This decisive move was made on Sunday at a stakeholders' meeting at the political leader's residence, where all other leaders in the area gathered to eulogize and affirm their support for Isang's selfless leadership, emphasizing that he has finally brought unparalleled unity to the area.

The stakeholders, who made the declaration after a motion moved by Hon. Eric Akpan and seconded by two former Councillors, Hon. Inemesit Ubokudom and Hon. They praised the cleric-turned-state chief executive for breaking the development jinx in Nsit Ibom within his first year in office.

Before moving the motion, Hon. Eric Akpan, took ample time to shower encomium on Major General Paul Isang Rtd, describing him as an exceptionally humble individual dedicated to uniting Nsit Ibom. The entire stakeholders, through a voice vote led by a two-time Chapter Chairman of PDP in Nsit Ibom LGA and former legislator, Rt. Hon. Politics / Umo Eno's Contract With Akwa Ibom People Yielding Dividends by Assamjnr: 9:34am On May 08
Written by Lucy Daniel, Posted by Ubong Assam Jnr, Eket

When on November 8, 2022, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, flagged -off his campaign in Uyo, he publicly declared his avowed intention and commitment to serve the people of the state as his contract with the people.

This contract, he reiterated, is for Akwa Ibom people ,both at home and in the diaspora and includes the pledge to continue in the path of peace, security and development.

Besides, the contract, he said, encompasses job creation and enlargement of paths for economic prosperity, maintainance and advancement of infrastructure, food security, quality education and a contract to stem rural -urban migration among others.

Pastor Eno, on that occasion, unveiled a contract for peace, unity, brotherhood and above all, a contract with God as the Author and Finisher of our lives.

In summary, he summed up that contract in one word, ARISE, which stands for Agricultural revolution, rural development, infrastructural maintenance/advancement, security management as well as educational management.

These lofty ideas, like the proverbial harmattan wind, captured the minds of the electorate which instantly believed and embraced it up to the point of demonstrating same during the 2023 guber polls.

Upon his inauguration as governor on May 29, 2023, Pastor Eno declared his commitment to religiously execute his programmes and policies based on the ARISE Agenda, to the satisfaction of all Akwa Ibomites.

Hopes and anxiety filled the land as many waited for the dreams and visions to come true while others saw it as mere political gimmicks which are never realised.

Almost one year into Governor Eno's tenure, he has demonstrated his zeal and capacity by delivering the much-needed dividends of democracy to the Akwa Ibom people.

In the area of agriculture, he has declared every first and third fridays of the month as farming days while government offices remain closed.

Also, he has attracted the Songhai model farm into the state in a bid to enhance food sufficiency for the masses.

Moreover, agricultural inputs have often been distributed to farming groups and individuals in addition to loans and grants aimed at boosting food production in the state.

In the area of education, the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre in Ibiono Ibom and model schools at Christ The King School, Uyo and Ewet Offot have been completed.

This is in addition to provision of basic facilities at Akwa Ibom State University, Ikot Akpaden as well as the State Polytechnic at Ikot Osurua and College of Education at Afaha Nsit.
Primary and Secondary Schools have also benefited tremendously as new facilities have been provided to improve on the teaching and learning activities.

Retired primary school teachers in the state whose gratuities were not paid for years now are now smiling as the government has paid outstanding gratuities to them.

On infrastructure, contract for the construction of over 100 roads have been awarded . Works are either ongoing or completed in some of them across the state.

Gully erosion is also receiving adequate attention while desilting of drainage is being intensified, especially as Akwa Ibom is one of the states mentioned as flood-prone states this year.

To oil the machinery of government, new permanent secretaries have been appointed and trained for effective execution of their duties.

Civil servants have been trained and provided with the necessary working tools to enhance their performance.

For traders, the governor has been visiting them and giving them money to improve their businesses and income.

In collaboration with the private sector, the governor, since his assumption of office last year, has been creating a conducive environment towards the establishment of business ventures to absorb some of the unemployed youths in the state.

He has also encouraged entrepreneurs to improve their services and output.

The rural areas being the main focus of his government, Governor Umo Eno has provided potable water, electricity, market, health facilities and good roads to improve the quality of life in the areas and also encouraged the people to live in their villages and carry out farming activities to feed the people.

In the security sector, Neighbourhood Watch has been established in all communities while the government has donated gun-boats and other facilities like patrol vehicles to security agencies to ensure the safety of the state on land and sea.

Recently, forty Hilux trucks were handed over to the police to check the activities of criminals in Akwa Ibom.

Within the past one year, the governor has been meeting with investors, both local and foreign, with the sole aim of getting them to establish their business in the state.

He has so far ensured that investors have access Akwa Ibom conveniently from the air, land and water.

So far, Akwa Ibom is the aviation hub of Nigeria as Ibom Air, the only state -owned airline in Nigeria, is extending her services to neighbouring countries in West Africa and the Gulf of Guinea.

In collaboration with the Federal Government, the Ibom Deep Seaport is soon to become a reality after spending many years in the drawing board.

Above all, Gov Umo Eno has established a very cordinal relationship with the Federal Government to attract federal amenities into Akwa Ibom.

So far, the Federal College of Education has been established while work is ongoing at the power station in Idedep, Ibiono Ibom as well as Calabar -Itu Road.

The traditional institution, women and youth have also been touched positively by the administration.

Within one year in office, one can state unequivocally that Governor Umo Bassey Eno has delivered on his mandate as encapsulated in his ARISE Agenda and is hungry to do more within the next three years and beyond.

Politics / Akwa Ibom Remapping Law And The Dangerous Effect Of Fake News by Assamjnr: 11:43am On May 03
By Effiong James

Posted by Ubong Assam Jnr

It is essential to recognize and address the evils of propaganda during communal crises to minimize the damage caused while promoting harmony and understanding.

