The Senator elect for Anambra Central senatorial district, Hon Uche Ekwunife has rebuffed pressures being mounted on her by elders and some political stake holders in the District to renounce her mandate for Senator Chris Ngige who is also from the district. Ekwunife, who won the senatorial seat in the March 28, 2015 National Assembly election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party( PDP), by defeating Victor Umeh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance ( APGA) and Chris Ngige of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), has since been under pressure to renounce the mandate for Ngige, for the purposes of a South Easterner clinching the position of Senate President in the coming 8th Senate. Fielding questions from journalists yesterday in Abuja at the just ended 4- day induction course held for federal lawmakers elect, for the 8th National Assembly, Ekwunife confirmed the pressures but categorically said that she would never succumb to that . She said: “Yes, there has been immense pressure from various quarters in the Anambra central senatorial zone and by extension, Anambra State, on me to renounce the popular mandate given to me by the people of the senatorial district for somebody ( Ngige) I defeated flatly for reasons of power sharing they are not even sure of. “Even if they are sure of whatever position they want the person they are pressurising me to step down for, I will never take that from them because the mandate as far as I am concerned is far, far bigger than being sacrificed on the altar of power sharing.” Pressures mounted on Ekwunife in this regard, arose out of the political reality that non of the 15 senators elected from the South East for the coming 8th Senate, is a member of the APC, the party whose senators-elect, are expected to form the leadership of the Senate , having won 60 out of the available 109 seats . The calculations of those who mounted pressures on Ekwunife to renounce her mandate for Ngige were premised on Ngige being an APC senator already and with ranking status he would have attained in the senate if allowed to return, would have been in the best position to clinch the position of Senate President, being from the zone the position was originally zoned to by the party before the general election, the outcome of which produced no single senator from the area on the platform of APC. It would be recalled that even the South South Geo- political zone where the party would have considered for the position after the South East, the only senator elect on the platform of APC from the zone is a first timer, a development that is making the party to be looking at the directions if North Central or North East Geo- political zones since North West and South West Geo- political zones already have the President elect and Vice President elect respectively. http://madailygist.com/senate-presidency-i-wont-step-down-for-ngige-ekwunife-read-more/ |
sincerenigerian:You are just trying in vain to defend INEC. But why don't you allow INEC to defend itself? For your information, in the north here it is only women that decorate their hands with ink. Men don't do that here. Now that you are basing your line of defense on the fact that it was only the women with inks on their thumbs that were turned down by the card readers, what about the men with no inks on their fingers but were yet turned down by the card readers? The card readers failed to authenticate the thumb print of many men and women in kano today, and not only women as being falsely spread by the op. |

The defection took place at the PDP Women’s wing Presidential Rally in Umuahia, Abia State capital. According to Prince Fred Eke Idika, PDP government in Nigeria has done well generally and the transformation agenda of Mr President deserves continuity. Therefore, joining the PDP was the best option for him and his teeming supporters. He pledged his support for Okezie Victor Ikpeazu and other PDP candidates in Abia State, describing the PDP gubernatorial candidate as the right man to drive the vehicle of development from May 29, 2015. http://dailypost.ng/2015/03/05/abia-apcs-deputy-gubernatorial-candidate-defects-to-pdp/ |

