The attention of the Nigerian Metallurgical Society (NMS) has been drawn to the publication of March 5, 2015 by the Punch Editorial on the above subject matter. The statement which was credited to the Honourable Minister of Mines and Steel Development during 2015 budget defence read in part “The latest moves by the Federal Government are likely to further depress, rather than revitalise, the critical steel sector of the economy. While yet another management arrangement is unfolding at the Ajaokuta Steel Company, the Delta Steel Company, Owvian-Aladja, is set to be sold to an automobile company. The imperative of privatisation is very urgent, but the bane of our steel industry, corruption and deliberate bungling of the process, must be reversed to achieve the objectives of industrialisation, export trade promotions and job creation”. “Based on bitter experiences, Nigerians have every reason to be apprehensive of the latest official gyrations. The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mohammed Sada, while defending the ministry’s 2015 budget proposal at the Senate, stated that DSC would be sold soon to an automobile company. The alarm bells provoked by this missive were still ringing when news emerged that sub- Saharan Africa’s largest steel plant, ASC, is likely to be handed over to another shadowy consortium to manage on behalf of the government. It is unusual for a vehicle assembly firm to buy a steel plant”! Experimentation without end ! The Nigerian Metallurgical Society (NMS) is of the view that the affairs of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL), Ajaokuta and the Delta Steel Company (DSC), Owvian–Aladja must be looked into curiously and critically in order to avoid the pit fall of the past when the two companies were hurriedly privatized. It should be noted that the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL) was conceptualized as far back as 1958, when the dream of establishing an indigenous Steel industry started. The increased awareness of the availability of abundant iron ore and coal deposits all over the country spurred the desire to establish a fully integrated Iron and Steel company in Nigeria. Based on the recommendation of the Soviet experts that the Blast Furnace System of Steel Making be adopted. Messrs Techno-Export (TPE), was charged with responsibilities ranging from planning, construction and operation of the Steel company. In the case of the Delta Steel Company Limited similar efforts were made by the Federal Government who stated the contract of construction of the Delta Steel Company Limited (DSC) with a German Consortium. The Steel Plant at Ovwian/Aladja, Delta Steel Company Ltd (DSC), a Midrex Direct Reduction Technology, was commissioned on the 29th January 1982 by the former President Alhaji Shehu Shagari, (by then Ajaokuta Steel Company was also almost ready for commissioning). DSC was the first operating integrated Steel Plant in West Africa, with a capacity for 1 million tonnes of Steel per annum. At one time DSC had taken super-concentrate from Itakpe (in Nigeria) to do away with imported ones. This feat was hailed by all and sundry. DSC after commissioning produced and supplied Steel billets to the Inland Rolling Mills at Jos, Oshogbo, and Katsina. Unfortunately, since 1994, DSC has been on the verge of collapse due to a multiplicity and inter-play of factors:- ministerial strangle-hold and insincere directives, under funding, misuse of scarce fund, over-costing of inputs, under-costing of products, etc. Subsequently, with the near- collapse of DSC also came the paralyses of the Inland Rolling Mills. It is our belief that the Steel Plants were established by the Federal Government of Nigeria then with the purpose to generate upstream and downstream industrial and economic activities critical to the diversification of the economy of the country and to provide the basis for processing our own mineral resources (iron ore, limestone, dolomite etc) so as to open up new export frontiers for additional foreign exchange earnings. It was expected then that the steel industries will provide the technological base for the industrialization of the Country and to spur local industrial progress through import substitution and conservation of foreign exchange and create additional employment opportunities. Ajaokuta Steel Plant was aptly tagged as the “bedrock of Nigeria’s industrialization” and Nigerians were full of expectations. For the sake of those who may be new to the story of Ajaokuta Steel Project. The Steel Plant is located on a 24,000 hectares greenfield land mass, built on 800 hectares of land, with vast land for future expansion. Three-Phase commissioning sequence was adopted for implementing the project: Phase I: 1.3million tonnes of steel per year; Phase II: 2.6million tonnes of steel per year; Phase III: 5.2million tonnes of steel per year. Phase I is estimated to be over 98% technically ready since 1994 and had remain in that state ever since! Unfortunately, moving from one experimental stage to another: 1. In line with the industrial policy of the civilian administration under Olusegun Obasanjo, efforts were made at involving the private sector in the completion of the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited but suffice to say that the effort failed woefully. SOLGAS, an energy company was chosen for the completion of the project which with benefit of hindsight was a wrong decision. Fears were expressed, even up to the level of the