Those guys are expert like Dominic Toretto of FAST N FURIOUS...Probably he may have been warned not to try that with the Lexus(as such donut oversteer put a lot of strain on the cars chassis and drive train, perhaps the Lexus may not have survived it like others who were build for that. Remember she is just a Toyota mimicking the kings with built for luxury and manageable performances to get into the leak, so she better watch the kings do their thing.

@auhanson, I could use some advice here. Am a huge fan of yours. Driving home today my '94 w202 won't shift to 3rd gear, it revs high (as in neutral) and comes back to normal after some seconds. During the last oil change this month, the lub guy told me the transmission oil level is fine. Any idea what the problem could be? Counting on your wealth of experience.

I am so sorry my dear, i haven't been here for centuries...You could have PM me. I believe yo would have fixed your car by now by transmission swap or repairs.

I expected the Lexus to do the oversteer donut too! Perhaps, there could have been a mechanical breakdown/ lost of control, reason why?

I can't go beyond 60mph, my steering vibrates at that point until it gets down to 59mph. What could be the cause?

Secondly, I also noticed some sort of smoke which normally comes up once in a while, especially when I start the engine. On the long run it disappears as if nothing ever happened.
I met my mechanic and I explained the situation to him. So he said the valve seal is responsible.

Take the car to the pit go under it and physically examine the thyroid ends , centre thyroid and the stearing kits , use your hands to shake those bushings wella. you will definitely see the issue. Also, check your tires to make sure you dont have any bulge on any of them

As for the smokes that usually disappears check your exhaust to see if there is any place water leaks into it else take your mechanic advice.

Also, you may clean your combustion chamber thoroughly with the air filter and pvc, and observe it again if it does that.

Could anyone there help me out. I recently bought a MB C240 4matic, I was using it quite ok. I came to realize that sometimes the gear will stuck on the 3rd, without changing transmission. I have to switch it off completely, and on again before it works normally again. I took it to the mechanic which he recommend a flush out of the gearbox and a change of the filter and a new transmission oil, which I did. The problem still persist up till now. This is a car I bought and starting to love. And now this. Pls someone should help recommend what next to do. Thanks.

Merc with gear issues, If you had a star scanner that would have been the best bet for such gear issue, if your oil is gauged well.

However , the problem may be electrically related 90% of the times; things like the TCM (transmission control module) under your dash may start misbehaving. If you have a spare one just swap and see if the problems is resolved; it could even be your 3rd gear shifting solenoid or conductor plate or the electrical connector cable to the conductor plate. Things like this must be scanned first with the proper scanner before making any attempt, else you complicate issues.

My Bro, car prices are relative, i may buy for 2 naira another buy 2.5naira. I always feel cheated & demoralised to be told that the price is 4 naira after having purchased it for 3.5 naira, while i was shopping i didn"t see it any lesser. It is always better to receive such counsel before purchases but not after in order not to demoralised the fellows happiness. Just my opinion anyway.

When comparing compare in their level, dont carry a compact sedan to compare with sport coupe, compare such with the likes of AMG GTS, c63 s amg etc then come back and propound your argument. My Bros, those cars are wonderful rides they are mobile computers in action(numerous microprocessors at every module) hence the acronym over engineered-the thing that get me excited about the car, but if you are not a fan of such heavy microchips engineering , i will advice that you back off to avoid regrets.

For economy, i bet to tell u they are better than those data we got online.

For durability, they are da bomb, if you don't allow the microprocessors & sensors mess you up. Secrete, have a good scanner or a scanner friend, i don't mean those cheap scanners.

For speed and handling , no other rival, not even the almighty BMW. Some cars have speed but not handling but these ones have it all, both fifty-fifty.

Also, i forgot to say that everything is fixable, even by DIY. It can't be too bad to redeem.

Such a lovely ride.

