PoliticsAtiku Condemns Fresh Boko Haram Killings, Says Tinubu Government Lost Fight by attackgat(op): 8:34pm On Mar 06
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the recent attack by suspected terrorists on a military base and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Ngoshe, in Gwoza Local Government Area, describing the incident as deeply troubling and a reflection of the worsening security situation in the country.

In the statement on Friday, he noted that attack, which occurred in Ngoshe led to the "abduction of more than 100 residents, raising fresh concerns over the safety of civilians in communities affected by insurgency in Borno State and across the wider northeastern region."

In a further reaction to the development, Abubakar expressed alarm over the scale of the incident and criticised what he described as the Federal Government’s response to the growing wave of violent attacks.

“The attack by suspected terrorists on a military base and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, in which over 100 citizens were abducted, is deeply troubling,” he said.

The former vice president also voiced concern over what he characterised as a pattern of inadequate responses to recurring security breaches in several parts of the country.

“Even more disturbing is the apparent indifference of the Federal Government to this incident and to many similar attacks before it,” he stated.

According to him, the continued wave of killings and violent assaults across Nigeria has gradually created a sense of numbness among both government officials and the public.

“The upsurge in violence and killings has become so widespread across the country that both government and society seem to have grown numb to the bloodshed resulting from these assaults,” Abubakar said.

He further criticised the current administration, arguing that it appears to be struggling to maintain control of the security situation while allegedly focusing attention on political rivalries.

“It is unfortunate that the current Federal Government appears to be losing its grip on the fight against terrorism and violent attacks. Instead, it seems more focused on unleashing intense pressure against political opponents and enabling self-serving ethnic militia groups,” he said.

Abubakar also expressed disappointment over what he described as the priorities of those responsible for internal security and the leadership of the ruling party, accusing them of concentrating on political power while citizens continue to face deadly threats.

“It is disheartening that those responsible for internal security, along with the elite of the ruling party, remain preoccupied with consolidating power, while vulnerable civilians and servicemen are being killed,” he added.

While extending sympathy to the families affected by the incident, the former vice president emphasised the need for stronger empathy and decisive action from the government to address the escalating insecurity.

“While I sympathise with the families of the victims of this Ngoshe attack, I must express strong indignation at the government’s evident lack of empathy towards the victims of these increasingly frequent assaults,” he said.

The attack in Ngoshe has added to growing concerns about security challenges in Nigeria’s northeast, where communities continue to grapple with the activities of insurgent groups despite years of military operations aimed at restoring stability to the region.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that a yet-to-be-ascertained number of persons, including soldiers, were killed by militants of the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād, in Borno state.

Multiple security sources told SaharaReporters that Ngoshe town, under Gwoza Local Government Area of the state, came under highly coordinated and simultaneous attacks around 4am on Wednesday, and the terrorists operated till daybreak.

During the incident, the militants invaded a military base, 82 Div TF Battalion under 26 BDE, and launched an assault on a camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the community.

A source added that the terrorists also ransacked the community, looking for soldiers they claimed may be hiding. The gunmen also burnt armoured tanks and military vehicles and made away with unquantifiable ammunition.

CrimeDrug Case Against Abba Kyari Still On Course - NDLEA by attackgat(op): 8:31pm On Mar 05
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reaffirmed that its substantive drug trafficking case against suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, remains firmly on track, clarifying that recent court proceedings discharging him on a separate matter do not affect the ongoing trial.

The agency said the core drug case is scheduled to continue before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, March 16, 2026.

NDLEA’s clarification follows the decision of Justice James Omotosho, who discharged Kyari in a 23-count charge relating to alleged money laundering and non-declaration of assets.

The anti-narcotics agency stressed that the ruling pertains to a different case and should not be confused with the main drug prosecution.

Reacting to inquiries on whether the agency would challenge the ruling, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, explained that the prosecution team has been directed to obtain the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment before determining the next legal step.

He emphasized that the matter decided by Justice Omotosho is distinct from the substantive drug charges pending before Justice Nwite, noting that the latter remains active and unaffected.

