The All Progressives Congress has won all 17 chairmanship seats contested for in the Yobe local government elections. Announcing the results on Sunday in Damaturu, Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Jauro, said APC secured 999,700 of the 1.2 milion votes cast during Saturday’s elections. He said the party also won the entire councillorship seats contested for. The chairman said the electoral body did not receive any complaints from any quarters on the conduct of the elections. “The successful conduct of the polls is a proof that peace has returned to the state,” Jauro said. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that there had been fears that the poor security situation in the state, following insurgents’ activities, would affect the polls’ conduct. However, the spokesman of the Military Joint Task Force in the state, Capt. Eli Lazarus, told NAN that the force had not received any report of security breach during the polls. NAN reports that 10 political parties participated in the elections, with the main opposition party in the state, the PDP, boycotting the polls. The party had cited the security situation as its reason for not taking part in the elections. http://www.punchng.com/news/apc-sweeps-yobe-lg-council-poll |
Looking at all the changes across the country, mostly in the last 3years. One wonders why people are still crying corruption. What happened to all this monies before now. |
luvmijeje: Then who is in charge? If I'm Jonathan, my next course of action will be in Ota farm in order to prostrate and ask baba for forgiveness.Thank God you are not Jonathan . |
Another series lies. Not only cow,how about the 20 camels. ![]() |
Before privatization, power in Warri was 18-20hrs, nothing has really changed. Just some days you have 24hrs now. |
Uchiha Madara: I am having mixed feelings about this thread. On one hand, I have seen some nice pics of good roads, but on the other hand, we are still talking about roads. Gradual Transformation Of Nigerian Infrastructure; Focus On Roads |
tobex_23: I knew you were bittered, but never knew you were this bittered to the extent of not understanding simple english!!! You were also paid abi, so all ur argument have been penned down! DullardRule number one for me on NL, is staying away from children. Have a good night kid. |
tobex_23: Worry not! I noe a little about you..He wanted to spill it away but she said he should stick it in and that's how we came about you. You were so watery and looked bittered even at that stage of your life! Can someone translate please. |
jmaine: I tuale for the guy. Na real 419 him be . . .That is the problem with most of them. They are just angry and hateful, when you ask them why, they don't know. |
tobex_23: This imbe*cile snapped a picture and he wants people to bliv that shit!!! I said passed there today....I left osun 7am and got to lagos 10pm..WHYYou are the worst liar on this thread. Maybe you were trekking from Osun. |
KIRIJI: So because obasanjo and yar'adua didnt do anything about the road, Gej should also do likewise? Is this the transformation he promised us? So Gej's achievement should be measured based on what past administrations did and did not do?Why not tell us your standard of measurement? |
Sincere 9gerian: That is the opinion of an ordinary Tinubu goat. Before GEJ came to power, a certain OBJ and Yar Adua ruled for 11 years? What did they do about the road? You forget already, the roads were all 8 lanes tarred expressway, no potholes, between Lagos and Ibadan was a 30mins drive. Between Lagos and Benin was a 3 hrs drive. Then came GEJ and he asked JB to bulldoze all the roads. Again, don't take this children of anger serious. |
If Jonathan is on the ticket come 2015. Victory is a forgone conclusion. That is the price for one Nigeria. The only way to reverse this from happening, is keeping the PDP ticket from him. The Power brokers in the North and the South know this to be true. Jonah's battle is more within the PDP than against anybody in a general election. The rent collectors in Nigeria WILL never do anything to rock the boat. |
36STATES: If any of you writing these things here had lost money in the stock market crash of 2008 you would have known that Soludo was a disaster. Solude is a big time crook and doesn't have the qualification and the uprightness to run a sensitive institution like CBN. Sanusi is the best thing that happened to the central bank ever. Though a lot of corruption is still going on there, but that is a discussion for another day. Soludo was 100% aware of all the thieving happening in the banks by people like Mrs Ibru of Oceanic, Erastus Akingbole of GTB etc. OBJ, Soludo and Ndi Onyiuke was real axis of evil for investors in Nigeria when they were heading there respective offices. From the comment you made, you were a wrong investor for the market. What did your savior Sanusi accomplish for the banking sector and the stock market? |
Sincere 9gerian: GEJ like all humans is not perfect. He has his flaws. If you have decided to focus only on those flaws, then goodluck to you. But if we use the same strict parameters that you used to write off GEJ, then no one will be good enough to be president of Nigeria. That is the history of the children of anger and hate. They wonder why nobody takes them serious. |