Propaganda in communal crises is detrimental as it promotes the spreading of false information and misconceptions, intensifying existing tensions. By distorting facts, manipulating emotions, and exploiting vulnerabilities, propaganda fuels hatred and animosity between people who might already be at odds.

This misinformation not only deepens existing divisions but can also breed new conflicts that would have otherwise been avoidable as evident in recent publications sponsored by one Manfred Ekpe a wannabe lawyer in the recent remapping court judgment.

I would like to point out that propaganda in communal crises impairs the process of peace-building and reconciliation by spreading messages of vengeance, and retaliation.

However, Mr. Manfred Ekpe and his cohorts should realize that he undermines the efforts of the government to promote dialogue, compromise, and forgiveness and know that his actions strengthen extremist ideologies and radicalize individuals who might have otherwise been open to reconciliation, making it extremely challenging to reconcile differences and build a wave of sustainable peace.

Finally, the evils of fake news have long-lasting effects on society. The seeds of hatred, division, and mistrust sown by propaganda can permeate future generations, hindering the prospects of a harmonious and united community. The scars left by propaganda during crises take time to heal, requiring substantial efforts to rebuild trust, repair relationships, and foster a sense of unity among different groups.

Manfred Ekpe and his gang of false news peddlers should understand that false information, hinders peace building, incites violence, and has long-lasting damage to societal relations and should be called to order.

Lastly, it is pertinent to note that the Remapping case between Obolo people and Akwa Ibom State was not struck out or dismissed as paddled by a section of hired media but was rather transferred to the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State for hearing in a state High Court.

It is also worth noting that the court didn't venture into the substantive matter.

Politics / Governor's Birthday: Mrs. Asuakak Umoh Covers Hospital Bills, Gives Huge Items by Assamjnr: 9:27am On Apr 25
Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr

Following Governor Umoh Eno's heartfelt birthday appeal to support the less privileged and vulnerable, Mrs. Tima Asuakak Umoh, wife of the Secretary, Transition Committee of Ibiono Ibom LGA, on Wednesday, showcased remarkable kindness and compassion.

Recall that the Clergyman-turned-Governor had instructed that instead of throwing lavish celebrations, those who wish to celebrate his birthday should channel their resources to the vulnerable, and Mrs. Umoh took this instruction to heart. She visited St. Theresa's Hospital, Use Abat, where she and her team were received by the Matron of the health facility, Regina Fabian. At Eduwem Clinic, Ntan Akpan Udom, Mrs. Umoh was received by Dr. Effiong Inyang, where she generously paid the hospital bills at the two facilities and presented bags containing beverages and other essential items to bring joy and comfort to all patients.

At St. Theresa's Hospital, Mrs. Ekaette Paul, a patient who benefited from Mrs. Umoh's kindness, on behalf of nine other beneficiaries expressed her gratitude: 'I was worried about how to pay my hospital bill, but Mrs. Tima's visit has lifted that burden off me. May God bless her and Governor Umoh Eno for their kindness.

''All patients at this hospital are appreciative of your generous monetary gift along with this substantial bag of gift items. We pray to God to bless you, bless our father the Governor, and grant him wisdom to lead Akwa Ibom. I pray to God to give him a long life and protection in Jesus' name.''

Similarly, at Eduwem Clinic, Madam Helen Akpan, another beneficiary, a severe diabetic patient, who spoke on behalf of others, praised Mrs. Umoh's selfless act: 'We are grateful for your compassion and generosity. Indeed, your visit has brought hope and relief to us, and we pray that God Almighty richly blesses you, your dear husband, and our Governor as he adds another year today.''

However, Matron of St. Theresa's Hospital, Mrs. Regina Fabian, and Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Eduwem Clinic, Dr. Effiong Okon, also commended Mrs. Umoh's humanitarian work, thanking her for identifying with those who need it most on the Governor's birthday.

In a chat with our reporter after the visit, which lasted over four (4) hours, Mrs. Asuakak Umoh lauded her husband for having the vulnerable at heart and graciously planning to visit them at the two hospitals on Governor's Birthday, coinciding with the warm appeal given by the governor to those who wish to celebrate his birthday.

''Our governor is not used to throwing parties and dining with the wealthy during his birthdays. Rather, he often prefers to be with the less privileged. On behalf of my dear husband, we decided to follow the footsteps of the governor and to give our token to our mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters who are in the hospitals while also praying for their quickest recovery.'

Assuring that her family will make such visits a regular practice, Mrs. Asuakak Umoh, a professional Health Educator, encouraged everyone to keep the Governor and the Akwa Ibom first family in their prayers.

Meanwhile, the Ibiono Ibom secretary's wife was accompanied by her friends, including Mrs. Peace Itohowo Bassey, Barr. (Mrs) Hannah Idara Bassey, Mrs. Peace Prince Hanson, among others.

Ifim Ibom Ibibio, the highest traditional institution in Ibibio land has given its backing for the amendment of the Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Law 2023.

In a statement, Ifim Ibom Ibibio says its decision to have the law amended without distorting its intended purpose to enhance the prestige of the state traditional institution, is to further strengthen certain areas that will engender goodwill among all traditional rulers.

Accordingly, Ifim Ibom Ibibio has raised a memorandum to the State government regarding some areas of the law which attracted contentions – with its views, interests and positions clearly stipulated, including the accommodation of the interests of other segments of the State.

The body, otherwise known as the Supreme Council of Ibibio Traditional Rulers, states "As royal fathers, we have to give thoughts to the fact that in all of these brouhaha 'for and against" the law, the collective interest of Akwa Ibom State is uppermost, and that we must strive to maintain at all times. Therefore, in the pursuit of peace, unity, love and progress lies the demand of inclusivity of all.

