Politics / Governor Sanwo-Olu Says Lagos Is Cleaner Now. Do You Agree? (Photos) by AutoJoshNG: 8:21am On Dec 17, 2019
Not too long ago, everywhere one turned to in Lagos, heaps of refuse stared at us. This was equally with their accompanying health hazard.

The situation was the result of the change in the method of refuse disposal in the State.

In 2016, Governor Akinwumi Ambode introduced the Cleaner Lagos Initiative. The intention was for a single company known as “Visionscape” to take over the residential waste collection from 350 PSP operators. Sadly, the transit from the PSP to Visionscape led to unimpressive waste management in the State.

However, shortly before Ambode’s departure from the seat of authority in the state, the Lagos State House of Assembly has ordered the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state to call on the Private Sector Partnership (PSP) operators in their areas to go back to refuse packing job with immediate effect.

Shortly, afterwards, there appeared to be some measure of improvement in waste management. Still, a whole lot more needed to be done.

https://mobile.twitter.com/jidesanwoolu/status/1204743025634746368

Is waste management better in the last 6 months?

However, driving around town, one can still see heaps of refuse along major roads in the State. The drainage systems are no better. They are mostly filled with refuse.

Indeed, it is undeniable that waste management is better than before the PSP operators were recalled, which occurred last year. However, the improvement can be said to be only marginally better.

Is the current sanitary condition of Lagos State enough for the State Government to pat itself on its back for?

Or is the current administration in Lagos State operating on a relatively low standard as regards environmental sanitation?

What is your opinion?

Car Talk / Safety Precautions To Observe When Jacking Up Your Car by AutoJoshNG: 12:25am On Dec 17, 2019
There are several reasons why one would want to jack up a vehicle. Some of it include changing a flat/bad tyre, carrying out a schedule maintenance, troubleshooting a fault, etc. So, for whatever reason that will warrant you to jack your car, you have to do it safely. Safety first!!!

There are some safety precautions you should keep to avoid personal injury and damage to car.
When jacking your car, be sure to observe the following to reduce the possibility of death or serious injury
.

1. Follow jacking instructions recommended by your vehicle manufacturer.

2. Do not put any part of your body under the vehicle supported by the jack. Personal injury may occur.

3. Do not start or run the engine while your vehicle is supported by the jack.

4. Stop the vehicle on a level firm ground, firmly set the parking brake and put the transmission in “P” (automatic) or reverse (Manual). Block the wheels on the opposite side of the jack up point if necessary.

5. Make sure too set the jack properly in the jack point. Raising the vehicle with jack improperly positioned will damage the vehicle or may allow the vehicle to fall off the jack and cause personal injury.

6. Never get under the vehicle when vehicle is supported by the jack alone; use vehicle support stands.

7. Do not raise the vehicle with someone in the vehicle. Commercial drivers in Nigeria hardly keep to this.

8. When raising the vehicle, do not place any objects on top of or underneath the jack. Most Nigerians are guilty of this.

9. Do not use inferior jack. You may end up getting more than you bargained for. This may be harm to oneself or damage to vehicle.

We hope this helps. Kindly like, rate and share. We would still appreciate if you have a contribution to make in the comment section.

Culture / Three Generations Of Ooni Of Ife And Their Rolls-royces (PHOTOS) by AutoJoshNG: 4:38pm On Dec 16, 2019
Rolls-Royce has been a car brand of choice for a number of high-net-worth individuals, including royalties, around the world.

For instance, the British royals (The House Of Windsor) are known for their attraction for Rolls-Royce cars since the 1950s. Other royalties around the world have also become famous for their penchant for the luxury brand. In Nigeria, it is no different.

In Kano, the ownership of Rolls Royce by the Emirate is a heritage that started as far back as the ‘50s. So many other Monarchs in Nigeria have long adopted that tradition.

For instance, Ile-Ife monarchs, just like the Kano Emirate, have a long history of the usage of Rolls-Royce cars.

In this article, Autojosh.com highlights some of the Rolls-Royces of the last 2 Oonis and the current one.

