Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General, Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP, CFR, has charged Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio and other socio-cultural organisations to remain committed to the promotion of unity, development and to engender goodwill for Ibibio and Akwa Ibom State in general.

The Akwa Ibom premier royal father maintains that no one else will take the interests of Ibibio and Akwa Ibom State more seriously or build our land better than we should do and therefore urged all hands to be on deck.

Ntenyin Etuk gave the advice in his speech at the three-fold celebration by Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio – the installation of Ntisong IV, Obong Pius James Okon; send-forth ceremony of Ntisong III, Obong Engr. Essien Ekidem and its 44th anniversary of existence at Asan Ibibio, Ikot Oku Ikono, Uyo Local Government Area on Friday, March 7, 2025.

He said, “Today’s event is therefore a call to duty for Ntisong IV and his Executives – vis-à-vis the Mkpisong Council and the entire members. The slogan of Ima, Mboho ye Eduek which resonates with the vision and mission of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio at its formation must be vigorously pursued under the new dispensation. In essence, Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio, likewise Ibibio Elders Forum (Adaha Ibibio); Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio; Ibibio Academic Roundtable; Ibibio National Union; Ekid People's Union and others, must continue to remain steadfast, uphold the values of our society and be a source of unity and pride for all Ibibio sons and daughters worldwide.

While congratulating the leadership and members of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio for its success story in its over four decades of existence, the premier monarch paid glowing tributes to the pioneer leaders of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio such as Chief (Barr.) Vincent Uwemedimo, Ntisong 1 and Chief Sebastian James Umoren, Ntisong II and others, for their foresights and teamwork for the growth of Ibibio people.

He stated, “As we gather, memories of pioneer leaders of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio such as Chief (Barr.) Vincent Uwemedimo, Ntisong 1 and Chief Sebastian James Umoren, Ntisong II and others, re-echo in our minds. Without equivocation, the birth of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio as a socio-cultural organisation was borne out of the passionate desire to have a unifying platform for Ibibio people in line with the ideals of the legendary Ibibio Union and Ibibio State Union respectively.
We must therefore continue to pay tribute to our legendary forebears for their deep foresights and rewarding endeavours which laid the solid foundation for who we are today within the Nigerian polity and the globe, generally.”

He assured that Ifim Ibom Ibibio as the apex traditional institution in Ibibio land and the conclave for all traditional rulers – the Paramount rulers, Clan heads, Village heads and the Chieftaincy title holders; will always oversights on the activities of socio-cultural organisations in Ibibio land to ensure unity of purpose, love, progress and harmonious co-existence in our polity.

“As the Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Ifim Ibom Ibibio, I encourage you all to take the interests of Ibibio and Akwa Ibom State very seriously. No one else will build our land better than we should do. Remember the Ibibio saying, Edioñg sé eyené.

Ntenyin Etuk therefore called on all Akwa Ibomites to support our State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD and his administration in the implementation of the ARISE AGENDA, expressing delight with the performance record so far accomplished by the governor within his twenty two months in office.

“We can all attest that Governor Umo Eno, PhD has done well since he assumed the mantle of leadership of our State. He has governed inclusively without political discrimination. After politics comes governance and our son, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno has has clearly exhibited so.

“A proof of this is his close working relationship with the Senate President, His Excellency, Obong Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON and His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President/Commander-in-Chief of Nigerian Armed Forces. This synergy accounted for the recent all-inclusive 104-member Akwa Ibom delegation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where we conferred on him the highest Chieftaincy title of Otuekong Akwa Ibom State,” he added.

Oku Ibom Ibibio further appealed to all sons and daughters of Akwa Ibom State to live in harmony and love one another, and rally to collectively detest the recent trend where the Media, particularly social media is employed to castigate and run down one another under the guise of media trial.

“The ‘pull-down-syndrome’ is an ill-wind that blows nobody good. Our sons and daughters in the Media should refrain from being used in this wild political tirade. Let us rally around and protect our sons and daughters. Where and when there is need for criticism, it should be sound and objective towards building a virile society,” he stressed.

