Car Talk / What Would You Do If Someone Did This In Your Car? (PHOTO) by autojosh: 10:07am On Jul 04, 2019
An Uber driver with the twitter handle @uber_that tweeted about how a passenger littered his car with ground nuts shells.

According to him, “Just from Mushin to Yaba, a lady did this in my car. Tomorrow, if I say I don’t like accepting “ride request” from Mushin, they will say I am proud. But I am still trying to imagine how dirty her house will be.”.

If this were your car, what would be your reaction?

Car Talk / Planes, Traffic Lights & Tyres : Find Out Why They Have “standard” Colours by autojosh: 6:15pm On Jun 28, 2019

If you have an inquisitive mind like I do, you might be wondering ; why most traffic lights have the colours red, yellow and green ; why most commercial passenger planes are painted white ; and why tyres are black.

These are not mere coincidences, and these colours were not chosen because they look “good”.
Let’s find out why these “standard” colours are used

Planes
Although very few planes(private and commercial) use other colours like black and blue, most planes make use of the colour white. There is a very reasonable explanation for this.
When planes fly in the sky, they are exposed to very large amounts of radiation and heat from the sun.White ( and other light colours) reflect heat and radiation, better than darker colours, but white is one of the colours that does this best.It helps airline companies save on cooling cost and also protects parts of the plane that can easily get damaged by heat or solar radiation.
You can experiment this phenomenon very simply at home on a sunny day, by trying on a white outfit, then a black outfit of similar material, trust me the difference would be very clear. You would feel cooler and sweat less in the white outfit.

Traffic Lights
From nursery school most of us have been taught that RED means stop, YELLOW means ready and GREEN means go!. We have adapted to these colours denoting their various meanings, but they have not always being this way.
There was a time when traffic lights were initially just red(stop) and white(go), they were primarily used for trains.Train drivers often mistook nearby or surrounding white lights from other sources as the “go” signal. This prompted a change.

Red was chosen as the stop sign/colour, because it has a higher wavelength, which means it can travel farther.Yellow has a shorter wavelength compared to red, but a longer wavelength compared to green.

Tyres
Very few people know this, but tyres have not always being black, they used to be white !. This is so because, the natural colour of rubber is white.
Because early tyres were very inefficient, they had a mileage of about 5000 miles, in the early 1900s scientist came up with a solution to add carbon black to tyres, this made them stronger and more durable, it also gave them the black colour.

Are you enlightened ?
Tell us what you think.

Don’t forget to rate and share.

Car Talk / How To Care For Your Car Windscreen by autojosh: 11:16am On Jun 17, 2019

A windscreen – also referred to as windshield – is an essential part of the vehicle’s structure.

It is a component of vehicles that many of us take for granted.

A car windscreen does much more than act as protection from the wind and the rain. A clear and undamaged windscreen is vital for good vision while driving.

It is important that the windscreen of your vehicle be kept in good condition.

Below, we have highlighted some tips on how to take care of your vehicle windscreen in order to keep them in optimum condition.

Avoid cracks on your windscreen

A crack on a windscreen can impair a driver’s vision. This can make it hard for the driver to see approaching vehicles or other objects ahead of him/her. In addition, a crack, minor scratches or tiny chips on the windscreen can cause an accident as they can cause a glare or dazzle from sunlight and other car headlights. This can, for a moment, prevent a driver from seeing approaching vehicles or objects.

Prevent cracks in your windscreen from spreading

Never ignore cracks or chips when you discover them on your vehicle windscreen. Some cracked windscreens are often the result of a chip that was left unrepaired and then grew into something more serious. Some cracks – when discovered early – can be prevented from spreading.

Repair cracks on your windscreen when they are small

It is quicker – and cheaper – to get small damage repaired than a fully cracked windscreen, which will usually need to be completely replaced.

It is better to repair the chip or crack as soon as they are discovered. Even if the damage is not in your line of vision, don’t put off the repairs – a crack left unattended can quickly spread across the windscreen.

