Kolo. . Death means what you wrote was so funny i almost died laughing!

Claustrophobia's the fear of confined/enclosed spaces. Like all those small places where there are no windows,no breeze, too many people squeezing into a space that's too small, feeling closed in or overcrowded makes me uncomfortable. I always sit near a window/near the exit, and i don't like sitting down in the middle of two people-i like sitting down at the edge. It's not as bad as some people's own sha which is why i said 'mildly'.

New Entry: 8:49 p.m Wednesday March 30th.
With those thoughts at the back of my head,i paid for the form. Suddenly,i really, really wanted to win that scholarship. Oh wait, scratch that,i really, really wanT to win that scholarship. I just hope everything goes according to plan.

Soi called my class rep and we agreed to meet at the NESA office(which is like the only place i know in my faculty apart from Twin Lts). Okay i realize that not everybody reading this knows what the Twin Lts are. LT1 and LT2(collectively known as the Twin LT's)are two lecture halls at the back of the Faculty of Social Sciences(which is simply called Faculty). They're right next to each other and they're identical, hence the name Twin Lts. Anyways,i digress. My class rep came to meet me. He's a tall, lanky fellow, and he wears glasses. He looks way older than me(okay maybe not waay older-just 4 or 5 years, but hell, that's older!). I guess i was used to my class prefect being someone who's the same age as i am(that's how it is in sec. school) so i was a bit surprised to see him. That didn't show on my face though. You know me,picture of charming conversation and all.(Did i ever mention the fact that i don't really like people?).

So anyways we got talking;he told me that two Eco textbooks and one Pol textbook was available. Pol stands for Political Science(i think) and Eco's my Economics courses-i've got three of them. We finalized arrangements. I had a little money with me and i wanted to pay for the textbooks there and then but he told me to wait till the next day(Tuesday). I'd made some new friends in the NESA office;there was a really nice 300level Eco student. He was the one who told me all about the scholarship forms and stuff, and he took my number. After we finished talking,i mentioned my sisters. "Those twins who wear the same clothes? They both wear glasses?". Yeah,i replied. "No way! Although",he paused, looking at me again,"you look like them. It's in the nose and the chin"  "Thanks",i said, not sure if i should but doing it all the same. We gisted a bit(while we were waiting for my class rep)and when he asked for my number i figured it was cool, since he was nice, and he knew my sisters and all. He's not really my type though. Too lanky. Not to mention the fact that we're practically the same height(and i never wear heels!). After i finished with my class rep,i said bye to them(i ended up talking with a couple of people in there)and then i left. My brain was going into overdrive as i contemplated the thing that could bring an end to my existence.

Oh don't get your panties in a bunch, nothing's gonna end my existence(not that i know of,anyways). I was thinking about the next day(Wednesday's) timetable. See,my class rep told me that we had classes from 10 a.m to 5 p.m straight. No breaks. 7 hours uninterruped. I could almost hear the nuts and bolts in my brain squeaking in protest at the very thought. I wanted to yell with the unfairness of it. How could they schedule 7 hours of uninterrupted classes? What monsters made that timetable? Could they possibly be any more inhuman?

I pondered those questions, and other random ones-i can never think of only one thing for too long;sometimes my brain is so hyper-active it's like my brain(lovely part of my body,by the way)is on a sugar high or something. I took a bus from Faculty to Main gate and then took a bus from Main Gate home. I got up around 7 a.m today. I did some chores and finally left home around 9.15ish. I didn't take any fluids before i left. There are no toilets in Uniben(okay,i'm sure there are,somewhere-i just know i'm prolly never gonna go there myself. Toilets that thousands of people use? No thank, you).

My first lecture,SAA 111(aka Introduction to Sociology and Anthropology)was to hold at the Basement,West Wing;another place we receive lectures. A good deal of it is underground-hence the nickname-Basement. I'm not sure anyone knows what it's really called. There was only one problem=I didn't know where Basement was(again, don't blame me-i'm not versed in the art of waka-about. If i have no business there, then i wont be there. I started attending lectures late so i wasn't able to attend one before the Nuga break).

I didn't wanna go about asking everyone;oh sorry, where's the West Wing in Basement. It would be like a giant sign saying 'JJC'  on/over my head. Suks was having lectures and i couldn't call her,so i did the next best thing-i called Kevin. Kevin's my second cousin, once removed or one kain thing, and he's in Uniben too. He's in Engineering so i called him and told me he'd be the one to take me to Basement. He agreed(like he had a choice grin ) and he took me there.

