Health / Coronavirus: 17 Italians In India Test Positive by atorioke(m): 9:34am On Mar 04, 2020
A group of Italian tourists have been put in quarantine in India, with 17 testing positive for the new coronavirus, a source told AFP Wednesday.

Italy is a hotspot of the deadly virus with 79 deaths and more than 2,500 infected, while India's official case total stands at only 21.

After two out of a group of 23 tourists who arrived in the country last month tested positive in the western state of Rajasthan, the other 21 were put under quarantine in a special facility in New Delhi on Tuesday.

"Out of the 21 tourists, 15 have been tested positive for coronavirus. We are awaiting test results of the others," the source said on condition of anonymity.

Worldwide around 3,200 people have died from the virus with more than 90,000 infections, with China, South Korea, Italy, Iran and Japan the worst affected.

India has now stepped up preventative measures including barring visitors from Italy, Iran, South Korea and Japan, except diplomats and officials from international bodies.

"There is no need to panic. We need to work together, take small yet important measures to ensure self-protection," Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on Tuesday.

"Had an extensive review regarding preparedness on the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. Different ministries & states are working together, from screening people arriving in India to providing prompt medical attention," he said.

Crime / U.S Woman To Be Jailed For Fake $1500 Marriage With Nigerian by atorioke(m): 2:01pm On Feb 15, 2020
An American woman from New Jersey has admitted in a federal court to entering a sham marriage with a Nigerian who was living in Pittsburgh so he could become a permanent resident, according to prosecutors.

Ajia Strauss, 28, of Newark, pleaded guilty in Pittsburgh federal court to conspiracy to defraud the United States, Triblive reported.

Strauss entered a guilty plea before United States District Court Judge Marilyn J. Horan.

Strauss and Monsuru Ogunbiyi, a citizen of Nigeria, married on June 3, 2016, in exchange for $1,500, according to court papers. The fake couple later submitted falsified documents and made untrue statements to Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Strauss and Ogunbiyi did other things to make themselves appear a couple — staging photographs, claiming to live together and opening a joint bank account, according to prosecutors.

He filed in December 2017 an application for permanent residency status. But the scheme apparently unraveled as authorities obtained text messages between the pair that showed a discussion about using Strauss’ address “and that they needed to learn more about each other,” according to the indictment.

Ogunbiyi pleaded guilty to the same offense in December and was sentenced to time served. He spent about two and a half months in jail, according to court records.

They were indicted in July 2019. Strauss is now due for sentencing June 4, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

In the original indictment by the Department of Justice, Western District of Pennsylvania, presented to the court, “from June 2016, to March 2019, Monsuru Ogunbiyi and Ajia Strauss conspired with one another to defraud the United States.

“Ogunbiyi, a native and citizen of Nigeria, and Strauss, a native and citizen of the United States, agreed to enter into a sham marriage so that Ogunbiyi could obtain lawful permanent residency in the United States. As part of the conspiracy, Ogunbiyi agreed to pay money to Strauss, including $1,500 on the day of their June 3, 2016, marriage in New Jersey. Also as a part of the conspiracy, Ogunbiyi and Strauss submitted false and fraudulent state

Crime / Robed Lawyer Slapped By Officer Attached To Cp's Convoy In Delta (pictures) by atorioke(m): 11:05am On Jan 26, 2020
THE INVASION OF HIGH COURT FOUR, ASABA, DELTA STATE AND THE DISRUPTION OF ITS PROCEEDINGS BY THE POLICE OFFICERS ATTACHED TO THE CONVOY OF THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, DELTA STATE COMMAND AND THE ASSAULT ON A LAWYER: A FERVENT CALL FOR THE DETERRENT LIGHT OF PUNISHMENT TO PREVAIL OVER THE DARKNESS OF IMPUNITY.

BY SAMSON C. OKEHIELEM, ESQ.

The judge is the most important figure in the judicial system and in the administration of justice. When a person is appointed a judge, he/she is considered to have many qualities far beyond that of mere mortals. This is the reason he/she is addressed as ‘My lord ‘. A learned writer, professor Epiphany Azinge, has once described the judge as the “Chief Priest of the temple of Justice and all who worship in that temple not only defer to him but perceives him as a symbol of justice”.

Any person or group of persons whose action tend to disrespect, or disregard or scorn the court, has always been held liable for contempt of court, especially in more civilized Climes, for if the court is brought to disrepute, then, the entire justice system is at risk of losing its potency. The Court is the judge and the judge is the court.