Regularly check your windscreen for signs of damage

Always inspect your windscreen for any signs of crack or chip. If any is discovered, try to fix it immediately so that they do not become larger.

Be careful when driving on poor road surfaces

Drive carefully on roads with poor surfaces and roads under repair. Vehicle in front of you can kick up a rock and it can hit and damage your windscreen.

Drive at a sensible distance from vehicles carrying rocks

Maintain a reasonable distance from trucks or other vehicles ahead of you that are carrying rocks or any hard items. The rocks or hard items can fall off them and crack your windscreen.

Use adhesives to repair tiny cracks on your windscreen

If you discover a chip or tiny crack on your windscreen, you could repair it by injecting an epoxy or acrylic adhesive into it. This will seal the crack or chip and prevent dust or moisture from getting into it. Sadly, larger cracks are hard to fix. In this case, more detailed repair work would need to be carried out.

Avoid pouring high or low-temperature fluid on your windscreen

In extremely cold temperatures, when windscreens are frozen, avoid pouring hot or boiling water on to the glass. Sudden changes in temperature can crack the glass.

Replace windscreen wipers regularly

Replace windscreen wipers regularly. This will ensure that they are operating effectively and properly and removing dirt. Replace your wipers at least once a year.

Do not press on a broken windscreen from the interior of the vehicle

Avoid pressing on a broken windscreen from the interior of the car.

Due to the concave nature of the windscreen, a crack on the windscreen can seriously weaken the structural integrity of the windshield and the glass is likely to continue cracking if pressure is placed on it from the inside.

Replace extremely cracked windscreen
A windscreen with large cracks or those that continue to spread will need to be replaced completely.

Park your car in a garage or carport
Parking your car in a garage or a carport will help to prevent your windscreen from damage from falling objects or hails. This method is important for those who live in and park their vehicles by storey buildings or other high-rise buildings.

Look for protection during extreme weather or storms
While driving during severe or hostile weather conditions, like storms, carefully pull into a petrol station or under an overpass for protection until the worst has passed. This is a safe thing to do, as visibility might decrease and friction between the road and your car tyres may be reduced.

Car Talk / Customs Import Duty Has Been Increased by autojosh: 3:06pm On Jun 11, 2019

Without any notice, without any prior hint, the official Customs exchange rate was increased yesterday. The rate which used to be N306 per dollar has now been increased to N326 per dollar. Consequently, this has led to an increase in the cost of clearing cars and other imported items at the Nigerian ports.

The new rate was announced on Monday morning and it was implemented immediately throwing lots of vehicle owners and clearing agents into a state of confusion.

One of the clearing agents Autojosh spoke to confirmed that he had been asked to pay a surface duty amount of N2,350,000 for a Mercedes Benz SUV. However, he got a shocker after he tried to input the details into the Customs server in order to proceed with the clearing process. "This N2,500,000 I'm seeing on this computer must be an error".. He said to himself.

Another agent said he had calculated the total clearing cost of his customer's 2005 Toyota Camry using the usual surface duty of N201,000. Now, he has to go back to his customer to explain that the surface duty has been increased to N214,000 (note that these quoted surface duties is different from total clearing costs. Surface duty does not include taxes, shipping/terminal charges and other ancillary costs).

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents at Tin Can Island Port, Mr Emmanuel Onyeme, all transactions and cargoes that were cleared at the port on Monday were already paying N326 per dollar.

The introduction of this policy is really saddening and it's even more saddening that it was implemented with immediate effect after importers had shipped their items and clearing agents had already accepted jobs using calculations based on the old rate of N306 per dollar.

Do you have a car or other items that's currently heading to Nigeria? Be ready to pay more than you initially anticipated.

Car Talk / Lagos State Civil Service Staff Buses: The Old Vs. The New (PHOTOS) by autojosh: 10:18am On Jun 05, 2019
In terms of the best quality workplace experience, Lagos state continues to set the standard in Nigeria.

For instance, the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, offers a conducive atmosphere for public servants to thrive in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities. Successive democratic administrations in Lagos state have instituted several policies to ensure that.

