurial aspirations into reality. These grants have not only transformed the lives of the recipients but also contributed to the overall economic growth and development of the constituency, as these ventures create jobs, stimulate innovation, and foster a spirit of entrepreneurship.

A PROMISING FUTURE

Indeed, Dr. Patrick Umoh's achievements within just one year have dwarfed many, and as Ann McGee-Cooper quoted above, he quietly worked to transform his constituency.

However, Dr. Umoh in a recent interview said he is grateful to his political leader and mentor, Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, President of the 10th Senate, for paving the way, showing the way, and guiding him along the way.

Umoh's first year in office has indeed exemplified effective representation at its zenith, and I am sure everyone is eagerly anticipating the continued positive impact of his representation in the years to come.

Tons of gratitude and commendations have continued to pour in for the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his people-centric leadership and numerous life-touching projects in Ibiono Ibom, in just one year in office; the latest eulogy is coming from Ibiono Ibom Welfare Association and Development Union (IWADU), a foremost socio-cultural and political organisation.

During the National General meeting of the organization on Saturday, at the Udom Emmanuel IWADU House, Ikpa, the Union members who filled the hall to the brim, unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the Governor and pledged their total support and solidarity to his ARISE Agenda.

The meeting, presided over by International President, Prince Godwin Okon and attended by his executive members, was also graced by the presence of HRM Edidem (Dr.) Ime Udo Usoro Inyang, the Paramount Ruler of Ibiono Ibom, who was accompanied by his Council of Chiefs. Chairman and members, Board of Trustees of the Union and Chapters of the Union within and outside the State.

Others were: the entire Ibiono Ibom Family Heads (mbọọñ ekpụk), respected sons and daughters of the area including the Chairman, Governing Council of Dakada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC), Isantim Churchill Udoh, Secretary, Transition Committee, Ibiono Ibom Transition Committee, notably professionals, elders, youth and women.

The International President, visibly elated, enumerated numerous projects undertaken by the State Chief Executive in Ibiono Ibom, including: the donation of a fully furnished two-bedroom flat to a widow at Ikot Ekop, Grace Estate in Ibiono Southern; the completion of DASAC at Ikot Ada Idem; and the appointment of Isantim Udoh as Chairman of the Governing Council.

The President also highlighted ongoing projects that drew excitement from the members, namely: Cardinal Ekanem Road, Ring Road III, and the Model Primary School.

The Union also expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Governor for his recent announcement to construct of a State-of-the-art Primary Health Centre and a General Hospital and complete the Use Ikot Amama and Ikpanya roads, as well as numerous other programmes to the benefit of their people. They noted that these initiatives have further demonstrate Governor Eno's immense love and dedication to the welfare of their people.

Regarding the forthcoming Local Government Elections, the Union reaffirmed their support for the existing zoning arrangement for the office of the Chairman of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Council, as previously agreed upon by IWADU, Ibiono Clan Council, leaders of thought, and the political class.

They noted that all the five zones in Ibiono have had their turn, emphasizing that the arrangement be respected to maintain harmony and equity in the area.

The union further stressed that the existing zoning arrangement has been instrumental in maintaining peace, promoting harmonious coexistence, and ensuring political stability in the area, and therefore should be upheld.

They explained that the entire five zones have produced elected Chairmen of the council as follows; Ibiono Western, with Mr. Aniedi Jackson Udofia as the Chairman,
Ibiono Eastern; Prince Eyo Utit,
Ibiono Central; Hon Godwin Ekpo, Ibiono Northern; Hon EkomAbasi Akpan and lastly Ibiono Southern; Hon Ekopimo Polycarp.

The apex organisation which fought for the creation of Ibiono Ibom observed that, in order to maintain equity, justice and peaceful co-existence among the five geo-political zones, Ibiono Ibom Welfare and Development Union, IWADU, aligns herself completely with the zoning arrangement as earlier agreed upon by their people to the extent that, Ibiono Ibom Western shall produce the next elected Council Chairman in the 2024 Local Government elections.

