Car Talk / 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB Officially Unveiled (Photos And Details) by AutoJoshNG: 5:04pm On Sep 11, 2019

Bold, distinctive and serious.  These are the characteristics of the new Mercedes Benz SUV - the GLB.

At first glance you will be greeted by powerful proportions that speaks serious off-road prowess and it is very capable too.

Mercedes says this will be slotted a little above the GLA and claims will be more practical and purpose-oriented. The GLB will be Mercedes first small SUV to feature 7 seats. The last row seats can accommodate children. Its more of a young family-oriented SUV. Its platform is a little longer than the GLA to accommodate the extra seat

Riding on the front-wheel-drive platform that underpins the A-class and CLA-class compact sedans, the GLB quite pay off on its "baby G-class" styling that Mercedes was aiming for.

The GLB is an out and out off-road vehicle and its a really good alternative to the more expensive GLE or GLS full-size SUV, stiff handling on corners and its lightweight makes cornering an easy task, thus the reason for the nickname a" baby G wagon".

From the start, there will be 4-engine variants,  ranging from a 1.3-turbo (GLB200),  2.0 (GLB250) and diesel engines which are 2.0 turbo and the top of the range GLB35AMG with a new 2.0 turbo producing 306-hp and does 0-to-60-mph time at 5.1 seconds, and with top speed at 155 mph.

Front or all-wheel-drive configuration (4matic) comes with a 7 or 8-speed DCT gearbox (Dual Clutch Transmission). Rumors indicate a hotter, 400-plus-hp model tuned by AMG will arrive a little bit later during the model’s production run. At the other end of the spectrum, a plug-in hybrid variant and an electric model are allegedly on their way to production, though Mercedes hasn’t publicly confirmed their arrival.

The interior is what we all expect from a typical Mercedes. the layout is easily recognizable and the MBUX (Mercedes Benz user experience) with voice assistance features makes it a fun way to interact with your vehicle. With a simple command like HELLO MERCEDES, you will have access to all its functions and features.

There is a digital cockpit with a 7.0-inch instrument screen and a 7.0-inch centre touchscreen display dominate the dash, the latter allowing access to a multitude of standard-issue tech including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The automaker’s MBUX system with voice control is also standard, as are a suite of driver-assist systems including active braking, crosswind assist, and a rearview camera. Optional packages include blind spot assist, navigation, parking assist, larger 10.25-inch displays, an upgraded Burmester surround system, heads-up display, and much more.

The GLB comes standard with front-wheel drive, but 4Matic all-wheel drive is optional. In Eco and Comfort modes, the steady-state torque distribution is 80/20, front-to-rear. Sport mode shifts that to 70/30, and in Off-Road mode, the nominal torque distribution is 50/50. Opt for an all-wheel-drive GLB and the rather grandly named Off-Road Engineering package comes standard. Along with the Off-Road driving mode, it includes hill-descent control and a screen for the infotainment system that includes gradient and inclination angle readouts.

The boxy GLB has an expressive front end with rectangular design elements, an upright rear end, and a lower body covered in black plastic cladding; the GLB further hints at off-road capability with aluminium skid-plates and side-skirts.  The optional AMG Line body kit turns up the aggression with new bumpers, wheels, and a different grille, but it still has all the requisite SUV body cladding.

As the SUV segment continues to get hotter, Mercedes is playing the right cards by offering a new model that's boxier, younger, and more rugged. Although it's essentially splitting up the segment, the German brand wants to give customers different options to choose from. And the new GLB is being positioned for families who spend their weekdays in the city but like to venture into the wild on weekends.

Car Talk / 2020 Land Rover Defender Returns With A Complete Makeover (photos) by AutoJoshNG: 11:15am On Sep 11, 2019

The 2020 Land Rover Defender gets a complete makeover after almost 40 years of existence. Set to be unveiled at the upcoming 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany, the new 2020 Land Rover Defender (Codenamed L663), switches from body-on-frame construction to an aluminium monocoque derived from the D7 platform of current Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Land Rover Discovery siblings.

Three-door Defender 90 and five-door Defender 110 models have been confirmed so far and a range of commercial variants will debut soon. The new Defender is built for the adventurous and curious, for those who know the value of community and strive to make a difference.

Five passenger seating is standard and an optional front jump seat that doubles as the center armrest can expand that to six. The 110 is also available in a seven-passenger configuration with a small two-seat third row.