In a bid to equip Akwa Ibom youths with practical skills for self-reliance, a leading name in interior décor, JLUX Decor Koncepts, has strengthened its commitment to training individuals in various aspects of the industry.

The company, which specializes in Italian paints and designs, exotic floors, POP installation, furnishing, woodwork, curtains, Venetian blinds, industrial cleaning, general contracts, and consultancy, is championing skills development as a way of giving back to society.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jonathan Udoh, made this known yesterday in a chat with newsmen at the company’s head office, 202 Oron Road, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Udoh observed that the initiative was in line with the ARISE Agenda of the Pastor Umo Eno administration, which prioritizes skills acquisition and development to empower individuals and enhance their relevance in society.

He described the training initiative as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), aimed at equipping youths with marketable skills to boost economic growth and financial independence.

His words: "I don’t believe in constantly giving people fish; I believe in equipping them with the skills to fish for themselves. The masterclass by JLUX stems from my passion to bridge the gap between talent and technical expertise. My goal is to ensure that more Akwa Ibom youths acquire the same knowledge and hands-on experience that have helped me thrive in this industry."

The Ibiono Ibom-born entrepreneur revealed that the response to the training has been impressive, with experts teaching participants the rudiments and secrets of the trade while also connecting them to potential clients within and outside the state. The masterclass, according to him, was organized in partnership with Silkcoat Technology, where Mr. Udoh also doubles as a distributor in Uyo.

My advice is simple, look around you; there is always someone God has positioned to help, but only if you are genuine. Politics should not consume your mind. ... Eulogizes National Leaders for Maximum Support

The Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Elder Inemesit Akpan, has assured the party’s national leadership that the state chapter is fully committed to mobilizing massive support and delivering at least two million votes in the 2027 general elections.

Elder Akpan, who also serves as the Chairman of NNPP State Chairmen across the country, made this declaration on Friday during a strategic meeting with party leaders and stakeholders in Uyo.

He commended the National Leader of the party, His Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for his unwavering commitment to strengthening the NNPP nationwide and fostering internal unity among party members. He also praised the Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for setting an example of visionary leadership, describing his governance style as one that has significantly improved the well-being of citizens.

According to Elder Akpan, the NNPP has demonstrated its capacity to deliver good governance, as seen in various states where the party is making an impact. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing education, infrastructure, and social welfare, noting that these sectors remain key drivers of development. He expressed optimism that the party’s solid track record in governance will convince Nigerians to rally behind the NNPP in 2027.

The Akwa Ibom NNPP Chairman also highlighted the party’s commitment to youth empowerment, economic growth, and job creation, stating that these policies align with the vision of its national leadership. He assured party members that the state chapter is poised to contribute significantly to the party’s national success.

Eulogizing the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the party, a Chieftain of the NNPP and Commissioner for Water Resources in Kano State, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, charged party stakeholders in Akwa Ibom to close ranks and reposition the party for victory in 2027.

The former NNPP Chairman in Kano urged members to unite, remain committed, and adopt strategic measures that will strengthen the party’s structure ahead of the elections.

He used the occasion to specifically praise the party’s National Leader, His Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for propelling the NNPP into national relevance and commended his principal, the Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his transformative policies, stressing that the party has all it takes to take over power at the center in 2027.

The meeting, which had key party figures in attendance, was seen as a crucial step in solidifying the NNPP’s presence in the oil-rich state as preparations intensify for the next general elections.

Politics / Umar Doguwa Tasks Akwa Ibom Nnpp To Re-strategize, Unite Ahead Of 2027 by Assamjnr: 11:50am On Feb 01
••• Reveals That Party Has All It Takes To Occupy Aso Rock

A Chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and Commissioner for Water Resources in Kano State, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, has called on party stakeholders in Akwa Ibom to close ranks and reposition the party for victory in the 2027 general elections.