However, Ibiono Western comprises wards 4, 5 and 6 and the organization which was established in 1932, urged registered political parties to encourage only those with proven abilities who have taken active part in community development programmes to participate at the polls.

The Union further endorsed a single term for chairmanship position in the Area and advised politicians to resist every temptation to sabotage the long-aged zoning arrangement for their selfish and parochial interest.

Various speakers, including HRM (Dr) Ime Udo Usoro Inyang, Paramount Ruler of the area and Chairman of the Governing Council, DASAC; Isantim Churchill Udoh, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of IWADU; and the leader of Mbọọñ ekpuk, all of whom praised the governor for his exceptional love and support for Ibiono Ibom and commended the IWADU president for his innovative ideas that have fostered greater unity among the Ibiono Ibom people.

Meanwhile, the highlights of the national meeting featured a vote of confidence in Pastor Umo Eno and a pledge to support his ARISE agenda wholeheartedly.

The meeting also reaffirmed the existing zoning arrangement, whereby the next elected Chairman of the Council will come from either Ward 4, 5, or 6 in Ibiono Ibom Western.

Additionally, IWADU presented a 1.5 million Naira cheque to 100 women in the area to improve their businesses and donated 200,000 Naira towards the ongoing construction of the Ibiono Ibom House.

The Center noted that under the watch of Daniel Udo as Provost, the College has recorded numerous achievements, including the 100 percent accreditation of the NCE and Degree Programmes of the College, recruitment of new staff to replace exited staff, restoration of public power supply after years of blackout, reinvigoration and equipping of Education Technology Unit and the ICT Centre, establishment of effective portal, development of the entrepreneurial centre, establishment of transportation scheme, the running of an uninterrupted academic calendar, the achievement of peace and harmony on campus, the exhumation of over 9,000 NCE certificates that were pending since 2010, the development and use of the ICT to conduct free, fair and transparent Students Union Government elections, and the reinvigoration of sports and sporting activities.

The Center noted that the degree programme of the College, run in affiliation with the Faculty of Education of the University of Uyo, is fast rising in patronage but decried that the College cannot admit beyond the quota assigned to it.

The Center urged the State Government to provide a masterplan for the College, perimeter fence, quality infrastructure, access and link roads within the College.

The CHRAN recalled that it has, recently, paid advocacy visits to the College during which it appraised the College and recommended that it be upgraded to the status of a University of Education.

One of the renowned political leaders and activists in history; Mahatma Gandhi, left us with a profound legacy, including his iconic quote: "Be the change you wish to see in the world".

However, 76 years have passed since his tragic assassination on 30th January, 1948, yet Gandhi's wise statement continues to inspire many good leaders worldwide to embody the change they desire. One of them is the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, Senator Aniekan Etim Bassey, who has exemplified this philosophy through his tireless efforts to develop youths in Akwa Ibom.

Interestingly, one tool that the Uruan-born Entrepreneur turned politician is using to 'Change the world' is RHAB-YESS, an acronym for the Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey Youth Entrepreneurial Support Scheme.

Bassey launched this visionary Foundation in 2020 in response to the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought almost all human activities to a standstill. His aim was to bring hope to those who had lost it.

Through RHAB-YESS Foundation, the former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, has made a profound impact. He has transformed the lives of many, revitalized businesses, and empowered numerous Akwa Ibom youths to transition from unemployment to becoming job creators, thereby positively influencing the socio-economic landscape of the State.

Sincerely, the impact of RHAB-YESS Foundation is truly remarkable. As of the last count, this visionary initiative has positively impacted the lives of over 296 youths, equipped over 70 artisans with invaluable skills, and provided vital support to over 812 individuals across the State. This is the embodiment of Mahatma Gandhi's iconic philosophy - a leader who not only screams and advocates for change, but also works tirelessly to bring about positive transformations.

As a renowned change-maker, Senator Bassey has continued to demonstrate his unwavering dedication to empowering the people who entrusted him with their mandate. In fact, since his arrival at the 10th Senate, he has been tirelessly fulfilling his responsibilities in lawmaking, representation, and oversight, but, with a special focus on uplifting the very individuals who sent him to represent them.