The 2020 Land Rover Defender will be offered initially with the choice between a 296 hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a mild hybrid 395 hp 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder with electric motor assist. Fuel economy figures have not been determined.

The Defender’s all-wheel-drive system comes with a two-speed locking center differential while off-road-focused models add a rear axle lock. An optional air suspension system can increase the Defender’s ground clearance from 8.6 inches to 11.5 inches and give it the ability to wade through water up to 35.4 inches deep. The Defender is also capable of climbing, descending and traversing 45-degree grades. An 8 speed ZF automatic transmission is the only gear available for the new Land Rover Defender. However, some off-road enthusiasts are a little disappointed that the new Defender may lack the engagement they always enjoyed from the manual transmission in its predecessors.

The interior layout of the defender is modern and still retains some military feel to it. The next-generation Pivi Pro software is inspired by the latest smartphones and accessed through the central 10-inch touchscreen with an always-on design that provides instant responses, even when starting the vehicle for the first time.

The cabin is trimmed in upscale materials like leather strips on the dashboard and wood rails flanking the center console, but also has body-colored inserts on the door panels for a utilitarian touch.

Five trim levels are available: S, SE, HSE, First Edition (available for the first year) and range-topping Defender X. There are also four accessory packs – Explorer, Adventure, Country and Urban. Buyers of the new Defender have 170 accessories to choose from including a pop-up roof tent to take full advantage of the roof’s ability to support a 300 kg static load.

Do you love this design or you think the old retro design should have been retained like Mercedes-Benz did to the G Wagon? Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

Car Talk / 4 Reasons Why Your Headlight Is Dim by AutoJoshNG: 8:43pm On Sep 10, 2019

Headlights are a very essential component of your car. It helps you see where you’re going when visibility is poor. It also helps alert other drivers of your presence. If your headlights seem dim, there may actually be an underlying problem that needs to be corrected.

Below are 4 reasons why your headlight is dim

1. Bad Bulb:

The most likely cause of a dim headlight is a bad bulb. Headlights don’t blow out, they dim over time, and rarely do both headlights dim at the same rate.

2. Bad Ground:

A bad ground can result in lower than required voltage being delivered to your headlight, which has a particularly pronounced effect on halogen lights. This can be caused by corroded bulb terminals, or a loose or broken wire. Consider wire brushing the terminals or replacing the bulb.

3. Bad Alternator:

Failing alternator is another common reason you may see dim headlights. If you notice that the lights brighten and dim as the engine revs up and down, the alternator should be checked immediately.

4. Dirty Lens:

Many times, headlight lenses can develop leaks, which can cause condensation to form on the inside of the plastic. This water collects dust, which over time dims the light.

Car Talk / 2020 Lamborghini Sian Electric Super Car Unveiled (photos, Details And Price) by AutoJoshNG: 6:11pm On Sep 10, 2019

Lamborghini has surprised everyone with an electric masterpiece. The Sian is the first electric car from Lamborghini and as it is typical of their models, it oozes radicality. The name “Sian” means flash or lightning in native Bolongnese tongue(Italy). From that meaning, it points out that the Sian is indeed a speed demon.

This new supercar from Lamborghini will be unveiled at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany this week.

At the IAA in Frankfurt, the Sian, specifically designed Verde Gea (green), with the interior details in Oro Electrum (electric gold), will be on display.

Its design visualizes the electrified Lamborghini of the future and underlining Lamborghini’s leadership in terms of constantly striving for the highest execution of colour and materials.

It is painted with a very precious multilayer colour containing golden flakes and golden crystals, perfectly complementing the internal design.

The styling of the Sian is similar to the petrol-powered Aventador, but still unique in its own way. The interior is executed in ‘Terra di Sant’Agata Bolognese’ with leather from Poltrona Frau implementing 3D printed parts for the first time in production.

Power comes from the normally aspirated 6.5 v12 from the Aventador but with a hybrid motor underneath. Its outputs 819hp and does 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 350km/h.

This speed record makes the Sian the fastest Lamborghini of all time. The Sian comes in a seven-speed automated manual gearbox.

A 48 volt e-motor delivering 34 hp, has been incorporated into the gearbox to provide immediate response and improved performance: the first time in any low-voltage hybrid that a direct connection has been made between electric motor and wheels. The e-motor also supports low-speed manoeuvres such as reversing and parking with electric power.