Hon. Doguwa made the call on Friday during a high-level meeting with party leaders and stakeholders in Uyo, where he stressed the importance of unity and strategic planning in strengthening the party’s foothold in the state and the South-South region at large.

Addressing the gathering, the former NNPP Chairman in Kano lauded the National Leader of the party, His Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for his steadfast commitment to expanding the party’s influence across the country.

He also commended his principal, the Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his remarkable strides in governance, describing his achievements as clear proof that the NNPP remains the best alternative for Nigerians, adding that the party is poised to take over the nation and offer top-notch leadership.

Hon. Doguwa used the occasion to highlight some of Governor Yusuf’s accomplishments in agriculture, water resources, education, health, and security, among others, noting that the administration has, since assuming office, made a significant impact in all key sectors.

The NNPP stalwart pointed to the Governor’s decisive intervention in education, which, he said, saw a historic 31% budgetary allocation in 2025 fiscal year to the sector, the rehabilitation of public schools, the provision of water, and the introduction of scholarships for all pupils and students in public schools across Kano.

He further noted the Governor’s investments in infrastructure, including the completion of abandoned road projects, the construction of new township roads, and the disbursement of over ₦11 billion to pensioners in a bid to ease the financial burden on retirees.

His words: "In the entire country, there is no government that is working like our government. There is no state currently that has witnessed the kind of transformation that my governor is leading.

"For instance, when we came into Kano State, we had 400 schools in one zone with only one teacher. Within the first three months, His Excellency, Abba Kabir Yusuf, implemented a massive employment of 5,624 teachers. Again, when we left government in 2015, we left with 75 boarding schools. Before we came back, the former administration of Ganduje had closed down 40 boarding schools, which led to the schools being neglected. There’s a school we left with 2,400 students, but when we returned to power, we found only 107 students, and we had to revive that crucial sector.

"Another sector that was neglected is the water sector. We didn’t have water in Kano, but I announce that we have ordered 10 high-powered water pumps, each costing over 200 million Naira, and His Excellency has approved the purchase of 10.

"His Excellency, the governor, is budgeting more than 2 billion Naira monthly for the water sector in Kano. He is also opening hospitals, and this year, we have sent more than 1,000 students abroad for post-graduate studies. We have supplied more than one million school uniforms across Kano this year. Every day, we take pupils and students to school for free. We have more than 70 high-capacity buses that transport our children to school and bring them home.

"This year alone, His Excellency, the governor, paid 2.9 billion Naira to NECO. The governor has opened over six general hospitals in Kano, and each local government in Kano will have a 5 km dual carriageway with solar streetlights. As we speak, Kano is becoming like London. I tell you, we have revamped agriculture and all sectors in Kano under the able leadership of His Excellency Abba Yusuf. This model will be replicated across the country."

While urging Nigerians to take note of these achievements, the Kano Water Resources Commissioner emphasized that the NNPP, when it assumes power at the federal level in 2027, would replicate such transformational leadership across the country.

Responding, the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the NNPP, Elder Inemesit Akpan, commended Hon. Doguwa for his visit and assured him of the party’s readiness to galvanize support ahead of 2027.

The Ibesikpo Asutan-born politician who is also the Chairman of NNPP State Chairmen in the Country reiterated that their party in Akwa Ibom was well-positioned to deliver at least two million votes for the party in the next general elections, adding that members would work tirelessly to ensure the party’s success.

The meeting, which had key party figures in attendance, was seen as a crucial step in repositioning the NNPP in Akwa Ibom as the party intensifies preparations for future elections.

As accolades continue to pour in for the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, over his remarkable achievements, a seasoned shipping consultant and politician, Mr. Johnson Attah, has described him as a "jinx breaker" who is redefining governance in Akwa Ibom State.

The maritime expert with over 23 years of experience made this commendation during a media interaction with newsmen and bloggers in Uyo on Tuesday.

Reacting to questions about the Governor’s recent strides, Attah praised Pastor Umo Eno for his unprecedented efforts in resolving long-standing challenges affecting workers and retirees in the state.