The High Court four is one of the Criminal Divisions of the High Courts in Asaba, Delta State, specially assigned to entertain and determine criminal matters. The court is situated at Umueze’s Road, Asaba, Delta
State, which is very much adjacent to the above Road. Whenever the court is in session, the aforesaid road adjoining the court , is always barricaded for the purpose of security and to ensure effective administration of justice. There are several alternative roads which any motor vehicles could access to arrive at their destinations.

Officers of Delta CP’s convoy
On the 13th day of January, 2020, the court was in session when the men, operatives and officers (led by SP Oluwole Ojo, the DPO in charge of ‘A’ Division police, Asaba) attached to the convoy of Mohammed Hafiz Inuwa, who is the commissioner of police, Delta State command, came in a commando, gestapo style and ordered the registrar of Court 4 to remove the barricade in that the CP wanted to pass through the road.

The registrar told SP Oluwole Ojo that the
Court was in session and that they were disrupting the its proceedings. SP Ojo said that he didn’t care if the court was in session and insisted that the convoy of the CP must pass via the road. Suddenly, SP Ojo and his men forcefully dismantled the barricade, walked majestically along the road like infantry in a combative mood. Then, the CP and his convoy drove via the road, infesting the Court premises with the ironed hand of Lawlessness and pandemonium.

In the course of this melodramatic lawlessness and pandemonium, the presiding judge of the Court, Hon. Justice F. N. Azinge, had already been forced to run into her Chambers, having abruptly adjourned the proceedings of the Court. She ran and called on phone, the Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, Fredrick Eruli-Ede, Esq.

Robed lawyers
At or about five minutes later, the court resumed its sitting or proceedings after the
CP convoy had driven passed the road. The barricade that was dismantled by the CP convoy was remounted when the court had resumed sitting. At about twenty minutes later, the aforesaid CP’s convoy returned in same commando style and insisted on passing through the said Umueze’s Road Again. The aforesaid presiding judge, ran into her chambers again, having also adjourned proceedings. The lawyers in the court on that day, including my humble self, came out of the Court. As I came out, I decided to use my handset to record the lawlessness being perpetuated by the CP’s Convoy.

As I was recording the lawless incident, one woman Sergent Galadima, armed with gun, came towards me, held me and assaulted me: she gave me a slap( while I was still fully robed in my wig and gown), stating that she had the order of the CP and the said DPO to assault me , for my having the audacity to take a shot of them- the police officers attached to the convoy of the CP. The said Galadima was so drunk with the order given to her by the CP that she attempted to assault me again and again but was held back by some lawyers as you can see on the short video clip. As a law-abiding citizen, I have decided to Retaliate against the assault on my person( through legal means) by suing the the Sergent, DPO, CP, etc.

The above-named chairman of the NBA, Asaba branch, called by the judge, did not come to the court until the convoy of the CP had gone. When he came, he collected my name and phone number, and apologized to me and to the court and left. The chairman has done nothing ever since then-since 13/01/2020, when the lawless incident occurred. I had expected the chairman to call for a press conference or for an emergency meeting of the NBA, Asaba Branch, to address the issue. He failed to do either of this. Thus, I want to use this medium to call for the immediate resignation of Fredrick Eruli-Ede, the Chairman of NBA, Asaba Branch, Asaba, Delta State.

One thing has always set me thinking: The
Continue culture of impunity and wanton disregard for our sacred institutions is increasingly and worryingly becoming the order of the day in Nigeria. On the 7th day
of October, 2006, official of the State Security Service (SSS) invaded the houses of serving justices of Supreme Court and some judges of the Federal High Court. On the 7th day of August, 2018, officers of the SSS, dressed in hoods and masks, invaded the Nigeria National Assembly by barricading its entrance, and preventing members from accessing the premises. Despity this, nobody was punished.

Recently, on the 6th day of December, 2019 SSS official invaded the court in order to rearrest Omoyele Sowore, which invasion sparked a nationwide outrage because of the anarchy that was loosed upon the court. Yet, nobody has been punished for the invasion. Impunity strives in a society when people do not get punished for the wrong they have committed. In Nigeria, the law is like cobwebs, which may catch small flies, but let wasps and hornets break through. Therefore, I call for the deterrent light of punishment to prevail over the darkness of impunity: If those who invaded the court in Sowore’s case had been punished, then it would have served as a deterrent to those who invaded High Court 4, Asaba.

Romance / Mother Snatches Daughter's Husband, Gets Pregnant For Him by atorioke(m): 5:32pm On Jan 23, 2020
A 34-year-old woman has narrated how her mother started having an affair with her husband and eventually got pregnant for him.