Nigerian Senate, about the likelihood of SOLGAS converting the integrated Steel plant mainly into an electricity generating plant rather than a steel plant. It was argued that the consequence of this would be that the viability of the inland Rolling Mills and Itakpe Iron Mining Company would be jeopardized. The African Iron and Steel Association (AISA) also voiced concern about the ability of SOLGAS to deliver on the contract. AISA doubted the company’s ability to execute a $ 3.6 billion project citing its inexperience in steel making, and the fact that it apparently had only a company turnover of only 6 million dollars. However, it was later discovered even though too late that SOLGAS did not have the required technical capacity to deliver on its promises, and the Nigerian government terminated the agreement with it. SOLGAS reportedly failed to start production even after one and half years of assuming control. Thus the experimental voyage with SOLGAS ended in disaster . 2. There was another “experimental” proposal from Kobe Steel of Japan, which proposed the introduction of the FASTMELT process of iron making technology into the Ajaokuta plant. The implication of this is that the existing Blast Furnace facilities will be replaced by the fast melt technology. Kobe Steel claimed that the new technology was capable of being operated by a non-coking coal that are available in Nigeria thus making production costs cheaper and profitability higher. Perhaps the suggestion to discard the use of the Blast furnace facilities did not appeal to the Nigerian government and rejected the proposal since most of the equipment required for the erection of the second coke oven battery was already in place. Moreover, the iron making plant (Blast Furnace) and the Steel Making Plant were ready for commissioning. 3. Again, in mid-August 2004, the Nigerian government and stakeholders were again deceived and a Concession Agreement was signed by Global Infrastructure Holdings Ltd (GHIL). Government was however alerted on the dubious activities of GHIL, advising the Government to abort the agreement with GHIL. Unfortunately the Government failed to heed the advice. GIHL could not fire the Blast Furnace, which was expected to start producing Ironl. The Company left the Steel Company disgracefully and even had the audacity to take the Federal Government of Nigeria to International Court of Arbitration! 4. Yet in 2008, an Interim Management Committee (IMC) was set up to oversee the company. The panel came into being after a Committee set up by the former President, the late Alhaji Umaru Yar'Adua. Four years into its operations, the IMC remained a lame duck, with nothing to show. 5. In 2012, President Goodluck Jonathan approved the appointment of Isa Joseph Onobere as the Sole Administrator for Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited and Alhaji A.Y. Ibrahim for National Iron Ore Mining Company Limited, (NIOMC). Onobere, a Metallurgical Engineer, was also a top management staff of the company. The appointments were announced by the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Arc. Musa Mohammed Sada. Arc. Sada explained that what informed Federal Government’s decision on the appointments of the new Sole Administrators for the two companies was to inject new ideas into the two facilities to make them operational in line with the transformation agenda on service delivery. The Minister noted that the two Sole administrators were appointed on the basis of “their experiences and professionalism in the minerals and metals sector that they should be able to bring about the expected turn around in the two facilities”. The Nigerian Metallurgical Society commended the efforts of the government then as putting a round peg in a round hole. Despite been starved of fund, the management had been able to survive and started to give the ASCL a new lease of life. There is no amount of investment a nation puts in its Iron and Steel industry that will be a waste. It should be noted that Japan and South Korea do not have the raw materials for steel production locally, yet they are among the largest producers of steel in the world today. The giant technological strides that they have experienced over the years is attributable to the development of their steel industries. Also, as far back as 1950’s, Indian government realised the importance of steel in entrepreneurial development of India. The government therefore imposed restrictions on the importation of automobiles, railway equipment, textile machinery, machine tools and agricultural equipment into her country. However this imposition was followed by corresponding action: the government embacked on the establishment of steel plants and foundries in India. The government also offered incentives of 60-70% of the cost of setting up cottage, small and medium scale projects to entrepreneurs. In some cases the government procured raw materials centrally for distribution to the steel plants and foundries. Nigerian Government should ensure that stakeholders aggreed that certain percentage of local content of material products are procured locally. Government in the last privatization exercise of DSC actually sold 80% of the shareholding. 