In Lagos state, transportation consumes a sizable chunk of the salaries and wages of the residents.

With that understanding – and in addition to options like car loans – the Lagos state civil service makes available a good number of staff buses. These staff buses are made available to convey the Lagos state workers to and from work, daily.

Essentially, this mode of transportation was designed to ensure optimum productivity from members of the Lagos state’s workforce.

In keeping with a promised he made during his campaign, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu recently presented 35  brand new air-conditioned buses to the Lagos state civil services.

According to the governor, “The Lagos civil service is the backbone of government operations and ensuring we have a quality, motivated, disciplined and emotionally invested workforce is key in building”.

See below photos of the old Lagos state civil service staff buses and the recently acquired ones.

Politics / 10 Traffic Laws That Gov. Sanwo-olu’s Predecessors Failed To Enforce by autojosh: 4:07pm On Jun 03, 2019
One area that Lagosians expect a significant impact from the Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration is in the area of traffic and road management.

To achieve success in the road transport sector, and beyond the development of road and traffic infrastructure, existing laws would need to be strictly enforced.

The atrocious traffic situation in Lagos state is often the result of the lack of will power to enforce some of these traffic laws.

Indeed, it is one thing to make laws; it is another thing to follow through with proper enforcement of such laws.

Since 1999, successive governments in Lagos state became famous for instituting brilliant and cutting-edge laws or public rules – especially in the road transport subsector.

Sadly, each of them ended up failing miserably in enforcing some of these laws.

Soon, it becomes evident for all to see that the willpower to enforce these laws or public rules is practically non-existent.

Typically, the reason for poor enforcement of these laws is credited to re-election considerations.

Unlike in the military dispensation, there is always the fear of the possible diminished political capital of the governor or his political party, as a fallout of the strict enforcement of some of these laws.

This has become some of the very tragic realities in Lagos.

On 29, May, a new government in Lagos state – headed by Babajide Sanwo-Olu – was inaugurated.

Will Sanwo-Olu be daring enough to enforce some of these road transport laws and rules whose poor enforcements have made Lagos state rank poorly in road traffic management?

See below some laws and rules in the road transport sector that we expect Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to enforce without fear of whose ox is gored.

Hanging Bus Conductors

Indeed, this practice is almost as old as modern day Lagos. It is the practice of Danfo conductors hanging out of their buses, while the bus is in motion.

Hanging on Danfos is considered as some sort of professional “swag” in the league of danfo conductors.

Successive governments – civilian and military – have issued threats and warnings against the practice. Yet, it did little to curb the practice.

The administrations of Tinubu, Fashola and the outgoing Ambode administration, have demonstrated no sincere resolve to stem this dangerous practice.

Ban on Agberos

Unarguably, the activities of the road transport unions officials –aka “agbero” – is the greatest nuisance that bedevils roads in Lagos.

To regulate their activities on the roads, 0n August 3, 2012, the Fashola administration enacted the Lagos road traffic laws.

This law was unambiguous in the outright ban of the activities of the Agberos (NURTW, RTREAN, etc.) both at motor parks and at bus stops.

In simple terms, by that law, the mere sight of an agbero on the street or bus stop is a crime against Lagos state.

Curiously, the enforcement of that law by the chest-beating Fashola administration only lasted for 3 days.

Interestingly, that law still exists. Yet, there has been no political will to enforce it. It further heightens the popular curiosity as to why successive Lagos state government in the democratic dispensation are completely powerless over the activities of Agberos in the state.

Ban on Okada

Commercial motorcycle better known as “Okada” is one of the greatest public nuisances that has ever afflicted Lagos state.

This ubiquitous mode of public transport gained notoriety for a number reason. For instance, these necessary evils contribute significantly to the high patronage witnessed at orthopaedic hospitals in Lagos.

Okadas are also the most convenient mode of getaway transport for criminals – especial in locations with busy traffic.

Successive governments in Lagos state had made efforts to outlaw this mode of public transport without success.