"The fact remains incontrovertible that the AKWA IBOM STATE of TODAY remains that "VISION and DREAM" of our great forebears of IBIBIO UNION and later IBIBIO STATE UNION, which eventually materialized in September 1987.

Religion / Easter: Oku Ibom Ibibio Advises Christians To Emulate The Exemplary Life Of Chri by Assamjnr: 5:34pm On Mar 30
...Urges Akwa Ibomites To Live Together In Unity, Love And Harmony

Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr.

The Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence, Ntenyin Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP, CFR, has urged Christians to emulate the exemplary life of Jesus Christ as demonstrated during his mission of salvation on earth.

In his Easter message, Ntenyin Etuk, the Patriarch of the Ibibios Worldwide, said that as followers of Jesus Christ, faithful have to show good virtues of godliness, discipline, honesty and love for one another.

The premier royal father of Akwa Ibom State emphasized that believers must greatly treasure the exceptional sacrifice of Jesus Christ through his death and resurrection, which offered salvation to mankind.

He warned against greed, hatred, disunity, covetousness and economic sabotage, saying that such lifestyles, apart from not being in tandem with the expected virtues of a good Christian, are generally endemic to the well-being, peace, love and development of the society.

The message reads, "On behalf of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, I convey our best wishes to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, and the entire people of the state on this occasion of Easter celebration.

"Easter is a very solemn season for Christians and the world in general. It reminds us of the messianic role of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, whose death and resurrection became the atonement for our sins and also renewed our sonship with the Almighty God, as recorded in Galatians 4:4–7."

“The season further reminds us of the genuine love shown to us by our father in heaven by sending his only beloved son to us to sacrifice his precious life on our behalf. Love and sacrifice are therefore the essence of the season, hence the expectation that we show love to one another beyond the boundaries of families and friends.

"For emphasis, the life of Jesus Christ remains a great lesson for all faithful. We have to reflect on his life and follow in his footsteps. Leaders at all levels have to likewise be exemplary in their conduct. They have to be honest and committed to carrying out their entrusted responsibilities to the people, communities, states and nations, as Jesus Christ did without blemish.

"We urge our people to be obedient in carrying out God's command and to respect leaders and constituted authorities to ensure orderliness, peace and progress in the society.

The patriarch admonished everyone in Akwa Ibom State to live in peace with one another, adding that with the harsh effects of the economic situation across the country, people have to show brotherly love and touch lives as much as possible, maintaining that through love and togetherness, the state can be built to greater heights.

"We cannot claim to be good Christians if we fail to practice God's ways and what Jesus Christ taught us. In our daily conduct, we have to show love and live in peace with one another so that the world can be a better place for us all," he added.

The Oku Ibom Ibibio expressed happiness with the various policies and programmes initiated by the federal and state governments aimed at curbing the negative impact of the economy on society.

He urged those responsible for implementing these schemes to carry them out diligently to achieve their intended purposes.

Ntenyin Etuk further called on political, religious and traditional leaders to set good examples so that followers could learn from them, and appealed to all stakeholders and the people to support Governor Umo Eno in his governance of the state.

He noted that the impact of Governor Umo Eno’s Arise Agenda programme was already being felt across the state through project execution covering roads, health, education, agriculture, and the payment of pensions and gratuities to retired workers and next-of-kin among others

Disheartened by the spread of false claims in the media by an anonymous group identifying as Sub-Contractors for Sweeping and Evacuation, the Resource Persons Forum of the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA) has stepped forward to dispel these unfounded allegations. The group however, reiterated their maximum support for Governor Umo Eno and his ARISE Agenda.

In a press statement issued yesterday and endorsed by Pastor Robert Bob; Chairman,
Chief Basyl Obo-Ayama; Secretary
and Mr. Edikan Udott; PRO, the Resource Persons Forum emphasized their role as the recognized interface between the Agency and its workers, employed in accordance with the Akwa Ibom Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency Law. They distanced themselves from the false claims made in the publication, particularly regarding the employment and dismissal of workers, labeling such assertions as false and misleading.

The Forum reaffirmed their commitment to working with AKSEPWMA to uphold Akwa Ibom's reputation as Nigeria's cleanest state and to support the ARISE Agenda of Governor Eno for environmental sustainability.

The official statement reads in part: "The attention of the Resource Persons Forum of Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA) has been drawn to an open letter by certain individuals under the auspices of Forum of Sub-Contractors for Sweeping and Evacuation to our dear Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno published in some national dailies specifically The Guardian and Vanguard Newspapers of March 20, 2024 respectively.

"Ordinarily, we would have overlooked this piece of falsehood and cheap propaganda from these paid agents of destabilization to malign the integrity of the performing Chairman of the Agency, Obong Prince Akpan Ikim and the entire Board Members. But for the purpose of clarification and to guide the public, we wish to state categorically that:

"Whereas, as Resource Persons, we were employed by the Agency pursuant to the extant law of the Akwa Ibom Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency Law Cap 47 of 2000.

"Whereas, we are the only known and recognized Resource Persons that interface between the Agency and our workers.

"Whereas, as contained in our various letters of appointment, the date of appointment and termination were clearly stated in our appointment letters which had since elapsed.

"Whereas, the claims of employing and sacking 5,000 road sweepers and evacuators by the Agency is totally false and shows a gross ignorance on the part of these peddlers of falsehood.

"Whereas, a critical analysis of the publication reveals a deliberate and unsuccessful attempt to weave falsehood and emotions to attract public sympathy, cause disaffection and embarrass the state government.

"Whereas, the signatories to the ill-motivated publication from our records do not exist at any level of the Forum and therefore, such publication should be totally disregarded.

"Whereas, we call on our workers to exercise patience as the Agency has finalized preparations to appoint Resource Persons for resumption of normal activities.

