Celebrities / Sho Madjozi On Burna Boy ‘beef’: I Can Not Be Intimidated By Burna Boy by atorioke(m): 7:54am On Jun 30, 2020
SA rapper Sho Madjozi has taken fresh shots at rival Burna Boy, saying she is not intimidated by the Nigerian star.

The pair squared off in the Best International Act category at the BET Awards on Monday, but the awards were overshadowed by claims that Burna had allegedly asked for Sho’s remix to be pulled from streaming services.

Speaking on her decision to “out” the rapper on Twitter, Sho told YFM’s Scoop Makhathini and Bontle Modiselle that she was not intimidated by the rapper.

“I know that, like, he is a bully. It is that thing of gatekeeping in this industry, as if there can only be one African superstar on a global platform. I don’t believe in that at all, there is enough space for everyone”.

She claimed that not even Burna’s team trusted him to tweet for himself, and said that all her tweets were 100% authentic.

“They don’t even let him tweet for himself because they know how he is. Everything you see about me out there is me. I write it. I stand for what I stand for and I will always say things how they are. At the end of the day, I am not scared of anyone. They are a person, I am a person. Just because you are on an international level, so are we.”

Sho claimed in a long Twitter thread last week that Burna and his label were allegedly responsible for taking down a remix of Stormzy’s Own It, in which she was featured.

Crime / Kenya: Mother Of Four Kills All Her Children, Blames Evil Spirit by atorioke(m): 7:45am On Jun 30, 2020
A woman suspected to have killed four of her children is now blaming evil spirits and a broken relationship.

After spending two nights in police cells, Beatrice Mwende Kimothoi yesterday said reality had hit her and she is yet to come to terms with her deeds, which she termed as demonic.

Speaking before she was arraigned in court in Naivasha, the mother of seven asked for mercy, saying she was possessed and did not know what she was doing.
Possessed

“We ate supper together and even watched TV before the children, whom I loved so much, went to bed only for the evil spirits to take over,” said Mwende.

Mwende, 42, said her boyfriend whom they parted ways last year would take control over her, ordering her to do all manner of queer things during their relationship.

She claimed that on the 26th day of every month, she would be possessed by evil spirits that commandeered her to do all kind of deeds that she was not in control of.

“I have never loved anyone so much and on this night, he took control of me and I strangled my children one after the other before laying them on their beds,” she narrated.

Melody Warigia (cool, Willy Macharia (6), Samantha Njeri (4) and Whitney Nyambura (2) were on Saturday found dead on their beds, next to each other. Melody and Willy were students at Milimani Primary School.

Yesterday, detectives were allowed seven more days to continue holding Mwende. She appeared before Naivasha Law Courts but was not required to plead to the charges. The police said they intended to charge her with murder.

Mental assessment

Corporal Samuel Wambugu also told Naivasha Senior Resident Magistrate Yusuf Baraza that they had not conducted a mental assessment on the suspect nor a post-mortem on the four bodies.

Mwende will appear in court on July 6.
While seeking for God’s and her relatives’ forgiveness, Mwende who worked with an NGO in Naivasha town, said that at no time had she contemplated killing her children.

“Am hoping that this is a bad dream and I will wake up and find my children healthy because I would never even hurt a fly,” she said.

The suspect added that on realising what she had done on Saturday morning, she went to seek out the boyfriend who works in Naivasha town.

“I felt so relieved and lighter on seeing him before proceeding to a bar where we always met. That is where the police came for me,” she said.

Foreign Affairs / Malawi Opposition Leader Wins Presidential Election Re-run by atorioke(m): 11:26am On Jun 28, 2020
BLANTYRE – Malawi’s opposition leader Lazarus Chakwera on Saturday was declared the winner of a re-run presidential election, a dramatic reversal of incumbent Peter Mutharika’s discredited win 13 months earlier in a process that analysts viewed as a triumph for democracy in Africa.

Chakwera, 65, secured the required majority, with 58.57% of the vote on Tuesday, the electoral commission said, beating Mutharika. Chakwera won election to a five-year term as president of the nation of 18 million people.

“My victory is a win for democracy and justice. My heart is bubbling with joy,” Chakwera said after his win, which sparked wild late night celebrations on the streets of the capital Lilongwe, his stronghold.

In power since 2014, Mutharika must now either challenge the result in court or step aside. The vote was regarded by analysts as a test of the ability of African courts to tackle ballot fraud and restrain presidential power.

The judiciary infuriated Mutharika in February by overturning the result of the May 2019 election that had given him a second term, citing irregularities, and ordering a re-run. Mutharika’s disputed win sparked months of anti-government demonstrations, a rare sight in Malawi.

“The commission declares that Lazarus Chakwera … has attained the requisite majority of electorate and is duly elected as president,” the electoral commission chairman Chifundo Kachale said.