However, the administration of Babatunde Fashola – in 2012 – took the bull by the horn by instituting an assertive ban on Okada operation.

The ban restricted Okadas from plying 475 roads in the metropolis.

Today, that ban appears to exist only on papers.

Helmet

Naturally, motorcyclists- especially Okada riders – are required to use a helmet and provide one for passengers. This rule was never really enforced in Lagos state.

In 2008, the Fashola administrator instituted a road traffic policy that makes it illegal for motorcyclists and their passengers to commute without protective headgear.

The government even came up with a policy that compels commercial motorcyclist to use only government-provided helmets.

The enforcement of that rule was only sustained for a brief period.

Ban on the operation of “Kabu kabu”

“Kabu kabu” are unregistered taxis – or those that are not painted in the designated colours of commercial vehicles in Lagos state.

In the twilight of the military rule in Lagos, state, the activities of Kabu kabu operators were issues of concern to the government. Apart from security concerns, they were hard to regulate and tax.

However, with the return of democracy, moves were made to legislate against the practice.

During the Fashola administration, the Ministry of Transportation originated an act that was forwarded to the State House of Assembly for the regulation of Kabu Kabu operations in the state.

The act had ideas on to ensure that cab operators get licenses from the ministry in order to operate. The regulation was necessary so that the lives of residents would not be at risk.

Apparently, that effort turned out to be a waste of time and effort.

Prohibition of Danfo Bus Drivers From Working More Than 8 Hours Daily

Fatigue, due to driving for long hours, contribute to some reckless and dangerous driving by commercial drivers in Lagos.

In 2013, to reduce incidences of fatigue-inspired road mishaps, the Fashola-led government came up with a harebrained idea. It was a law that prohibited bus drives from working more than 8 hours daily.

The government depended on Section 44 of the Road Traffic Law. The law stated that commuter bus drivers are barred from driving for 8 hours at a stretch.

On January 2014, enforcement of that law started. However, like other otherwise good policies, the Lagos state government demonstrated the lack of will-power to enforce this road traffic law.

Street trading

In Lagos state, jobs and decent employment opportunities are terrifically scarce. This reality has led million to trade on the street and engaging in other similar informal economic activities.

Street trading has become a major contributor to the incredible GDP of Lagos state.

Sadly, street trading is one of the big menaces on the roads in Lagos state – sometimes contributing to traffic gridlocks. It has been an issue of great concern to successive governments in Lagos state.

However, in 2016, the Ambode administration started a campaign to rid roads of hawkers and street traders. Enormous state resources were invested to promote this project.

For instance, street signs to indicate the prohibition of street trading on roads were produced and installed around the state.

However, and ostensibly due to the fear of a possible backlash at the polls, the entire plan was jettisoned.

Designated Routes For Danfo

During the Fashola administration, a system of designating every Danfo on specific routes was instituted.

Principally, this system was necessary to stem the tide of criminal activities facilitated with the use of Danfos. A notable instance is the incidences of “One Chance”.

To that end, every danfo and Molue were designated on specific routes. To ensure compliance, the routes that each Danfo was assigned to were printed on their chassis. The enforcement was taken seriously but not for so long.

Wastebaskets in Commercial buses

The habit of throwing litters from mobile vehicles contributes to the notoriously poor sanitary condition of Lagos state.

To check the practice, the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu mandated that commercial vehicle operators should have a wastebasket in their vehicles at all time.

This measure was necessary to ensure that passengers in commercial buses no longer throw things out of commercial vehicles.

At the time, drivers of commercial buses were compelled to purchase small government-endorsed and branded wastebaskets.

Theses wastebaskets were sold to commercial drivers in Lagos state at exorbitant prices.

Sadly, time later proved that that policy was one intended primarily as a revenue drive for the government and perhaps empowerment for their cronies.

Gated streets

As part of a plan to ease Lagos state of traffic gridlocks – especially during rush hours – the Fashola administration outlawed the system where streets or roads that would have provided alternative routes to motorist are gated.

