Yesterday, the foremost automobile distributor, CFAO Motors, formally launched the Suzuki automobile brand into the Nigeria market.

The re-introduction of Suzuki auto-brand in Nigeria is the result of the partnership between CFAO Motors and Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan.

In a statement during the event, the Managing Director of CFAO Motors/CFAO Country Delegate, Mr. Thomas Pelletier, said: “the choice of the distribution of Suzuki vehicles in Nigeria is in a bid to offer Nigerians a wider range of top quality and reliable vehicles at pocket-friendly prices affordable cars”.

The ceremony had in attendance several dignitaries and Nigerians celebrities. They included the Japanese ambassador to Nigeria, Kikuta Yutaka, the Executive Director, International Marketing –Suzuki Motors, Koichi Suzuki, the Chairman of CFAO, Gbenga Oyebode, etc.


In his remark, Kikuta Yutaka, the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, affirms the improvement in the Japan-Nigerian business relationship. According to him, “Japan is deeply committed to its bilateral agreements with Nigeria. The relationship was further cemented during President Mohammadu Buhari’s recent meeting with the Japanese Emperor in Japan”.

According to Adebola Ejiofor, the Sales Manager, CFAO, Suzuki Division, several Suzuki brand of vehicles that are currently available in Nigeria. They include Swift, Alto, Baleno, Dzire, Ciaz and Ertiga. The Off-Road Vehicles/Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) are Jimny, Vitara.


According to Ejiofor: “CFAO has now made it possible for Nigerians to own top quality cars at pocket-friendly prices. With as low as N85, 000 monthly, one can own a brand new Suzuki car.”

“The company is offering buyback and exchange of car opportunities for car owners. This is also while providing world-class after-sale services”, she emphasized.


CFAO Motors Nigeria is one of the Nigerian subsidiaries of CFAO Automotive, the largest automobile network in Africa and the French overseas territories. The company is a partner of choice for major international brands.

The official launch of Suzuki in Nigeria took place at the new Suzuki showroom at Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

A guide on how to wear seat belt when pregnant

1. Always wear your seat belt even when in the back seat. The safest type of seat belt to wear is a lap and shoulder belt combination.

2. Place the lab belt below your belly; touching your thighs. Lift belly up, make sure lap belt is low and flat on top of thighs. Never wear the belt above or across your belly.

3. Pull upwards on shoulder belt to make lap belt snug.

4. Shoulder belt should lay between breasts.

5. Tilt steering wheel upwards if possible.

6. Keep vehicle seat as upright as possible. Reclining increases the chance of the lap belt pressing on the uterus in a crash.

7. If you are driving, make sure you keep your belly a safe distance away from the air bag. Slide front seat as far back as possible – to sit as far away from airbag.

8. Never place the shoulder belt under your arm or behind your back.

For decades, open and dirty drainage systems have been a prominent feature of roads and streets in Nigeria’s commercial capital.

The filthy condition of many streets in Lagos State is attributable to the construction of an open drainage system. For some residents, open drainage systems are considered as alternatives to refuse dumps. All these contribute to the notoriously unsanitary condition of Africa's 5th largest economy.

The construction of exposed drainage systems in Lagos State is a culture that has been sustained over the decades. Even the very recently reconstructed Oshodi-Airport road features exposed drainage. See photos of the open drainage on the newly reconstructed Oshodi-Airport Road.

Sadly, these ubiquitous and uncomplimentary sights of open and dirty drainage systems all over Lagos State are what greets and leaves a lasting first impression on first-time visitors to Nigeria.

It is no news that Lagos state is prone to flooding. The supremely notorious blocked drainage systems is the chief cause of flooding on many roads in the state when it rains.

It goes without saying, no city in the world that sincerely desires to be taken seriously leaves its drainage system exposed.

The Ministry of the Environment through the Office of Drainage Services is responsible for the cleaning of the open and dirty drainage system in the state. Unarguably, this agency of the Lagos State government has failed terrifically in that responsibility.

Lagos State is home to about 22 million Nigerians. Lagos is currently home to 65 percent of Nigeria’s businesses, with a presence of over 2,000 manufacturing companies, 200 financial institutions and the largest collection of small and medium enterprises in Africa.

Lagos State, Nigeria, has been voted as the fourth-worst place to drive in the world. This is according to the result of a study conducted by European car parts retailer Mister Auto.

Some factors considered to determine countries’ ranking include the number of cars per capita, traffic congestion, quality of road and public transport infrastructure, road rage, the amount of city road tax paid on a yearly basis, etc.

Pollution or air quality levels was also one of the factors considered. The air quality determines the city’s commitment to providing fresh air and good visibility for its drivers and citizens alike.

Road safety, fatality or rate of car accidents of each location was analyzed. Also, the poll focused on incidents of road rage, in order to paint a picture of the aggressiveness and general driving culture brought to the city by motorists.