I think there were like 300 to 400 students there, and only about 200 seats(if we squeezed ourselves or sat with only one side of our bottoms). Since i was late,i had to deal with another problem-no chairs. Plus, the fans there were just for decoration, and there were no windows. It was friggin hot. I don't do well with heat. So there i was, chairless, breezeless, claustrophobic(though mildly so),surrounded by sweaty people. And i'm talking different levels of sweat. Mild dampness, averagely soaked and torrential downpours. Kev left after i thanked him and i was stuck there, alone. I was thinking of leaving altogether(because i didn't see how i could stand for one complete hour in the blistering heat)when one of Suk's friends saw me. He wasn't offering SAA,but the class after it,so he gave me his seat(such a gentleman, isn't he?)

I wasn't gonna reply today cos i'm way too tired but i'll just post somethng.
New Entry: 8:43p.m Wednesay 30th of March,2011.
I went to school on Monday, just to see how things were going. Turns out, lectures held. I waited for a few hours at the twin Lt's with a friend of mine,Suks(pronounced Socks). Okay her parents didn't really decide to name their kid Suks;we did. Her real name's Sukanmi, but we call her Suks. It always pisses her off so the name's stuck. So anyway,Suks and i went to school together(since i don't really know anywhere yet) and we hung out with a bunch of her friends at LT2. By 3-ish they had Bus 112-which i don't offer since she's a management science student and i'm not. I decided to go to the NESA office. I don't know how to describe it exactly;only that it's an office run by students and relating to students of Economics and Statistics. I wanted to get my time table and info on textbooks, school fees and stuff. My class rep's number was on a board so i saved it on my phone.

While i was there,i found out that scholarship forms were being given out. There're some oil companies;NNPC,Shell,Total etc etc that give out scholarship to 100 level students. Now i'll be honest,i wasn't really gung-ho about the whole scholarship thingy. I mean, sure,it's nice and all,but i don't really benefit from it. Oh yeah,my dad'll get to save his money, but how will that benefit me? It's not like he'll give me the money he's saving, right? That's what i was thinking-until someone told me that the companies pay students allowances. How much,i wondered. My cousin told me that her brother(who's also my cousin)was a beneficiary of a Shell scholarship in school and they paid him 100k per semester or per session, she wasn't sure which, and that was 5 years ago! My mind whirled as i thought of all the things i could do with that money.
Ipod touch, check. Hp Mini, check. Hell,i could even pay for dstv's premium bouquet and FINALLY get to watch my beloved Tinsel, after missing all the episodes since i left home!

Maybe it's a bit childish for me to be thinking about what i'd do with money i haven't even gotten, but i can't seem to stop myself. My cousin also said i could get sent abroad for my Masters and when i got back,i'd have a guaranteed job with Shell. That also got me thinking. I've always been very concerned with my future and with the idea of making something of myself. A guaranteed job at Shell sounded pretty damn good. I mean sure,it's not like i'd work there forever(my masterplan's to work 5-7 years in the corporate world and then start something of my own). I've always known i'd go stir-crazy working a regular 9 to 5 job so self-employment was always on my plate, and then reading 'Rich dad Poor dad' solidified that idea.

A good job would mean a lot of things for me. For starters,i'd be able to spoil my mom rotten. She's a stay-at-home mom,and she's made alot of sacrifices to be there for me. I sorta took them for granted until i grew older and saw how many kids my age would give an arm and a leg to have what i have-good meals,a parent waiting for me at home, someone to talk to about school and other little things i've taken as normal. My mom had a couple of not-so-good experiences when i was a kid. I remember one of my dad's sisters who lived abroad would come visiting every now and then, and she would bring stuff for my dad-gold watches, shoes, clothes, and nothing for my mom, someone who would cook for her,her daughters, her daughter's friends(my mom can cook for the whole world if you let her). I remember walking in on her talking to herself and saying how one George(forgive me if i'm spelling it wrong) wrapper would be nice. She tried to act like nothing was wrong but i'd heard her,and i told her not to worry. "Is it George wrapper you want? Don't worry mommy,i'll buy them for you someday soon. Infact,it will get to the point where you'll tell me it's too much and you don't want again, just you wait and see". She laughed at me and called me silly. It was a childish promise then, but even now,the basic elements are still there. I will buy her all the George wrappers she wants. Hell,i'll buy her everything she wants(and knowing her she won't ask for what she wants but i'll buy them anyway).