Residents and Landlord Associations were instructed by the state authorities to keep their street gates ajar until late in the evenings.

Upon implementation, this policy proved effective in decongesting traffic in some traffic gridlock-prone roads.

Lately, that enforcement appears to have been significantly relaxed.

If there is any you law that you feel we have omitted? If any, kindly add it in the comments section.

Travel / Digging Road-sides To Bury Cables:when Will This Old Practice End In Nigeria? by autojosh: 2:33pm On Jun 03, 2019

Digging activities have become common sights on roadsides across Nigeria.

These diggings are carried out by utility services providers such as telecoms and electric power providers. They do it in order to install their cables.

These digging which are typically done on walkways, drainages and even across tarred roads, contributes to damage to roads, flooding and other sources of economic losses.

Sadly, different utility and telecoms service providers take turns in digging up walkways, roads and gutters in order to bury their cables and pipes.

In Lagos state, some telecom operators have been accused of illegally damaging roads in order to lay fiber optics cables and not repairing the roads after the work.

This indictment is contained in a study carried out on behalf of the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) by Critical Infrastructure Services (CIS) Limited.

The Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) is the agency saddled with the responsibility of regulating these cable laying and similar infrastructure development activities.

LASIMRA benefits from these activities in the form of taxes and levies from these utility companies to carry out these digging activities. These levies are reported to run into several billions of naira.

However, LASIMRA has also been guilty of not regulating these activities effectively.

For instance, despite the huge revenues it earns, LASIMRA has done very little in providing cable ducts on roads around the state for these utility companies to run their cables through.

Beyond constructing cable ducts on roads, a school of thought believes that LASIMRA should take up the responsibility or outsourcing the responsibility of constructing underground channels or mini-tunnels.

When constructed, the underground channels or tunnels can be used by utility or telecoms service providers to run their pipes and cables, and of course, they would pay fees to the government to use them.

Except for something of this nature is not done, we would have to contend with ceaseless damage to our roads – and by extension flooding and other economic losses by public services providers.

Politics / Ghana Vs. Nigeria Railway Line Construction: The Costs Will Shock You! by autojosh: 7:48am On Jun 01, 2019
Just like Nigeria, Ghana will be having a standard gauge railway line.

The Ghanaian government and the Ghana European Railway Consortium (GERC) recently reached a concession agreement for the construction of the line.

The railway line, which will run on a 340km track, will cost Ghana $2.2 billion.

Under the project, GERC proposes to build a double line railroad with maintenance roads on each side and it would have fencing on each side to protect the rail lines.

The system would consist of three major stations in Accra, Koforidua and Kumasi; with additional 30 minor stations ad stopping points along the line.

The entire rail line would be electrified, thus the locomotives and coaches would be electric, the first in the country.

GERC would also build a sleeper factory in the country, which would have the capacity to produce over 1,000 sleepers per day, with the factory employing 550 full-time workers.

It would take three years to complete the project.

Meanwhile, in 2016, in Nigeria, the ongoing construction of a 156 km standard gauge railway line connecting Lagos to Ibadan was contracted for a $2 billion.

The contract for the project was awarded to the construction firm, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

This brings to question why the cost of constructing the railway track in Nigeria is costing us almost twice what it cost in Ghana.

Or is there more that our government is not telling us?

Car Talk / Mike Tyson: Car Collection Of The Most Dreaded Boxer (photos) by autojosh: 3:25pm On Apr 29, 2019

Mike Tyson was one of the toughest and most dreaded figures in boxing history.

His first 19 fights were won by knockouts. Twelve (12) of those demolitions were in the first round.

At the peak of his boxing career, he amassed an estimated net worth of about $300 million.

Sadly, he blew this fortune on a lavish lifestyle.

Tyson also achieved fame (or notoriety) for his extraordinary habit of acquiring luxury cars.

In 2002, after his defeat to Lennox Lewis, Tyson fortune suffered a significant decline.

In 2003, after a bout of overspending and the accumulation of taxes, he filed for Bankruptcy.