"Whereas, the leadership and members of this Forum completely disassociate themselves from the said publication and call on relevant agencies of government to investigate the source and sponsors of this blackmail and bring the perpetrators out to face the consequences of their ill-motivated actions.

"Whereas, we restate our commitment to work with the Agency toward sustaining the state's record as the cleanest state in Nigeria and achieving the ARISE Agenda in respect to environmental sustainability in the state.

"Whereas, we commend our dear Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno for his leadership style that has redefined governance in the state. The ongoing infrastructural and other strategic sectoral development across the state have given a new lease of life to Akwa Ibom people.

"Whereas, we pledge our unalloyed loyalty to the Governor and reassure him of our commitment to support all his laudable programmes for the benefits of our people.

"Whereas, we pass a vote of confidence on the Chairman of the Agency, Obong Prince Akpan Ikim and his team for their effort to sustain the tempo of keeping our environment clean."

Investment / What Gov. Umo Eno's Partnership With China Means For Akwa Ibom Economy [part 1] by Assamjnr: 10:32am On Mar 08
Henshaw NYONG

Governor Umo Eno's recent discussions with the Chinese Ambassador, Cui Jianchun, go beyond typical political chatter or attention-seeking antics; instead, this partnership deal is indeed a game-changer for Akwa Ibom's economy.

Truly, a new dawn is breaking in our state as Governor Umo Eno takes bold steps to ensure a better future for Akwa Ibom. His partnership with China, an economic powerhouse, isn't just a milestone; it is a significant move towards prosperity, unlike anything seen before on the entire African continent.

As the second-largest economy globally, China presents vast opportunities for our state. Governor Eno's steadfast resolve to secure advantageous trade privileges with these global leaders demonstrates his dedication to reshaping our economic outlook. This collaboration transcends mere figures; it's about improving lives and lifting over 7 million Akwa Ibomites out of poverty.

It's worth stressing that China boasts the world's second-largest economy, valued at $17.9 trillion in 2022, just behind the United States with $25.4 trillion. But when we consider purchasing power, China surpasses the United States, with $30.3 trillion compared to America's $25.4 trillion. This shows China's strong economic standing. Pastor Umo Eno, being a successful entrepreneur, understands the significance of such partnership and collaborations to boost Akwa Ibom's economy, especially given Nigeria's tough economic situation. Indeed, by working with China, our Governor will further achieve the objectives of his ARISE Agenda, and why not, lead Akwa Ibom towards similar economic success.

Now, let's see how this strategic partnership with China will bring benefits for the common man in our rural areas and hinterlands; Eastern Obolo, Mbo, Ini, Ika and the entire Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom and what it means for our economy:

1. Local Farmers:

In every village in Akwa Ibom, we have local farmers who play a crucial role in our economy. Through this partnership with China, the agricultural sector in our state will surely receive a significant boost. This collaboration with China will provide our local farmers with access to advanced technology and expertise, enabling them to improve productivity, increase yields, and secure their livelihoods.

Similar to how China has supported its own farmers, Akwa Ibom people can expect access to modern farming equipment, training programmes, and market opportunities. This partnership which is coming at the right time, will empower our farmers to thrive in a competitive market, particularly amidst the current economic challenges facing our country.

2. Small Businesses:

In almost every home in Akwa Ibom, there exists a small business. Governor Umo Eno's collaboration with China offers a lifeline for these enterprises. Small businesses in Akwa Ibom stand to benefit greatly from this partnership. As the Governor focuses on the people's welfare in line with his ARISE agenda, his ties with the world's second-largest economy will provide every family in Akwa Ibom engaged in small businesses with access to international markets, funding support, and business training programmes. This collaboration will also provide an opportunity for small businesses owned by our brothers and sisters to expand and compete on a global scale. So, in practical terms, this partnership will empower our small businesses to innovate, grow, and contribute to the economic vibrancy of Akwa Ibom, bringing us closer to the level of success seen in China.

The Association, a coalition of sixteen private waste management companies in Akwa Ibom, led by the erudite scholar, Elder Tpl. Ime Ukpe, Ph.D., declared their stance on Thursday during a courtesy call on the AKSEPWMA chief, Deacon (Dr) Prince Ikim, at his office in Itam.

Politics / Enoidem Refutes Allegations Of PDP State Chairmanship As "Evil Misinformation" by Assamjnr: 5:57pm On Mar 06
Written by Henshaw NYONG, Uyo.

Posted by Iky Assam Jnr, Lagos

The immediate-past National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Emmanuel Enoidem SAN, has strongly rebuffed recent claims circulating on various social media platforms suggesting his interest in vying for the position of State Chairman of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State.

In a rebuttal issued on Wednesday, the longest-serving NLA dismissed the allegations as "evil misinformation, spurious and baseless hogwash."

The rebuttal, which was signed by Enoidem's attorney, Thompson Thompson, Esq., emphasized the urgency of setting the record straight to prevent the spread of misleading information to the unsuspecting public.

"It read: The attention of Emmanuel Enoidem SAN, has been drawn to a poorly written commentary, posted on TheSensor Newspaper closed WhatsApp group and other sundry platforms, purporting that the learned silk is aspiring to vie for the office of State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State. Nothing could be further from the truth.

"Ordinarily, the learned silk would not have bothered to respond, in order not to give life to the spurious and baseless hogwash, in view of the quarters where it is coming from, given their predisposition to peddling utter falsehood and wild concoctions about persons, who refuse to prune their character to pygmy levels like theirs, for a bowl of transient power. Of course, their disposition to dishonesty, double-speak, avarice, anarchy, subterfuge and power mongering are well known.