The spokesman of the anti-narcotics agency, Babafemi, in a statement on Thursday, said: “First, I need to clarify that the ruling by Justice Omotosho is completely different from the main and substantive drug case which continues before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, March 16, 2026. That one is very much on course.”

He added that the prosecution team would review the detailed judgment upon receipt of the CTC to guide the agency’s management in deciding whether an appeal is warranted.

The development underscores the complex legal battles facing the suspended senior police officer, as the NDLEA maintains its resolve to pursue the substantive drug allegations to their conclusion in court.

PoliticsWhile Politicians Obsess Over 2027,Over 1000 Have Been Killed In 2026- Peter Obi by attackgat(op): 1:25pm On Mar 02
The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said that while politicians obsess with the 2027 general election, over 1,000 Nigerians have been killed in 2026 alone. The former two-term governor of Anambra State made this known in a post on his X handle, saying thousands were also abducted.

Obi tweeted: “It is profoundly disturbing that while we, the politicians, continue to obsess over the 2027 elections—spending our energy scheming about how to capture, grab, and run the next election—the first two months of 2026 have reportedly seen the killing of over 1,000 Nigerians and the abduction of several thousand others.

“This is the painful reality confronting our nation. From Zamfara State to Kwara, Ondo, Kebbi, Edo, Benue, Adamawa, Plateau, and many other states, families have buried loved ones, and communities have been emptied by gunshots and fear.

“In over 25 states across all geopolitical zones this year alone, there have been major violent attacks on innocent citizens, kidnappings by armed bandits, mass shootings, village invasions, and brazen assaults on worshippers and travellers. The scale of bloodshed and the number of deaths in just two months in Nigeria are even worse than what we see in countries officially at war. Yet the urgency with which we discuss these tragedies does not match the urgency of our discussions surrounding zoning formulas, party structures, and campaign strategies.

“This is the tragedy of our politics.

“We debate power sharing while citizens are sharing funeral programs. I watched in tears yesterday as families in the Doruwa Babuje community in Plateau State buried their dead after attacks by armed terrorists, but our media and leaders were focused on discussions about party issues and the 2027 elections, when we aren’t even sure we will be alive to see it, given all the deaths happening in our country today. We strategise about 2027 while Nigerians struggle to survive 2026. This is inhumane.

“We must elevate human life to a sacred status in our national priorities. Leadership is not about winning elections; it is about saving lives. We can, and we must, aspire to a Nigeria devoid of bloodshed—a Nigeria where governance is measured not by political dominance but by the safety and dignity of its people.

“History will not remember how many strategies we perfected for 2027; it will remember whether we acted when Nigerians were dying. We must choose Nigerian lives over politics. We must put Nigerians first.

“A New Nigeria is POssible. – PO.”

PoliticsImmigration Arrests, Extorts Youths Travelling From Kano To Visit Nnamdi Kanu by attackgat(op): 2:35pm On Feb 25
Nigerian Immigration Officers Arrest, Extort Money From Youths Travelling To Visit Nnamdi Kanu, Dump Them In Zamfara

Three Nigerian youths travelling from Kano to Sokoto to visit the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, have accused officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service of arresting, detaining and extorting money from them before abandoning them stranded in Zamfara State.

A source familiar with the incident told SaharaReporters that the travellers were intercepted and held for about seven hours during the journey. A source familiar with the incident told SaharaReporters that the travellers were intercepted and held for about seven hours during the journey.

On our way to visit Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Sokoto we were arrested and detained here for 7hrs, extorted and left us stranded in Zamfara state by Nigeria immigration,” the source said.

A video obtained by SaharaReporters captured moments showing the three youths during their detention by immigration officials.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with SaharaReporters, one of the victims, who identified himself as Cruise Naija, narrated how the incident unfolded on Sunday.