Finally, the costs associated with driving in each city were considered. This also includes not only the price of fuel in each location but also the purchase parity of each country to determine how affordable driving was for its inhabitants.

The 2019 edition of the Ondo Auto Rally held over the weekend. The event, which is the third in the series, featured many auto events. One of the highlights of the auto rally was the Idanre Hill Climbing event.

The hill-climbing event was put together by the organizers as a prelude to the automobile fiesta.

Idanre Hill

The spectacular Idanre Hill, or Oke Idanre, is located in Idanre town in Ondo State. The hill of Idanre is one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in Nigeria.

It includes such cultural sites as "Owa's Palace, Shrines, Old Court, Belfry, Agbooogun footprint, thunder water (Omi Apaara) and burial mounds and grounds".

It resides 3000 ft. above sea level and houses a unique ecosystem upon which the cultural landscape has integrated.

On top of the hill, there is a great tree at the entrance of the ancient city of Idanre called the IRAYE TREE, then you can now get prepared to take the steps to the great city beyond the hills of Idanre.


Idanre Hiking Challenge

The Idanre Hill climbing competition, organized as a prelude to the Ondo Auto Rally, had a good number of participants.

The contestants had to run up the 682 steps in between forested paths and bare rock that leads to the top of the hill.

The fiercely contested event saw the winners carting away various prizes.

The oldest person to climb the hill was also presented with a cash prize.

The Ondo Auto Rally is an annual event. It has become one of the most anticipated automobile events in the Nigeria automotive calendar. It also has become a major tourist attraction for Ondo State.

On Saturday, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, was in  Ilara-Mokin, Ondo state. He was there to formally commission a freshly re-constructed road network in the town. The re-constructed network of roads was funded by Chief Michael Ade-Ojo, the Chairman, Toyota Nigeria Ltd, and Elizade Nigeria Ltd.

Chief Michael Ade-Ojo And The Ilara-Mokin Community Development Projects

The construction of the 6km road network is one of various community development projects in Ilara-Mokin embarked upon by  Micheal Ade-Ojo. These projects are designed to gradually transform his hometown from a village to an economically vibrant town.

Chief Michael Ade-Ojo is also a prime supporter of the famous Ondo Auto Rally - a car racing tournaments - which has some of its events held in Ilara-Mokin. He was once spotted driving a Tiger Avon Car during one of the events.

The highly resourceful entrepreneur, Chief Michael Ade-Ojo, for more than four decades, has bestrode the Nigerian automotive sector like a colossus.

Chief Michael Ade-Ojo was born on June 14, 1938, in Ilara-Mokin.

Only 2.5m of 12m vehicles in Nigeria have genuine insurance. This is according to Cornerstone Insurance PLC.

They made this revelation during a campaign to sensitise the drivers on the need to acquire third-party insurance policy as well as expose its benefits to them.

The campaign by Cornerstone Insurance became necessary in order to break the ignorance among motorists on the necessity of obtaining genuine third party insurance policy as well as access its numerous benefits.

According to Pelumi Akindumusire, the Ikeja branch manager of Cornerstone Insurance plc, Ikeja Lagos, “out of the 12 million registered vehicles in Nigeria, only 2.5 million have genuine insurance cover”.

“It is not as if those motorists do not possess insurance certificate, but that, the policy they have is fake and that is why the Insurance industry has looked for a way to use the Nigeria Insurance Industry Database (NIID) to address the challenge,” Akindumusire said.

He also added that the industry also partners with the men of the Vehicle Inspection Services (VIS) and Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to monitor fake insurance policy-holders.

Lagos State government is set to introduce a modern ferry service and operation for the state.

The focus is targeted at transporting Lagos residents, visitors, goods and services on a daily basis using the waterways transportation systems.

The ferries are expected to transport an average of 480,000 passengers via the waterways. The Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) will operate the services.

LAGFERRY recently increased its capacity to 60 passenger boats. They will operate on several routes in Lagos.

Routes that the ferries will ply include Ikorodu-CMS/VI/Apapa, Ojo-Apapa, CMS-Apapa, Badagry-Apapa and Badore-Ijede, etc. It will also incorporate areas like Coconut, Snake Island, etc.

According to the State Commissioner for Transportation, Frederic Oladeinde, LAGFERRY will work hand in hand with Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). This will enable them to incorporate the ferry system into the central ticketing and billing system, in order to coordinate the modes of transportation in the state.

Safety And Security

According to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, safety on the waterways will be approached from two angles.

The first angle will involve a collaboration between security authorities and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA). They will work together to man outposts and boat escorts where necessary.

The second approached would require the clearing of water hyacinths and cleaning the waterways. This responsibility falls on LASWA to open up more routes and increase the confidence of the residents.

Also, the staff of LAGFERRY are also being trained in health, safety, and customer service modules ahead of the launch.

The Lagos Ferry Service will commence commercial ferry operations across waterways in the state next month. It will be launched in commemoration of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s 200 days in office.