There’s no lithium-ion battery on board. The juice comes entirely from the supercapacitor, a setup Lamborghini has used since 2011 in conventional Aventador models to run their giant starter motors.

Its styling is revolutionary and this may be a new design language going forward. In terms of design, the car borrows from the company’s Terzo Millennio concept, which also featured aggressive lines and futuristic LED lights. Lamborghini’s designers also say it takes inspiration from its memorable 80′s supercars.

This supercar will cost a buyer like a Bugatti Chiron; it is valued at$3.6m. That is more than ₦1.2 billion before shipping and duty payment at the Nigerian port.

63 of these cars will be made and each comes with a different feel and uniqueness. More details of this supercar are still unknown, however, from the look of things, all unit have already been sold.

Car Talk / 6 Cars Our Fathers Rocked Back In The Days by AutoJoshNG: 11:13am On Sep 09, 2019
Can you still remember the car your dad drove when you were still a kid? It is something you may not easily forget because it’s kind of embedded in our memory.

You’re about to see some of the cars our fathers rocked back then when we were still young. If you were born before the second millennium, you’re more likely to appreciate this post.

Very few of our dads back then where car enthusiast; most of them just needed a car to take them wherever they want to go and nothing more.

There is a very high possibility your dad owned one of the cars listed in here.

Without any further ado, let’s take a look at the X cars our fathers rocked back in the days.

1. Peugeot 504:

This car was one of the hot cakes back then and was very common. We won’t be wrong if we say it was the Toyota Corolla of those days. Several companies and government parastatals used it as official cars. This car then was a very rugged car suitable for Nigerian roads. Up till today, I am still not happy the car was just limited to 4 gears.

Today, this car and the wagon is used as beast of burden by many local transport companies to carry extraordinarily heavy loads.

2. Volkswagen Beetle:

The Volkswagen Beetle is as old as Methuselah. It is unarguably among the very first mass produced cars to hit Nigeria.

Due to its shape, Nigerians gave it some funny names like “Ijapa” (Tortoise) and “Okpokoro Mbe” (Tortoise shell). The former is relatable to the Yorubas and the later, the Igbos.

Growing up as kids, we found it strange how the trunk was in front of the car and the engine in the rear.

3. Volvo 244 GL:

This is yet another car we can’t afford to miss. This was another hot cake back then. I can’t even imagine how our dads used this car to toast girls back then.

As kids, we heard this car can’t somersault. I don’t know how true this is, but we believed it back then. As a kid, I didn’t like this car much because the wagon was used as hearse for carrying coffin.

4. Mercedes Benz W123:

The Mercedes Benz guys didn’t start pulling weight today; they have been on the game for decades now. This particular Benz bought the hearts of our fathers when they were still in their prime.

It was a very durable car back then.

5. Peugeot 505:

Peugeot needs to be hailed for the excellent work they did to bring forth this car. This car was manufactured by the French guys from 1979 to 1992. It had power windows, power steering and some of it was graced with V6 engine. All thanks to Peugeot for not limiting all of it to just four gears as they did to the 504.

You could see the pride the owners of this car wore on their shoulders while driving this car back then. This Peugeot was another car used by companies and various government parastatals as official cars.

The 505 was Peugeot’s last rear-wheel drive car. This Peugeot is known as the “Work Horse” of Africa today.

The ground clearance is next to none even after loading the car.

https://i1.wp.com/autojosh.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/peugeot-505.jpg?resize=600%2C375&ssl=1

6. Mitsubishi Galant:

I hope you’re not among those wondering how this car made it to this list. The Japanese weren’t left out; they were represented Mitsubishi Galant.

This third generation Mitsubishi Galant was among the cars that stole the hearts of our dads.

Did we fail to mention the car your dad rocked back then? Just kindly let us know the car using the comment section.

Car Talk / 2020 Nissan Juke Unveiled (photos, Details And Price) by AutoJoshNG: 1:39pm On Sep 05, 2019

The new improved Nissan Juke debuts after almost a decade since the model’s inception. The Juke is in a new reinvented segment of small and radically looking SUVs. The 2020 Nissan Juke is bigger and more clever than its predecessor. More than a million Jukes has been sold worldwide and this proves its importance in the small SUV market, although, they remain relatively unpopular on Nigerian roads. Nissan JUKE is back with its unique identity and more character.