“On Sunday, while travelling from Kano to Sokoto to visit Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, we were stopped by immigration officers at the entrance of Zamfara State. After searching our vehicle, they asked me and my colleague (the shadow dancer) to step down,” he said. According to him, the officers accused them of attempting to travel illegally to Libya despite their explanation that they were heading to Sokoto.

“They accused us of attempting to travel to Libya. We firmly denied this allegation and explained that we were simply on our way to Sokoto. Despite this, they searched our bags and thoroughly examined our phones,” he said.

He added that the situation escalated after officers allegedly discovered photographs of him with activist and politician Omoyele Sowore and other activists on his phone.

“During the search of my phone, they saw photographs of me with Omoyele Sowore and other Nigerian activists. From that moment, they concluded that I am an activist. They immediately seized my phone and refused to allow me access to it,” he said.

The victim alleged that repeated pleas to contact family members or associates were ignored by the officers.

“I pleaded with them to let me make calls so that people would know my whereabouts, but they refused. Instead, they repeatedly warned us about how dangerous the area was,” he added.

He further claimed that the officers demanded large sums of money before allowing them to proceed with their journey.

“We were taken into a room where we met five other people, two young girls and three men. The officers told us that if we wanted to continue our journey, we would have to pay ₦200,000, plus ₦30,000 for transportation to Sokoto,” he said.

According to him, after prolonged arguments, the officers allegedly reduced the demand to ₦50,000, which the travellers still could not afford.

“They continued threatening us, saying bandits could attack at any moment and that the area was unsafe,” he said.

He also alleged that two young female travellers paid ₦230,000 after pressure from the officers.

“I tried to advise them to reconsider… The officers immediately shut me down and warned me not to speak to them. One officer stated that all they cared about was collecting their money, and that whatever happened to the girls afterward was none of their concern,” he alleged.

The victims claimed that the officers later arranged for a truck to transport the girls onward.

Eventually, after continued pressure, the youths said a Point-of-Sale (POS) operator was brought in, and they transferred ₦30,000 before being allowed to leave.

“Shockingly, shortly after leaving the checkpoint, the driver stopped and claimed he had only been given ₦3,000, not ₦30,000. We were left stranded without money and had to start calling people to send us funds so we could continue our journey,” he said.

In January, SaharaReporters reported how the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed an ex parte application filed by the imprisoned leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, seeking his transfer from the Sokoto Correctional Facility.

Justice James Omotosho dismissed the application after Kanu’s lawyer announced his withdrawal from the case.

Kanu’s lawyer, Demdoo Asan, a senior legal officer with the Legal Aid Council, at the resumed hearing of the application on Tuesday, informed the court of his decision to step aside from the matter, citing irreconcilable differences between him and the applicant.

Asan told the court that since the last adjourned date, he had maintained regular telephone communication with Kanu’s relatives, who were expected to visit the Legal Aid Council office to depose to the application.

Suspected Lakurawa Terrorists Kill Dozens In Coordinated Attacks Across Kebbi Communities

At least 34 people were reportedly killed on Wednesday in a spate of coordinated attacks by suspected Lakurawa terrorists across communities in Arewa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kebbi State.

According to security analyst
Bakatsine, on Thursday, the violence, which started in the morning and continued into the afternoon, has left families devastated and forced many residents to flee their homes for safety.

The hardest-hit community was Mamunu, where 16 people were killed. Awashaka lost five youths, while Masama recorded three fatalities. Gorin Dena, Kamzo, Dan Mai Rago, Tungar Bature, and Tungar Tsoho communities each lost two residents in the deadly attacks.

However, by nightfall, fear gripped residents across the wider Kangiwa axis, with many expressing concern over the possibility of further violence.

He explained that the attacks highlight the worsening security situation in Kebbi North Senatorial District.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said this on his Facebook wall:

This morning, I was in Gwarinpa with other leaders of our party, the African Democratic Congress ADC), including my brother, H.E. Peter Obi, ahead of the Saturday, February 21 FCT Council elections

We have been speaking with voters about why this election is important and why ADC candidates should be the right choice

This election is very important. It will say a lot about how ready the managers of our elections are to deliver free, fair and credible polls. It will also say a lot about how ready people are to chase the APC out.