Before seeking public office, Chakwera served as president of the Malawi Assemblies of God.

Mutharika, 79, earlier on Saturday said there had been voting irregularities including violence and intimidation against his party’s election monitors, but the complaint was dismissed by the electoral commission. The opposition has denied the allegations.

The ruling against Mutharika’s election victory, upheld by the nation’s supreme court, echoed one by a Kenyan court in 2017 that nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta’s election win – although in that case Kenyatta went on to win the re-run.

Both decisions were celebrated by pro-democracy activists on a continent where judges rarely challenge executive power.

There were no independent reports of irregularities, and no international observer missions this time because of COVID-19. Local observers have said the poll was free and fair.

Last year’s cancelled result also forced a change in the electoral system, swapping a “first-past-the-post” system for one in which the winner has to get more than 50% of votes.

I have noticed this worrying trend about south west APC supporters being the ones majorly against the re-election of Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki
You would hardly see Apc supporters from other regions being this vocal, and fighting this hard against Obaseki's re-election, despite Edo state not being a south west state.

It makes one wonder what they stand to gain if Obaseki doesn't get re-elected.

Does it have anything to do with 2023 general election?

We South Southerners marvel at their behaviour. I have noticed that they are many here on nairaland as it is owned by one of them. They are just here spewing advises on how he should not bother to fight back. They want him to be like Ambode.

I regret being in the same country with them and not even the Hausas. They and the fulanis are problems.

I will advise Edo and other South South people not to reply their comments. It is not worth it. Just ignore them. Be silent on their comment.

Crime / Court Sentenced Man To Life Imprisonment For Raping 15-year-old Girl by atorioke(m): 2:08pm On Jun 07, 2020
An Abeokuta, Ogun State High Court on Friday sentenced a 23-year-old man, Lekan Felix, to life imprisonment for abduction and raping a 15-year-old girl.

Delivering his judgment, Justice Abiodun Adeyemi convicted Felix on two counts of having sexual intercourse and the abduction of a child under 16 years.

The judge held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubts.

Adeyemi held that the evidence presented by the prosecution was tenable and, therefore, he had to sentence Felix to life imprisonment.

The state prosecuting counsel, Adekunle Sodeinde, said Felix committed the offences on February 17, 2013 at Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.

According to the counsel, the convict unlawfully abducted a 15-year -old girl (names withheld), who was living with her elder sister.

Sodeinde said Felix took the girl to where her family members or anybody would not locate her whereabouts, and was having sexual intercourse with her for two years.

He said: “The victim was sent on an errand by her elder sister.

“On her way, she met the convict who bought drink for her.

“After taking the drink, she passed out.

“And few hours later on opening her eyes, she met herself at Felix’s house at Ijoko village in Owode-Egba in Abeokuta.

“Felix took advantage of her by sexually abusing her and was using her to work as a labourer on his farmland for two years before she regained her senses.”

Sodeinde said Felix confessed that he used charm on her so that she would not know where she was or think of going home.

He noted that the offences contravened Section 32 of the Child Rights Laws of Ogun and Section 362 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun 2006.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that as at the time of the incident, Lekan was 23 years old, but at the time of his conviction, he was 30 years old.

Politics / Nyesom Wike Cancels Lockdown Of Obio/akpor, Port Harcourt Local Governments by atorioke(m): 6:53pm On May 26, 2020
Rivers State Government has cancelled the proposed lockdown of Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas scheduled to resume tomorrow.

Governor Nyesom Wike who stated this in a state-wide broadcast also announced the imposition of 8p.m to 6am curfew in the 23 Local Government Areas of the State with effect from June 2,2020 till further notice.

The Governor also revealed that government has uncovered plans by some criminal elements led by one Bobosky to cause security breaches in Khana, Eleme,Gokana, Tai, Oyigbo and Ikwerre Local Government Areas.

“After a comprehensive review of the measures taken and further considerations placed before us by well-meaning members of the public, the State Security Council has decided to cancel the proposed lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas of the State.

“In essence, no part of Rivers State is or will be under any lockdown from this moment and this will be so, except where it becomes necessary again.

“As we all know, the regular washing of hands, religious wearing of face masks, keeping effective physical and social distance of between 1.5 to 2 meters from other people, completely avoiding touching of faces with unwashed hands, and cleaning of surfaces we regularly touch have been identified as some of the most effective measures against contracting this virus in the absence of vaccine, ” he said.

According to the Governor, government would re-enforce the decisions on the continuous implementation of the following measures throughout the State:

(i) All land borders, including all exit and entry routes into Rivers State shall remain closed to human and vehicular traffic, except those on essential services and duly exempted.

(ii) All residents must wear face masks or covering into any public space, including our roads, banks, shopping malls, shops, hotels and in any lawful social gathering.

(iii) The State task force and the security agencies have been directed to arrest and summarily prosecute any person seen on our streets or any other public place without wearing face masks.