Senator Bassey's latest initiative, a FREE DIGITAL MARKETING TRAINING programme, which is open to all Akwa Ibomites across the 31 Local Government Areas, is indeed, a tremendous opportunity that is poised to revolutionize the lives of Akwa Ibom youths. In today's digitally driven world, digital marketing has become a goldmine, which offers vast prospects for growth, innovation, and financial freedom.

According to the Senator's Media Unit, the forthcoming digital marketing training, starting 3rd June 3rd till 25th June, 2024, every Monday and Tuesday, 11am-12pm, promises to be a game-changer. This comprehensive programme, which culminates in certificate awards, is meticulously designed to empower every participant with the cutting-edge online tools and techniques necessary to launch, grow, and expand his business. The training will delve into a wide range of topics, including starting an online business from scratch, harnessing online tools to boost revenue, navigating the intricacies of social media and Google ads, analyzing data from online insights, and much more.

Upon closer examination, it is evident that, Senator Bassey is synergizing with the vision of the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, as encapsulated in the ARISE agenda. This laudable collaboration is a welcome development as it will yield remarkable results and pave the way for a brighter future for our people.

In light of this, as our wise saying goes, "when one is climbing a good ladder, he needs a push." Senator Aniekan Bassey, a pacesetter in youth development, is going above and beyond his duties a

PoliticsUmo Eno's Contract With Akwa Ibom People Yielding Dividends by Assamjnr(op): 9:34am On May 08, 2024
Written by Lucy Daniel, Posted by Ubong Assam Jnr, Eket

When on November 8, 2022, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, flagged -off his campaign in Uyo, he publicly declared his avowed intention and commitment to serve the people of the state as his contract with the people.

This contract, he reiterated, is for Akwa Ibom people ,both at home and in the diaspora and includes the pledge to continue in the path of peace, security and development.

Besides, the contract, he said, encompasses job creation and enlargement of paths for economic prosperity, maintainance and advancement of infrastructure, food security, quality education and a contract to stem rural -urban migration among others.

Pastor Eno, on that occasion, unveiled a contract for peace, unity, brotherhood and above all, a contract with God as the Author and Finisher of our lives.

In summary, he summed up that contract in one word, ARISE, which stands for Agricultural revolution, rural development, infrastructural maintenance/advancement, security management as well as educational management.

These lofty ideas, like the proverbial harmattan wind, captured the minds of the electorate which instantly believed and embraced it up to the point of demonstrating same during the 2023 guber polls.

Upon his inauguration as governor on May 29, 2023, Pastor Eno declared his commitment to religiously execute his programmes and policies based on the ARISE Agenda, to the satisfaction of all Akwa Ibomites.

Hopes and anxiety filled the land as many waited for the dreams and visions to come true while others saw it as mere political gimmicks which are never realised.

Almost one year into Governor Eno's tenure, he has demonstrated his zeal and capacity by delivering the much-needed dividends of democracy to the Akwa Ibom people.

In the area of agriculture, he has declared every first and third fridays of the month as farming days while government offices remain closed.

Also, he has attracted the Songhai model farm into the state in a bid to enhance food sufficiency for the masses.

Moreover, agricultural inputs have often been distributed to farming groups and individuals in addition to loans and grants aimed at boosting food production in the state.

In the area of education, the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre in Ibiono Ibom and model schools at Christ The King School, Uyo and Ewet Offot have been completed.

This is in addition to provision of basic facilities at Akwa Ibom State University, Ikot Akpaden as well as the State Polytechnic at Ikot Osurua and College of Education at Afaha Nsit.
Primary and Secondary Schools have also benefited tremendously as new facilities have been provided to improve on the teaching and learning activities.

Retired primary school teachers in the state whose gratuities were not paid for years now are now smiling as the government has paid outstanding gratuities to them.

On infrastructure, contract for the construction of over 100 roads have been awarded . Works are either ongoing or completed in some of them across the state.

Gully erosion is also receiving adequate attention while desilting of drainage is being intensified, especially as Akwa Ibom is one of the states mentioned as flood-prone states this year.