The exterior design of the Juke is more captivating than before thanks to its modern look and feel. Larger dimensions and an athletic stance, 19-inch alloy wheels and coupe style ‘floating roof’ design. These attributes give the Juke a new level of practicality. The Juke is lighter than before and this will improve its overall handling. The rare end has been completely modified and it look like the small Nissan Kicks SUV. With a slightly reduced slope on the rear, the rear passengers will now get more leg and head room. Cargo space has also been increased by 20%. Equipped with full LED technology as standard, the latest Juke retains its circular headlamps but with a new Y-shaped signature which complements Nissan’s V-Motion grille.

Power comes from a 1.0 litre 3 cylinder DIG-T (Direct Injection Gasoline Turbo) petrol engine which puts out 115 hp. Honestly this is a tiny engine compared to the 1.6 litre in the previous generation. This is due to stiffer laws against emissions in Europe where the initial set of Juke will be assembled. Power is sent to the wheels via a 6 speed manual and a 7 speed DCT gearbox.

The 8-inch touch screen display infotainment system is just above the eye level and comes with the essentials like On-board Wi-Fi Hotspot, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Nissan’s advanced ProPILOT technology, which offers electronically assisted steering, acceleration and braking, will be available on the Juke for the first time. Designed for highway use in single-lane traffic, ProPILOT makes long commutes and heavy traffic easier.

There are so many customization to pick from, different interior set up, leather seats, Bose Audio system and many other fun amenities. Multiple colour combinations for body, roof and interior upholstery are also available. Exterior personalization is not left out as Tekna+, with customizable bumpers, side sills and 19-inch alloy wheels are standard. The starting price of the 2020 Nissan Juke is expected to be in the range of ₦15m in Nigeria.

What do you think about the 2020 Nissan Juke? Tell us in the comment section below.

Do you remember what the previous generation Nissan Juke looks like? See photos of the first generation Nissan Juke below.

Car Talk / 16 Suvs You Can Buy With ₦4 Million Or Less by AutoJoshNG: 9:39pm On Sep 04, 2019
An average Nigerian would rather buy a foreign used vehicle than a brand new car. One of the factors that scare people away from buying brand new cars is the import duty placed on brand new cars.

Remember you can easily check the price of any car with our car price checker Here.

We at Autojosh made a list of SUVs you can buy if you have up to ₦4 million or less. There are many people out there who prefer SUVs to sedan due to the nature of roads we have in Nigerian. There are several other reasons why they prefer SUVs anyways.

If you have ₦4 million or less at hand and you want to buy a foreign used SUV, here are some of the cars you can go for.

NB: The cars listed here are all foreign used SUVs and not Nigerian used.
They are:

1. Toyota Landcruiser:

If you indeed want to own a Landcruiser and you don’t have much money packed in your bank account, the 2001 model of the Toyota Landcruiser is your best bet. With N3.5million you can get a good one. If you want a higher model like the 2016 model, you’ll need to have up to N20million.

2. Honda Pilot:

The Honda Pilot is one of the most rugged SUVs produced by Honda. With N4million or less, you can get a 2009 Honda Pilot SUV. Other models below 2009 are relatively cheaper when compared to its Toyota counterpart.

3. Toyota 4Runner:

The price of this car varies with year. You can get the 2007 model with N3.7million. Higher models will make you add extra hundred thousands of Naira.

4. Honda CR-V:

N3.5million is enough to get you a 2009 Honda CR-V SUV. N1.9million can get the 2004 model. With N1.6million you can also be a proud owner of a Honda SUV. We are talking about the 2001 model. N1.9million can get you the 2004 model.

5. Toyota Rav4:

N3.5million can get you the 2008 model. The 2005 model can be purchased with N2.5million. Every other model below 2005 falls below N2.5million.

6. Ford Escape:

This is the first American SUV to make it to this list. If you have up to N3.8million, you can comfortably get a 2012 Ford Escape for yourself. Every other model below 2012 falls below N3.5million.

7. Acura MDX:

The old model Acura MDX is one of the cheapest SUVS out there. With N1.8million you can get a very good 2004 Acura MDX. N3.5 million is more than enough to get you the 2007 model.

8. Lexus RX300:

N1.850million to N2.3million can get you a good one depending on the model.

9. Ford Edge:

This is another American SUV you can get below N4million. With N3.2million, you can get the 2008 model Ford Edge.

10. Nissan Xterra:

Nissan Xterra is not a car Nigerians so much like. The demand for the car is not all that encouraging. But if against all these odds you still want to own a Nissan Xterra, you can get the 2005 model with N3million or less. N2million will comfortably get you the 2004 model.