I haven't been the perfect daughter;infact i'm her most problematic child. As i grew older,we kept butting heads, and i'm actually closer to my dad than i am to her. My mom and i have a lot of ish-she gets under my skin, she irritates me,sometimes she just makes me wanna break stuff, and i imagine i make her feel the same way sometimes. But you know what, she's still my mom,and i love her very much. I know i piss her off,and chances are,i'll continue to piss her off with regularity as time goes on,and vice versa, but she's still my mom,and she holds a very special place in my life.
She has a perfectly good degree, and she gave that up to take care of us.

There was a time when we sorta felt that we'd held her back, like we'd stopped her from fulfilling her dreams or something, but she set us straight. I'll never forget what she said;"When i was growing up,this-being a stay-at-home mom wasn't my dream,i'll admit that. But you know what? Dreams change. Mine did. If i could go back in time,i would do it all over again. I don't regret the sacrifices i made.
I look at you,my four beautiful babies(my bro was still a baby then but she still calls all of us her babies-go figure)and it's all worth it,so never feel like you held me back, because you didn't".

My perfect date? Movie, popcorn and coke, shikena. Which kain of candle-lit dinner is that? Is it that Nepa has refused to give us light or no fuel? How am i supposed to see what i'm eating if there's no light? Picnic? Well i don't like sitting on sand/grass. Sand could enter my shoes + i could get grass stains. Nigerian guys are very fond of buying all those useless plastic flowers. God help the guy who brings me plastic flowers. And even if they're real, what do i want to use flowers for? I go chop flower? Shey i be goat? grin grin I don't want to watch the stars after sunset. Nights are meant for sleeping. And i don't want to watch the sunrise either. If God wanted me to watch the sunrise, dawn would've been by 10a.m. I need my morning sleep. That's when sleep is the sweetest. . So i'll stick with movies, popcorn and coke. And none of those looks burning with white hot desire. This no be Mills and Boons. Face the movie, chop your food and let's go. grin grin Okay maybe that sounds extreme, but i don't think i'm the romantic type.

New Entry:Trying to look sexy.
Sunday,27th March,2011.
I woke up about an hour ago, brushed my teeth, did all my chores, etc.
When i was done,i sat in front of the mirror, working on my pout. Every femme fatale has a killer pout, right? So i worked on it,but it was not werking.

You know all those femme fatale, sexpot types? The ones who can kill a man a single glance? Yeah, that type. That's NOT me. No matter how hard i try,it never works. I always end up looking cute, and nice, and innocent. That's what people tell me. Oh,you're soo cute,oh you're adorable. I don't want adorable angry . That's what people tell babies. angry .  I think i'm genetically incapable( grin grin ) of looking sexy, for now. Maybe in a few years, when i grow my sexy bone i'll be able to kill a man with a single glance(not like i plan on killing anyone but i wouldn't mind having the ability to do so grin)

It reminds me of one time when i was trying to wink at one of my guy friends sexily. So i was pouting, and winking, and then he asks in this concerned tone, sweetish,is something wrong with your eyes? angry And the stewwpid boy didn't even know what he'd done wrong!

I can laugh at myself, and now i see that it was verry funny. It's not like i was squinting horribly or anything(at least i hope not),but it's more like the gesture was so unusual that he was surprised. I eagerly await the day that i'll become a femme fatale extraordinaire. . Guys, watch out! grin

Family › Re: The Nonsense Called Divorce Settlement by Atreides(f): 9:26pm On Mar 26, 2011
Okay i get it now.
@biola,it's complicated. After going through some posts here i don't think it's as simple as yes or no.
Well i have to ask,why do you think she should get the divorce settlement? If you think it should be because of the sacrifices she made(child-bearing,taking care of the kids etc)then i have a problem with that. The man too makes sacrifices in a marriage. If he's not rewarded for his sacrifices, then why should she? That's what i have a problem with-the fairness of it all.

On the other hand,i don't think a woman should be thrown out into the street just like that. If she was a good wife and a good mother to her kids, then she deserves better.

I think in such cases(i'm talking real cases here, not cases where some gold-digger marries a man with the intention of getting a fat paycheck after a few years),then i believe the wife deserves a divorce settlement, but a reasonable one.