I have encouraged voters to come out in large numbers to vote for ADC candidates across all FCT Councils in the elections.

Our party has fielded candidates with competence, capacity and character to offer quality leadership across local councils in Abuja
Voters have the responsibility to defy all forms of intimidation, and make the right choice.

The APC-led Federal Government under Bola Tinubu has failed citizens on many fronts. Ilt has failed to fix the economy. It has failed to fix our education. It has failed to keep our country safe. It has pushed the citizens of a rich nation into deeper poverty. It has allowed criminal elements to hold citizens to ransome

APC must be voted out in the coming elections, and we should start with the FCT elections! -AA[

Politics2027: We Must Not Sleep Until We Remove This Government — El-Rufai Tells Atiku by attackgat(op): 4:54pm On Feb 13
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that the opposition must remain resolute in its efforts to unseat the government of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, following an alleged attempt by security agencies to detain him at an airport.

Addressing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar when he visited him, El-Rufai said the incident strengthened his determination to work toward Tinubu’s removal from office.

“Your Excellency, I assure you that what happened today has further reinforced my belief that we must work hard. We must not sleep between now and March 2027 until we remove this tyrant from office,” he said.

He described the airport episode as “unfortunate, totally unnecessary, and probably criminal,” alleging that the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) used operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) to detain him and hand him over to the anti-graft agency without prior invitation.

El-Rufai stated that while the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had previously invited him for questioning, his lawyer informed the commission that he was out of the country and would appear on Monday at 10 a.m. He maintained that he had received no communication from the ICPC before the airport incident.

The former governor further alleged that the ICPC acted on the orders of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, accusing the government of using security agencies for political purposes. He warned that such actions undermine democratic institutions and claimed the administration was attempting to retain power at all costs.

His words: “Your Excellency, I assure you that what happened today has further reinforced my belief that we must work hard, we must not sleep between now and March 2027 until we remove this tyrant from office.

“Your Excellency what happened at the airport today as you correctly observed is quite unfortunate, total unnecessary and probably criminal as well. “This is because agencies have rules of engagement and all I asked for was give me a letter of invitation and I will visit your office.

“But it turned out that it was the ICPC that procured the DSS to abduct me and hand me over to them. The ICPC has never contacted me or sort to invite me up to the point we were at the airport.

“The EFCC had written, inviting me but I was out of the country, my lawyer wrote to them that I will return and be there on Monday at 10am.

“ICPC I have never heard anything from them. We understand that it was the ICPC not EFCC that was responsible for what happened.

ICPC chairman was acting on direct orders from Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security of Adviser. We have reduced security agencies to be arms of a political party and a government that knows its unelectable and wants to remain in power at all cost”.

PoliticsBandits Kidnap 9 Worshippers From A Catholic Church In Benue State by attackgat(op): 1:00pm On Feb 10
Residents of Utonkon District in the Ado Local Government Area of Benue State have been left broken and traumatised following the abduction of nine worshippers from Saint John’s Catholic Church, Ojije.

The worshippers were abducted on Sunday night when gunmen stormed the church premises during a vigil, an incident that has deepened fear and despair across the community.

A former councillor who represented Ukwuenyo Ward in the Ado local government legislative council, Emmanuel Udah, confirmed the incident on Monday, according to Channels TV.

He described the situation as a devastating blow to an already traumatised population.

Udah was quoted as saying the attack was “a targeted and planned crime against the Church, when innocent worshippers were at the most sacred ground, a place of worship, a place for peace, and refuge, only to be abducted, while praying, vulnerable and unarmed”.

According to him, the abduction has shattered the sense of security in Utonkon, leaving families devastated and residents living in constant fear.

“The people of Utonkon are living in fear, families are broken, children are traumatised, farmers, traders, worshippers, are all trapped as no one feels safe anymore in our land,” Udah said.