It’s good you know this car doesn’t have decent fuel consumption and it roars more than a lion.

11. Lexus RX350:

We are talking about the 2008 model and not the 2010 model. With N4 million, you can get yourself a good one.

12. Toyota Sequoia:

With N4million you can be a proud owner of 2006 Toyota Sequoia. If that price is on the high side, you can still get the 2001 model at a price around N2.2million.

13. Lexus RX330:

14. Nissan Pathfinder:

The 2009 model and every other model below it fall below N4million mark.

15. Nissan Armada:

N4million or less can get you this big Nissan Armada SUV.

16. Mercedes Benz ML350:

With N4million, you can get a good 2006 Mercedes Benz ML350

Which other SUVs can one get below N4million? Let's know them using the comment section.

Car Talk / How To Prevent Seat Belt Entanglement On Kids by AutoJoshNG: 5:15pm On Sep 04, 2019

Seat belt entanglement is one of the 5 Ways Kids Can Get Hurt When Inside A Car. As we’ve stated before, kids easily get bored and will always reach out to the nearest thing to them to play with.

A child within reach of a seat belt may become entangled if he or she pulls the seat belt all the way out and wraps the belt around his or her head, neck, or waist. In some cases, this resulted to very serious injuries on kids.

Seat belt entanglement can happen if you do not properly restrain your child, for example, if you let the child lie down or sleep on the vehicle seat instead of being properly restrained. Older children who are no longer in a car seat can become entangled by pulling a seat belt all the way out of the retractor or by playing with an unused seat belt.

Below are ways to prevent kids from being entangled by seat belts

1. Do not let children play in or around cars.

2. Always ensure children are properly restrained.

3. Teach children that seat belts are not toys.

4. If a child has an unused seat belt within reach, buckle unused seat belts.

5. Never leave your children alone in or around a vehicle for any reason. Seat belt entanglement can happen in the blink of an eye.

Car Talk / 5 Times You Should Dim The Headlights Of Your Car – VIS by AutoJoshNG: 6:13pm On Sep 03, 2019
According to VIS, these are the five times you should dim your headlights while driving.

1. When approaching vehicles within 150 meters so as not to blind the driver
2. When following closely (within 60 meters) behind another vehicle.
3. When driving on lighted roads
4. When driving in rain, fog, snow, or smoke.
5. When vision is reduced to less than 60 meters.

If you’re a driver, you’ll admit it’s not a good experience to have a vehicle’s full beam into your eyes. It can blind you momentarily and any mishap can occur within that space of time.

Let’s be considerate while driving.

The Lagos State Government is set to unlock 60 identified major highway junctions and corridors critically affecting the free flow of traffic within the Lagos metropolis.

The State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, who made the disclosure during his project assessment visit to Oyingbo Bus Terminal corridor, stated that the traffic challenges which vary from junctions to corridors were even more compounded by the unregulated roadside trading, indiscipline of motorists and illegal parking.

Revealing the locations of the 60 traffic gridlock areas identified across the State, the Commissioner said various strategies will be adopted to clear the logjam, hence the validation exercise preceding the junctions improvement works, planning and resolutions.

He explained further that the gridlock areas will be unlocked in batches of five, starting with Iyana-Ipaja, Yaba/Oyingbo, Ketu, Ikorodu Roundabout and Ajah Junction, adding that the exercise has commenced in earnest with on-the-spot assessment of these areas.

Oladeinde also hinted that the facilities needed for the water, rail and road multimodal transport plan of the State Government are already on ground at Oyingbo for the implementation of the present administration’s seamless transportation policy along the corridor.

While decrying trading activities on major roads, Oladeinde reiterated the State Government’s commitment to bringing sanity to the market environment across the State and solicited for the cooperation of the market leaders and traders in the area, urging them to desist from roadside trading in order to avoid sanctions.

Travel / See The Traffic Advisory On Closure Of Lagos-ibadan Expressway (photo) by AutoJoshNG: 10:13pm On Sep 01, 2019

In view of the imminent closure of inbound Lagos traffic along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for reconstruction and rehabilitation work on the 600km stretch of the corridor to be carried out from Berger (New Garage Bus Stop) – Ogun River (Kara Bridge), scheduled for Monday, 2nd September-Sunday, 15th December, 2019, the general public, particularly the motoring public, is hereby apprised of the need to plan their journey, add more time to their travelling time and take necessary precaution.