Sadly, the Hall of Fame boxer had to sell most of his cars to auctions and celebrity museums.

At the peak of his boxing career,  “Iron Mike” Tyson’s car collection included: several Rolls-Royces, Range Rover, Porsches, Jaguars, Aston-Martin Lagonda, BMWs, Cadillac Escalade, Lamborghinis, etc.

Autojosh highlights some of his popular automobiles and a brief history behind each.

Cadillac Eldorado

Following a successful amateur career, Tyson joined the professional rank in 1985.  After winning his first 19 fights, he was hailed as the “Golden child” of the division. To match the new reputation, he fittingly bought for himself ‘the golden one’, a Cadillac Eldorado.

1985 Cadillac Seville

After the death of his influential trainer - D'Amato - in November 1985, Jim Jacobs took over as Tyson’s trainer. Jacobs acquired for Tyson a Cadillac Seville. This early taste of luxury automobiles obviously sparked a passion in Tyson for cars.

Rolls-Royce Silver Spur

In 1986, after defeating James Smith to claim the WBA title, Tyson visited a luxury car dealership. He told the dealer that he wanted a Rolls-Royce. Mike’s new manager Jacobs stopped him and ordered that he should suspend the purchase until he was 21.

Tyson returned to the dealership on June 30, his 21st birthday, to purchase a blue Rolls-Royce Silver Spur. The car cost him $119,500.

Rolls-Royce Corniche

In 1987, after defeating Tony Tucker to claim the IBF belt to hold all three-title straps, Tyson rewarded himself with a Rolls-Royce Corniche. The car cost him $165,000.

Rolls-Royce Stretch Limousine

In 1988, after Tyson crashed his convertible Bentley, boxing promoter, Don King, bought Tyson two luxury cars: a black Rolls-Royce Stretch Limousine for $198,000 and another ivory Corniche.

1989 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 560SL

After the demolition of British Frank Bruno, Tyson rewarded himself with a white 1989 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 560SL. It was reported that the 5.6-liter V8 car was a favourite of Tyson’s friend, rapper Tupac Shakur.  Tupac was believed to have influenced Tyson’s purchase of the car. The car has a top speed of around 137 miles per hour and come in both a Hard Top and Soft Top version.

1990 Mercedes Benz 500 SL

On February of 1990, James ‘Buster’ Douglas defeated the Champ – Iron Mike Tyson. This left Tyson losing the 3 titles he held. Regardless, on June of the same year, Tyson comforted himself with a 1990 Mercedes Benz 500 SL. The car came complete with a mobile phone (yes, a mobile phone was a big deal back then).  Days before his fight with amateur rival, Henry Tillman, the car was impounded by the police.

1995 Ferrari F50 and Ferrari 456 GT Spyder

During the early 90’s, Tyson returned to the ring after serving a jail term for rape. He brutalized Frank Bruno to regain his WBC title.

With his return to big earnings, came a return to his acquisition of luxury car collection.

He added to his car collection the Italian luxury cars - a 1995 Ferrari F50 and a Ferrari 456 GT Spyder - in a package deal. The GT Spyder was the last special production 456 produced as a convertible, with a limited number rolled out the factory. Two of this car model were specially built by Pininfarina: one for the Sultan of Brunei and one for Tyson.

Aston-Martin Lagonda

Mike Tyson loved classic cars too. He owned an Aston-Martin Lagonda.

This car was built by Aston Martin of Newport Pagnell, England, between 1974 and 1990.  Only 645 were produced. The car has a 5.3 liter DOHC V8 engine, producing 280 bhp and has a top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h) and an acceleration speed of 0–60 mph in 6.2 seconds.

The classic Aston-Martin Lagonda cost about $200,000 dollar.

1997 Bentley Continental T

Evander Holyfield handed Tyson a shock defeat. A rematch was slated. This became one of the most hotly anticipated rematches in boxing history.