Late Oba Adesoji Aderemi

Oba Adesoji Aderemi reigned as the 49th Ooni of Ife from 1930 to 1980. He was a very wealthy and powerful monarch. During his reign, he also served as the governor of the Western Region of Nigeria

Oba Aderemi was a prominent champion for the education of his subjects. He was of the belief that the surest way to facilitate and sustain modernisation is through education.

One of his greatest legacy in respect of education during his reign was the foundation of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University). He championed the cause for the University to be located in Ile-Ife. He later went on to donate the land upon which the school is situated.

Also, the late Oba Adesoji Aderemi was a collector of choice automobiles. He was famous for owning a Rolls-Royce Phantom V during his reign. The car bears the number plate WF1.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom V was recently put up on display at the convocation ceremony of the Obafemi Awolowo University. See photos HERE.

Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II, Ooni of Ife

The late Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II, ascended the throne of Ooni Of Ife in 1980. He was the 50th Ooni Of Ife. He was the grandson of Oba Adelekan, the 46th Ooni of Ife (1894 – 1910).

The late Oba Sijuwade was keen on promoting the Yoruba culture. He was particularly renowned for reviving dormant cultural links between Yoruba at home and those in the Diaspora.

However, one of his greatest legacies was his pan-Nigerian disposition. He was known for building bridges across ethnic divides. He maintained a very cordial relationship with the late Emir Ado Bayero of Kano and the Obi Ofala Okagbue of Onitsha.

Oba Sijuwade exuded class and panache. This was particularly evident in his choice of automobiles.

In his private fleet were various luxury cars but the first-class monarch loves the Rolls-Royces. One of the vintage Rolls-Royce in his fleet is the 1954 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III Chinese Eye FHC.

The late Oba Okunade Sijuwade ascended the throne of the highly coveted Ooni of Ile-Ife on December 6, 1980. He reigned for a period of 35 years until his passing on to glory on July 28, 2015.

Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi

Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II is the 51st Ooni of Ife. He attained the throne in 2015 after the demise of Oba Sijuwade.

Like his predecessor, Oba Ogunwusi was an astute businessman before his enthronement. He is known to have investments in real estate, hospitality business, etc.

Within a short time after his coronation, the Ooni has made several remarkable achievements. For instance, shortly after his coronation, Ooni Ogunwusi met with the Alaafin of Oyo. By doing so, he effectively broke the jinx of a long-term feud between the 2 thrones. This discord had plagued Ile-Ife and Oyo for decades.

His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has also demonstrated tirelessness in expanding the influence of the Yoruba culture and to unite it with other cultures and ethnicities. He is also an advocate for the empowerment and emancipation of women and young people.

Since his ascension, he has transformed Ile-Ife into a tourist zone, with changes including the beautification, redesign and reconstruction of the ancient city.

The debonair Ife monarch owns several exotic cars. Among them include an ultra-luxury 2011 model Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Car Talk / This Is How Lawyers Advertise Themselves With Their Cars (Photos) by AutoJoshNG: 9:41am On Dec 16, 2019
Ever wondered why lawyers do not advertise their services on conventional mass media platforms?

Well, their profession does not permit them to advertise. In other words, it is considered unethical for a lawyer to advertise their practice, especial via conventional mass media platforms. Though, in some countries, this rule has been significantly relaxed.

However, this does not stop some lawyers from devising creative means to showcase themselves or put their practice in the public focus.

For instance, in Nigeria, some lawyers always make themselves available on TV/radio programmes. There, they offer legal analysis of prevailing social, political and sundry issues. In the process, they creatively promote themselves and their practice. Some others take up controversial cases that have public attention, etc.

However, there is a particularly popular method by which lawyers advertise themselves. It is by means of car bumper stickers.

These “legal” bumper stickers bear information that informs other motorists or anyone reading it of the occupation of the owner of the car. In some cases, the sticker announces the relationship between the driver of the car and a lawyer.

These days, it is not uncommon to see some of these lawyer’s bumper stickers on cars driving around.

Here, Autojosh.com showcases some photos of lawyers bumper stickers spotted around.