(iv) All banks, motor parks, hotels, restaurants, shops, business centres, shopping malls, and offices must maintain social distancing and enforce the wearing of face masks in their premises.

(v) The State task force and security agencies have been directed to seal up, prosecute and confiscate to the State any bank, shopping mall, restaurant, shop, business place or office that fails to enforce social distancing and the wearing of face masks in its premises.

(vi) In addition to providing daily guest list to the Police and the Department of State Security, hoteliers must not host large gatherings, including parties and receptions. Defaulting hotels will be sealed-up and the owners summarily prosecuted.

(vii) All bars, beer palours, or drinking joints, night-clubs, viewing centres, open markets and cinemas shall remain closed until further notice;

(viii) Oil mill market in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area shall remain closed until further notice;

(ix) Oginigba Slaughter market in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area shall similarly remain closed until further notice.

(x) Mbiama market in Ahoada West Local Government Area shall also remain closed until further notice;

(xi) All public weddings, burials and large social gatherings shall remain banned.

(xii) Churches and other religious gatherings should continue to comply with the existing advisory on social distancing, initiate temperature checks and enforce the wearing of face masks during their activities;

(xiii) Dealers in Ikoku Spare Parts markets are warned for the last time to stop converting public roads to mechanic workshops or risk final closure.

(xiv) Similarly, no mechanic workshop should be found along Ikwerre road as Government will prosecute defaulters and confiscate any vehicle being repaired on any public road.

(xv) Private and commercial vehicles, including tricycles must continue to limit their passengers to the number earlier established and enforce the wearing of face masks by all passengers. Defaulters will be prosecuted and their vehicles confiscated by the Task force.

These measures, he said, are in the best interest of our State, to protect our lives, businesses, and jobs as well as, to prevent our troubled economy from suffering irreparable damage.

“This also means that, residents now bear much greater responsibility to stop and prevent our State from suffering the exponential and potentially devastating spread of the virus being experienced across the

“As 60% of the positive cases recorded in the State are connected with oil company workers, we have initiated a meeting with all the major oil companies to work out strategies on how we can stop this trend and stop the risk this category of workers now pose to the State.

“Government is also investigating the rumored or suspected outbreak of the coronavirus at Bonny Island.

“Our team of medical personnel led by the Commissioner for Health has visited Bonny Island and collected samples from suspected cases for analysis and immediate intervention should the results indicate the outbreak of the virus in the area, “the governor said.

The State Chief Executive also revealed that intelligence has intercepted a clandestine plan by some criminal elements led by Bobosky to cause security breaches in the State by instigating violence and burning down churches in Khana, Eleme, Gokana, Tai and Oyigbo Local Government Areas of the State.

He assured all residents that the State Government is fully ready and prepared to deal with the situation and continue to guarantee the protection of lives and property throughout the State.

The Governor implored all residents to be vigilant and report all suspicious characters and movements in their neighbourhoods to security agencies.

“Leaders and vigilante groups in our communities are to work with the security agencies to enforce curfew in their localities and arrest and prosecute anyone that violates the curfew order.

“We urge our people to stop the fake news on social media; stop the baseless bickering, the needless blame game, and the seditious rumours that does no good to our image or provide any solution to the common challenges that we face.

“Rather, we should all come together, put our fate in our own hands and work for the common good of all, whether as individuals, families or as communities,” he stated.

The Governor commended all health workers who have continued to put their lives at risk in the forefront in the battle against COVID-19.

Yahksbiz:
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Saturday, gave an insight into his whereabouts in the past few weeks.

Osinbajo, who spoke through his spokesperson, Akande Laolu, disclosed that he has been attending to official matters on how to improve Nigeria’s economy.

Laolu, in an Instagram post shared with DAILY POST, after he was contacted on Osinbajo’s whereabouts, urged Nigerians to ignore fake claims regarding President Muhammadu Buhari and the Vice President’s whereabouts.

He recalled that the Vice President on Thursday met with the Governor of Central Bank, CBN, Kaduna State Governor, and some Ministers via video conferencing.

According to Laolu: “With my boss the Vice President last night in his office, reviewing some of the events of the week.

“By the way continue to ignore professional fake news conduits who share fictions about the whereabouts of the president and his Vice.

“The critical mass of our people see both the president and the VP regularly on TV, hear about them regularly on radio, read from them in the press and observe their activities regularly on the social media.

“For instance, on Thursday the VP held a videoconferencing meeting that included the governor of Kaduna, Power and Finance Ministers, the CBN governor and other government officials on how to expand electricity in the country.

“The work goes on, and Nigeria will surely prevail. We will do it together.”

Osinbajo’s absence from public view in the past weeks had sparked some form of conspiracy that he may have contracted COVID-19 or he’s in trouble.

However, Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, had explained that Osinbajo has been busy working with the Economic Sustainability Committee.