His words: "His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D., is truly a jinx breaker. Clearing ₦42 billion in gratuity arrears dating back to 2012 within just 20 months is remarkable. It highlights his commitment to restoring dignity to our senior citizens."

The Mkpat Enin-born former Governorship aspirant further lauded Pastor Eno for implementing the ₦80,000 minimum wage for over 45,000 verified public servants, backdated to November 2024.

"This bold and historic decision reflects His Excellency's empathy for workers, especially during these economically challenging times when prices of goods and services have soared," he noted.

Business / Judge Reserves Ruling In Mareva Injunction Case Involving First Bank, GHL by Assamjnr: 3:35pm On Jan 18
Posted by Ubong Assam Jnr.

The High Court sitting before Justice Dipeolu on Friday, January 17, 2025, heard arguments on an application to set aside a Mareva injunction and other ex parte orders obtained by First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) and FBNQuest Limited against General Hydrocarbons Limited (GHL) and others.

Dr. Abiodun Layonu (SAN), representing the defendants, contended that the plaintiffs failed to disclose critical facts, notably an earlier judgment by Justice Lewis-Allagoa of the Federal High Court. That judgment barred FBN from enforcing any security or assets linked to GHL's oil operations on OML 120 until arbitration proceedings are resolved. Dr. Layonu argued that this omission amounted to suppression of facts, misguiding the court into granting the Mareva injunction.

He emphasized that the plaintiffs improperly approached the court through an originating summons, asserting that the matter remains under arbitration and no judgment sum has been awarded. Furthermore, the plaintiffs, he said, had not proven their case, particularly concerning the disputed sums, before securing the injunction.

Dr. Layonu also highlighted that the contested asset, an oil block, cannot be dissipated or relocated, questioning the rationale for the Mareva order. He accused the plaintiffs of employing “strong-arm tactics,” including media campaigns, to frustrate GHL's operations.

Counsel for the second to fifth defendants, Mr. Olumide Aju (SAN), argued that his clients—directors of GHL—should not have been joined in the suit, as they were not parties to the contract in question nor had they issued personal guarantees. He described the suit as a case of forum shopping and abuse of court processes, urging the court to lift the Mareva order and strike out the case against his clients.

Additionally, Mr. Abiodun Anibaba, representing the sixth and seventh defendants, stated that his clients had no involvement in the transactions under dispute and questioned why they were included in the case. He pointed out procedural irregularities, arguing that an undertaking for damages, required before granting a Mareva injunction, was treated as an afterthought.

After hearing submissions from all parties, Justice Dipeolu reserved ruling on the application to set aside the Mareva injunction.

Politics / Fejiro Oliver: Stop Doing Your Paymaster's Dirty Work To Blackmail Udom Emmanuel by Assamjnr: 4:21pm On Jan 12
COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED BY THE IBOM STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION NETWORK (ISCN) AFTER AN EMERGENCY MEETING HELD ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 11, 2025, AT MBEBENG MODERN HOTEL, 4 HOSPITAL ROAD, UYO, AKWA IBOM STATE.

Fejiro Oliver: Stop Doing Your Paymaster's Dirty Work to Blackmail Udom Emmanuel, CON and Akwa Ibom Leaders!

The Ibom Strategic Communication Network (ISCN), an assembly of seasoned professionals and steadfast advocates for truth, peace, and progressive dialogue in Akwa Ibom State, has observed with profound concern the coordinated onslaught of lies, blackmail, and divisive narratives being peddled against respected leaders of our state, particularly the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, CON. These smear campaigns, evidently sponsored by an individual who is opposed to the peaceful coexistence in Akwa Ibom State, using Fejiro Oliver as a mere pawn, have no place in our beloved state and will be met with the strongest resistance.