@op, just as Obasanjo is busy deceiving nigerians, you are also busy deceiving us on nairaland. What is the name of your "popular man of God"? Where is the source of your news? |
Tinubu:this is not a certificate, it is a statement of result. Anyone can get a statement of result from a principal friend even if u did not write WAEC. |
Obiagelli:op, is this a certificate or statement of result? |
aniplus:the burden is on you to prove to us that those vehicles were vandalized by PDP members. |
Op you are funny. Do you think everyone on nairaland is a kid? There is nothing in your picture to suggested PDP involvement. Also, there is nothing in your picture to show those vehicles belong to Samsung. Please you can do better than this. |
bilms:is Deji Adeyanju the spokesman of mr president? Is he the spokesman of the federal government? Did he make those statements on behalf of the federal government? You need to clarify these issues before rushing here to mislead people. |
Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State on Wednesday, in what is deemed a major faux-pas on his part has tasked Lagos residents to resist the idea of voting for Mr. Jimi Agbaje the PDP governorship candidate for being too old to rule the state. Mr. Jimi Agbaje born March 2, 1957 is currently 57 years old. Governor Fashola made this remarks at the Lagos West senatorial campaign of the APC governorship candidate, Mr Akinwumi Ambode, which took place at Sky Power Play Ground, Ikeja. that: “Today, at 52, I am counting the number of black hair on my head. Akinwunmi Ambode is the man that can do it. If you put an old man there, he cannot do it. If you call him in the night, he may not pick your calls,” he warned. The controversial remark has prompted several campaign groups affiliated with the General Buhari campaign organization to embark on strategic meetings since last night with the aim of controlling the damage caused by the statement as conversations on the APC Presidential and VP candidates age who are far older than Agbaje and with more daunting assignments, have been reawakened. According to Fashola, the task of governing Lagos State was required age to be on the side of the candidate and vigour on the part of the person at the helm of affairs, recalling that in 2007 when he took over governance at age 44, he could count the number of grey hair on his head. http://www.reubenabati.com.ng/2015-01-16-FASHOLA-DESTABILIZES-BUHARI-acirc-S-CAMP-SAYS-AGBAJE-57-IS-acirc-TOO-OLD-TO-RULE-LAGOS-acirc-AT-IKEJA-RALLY.html |
A Redeemed Pastor, Bribena Efiye, has taken a position on the current political battle being waged within the house of God as Nigeria’s 2015 tension- soaked elections steadily draw closer. “As a pastor in the RCCG, I will not vote for Buhari simply because he has picked Osinbajo as his running mate,” Efiye unequivocally stated in an interview published by Nigeria’s Daily Sun. “One can see the APC trying to launder the image of someone who has consistently allied himself to religious fundamentalism,” he continued. “A case in point is Buhari’s utterances in the run up to the 2011 general elections where he categorically said that Muslims should not vote for Christians and that Northerners should not vote for a Southerner,” Pastor Bribena proceeded. “That, for me, is a very serious issue. So, the fact that Prof Yemi Osinbajo, who is a pastor in the RCCG, was picked as his running mate does not take care of that issue. Rather, it makes one to believe that picking Osinbajo is a deliberate attempt to launder Buhari’s image. APC is only trying to pull wool over the eyes of the Nigerian electorate…” Efiye insisted that Redeemed General Overseer Pastor, Adeboye had not placed his political allegiances in any political party despite reports that he gave his blessing to Professor Yemi Osinbajo to run as the vice presidential candidate of Buhari. “The propaganda machinery of APC is only trying to create the impression that the GO of the RCCG and the Church have backed Buhari because he picked Osinbajo as his running mate. There is nothing that is further from the truth… The G.O. has made it clear that he is father of everybody because he has children in both PDP and APC.” In a statement also attributed to Efiye, the Redeemed Pastor further accused APC of deliberately attempting to cause division in the church by their actions. “I want to advise the propaganda machinery of APC to please leave the church out of the murky of politics,” he said in a statement also published by Nigeria’s Daily Sun. The pastor was referring to a ‘faceless group’ who called for a national prayer rally in Lagos but actually had the ulterior motive of mobilising support for APC. “They shouldn’t drag the church into politics because if they do, the church will become divided. We don’t want what is happening in Enugu State to happen,” he concluded. http://dailypost.ng/2015/01/16/rccg-pastor-says-will-not-vote-buhari-osinbajo/

An Ogoni group, the Ken Saro Wiwa Associates has debunked reports making the rounds in the media that Ogoni people have adopted the All Progressives Congress, APC Presidential candidate, General Mohammadu Buhari. The group warned political parties, particularly the APC to stop the politicization of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) report, which it said the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan has started implementing. The group berated Buhari who had promised to remedy all problems associated with oil exploration in the Niger Delta, including the restoration of the Ogoni environment during his visit to the oil rich kingdom as part of his campaign activities. In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Chief Gani Topba, it reminded Buhari that he was a federal Commissioner of petroleum and head of state at some point and never remembered to solve the problem of the Ogoni people. “Mohammadu Buhari was at different times federal commissioner of Petroleum Resources and head of state of Nigeria under whose watch the harmful environmental degrading industry practices were in place, and yet he did not do anything at the time to align industry standards with best practices in the world in spite of the clamor by Niger delta activists like Harold Dappa Biriye and Isaac Adaka Boro. “Buhari served in the Abacha regime as head of the defunct PTF which was saddled with the responsibility of cushioning the effects to Nigerians of the attendant hardship which the populace faced from that government’s partial removal of subsidy on prices of refined products. “There is no evidence that projects were sighted in Ogoni land by PTF in spite of the fact that Ogoniland is major contributor to refined oil and foreign exchange earnings”. The group further warned political parties to stop the practice of dragging traditional rulers into partisan politics with a particular reference to the visit to HRM King, GNK Giniwa Gbenemene Tai, stating that it is such acts that increases “demystification of the traditional and chieftaincy institution in Ogoniland and other parts of the country”. The group said apart from the adoption of the UNEP report, President Goodluck Jonathan has set up ministerial/multi-stakeholder committee to review the report and make implementation recommendations and that the President has also set up the HYPREP committee as a palliative measure. http://dailypost.ng/2015/01/15/ogoni-people-not-endorse-buhari-kswa/?wt=3 |
Hmmmm........ Wonder shall never end. Drinking of beer is not a crime in Nigeria, but drinking of beer is a crime in kano, Nigeria. What a mystery! |
Kolade354:did they conduct any referendum before imposing sharia on the people? |
The Kano State Hisbah Board said it destroyed 326,151 bottles of beer out of the 363, 853 it confiscated from members of the public in the past three years. This is contained in a statement issued in Kano on Saturday by the officer in charge of operation at the board, Sani Nasidi. The statement noted that the destruction of the commodity was carried out in three phases within the period under review. “In the first phase 42, 000 bottles were destroyed while in the second and third phases 40,000 and 244,151 bottles were destroyed respectively’’, the statement said. The statement indicated that there were a total of 197, 173 bottles of beer that were yet to be destroyed by the board. “These remaining bottles of beer are being kept at some of the Local Government areas where they were impounded and they would be destroyed at a later date. ‘’But the other bottles of beer were destroyed at Hawan Kalibawa in Dawakin Tofa Local Government area of the state’’, he said. The statement explained that the special operations were carried out in collaboration with the eight Local Government Areas that made up Kano metropolis. The statement, which commended other security agencies in the state for their support and cooperation with the board, called on them to maintain the tempo. It, however, called on the state government to provide the board with the necessary facilities particularly operational vehicles to enable it discharge its duties more effectively. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/174605-kano-religious-police-destroys-326-151-bottles-beer.html

