Leonbonapart:Yea. Not really calling for an argument, just pointing out why you shouldn't make such bold and unsubstantiated claims especially as a diss to science. Have a nice evening. |
Leonbonapart:Lol. I don't remember raising the topic of the origin of the universe and living organisms. I was referring to your claims of virgin birth et. al. |
KahlDrogo:And so? Must you you drag yourself in the same mud? Must you stoop this low? |
Leonbonapart:You say these with so much confidence that someone would be tempted to think you actually have any reliable and empirical evidence that those things actually happened, except that they are solely accepted claims based on faith. Science may have its limitations, but I've not seen any of y'all Bible thumpers do a tenth of what it has helped humanity achieved. |
KahlDrogo:This is childish, embarrassing and it is soiling the image of this forum. Sometimes, I wonder if those of you doing it are 13years old and below but then again, my 13years old kid brother wouldn't be caught doing this. |
Jhaytee4all:Sighs... |
Jhaytee4all:Can anyone be this pathetic? Editing my own comment? Come on... |
Jhaytee4all:Actually, there is only one true living God, The Invisible Flying Calabash. Jehovah is just one of the many gods made up by stubborn and foolish humans. Joyfully snubbed and ignored, yet you quote and reply, I'm not sure you know the meaning of that sentence, or those two words there. |
IdiAmin2:Majority of the masses will follow the hogwash till they die, unfortunately, is a pitiable reality. It is true atheism or freethinking doesn't automatically turn you to an Einstein but it takes a great thinker to actually begin to reflect on his/her beliefs and investigate how they were arrived at. Fear and ignorance. Religious idiocy thrives on those two and our parents are/were victims just like many others. We are in the age of enlightenment and no one shall cower us with the fear of an unknown, or worse, imaginary afterlife. Never again. |
How did I ever believe this hogwash? |
themonk:I'd very much like to share this on my FB wall. Do I have your permission? |
You don't know anything, all of you mocking Yahweh are going to roast in a celestial oven while Yahweh enjoys the smell of your melting skin. Wait, won't our skin have decayed here on earth, what the hell is gonna be roasted? |
mrmrmister:No be punishment, na reward. Mental gymnasts. |
Freedom. Education. Exposure. I think at some point, every atheist before abandoning his/her god would have asked him/herself this questions... 1. Why do I even think there is god? 2. What makes my own version of god more authentic than others'? 3. Are the stories I've been fed from childhood really through? (Now my kid brother has been asking me this particular question for some thine now). These are just some of the many questions whose answers lead many away from the god idea, some to deism, some to other religions and others to atheism. Something we can all agree on is that the way religion is played in Nigeria leaves much to be desired, but that is not enough reason, the worse that can lead to is a rise in the number of irreligious theists. |
This is one of such occasions when you wish there actually is a god, who really gives a fyck. |
eyeview:you should go on to social platforms other than nairaland, most atheists prefer to criticise Christianity because most were once Christians. it is that simple. When you visit other platforms, you'll realise ex-muslims criticise Islam with the same fervour as many Christians do Christianity here. To me, both Christianity and Islam are kids of the same parents, just that one as them woke up to the reality of the modern times, hence its embrace of liberalism. We all know the record created by Yahweh in the Old Testament, it is only surprising that that same god who would go on a killing spree at the tip of a hat suddenly becomes a gentle kindhearted lover who hates to see even a fly gets hurt. The evolutionary deity. |
johnydon22:You don't always get to find ignorance and arrogance in the same person, but I applaud the o.p. for such a commendable feat. |
benzics:no sane person can defend the bible without adjusting it here and there, adding a few things and chipping off some rough edges. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, what you have isn't the bible again. Explains why there are so many denominations and sects in Christianity. Everyone with his or her own explanation. |
Certitude:I can relate with your first paragraph. There is virtually nothing an unbeliever faces, that a believer doesn't. We all fall sick, lose loved ones, suffer set backs s in careers and relationships, etc. I am atheist and I still top my class, in spite of the Muslims and Christians in my class who think they deserve the best because they serve the true god. And again, what sort of god chooses to prove himself to a skeptic by messing up his/her life? Why should your god make things difficult for me just to prove his/her/its existence when there are better, effective and convincing way of doing just that? This part actually bothers me about theists, Christians especially, makes one wonder the amount of damage religion actually does to people. |