ndu_chucks: This action is not enough to ward off the impending doom of this presidency. I like dreamers. |
ajoskele: Major General Ajoskele, the former Director Nigerian Army Snipers' Training School is now the GOC, Sango-Ota Army Barracks..Lord, see me through!so what? |
Akinmail: I swear your brain is a joke of a brain! Hian you said soludo's crisis was exaggerated. Tell that to all the people that lost substantial amounts holding shares of those banks. Nonsense soludo was good sanusi was good too.Who was responsible for those loses?? Soludo or Sanusi? As far i'm concern, the person that screamed fire in the market is responsible. Soludo did not bury the confidence of the Nigerian stock market and our financial sector. Sanusi was the one that called everybody a thief, only to leave the industry in worst shape than he met it. No amount of fake awards and noise will change this fact. |

The CBN chairman must be a proven intellectual. Elumelu does not qualify. If I had my way, I will simply return Soludo to office. No more fake bankers, please appoint someone that understands, long term policy implications. Sanusi was a mistake to this country and the industry. |

FORMER president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, was, on Thursday, cautioned by South-South leaders, chiefs, elders and stakeholders to stop harassing, intimidating, stampeding or blackmailing President Goodluck Jonathan. Obasanjo had recently accused President Jonathan of sundry issues, including training of assassins to eliminate political opponents. Rising from its meeting in Abuja, the South-South leaders, chiefs, elders and stakeholders told Obasanjo that Nigerians could not breath through his nose, adding that they supported him when he was the president. Speaking though their spokesperson and chief coordinator in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Bello Premier, the group condemned Obasanjo’s letter to Jonathan, describing it as doom and false alarm. “General Obasanjo is only shouting wolve when there is none at sight. The letter is full of premeditated ideas geared towards undermining the integrity of the South-South people and intended to keep them perpetually as minority in the political scheme of Nigeria as a nation,” it said. The group added that people of the South-South would resist any attempt to make them second class citizen in their country, adding that “there is no way one man (Obasanjo) would want the entire country (Nigeria) to breath through his nose.” It alleged that since his (Obasanjo) bid to foist Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido and Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, on Nigeria as president and vice president respectively had failed, he had restorted to ploys to distabilise Jonathan-led government. “Only Obasanjo can explain the reason he decided to embark on his failed mission. The entire South-South people are looking at his face. “If he had his constitutional right to stand for an election to vote and be voted for, same goes for Dr Jonathan, who is a bonafide Nigeria from the South-South. The right of offer or refusal to contest in 2015 solely rest with Jonathan alone. “He must not be intimidated, harassed, stampeded or blackmailed to surrender power against the collective will of the good people of South-South and Nigeria, who in 2011 gave him their mandate,” it said. The group added that the developmental stride, as witnessed in this current administration of Jonathan, had never happened before in the history of Nigeria, despite the enormous challenges of both human and natural hiccups. The group said the Jonathan-led administration had made in-road in the power, telecommunications, agricultural, sport, education, health, defence, highways, aviation, waterways and other sectors. http://www.tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/news/news-headlines/item/29426-s-south-leaders-to-obj-stop-intimi |

Meanwhile, the presidency has ordered a round-the-clock surveillance of all major installations across the country as part of security arrangements put in place to ensure a continuation of the peace enjoyed during the Christmas celebrations. Already, the Nigerian Army has suspended all passes and annual leave of its officers and men until after the New Year festivities. It was reliably gathered that a signal from military authorities to all General Officers Commanding (GOCs) and corps commanders ordered that all annual leave and passes be put on hold and all officers and men on leave be recalled with immediate effect. The directive, it was gathered, was part of security measures put in place during the festive period to be fully battle-ready to combat any threat to public peace. The Nigeria Police High Command has also deployed all the strike forces, specialised units of the force, including the Police Mobile Force (MOPOL), Counter-Terrorism Unit, Special Protection Unit, Federal Highway Patrol and Explosive Ordinance Department to join forces with the conventional police force in