From Monday, 2nd September, 2019, inbound traffic (movement) from Kara Bridge to Berger would be sealed off and diverted into the same carriageway along the Expressway conveying traffic outbound Lagos, thereby making both inbound and outbound traffic to be accommodated on the same section of the Expressway. Moreover, traffic will then be diverted back into the road going inward Lagos at Berger intersection linking River Valley Estate, where normal journey resumes inward Lagos.

Furthermore, outbound Lagos traffic would be divided into two (2) lanes, both ways from the intersection linking Isheri/Olowora Kara Bridge, where the road diversion ends and normalcy resumes inward Sagamu.

In the light of the foregoing, the motoring public is hereby admonished to be patient, maintain lane discipline, avoid driving in a direction prohibited by traffic law (One Way), cooperate and show understanding with Traffic Managers (TRACE, FRSC, NSCDC and the POLICE), as they ply the diversion route which has been graded (Ogun River Bridge Underpass), to facilitate, guarantee and ensure free flow of traffic.

Moreover, Julius Berger PLC has assured of measures to assuage the fears of road users by displaying advanced warning signs of road narrowing, speed restriction signs, as well as, make sure that flagmen are always present.

“In addition, flash lights would be displayed at night and provide emergency response crew on standby, just as response time would be minimised by well established lines of communication among various agencies involved in the operation.

“Nonetheless, motorists are advised to ply the following alternative routes, if in haste, to decongest traffic along the diversion route.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTES

Iyana Ipaja/Ota/Ifo/Abeokuta/Sagamu-Benin Ore expressway
V/Island/ Lekki/ Epe/ Ijebu-Ode-Benin/Ore expressway
Ikorodu/ Itoikin/ Ijebu-Ode-Benin/ Ore expressway.

Notwithstanding, TRACE, FRSC, POLICE and the NSCDC, would be strategically positioned along the diversion route to ensure compliance and orderliness, as well as, penalize errant and recalcitrant motorists with the intent of disrupting and traffic flow.”

Travel / 1.6 Million Vehicles Ply Lagos Roads Daily – Transport Commissioner by AutoJoshNG: 11:46am On Aug 30, 2019

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde has declared that over 1.6 million vehicles ply Lagos roads daily and outlined government’s strategies to tackle the effects of high-volume traffic across the State.

Speaking at the 2019 Nigerian Bar Association General Conference in Lagos, Oladeinde revealed that among the 1.6 million vehicles, 226 cars runLagos roads per km compared to the National average of 16 cars per km.

He analysed further that 75,000 commercial ‘Danfo’ buses in Lagos currently cater for about 10,000 public-passenger trips per day while an average of 12,000 public transport trips are generated daily.

The Transport Commissioner opined that the high-volume traffic situation could be addressed through economic, social and environmental strategies, saying that adoption of these strategies simultaneously will reduce delays, improve travel time for business and movement of goods, improve safety, security, social inclusion and quality of life.

He further outlined the strategies that will be adopted to reduce traffic congestion which include the implementation of the Lagos Traffic Law, improvement of 60 noted key junctions through effective deployment of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers and the continuous fixing of the potholes, amongst others.

He added that the multimodal transport policy of the State will also include the completion of the Blue and Red Line Mass Transport movement, development of strategic roads such as the completion of Lagos–Badagry Expressway and completion of Agric–Isawo Road to link Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

While affirming that the ongoing water transportation reforms will not be abandoned, he also noted that plans are afoot to reorganise the water transport operators as well as create economically viable routes and terminals.

The Commissioner said that in line with the bus reform initiative, an additional 820 high and medium capacity buses will be released to enhance public transportation on eight major existing bus routes for better commuting experience by 2021.

He expressed optimism that with all these strategies well developed and managed, there will be an ultimate reduction in travel time, air pollution, waiting time and an increase in job creation.

He stated that the agency was compelled to embark on the clampdown, sequel to a series of complaints received on daily basis from innocent members of the public about criminal activities perpetrated by the illegal commercial motorcycle operators, both early in the morning and late at night.

He said: “We are going to make sure that there is total compliance with the Lagos Traffic Regulations by all commercial motorcycle operators in all our Local Governments and Local Council Council Development Areas as well as by those operating within inner streets”.