"Barrister Enoidem however feels the urgent need to set the records straight, in order to save the unsuspecting public from being misled by the evil misinformation of the planters of the fiction whose agenda is to sow discord:

1. Emmanuel Enoidem (SAN) is by the special grace of God, the immediate past National Legal Adviser (NLA) of the largest political party in Africa, the PDP.

2. He was the longest serving NLA of PDP to date, since the party’s founding in 1998.

3. As a result of the position that he occupied, all legal matters affecting the party, its organs, its personnel and interests in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT were under his direction.

4. Being the man of strong principles therefore, Barrister Enoidem (SAN) could not possibly aspire to vie for the office of State Chairman of the same party in 2024, after serving at the National Office and leaving same with accolades and distinction, no matter the desperation.

5. Indeed, Barrister Enoidem (SAN) is more known for his stubborn insistence on transitioning from one low rung of the ladder to a higher pedestal throughout his political and life’s journeys.

6. Unlike the paymasters of the fiction writer who do anything to cling to power no matter how lowly or ridiculous, Barrister Enoidem has a steady character which abhors running a falling graph.

7. Barrister Enoidem has never discussed nor considered the possibility of aspiring to any office of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State now or in the future.

8. As a lifetime dedicated and devoted member of PDP, Barrister Enoidem (SAN) will continue to do all it takes to support the party and its structures to survive, thrive and spread the dividends of democracy to all nooks and crannies of Akwa Ibom State and the rest of Nigeria, devoid of selfish plots and self-serving shenanigans. He works tirelessly behind the curtains to give support to elected representatives of the party at all levels, including the Executive Governor of our dear State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, the leader of the party in the State.

"Lastly, Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem (SAN) is an extremely principled, disciplined and self-contented man who does not allow his personal ambitions to disrupt established culture, acceptable traditions and hallowed doctrine of our great party, and the human society. It bears repeating that the senatorial district which shall produce the next State Chairman of PDP has never been in doubt.

"Therefore, there has never been a contemplation, discussion or consideration of any ambition to vie for any office of the party by Enoidem. If anything, Enoidem remains the bastion of faith and hope in the redemptive powers of the PDP, above the calamitous rampage of the ruling APC and its numerous sidekicks which have rendered Nigeria comatose these past years.

"Enoidem will team up with other like-minded citizens to bring an end to the disastrous APC era in our country and foist a new and brighter future of love, wealth, togetherness, growth and development in our country. No amount of concoctions and fear by the jittery opposition, will stop him."

Politics / Obong Uko Umoh: Leading Etinan To The Eldorado by Assamjnr: 1:49pm On Mar 06
Written by Comrade Essien Henshaw

Posted by Iky ASSAM Jnr., Lagos

It was former First Lady of the United States, Eleanor Rosalynn Carter, who famously said, ‘A leader takes people where they want to go. A GREAT leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be.’ Indeed, the sentiments expressed by the wife of former President Jimmy Carter strike a chord with the leadership style of Obong (Hon.) Uko Umoh, the Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State.

Since assuming office just three months ago (in December 2023), this former Newspaper Publisher turned politician, famously known as ‘Uko Biafra‘ among close friends and political associates, has begun reshaping grassroots leadership, sparking positive change, and attracting commendations and eulogies across political party lines in all the 12 wards of Etinan.

One of the hallmark initiatives of his tenure thus far is his unwavering commitment to tackling unemployment among the youth of Etinan. Recognizing the pressing need for job opportunities, Hon. Umoh has embarked on a proactive job hunt in federal establishments in Abuja, the Nation’s capital, specifically for the Iman Ibom people who are currently unemployed.

In a recent meeting with the Special Assistant to the Minister of Interior on Communication and Strategy, Engr Uwakmfon Michael, himself an Iman Ibom son, Hon. Umoh passionately expressed his vision for human capacity development and employment for sons and daughters of Etinan. He emphasized the importance of providing opportunities for all deserving indigenes, irrespective of their family background, religion, or political affiliations.

Obong Umoh was quoted as saying, “I do not have anybody in mind; all I know is that any Etinan person who merits an opportunity should be given a chance.”

Central to his strategy is the establishment of registration points where graduates from Etinan local government can submit their qualifications and areas of specialization. This initiative will create a comprehensive database of unemployed youths, allowing Hon. Umoh to easily connect them with employment opportunities at both state and federal levels.

Engr Uwakmfon Michael, the SA to the Hon. Minister, was reported to have expressed his delight at the proactive measures taken by his Chairman and pledged full support in ensuring that qualified indigenes of their local government area are given priority in any job opportunities within the ministry.

Indeed, Hon. Umoh’s commitment to alleviating poverty and empowering Iman Ibom extends beyond job creation. He has taken concrete steps by launching a committee to address the challenges posed by abandoned government structures including electric transformers, public water and other amenities within the local government area, demonstrating a holistic approach to grassroots development. It seems that Uko Biafra is closely following in the footsteps of Governor Umo Eno, who is on the verge of establishing the State’s Infrastructure and Assets Management Agency to repair and maintain all government-owned buildings, roads, equipment, and land.

In just three months in office, Obong Uko Umoh has proven beyond words that he was ready for service. He has connected the Local Government Council Secretariat to the national grid, which was facing blackout for over a decade, initiated road grading across the 64 gazetted villages in Etinan, made massive investments in education, agriculture, and sports. What’s more, he has been incredibly accessible to his people, even at odd hours, mingling with them and demystifying the office of chairman.

In view of the above and more, many stakeholders, including the supervisors in the local government, have unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Hon. Uko Umoh for changing the narrative of grassroots leadership in Etinan. They express their determination to work with him to support the ARISE agenda of Governor Umo Eno.

In the words of John C. Maxwell, ‘Good leaders know the way, go the way, and show the way.’ Obong (Hon.) Uko Umoh exemplifies this sentiment, embodying the transformative power of servant leadership and dedicating himself wholeheartedly to the betterment of Iman Ibom. In just 3 months, Etinan is not just witnessing change; it is on the path to Eldorado, embracing a future filled with promise and opportunity under a servant leader who is leading the way to prosperity and progress.