theV0ice:did Buhari buy the weapons used by his army or did he inherit them from his predecessors? Why didn't he equally arm the army for the benefit of his successors? |
ayukdaboss:my dear the post was actually talking about some imaginary deals signed, but we are not interested in that. We are only interested in the amount of weapons added to the nigerian army weaponry during the regime of Buhari. But wait a minute, why are you over-labouring yourself bearing another man's burden? I think it is Buhari's burden to defend himself. Buhari is alive today and why don't you allow him to defend himself? |
theV0ice:a question was first thrown to Buhari. Let Buhari shame Jonathan by cleverly responding to Jonathan's challenge then Buhari can now throw his own questions to Jonathan. |
Adminisher:this is not a matter of someone being a decorated general or not. Tell Buhari to give a breakdown of how much he allocated to defence in his budget and also how much he spent on purchasing weapons as well as the number of weapons he purchased during his tenure as head of state. This is a democracy and there is no need to keep things in secret any more. There is need for insults, please. |
Accuses former head of state of not arming the military |
President Jonathan who was addressing a crowd of party supporters at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos noted that Buhari does not have confidence in Nigerian women . He further accused the former Head of State of paying no attention to women while he was the Head of State. According to President Jonathan, Buhari did not appoint a “single woman” in his cabinet, adding that a vote for Buhari will send women back to the kitchen where they will stay and die.

you mean there was no oil money during Buhari's regime as head of state? You also said that Buhari was oil minister. If there was no oil why did we have oil minister? I'm sure you are not in touch with reality. I also guess you don't know the meaning of achievements, but let me help you. During Obasanjo's regime, Nigeria was granted debt relief by the Paris club of creditors. This means that 60% of Nigeria's external debt totaling around $20 billion was written off by the creditors . This is a verifiable fact. During Obj's regime the telecommunication was successfully liberalized. Those are some of Obj's many achievements. As for Jonathan. In economy, the GDP increased to above $500 billion and thus making Nigeria the biggest economy in Africa. As a result of the rebased GDP estimates, Nigeria is now ranked as the 26th largest economy in the world, and the largest economy in Africa. It now has peer countries such as: Argentina (ranked #25), Austria (ranked #27), and South Africa (ranked #28).this is a verifiable fact. Infrastructure: under Jonathan, the railway sector has been revitalized. Also, 1. Transportation: Lagos to Kano rail – Fixed and running with new coaches added 2. Enugu – PH – Maiduguri Rail – Fixed. To be commissioned soon 2. Aladja – Ajaokuta Rail – Fixed and tested. To commence full operation in new year 3. Key Benin NNPC depot – Fixed and running 4. Onitsha river port – Fixed and ready 5. Second Niger Bridge – Ongoing with Sure-P funds 5. Onitsha Owerri Road – Fixed. Smooth sail 6. Owerri – PH Road. Ongoing. Almost complete 7. Benin – Lokoja – Abuja Road – Ongoing with work from two ends simultaneously. Road being expanded to 10 lanes at some sections. 8. Ibadan – Ilorin Road – Fixed and smooth sale. Don't forget the giant strides in the agricultural and education sectors. Time and space will not permit us to list them all here. These are also verifiable facts. These are some of the many achievements of the Jonathan administration. Now, I challenge you to list the achievements of Buhari as head of state. Try to give facts and figure and also be specific. Regards. |