To oil the machinery of government, new permanent secretaries have been appointed and trained for effective execution of their duties.

Civil servants have been trained and provided with the necessary working tools to enhance their performance.

For traders, the governor has been visiting them and giving them money to improve their businesses and income.

In collaboration with the private sector, the governor, since his assumption of office last year, has been creating a conducive environment towards the establishment of business ventures to absorb some of the unemployed youths in the state.

He has also encouraged entrepreneurs to improve their services and output.

The rural areas being the main focus of his government, Governor Umo Eno has provided potable water, electricity, market, health facilities and good roads to improve the quality of life in the areas and also encouraged the people to live in their villages and carry out farming activities to feed the people.

In the security sector, Neighbourhood Watch has been established in all communities while the government has donated gun-boats and other facilities like patrol vehicles to security agencies to ensure the safety of the state on land and sea.

Recently, forty Hilux trucks were handed over to the police to check the activities of criminals in Akwa Ibom.

Within the past one year, the governor has been meeting with investors, both local and foreign, with the sole aim of getting them to establish their business in the state.

He has so far ensured that investors have access Akwa Ibom conveniently from the air, land and water.

So far, Akwa Ibom is the aviation hub of Nigeria as Ibom Air, the only state -owned airline in Nigeria, is extending her services to neighbouring countries in West Africa and the Gulf of Guinea.

In collaboration with the Federal Government, the Ibom Deep Seaport is soon to become a reality after spending many years in the drawing board.

Above all, Gov Umo Eno has established a very cordinal relationship with the Federal Government to attract federal amenities into Akwa Ibom.

So far, the Federal College of Education has been established while work is ongoing at the power station in Idedep, Ibiono Ibom as well as Calabar -Itu Road.

The traditional institution, women and youth have also been touched positively by the administration.

Within one year in office, one can state unequivocally that Governor Umo Bassey Eno has delivered on his mandate as encapsulated in his ARISE Agenda and is hungry to do more within the next three years and beyond.

PoliticsAkwa Ibom Remapping Law And The Dangerous Effect Of Fake News by Assamjnr(op): 11:43am On May 03, 2024

It is essential to recognize and address the evils of propaganda during communal crises to minimize the damage caused while promoting harmony and understanding.

Propaganda in communal crises is detrimental as it promotes the spreading of false information and misconceptions, intensifying existing tensions. By distorting facts, manipulating emotions, and exploiting vulnerabilities, propaganda fuels hatred and animosity between people who might already be at odds.

This misinformation not only deepens existing divisions but can also breed new conflicts that would have otherwise been avoidable as evident in recent publications sponsored by one Manfred Ekpe a wannabe lawyer in the recent remapping court judgment.

I would like to point out that propaganda in communal crises impairs the process of peace-building and reconciliation by spreading messages of vengeance, and retaliation.

However, Mr. Manfred Ekpe and his cohorts should realize that he undermines the efforts of the government to promote dialogue, compromise, and forgiveness and know that his actions strengthen extremist ideologies and radicalize individuals who might have otherwise been open to reconciliation, making it extremely challenging to reconcile differences and build a wave of sustainable peace.

Finally, the evils of fake news have long-lasting effects on society. The seeds of hatred, division, and mistrust sown by propaganda can permeate future generations, hindering the prospects of a harmonious and united community. The scars left by propaganda during crises take time to heal, requiring substantial efforts to rebuild trust, repair relationships, and foster a sense of unity among different groups.

Manfred Ekpe and his gang of false news peddlers should understand that false information, hinders peace building, incites violence, and has long-lasting damage to societal relations and should be called to order.

Lastly, it is pertinent to note that the Remapping case between Obolo people and Akwa Ibom State was not struck out or dismissed as paddled by a section of hired media but was rather transferred to the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State for hearing in a state High Court.

It is also worth noting that the court didn't venture into the substantive matter.