For eight years, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, CON, an accomplished banker and statesman of repute, provided Akwa Ibom State with sterling leadership. The remarkable achievements of our revered leader, Mr. Emmanuel, are so numerous and impactful that attempting to document them all would be an endless endeavour. His administration brought about a new wave of development, economic stability, and peace that remains a reference point across Nigeria. He left office with his honour intact, free of scandal, and universally acknowledged as a visionary leader who prioritized the welfare of Akwa Ibom people. It is therefore reprehensible and utterly disgraceful for a desperate detractor to embark on a baseless campaign of calumny against such a distinguished personality.

The ISCN, a network dedicated to promoting transparency, fostering informed communication, and driving meaningful discourse for societal growth, unequivocally warns Fejiro Oliver and other paid blackmailers who have made it their life’s mission to spread falsehoods about Mr. Emmanuel and other Akwa Ibom leaders. Your destructive antics, fueled by personal greed and a toxic hunger for chaos, will no longer be tolerated. We will neither allow enemies of Akwa Ibom in high places nor Fejiro, with no sense of decency, to use their pens or platforms to throw our peaceful state into turmoil for their selfish gain.

Akwa Ibom State has enjoyed peace and stability under successive administrations. This peace will not be compromised by those who thrive on discord. Let it be known that the people of Akwa Ibom will not fold their arms while a known blackmailer and self-styled activist wage an unprovoked war against their collective progress.

The ISCN has, therefore, resolved as follows:

Failure to comply with this warning will result in legal action initiated by our legal team to defend the integrity of our leaders and the reputation of Akwa Ibom State.

1. We warn Fejiro Oliver and his sponsor to stop this shameless display. The administration of His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, CON, was built on unmatched transparency, with all government transactions made public. If they have any evidence to the contrary, instead of acting as judge and jury on social media, Fejiro should grow up and take the matter to the appropriate government body. Mr. Emmanuel has nothing to hide, and it's sheer cowardice to use his name to gain clout and cash by stirring up baseless drama online.

2. We strongly caution all blackmailers and their financiers to redirect their energies to meaningful ventures in their communities. Akwa Ibom is not a playground for political saboteurs, nor will it be reduced to a stage for their disgraceful theatrics.

3. We urge the public to treat these recent attacks as the handiwork of enemies of peace who are bent on destabilizing the most harmonious state in Nigeria. These are people who revel in chaos and political strife, and their motives are clear: to disrupt the unity and progress we have collectively built over the years.

4. We reaffirm our commitment to holding all purveyors of falsehood accountable for their actions. Any individual or group found to be complicit in these malicious acts will face the full weight of the law, as we are determined to defend the honour and dignity of Akwa Ibom State.

The ISCN will continue to stand as a watchdog for truth, fairness, and justice in Akwa Ibom State. We will not allow our leaders, who have served this state with dedication and distinction, to be dragged through the mud by mercenaries of discord. Let this communique serve as a final warning: Peace in Akwa Ibom is sacrosanct, and any attempt to breach it will be met with an unfaltering and decisive response.

Signed:
Atuekong Paul Bassey
Chairman.

Politics / High Court Bars Akwa Ibom Govt From Accessing Ekpri Nsukara Community Sch Land by Assamjnr: 12:31pm On Dec 13, 2024
Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr.

A High Court in Akwa Ibom State has issued an interim injunction restraining the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Lands and Water Resources, the Attorney General, and the Akwa Ibom State Government from any activities on the Ekpri Nsukara Offot Community school land, pending the resolution of a legal dispute.

The order, granted on Thursday, December 12, 2024, by Justice Joy I. Unwana of the Uyo Judicial Division, followed a motion Ex-Parte filed by the Ekpri Nsukara Offot Village through their Counsel, Samuel Ikpo, Esq., in suit no. HU/306/2024.

In the interim injunction, the Court directed the Defendants and their representatives to refrain from entering the 4.321-hectare parcel of land, delineated in Survey Plan No. JEJ/AK/75576, or carrying out any activities on the land until the hearing of the Motion on Notice, scheduled for December 18, 2024.