Politics / Food Subsidy Initiative: Gov. Umo Eno's Altruistic Leadership In Action by Assamjnr: 8:05pm On Mar 04
Henshaw NYONG.

A famous philosopher and expert in management, Robert K. Greenleaf, once said, 'Good leaders must first become good servants.' In today's Nigeria, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno represents this idea. This Cleric-turned Politician is the type of leader Greenleaf talked about because his actions, projects, and programmes since assuming office have shown that he is a rare leader that is eager to serve the people of Akwa Ibom and cares about their well-being.

It is disheartening to note that since the government at the centre announced the removal of fuel subsidies, the country has faced significant economic challenge. This decision has exacerbated the situation, leading to skyrocketing prices of goods and commodities, resulting in unprecedented levels of hardship not experienced or heard of since Nigeria's independence. In fact, across the entire nation, families are grappling with the inability to afford basic necessities including food, with many unable to even afford one meal a day.

Akwa Ibom State is not exempt from these hardships. I am aware of a family with five children who are rationing their meals. If three eat today, the remaining two must wait until tomorrow and make do with only water to survive. As I said, this situation is not unique to my state; it is prevalent across Nigeria as we speak.

Eureka! In the midst of this dire situation, Governor Umo Eno's announcement of the proposed Akwa Ibom State Bulk Purchase Agency offers a glimmer of relief and hope for the impoverished in the State. Of course, the timing could not be more opportune, as this laudable initiative aims to provide essential food items to the most vulnerable segments of Akwa Ibom's population at subsidized rates. More over, with the Agency situated within the Governor's Office, under Governor Umo Eno's direct oversight, there is a sense of confidence that this commendable programme will be effectively managed and executed.

It is important to stress that while some Governors in other States merely talk about solving the problems of their people, Pastor Umo Eno is actively taking steps to help the people of Akwa Ibom, particularly during these challenging times. The details outlining how the food subsidy programme in Akwa Ibom will operate divulge Governor Umo Eno's genuine concern for the welfare of Akwa Ibomites, especially those who are impoverished.

During the first Sunday service in March at All Nations Christian Ministry International, where he worshipped with his wife, Deaconess Patience Eno, and several state functionaries, the Governor shared an uplifting news. He informed how his administration has finalized plans to utilize the State Government's Social Register to distribute food vouchers; making sure that the assistance reaches those most in need while preventing misuse of the programme.

The Governor therefore warned mischief makers, to desist from attempting to thwart government's good intention to stabilize the cost of staple food in the state, announcing that, anyone caught, would face the full weight of the law.

However, I believe that the success of this very laudable initiative hinges on collective effort and support from all stakeholders, especially the wealthy in the State. It is imperative that all hands must be on deck to safeguard the integrity of the food subsidy initiative and prevent any attempts to thwart the Governor's well-intentioned efforts. In doing so, we would not only support Governor Umo Eno's altruistic leadership, but also contribute to the realization of his broader vision for Akwa Ibom as encapsulated in his ARISE Agenda.

Therefore, as we eagerly anticipate this relief which will definitely reach all the nooks and crannies of Akwa Ibom, let us all stand behind this rare leader who is akin to a blessing from God during such challenging times. Yes, it is crystal clear that Governor Umo Eno is devoted to serving Akwa Ibom, and serving with integrity, compassion, and unwavering dedication.

Nwawe Cleared of Alleged N22 Million Extortion: Lawyer Refutes Sahara Reporter's False Claims

Posted by Iky Assam Jnr, Lagos

In a recent development concerning the alleged N22 million extortion case, which took place in 2021, human rights lawyer Adebola Odunyemi has strongly rebutted the erroneous claims propagated by Sahara Reporters. Odunyemi emphasized that Cordelia Nwawe, one of the accused police officers, was never implicated in the purported crime.

Sahara Reporters had published a misleading story implicating Officer Nwawe and two other officers in the extortion scandal, which allegedly occurred on the Ikoyi/Ajah Expressway in Lagos.

However, Odunyemi, representing the complainants in the case, clarified that thorough investigations had exonerated Officer Nwawe of any direct involvement in the incident.

He emphasized that the petitions regarding the alleged extortion were withdrawn long ago, and subsequent inquiries revealed Officer Nwawe's innocence.

Addressing the erroneous publication by Sahara Reporters, Odunyemi stressed the importance of accurate reporting, stating, "We urge the general public to disregard whatever publication indicting the officers as we were not contacted by anybody to get the true picture of what transpired before such malicious report was posted."

He further highlighted the need for responsible journalism and urged media outlets to verify facts before disseminating information to the public.

In light of these revelations, it is evident that Officer Nwawe has been wrongly accused, and the matter has been resolved amicably. Odunyemi concluded by encouraging those with grievances against the officers to seek resolution through appropriate channels rather than relying on false narratives.

Politics / 13 Poor Landlords In Itu Now Homeless After “illegal” Demolition By The Edidems by Assamjnr: 8:03am On Feb 18
The landlords built on our land - AKHA Deputy Speaker replies

Edidem's Family Not Owners of the Land - Chairman, Village Head Rep

No fewer than thirteen (13) landlords in an interior part of Ntak Inyang called Ekpene Ekpe in Itu Local Government Area woke up on the morning of Friday, 16th February 2024, and like any other day, headed to school and their places of business. However, by the evening of that day, they had become homeless, their belongings in the wind as their houses were completely demolished, throwing several families into confusion, mourning, and abject sorrow.