PoliticsGovernor's Birthday: Mrs. Asuakak Umoh Covers Hospital Bills, Gives Huge Items by Assamjnr(op): 9:27am On Apr 25, 2024

Following Governor Umoh Eno's heartfelt birthday appeal to support the less privileged and vulnerable, Mrs. Tima Asuakak Umoh, wife of the Secretary, Transition Committee of Ibiono Ibom LGA, on Wednesday, showcased remarkable kindness and compassion.

Recall that the Clergyman-turned-Governor had instructed that instead of throwing lavish celebrations, those who wish to celebrate his birthday should channel their resources to the vulnerable, and Mrs. Umoh took this instruction to heart. She visited St. Theresa's Hospital, Use Abat, where she and her team were received by the Matron of the health facility, Regina Fabian. At Eduwem Clinic, Ntan Akpan Udom, Mrs. Umoh was received by Dr. Effiong Inyang, where she generously paid the hospital bills at the two facilities and presented bags containing beverages and other essential items to bring joy and comfort to all patients.

At St. Theresa's Hospital, Mrs. Ekaette Paul, a patient who benefited from Mrs. Umoh's kindness, on behalf of nine other beneficiaries expressed her gratitude: 'I was worried about how to pay my hospital bill, but Mrs. Tima's visit has lifted that burden off me. May God bless her and Governor Umoh Eno for their kindness.

''All patients at this hospital are appreciative of your generous monetary gift along with this substantial bag of gift items. We pray to God to bless you, bless our father the Governor, and grant him wisdom to lead Akwa Ibom. I pray to God to give him a long life and protection in Jesus' name.''

Similarly, at Eduwem Clinic, Madam Helen Akpan, another beneficiary, a severe diabetic patient, who spoke on behalf of others, praised Mrs. Umoh's selfless act: 'We are grateful for your compassion and generosity. Indeed, your visit has brought hope and relief to us, and we pray that God Almighty richly blesses you, your dear husband, and our Governor as he adds another year today.''

However, Matron of St. Theresa's Hospital, Mrs. Regina Fabian, and Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Eduwem Clinic, Dr. Effiong Okon, also commended Mrs. Umoh's humanitarian work, thanking her for identifying with those who need it most on the Governor's birthday.

In a chat with our reporter after the visit, which lasted over four (4) hours, Mrs. Asuakak Umoh lauded her husband for having the vulnerable at heart and graciously planning to visit them at the two hospitals on Governor's Birthday, coinciding with the warm appeal given by the governor to those who wish to celebrate his birthday.

''Our governor is not used to throwing parties and dining with the wealthy during his birthdays. Rather, he often prefers to be with the less privileged. On behalf of my dear husband, we decided to follow the footsteps of the governor and to give our token to our mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters who are in the hospitals while also praying for their quickest recovery.'

Assuring that her family will make such visits a regular practice, Mrs. Asuakak Umoh, a professional Health Educator, encouraged everyone to keep the Governor and the Akwa Ibom first family in their prayers.

Meanwhile, the Ibiono Ibom secretary's wife was accompanied by her friends, including Mrs. Peace Itohowo Bassey, Barr. (Mrs) Hannah Idara Bassey, Mrs. Peace Prince Hanson, among others.

Christianity EtcEaster: Oku Ibom Ibibio Advises Christians To Emulate The Exemplary Life Of Chri by Assamjnr(op): 5:34pm On Mar 30, 2024
...Urges Akwa Ibomites To Live Together In Unity, Love And Harmony

Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr.

The Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence, Ntenyin Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP, CFR, has urged Christians to emulate the exemplary life of Jesus Christ as demonstrated during his mission of salvation on earth.

In his Easter message, Ntenyin Etuk, the Patriarch of the Ibibios Worldwide, said that as followers of Jesus Christ, faithful have to show good virtues of godliness, discipline, honesty and love for one another.

The premier royal father of Akwa Ibom State emphasized that believers must greatly treasure the exceptional sacrifice of Jesus Christ through his death and resurrection, which offered salvation to mankind.

He warned against greed, hatred, disunity, covetousness and economic sabotage, saying that such lifestyles, apart from not being in tandem with the expected virtues of a good Christian, are generally endemic to the well-being, peace, love and development of the society.

The message reads, "On behalf of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, I convey our best wishes to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, and the entire people of the state on this occasion of Easter celebration.