He noted that beyond the immediate victims, the entire community is suffering psychological and emotional distress, as daily activities have been disrupted by fear of further attacks.

Udah lamented what he described as continued neglect of rural communities in Benue State, despite repeated reports of violence and abductions.

“This incident is not isolated; it reflects a growing pattern of insecurity that rural communities in Benue State continue to endure in silence and neglect. We are raising our voices because silence will kill us all,” he stated.

Calling for urgent intervention, the former councillor urged authorities to strengthen security in the area and take decisive steps to prevent further trauma to residents.

He also appealed for the immediate rescue of the nine worshippers abducted from the church and called on religious bodies and the international community to intervene.

“Religious bodies, civil society organisations, human-rights groups, and the international community should speak out and stand with us.

“We are not asking for sympathy alone. We are asking for attention, protection, and justice. Let the world know that Utonkon matters,” he added.

Confirming the abduction, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, Udeme Edet, said nine worshippers were taken during the attack.

She disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, had deployed tactical units in collaboration with local vigilantes to track down the abductors and rescue the victims, adding that the police were on the trail of the perpetrators.

PoliticsPoliceman, 16 Villagers Killed In Benue Market Attack by attackgat(op): 11:22am On Feb 05
At least 17 people, including a Mobile Police officer, have been reportedly killed following an attack by armed invaders at a rural market in Abande settlement of Mbaikyor Ward, Turan district, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.

Locals told our correspondent on the telephone that the attack, which occurred on Tuesday, was carried out during the Abande market day, when residents were buying and selling goods. A former Supervisory Councillor in Kwande LGA, Akerigba Lawrence, also said the attackers opened fire on traders and residents, killing several people on the spot. He said shops were also looted, with traders alleging that cash and goods worth more than N150 million were taken before the entire market was set ablaze.

Lawrence explained that as of about 11:55pm on Tuesday, bodies of some of the victims had been evacuated to Jato-Aka by personnel of the Mobile Police Force stationed in the area.

He listed those confirmed dead to include Iornunbe Agba, Chia Kile, Terseer Shenge, Mker Ugbe, Emmanuel Agba Ortswen, Gbinde, and a Mobile Police officer who was the unit commander on duty at the time of the attack, among others.

The former local government official noted that several other residents were still missing as of press time.

Lawrence added that the latest attack has heightened fears among residents of Turan and neighbouring communities over what he described as worsening insecurity in the area.
The affected Abande community is close to Anwase, another community where more than 28 people were reportedly killed during attacks on Christmas Day in 2024.

Residents further alleged that since the beginning of the year, repeated attacks in the area have claimed more than 76 lives, including those of security personnel.

The residents said the Abande community and surrounding settlements, which lie close to the Nigeria–Cameroon border, have little visible presence of Nigerian security forces.

Meanwhile, the Police Spokesperson for the Benue State Command, DSP Udeme Edet, has confirmed four deaths in the attack.

“On 3rd February, 2026, at about 5:30pm, the Divisional Police Officer, Jato-Aka, received a distress call that suspected armed herder bandits, in large numbers, had attacked police personnel stationed at Abande Community as well as members of the community.

“During the ensuing confrontation while police operatives were responding to the distress call, one Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to 13 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Makurdi, who was on special duty at Abande Community, was fatally injured.

“Regrettably, four members of the community also lost their lives as a result of the attack by the bandits.

“Following the incident, combined teams of police operatives and other security agencies have been mobilised to the area to secure the community, conduct a thorough search, and forestall further breakdown of law and order. The deceased persons have been recovered and deposited at the mortuary,” she said.

Edet added that in response to the attack, the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Ifeanyi Emenari, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to immediately proceed to Jato-Aka with additional Mobile Force personnel and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to coordinate intensive operations, track the perpetrators, and effect their arrest.

PoliticsPHOTOS: Empty Streets As Anambra Residents Observe Sit-at-home by attackgat(op): 8:39pm On Feb 02
Although normal commercial activities resumed on Monday at the Onitsha Main Market, the Indigenous People of Biafra’s Monday sit-at-home order left empty streets in parts of Anambra, with banks, schools, motor parks, and filling stations closed and roads deserted.

