This philanthropic gesture by the community of mutual financial aid and donations, is part of their humanitarian week which they tagged ‘MMM cares’ as they mark their first anniversary in Nigeria. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the camps identified for the gesture include those in Gwoza and Bama in Durumi area and the New Kuchingoro. Reports say the items donated include bags of beans, garri, rice, cartons of beverages and noodles, clothing, drugs, and educational materials to the pupils among them. Speaking on the gesture by the group, Seyo Bello, identified as a Guilder, explained that they were moved by their desire to positively affect the society as well as those without anyone to help. “We are marking our first year anniversary and we have decided to come and celebrate it with our brothers, mothers and children in the camp. “As a community, we do not only provide help to our members, we also extend that to the larger society as part of our social responsibility. “In these times of economic challenges, the IDPs are the ones that need help and support more than any other person; that is why we visited them today,” Bello was quoted to have said. A yet-to-be identified Nigerian pilgrim has landed in trouble in Saudi Arabia for taking kolanuts to the holy land. The pilgrim, it was learnt, was caught with 10 kolanuts on Monday afternoon. The pilgrim was said to have been fined 10,000 Saudi Riyals, amounting to 1000 Riyals per kolanut. A source who spoke with the acting Ambassador of Nigeria in Saudi Arabia Monday afternoon confirmed the development, saying the Saudi authorities viewed the importation of kolanuts into the Kingdom as illegal. As at the time of filing this report, officials of the Nigerian Consulate in Jeddah were still pleading for the pilgrim. – A dog in India died fighting to protect his family from four cobras which tried to enter the house – The dog was able to kill the snakes but was bitten in the process – Minutes after the fight, the dog collapsed and died . Time and again some heroic dogs have proved the phrase, ‘A dog is a man’s best friend,’ beyond what words can describe. A Doberman dog fought four cobras courageously in order to protect his owners. On a Monday evening, four cobras were making its way into Dibakar Raita’s house when the loyal Doberman confronted them and tried to prevent them from entering the peaceful home. Eyewitnesses said that the fight went on for a while and blood was shed during the battle. All of the animals involved in the epic fight lost their lives. Dibakar Rait, the owner of the brave Doberman, said: “I’m shocked. He has made the supreme sacrifice for me and my family. I will remember him till our death. I pray God – May his soul rest in peace”. Rait and his family, who reside in the village of Sebekapur in the Gajapati district, India, are still reeling from the tragic but inspiring incident. The snakes which the Doberman fought against were identified as mountain cobras. Despite being bitten several times, the loyal Doberman did not stop fighting until it had killed all of the dangerous snakes. Unfortunately, the dog collapsed and died minutes after protecting his owners due to the cobras’ venom. – Babachir David Lawal, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) spoke about Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu – Lawal explained that the forgery charges leveled against both Saraki and Ekweremadu has nothing to do with members of National Assembly involving themselves in the court processes The SGF explained this in a statement released on Wednesday, June 29, stating that a case of forgery is always brought upon individuals. Lawal stressed the fact that a case like certificate forgery was the reason for the resignation of a Speaker of the House of Representatives, Salisu Buhari. The statement which explained some of the legal intricacies involved in the forgery charge reads: “Since the arraignment of the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki and, his Deputy Senator Ike Ekweremadu before the Federal High Court on Monday, June 27, 2016, the two leaders of the Senate, have issued two separate press statements conveying messages that are far from being complementary to the person and government of President Muhammadu Buhari. “Senator Saraki in his statement clearly insinuated that Mr President is not in control of his administration and that a cabal now runs the federal administration. On the part of Senator Ekweremadu, he insists that President Buhari is exhibiting dictatorial tendencies that can derail our democracy.” The SGF who cleared on any time of vendetta by President Muhammadu Buhari on Saraki and his deputy said, “from their statements, the two leaders of the Senate also gave this erroneous impression that by their arraignment, it is the entire Senate and indeed, the Legislative Arm of Government that is on trial. They want the public to believe that their prosecution is utter disregard by the Executive Arm of government for the constitutional provisions of separation of powers and that preferring the forgery case against them is a vendetta exercise.” Lawal further explained in the statement: “It is not the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that is involved and definitely not the House of Representatives. To bring the National Assembly as a body into this court case is totally unwarranted. It can only be for other purposes and reasons outside the investigation and legal proceedings. “A case of forgery is usually preferred against individuals. This is not different. As was the case with a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, who was accused of certificate forgery, what he did was to resign, honorably. The matter did not even go to court. “In that particular case, it was never orchestrated as a matter for the National Assembly. The individual involved did not drag the entire Legislature into the matter. “While Senator Saraki believes Mr. President has abdicated his powers and that a cabal is in charge of Federal Administration, Senator Ekweremadu says President Buhari has become a dictator. “Our democracy is still evolving and being deepened. The provisions of the separation of powers are entrenched in our Constitution and should guide everyone in our conduct. The rule of law is indeed supreme. “This particular case is before the judiciary and is not being decided by the Executive Arm of Government. All that has transpired is still within the confines of our laws. These are the rights to accuse, to be investigated and be arraigned before the court. “To impute other considerations to the process is unfortunate.