"Easter is a very solemn season for Christians and the world in general. It reminds us of the messianic role of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, whose death and resurrection became the atonement for our sins and also renewed our sonship with the Almighty God, as recorded in Galatians 4:4–7."

“The season further reminds us of the genuine love shown to us by our father in heaven by sending his only beloved son to us to sacrifice his precious life on our behalf. Love and sacrifice are therefore the essence of the season, hence the expectation that we show love to one another beyond the boundaries of families and friends.

"For emphasis, the life of Jesus Christ remains a great lesson for all faithful. We have to reflect on his life and follow in his footsteps. Leaders at all levels have to likewise be exemplary in their conduct. They have to be honest and committed to carrying out their entrusted responsibilities to the people, communities, states and nations, as Jesus Christ did without blemish.

"We urge our people to be obedient in carrying out God's command and to respect leaders and constituted authorities to ensure orderliness, peace and progress in the society.

The patriarch admonished everyone in Akwa Ibom State to live in peace with one another, adding that with the harsh effects of the economic situation across the country, people have to show brotherly love and touch lives as much as possible, maintaining that through love and togetherness, the state can be built to greater heights.

"We cannot claim to be good Christians if we fail to practice God's ways and what Jesus Christ taught us. In our daily conduct, we have to show love and live in peace with one another so that the world can be a better place for us all," he added.

The Oku Ibom Ibibio expressed happiness with the various policies and programmes initiated by the federal and state governments aimed at curbing the negative impact of the economy on society.

He urged those responsible for implementing these schemes to carry them out diligently to achieve their intended purposes.

Ntenyin Etuk further called on political, religious and traditional leaders to set good examples so that followers could learn from them, and appealed to all stakeholders and the people to support Governor Umo Eno in his governance of the state.

He noted that the impact of Governor Umo Eno’s Arise Agenda programme was already being felt across the state through project execution covering roads, health, education, agriculture, and the payment of pensions and gratuities to retired workers and next-of-kin among others

AKSEPWMA Resource Persons Forum Refutes False Publication, Pledges Support For Gov. Eno

Disheartened by the spread of false claims in the media by an anonymous group identifying as Sub-Contractors for Sweeping and Evacuation, the Resource Persons Forum of the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA) has stepped forward to dispel these unfounded allegations. The group however, reiterated their maximum support for Governor Umo Eno and his ARISE Agenda.

In a press statement issued yesterday and endorsed by Pastor Robert Bob; Chairman,
Chief Basyl Obo-Ayama; Secretary
and Mr. Edikan Udott; PRO, the Resource Persons Forum emphasized their role as the recognized interface between the Agency and its workers, employed in accordance with the Akwa Ibom Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency Law. They distanced themselves from the false claims made in the publication, particularly regarding the employment and dismissal of workers, labeling such assertions as false and misleading.

The Forum reaffirmed their commitment to working with AKSEPWMA to uphold Akwa Ibom's reputation as Nigeria's cleanest state and to support the ARISE Agenda of Governor Eno for environmental sustainability.

The official statement reads in part: "The attention of the Resource Persons Forum of Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA) has been drawn to an open letter by certain individuals under the auspices of Forum of Sub-Contractors for Sweeping and Evacuation to our dear Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno published in some national dailies specifically The Guardian and Vanguard Newspapers of March 20, 2024 respectively.

"Ordinarily, we would have overlooked this piece of falsehood and cheap propaganda from these paid agents of destabilization to malign the integrity of the performing Chairman of the Agency, Obong Prince Akpan Ikim and the entire Board Members. But for the purpose of clarification and to guide the public, we wish to state categorically that:

"Whereas, as Resource Persons, we were employed by the Agency pursuant to the extant law of the Akwa Ibom Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency Law Cap 47 of 2000.

"Whereas, we are the only known and recognized Resource Persons that interface between the Agency and our workers.

"Whereas, as contained in our various letters of appointment, the date of appointment and termination were clearly stated in our appointment letters which had since elapsed.