The community had approached the court on August 9, 2024, citing concerns about alleged attempts to take over their land, which hosts the Ekpri Nsukara Offot International Schools (ENISCO). The situation escalated on December 4, 2024, when individuals reportedly acting on behalf of the Ministries entered the school premises during school hours and dismantled parts of the perimeter fencing and adjoining structures. Prompt action by the Village Head, Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo, and the school's Principal, Elder Domingo Bassey Etim, prevented the situation from escalating further.

According to Eteidung Asikpo, the community had not been notified about any acquisition plans, nor had they received compensation or formal communication from the government. He appealed to the state Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, to intervene and ensure a fair resolution that would protect the community’s educational institution.

Despite being served with court documents, the Defendants have yet to make an appearance or file a defense in the case. The community continues to express hope for a peaceful resolution through the judiciary.

Family / High Court Issues Order On Ekpri Nsukara Offot Community’s Sch Land Acquisition by Assamjnr: 7:32am On Dec 13, 2024
A High Court in Akwa Ibom State has issued an interim injunction restraining the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Lands and Water Resources, the Attorney General of Akwa Ibom State, and the Akwa Ibom State Government from further actions concerning the acquisition of Ekpri Nsukara Offot Community's school land. The order remains effective pending the resolution of a suit filed by the community.

The injunction was granted on Thursday, December 12, 2024, by Justice Joy I. Unwana of the Uyo Judicial Division, following a Motion Ex-Parte filed by the community through their counsel, Samuel Ikpo, Esq. The court directed that no activities should take place on the disputed 4.321 hectares of land until the substantive motion is heard.

The court's order reads: "An Order of Interim Injunction is hereby issued against the Defendants/Respondents, restraining them, their agents, servants, workmen, and any other persons acting on their behalf from entering the Claimants/Applicants’ parcel of land situated at Ekpri Nsukara Road, Ekpri Nsukara Offot, Uyo, measuring 4.321 hectares as delineated in Survey Plan No. JEJ/AK/75576, or undertaking any activities thereon, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice."

The hearing has been adjourned to December 18, 2024.

The Ekpri Nsukara Offot community approached the court after several alleged attempts to forcibly acquire the land, where the Ekpri Nsukara Offot International Schools (ENISCO) is located. The most recent incident occurred on December 4, 2024, when officials reportedly demolished parts of the school’s perimeter fence and adjoining structures during school hours, causing significant tension. Quick intervention by the village head, Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo, and the school principal, Elder Domingo Bassey Etim, averted a potential clash.

The community lamented the lack of official communication or compensation regarding the acquisition. The village head expressed concerns that the actions of those involved might be driven by personal interests rather than public good.

Eteidung Asikpo has called on Governor Umo Eno to intervene and ensure that the matter is resolved amicably, preserving the community’s school and fostering trust between the government and its people.

Despite the court proceedings, it was noted that the defendants have not made any appearances or filed statements of defense. The Ekpri Nsukara Offot community hopes for a peaceful resolution to safeguard their school and prevent further escalation of the matter.

The South-South NNPP leaders also expressed strong support for Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State and other elected members of the party at both state and national levels, describing them as embodiments of the party’s values and commitment to good governance.

The chairmen rejected what they described as a deliberate misrepresentation of the party’s leadership by certain media outlets. They urged journalists to ensure accurate reporting and verify facts from the NNPP’s national headquarters at No. 11 Mahatma Gandhi Street, Area II, Abuja.

On the issue of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, the statement noted that the group remains an integral part of the NNPP. It described claims that the movement poses a threat to the party as unfounded, adding that such rumours are part of a larger plot by detractors to destabilize the party.

The chairmen resolved to remain steadfast in their support for the party’s leadership and principles while resisting any attempts to undermine its unity.

They further called on progressive minds across the South-South region to join the NNPP as the party continues to position itself as a vehicle for Nigeria’s transformation.