The 34-year-old lady identified as Lauren Wall who hails from Twickenham, south-west London reportedly got married at the age of 19-year-old to her ex-husband, the same man who left her for her mother.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Mail, Lauren disclosed that her mother supported her dream wedding with a sum of €15,000. Her mum also joined them on their honey moon.

According to Lauren, her mother and ex-husband got along so much that she could not suspect that they were having an affair.

Read full story below:

“Paul always got on really well with mum. I never thought it strange though, as she was his mum-in-law and he was just being friendly.

“They’d laugh a lot together. I didn’t think to be worried at all. Who would?’

“I couldn’t wait to settle into marriage but the ink was barely dry on our certificate when Paul changed.’

Lauren also disclosed how his sister saw text messages between her mom and her estranged husband. When she confronted her mother, she denied there was anything going on saying, “You’re crazy.’

“When I confronted Paul, he went white as a sheet – and refused to let me see his phone,’

As the fights continued, Paul stopped wearing his wedding ring and walked out on Lauren and their seven-month-old daughter.

When Lauren discovered that her ex-husband had moved in with her mother, she was shocked, she said: “It was sick. It’s one of the worst things a mum can do to a daughter.”

She went on to say: “I met him at a local pub – I fancied him straight away. He asked for my number and the next day he texted asking to go on a date to the cinema. We started going out straight after that.

“Five months later we were getting married in a beautiful church ceremony with friends and family. Mum looked on proudly as we exchanged vows

“When I saw her in the street and noticed she had a bump, my mind raced. She clutched her stomach and told me, ‘It’s a cyst’. I felt so sick, I went home and destroyed all the photos of our wedding.”

Exactly 9 months after Paul left Lauren, her mother welcomed a baby girl with him.

“She tried to claim the father was another boyfriend but I knew the truth. Paul and mum officially announced themselves as a couple that summer and my world crumbled.

“She rang me up and invited me. It was awkward. I got married Aug. 14, 2004; they married on Aug. 15 2009. It was almost too much to bear but I did it for my daughter. I went to watch Mum marry the same man I’d wed five years earlier.”

At a point, Julia’s mum tried to reconcile with her, but she refused.

Julia said: “She initiated it. I dropped my brother off at her house and she got in my car, started crying and just said, ‘I’m sorry’.

“I told her, ‘Get out of my car’. She wrote me a letter a couple of weeks later apologizing. And that was the start of us mending our relationship.’

“I still bring it up and make a comment and she doesn’t like it. Just because we spoke after doesn’t mean I’m over it. Paul never said sorry or tried to apologize to me.

“I speak to him as he’s married to my mum. I’ve asked him before to explain to our daughter and he just says it’s forgotten about now.”

Since then, Lauren has moved on with her life with another man, but she admits that the trauma from the incident will hunt her for the rest of her life.

“Time is a great healer, and mum and I have tried to have a normal relationship. But we will never be as close as we were – and I’ll never fully trust her again.”

Crime / Man 'travels 300kms To Kill 22-year-old Girlfriend' by atorioke(m): 5:47pm On Jan 22, 2020
Kinangop, Nyandarua County have arrested 25-year-old man in connection with the death of a 22-year-old woman, whom he was dating.

The suspect, Allan Musila, who works as a security guard with G4S in Kakamega County, arrived at the now-deceased’s house in Weru area in Kinangop late Tuesday, January 21.

An argument between them erupted, leading to a fatal attack.

Police say Musila stabbed his girlfriend, Consolata Wambui, a teacher at St. Michael’s Girls’ High School in Nyandarua, multiple times using a kitchen knife.

Wambui sustained serious injuries to the head and chest.

Wambui’s brother, who resides near his sister’s rented house, told K24 Digital that he heard Wambui screaming for help, and when he arrived at the scene, he found Musila holding a knife that had blood dripping from it.

The deceased’s sibling said he raised the alarm, attracting the attention of neighbours, who rushed to Wambui’s house and disarmed the suspect.

Police from Engineer station were called to the scene, where they rescued the suspect from the irate mob.

Wambui, a mother of a young daughter, died Tuesday night shortly after she was admitted to Engineer Sub-County Hospital.| Published on atorioke.xyz. Her body remains preserved at the medical facility’s morgue.

Doctors said Wambui lost a lot of blood, resulting in her death.

Musila is currently detained at Engineer Police Station as investigations into Wambui’s killing continue.

Wambui’s relatives said their kin had ended her relationship with Musila some time back, and were shocked to learn that he had travelled from Kakamega to Kinangop — a distance of 300kms — to eliminate their loved one.

The two had a daughter together.

The National Coordinator of POCACOV, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said this in a statement issued in Enugu.