20% was to be sold to the community and staff. There were allegations that this gesture was frustrated by the core investor hence BPE held the 20% in trust for the government. This 20% should have enabled BPE to participate in the Board which never happened. The advantage of government withholding 20-30% of the company shares will make it participate effectively in the company and monitor its activities. This will forestall a repeat of the last experience whereby a company that was privatized for about N3.75b within a short period had accumulated over N44 billion debt with dilapidated plant and machinery left behind. SUMMARY In the light of the above, the following suggestions are put forward: (1) The Federal Government, The National Assembly, the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, together with all the stake holders and well meaning Nigerians should reject in totality the “experimental” idea as being proposed by the Honourable Minister of Mines and Steel Development to sell DSC to automobile assembly company. The primary aim of the steel plant is being jettisoned. Such an assembly plant will end up to import vehicle parts to assemble and sell to us at the cost of imported vehicles. Such parts could be produced in Nigeria in the first instance to add value to our abundant raw materials. (2) While we are not against privitisation, we believe that it must be done transparently and in such a manner that it will be of benefit to Nigerians. Government should consider withholding about 20-30% of the shareholding of Delta Steel ( DSC) (and indeed the Ajaokuta and NIOMCO). These should be done carrying all the stakeholders and professionals along to forestall the mistakes of the past. Government can later divest this 20-30% to either the core investor or the public. (3) In order to ensure proper operation of Delta Steel Company, Government should consider allowing DSC to buy some shareholding in NIOMCO. This will trigger some activities in NIOMCO that will hasten the re-commencement of operation there. The successful turn-around of DSC will largely depend on uninterrupted supply of iron-ore and other raw materials. (4) Efforts should be made by government to ensure the completion and full operationalization of the Steel industries. If the Ajaokuta Steel Company is 98% technically ready, then nothing should stop the Goernment to put in efforts to see that the remaining 2% are technically completed. We are not carried away by the false propaganda that the operating the steel plant is not economically viable. Mainly such arguments come from those who are totally ignorant of the operation of steel plants. The Government only requires the political and economic will to bail the steel plants out of the woods for the betterment of our nation. (5) Rather than the Ministry of Mines and Steel embarking on another experimental escapade, we suggest that a more realistic efforts be made with all sincerity of purposes to bring the steel industries on stream. The present management structure at Ajaokuta Steel Company is competent enough to realize the steel dream of the nation. The Government needs to release fund for the operation in the company. Reviving the Steel industries by completion and operationalization will not only enable the country to build strong industrial base but will create employment and a lot of investment opportunities. The Nigerian Metallurgical Society will always support any genuine intentions of the Government to revitalize the steel sector. Prof. Engr. Alhaji Lai Muhammed, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), got married to Alhaja Kudirat Adeoti Muhammed some 35 years ago. Blessed with four children and several grandchildren, the couple shared their marital journey so far with Kazeem Akintunde. Where was the meeting point when the love affair began? We actually met during preparation towards FESTAC 77. I was doing my Youth Service with the organisers of FESTAC 77 and we needed some School certificate holders as protocol officers to work temporarily with us. She was among those selected and from there we started our relationship. Was it love at first sight? Alhaji Muhammed: For me yes. I liked her immediately I set my eyes on her. Madam: For me, I don’t think I had any intention of looking for a boyfriend then but along the line, we developed interest in each other. I developed interest along the line Was there any opposition then among your parents? Madam: From my own parents yes. I meant so much to my mother and she wanted me to marry an elderly person who will be able to take good care of me. But fortunately, he proved them wrong. He was able to take good care of me when they were alive and they were impressed. When did you eventually became husband and wife? We got married in 1979. We met in 1976, started working together in 1977 and we got married in 1979 after about three years of courtship. How has it been since then? Alhaji Muhammed. Let me first of all correct the impression of the opposition from her family. My father-in-law, from the day I met him, gave me the go ahead; why, because my first degree was in French and my father in law spoke German and French fluently, making it easy for me to buy him over, so to say. The opposition like she said was from her mother. Well, it was partly due to what she said, we were very young but my late mother-in-law also did not take kindly to her daughter getting married to an Ara-Oke (someone from the hinterland) but gradually, my wife did most of the convincing and I am happy that even though she did not stay with us for a long period after we got married (she died four years after),during the period that she was still alive, after she made up her mind for us to get married, my mother-in- law became my pillar of