The traders at the Onitsha Main Market resumed business activities after a one-week shutdown, following directives from Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo.

The market has been inactive on Mondays since the Indigenous People of Biafra-directed sit-at-home order began in August 2021. Soludo ordered the closure of the market last Monday after traders failed to comply with the state government’s directive to disregard the Monday sit-at-home order.

However, our correspondent observed that major roads in Onitsha, such as Onitsha-Owerri Road, Upper-Iweka, Onitsha-Awka-Enugu Road, and Onitsha-Oba-Nnewi roads, remained deserted on Monday.

The roads leading to the Ochanja market were also deserted, as residents stayed off the roads, while some gathered at various locations to discuss matters of interest. This was unlike other days, when the roads would be very busy, and trading and other activities would be taking place.

Powerful said, “The Indigenous People of Biafra confirms total and overwhelming compliance with the sit-at-home directive issued across Biafraland. This historic show of unity has once again demonstrated that the deep love, loyalty, and resolve of the Biafran people toward Mazi Nnamdi Kanu cannot be broken by threats, intimidation, or state-sponsored coercion.

“From Omambala to Onitsha and across the South-East, the people have spoken with one voice. The land of Eri, Nri, Igbo-Ukwu, and Uzo-Igbo has reaffirmed its historic role as the conscience and backbone of the Igbo nation. Our people are born free—and will not submit to fear.

“This peaceful but firm compliance is a clear message: the Biafran people will not be forced to abandon their leader or betray their collective will. The love for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not a weakness to be envied or attacked—it is a strength that binds our people and fuels our lawful demand for justice and freedom.

“IPOB remains committed to order, discipline, and respect for institutions, but we will resist every attempt to intimidate, humiliate, or enslave our people. The continued illegal detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu only reinforces the legitimacy of this resistance.”

PoliticsRe: Why Doesn’t Peter Obi Live In Anambra State? by attackgat: 8:26pm On Feb 02
Kushites:
I've never seen where a governor rules a state for nearly a decade, completes his term, and flees from the state to live in another state. In this case, Lagos.

It's extraordinary.

My question is this: Is it that Obi is not happy or satisfied with the work he did as governor, such that the idea of living there feels degrading to him?

Or is there something I'm missing?

Why is he running away from his kinsmen?
Who said Peter Obi doesn't live in Anambra? Anambra is the only place he has a personal house.

Igbo Presidency, Hausa/Fulani Presidency, Yoruba Presidency

We have had all of them, where is Nigeria today? No where!

But having said that, I want Yorubas to understand that we Igbos do not like Tinubu, same as we never liked Buhari

In 2027, the Igbo nation will join hands with others to vote out the monumental failure called Bola Tinubu
PoliticsRe: Would The Igbo's In Diaspora Also Observe Sit At Home On Feb 2 by attackgat: 11:39am On Feb 01
helinues:
It seems majority of the Igbo's who are insisting on sit at home are mostly abroad based.

Would they also be observing sit at home in their respective foreign countries including those who work with big companies?

I am just curious to know. Because if people did not sit at home, what would happen?
There are millions of people in IDP camps all over Nigeria, half a million in Benue State alone. People who have lost all hope of ever sitting in their homes. This one doesn't care about them, he cares more about those who can still sit in homes

I laugh in Chinese about this 'one Nigeria'

If Soludo thought that shutting down the biggest Market in Nigeria was going cow down traders, the reverse is happening in Onitsha. Traders protested against Soludo while singing Nnamdi Kanu solidarity songs. Many of the traders also vowed to keep observing the sit at home every Monday until the IPOB leader was released, whether Soludo likes it or not.

PoliticsBenue Community Raises Alarm Over The Presence Of 100 Armed Fulani Herdsmen by attackgat(op): 10:07pm On Jan 26
Residents of Akpachi community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State have raised grave security and humanitarian concerns over the presence of more than 100 allegedly armed Fulani herders.