I think whatever she could've earned if she was working-based on her skills etc-should be paid to her. If she could realistically have earned 50,000 USD a year for 5 years then she deserves 250 grand. Even if the man is worth 500 million dollars, she should only get what is rightfully hers-the 250 grand, unless the man wants to dash her 10 million, but that should be his choice.
And child support too.
Please note that i think this should be done in cases where the wife was a good wife and mother-not a gold-digger.

It's not a yes or no question;should there be divorce settlement or not. I think it varies from case to case. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. And even when there is a settlement,it should be reasonable. It should be based on what the wife coulda realistically earned if she was working(that's if she was a housewife). Whether the man is a billionaire or not shouldn't matter-she should only get what she deserves.

If she was working throughout their marriage then i don't see any need for a divorce settlement.

I will not allow anyone shuk knife into my bosoms. Lots of things can go wrong in surgery. I'd rather not take that chance;and chances are,i won't need it.

Women who have extremely large bosoms even before childbirth and breastfeeding are a different ball game. I think the risks of surgery are at the very least equal to or even less than the health risks of carrying all that load.

60 year old women aren't meant to have perky calabsh shaped boobies. After breastfeeding numerous children, undergoing decades of hubby's ministrations on said boobies,it is only natural that their boobies will obey the law of gravity. What goes up must come down. It's all a part of aging gracefully.

So no,i don't think i'd do surgery on myself.

I only feel for those women with humongous boobies. When i think of the heat they must be feeling on their chests, the waist pain and back pain,i 'll support it if they go for a reduction or something. At least let breeze blow them small.

What interesting thing? The NUGA games? What part of i was not in Benin when it held do you not understand? huh huh
Was i supposed to have watched the games and reported on them from Warri? Uniben is only a part of this journal by virtue of me,not the other way round. If you want a Uniben newsletter then go somewhere else. I no be staff.

I repeat,if this is so boring,do not read, biko nwanyi. Just don't read and don't reply if it bores you. I understand boredom. I'm often afflicted with it myself,so if my writing bores you then don't read.
Literature › Re: Journal Of A Teenage Nigerian Jambite. by Atreides(op): 7:46pm On Mar 26, 2011
@Anathemia,oh dear, you want me to make up stuff that hasn't happened yet?
This is more about me than it is about Uniben,or is Uniben paying me to write?
Uniben is only part of it by virtue of me. Now if you know anything about Uniben's current sessions, you'd know that lectures had barely started before we went on NUGA break. We haven't even matriculated yet. School's just starting! When i resume and start everything proper,i'll write stuff about Uniben when it concerns.me. If you want regular newsletters about what goes on at Uniben, you'd best look elsewhere.

Oh and i did say that i left town during the NUGA games. If you knew you only wanted to read about Uniben and stuff, you shouldn't have read further than that.

That being said, you have a point-i do have a tendency to ramble. I like using words, and sometimes they get a way from me.

My trip to the dentist is the most interesting thing that's happened so far,and that's why i wrote about it. This is my first year in school and it's a learning experience for me too,so i know i'll definitely be writing sbout stuff as it happens.

That being said, this is my journal. Mine. I decide what to write and how to write it. I will not defend those choices or change them to suit anyone. If there's not enough stuff about Uniben here then that's fine by me. If you don't like what i'm writing then don't read it. Nothing's by force,k?

New Entry: My Music and i + My obsessions.
6:49 p.m. Saturday 26th of March,2011.
I love music. Ok i know everybody says that, but i really do love music. One thing that makes me different is the fact that i love such a broad range of music.
Most people my age have no idea who Kenny Rogers is,talkless of Skeeter Davis.
You can blame my dad for my slightly eclectic taste in music.
He loves Country music a la Jim Reeves and Kenny Roger,Soul, and of course, there's no self-respecting child of the 70's who doesn't like reggae.

I grew up listening to these people, and i liked them. Skeeter Davis i wanted to strangle on occasion, and Dolly Parton too, because some times their voices were so damn whiny, but i survived, and they grew on me. As i grew older,my tastes in music got more defined. I discovered that i love rock music, and that rap's like poetry in motion to me. For someone who writes, that's a BIG plus. I don't like hard-core rock;i've never been able to listen to death meta. I mean, come on,it's called 'DEATH' metal. 'DEATH'. Seriously? A lotta R nd B songs always put me to sleep instantly,so i'm not too fond of that genre. I was a bit skeptical about new school country, but then i discovered Carrie Underwood,Lady Antebellum,Rascal Flatts,Tim McGraw etc. Pure bliss. And nobody should mention Taylor Swift as a country singer,or else i'll shoot them. And Taylor Swift too, when i have a chance to. Taylor Swift is a piss-poor country singer. End of. I'll never understand what people see in her anyway.