support. I still remember few years after we got married, we wanted to buy a new car-that should be around 1980/81; my wife and I were able to put together about N4, 000 but the vehicle cost about N6, 000. We went straight to my mother-in-law and she gave us the balance. I don’t even think we paid her back before she died. The car was a brand new 504 with Air- condition. She used to cook for us when my wife was working and she used to work late and so my mother-in-law would cook for us. There was a day my sister-in-law wanted to take part of the stew; she insisted that the stew was for Layi and that she could not take from it. My father-in-law on the other hand hit it off with me from day one. We have been married for 35 years and it has been beautiful. I have never regretted marrying her and I will give you reasons. In 1982 I came home one day and I told her that I would be enrolling for a degree programme in law; I told her that she should take good care of the home front as I would be combining my work with my studies and she discharged the task creditably. Another time when I was called to the bar and was still new where I was working, I must have been too outspoken and I felt the honourable thing was to resign. I got home and told her that I wanted to resign. I did not have any savings then but told her that I would provide the money for accommodation but that she should not ask me for house allowance or Children’s School fees until I had established my own chamber. I actually asked her to give me one year and it is to her credit that I never knew how we ate throughout that period. I thank God that within six months, I was able to redeem what she had spent in taking care of the home. Furthermore, when I went into politics, I started with Yomi Edu. We lost the primaries before moving to AD and even at that she gave her blessing. My wife has been very supportive; we have gone through a lot together. We have climbed to the top together and also crashed together. When I was the chief of staff in Lagos State, I was arguably one of the most powerful people in the cabinet and when I went to Kwara State to run for governorship, she left everything to be with me for a whole year during the campaign. We lost the election. It was quite tough, but she was there for me. What was it like when you took her home to your parents for the first time? My parents were warm to her; they are very broad-minded. When the relationship was still very young, what are those things you wanted to change about your husband then? Madam: He used to smoke and I told him I don’t like it; he said that I should give him some time and that he would eventually drop the habit. At times he won’t smoke in my presence but I could perceive the odour that he was still smoking but with time, he was able to drop the habit. Was there any period when you caught him with another lady? No, he has been very faithful to me Alhaji, was there anything you wanted to change about your wife then? There was nothing I wanted to change about her. Agreed, there is no way a woman won’t be a woman but when you have a wife who is supportive, hardworking and always there for you, what else can I ask for? One area we do disagree is the fact that my wife wants us to put money aside for the rainy day while I want us to spend it, believing that tomorrow will take care of itself. In retrospect, I think she has been right and I have been wrong. I don’t think I can marry any other person in my life. infact I would gladly marry my wife all over again. I have been in public life since when I was chief of staff, we hardly spent more than three hours together in a day but my children were just growing up then. When you have a wife who is the one that remembers the birthday of the kids and school visiting days, you will regard yourself as been lucky. She has also been able to pull my extended family together. They can easily reach her faster than me. Many even abandoned me by going directly to her because they believed they will get results faster than coming through me, and she will tell me my children cannot be doing well and those of my siblings are not; there would be no peace, there won’t be any love. It is something that gives me a lot of joy. Marriage from where I come from is not just between two people or two families, it is between clans. How many kids do you have and did you plan to have that number of children? Madam: we have four and they all came as planned. Most marriages don’t last these days because women don’t want to submit themselves to their husbands again. What would be your advice to those ladies? To the best of my knowledge one has to be very close to his or her God, to the extent that one must have a one on one relationship with God; then women should be able to persevere and have enough patience in their marital life. I believe a woman should get something doing. I don’t believe in full-time house wife. Do you have a pet name for your husband? Yes I use his middle name And what is his middle name? Atanda What about you Alhaji? I call her mummy. (Madam chips in) I call him daddy and he calls me mummy but when I need anything from him, I call him Atanda with a little bit of his Oriki. Alhaji, one thing about my wife that I like is that she is very prayerful. While I am snoring in bed, she is always praying. Also, since we got married, we have had our ups and downs but we have never contemplated been apart for one day or that we would fight and we would now spend a day away from