Clutching his daughter and fighting back tears, one of the affected homeowners, Mr. Donald Esin told newsmen, "I want to believe I'm dreaming and I would soon wake up from this bad dream. Just imagine the work I have done for more than 9 years since 2014, and all my life earnings I used in building this house are gone, and I am back to square one. I don't know where to start."

Continuing, he said: “It's very pathetic; people rejoiced with me when I was moving into my own house just months ago; suddenly I'm homeless. This is beyond sad; this is an act of injustice. I bought this land lawfully with the consent of the Village Head and other prominent leaders here, and this place is not under any high tension cable, neither on the government right of way, so I don't know why someone would come and demolish what I laboured for. Again, there was no notice whatsoever; I was called while doing my Business that my house was being brought down by some youths who dressed in black shirts and trousers with cutlasses.

"The people who sold this land to us are as surprised as us at this turn of events. We were told that the people responsible for this heinous act are members of Edidem's family. After they were voted into power, this is the thank you we receive."

Another landlord, NseyenAbasi Esitmbom told newsmen that those who came for the demolition dressed in black with cutlasses while some were completely masked.

Our reporter gathered that residents who were home and came out and threatened to go naked; their houses were spared. Some who gave money to those who did the "illegal" demolition, their houses never got demolished too. Some homeowners were brutalized, and they even threatened to kill them as they tried to question the demolition.

Another homeowner, Isaiah Akpan told newsmen: "They didn't allow us to record the injustice with our phones, nor did they allow us to take anything from our houses. I am completely finished," she said.

Another homeowner, Martha Edet, narrated how she learned of the painful incidence. "I was on my way to work and I was called to come back, that my house was being demolished by over 50 youths who came with a bulldozer, and I took a tricycle and rushed home only to meet my house demolished.

One of the landlords, Columbus Adasi, told reporters that he bought the land as far back as 2013 after carrying out investigations in the Village, and there was no information of his land being in contention with anyone, adding that there was no pending court case, and that their lands were legitimate property, questioning what their offense was that the family of Hon. Kufreabasi Edidem would appear after more than a decade and demolish over 13 houses without any notice.

“There was no court order, no notice served, nothing. Why is one family trying to frustrate us this much in this economy when a bag of cement is now N12,000? I took a loan to build this house, and look at me today, I suffered to buy and build, what did I do to this government?" he asked rhetorically and in tears.

Adasi who could not hold back tears asked the Akwa Ibom state government to come to their aid.

“I am appealing to our dear Governor, who is an ordained man of God, to please set up a committee to investigate this devilish act and please correct this injustice and demand that the people behind this wickedness to cause to pay for this.”

Speaking from his sick bed, one Victor, another resident, said he hasn't regained himself since that day. According to him, he slumped immediately he saw his house completely brought down, and he woke up in a hospital 11 hours later.

Those who sold the land insisted that the land belongs to them and has never been involved in any form of contention, and they sold it legally to the residents, and there were no squatters on the land. They said the land is free from government acquisition, and they had never had any problem with either land grabbers or the government and were very surprised and disturbed at the turn of events.

Our reporter gathered that some of the homeowners have survey plan, the land agreement and the certificate of authority to build there.

The people alleged that they have received information that arrangements are in top gear to remove the debris of the illegal demolition in order to conceal the act. They insisted that the land was not under any known government acquisition, no court judgment was obtained against them, and the demolition was not a result of any levying of execution of court judgment.

Visit To The Village Head of Ntak Inyang:

Our reporter visited the palace of the Village Head of Ntak Inyang, Chief (Elder) Valentine Effiong Odung, who stated unequivocally that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are from Atai Ibiaku Itam.

Eteidung Odung said he was informed that The Edidem family in Atai Ibiaku Itam came to his village to demolish the people's houses.

Asked if he had any pre-notice or information before it was done, the Village Head said he did not.

He regretted that “Some Institutions in the Country don't work anymore; these days anyone can do anything and go scot-free. I'm afraid it can even happen to me by these men who are in power.”

The Village Head, who said that information had that the Edidem’s family came with the Court order to court the houses, said he did not see the Court order.

On the real owners of the land, the Village Head insisted that his forbears never sold any parcel of land outrightly during those years to anybody except by land pledge and wondered why the dastardly act occurred.

Visit to the Ikot Obio Atai Community:

When a team of Newsmen arrived at the Community, they met with Chairman of Ikot Obio Atai Itam Village; Elder Nsikak Etim Edem, who is also acting as the Village Head after the demise of their leader.

Elder Edem told a team of journalists that he was shocked and had pitied the homeowners after hearing the news of the demolish.

“When I asked who was behind the havoc, I was told Rt. Hon. Edidem and his brothers came with a bulldozer with a court order to demolish, that is what I heard."

Reflecting on the history of land ownership in Ekpene Ekpe, the Chairman recounted how his mother explained that in past years, individuals used to contribute their land to cooperatives for planting palm fruits.

He mentioned that during that era, he became aware that Okon Kpeti and Edidem utilized the cooperative land for palm fruit cultivation.

“However, after some time, when the palm fruit business ceased, those who had originally owned their lands and contributed them to the cooperative reclaimed their land and resumed farming, as it rightfully belonged to them,” he explained.

The representative of the Village Head informed reporters that several years ago, he became aware of a legal dispute involving Edidem's family and a person named Michael, who had occupied a small portion of land. After winning the case, only that specific area was awarded to Udo Edidem, not the entire area that they subsequently demolished.

When asked if he was aware that the land where people's houses were demolished belonged to the family of the Itu Assemblyman, he responded: “There's no place where they demolished that they can definitively claim their father owned the land or purchased it. I challenge them to provide evidence that their father owned or acquired the land. If they assert that their father owned the land, they should identify who owns the nearby lands surrounding them.