On my way back from the owner's place I saw coolant level low on the dash. Further investigation revealed that water was boiling over for the radiator in steam form. It occurred 3 times again after refilling the radiator. My Kazeem says it's the water pump. Previous owner said he changed water pump two months ago. Could it be that the water pump earlier changed was faulty or there are other underlying issues causing overheating. What are the things I should look out for in dealing with the issue. Thanks guys. My guy don't panic nor get perturb, whatever issue you have there i will help you fix it at the barest minimal cost. It looks like your top gasket is burnt. The owner is not revealing the truth to you. You could take advantage of that at purchasing price. If the water pump had failed sometime ago and he had been using it under that condition that could burn the top. I am not saying you should rush and change the top yet , because the thermostat & clogged/leaked radiator can also act that way, but most likely is the top.

The top gasket is just 10k, and water pump 9k, only worry for the labour and who can actually handle it, because there is real work there in bringing that top out.Someone who is good at handling tools can do it but only with a lot of guide/orientation, because he would definitely have to learn new things there With a little more than ordinary mechanical tools, he will have to bring down the entire front compartment alongside the radiator and fan, every goddamn thing there and the side chambers housing the plug coils then the top will be lifted up from the piston compartment. This will even help you clean up things there. The timing of the engine here must be observed, it's even easier to calculate than in w202. Where is your location? Keep the car for now at home. The work may look big but trust me it's a cheap labour when DIY.

Just bought a used c180 esprit manual drive on boxing day, I previously used a honda baby boy manual drive (a fan of manual trans)

I want to experience the Benz feel too. Serviced already, but with visco 2000 50w! Feel bad already, the seller kept hammering I use visco 2000. Also, the blower/fan is not working on the dashboard. I had a rewire inspect it and he said the fan is bad.

I've learnt a lot from going tru all 11 pages, however, I'm a newbie and can just go about tampering with parts yet. I still need to use the mechos but supervise them based on info I get here.

Also, its been difficult getting the car into my compound. There's dry redsand in front of our gate and the back tires keep screeching and blowing dust when I try to drive in, and the tyres keep digging on the spot.

The Babyboy easily drove in over the sand without any issue. Is the Benz underpowered or what? Or is it because it's a "back axle?" Please I really need help on this!!! People had to push the car before I could climb and drive in for two days now.

I know its been a while since the main actors commented here, but PLEASE I NEED INPUTS from guys here.

Hello ehizario2012, sorry that you are experiencing this too. Infact almost all the MB sold by Nigerians suffer this issue, most pronounce in the c180(small engine) and magnify by your w50 oil viscosity or weight.

What you are suffering is power loss due to enough carbon build in your engine as a result of, dirty air filter, over dirty throttle body and PVC and MAF if yours has it, then compounded by halfblock nuzzles of your injector system and maybe leak plug wires as well.

Check the above mention items and you will be fine. I will advice that you replace these items by direct "belgium" spares the cheap way to go and you would be so impressed by your MB, the kind of power it can muscle out .

Then regularly clean your combustion chambers to keep the power going .

As for the plug wires, test in the dark if you see sign of sparks in that bay at night know that they are leaking, physical examination would expose the obvious ones but not the so obvious. Infact, at each point you do one of these things you will see improvement in power, but i implore you to do all to enjoy full power, because your car has lost so much power already.

For the oil if you cannot afford the synthetic (mobil 1 0w40 or Total qaurtz 10w40 etc) you may go with mineral oil for example Total classic SAE40 but never 20w50 of any oil, and you will feel the car lighter in weight than with your previous oil. Make sure you change this oil within 3 month interval or within 3000km , which ever that come first. Hello Owners of Car with Class and Prestige, I was just cruising Home when my AC stopped working and the fan alone was working blowing just air, after some time I noticed that the main Engine Fan blade is on high speed and never stopped ,

I have taken the car to AC tech, and he said the AC Power Board just by the Front passenger seat is faulty, I couldn’t change immediately because of the cost but he said it can be Fixed, he took it for fixing and after the AC started working , the AC is working now with condition, It stopped every 6.10 Pm till the next day before it starts working again.

The main Engine Fan Blade since then with start just 20 Secs after starting the car But will not reduce to Low speed or stop until you switch off the engine.

I have done checks by both Electrician and the AC tech, all they could say to me is that I should Change the AC board.
Please could any body say anything about this and how much and where can I get the Board.

Hello Awalla, before you start changing expensive things, though i would not doubt your electrician(because it is his profession) know the following things first:

When there is no signal between your radiator fan and the ECU/ECM your fan will start spinning in high mode as the default in order to prevent overheat until the fan itself will burn out overtime if not fixed.