each other. One thing she doesn’t like is that my children and I conspire a lot. We started doing that when she turned 50. All our children are outside the country and I decided that the best way to surprise her was to have all the kids at home for her birthday without her knowledge. I called all the kids to be at home for her birthday but that she should not be aware. Since she was in the habit of calling them every day, it was decided that the kids should hide their caller’s identity so that she won’t know where they are calling from and that they must be the first to call her every day in the morning. On the day of the party, I brought the children in and when it was time to cut the birthday cake I asked her to make a wish. What would you wish for as you turn 50 and she answered and said that “I would be happy if my children are with me” and I asked her to close her eyes and that by the time she opens them she would see her children. She did and I asked the kids to come in. She almost fainted. She was very happy but surprised saying ‘how could you do this to me?’ Alhaja, Do you still cook for your husband? He is not always at home, but whenever he is, I cook for him. He is on a special diet and I do prepare it. Alhaji, when was the last time you took your wife out? That must have been a long time ago. Ok, but we still went out yesterday now. Not to party just the two of you going out to relax and have fun? That would be about 30 years ago. Up till 1997 we usually travelled out for vacation but after 1997, the next time was 2007. I think it is something you should understand now. After 1997, I took up the chief of staff appointment, and then we went to Kwara for my gubernatorial campaign and now fully the job of spokesperson for the party. You know at times, I used to wake up thinking that where was I? Am I in Lagos, Abuja or where? I must say though, that she has been there for me. I would have loved to spend more quality time with her but even when I needed her, she would be outside the country to spend some time http://leadership.ng/features/418861/i-would-marry-my-wife-all-over-again-lai-muhammed |

Dear Madam First Lady: I Lack The Patience To Wait For Good Luck! I am almajiri because I am from the North and one of the products of the Polygamous family, if you “hate” me, you don’t have to wait to a moment that your husband needs my vote before you come with your pretense. I knew long ago that the killings in my region were allowed to be because, you don’t like my face. So, hold it, you don’t have to tell anyone to “stone” me because of my political party affiliation, you can use the soldiers to continue to kill me when they come to polling units, on the basis that “Nigeria’s economy is in your pocket”. You are intoxicated not from the amount of beer your husband drinks, but for the power that you are enjoying. Painfully, for all your utterances recently, you have killed your husband politically. Yours, Almajiri (#myvotemyright) http://saharareporters.com/2015/03/11/almajiri-writes-letter-first-lady-patience-jonathan |
TEXT OF PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY STATE OF OSUN CHAIRMAN OF ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS, PRINCE GBOYEGA FAMODUN, AT THE APC STATE SECRETARIAT ON FRIDAY 20 FEBRUARY, 2015 ON THE FAKE VIDEO BY PDP AND FEMI FANI- KAYODE All protocols duly observed. I want to welcome gentlemen of the press to this press conference called in response to one addressed by Femi Fani-Kayode yesterday in which he accused our party APC and our Presidential candidate General Muhammad Buhari of being afraid of defeat in the rescheduled March 28th election and thus planning how the election will be rigged or manipulated in his favour. To our surprise, a fabricated video recording acted and said to be part of a none existent rigging done during the 2014 Osun Governorship Election was shown in which some criminals were busy thumbprinting purported ballot papers ostensibly to confuse Nigerians and distract attention from PDP's usual attempt to manipulate the electoral process. It is unfortunate that the collaborative disposition of the Nigerian security community, particularly the Directorate of State Security and the Nigerian Police, in allowing the PDP to again foist sinister agenda on Nigerians as usual. This is because we have alerted the Directorate of State Security and the Nigerian Police of this evil agenda of PDP since November, 17 2014 when we got hold of the evil tape scripted by the PDP. Immediately, our party got a copy of the fake video recording did a petition to the Directorate of State Security (DSS) through our Lawyer Barr Daud Akinloye in which we demanded an investigation into the matter the outcome of which nobody briefed us till date. A copy of this letter is now being made available to gentlemen of the press. Also, print-out of culled shots of characters in the tendentious video is also being made available to the press so that they may be apprehended by security operatives who have refused to carry out their responsibilities to act on the video containing the images of these characters since November last year For the avoidance of doubt, our party, through its lawyer, alerted the Nigeria Police and the Directorate of State Security as far back as November, 2014 as follows: “(c ) that our client have in their possession which is hereby annexed the videotapes which was purportedly recorded showing that Governorship election that was conducted on 9th August, 2104 