Travel / The Return Of Parked Tankers On Expressways In Lagos (PHOTOS) by AutoJoshNG: 11:55am On Dec 13, 2019
Parked tankers and heavy-duty trucks are backed to expressways in Lagos State. This is coming after a few months of absence from the roads.

Lately, a long queue of the parked tankers can be noticed along some expressways in the state. Affected expressways include Ikorodu-Expressways leading to Eko Bridge, and to some Apapa roads.

Recall that, sometime in May this year, the Nigerian Presidency issued a directive for the immediate clearing up of the Apapa gridlock and the restoration of law and order in its environs within 2 weeks.

Less than a week after that directive was issued, parked trucks are speedily disappearing from major roads and bridges.

Roads affected are those that lead to the two seaports in Lagos state – the Apapa Port Complex and the Tin Can Island Port.

The period of the absence of the parked tankers on the expressways gave the roads a more organize outlook. This enabled a free flow of traffic on the busy expressways.

Traffic gridlock at the Apapa axis of Lagos state has been a major cause for concern as it has made doing business at the seaport and the surrounding environment tedious.

The recent return of the parked heavy-duty trucks has given rise to gridlock on affected roads.

The Lagos State Government have awarded contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of 160 roads in Lagos. This is in addition to 20 road projects that had previously been awarded. These roads include Ijede road, Igbogbo – Isawo road and others.

This information was made known by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. He made the announcement in a series of tweets on his official twitter handle.

According to the Governor, “On road rehabilitation and construction, the rains have subsided and we have embarked on massive rehabilitation of the roads. We have awarded work on 160 roads and an additional 20 in the past month. These roads include Ijede road, Igbogbo – Isawo road and others.”

“We’ve committed a lot of resources to the Lagos-Badagry Expressway and work is ongoing. The stretch the State government is handling will soon be completed”, Sanwo-Olu said.

On the decongestion of Apapa, Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed that his administration has identified a trailer park that is going to take 6,000 trucks. According to him, the construction of the park will start in earnest. We are also working with the NPA and the Nigerian Shipper’s Council for a long-lasting solution.

The Lagos State Governor further stated that his administration will continue to carry everyone along on the journey to a greater Lagos.

Recall that, in October, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu declared a state of emergency on road construction and rehabilitation across Lagos State. The Governor declared the state of emergency during a meeting with road construction contractors.

Travel / Dubai Tram: Why Don't We Have This Mode Of Public Transport In Nigeria? (Photos) by AutoJoshNG: 5:53pm On Dec 11, 2019
In Dubai, one of the most fascinating features in public transportation is the Dubai Tram. The Dubai Tram is an essential part of Dubai transport network.

Generally, Trams are one of the safest modes of public transport in the world.

What exactly is a Tram?

A tram is similar to a train in many ways. It runs on a railway-like line called a tramway. Just like trains, it consist of a series of coaches/carriages/vehicles. Trams usually run from a tramway to a railway line. It can also be modified to have the speed of a train.

The Dubai Tramway

The Dubai Tram is a tramway located in Al Sufouh. The tram service links Dubai Metro and the Palm Monorail and runs along Al Sufouh Road and Jumeirah Beach Road. It provides access to destinations such as the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lake Towers.

The tram runs for 14.5 kilometres (9.0 mi) along Al Sufouh Road from Dubai Marina to the Palm Jumeirah and Al Sufouh. It takes about 42 minutes to run from Al Sufouh to Jumeirah Beach residences.

In Dubai, to board and ride in a tram, you would need to pay with a Nol card. You can purchase one at any of the tram or Metro stations. A Nol Card can be used by passengers to check-in and check-out of the tram by scanning (tapping) the card at the platform screen doors.

The Tram has a fixed fare of AED 3 (N300) per ride, regardless of the distance travelled. But if you're paying for a ticket with cash,  you would have to pay at a premium.

The trams run every 10 minutes during peak hours and 12 minutes at all other times. A trip along the entire route takes about 40 minutes.

Dubai Tram is fully automated. It provides a vast number of features and services for the convenience of the users. For instance, it is air-conditioned; it has Wi-Fi access throughout its network. It also has a complete mobile phone network. There is also dedicated Tram police to enforce rules.