Before the infamous second fight (when Tyson bit Holyfield’s ear) he purchased a stunning 1997 Bentley Continental T. The car had a price-tag of around $500,000.The car is regarded as the era of the last proper hand-built Bentleys.  The car came with an authoritative 6.75-liter turbocharged injection engine that punches with 426hp and a maximum torque of 645 lb-ft. Only 73 units of this car were produced.

2000 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster

In 1996, Tyson retained his WBA title in a controversial victory over Bruce Seldon.

That same night, his friend, Tupac Shakur, was tragically shot and killed. That notwithstanding, he rewarded himself with a classic yellow Lamborghini Super Diablo Twin Turbo.Only 7 of this car was built.

The car has a price tag today of around $150,000 dollars and features a custom V12 750 HP engine that has a healthy top speed of 358 Km/h. (222 Mph).

Jaguar XJ220

the Jaguar XJ220 is considered as one of the fastest supercars available. Iron Mike Tyson owned one.

Car Talk / Have You Ever Wondered Why Steering Wheels Are Not In The Center?-read This by autojosh: 3:16pm On Apr 25, 2019

In a world where symmetry and centralization are usually taken quite seriously, some folks might be pretty inquisitive as to why this “rule” was not extended to the car steering wheel.

“Why isn’t it in the middle ! at least we would not have to worry about the left hand drive and right hand drive issue” like it is in the Mclaren F1 and some other rare cars.

Let’s get enlightened .

1.There would be issues with comfortably sitting two people in front, the driver included. The driver would have to sit slightly to the left or right to allow someone else sit beside him. If you have ever sat in the front sit of a Keke Marwa(Tricycle), you would understand what I am saying and how uncomfortable it is.To fix the issue of comfort with this setup, manufacturers would have to increase the width of the car, which in turn would lead to more wind resistance.
Wind resistance would make the car engine work harder to attain certain speeds, which means more fuel would be used.

2.It would be very uncomfortable getting into the drivers seat from either side of the car.

3.While sitting in the middle would mean both sides of the car are equally distant from the driver, it would also make having a centre mirror impractical, and it would move the driver further from the centre of the road, making it hard to see around some corners, such as those at intersections/crossroads, or when a Danfo is about to brush you .

4.You would also have a hard time seeing what is going on in front of you, especially when there is traffic, or when you are about to overtake, because you would need to lean all the way to the right or left to see what is going on ahead.

Did you learn something today?

If you have points to add, we would love to read about them in the comments.

Don’t forget to share.

Health / Manufacture & Import Low Or Emission Free Vehicles Only Into Nigeria –NADDC Boss by autojosh: 3:56pm On Apr 23, 2019

Manufacture & Import Low Or Emission Free Vehicles Only Into Nigeria –NADDC Boss Charges Stakeholders

Lung infection, heart decease, cancer and many more illnesses are all over the Nigerian atmosphere due to vehicle emissions and generator fumes. Many Nigerians have become sensitive to this pervasive plague that has become a part of our society while some others are oblivious of this deadly killer that is hard to run away from no matter how much you lock your doors and windows.

In a bid to reconfirm the efforts by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Director General, NADDC Jelani Aliyu MFR. has charged importers and manufacturers in the local auto sector to import and manufacture only vehicles with zero or low emission.

The Director General made this call at the presentation of findings of the development of fuel economy baseline and inventory in Nigeria held at Ibeto hotel, Abuja, Wednesday 17th April 2019.

He said over the years, there has been no specific emission level set for importers rather than the age –limit emission which is fifteen (15) years. Consequently, the NADDC is in the forefront of developing and implementing policies for sustainable low emission transport system in Nigeria in line with UN Environment Programme particularly the UN Environment’s Chemicals and Waste Sub-programme 2018-2019 and Climate Change Sub-progrmme 2018-2019 of which the expectation is “To strengthen the ability of Countries to move towards climate-resilient and low emission pathways for sustainable development and human well-being”

Jelani seized the opportunity to commend other relevant stakeholders for their efforts towards data gathering; computation and contributions made so far for the project, and also thanked the Global Economy Initiative (GFEI) represented at the programme by Prof. James Nyan’aga for GFEI effort and innovation which according to him would improve the policy implementation, promote and encourage the use of clean fuel and clean vehicle in Nigeria.