were rigged in favour and on behalf of our client and her and the Governor . (d) In the video tape it was falsely represented that our client and the Governor- elect agents in collaboration with some arranged persons that were armed are thumbprinting ballot papers allegedly used for the election for and on behalf of our client. (e) that this is an attempt to blackmail our client that the said election were rigged in favour of APC and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in their mischievous and clandestine bid to use same to proof (sic) by evidence and show before the Tribunal and the public at large that the election that was acknowledged as the freest and fairest in the history of Nigeria was rigged by the APC to earn the victory. The tape is hereby attached for your perusal and investigation.” Therefore, for the incorrigible and pathological liar, Femi Fani-Kayode, to be referring to our party "as a pot calling a kettle black" surprises us as we are NEVER of the same make with PDP anytime, any day. In our party APC, we are genuine and committed democrats that will never do anything to circumvent the electoral process or deny the electorate the right to freely choose who they want to lead them. The whole world knows that this is strange to the PDP as they only believe in CAPTURING the people's will as can be seen from the audio tape of the rigging efforts of PDP in Ekiti with the collaboration of Nigerian Military which has been admitted to include voices of major PDP rigging characters like Ayo Fayose, Musiliu and Obanikoro in the audio recording . Our party, the APC, has said it times without number and repeating it now that nobody should rig for us but that a level playing ground should be created for the people to cast their votes for parties of their choice without intimidation, harassment or corrupt influence. Even with the stolen billions of Naira brought into Osun before the election by the PDP and the over 70,0000 security operatives on ground, Osun people still showed they were Omoluabis by allowing their conscience to dictate their preference for the people friendly government of our party APC under the leadership of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. To the matter in contention, a closer assessment of the fake and fabricated video clip shamelessly displayed by Femi Fani-Kayode-Kayode will indicate that that was the purported ballot papers being thumbprinted are not the ballot paper used for our governorship election in Osun. For comparative analysis, we here present to you gentlemen of the press the fake ballot papers by the impostors as captured from the fake video clip and the original ballot used by INEC in the said election. We should all recall that during the sitting of the Election Petition Tribunal over the petition brought by PDP before it, both parties were given the right to inspect the materials used for the election including ballot papers and we scanned over 300,000 of the ballot papers from which we now show scanned copies of real images of ballot papers used for the election with clear distinction from the fake ballot papers in the tendentious video. All ballot papers used during the election carries INEC name on top, with a colour bar/code for each local government followed by the name of election and a serial number ALL these are absent from the PDP ballot paper shown on the television. Also for thumbprinting, INEC used BLACK Indellible ink and not BLUE as seen in their fake ballot. Looking at the arrangement of the parties on their ballot paper, it is clearly different from that used for our election; immediately following APC on the original INEC ballot is APGA while their own paper reflects another party and a total of four parties were missing from the fake ballot. Nigerians should note the PDP badly acted this drama of theirs and we have seen through their evil machination which they are playing up to cover up their misdeed in the Ekiti Governorship Election the audio tape of which we expect the President or National Assembly to have ordered an investigation into. After the 2011 General Election in Osun, it should be recollected that the PDP played a similar prank like this in Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency when they criminally influenced some INEC staff to void some of the ballot papers used and which are already in their custody after the declaration of the result of the election. Our party APC is a decent party peopled by committed democrats that will never involve in electoral offenses and the PDP should stop seeing us as criminals like them. More astounding is the fact that our party APC and PDP jointly conducted inspection into all materials used in the election and NO discrepancy was found. Also if the PDP are sure of their facts, why didn't they tender this fabricated tape at the tribunal? We have resolved that since the PDP has no shame other than to think they can deceive Nigerians, we will not allow this matter to lie low. We are therefore demanding for an independent Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the entire process leading to the Osun Election. We demand an exposition of all that happened two weeks to the election, the night before the election and on the day of the election up to the announcement of election result the following morning. When this panel of enquiry is convoked, it must be given the power to extract evidence from anybody through invitation and that nobody must refuse to appear before it. Failure by the President and National Assembly to act on this within two weeks, we will call on the on the governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, to take up the task of setting up of the panel of enquiry without delay. Finally, to put a stop to such reckless behavior in future, our party will be instituting a libel suit against Femi Fani-Kayode and his collaborators to teach them a lesson that it is not everybody that has crooked tendency like them. We also challenge the Directorate of State Security and the Nigeria Police to explain to Nigerians why they have failed, refused and or neglected to investigate and take necessary actions on the petition by our party on this fake concoction of PDP since November, 2014. Thank you. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1550838615173072&id=1423994374524164&refid=28&_ft_=qid.6118139201149264339%3Amf_story_key.-8258978293207927868&__tn__=%2As http://www.naijalately.com/news/osun-apc-threatens-legal-action-against-fanikayode-over-‘fake-video-clip’ http://www.news247.com.ng/news/osun-apc-threatens-legal-action-against-fanikayode-over-fake-video-clip |

Tamunoemi David-West, a professor and former minister of petroleum and energy, has suggested that President Goodluck Jonathan does not have a doctorate degree from the University of Port Harcourt as widely believed. Ahead of the February 14 presidential election, one of the popular comparisons of Jonathan with Muhammadu Buhari, the two leading candidates, is that the president possesses a doctorate degree while his opponent does not even have a secondary school leaving certificate. But speaking in Asari Toru, Rivers state, at the governorship campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC), David-West said that all efforts to trace the thesis for which Jonathan was awarded a Ph.D. in Zoology by the University of Port Harcourt, had proved abortive. David-West urged Rivers people to vote for Dakuku Peterside, saying he had not lied about his academic qualifications. “Dakuku Peterside is God-fearing and without the fear of God, we cannot move forward, both at the state and federal level,” he said. “Another reason is that I have discovered Peterside’s thesis: Corporate Political Strategy, but I have asked and I stand here on my honour, I have asked people to look for the thesis of my brother Jonathan and they have not found it. “I sent another person and said ‘If you have not found the thesis, go and look for the title’. He came back to say, Oga I no see am . “I am not saying that he lied but I want to see. I have been a professor since 1974. If you say you have Ph.D., the least I want from you is to give me the thesis, which university and where you got it. “My name is Tamuno, which means there is God. If you are lying, there is God o . I advise our brother to look for his shoes and leave. Why am I in love with APC? It is because its members are God-fearing. One of the problems with Nigeria is that there are so many politicians but few statesmen.” http://www.thecable.ng/jonathans-ph-d-thesis-not-found-tam-david-west-alleges |

Nigeria and Mexico approached China for credit facility to rebuild their railway systems (and other infrastructure). They both got the credits. Look at what each country did with the money. Mod,pls help move it to the right section if this section is not the right place. A major communal clash has erupted between the people of Ipetumodu and Asipa, two of the six principal towns in Ife North local government area of Osun State. PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the two communities are battling over land rights. Witnesses say many lives were lost while several houses were burnt on Friday after fighting broke out. The Osun state police public relations officer, Folasade Odoro, however, claimed no life was lost while stating that the police have stepped in to restore peace in the kingdom. “No death recorded, four building burnt, police are fully on ground containing the situation from escalating and protecting lives and property to restore normalcy to the area,” she told PREMIUM TIMES over the phone. Residents of Okoko, a border area of Ipetumodu have moved out for fear of further attacks from Asipa warriors. It was gathered that trouble had been building up between the two towns for years now. At a point, the people of Asipa barred the Ipetus from trading at their market. Consequently, the Ipetu people had to establish their own market at Akinola Junction on the Ife-Ibadan highway. Two politicians who spoke on condition of anonymity said the situation was grievous. Indigenes of other towns – Yakoyo, Moro, Edunabon and Akinlalu can longer pass through Asipa from Akinlalu Junction on the Ife – Ibadan expressway. They now make detours from Gbogan to Odeomu and Sekona. Other traditional rulers in the local government have waded into the festering matter before it becomes intractable. Some prominent traditional rulers in the area including were said to have sent emissaries to pacify the two towns. This paper could not also confirm if the Osun state government has stepped into the crisis as efforts by PREMIUM TIMES to speak with the Osun state commissioner for information, Sunday Akere, and the spokesperson to the Governor, Semiu Okanlawon were unsuccessful. Calls placed to their telephone lines were unreachable; messages sent were also not responded to. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-west/175134-communal-clash-rocks-ife-kingdom.html |