Amaraizu said that the move was to galvanise followers, nation-wide to support the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu’s initiative to fully succeed.

According to him, POCACOV’s latest platforms are meant to reach out to teeming millions of Nigerians that negated cultism and its related activities.

“The Nigeria Police wishes to inform members of the public that POCACOV has widened its scope of communication to bridge communication gap between it and other stakeholders in the fight against cultism nationwide.

Health / Health: What You Should Know About Coronavirus Killing People In Asia by atorioke(m): 11:40am On Jan 22, 2020
A new Chinese coronavirus, a cousin of the SARS virus, has infected hundreds since the outbreak began in wuhan, China, in December.

Scientist Leo Poon, who first decoded the virus, thinks it likely started in an animal and spread to humans.

“What we know is it causes pneumonia and then doesn’t respond to antibiotic treatment, which is not surprising, but then in terms of mortality, SARS kills 10% of the individuals,” Poon said.

The World Health Organization offered guidance to countries on how they can prepare for it, including how to monitor for the sick and how to treat patients.

Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that are common among animals. In rare cases, they are what scientists call zoonotic, meaning they can be transmitted from animals to humans, according to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

The viruses can make people sick, usually with a mild to moderate upper respiratory track illness, similar to a common cold.

Coronavirus symptoms include a runny nose, cough, sore throat, possibly a headache and maybe a fever, which can last for a couple of days.

For those with a weakened immune system, the elderly and the very young, there’s a chance the virus could cause a lower, and much more serious, respiratory tract illness like a pneumonia or bronchitis.

Viruses can spread from human contact with animals. Scientists think MERS started in camels, according to the WHO. With SARS, scientists suspected civet cats were to blame.

When it comes to human-to-human transmission of the viruses, often it happens when someone comes into contact with the infected person’s secretions.

Depending on how virulent the virus is, a cough, sneeze or handshake could cause exposure.

The virus can also be transmitted by touching something an infected person has touched and then touching your mouth, nose or eyes. Caregivers can sometimes be exposed by handling a patient’s waste, according to the CDC.

There is no specific treatment. Most of the time, symptoms will go away on their own.

Doctors can relieve symptoms by prescribing a pain or fever medication. The CDS says a room humidifier or a hot shower can help with a sore throat or cough.

Drink plenty of fluids, get rest and sleep as much as possible; if symptoms feel worse than a standard cold, see your doctor.

There is no vaccine to protect against this family of viruses, at least not yet. Trials for a MERS vaccine are underway.

You may be able to reduce your risk of infection by avoiding people who are sick.

Try to avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Wash your hands often with soap and water and for at least 20 seconds.

If you are sick, stay home and avoid crowds and contact with others.

Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and disinfect the objects and surfaces you touch.

Linkedln Community: How To Change Linkedln Background Photo *Read to the end before attempting it.

It is important to note that you can't change/upload a linkedln background photo with the linkedln app on your smartphone; be it iOS or Android device. If you try doing so, you will end up changing your profile picture. You can only change the background photo on a desktop version of linkedln.com website and not even on the mobile version.

While trying to access linkedln on web, it will automatically detect your device and direct you to a version that suits your device. Result being that, if you are accessing the website with a desktop or laptop, it will automatically direct you to the desktop version. And if it is a smartphone, it will direct you you to the mobile version.

However, there is a trick you can employ that will make accessing the desktop version with a smartphone very possible and thereby able to change the background photo with the smartphone.

Here is a simple instruction/breakdown on how to change your linkedln background photo with your desktop and/or smartphone.

DESKTOP:
1. Visit linkedln.com with a browser (Google Chrome is best of options).
2. Log into your linkedln account.
3. Click the pencil-like icon under the background photo; at the right corner.
4. Select your desired photo.
5. Crop, adjust or edit if necessary.
6. Upload and save.

SMARTPHONE
1. Open your Google Chrome browser.
2. Visit linkedln.com
3. Log into your linkedln account.
4. Tap the three dots icon or upward arrow-like icon at the top right corner of your Google Chrome browser; after the URL by your right.
5. Enable desktop version.
6. Tap the pencil-like icon under the background photo; at the right corner.
7. Select your desired photo.
8. Crop, adjust and or edit if necessary.
9. Upload and save.

✓ Your linkedln background photo will then change to the newly uploaded photo.

* Make sure the length of the photo you intend to use is four times more than the width so that linkedln required size-adjustment will not affect your photo, to have a perfect linkedln background photo make sure the photo resolution is 1584 pixel wide times 396 pixel high (1584 X 396).

* Photo size shouldn't be more than 4mb.