“One can only acquire land through inheritance, as a gift, or by purchasing it. I urge them to disclose how they obtained the land they proceeded to demolish people's properties on, especially in this challenging economy where a bag of cement costs almost N13,000.”

Hon. Kufreabasi Edidem speaks:

However, in order to provide a balanced perspective, the member representing Itu State Constituency and also serving as the Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Kufreabasi Edidem, was contacted via mobile phone. He informed the reporter that among the 21 male children in his family, he is the 20th. Furthermore, he acknowledged that his family indeed demolished the houses following the acquisition of a court order (he did not specify the court's name).

In the exact words of Hon. Edidem: “Over six person (sic) have call (sic)... I'm answering you because I know you, so that if i hear (sic) any misleading publication I know it's from you…because I know what journalists do."

When pressed by the caller to retract his statement implying that journalists engage in blackmail, the lawmaker stood firm in his stance. He later asserted that his family simply adhered to a court order, contending that the individuals had constructed their buildings on land belonging to his family.

But, the Itu lawmaker later said: “If I tell you the truth that I was not even aware that that demolishing is going to be done.”

The UCCDA Chairman speaks:

The Chairman of the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), Hon. Anietie Eka, informed a reporter that the reprehensible action was not conducted by his office.

"I've only just become aware of this information. Our office has not initiated any demolition, and I am not informed about the incident," Eka stated during a phone conversation.

Proper Procedure for Demolition:

Meanwhile, a lecturer in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at a university emphasized that before any demolition takes place in the state, it is essential to serve at least four distinct notices at various times and intervals. These notices comprise a contravention notice, a stop-work notice, a quit notice, and finally, the demolition notice.

He further revealed that a specific deadline for response is mandatory. However, Hon. Edidem did not confirm whether his family members followed these procedures before displacing the impoverished landlords of Ekpene Ekpe and exposing them to the danger of potential snake bites, as one family recounted nearly experiencing.

Crime / Remains Of A Beheaded Woman Found In Anua, Uyo, Not Ekpri Nsukara Offot- Monarch by Assamjnr: 7:47am On Jan 31
Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr.

The Village Head of Ekpri Nsukara Offot in Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Eteidung Emem Denis Asikpo has clarified that the remains of a beheaded woman with missing parts reported few days ago, was found in a neighbouring village and not Ekpri Nsukara Offot.

Eteidung Asikpo made the clarification shortly after a crucial meeting of Ekpri Nsukara Offot Village Council held at his Palace on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.

While debunking the news report which allegedly mentioned Ekpri Nsukara Offot as the scene of the crime, Eteidung Asikpo advised newsmen and social media influencers to always crosscheck and be sure of locations of incidents before going public with their stories.

"It is quite unfortunate that a woman lost her life in the hands of unknown murderers. As was reported, her remains were found without her head and other vital parts of her body. This is heinous and condemnable.

"We are however piqued that most reports on the sad incident mentioned Ekpri Nsukara Offot as where her remains were found. This is not correct. The exact location where her remains were found was the refuse dump by the fence of the Holy Child Convent School, Anua, Uyo, which is a neighbouring community
," he said.

Eteidung Asikpo said refuting the news report has become necessary following numerous calls he and members of Ekpri Nsukara Offot Village Council have received on the sad and pathetic incident.

He acknowledged that the Police and other security agencies have since swung into action to unmask the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

According to him, Ekpri Nsukara Offot Village had since last year, September 2023 set in motion various measures to curb crimes, which include the restriction on the hours of operation of motorcyclists from 9pm to 6am, which is still in force.

"We don't like this reference to Ekpri Nsukara each crime occurs along Nwaniba Road. It tends to portray our community in bad light. We're peace loving and one of most organized villages in the State.

"As a security conscious community, we have initiated several measures to curb crime and restiveness. Part of these, was the introduction and enforcement of restrictions on the hours of operation of motorcyclists in the community from 9pm to 6am since September 2023," he explained.

Culture / Edeobom, Afaha Abia, Ikot Obio Asanga - Ikot Ekang Roads Now Death Trap by Assamjnr: 6:10pm On Jan 23
...Village Heads, Residents Cry For Help

Posted by Ubong ASSAM Jnr.

The once-functional link road spanning Edeobom, Afaha Abia, Ikot Obio Asanga, Ikot Odiong, and Ikot Ekang in Nsit Ibom and Etinan Local Government Areas, apart from dangerously worsening, is now akin to a death trap, this paper can reliably inform.

This over 5km road, which connects rural agrarian communities in Nsit Ibom to Ikot Ekang in Etinan Local Government Area, according to our reporter, suffer from abandonment and neglect, resulting in severe setbacks for economic and social activities of inhabitants of the area.

To worsen the issue for these rural dwellers, the ancient bridge connecting Ikot Odiong and Ikot Ekang, crossing Nsit Ibom and Etinan Local Government Areas, has become a hazardous obstacle, negatively affecting farming and all economic pursuits between the two Local Government Areas.

When a team of journalists and netizens visited the area on an on-the-spot assessment last Friday, our reporter who was part of the team witnessed the dire condition of these roads, the untold hardship, and excruciating pains it has caused residents and the road users.

Speaking with the Village Head of Afaha Abia, Eteidung Monday Johnny Ekpo, at his palace, the monarch, in an emotion-laden tone, lamented the absence of a reliable access road to the community.

He regretted that the deplorable state of this road not only deprived residents of his community of convenience in commuting from one village to the other especially at critical moments and emergency situations, but also hampers their ability to engage in businesses sustaining their families.

While acknowledging that indigenes of the affected areas have been campaigning, supporting, and voting en masse for the ruling party in the State, PDP, since 1999, the Village Head appealed to the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, whom he referred to as "a caring and listening leader" for compassionate intervention, urging for the construction of the link road to revitalize beleaguered communities in the area.