providing water-tight security throughout the country during the festivities. In continuation of its effort to ensure a hitch-free New Year celebration, Inspector General of Police, M.D. Abubakar, rolled out the directives at the end of a meeting with other members of the police management team on Friday, where he reassured Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, that massive security measures had been put in place to ensure a hitch-free celebration nationwide. Informed security sources also told Saturday Tribune on Friday that while the security cordon in the North-East remained water-tight, government had equally ordered security operatives across the country to be vigilant and “take preemptive measures.” According to the source, flash points in all volatile parts of the country will continue to be raided by operatives to preempt any undesirable occurrences while suspects are being picked up. “These suspects will remain in custody till the end of the Yuletide. They will all go through security screening while innocent ones among them will be set free as soon as this critical period is over,” the source disclosed. The source added that some women and children abducted by terrorists who attacked an army barracks in Bama, Borno State, last week had been rescued by security forces who also made several arrests. http://www.tribune.com.ng/ |
Fresh violence broke out among the people of Oba- Ile and Oba-Oke in Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State on Friday. There were counter claims about how the fresh trouble started but a source within Oba-Oke told our correspondent on the telephone that some youths in Oba-Ile invaded Oba-Oke and beat up some people. This was said to have angered the people of Oba-Oke who mobilised and stormed Oba-Ile for revenge. But Oba-Ile residents claimed that the people of Oba-Oke started the trouble. The disagreement, it was learnt led to a fierce fight where weapons were freely used by both sides. Scores of residents from both sides were said to have been injured in the ensuing melee. A resident, who fled the scene, told our correspondent that policemen had been deployed to the two communities to bring the situation under control. It was not immediately known if there was any loss of life in the clash but some residents of the two towns expressed apprehension on the conditions of some of those injured. The Police Public Relations Officer, Osun Command, Folasade Odoro, confirmed the fresh clash to our correspondent on the telephone. She, however, added that the situation had been brought under control. The PPRO said, “The command has been able to restore normalcy in the area and investigation is ongoing.” It will be recalled that the residents of the two neighbouring communities had engaged in a bloody clash in October. The October clash which led to the destruction of many houses in the area led to the the burning of the palace of the Oloba of Oba-Oke, Oba Dahunsi Iyiola. Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, had imposed a curfew from 6pm to 6am on the two communities at the time. The new Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 11, Mr. David Omojola, visited the two communities in November on resumption of duty and held meetings with the traditional rulers of the two communities. The monarchs assured the AIG who was in company with the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mrs. Dorothy Gimba, that they would allow peace to reign. http://www.punchng.com/ |
No state in the SS has any deficit. You can site whatever numbers you want. We have enough resources to run N1T wage bill |
Pukkah: I support resource control but oil as an extractive resource does not really indicate hardwork and ingenuity. Revenue from such activities should be used to fund capital projects and not consumption activities. Ideally, salaries should be fully funded from taxes of all citizens with something left for capital projects. There is nothing wrong with the current structure of delta state. In the context of Nigeria, there is absolutely nothing the state can do at this time. We could trim the wage bill by 50%, what happens to almost 25,000 deltans, that will be loosing their jobs? Delta state will receive about N300B in revenues this year. N85B for civil service payroll is in order. The day we have authority over 600,000 barrels of crude pumped from the state daily. We will rearrange our prioritizes. As for hardwork and ingenuity, I will gladly compare delta to any state in this Nation. Be rest assured, we will be right at the top. |
Pukkah: Delta has a revenue of N45.5 billion and pays salaries that's almost twice as that - N85.2 billion! We don't see a problem, give us 50% resource control and that problem is gone for ever. By the way, that N45B IGR is 90% payee tax. With the civil service workforce a major contributor. |
Garri the 1st: Why??What do you mean by why? Delta State has a very high service civil workforce. Simply because Uduaghan turned the civil service into a jobs program. I don't understand your beef. |
The civil service is a major employer in SS states. That's why Rivers and Delta have a higher wage bill than Lagos. |