The residents alleged that the armed Fulani militia are currently laying siege to Akpachi, Otukpo, and Ugobia communities, reportedly positioning themselves in nearby bushes and setting up ambushes ahead of possible attacks sparking widespread fear among locals.

SaharaReporters gathered that on January 10, the herders invaded farmlands belonging to Barrister Godwin Obla (SAN), burning and destroying crops spread across over 152 hectares of land. The affected farmlands reportedly included rice, cassava, plantain, and cashew plantations.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, forcing many residents to abandon their farms and remain indoors for fear of being attacked.

Confirming the incident, the traditional ruler of Akpachi, Chief Samuel Alachenu Udenyi, described the destruction as “barbaric and unacceptable,” issuing an ultimatum for the herders to vacate the community immediately.

Speaking during an on-the-spot assessment of the damaged farmlands, Chief Udenyi disclosed that more than 152 hectares of farmland were affected by fire and grazing activities allegedly carried out by the herders.

“We are aware that they have armed militia in the bush. We know they are there, but because of that, we will not run away from this community,” the chief said.

“It is better to stay and defend our land than to be called cowards tomorrow.”

According to him, preliminary reports showed that over 42 hectares of rice farmland were razed, including harvested rice still under chaff. In addition, 54 hectares of cassava farms were destroyed, while about two hectares each of cashew and banana plantations were also burnt.

“So far, these are the damages recorded on just one farm. If you move around to other farms, you will not believe the scale of destruction,” he said.

Chief Udenyi stressed that Akpachi community is not a designated grazing area and insisted that no land was allocated to the herders by the community.

“Our land is not a grazing field. We did not give land to anyone to stay here, yet they are grazing freely on our farms,” he said.

He further revealed that the security situation has worsened with the kidnapping of a community member from a farm, who remains missing.

“Up till now, we have not seen the person, and no explanation has come from the herders’ leadership,” he added.

The traditional ruler warned that the destruction of farmlands is already crippling food production and threatening livelihoods in the area.

“Hunger is increasing day by day. Women cannot go to the farms to harvest their crops. Cassava and beans farms have been destroyed some by fire, others by cattle trampling and feeding on them,” he said.

Addressing concerns about regional collaboration, Chief Udenyi confirmed that discussions are ongoing with neighboring traditional rulers facing similar challenges.

“I have been in talks with another chief, and he shares the same view. We do not want them on our land,” he said.

However, he expressed confusion over who granted the herders access to the disputed land, noting that both Akpachi and neighbouring Otukpo communities deny allocating land to them.

“They are staying between our land and Otukpo. Otukpo says they did not give them land, and we did not. So we want to find out who did. Whoever gave them this land must be exposed,” he said.

Chief Udenyi also alleged that security agencies are aware of the armed presence in nearby bushes, adding that mobile police officers have been deployed in the area.

“They should know that we are aware they have people in the bush with guns. Whatever happens to us, we know where it is coming from,” he warned.

He rejected compensation offers for the destroyed farmlands, insisting that evacuation not monetary settlement is the solution.

“We don’t want compensation. Someone destroys a farm worth millions and offers ₦40,000 this is unacceptable,” he said.

The chief lamented the deterioration in relations with herders over the years.

“The Fulani we cohabited with years ago are different from the ones we have now. Farms were not destroyed then,” he said.

He called on the herders to vacate Akpachi land immediately to allow peace to return to the community.

PoliticsBiafra And Oduduwa Agitators Form "CODES", Coalition For De-amalgation In The US by attackgat(op): 10:03pm On Jan 24
United States – The Coalition for De-Amalgamation and Security (CODES), a broad alliance of indigenous civil forces and ethnic nationalities, has declared that Nigeria has become structurally unviable under its present political arrangement, insisting that peaceful self-determination offers the most realistic path to security, justice and lasting peace.

The position was outlined in a communiqué released on Friday at the end of a world conference and international press briefing held via Zoom. During the briefing, the coalition accused the Nigerian state of a fundamental failure to protect lives and uphold justice amid escalating violence, displacement and humanitarian distress.