You should rather ask why there is no signal between your ECU/ECM with your radiator fan control module:
i)Well, it could be a very simple and cheap thing like your coolant temperature sensor(you could find a good one to test before
replacing it.
this is usually the commonest unknown factor here)
ii)It could be a fuse or relay , if your relay is stuck up it may behave the same way, but i don't thing this is your case, though it is not bad to
check your fan relay or fuse as it will cost you nothing to do that.
iii)It could also be that your relay on the fan is stuck on high speed , in this case the fan would have to be changed as the control module and
fan are sold together. Most time people spend this kind of money changing the fan but the problem still persist to tell you that it was not
the culprit. My candid advice to you is to test (i) above before your change your ecm, i believe that's what your electrician mean by fan
board, as bad ecm can also cause this but first check link between the ecm and the radiator fan , that is the coolant temperature sensor
and the wiring along this part. I hope this will help you.

The rack cost about 85k over here , but simple fix on the seal(its the seal that usually leaks) in the rack by a good techi could cost just 6k. but be mindful of the pump too , inspect to fix as well if it is leaking , else you will just be going through the cycle of fixing rack/pump every now and then. Check my previous post. The pump cost about 15k, not really sure.

People who don't know jack about Benz are forming experts in Benz matters.

Many of "The experts" we have here will ask you to use Toyota coolant for your Benz but will turn around and tell you to stick to OEM engine oil grin
Do they even know the right oil...today is 0w30, 2moro is 10w40.

My brother , a stitch in time saves nine. Thank God that MB engine could stand all these stuffs thrown at them , of cause , VW and Kia, Hyundae, etc may not be able to do so, hence engine swap now and then . Haven't you wonder why we are fun of engine swap? I have never changed any of my Benz's engine. Those things are suppose to run a lifetime of the car, if not for the use of wrong oil viscosity.

Higher oil viscosity have higher frictional level, hence higher drag coefficient , the effect may not happen immediately but over time, in some cars it does happen sooner than expected. The higher oil viscosity than the manufacturers prescription, the oil may not be able to penetrate the tiny crevices of the crankcase easily hence, your guess is as good as mind when practice continuously over time. Your qualified mech can not be more qualified than the car manufacturers. Some years ago VW owners learnt this in a hard way.

Do one simple experiment, at same level of operation try your 20w40 observe your rpm and drag coefficient at take off and at normal drive , flush it out and use any w40 and try same experiment come and honestly tell us your feel as in drag coefficient at take off and at normal drive and your mpg.

If your manufactures says that you should use 10W40 pls do it that way and stick to it as oil swap in itself is not also good too as it has tendencies of burning up the oils, it doesn't matter if you bought it too cheap. But if you don't have the money to go synthetic way, and you don't want to neither spend that kind of money too you can still use the mineral oil as modern oil has all additives and minerals compound to clean up your engine and keep them well, but you must remain within the confinement of the viscosity and make sure you change them as at when due(3 months or 3000km,which ever that comes first) it is even more saver to go short intervals with this oil and change them as at when due than to go so long as one year, even when the oils is dead black due to our dirty environment as in the name of synthetic. But you must obey the rule of the viscosity else you are killing that engine slowly for the next buyer.

If your manufacturer says 10 w40, 5 w40, for synthetic, you may hack mineral oil for w40 like Total classic SAE40 etc and stick to it, but not 20w50 of even an heavenly brand. This oil stuff has been overflogged , we should have graduated from it by now.

Meanwhile, in the long run the so viewed synthetic oil as in cost is even cheaper to run than the mineral oil. Do your calculation give us the findings.

Anyways cost here is relative, c240 engine cost about 65k compared to yours.

This engine cost about 65k because they are naturally aspirated very rugged & dont give up and you have no reason to change them , they are the m112 engine in v6 and the m113 in v8, same engine found in ml, clk, g class and c240, c320.

You can buy after market dip stick you could always use if you don't want to go the electronic way from the dash.
But be careful that you or your mechanic does not pour tranny fluid into the engine bay like some does after having the dip stick. the dip stick will only be to check the oil level and after wards keep it somewhere save.