When it comes to rap,i can do hard-core and soft-core. My fav white rapper would definitely be Eminem. The guys a friggin legend.
My top 5 Eminem songs,in no particular order, would be:
1-Stan.
2-Hailie Song.
3-Mockingbird
4-Love the way you lie.
5-When i'm gone.
I know lotsa people think Eminem's this gun-packing,dope-snorting,mom-dissing lunatic, but everytime i listen to him,i hear a man who loves his daughter to pieces. I don't care what anyone else thinks, and maybe this doesn't really fit into the whole bad-as.s raphead persona, but Eminem is a real sweetheart. That's right,i said it. Sweetheart! More on my music later.

Now let's talk about my obsessions.

I'm kinda weird. Not very weird, but kinda weird, but i'll get to that later. I function okay in social settings, but the truth is,well, how do i say this without soundling insensitive(and mildly crazy).
Ah well,it can't be helped. Might as well go for the jugular.
I don't really like people.
I mean, they're noisy, and sweaty, and they expect you to make polite conversation and they're so damn boring your brain leaks out of your ears in protest.
I hate small talk. It's a waste of time and energy, and i hate wasting energy. I have so little of it and so much to use it for!
I mean, picture this;on one hand some random guy droning on,making smalltalk so boring it's physically painful, and on the other hand, book 18 of Nora Roberts/J.D Robb Death series(she's written 40 so far and i have 22 to go). Nora Roberts' book, boring drone. Nora Roberts' book, excruciatingly boring drone. What to pick, what to pick. Is that a trick question? I'll take the book over random boring guy any day. I mean, when you think about it,books are so much more interesting than people. They have such fascinating characters, picturesque locations,bea-utiful words, and you want to place that against some mildly sweaty Chike ? A book's gonna win every time. Hands down.

If it was a cute boy though,we-ell,now you're talking. I like looking at cute boys. They're pretty. grin Eyecandy, too. And if he actually has a brain in his head? Lawd have mercy. Intelligent conversation is a BIG plus. HUGE one.

Apart from novels,i tend to get obsessed with t.v show characters. For example,Morgan and Garcia on Criminal Minds. They have such amazing chemistry and i wanted them together sooo bad. . I still do,actually. It got to a point where i'd go on youtube and download loads of Morgan and Garcia videos. I'd read fanfics about them. Hell,i'd write fanfics about them too. I did the same thing with Nbc soapie, days of our lives.

Oh i also have this habit of mumbling to myself. I'm not really mumbling-i'm just acting out a particular scene i'm about to write down. I imagine i look like a mad person some of the time. Lord knows i've gotten really strange looks from random people.

Totally random here, but how many guys chat a girl up with this line: "Can i get to know you?". A guy on my street walked up to me and said that. "Hey fine girl, can i get to know you?",he said. Well,he's got liver. I have to give him that. "Can i get to know you"? How can someone actually use that tired old line in this day an age? Seriously? You know what i wanted to say when he said "Can i get to know you?". I wanted to say;"No,you cannot get to know me. End of" or "I'm sorry,is this the point where i fall into your arms, dazzled by your romantic proposition?" or something equally snarky. It was on the tip of my tongue. But i didn't say that. Momma always said that i should NEVER be rude to toasters. It's a hardship sometimes, but i try to be nice to them, even when i say no. I've never insulted a toaster to his face before,no matter how haggard, ugly, wogly(that's wowo + ugly=wogly,to give you a better idea of how fugly this person was)etc he might be. I don't raise my voice, and i certainly don't do anything to hurt his ego. One has to be careful with such things, afterall. But i still can't get over how someone decides to use "Can i get to know you?" as a pick-up line.

Well yes it's not just because it's sweet,if that was so,cranberry(okay prolly orange)juice would suffice. It does give me a buzz. It's not like i drink a bottle every single day;i usually drink 2 or 3 bottles a week.
I'm not addicted to it,there have been periods when i've gone off it for a while,so i don't see it is a problem.