“In accordance with the Traffic Laws, every motorcycle operator must wear crash helmets, be above 18 years, not ride on kerb/median/road-setbacks, avoid restricted routes, not carry more than one passenger/pregnant woman/Adult with baby/Child below 12 years, not install any musical gadgets, must wear an apron, not operate beyond 10pm, operate with a rider’s permit and have their motorcycle registered with Government”, he added.

Car Talk / 6 Ways To Avoid Being Ripped Off By Nigerian Mechanics by AutoJoshNG: 12:18pm On Aug 29, 2019

It is paramount to ensure your car is at its optimal operating condition at all times. Even though this regular maintenance will cost you some money, it will make your car not to suffer a catastrophic failure that can milk your pockets dry.

It is a very easy task for dubious mechanics to extort a car owner who does not have a very good knowledge or experiences about cars. Some of these mechanics are not after the well-being of your car, they have an agenda to make money through you. That’s why some of them will make you come back every now and then.

We at Autojosh came up with some simple tips that will enable you get all the right services you are paying for.

Follow these few steps to be on safe hands.

1. Get the basic knowledge about cars:

If you’re among those that can tell apart a radiator and an air-conditioner condenser, this is for you. You need to have the basic knowledge of most of the parts in your car, so the mechanics don’t end up telling you they need to service the wiper blade in the alternator.

In order to protect your wallet, start learning from today. There are a lot of things you can read here on Autojosh. Go through our blog and thank us later.

2. Use a diagnostic tool:

Scanning a car in Nigeria is not all that cheap. Some workshops will charge as much as N5000 or even N10,000 to scan your car. Scanning your car will give you an edge of knowing the actual problem with your car. It will save you a lot of grammar and explanations from the mechanic.

Getting an OBD scanner of your own isn’t a bad idea if you have the money. You will enjoy it on the long run.

3. Identify the reason why you want to take your car to the mechanic:

When you don’t have a diagnostic tool, this is something you should find out. With your knowledge and the signs the fault put out, you should be able to point out what the problem could be.

Is the car misfiring? It could be plug related. Is the coolant in the radiator mixed with oil? It indicates your top/head gasket has been compromised.

When the reason why you want to take your car to the mechanic is very clear to you, you’re on the right track.

4. Ask questions and rely on referrals:

There is this saying that the devil you know is better than the angel you don’t know. Ask your friends, co-workers, neighbors about a very good mechanic they know. These groups of persons are in a good position to share their experiences with mechanics with you. If they felt any of the mechanics cheated them, they will tell you, so you know how to deal with them.

Referrals from friends, family, or colleagues could be the best way to find a good mechanic.

5. Check the prices of the car parts you’re likely to buy:

A bad mechanic won’t leave out any chance to milk you dry. Buying of spare parts is one of the ways they can do you strong thing. When you know that the price of an air filter is N3000, you can’t fall for a dubious mechanic price tag of N5000.

6. Ask mechanics for the old parts:

Some mechanics charge for replacement of parts without changing anything.

Asking for the old parts is one of the ways you can ensure they don’t collect money for new parts and not fix it up in your car. This works well when you are present where they are fixing your car.

Tell them before hand you need those old parts.

When you stick to these tips, the chances of a mechanic ripping you off are minimal. Even though they can still play smart, but it would be milder.

Kindly let us know other things one can do to avoid being ripped off by mechanics.

We hope this helps.

Car Talk / 40 Honda Dashboard Warning Lights And What They Mean by AutoJoshNG: 7:22pm On Aug 28, 2019

There are many warning lights that can illuminate on your Honda car dashboard. These warning lights can come on as a result of one issue or the other.

These dashboard warning lights illuminate to easily get the attention of the driver about something not being right in the car.

The colour of the warning light that comes up on your Honda dashboard could be green, yellow or red.

If you see something green, it’s usually an on or off indicator light, such as your cruise control. The indicator is simply there to remind you that a system is on so that if you should be turning it off, you’ll remember.

The yellow dashboard warning lights represent issues that could get dangerous soon. These lights typically mean a system, or monitoring of the system, has malfunctioned. Technically speaking, low fuel or low tire pressure are warnings that could lead to something much worse if left unchecked, but they don’t indicate an issue that would make your vehicle inoperable.

A red warning light often indicates a serious condition. It is not all of them that mean there is a serious malfunction. Something like seat belt reminder means no harm to your car. Others, like the high-temperature warning, can mean your vehicle will likely have a catastrophic failure if you continue driving.

Below are the warning lights you can see on your Honda dashboard.