According to CODES, Nigeria’s continued existence is sustained “not by truth, justice or the consent of the people, but by systemic denial and institutionalised falsehood,” a situation it says has fuelled insecurity and eroded public trust in the state.

The communiqué was jointly signed by leading figures from the Oduduwa (Yorùbá) and Biafran (Igbo) self-determination movements. Signatories include Prof. Banji Akintoye, leader of the Oduduwa (Yoruba Nation Self-Determination Movement); Chief Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho), leader of the Yoruba National Community Defence; Architect George Akinola, deputy leader of the Yoruba Self-Determination Movement (Homeland); and Dr. Kayode Emola, deputy leader of the movement in the Diaspora.

Also endorsing the statement were Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB); Mazi Tony Nwisi, chairman of the Igbo Global Network–IPOB; as well as Mazi Emmanuel Kanu, Mazi Ositadimma Igenu and Prof. Chinedu Agbodike, all acting under the umbrella of CODES.

Addressing international media, the coalition described the alliance between the Oduduwa and Biafra nations as historic and driven by urgent security concerns, stressing that the collaboration is neither extremist nor violent.

“Our partnership reflects not extremism, but deep frustration with deception and insecurity, and a lawful insistence on dignity, safety and political consent,” the coalition said.

CODES noted that its De-Amalgamation Congress remains open to other indigenous nations across Nigeria, describing the initiative as a non-violent, lawful and internationally recognised exercise of the right to self-determination.

The coalition accused successive Nigerian governments of concealing mass atrocities and misleading both citizens and the international community about the scale of violence across the country. It argued that this culture of denial has displaced accountability and stripped the state of moral legitimacy, creating a situation where “fear has replaced citizenship.”

Tracing Nigeria’s instability to the 1914 colonial amalgamation and decades of post-independence centralisation, CODES maintained that the country was formed without the consent of its constituent peoples and has been sustained largely through coercion rather than agreement.

“A state founded without consent cannot indefinitely survive against the will of its peoples,” the communiqué stated, adding that years of corruption, political exclusion and persistent insecurity have destroyed confidence in the federal arrangement.

The statement highlighted recurring violence in the Middle Belt, the South-East and other regions, alleging state complicity, selective enforcement of the law or outright inaction in the face of attacks by armed groups.

“Across vast areas of Nigeria, communities have been violently displaced from their ancestral lands, yet perpetrators are rarely prosecuted and victims are seldom resettled,” the coalition said, describing the situation as an existential security crisis marked by terrorism, mass displacement and selective justice.

CODES also condemned what it described as the persecution of non-violent self-determination advocates, noting that while armed actors often operate with impunity, peaceful activists face aggressive state action.

“While violent actors roam free, peaceful advocates such as Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Chief Sunday Igboho are pursued with extraordinary state resources,” the coalition said, arguing that this selective application of the law has further damaged public confidence in the state.

Invoking international law, CODES said its demands are grounded in global legal frameworks, including the United Nations Charter, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

The coalition warned that peaceful self-determination represents the only immediate, non-violent escape from a looming national catastrophe, cautioning that a full-scale conflict in Nigeria could trigger severe humanitarian and migration crises with global repercussions.

Among its demands, CODES called for international recognition of the Biafra and Oduduwa nations, the immediate release of individuals detained solely for self-determination advocacy, and an end to the pursuit of Chief Sunday Igboho. I

t also urged the establishment of United Nations-recognised referendum processes for indigenous nations seeking self-rule, international investigations into alleged mass killings and state complicity, and urgent protection for vulnerable and displaced communities.

The coalition emphasised that the Biafra–Oduduwa alliance is not a call to violence.

“This is not a declaration of war, but a declaration of truth, dignity and peaceful intent,” the communiqué stated.
“Forced unity has failed. Silence has failed. Repression has failed. Peaceful self-determination remains the only path to lasting peace, stability and regional security.”