"Whereas, the claims of employing and sacking 5,000 road sweepers and evacuators by the Agency is totally false and shows a gross ignorance on the part of these peddlers of falsehood.

"Whereas, a critical analysis of the publication reveals a deliberate and unsuccessful attempt to weave falsehood and emotions to attract public sympathy, cause disaffection and embarrass the state government.

"Whereas, the signatories to the ill-motivated publication from our records do not exist at any level of the Forum and therefore, such publication should be totally disregarded.

"Whereas, we call on our workers to exercise patience as the Agency has finalized preparations to appoint Resource Persons for resumption of normal activities.

"Whereas, the leadership and members of this Forum completely disassociate themselves from the said publication and call on relevant agencies of government to investigate the source and sponsors of this blackmail and bring the perpetrators out to face the consequences of their ill-motivated actions.

"Whereas, we restate our commitment to work with the Agency toward sustaining the state's record as the cleanest state in Nigeria and achieving the ARISE Agenda in respect to environmental sustainability in the state.

"Whereas, we commend our dear Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno for his leadership style that has redefined governance in the state. The ongoing infrastructural and other strategic sectoral development across the state have given a new lease of life to Akwa Ibom people.

"Whereas, we pledge our unalloyed loyalty to the Governor and reassure him of our commitment to support all his laudable programmes for the benefits of our people.

"Whereas, we pass a vote of confidence on the Chairman of the Agency, Obong Prince Akpan Ikim and his team for their effort to sustain the tempo of keeping our environment clean."

InvestmentWhat Gov. Umo Eno's Partnership With China Means For Akwa Ibom Economy [part 1] by Assamjnr(op): 10:32am On Mar 08, 2024
Henshaw NYONG

Governor Umo Eno's recent discussions with the Chinese Ambassador, Cui Jianchun, go beyond typical political chatter or attention-seeking antics; instead, this partnership deal is indeed a game-changer for Akwa Ibom's economy.

Truly, a new dawn is breaking in our state as Governor Umo Eno takes bold steps to ensure a better future for Akwa Ibom. His partnership with China, an economic powerhouse, isn't just a milestone; it is a significant move towards prosperity, unlike anything seen before on the entire African continent.

As the second-largest economy globally, China presents vast opportunities for our state. Governor Eno's steadfast resolve to secure advantageous trade privileges with these global leaders demonstrates his dedication to reshaping our economic outlook. This collaboration transcends mere figures; it's about improving lives and lifting over 7 million Akwa Ibomites out of poverty.

It's worth stressing that China boasts the world's second-largest economy, valued at $17.9 trillion in 2022, just behind the United States with $25.4 trillion. But when we consider purchasing power, China surpasses the United States, with $30.3 trillion compared to America's $25.4 trillion. This shows China's strong economic standing. Pastor Umo Eno, being a successful entrepreneur, understands the significance of such partnership and collaborations to boost Akwa Ibom's economy, especially given Nigeria's tough economic situation. Indeed, by working with China, our Governor will further achieve the objectives of his ARISE Agenda, and why not, lead Akwa Ibom towards similar economic success.

Now, let's see how this strategic partnership with China will bring benefits for the common man in our rural areas and hinterlands; Eastern Obolo, Mbo, Ini, Ika and the entire Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom and what it means for our economy:

1. Local Farmers:

In every village in Akwa Ibom, we have local farmers who play a crucial role in our economy. Through this partnership with China, the agricultural sector in our state will surely receive a significant boost. This collaboration with China will provide our local farmers with access to advanced technology and expertise, enabling them to improve productivity, increase yields, and secure their livelihoods.

Similar to how China has supported its own farmers, Akwa Ibom people can expect access to modern farming equipment, training programmes, and market opportunities. This partnership which is coming at the right time, will empower our farmers to thrive in a competitive market, particularly amidst the current economic challenges facing our country.

