Time2win: You shouldn't have come back home unless finance was the issue. You should have continued, get admit from the new schools then ask the school to transfer your sevis record. Right now, can you still resume in the old school since your visa is still active? If not, you have to attend a new interview and explain to the V.O so you don't have issues at point of entry I just didn't want to waste time and money on a course I was no longer interested in and a school that couldn't do for me, what I wanted. I admit the decision might have been hasty on my part, but it has already happened. It's way forward I'm looking for now. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll go and prepare for a new interview. |

Johnolukolade: Let me link your case with this- If anyone has their visas approved for Lincoln University and after the interview, they got a better offer from let's say Gatech, it's always advisable to reapply for a new F1 visa. So, in your case, if you want to pick an OPT option later in the future, it's advisable that you reapply for the visa. I hope you find this helpful. Thank you Master John |

Johnolukolade: You could have applied as a transfer student instead of coming to Nigeria. Yes. I am aware of that. The circumstances wasn't favorable for such a thing at the time. Besides, I am home now. So, I just need advice in the next steps please. Thank you. For those asking for a clearer picture: 1. I spent 1 semester in school 2. I informed the school about my intentions before I left. 3. I left ASAP, so I didn't have any days of illegal presence. 4. I am not going back to the same school 5. I am aware that I could have transferred, but I didn't. I know, my bad. I just can't begin to explain the circumstance. So, please help a sister out |

Walspring: Your visa is valid for 2 years and if you defer before leaving the school and is not over a year you don’t need to apply for another visa again.
But contact US embassy to find out if the rules has change or not.
Lastly the nunber you sent to me via email, I thought it’s for you because I called it and the person say he didn’t know auditmonkey your user name. Thank you for the advice. I am sorry about the call, I put his phone number because I thought you needed it for the payment. The person isn't on Nairaland and he doesn't know my username. I just used the plentiful resources available to us on this thread to help him because he was panicking about the SEVIS payment and the $350 increase. I hope you understand. |

Time2win: When did you return back home? Did the school refuse to transfer your sevis to the new school or you just assumed? No. The school didn't refuse to transfer my SEVIS, I did not initiate the SEVIS transfer process at all because I didn't have admission to the schools I wanted to transfer to. I came home way before school was back from break, I informed the school what I was doing and I came back home. No illegal days or anything. I made sure of that |

First, thanks walspring for helping my friend pay his SEVIS fee.
My situation is kind of unique, and I'd appreciate any insight.
I was given an F1 VISA last spring for a masters in Finance at a 'not target' college. I have to admit, I wasn't aware of how competitive finance jobs were and how much focus was placed on target schools. I spent one semester in school, and decided to change school and course. It was too late for a transfer so I came back home.
Now, I have admission for a better school (UTDallas) for MS Accounting. Got the Dean's excellence scholarship and hoping to get the GA I applied for(which seems impossible at the moment).
My question is, do I need to apply for a new visa interview?
What is the procedure for a situation like mine?
Please share if you have any insight
Thanks |

In fact, the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland and Security have designated the Centre for information of the University as a National Centre of Academic excellence in cyber defense research. The computer science three-pronged motto of world class faculty, world class education and world class research, coupled with the presence of three robust data science laboratories makes KSU a great platform for me to… (VO cuts in) VO: Tell me about your background Me: I hold a Bachelors of Science degree and majored in Statistics and Computer Science with a first class honors. I intend to achieve this by integrating my knowledge of statistics and computer programming VO: Are you married? Hi I have some questions but I am not sure if this is the appropriate thread for it. Forgive me if it's wrong, or help me if you can please.
I will be attending UTDallas in the fall and I am currently making up my budget.
1. Will it be possible to get a studio apartment for $500 a month in that area? Or do I have to get a shared apartment for that price range?
2. Is it possible to get a car for $4k-$5k. A reliable one.
Thank you. |

Thank you for taking the time to give this response. I actually thought the same thing but I just wanted to be sure. Time2Smile: Ok. If I will be honest with you, funding is not readily available for Social Sciences and Arts especially at Masters level. You already have in state tuition which cuts your tuition in half, and the truth is that that there are a lot of Chinese and Indian students ready to pay the fees.
However, the good thing is that JSOM is highly ranked, has excellent alumni network and really help with job placement. Dallas economy is really doing well and there are a number of big companies with headquarters or substantial presence in Dallas.
I checked the website and it seemed only enrolled students can apply for a Graduate Assistantship. I think you can try to apply once you get your net ID and password if you accept the admission. But am afraid you it is really after a semester that you will be seriously considered for an assistantship. The other option you can explore is on campus job, and even those are few and far between. So, I will advise you to consider your options carefully. I really should be asleep. |

Time2Smile: What are the funding options mentioned on the Department website. Is your program under JSOM(Javel Jindal School of Management)and is it classified as STEM ? Thanks for the response. My program is under JSOM. It's not STEM. On the website, the scholarship and assistanships are mentioned. However, it seems that the admission application, scholarship and assistanship require separate applications. I submitted a separate application (essay) for the scholarship. But I do not know how to go about the application for assistanship and I don't understand the rules as stated on the website. |

Any UTDallas alumni or student here? I have a few questions about applying for assistanships.
I have been admitted for the MS accounting program and awarded the Deans Scholarship($1000 plus in-state tuition waiver) for Fall 2019.
I want to know if I can start applying for assistanships now, or do I have to wait till after first semester first? And if anybody can explain the process, I'd be extremely grateful. |

Hey guys.
I just got my admit decision from UT Dallas for MS in Accounting (Fall 2019). I am still expecting a response from UMD and TAMU-Commerce.
I have searched online and LinkedIn for placement statistics for UTDallas but I can't find much except what's on the school website.
Please tell me what you know about Big 4(audit) recruitments on the UTD campus (internship/full-time).
Is it worth getting a loan for?
Thank you.

I found this thread last night and I haven't stopped till I read everything.
I'm applying for fall 2019 too and 2 of 4 schools I applied to are in Texas.
I have completed my other applications but Texas A&M university - commerce is the one giving me headache now. I applied on the apply Texas portal, but I haven't been able to upload anything.
Has anybody applied there before, can you give me a few pointers?
I'm applying for accounting BTW |

Thank you for the response. I'll look into sending my transcript to Tamuc immediately. Ubah1: 1. Yes, Texas A&M University-Commerce now requires WES Evaluation.
2. If you get a Teaching assistantship/Research Assistantship position at Texas A&M University-Commerce, your tuition fee will be waived and some stipend paid to you. There are several type of funding in Texas A&M University-Commerce like the Julie Gouch scholarship, this scholarship if awarded qualifies you to pay fees as in-state student thereby reducing over 50% of the fees.
As for the schools you applied to, wake forest and Williams & Mary college are top ranked schools, your GPA is not competitive for such school. They require minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 |

Hello everyone.
I am applying for Masters in Accounting in the US. I have some questions about applying to Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Is there anybody who has studied there before that can answer some questions please?
1. Do they require WES evaluation for the MSA? (the application requirement page and the applytexas portal says no, but the Graduate student services coordinator who I emailed said I need to send a WES evaluation)
2. How is funding over there? Is there a possibility of full tuition waiver?
3. Can anybody explain the assistanship policy? I read it and it left me more confused than before.
I have 3.03/5 GPA (Economics) , 311 GRE (161 V) and 107 TOEFL (all 28 except speaking 23).
Do you think my profile is competitive for the program?
Other schools I've applied to are: 1. UT Dallas 2. College of William and Mary 3. Wake forest University 4. Bentley University 5. UMD |