2. Visit linkedln.com.

Travel / Re: Top 10 Best States To Hustle In Nigeria by atorioke(m): 9:58pm On Oct 19, 2019
FactBoyz:
()
The average Nigerian youth is conscious about hustling to make it big in the country.

With poverty rate in Nigeria increasing; ideas and innovation are abounding as people seek to solve daily problems and challenges in exchange for cash.

The business market in Nigeria is actually attractive; however inconsistent power supply has been the major challenge; with most companies running with standby generators which use expensive fuel.

However, with many Nigerians wanting to start a business with aim of making massive profits; below, is a list of best Nigerian states to hustle and make it big.

1. Lagos:

The former capital of Nigeria is no doubt coming as the number 1; this is because it is the economic nerve and epicenter of Nigeria.

The opportunities in Lagos are diverse with their tentacles spread across entertainment, information and communication technology, trade, commerce, the academia, and even the religious.

Lagos is the place where you can come in as a poor, unemployed man and still be able to make millions after some years; if you really work hard in Lagos, the chances to make it big are high.

However, for one to really hustle in Lagos, noticed that one has to be very smart and proactive with the reserved ability to solve problems and get paid for services rendered.

Lagos is not a place for a quiet, reserved hustler. You must show you have the vibe and the spirit to work really hard.

2. Kano:

The northern city of Kano prides itself as the economic hub of northern Nigeria.

Every northern city links up to Kano with regards to trade and commerce. With impressive infrastructure and roads, the city is filled with business opportunities to be tapped into.

The population of Kano alone creates an impressive labour market and target market for startups and growing brands or businesses.

3. Anambra:

Anambra is undoubtedly the most visited city in the south eastern part of the country with regards to trade and commerce.

The distinct difference Anambra has with almost all the states mentioned here is that up to 65-70% of goods imported into Nigeria end up in Anambra state.

The cities of Nnewi and Onitsha are the major cities where trade is carried out.

If you visit Anambra there is this tense atmosphere you will experience that speaks a lot about the hustling nature of most Anambra residents.

4. Rivers:Rivers is a state that can be likened to Lagos in a various number of ways; firstly it is the economic epicenter of far south part of the country.

Secondly, it is the most populous state in the South Eastern and South Southern part of the country.
Finally, the job opportunities are as numerous as it is in Lagos.

The population and location of Rivers state gives it an edge over all other Southern state with the exception of Lagos.Rivers with Port Harcourt as the capital is a developed state; at least going by Nigerian standards with many companies of international origin and indigenous origins sited there.

You must have a resilient, stubborn spirit with regards to approach to business to thrive there.

5. Delta:

Delta state is a state blessed with crude oil and it doesn’t come as a surprise in this list; Delta state is home to cities such as Warri and Asaba.Asaba is the capital of the city with a very close proximity range to the River Niger bridge which links Onitsha Anambra state and Asaba Delta state.

This linkup alone creates a very attractive business atmosphere as goods that make their way to Onitsha end up in Asaba.Warri itself a different city in the state is home to various oil companies and large firms.

6. Oyo:

Historically, Oyo state has been a major point for trading point in the South Western part of Nigeria. That characteristic character has remained intact over the years.

The capital, Ibadan is loaded with several business opportunities and the target market for business is highly attractive.

It’s relative close proximity to Lagos also plays a role.

7. Abia:

Abia state is home to the commercial city Aba.

With regards to business in South Eastern part of Nigeria, Aba and Onitsha are the two major cities with the best business opportunities with a very attractive target market.

Abia state deals majorly in production and manufacturing with interests in shoe productions, textile making, soap production, palm oil production; etc.

8. Kaduna:Kaduna state is a state with diverse opportunities especially with focus on the commercial city of Zaria.

Zaria city has been a major city even dating back to the 16th century.Zaria city services a good number of states in the Northern part of Nigeria.

9. Plateau:

Plateau state with capital as Jos; is second to none when it comes to business opportunity in the North Central part of Nigeria.Food in the city of Jos is relatively cheap; hence Igbo traders from Onitsha do make it a point of duty to import foodstuff from this city.

Jos plays the same role with Benue state citing foodstuff.

10. Ogun:

Ogun state is home to most industries in Nigeria.Ogun state is very close to Lagos the commercial city of the country; hence its inclusion is timely.Industries that deal on beverages, soap making and plastics are located in Ogun state.

The best private university in Nigeria; Covenant University is also located in Ogun state. Land in Ogun state is relatively cheap compared to Lagos, hence investors opt to buy land in Ogun state for production and later transport to Lagos for sale.

This doesn’t remove the fact that it’s a good state to work hard and make it.
