And, you can also earn great gifts from your wedding ceremony during these periods


3. DON’T HAVE YOUR WEDDING ON WEEKENDS
Especially Saturdays, yea, you heard me right. Fix your weddings during the working days when most folks are in their offices and places of work working their strengths out. However, I gave this idea a second thought, in case you are a man of the people, you can fix it on Wednesdays. But, if you are econaira (commonly tagged as stingy guys), fix your wedding on a Monday morning, but, don’t blame me if the turnout is too low, but I’m very sure, with the current rate of unemployment and Nigerian economy, you’ll never walk alone! You will still see less than 100 people. (My prophecy for you)


4. LIMIT YOUR GUESTS:
You are operating on a low budget yet, you distribute your wedding invitations like posters everywhere to everyone, definitely you are cutting your wedding coat above your body size, you are actually inviting debt or shame to your wedding. You can have your wedding unannounced to many people and organize a Facebook event to share the photos to your friends. It’s kind of cool; I have seen this idea working severally.


5. DO NOT BORROW TO FINANCE YOUR WEDDINGS:
Like they said, “cut your coat according to you size” but I will also tell you to cut it according to your materials available. Remember, the wedding is about both of you guys happiness, what’s the point of hitting the bottom rock as a newlywed? It doesn’t make sense, you will finally looks absurd which I know is what you’re trying to avoid in the first place. Debts aren’t cool, at all.


6. DO NOT OFFER ENDLESS FOOD AND DRINKS:

The best way to do this is to indicate it on your wedding card, specify the opening and closing time. This idea can save you good amount of money from excessive extra feedings, hotel bookings for guests and many other stressful norms. Save yourself.


7. DON’T SPEND EXCESSIVELY ON YOUR WEDDING DRESSES:
I have been trying to understand the reasons behind all this pre-wedding events which can cost crazy amounts of money, the sky scraper wedding cakes, and even designer wedding dresses, they are all nothing but materials, they do not even guarantee your happiness or successful marriage. Don’t oppress yourself my lovely couple to be.


8. HAVE YOUR CEREMONY AND RECEPTION AT THE SAME VENUE:
like seriously? As in, you’re having your wedding ceremony at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja and your reception at Eko Hotel in Lagos. Hello? Don’t let your one or two day event pronounce you to lifetime debt. Have your memorable wedding right in the compound of your house, churches or mosques, they can save you a good amount of money.


9. LET'S GO TRADITIONAL!
Yes, amala, eba and tuwo can save your purse, and they make your wedding to be lovely. You can also indicate this on your wedding invitation to let your guests know that your wedding is unique, as in, you are having “Ankara style” wedding. I’m surely going to try this out some day.

*first of all, I'm a blogger addict, lol, I hardly pays attention to anything that would cost me money when I can it free. (although, not all free packages are worth it). as a newbie, I will advise u to pick blogger because of no cost of installation( or very very minimal) but on WordPress, you will need hosting, and if you are not conversant about it, u will have to pay web designers bucks to do that. blogger doesn't requires hosting but WordPress does. the lowest WP designer I hv come across charges 8k +.

*You can also easily use your own domain which u already have on blogger without much ado, I just verified my during d weekend, it takes less than 24 fr everything to be fully up.

Personal finance in Nigeria is something that may sound very strange to an average citizen of over 173.6millions Nigeria because our mindset towards financial management is very poor. Our mindsets and beliefs actually made so many people to be poor and remains poor. In all parts of the entire world (especially in Nigeria), managing and planning our own personal resources (such as finance, time, relationships etc) efficiently is a very big problem and it will continue to, until we change, learn and develop new creative mindset around money and other resources. I have come across tens if not thousands of Nigeria who do tells me that in order to be financially independent you need to belong to at least of these calibers of individuals:
1. Your parents must be rich to inherit fortunes;
2. you must have a five to six digit job;
3.the wildest of all, you must be a cultist, a ritualist or even a big time scammer
(yahoo boy)
4. and the list goes on and on.

But, actually making this Naira is not that daunting or complicated as the world paints it but mastering it is what I actually see as the biggest problem that we have, even if you are making some 6-figures salaries, living an okay life, saving some monies in your retirement plan account or pension scheme, you may still end up working black and blue after your retirement to survive. The bottom line here is MASTERING NAIRA WORTH MORE THAN MAKING NAIRA! Believe me.

