If all these ministers are cut off from PMB, what remains then of the change agenda? |
Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun is to take questions from varied audience for seven hours from late night Friday May 5, 2017 into the early hours of Saturday May 6 2017 as he holds a repackaged public engagement forum, Ogbeni Till Day Break on Friday. The programme which commences by 11pm on Friday holds at the WOCDIF Event Centre, Ring Road Osogbo. The event will afford the people of the state and others outside the state opportunities to interact with the Governor ‘live’ on the activities of the administration. Those who are in attendance will ask the Governor face-to -face questions while others at home across the state can phone in or send their questions through the various social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook Whatsapp and others. It will be recalled that the programme was one of the prominent interactive sessions with which the governor gave stewardship of his administration before the end of his first term in office. Friday’s edition of the program will be the first since the commencement of the Governor’s second term. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/05/aregbesola-holds-ogbeni-till-daybreak-take-questions-night/ |

But counsel to the respondent, Mr Laide Yekini,
pleaded with the Magistrate to listen to him and
consider the notice of discontinuance of the matter
brought before the court by his colleague.
The Magistrate insisted that he would not entertain
the withdrawal of the case and the counsel to the
respondent said he wanted the court to record it
appropriately that a notice of withdrawal of the case
was brought to the court and the judge refused to
entertain it.
As a result of this, the Magistrate agreed to attend
to the application seeking the withdrawal of the suit
and the counsel to the plaintiff moved the
application.
In his ruling, Magistrate Aluko said for the sake of
consistency, he would not make any
pronouncement on the withdrawal of the suit and
that he would withdraw from the cease and refer
the case back to the Chief Magistrate for further
action. He adjourned the matter till February 15.
Needless War
After the court session, the Olowu of Kuta, Oba
Ahmed Adekunle Oyelude, who spoke for other
traditional rulers said: “On behalf of members of Iwo
Traditional Council, we have amicably resolved the
needless rift between the two brothers, Oluwo-Oke
and the Oluwo.
“It has been resolved in the Yoruba way and that is
why you can see the Oluwo Oke withdrawing the
case and you can see we have demonstrated the
traditional institutions respect for the judiciary and
we will continue to hold the judiciary in high esteem.
Oluwo of Iwo will continue to respect the judiciary.
“Oluwo of Iwo could not make it to the court today
because he is indisposed. We are all human beings.
God has enforced His order and by the Grace of
God, the Oluwo will be on his feet before the next
adjournment and he will come and do the needful.
This is needless war. We want all of you to know
that everything that emanated as a result of this
needless issue is regretted. Oluwo holds all of you
and Iwoland and Nigeria especially, in high esteem.
He will continue to respect the sanctity of the
judiciary. He is a foremost traditional ruler and an
Apostle of alternate conflict resolution, he has used
his money to rehabilitate the court and he will not
do anything to undermine the judiciary.
In a chat with reporters after the court’s sitting, the
plaintiff, Oba Akadiri Lamidi Adeoye, said he
withdrew the case because of the intervention of
the former President, Mr Olusegun Obasanjo and
the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola who
persuaded him to embrace amicable resolution.
“Our former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, called
me and our Governor also intervened and asked me
to withdraw the case from the court. That is why I
decided to do so. I respect this people so much,
they are men of integrity and that is why I obeyed
them.
“Some of those who intervened are older than me
and I cannot say because I am a king, I will not
respect them. They are people who should be
respected and that was why I followed their
advice,”he said.
The Oba further told reporters that he was not
coerced or forced to drop the case “as many may
want to insinuate”.
“Even the Traditional Council in Osun State
intervened. So, what else do I want than to accept.
If the case is taken to the supreme Court today, we
will win the case but because of those who have
appealed to us to drop the case, we just have to
obey,” the oluwo-oke explained.
The Oluwo-Oke had dragged his brother king, the
Oluwo of Iwoland to court over superiority issue
between the duo which eventually pitched their
subjects against themselves and almost turned
violent in Iwoland and its suburbs.
He accused Oba Akanbi of presently making money
through the internet fraud otherwise known as
“Yahoo Yahoo” and was using his palace as a
cover-up.
But Oba Akanbi reacted to these allegations in a 13
paragraph affidavits through the Aremo of Iwo land,
Mr Adelani Akanbi, describing the application filed
against the Oluwo of Iwo by Oba Adeoye as
“scandalous, vexations and designed to embarrass,
blackmail and ridicule the monarch in the view of
right thinking members of the society”.