Car Talk / Autojosh Specializes In Helping Nigerians Import Cars Themselves. See Proofs(pix by autojosh: 10:16am On Apr 17, 2019

For some people, importing their car from overseas is a far better option.

It is most times, cheaper than buying from dealers here in Nigeria. Indeed, you get to save yourself a substantial amount of money when you import your car yourself.

However, it is important to be well informed and to start the process early. Importing your car from outside Nigeria can be costly and complicated if you are not well-guided.

At Autojosh, we specialize in guiding our clients through the step-by-step process on how to import vehicles by themselves.

Our preferred countries of import are the United State, Canada and United Arab Emirates.

Car Talk / Car Suspension: 7 Indicators That Your Car Has Suspension Problems by autojosh: 4:15pm On Apr 15, 2019

The suspension of a car is the mechanism that makes driving in a car comfortable.

During rough rides - especially due to bad roads, potholes or bumps  -  it is the responsibility of the suspension to provide control over the vehicle when it bounces.

The suspension also causes a hard impact from a bouncing vehicle not to be transferred to the passengers.

It is also the job of the suspension to protect the vehicle from damage from the numerous impact it has with the ground during rough rides.

A vehicle’s suspension is the part that connects the vehicle’s body to its wheels.

A vehicle suspension system is made up of the shock absorber, springs, tyres, tyre air, and other components that connect your vehicle to its wheels.

When a car has suspension problems, the symptom is easy to tell, but tracing the source of the problem is usually the challenge.

The source of the symptom could be faulty or worn out ball joints, springs, shock absorber, struts, etc. Knowing the exact source of the system most time would require the attention of an experienced mechanic to spot what the fault is.

So, how can we tell if our cars have suspension problems?

If Your Shock Absorber Is Oily or Greasy

If your shock absorber looks oily or greasy, this is a sign that the shock is damaged. You can tell an oily shock absorber when you look under the vehicle to inspect the shocks. If the shock is stained with greasy fluid, chances are that it has been damaged. It’s important to replace them at that point.

If Your Car Aligns to one Side When in Motion

This could be a sign of a suspension problem. It could mean that the steering component and the suspension have become worn-out and in need of replacement.

However, when a car is in need of a wheel alignment, or when the level of tread wear on the tyres is different, this could also make a car align to one side.

If you Experience Bumpy Rides

A rough ride is an obvious sign that your vehicle's suspension needs work. That is, when driving in your car becomes bumpy that it causes the car to “bounce”. This is a sign that your suspension needs work.

If you begin to feel the impact when your vehicle drives into a bump or pothole

When the impact of running into a pothole is transferred to your body – or is really felt, your ride is no longer enjoyable or cosy, then its might just be the right time to have your suspension checked.

If your vehicle dips or noses further than anticipated

This is another sign that your suspension needs work. When you notice that your car noses further or dips further than anticipated, especially when you apply the brakes, this is a sign that of a worn-out shock absorber.

If your vehicle bounces repeatedly

The repeated bouncing of your car after hitting a pothole or a bump is a sign of a suspension problem. The vehicle suspension is supposed to provide stability when it drives into a pothole. Continuous bouncing indicates that the vehicle has worn out or damaged shock absorber.

If your vehicle drifts or pulls away at corners

If you noticed that your vehicle drifts or pulls away when you are making a turn at a corner, this is a sign that the suspension is no longer carrying out one of its function of keeping the vehicle stable.  This makes driving the vehicle risky as the vehicle might roll over when in motion. It is very important to get the vehicle checked by a mechanic as soon as possible.

When this happens, it is a sign that the suspension is no longer carrying out one of its function of keeping the vehicle stable.  This makes driving the vehicle risky as the vehicle might roll over when in motion. It is very important to get the vehicle checked by a mechanic as soon as possible.