Without much ado, here are my ten (10) principles about your personal financial management;


1.DRAW A LINE BETWEEN WHAT YOU EARN AND WHAT YOU SPEND:
There are actually two things here, what you earn and what you spend and there is a wide margin between these two phrases in everyday life of Nigerians. The first reason why you may be finding your financial in trembling state from total collapse is because, you can't actually define what you earn and what you spend, how much you earn and how much you spend. Now, you have two options, earn more naira or spend less naira! But, as a Nigerian and considering the lifestyles most “ Naija ” choose, spending less can be difficult because, we sees that like we’re losing our dignity before the eyes and minds of the society (but, as for me, cutting down some unnecessary spending is much e easier, you don’t need to please anyone, you’re the architect of your own life). But, if you need to earn more, you will need to have passive incomes generation schemes (sources of incomes even when you are sleeping). Let me lead you to number two principle;



2. FIND OTHER SOURCES OF INCOME:
Mastering your finance entails being independent, you need multiple streams of income; you need passive incomes in order to stand tall in your league. You can invest in real estate, profitable shares and stocks, and other businesses or you can earn extra naira online through many ways, learn a new skill, investing in small business ideas. You just to be dedicated on these passive incomes generation tools; they are more of long-term investments and also require deep research. But, do not put all your eggs in one basket, it’s very risky. Diversify your investment.



3.HAVE YOUR PERSONAL BUDGET.
Can you actually be financially buoyant, debt free and have your spending under control without personal budgets? It’s certainly very unlikely to happen, imagine a country or organization without a budget, it’s definitely not an organization. Take some time at the end of every week or month or even year to map out your financial goals. You need to do some simple calculations on your estimated incomes and expenditures; you’ll need to fill in the gap of your excesses with good choices. You can learn how to create a simple budget (I will soon write on that, keep your fingers crossed) and have your finances under control. How can you perfectly master and control your naira without mastering your budgets? I don’t think so as well, you need to plan well and know your strengths and weaknesses before taking some decisions. Budget is the back bone of your financial freedom.


4.SAVE AND INVEST:
Now that you can earn more and you can manage to cut down your spending a bit, you need to save and you have to invest. My dad will always emphasize on this many times, “if you want to be the man, you need to save, and earn more to save!” but, savings alone doesn’t actually guarantee your financial freedom in 21 st century, you’ll need profitable investments to do that. Interestingly, savings prevents you from been flat broke and bankrupt on some uncertain and unforeseen circumstances. Now look around very well, there are thousands of business opportunities here in Nigeria that you can invest your savings in and be comfortable on your returns (I have published some here on Naira Insider), Check around. The only difference between an investor and others is the ability to see and foresee problems, then turning them to real money-spinning projects. Entrepreneurs spirits is the ultimate recipe of financial freedom, you need to identify challenges in your area and turn them into Multi-Million Empire with time. Savings and Investments are very crucial; but again, don’t put all your eggs in one basket!



5.AVOID BORROWING AND DEBT ( AT ALL POSSIBLE COST):
Don’t borrow what you will you’ll need for your long term need, have personally involved in some creepy borrowing cases in my early career but one thing I will tell you about them is this, they aren’t funny! The society try to make you believe that you can’t survive without it, they will tell you that Billionaires like Dangote and others borrow money and even Government! Well, these billionaires don’t borrow directly, their companies do (for calculated investment clause), that is a legal entity and the rule of ownership and separation is clearly stated for the literates, but a common Nigerian doesn’t see or understand this. Hence, they run themselves into huge debts hoping to recover soon; those simple borrowing habits can eat up a significant part of your earnings for a long period. Now, in simple term, avoid, unnecessary borrowing when you can buy it, avoid debt when you can invest and work your way out, avoid frugal spending, avoid credit cards; they have their advantages, but they can work against you mercilessly if you misuse them.


6. CHOOSE THE BEST LIFESTYLE:
I always emphasis on this, enjoy your life but don’t be reckless, Yes, making money comes with choices including your lifestyle, but be wise in choosing your lifestyle, do not live to impress but live to impact positivity in things you do. Once an average Nigerian step up in his/ her earning, you will see grooving and reckless behaviors. You need to make choice of a better lifestyle to let you focus and determined in your quest to be successful and achieving your wildest dreams.