2. Small Businesses:

In almost every home in Akwa Ibom, there exists a small business. Governor Umo Eno's collaboration with China offers a lifeline for these enterprises. Small businesses in Akwa Ibom stand to benefit greatly from this partnership. As the Governor focuses on the people's welfare in line with his ARISE agenda, his ties with the world's second-largest economy will provide every family in Akwa Ibom engaged in small businesses with access to international markets, funding support, and business training programmes. This collaboration will also provide an opportunity for small businesses owned by our brothers and sisters to expand and compete on a global scale. So, in practical terms, this partnership will empower our small businesses to innovate, grow, and contribute to the economic vibrancy of Akwa Ibom, bringing us closer to the level of success seen in China.

The immediate-past National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Emmanuel Enoidem SAN, has strongly rebuffed recent claims circulating on various social media platforms suggesting his interest in vying for the position of State Chairman of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State.

In a rebuttal issued on Wednesday, the longest-serving NLA dismissed the allegations as "evil misinformation, spurious and baseless hogwash."

The rebuttal, which was signed by Enoidem's attorney, Thompson Thompson, Esq., emphasized the urgency of setting the record straight to prevent the spread of misleading information to the unsuspecting public.

"It read: The attention of Emmanuel Enoidem SAN, has been drawn to a poorly written commentary, posted on TheSensor Newspaper closed WhatsApp group and other sundry platforms, purporting that the learned silk is aspiring to vie for the office of State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State. Nothing could be further from the truth.

"Ordinarily, the learned silk would not have bothered to respond, in order not to give life to the spurious and baseless hogwash, in view of the quarters where it is coming from, given their predisposition to peddling utter falsehood and wild concoctions about persons, who refuse to prune their character to pygmy levels like theirs, for a bowl of transient power. Of course, their disposition to dishonesty, double-speak, avarice, anarchy, subterfuge and power mongering are well known.

"Barrister Enoidem however feels the urgent need to set the records straight, in order to save the unsuspecting public from being misled by the evil misinformation of the planters of the fiction whose agenda is to sow discord:

1. Emmanuel Enoidem (SAN) is by the special grace of God, the immediate past National Legal Adviser (NLA) of the largest political party in Africa, the PDP.

2. He was the longest serving NLA of PDP to date, since the party’s founding in 1998.

3. As a result of the position that he occupied, all legal matters affecting the party, its organs, its personnel and interests in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT were under his direction.

4. Being the man of strong principles therefore, Barrister Enoidem (SAN) could not possibly aspire to vie for the office of State Chairman of the same party in 2024, after serving at the National Office and leaving same with accolades and distinction, no matter the desperation.

5. Indeed, Barrister Enoidem (SAN) is more known for his stubborn insistence on transitioning from one low rung of the ladder to a higher pedestal throughout his political and life’s journeys.

6. Unlike the paymasters of the fiction writer who do anything to cling to power no matter how lowly or ridiculous, Barrister Enoidem has a steady character which abhors running a falling graph.

7. Barrister Enoidem has never discussed nor considered the possibility of aspiring to any office of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State now or in the future.

8. As a lifetime dedicated and devoted member of PDP, Barrister Enoidem (SAN) will continue to do all it takes to support the party and its structures to survive, thrive and spread the dividends of democracy to all nooks and crannies of Akwa Ibom State and the rest of Nigeria, devoid of selfish plots and self-serving shenanigans. He works tirelessly behind the curtains to give support to elected representatives of the party at all levels, including the Executive Governor of our dear State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, the leader of the party in the State.

"Lastly, Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem (SAN) is an extremely principled, disciplined and self-contented man who does not allow his personal ambitions to disrupt established culture, acceptable traditions and hallowed doctrine of our great party, and the human society. It bears repeating that the senatorial district which shall produce the next State Chairman of PDP has never been in doubt.

"Therefore, there has never been a contemplation, discussion or consideration of any ambition to vie for any office of the party by Enoidem. If anything, Enoidem remains the bastion of faith and hope in the redemptive powers of the PDP, above the calamitous rampage of the ruling APC and its numerous sidekicks which have rendered Nigeria comatose these past years.

"Enoidem will team up with other like-minded citizens to bring an end to the disastrous APC era in our country and foist a new and brighter future of love, wealth, togetherness, growth and development in our country. No amount of concoctions and fear by the jittery opposition, will stop him."