Education / False Claims Against Uniuyo VC: Akwa Ibom Unity Forum Issues Retraction, Apology by Assamjnr: 1:50pm On Dec 10, 2024

The Akwa Ibom Unity Forum has publicly retracted and apologized for false allegations made against the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Professor Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, following a petition submitted to the National Universities Commission in May 2023.

Recall that during last year’s general elections in Akwa Ibom, the forum submitted a petition dated May 10, 2023, accusing Professor Nyaudoh Ndaeyo of suppressing records of an alleged expulsion of the then PDP governorship candidate in the state, by the University of Uyo. The petition further claimed that the supposed cover-up was politically motivated and influenced by the prevailing political climate at the time.

However, at a press conference held today in Uyo, the forum, led by Hon. Uko Idiong, Hon. Aniedi Iwok, and Hon. Charles Ndanyongmong, expressed deep regret for the damage caused to the reputation of Pastor Umo Eno, Professor Ndaeyo, the university’s integrity, and the broader academic community. The retraction, according to the forum, follows an internal review that revealed the claims made in the petition were unfounded and based on misinformation.

After a thorough investigation, the organization admitted that all allegations were completely false and based on inaccurate information.

“We deeply regret the distress and embarrassment caused to Professor Ndaeyo and the University of Uyo. The petition, based on misinformation, was an unfortunate episode for which we take full responsibility,” part of the press statement said

The Forum also issued a public apology to the National Universities Commission, the Federal Ministry of Education, and other stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, who were impacted by the false claims.

“We are committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and fairness in all our future engagements. This experience has reinforced our commitment to verifying information before making public statements or submitting petitions,” the statement further read.

Meanwhile, leaders of the Akwa Ibom Unity Forum expressed regret over the incident, even as they acknowledged the valuable lessons learned. They pledged to exercise greater caution in the future and ensure that all information disseminated is thoroughly verified and supported by credible evidence.

Education / Forceful School Land Takeover: Akwa Ibom Community Sends SOS To Gov Eno by Assamjnr: 9:43pm On Dec 08, 2024
Posted by Ubong Assam Jnr.

The people of Ekpri Nsukara Offot Village in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have called on Governor Umo Eno to halt what they described as an alleged forceful takeover of the land hosting their only educational institution, Ekpri Nsukara Offot International Schools (ENISCO).

Their appeal followed an incident on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, when individuals suspected to be state officials, accompanied by police officers and a bulldozer, partially demolished the school’s perimeter fence and adjoining buildings during school hours. The incident, which occurred at about 11:45 a.m., caused tension in the community and was only brought under control through the intervention of the Village Head, Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo, and the school’s Principal, Elder Domingo Bassey Etim.

Speaking to journalists in his palace, Eteidung Asikpo condemned the demolition, describing it as "illegal and barbaric," especially since the community had initiated a court case against the Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, Lands and Water Resources, the Attorney General, and the Akwa Ibom State Government. He revealed that the case (HU/306/2024), filed in August 2024, is still pending, with no defense or appearance from the defendants.

The royal father recounted how the controversy began on July 18, 2024, when a representative of the Commissioner for Agriculture informed him that the land had been marked for storing agricultural equipment. Despite requests for formal communication, none was provided. Subsequent attempts to take over the land included a notice pasted on the school walls and threats of demolition.

The Village Head explained that the land, measuring 4,321 hectares, was unanimously donated by the community’s five families for the establishment of ENISCO in 2015. The project was approved by the state government through the Ministry of Education to cater to the educational needs of their children and neighboring communities. Since then, the school has produced students who have excelled in national examinations conducted by WAEC and NECO.

He further noted that the state government had rehabilitated some classroom blocks in 2022, which were officially commissioned. “It is shocking that the Ministry of Agriculture would prefer to terminate this school for agricultural equipment storage,” he lamented.

Eteidung Asikpo emphasized that the densely populated community, co-hosting the permanent site of the University of Uyo, has no alternative land for relocating the school.

“We therefore plead with our amiable Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, to step into this matter and protect our school from extinction,” he said, urging the state government to respect the pending court case and engage the community in dialogue.