7. TIME:
Finally, I feel like I should add this to the list out of the context of this write-up. Make most out of your times, plan your time, it is a limited resources. I always wish I add more time on many occasions. Learn to manage your time resourcefully; engage in constructive thoughts, activities, and activities. Plan your day, schedule and evaluate yourself, your financial information and your business. Do not waste your time on unnecessary causes rather invest your time in valuable projects. Remember, time and tide waits for no man.

1. Project Management
Aside from IT, project managers work in engineering, healthcare, and construction. They are responsible for overseeing the completion of a project — on budget, and on time. It's a high-pressure career, but the salary is great (average $89,000 for entry-level). Convert that to Naira and see jaw dropping bucks!Fortunately, you don't have to quit your day job to earn your certification. The average cost varies widely, but reputable UC Berkeley lists it as around $5,600 .



2. Microsoft Certified IT Professional
My friend Chad, who has a degree in IT, obtained this Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certification on his own, reasoning that "I thought it might be helpful." Upon completion, he showed it to his manager...and was immediately promoted and reimbursed for the cost of obtaining the certification. The cost? A very affordable $150 for the first level (Microsoft Certified); then you can take more courses and build into Professional (MCITP), Architect (MCA), Professional Developer, etc.
How much can you expect to earn from certifications? From Microsoft:
"In high-growth industries, entry-level employees who hold a Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certification or Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification can earn up to $16,000 more, annually, than their peers."



3. CPA
CPA means Certified Public Accountant.
This is my favourite here, (Haha, you need to see the blush on my face right now).
An accountant with a Bachelor's degree can expect annual earnings of $63,550 per year (Let your calculator show you in Naira). But what if that accountant passes the licensure exam and becomes a Certified Public Accountant? Here is an interesting breakdown from the folks at Becker Professional Education:
"Over the course of a 40-year career, a CPA can earn as much as $1 million more than a non-certified accountant. Here's an example:
Two non-Certified Public Accountants with Bachelor's degrees begin working at the same time at the same large public accounting firm in Audit/Assurance Services at the same annual salary of $68,000.
One earns the CPA credential, creating a 10% salary differential of about $7,000 more than the other (CPA's can earn between 5% and 15% more than their non-credentialed counterparts).
Over time, more frequent and higher-level promotions can widen the salary gap to as much as $50,000.
Over a full career that can mean an additional $1 million or more in lifetime earnings."
The licensure exam is very rigorous, but what a difference in income obtaining that license makes. Shout out to all the "ACC Fellows".



4. Process Management
The question I get most often in HR about this position is, "What is it that those people DO?" Well, they look at a process, or flow, that isn't working, reorganize it, and implement it so that things work better. As a rule, they are really good at seeing the "big picture" and being diplomatic about change. Process managers have a governing body and must pass an exam. Earnings are estimated at $79,000 annually . Fortunately, this is another position where you can obtain online certification (here are some training resources ) while keeping your day job.



5. Medical Coder
With the implementation of ICD-10 medical coding, knowledgeable coders are in high demand. Already have your B.A.? Good, because those with Bachelor's degrees "...out-earned those with only a high school diploma by a dramatic $10,000 per year ($51,825 vs. $41,802)." The American Health Information Management Association
is the governing body for health information management. It also provides information about education and certification courses. I personally know coders who are able to work from home, which is a nice option if you have a family.



6. Exercise Physiologist
The median salary for a fitness instructor is $40,996 . But, obtain certification as an
exercise physiologist, and that jumps to
$44,470. Perhaps more importantly, though, is that if you are interested in this field, the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts 19% growth, higher than the average for all occupations.



7. Actuary
Have a degree in mathematics? Or, maybe you work in the field of finance, or statistics? The BLS cites median pay in 2012 for actuaries to have been $93,680 , with job growth outlook of 26% (much higher than average). Actuaries analyze the financial costs of risk and uncertainty. They often work for insurance companies or in finance. A
series of exams must be passed to obtain certification. It's not all about number-crunching, though — a good actuary needs the skills to be able to communicate, too.



Remember: Do your research before you leap. Some of these certifications are extremely rigorous and, although likely worth it in the long run, will put a strain on your time. Take a look at job listings to see what employers are looking for.