If the police ask you to write a statement, which they normally do when they stop you on the road and take you to their station or when they invite you to their station, you should know how to write a good statement that will not implicate you. First, whether you write a statement as a witness or as a suspect, you must understand that your statement is very likely going to be used against you either in court or for the purpose of blackmail by some officers (not all). Therefore, take your statement writing as a serious matter. Remember that you have right to refuse to write a statement until your lawyer is present. But this normally leads to argument and hostile reactions from the police, and it may likely be a pretext for them not releasing you immediately. There are no hard and fast rules as to the content of a statement. It is supposed to be what you know in relation to an incident or the reason for you being brought to the station. Since the statement is not just a general view on anything you like, it is important that you know the reason for which you have been brought to the station. For those who have been suspected of committing an offense, make sure that before you start writing a statement, you ask the officer the offense for which you have been brought to the station. If he tells you that there is no offense, that they just want you to tell them all you know, you can politely say: No, Sir. The police force is meant to enforce the criminal law. Therefore, the police would not have any justification to bring you to the station except if they suspect that an offense has been committed somewhere by somebody - either you or someone else. And you need to know the offense and the person suspected before you could write your statement. Also, if you were arrested or invited as a result of a petition written against you, you must demand to read carefully that petition before you start giving your statement. When you start your statement, make sure you explain in your statement the reason for which you have been asked to make your statement. For instance, you can say something like: "I was stopped while driving my vehicle with registration number xxxxx on ________ street in _______ city. After showing my papers to officer xxxxxxx, I was taken to the police station and informed that my car was suspected of being stolen car" Then you make your statement. You will see that the police will not like this. But you should be able to state the summary of the circumstances that led to you having to make a statement in the station. I will say more about writing statements at police stations. For now, just get the idea that you should explain why you are making a statement and the offenses you were told you were suspected of. You should state that in your statement before you begin to write other things POST SCRIPT: The reason you have to state in your statement the reason for making a statement is obvious. Your statement when read by a third party can only make sense in the context of the matter that prompted the statement. So, if you didn't state the matter to which your statement relates, the police may change the matter down the line. Initially, you thought you were arrested because of stolen vehicle, but the police later charged it to kidnapping. If a judge is reading your statement in a kidnapping case, he will think you were evading the issues. He will think you were dodging the matter that you don't want to answer the question. And he will form a negative opinion of you based on your presumably inconclusive and evasive statement . So be careful and be wise. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1248984415125798&id=100000427530686&refid=7&_ft_=qid.6330188785359256270%3Amf_story_key.-8549629566179949428&__tn__=%2As&fbt_id=1248984415125798&lul&ref_component=mbasic_photo_permalink_actionbar&_rdr#s_0e77abea84bf40d6c1f6077c1c55cd77 |

Today is a very sad day for me. I feel so sad to the point numbness. All the states of Nigeria were represented earlier today at the stakeholders' briefing for the Free School Feeding program in Abuja. Some of the young men and women planning and executing this exciting and enriching project are from Ekiti, but Ekiti State, my state, their state is not a beneficiary. As such Ekiti State is not a partipating state and not represented. Our children in public schools in Ekiti will not benefit from this programme. The benefits in terms of child nutrition and good health will not come to them. School enrolment will not increase as experienced in Osun and Kaduna states, not to talk of retention! We shall not benefit from the spin-off effect of local agricultural production. Thousands of our women will not benefit from being employed as caterers. Furthermore, our family and state economy will not improve as envisaged in the participating states. This is simply because of the choice we made. What do we do now? How do we get out of this dark alley? The rest of the country is moving fast past us. This is unacceptable. Something has to give. We cannot sit down, fold our hands and mortgage the future of thousands of our young children and women who should benefit from this laudable program and many other initiatives that are aimed at improving the lives of our people. A few days ago thousands of hectares of land were cleared by the Federal Government in Osun State and parcelled out to young farmers to cultivate Cashew. In the next three years, this plantation will be manufacturing cashew juice, producing pulps and nuts as well as oil used in furniture manufacturing . This is an initiative of the Federal Goverment in partnership with the state government and that game changer Oba, the Ooni of Ife. For months now our Governor, Ayo Fayose has not attended the National Economic Council meetings. Great initiatives are coming out of this congregation of Governors and Federal Government officials to diversify the economy . In one year Kebbi State has benefitted N18 billion from the rice intervention fund. In a season, the farmers in Kebbi have harvested one million tons of rice paddy . Lagos and Kebbi are collaborating in rice production and rice milling. Where are we in all of these developments happening around us? Governors are drawing from many other intervention funds to organise their farmers to grow cassava, cocoa and palm trees. We are not featuring in any of these, yet we are mired in poverty. Our people are hungry and stealing pots of soup from their neighbour's kitchen and downing bowls of stolen amala with cold palm oil. What has gone wrong with us? Our situation is very sad and critical but this is a choice we made! https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10153653990946765&id=547381764&refid=8&_ft_=qid.6294973163167756934%3Amf_story_key.-932485925308148934&__tn__=%2As |