So, if you’re visiting Dubai, and you plan to stay in Al Sufouh, Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeira, etc., you might need to use the Tram.

The Roads and Transport Authority, commonly known as RTA, a major independent government roads & transportation authority in Dubai coordinates the function of the Dubai Tram.

Autojosh.com takes you to the beautiful city of Dubai, to show you some photos of the fascinating Tram.

Now, why don't we have such mode of mass transit in major Nigerian cities?

Car Talk / 5 Common Places Where Spare Car Keys Are Kept by AutoJoshNG: 5:32pm On Dec 11, 2019

Have you ever been locked out of your Toyota Big Daddy while the engine is still running? Have you ever realised you mistakenly locked your car key in the car when she's about to step in on a first date? At this point, you'll immediately realise the importance of the spare key you probably underestimated up until that moment.

What next? Your brain starts to permutate. Who has an iron hanger there? Do I break the little glass between the rear door and the C-Pillar? Where's the locksmith or panel beater? OMG! Why is this happening to me?

Also, some people are fond of misplacing their car keys. An outrightly missing car key can be emotionally draining, time-consuming and financially unprepared for. For example, someone had to embark on an interstate trip to Lagos to get the spare key of his car.

Obviously, the spare key is something you should handle with caution so it can pull through for you when you need it the most.

Let's look at a few places spare keys can be kept. After reading, don't forget to give us some more tips so everyone can learn from you.

1. Family/Friends
One good way to keep your spare car key is to hand it to a trusted person. This could be your spouse, parent, child or trusted friend. Also, ensure it's someone who is easily reachable and readily available.

2. In Your Wallet/Purse
Do you have a secure wallet or purse that's always with you where ever you go? This may just be a good place to have your spare car key especially if it's a little flat key. Having a bulky key in your wallet is definitely a bad idea. However, a flat key or a key card as seen below will fit in nicely. Some people keep the flat key in their wallet, then hide a functional key inside the car. Although, this is not a good idea for those whose cars use smart keys. Imagine someone breaks into your car, they press the brake pedal and push the start button. Viola! The car is gone in less than 60 seconds. They don't even need to look for the smart key as it uses proximity sensors rather than direct contact.

3. A Safe Place At Home
When it comes to safety, the home is the number one place you'll want to keep your spare car keys. However, safety is not the only consideration when you are thinking of keeping your spare key. The ease of accessing the keys during lockout or emergencies is also an important thing to consider. Imagine you have the spare car keys at home and the house key is locked in your car. How would you resolve this?

4. Office/Place Of Work
If you have a secure drawer or safe at your place of work, the spare key of your car may just have found a safe abode. Before you drop that key in your office, ensure it's a place you can have access to any time of the week.

5. On The Body Or Underneath The Car

Surprisingly, this is one tempting place people hide their spares. They wrap the key around a supposedly safe place underneath the car, using a tape. Alternatively, they place the key in a magnetic box and stick the box to the body of the car. Although these techniques seem okay for the keys of relatively old cars, the same can't be said for recent keys - with more electronic features.

The downsides include: The key may fall off due to bumpy and flooded roads, someone might just find the key with ease, the car may sense that the key is around if it uses proximity sensors, etc.

As keypads, smartphone keys and voice recognition continue to gain more recognition, the need for spare keys will continuously diminish.

Have you ever been locked out or misplaced your car keys? Do you have an ingenious way you keep your spare car keys? Let's hear from you in the comment section below.

Travel / Private Jets Charter In Nigeria: How Much It Costs by AutoJoshNG: 3:47pm On Dec 11, 2019

Private jets are a rare means of transportation. It offers the ultimate travel experience.

Generally, this means of transportation is considered as the exclusive preserve of the nouveau riche; that is, politicians, super-rich celebrities and business people, etc.

One does not need to own a Private Jet to fly one. There are Private Jets that are available for hire.

The need to hire one might be for a number of reasons, and not necessarily for pleasure. A Private Jet could be chartered due to the need to save valuable time. It could be hired for an emergency, such as to airlift someone to seek medical attention, etc.