ValentineMary:This my friend, is the reason why I've never taken deism serious. To me, there is only a little difference between it and theism. There is nothing wrong in admitting we don't know yet. I usually tell people, science is our best shot at finding out the origin of life and the entire universe, certainly not religion. Why? Because the former is built on knowledge and evidence, while the latter is built on ignorance and assumptions. |
I stopped bothering about these folks already. Conversing with them can induce migraine. I wouldn't bother myself if they could just keep their folly to themselves, but no, they won't. How can anyone point to the bible as evidence of anything? FYI, The bible proves nothing, except that some people wrote a book. My advice these days is this, read books on history, biology and physics. Then maybe you'll actually learn something. |
sircrabo:We may not believe in god, but that doesn't take away our sense of justice. I for one am finding this whole saga fishy, the timing is suspicious. Moreover, this pictures do not prove anything. Seems to me like he is getting punished for stepping on some big toes. But you never can tell, so let's all just observe as it all unfolds. |
Raphael81:Like I always say to theists, stop wasting your prayers on mundane things. Millions of children around the world could use your god's intervention. Hundreds die daily, from diseases, war and hunger. Why don't you tell/pray to your god to do something about that. oh, I forgot, he is busy preparing the lake of fire. How does that sht even works? So Mr. prayer warrior, whenever you wanna pray to your sky daddy, remember to actually ask for things the world needs, like the cure for cancer, clean water for millions of African children, and since you believe the devil is the cause of all evil, let him just defeat him once and for all so that we can all have a happy ever after. |
Raphael81:I am god myself. So no, but thank you. |
Raphael81:Home to what if I may ask? |
It is called indoctrination friend. A lifetime of brainwashing is not something that can be easily repaired within a few weeks. My only concern is this, don't leave Christianity because you think Yahweh has disappointed you, or because your prayers weren't answered. This is because atheism doesn't promise you anything. There is no magic fairy, but there is no Bleep.ng devil/Satan to stop you. Analyse your faith/Religion critically, read books, especially on history, physics and biology. Question your faith critically, unemotionally. Study Christianity from an objective point of view, don't be afraid that Yahweh will strike you dead if you ask questions, he won't, he can't. Study other religions too, you will be amazed by the things you will find out. Finally, don't stop going to church. Believe in yourself and what you can achieve if you set your heart and hand to it. Begin to develop yourself, learn to depend on yourself, that way, the disappointments will vanish. |
Do you believe in Thor? Odin? Ra? Vishnu? Krishna? i doubt. This shit can be really frustrating. The reason why you don't believe in other gods is the reason why I don't believe in yours and all others. You can't really blame someone for not believing you can fly if you can't prove same to him/her, it is really that simple. But no, theists will rather kill themselves for not sharing in their delusion. And quit with that "it is because they want to sin and not be held accountable" shit, it is really getting stale. |
akintom:I don't think it does. Poor holy spirit. I think we have enough evidence in the last year to conclude that the holy spirit doesn't see farther than science can. |
CatfishBilly:There are so many questions, yet little or no answers. Yours is just one of them. Yours is an intelligent deduction, but the problem is that it is merely a speculation, or at best an assumption, and students of science know how dangerous those can be. Like many atheists will posit, if the complexity of the human body and nature in general is the reason why they need a god, then how did that god come about? Complex as he/she/it is. And we could always explain the universe with that same assertion. if god could exist without a creator, then why can't the universe come about without a creator? Remember, these are all just assumptions. |
Wilgrea7:It is hard to discuss with theists without becoming argumentative about it. Mostly because they start assuming they know everything about you and the reason why you left the faith. Only few are capable of concentrating on the topic of discussion. The rest just sign off promising to pray for you, methinks they should channel their prayer to more important things. If you consider pointing out the obvious flaws of Christianity 'ridiculing,' then I guess I am guilty as charged. |
And how much is one litter of PMS? |
CatfishBilly:I've always considered that path, but what I ask myself is this; would I consider deism if I didn't have a religious background? I think it is better to seek for answers on a clean slate, this is because a preconceived notion or belief that there is a god, albeit an unreligious one, will most likely render our findings concerning the origin of life and the universe subject to bias and subjectivity. I am atheist, until I am fully and undoubtedly convinced to become otherwise. |