Indeed, hiring a private jet is not exactly cheap. However, many Nigerians can afford it.

So, how much does it cost to hire a private jet?

Well, the service does not come at a flat rate. The cost is determined by several factors.

For instance, the cost can be determined by factors such as location, aircraft type and size, passenger capacity, timings, and of course the distance of the flight.

In Nigeria, several companies offer private jet charter services. These companies can be found in major Nigerian cities like Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. The cost of hiring their aircraft is similar, though each can come with slight variations.

In this post, Autojosh.com will attempt to throw some light on the cost involved in a private jet charter.

See Also: Private Jets: Neymar Vs. Ronaldo Vs. Messi

Duration

Different private jet charter companies offer different rates. However, one thing that is common to all of them is that the rates are mostly according to the duration (hours) of the flight. In other words, the calculation is per hour.

In Nigeria, most private jet charter companies charge as much as $3,000 – $6,000 US dollars for one hour. So, a $3,000 private hire will amount to approximately ₦1.08 Million Naira.

Note, it takes about 45mins to 1 hour to travel between most Nigerian cities.

In order to have an estimate of the actual cost of hiring a jet, you should contact the customer care section of the jet charter company you want to patronize and ask for a quote.

Things To Know About Flying Private Jets

When flying a private jet in Nigeria, there are certain things you need to know.

For instance, except it is an international flight, you will not need your International passport while flying to cities in Nigeria. However, it is important that you should have other forms of identification such as ID card, etc. You will need it to identify yourself at the checkpoint.

Also, pets are allowed on board a private jet. But the pets must be accompanied by its documentation.

Unlike commercial airlines, private jets have the advantage of operating from a large number of airports which change based on client requirements.

In Nigeria, one can pay for a private jet charter in Naira, but the prefered currency is in US Dollars. One can make payment using their VISA debit and credit cards, MasterCard, Bank drafts/deposit Etc.

In case a flight departure destination is very far from the home base of the jet, the re-positioning costs will be included in the overall charter price.

Lastly, most private jets provide refreshments for their clients/customers on board.

How to Group Charter A Private Jet

There is a popular misconception attached to hiring private jets. And it is that it can only happen if you are a billionaire or a multi-millionaire. Well, that is not exactly true.

For a relatively small amount, one can actually fly in a private jet. Well, this can happen if you are part of a group charter.

For instance, if an hour private jet charter is $3,000, it can be split among 10 friends planning to travel to the same destination. This will leave each passenger with $300 bill (₦ 108,000) to pay.

So, with just N108, 000, you can experience what it means to fly in a private jet.

In conclusion, it is important to say here that the cost of chartering a private jet is negotiable. Most Private Jet charter companies would not mind offering a significant discount than have their aircraft idling away at the hangar.

Do you want to hire a private jet? Then contact us at Autojosh. We will be happy to guide you through.

Roads In Dubai: These Photos Shows How Our Governments Have No Vision (PHOTOS)

Dubai is the most popular city in the United Arab
Emirates. It is also one of the most visited cities in the world.

To achieve its current status, billions of dollars have been invested in the city to make it attractive to foreign tourists. This is expected to enhance economic development and international trade in the city.

One of the strategies employed by the authorities to make Dubai a popular tourist destination is the provision of excellent quality road networks.

In Dubai, the network of roads,  especially the multi-lane highways, are in very resplendent condition.

Earlier this year, a French-based survey ranked Dubai as the second-best city in the world for driving in 2019.

All these, put together, have contributed to making Dubai a popular destination for tourists from all around the world.

In 2018, Dubai received 15.92 million overnight tourist visitors. Out of that figure, 185,000 were Nigerians.

In recent times, Dubai has become a popular vacation spot for Nigerians. It has also become a venue for parties and other forms of rendezvous.

Sadly, to any Nigerian visitor to Dubai, the quality of roads there is always a painful reminder of the total absence of visionary leadership in Nigeria.

Autojosh.com was recently in Dubai. Below are photos of some roads in the city that we captured. Now, compare them to our roads in Nigeria.
