Phones / Re: Etisalat Bought Dangote's Alheri: Gets 3G License by ayowande(m): 11:38pm On Dec 05, 2010
There is still no 4G anywhere.LTE and Wimax are 3.9G at most.the trials of these technologies worldwide has shown that the LTE(pushed by AT$T,Verison) and Wimax(pushed largely by sprint, nextel ,clearwire) is only slightly better than current standards of 3G(HSPAD+ e.t.c) besides there are issues with voice which is why we see a new standard VoLGA(Voice over LTE Generic Access).this will make voice calls revert back to 3G networks or 2.5G depending on several factors. The cost of the so called 4G is also a capital intensive technology as new frequencies are required to operate them.
The reason why we think 3G and the likes should be hailed here is that we have not seen anything better.Someone says MTN is great in his area.i wonder if he does more than facebook and the pause and play youtube we get over the networks. As demand grows you'll see why 3G has failed in most places and why operators are looking at newer standards. the best will come starting with Lagos next year.

Career / Re: The Investment Banker And The Fisherman by ayowande(m): 12:19pm On Nov 02, 2010
I hope we are not missing the point of the Story. The point of the story is not in the sensibleness or not of the fisherman. The point is not an investment savyness 101.The point is after all said and done what is really important in life.If you achieve greatness financially whats the point if you cannot enjoy quality time with your family and friends. Why toil all your life only to came back to what you've had all the while which is peace of mind.the greedy commercial system tends to make us see the world through it's prism-without wealth we are nothing and if anyone is not ambitious he is less of a mortal.how much does a man really need. How about the heartache that comes with such ambition and great wealth.better is a bowl of vegetable than a banquet of well fed bulls and wahala along with it. In my life i have found that striving after wealth or "financial freedom" as it's often called means we are slaves to another thing-our desires. This is what fuels the world and it's greedy system.
The fisherman's response is apt.If after getting big i still have to get back to this spot i am now what's the point? And really what's the point of broken relationships, bad blood high blood pressure, mounting anxiety, rising debt, sycophants, failed marriages, delinquent children, It's just as King Solomon puts it:"who is there knowing whether the son coming after me will not all together destroy all the hard work that i have worked under the sun.I thijk the fisherman has a farsighted and contented approach to life. I want to be the fisherman. i want to run what will take care of me my family and friends with a lot of pace of mind.As for the investment banker let's ask Erastus and his journey men.

Music/Radio / Re: Do You Think Any Nigeria Musician Can Win a Grammy? by ayowande(m): 5:22pm On Mar 19, 2010
~Sauron~:

You are a confused mammal.
What is the difference between Gongo Aso and Tradition as far as the language used is concerned.
If your listening ears can pick out the lyrics of Gongo Aso, i see no reason why it couldn't pick Tradition's lyrics.
The same Yoruba language was used.
Sauron,I think what most people are wont to say about the tradition album is this: there is a monotony to the album. That will not take away the fact that it's classic 9ice.i think it has to do with the producers he chose to go with on this album(cheepo and Dr Frabz).I love 2face and 9ice cos like someone said here both artiste are very deep.Unlike unstoppable from 2face with tracks that carry distinct characters, tradition has a monotony that can put you off.I had to listen to it again and again to get used to it;now i mix it with other songs on my MP3 player. That way i REALY feel it.That's not the same with Gongo Aso and of course not the same with Idibia's albums.
Having said that both artiste stand a very  good chance of winning the Grammy. I said a very good chance cos i feel soon the Grammy will have an award for best African act.The music produced here mimics Hiphop but believe me it's not. We(our artiste, producers, record labels) are spewing a new genre of modern music with contemporary beats made in Africa for Africa so it will be cruel to compere what we are doing here to what Akon has adopted or what JayZ is doing. What we are doing stands out and stands tall. You need to go around and see the impact of Nigerian music worldwide.I have heard people ask me: "that's 2face right?" "that's Asa?""that's Nigerian".This especially in Europe.I feel implication from 2face is on the way there.Just my opinion but it has the vibe.
Please do not let us talk about the terry G kind of music here or the Timaya kind of nonsense.Lets focus on music for intelligent minds and that will exclude those who traveled from mushin to Mo'hits. So for me it's:
1.2face(very possible)
2.Nneka(Very possible)
3.9ice (possible)
4.Asa(Second album please but a candidate)
5.Banky W(original may just be our own usher or whomever I'm not so into foreign acts anymore)
6.Darey (will have to be more original in an African kind of way). There are a lot of Luther Vandross wannabe out there. That's why he's not made such an impact as great as he is.
7.P-sq (will have to raise their game). The twins are good they need lines that are deeper.
I beg to add:
8. Dagrin.(Talented yes but let's wait for his next album).
9.MI is very cool, very lyrical, very deep but rap is their game he just may beat them to it.
Celebrities / Re: I Am Now A Married Man — Tuface Idibia by ayowande(m): 12:12pm On Mar 02, 2010
I have read almost all of the thread here and i am really ashamed i am on niaraland.Gone are the days when sense was made here.2face does not speak English? Please what is that language? The same one they thought us as slaves and again indoctrinated us with to colonize us? Why do we use pidgin in our adverts? Research has shown that it's the most effective medium of communication both for the rich and poor, for the educated and the undereducated;it cuts across  every strata of the society.A friend of mine just came in from The US and flew with an accomplished medical doctor and a reverend father in the United states he said they spoke pidgin all the way from Atlanta to Lagos. My friend said he tried to speak English but the man  will only respond in pidgin. My friend said he was ashamed that he was not as fluent in pidgin as the man was and he resides in Nigeria. Please pause for a moment and think:what will i be known for next year or in five years?2face has set the Nigerian music industry on the world map.Get the soundcity blast edition that focused on 2face and you'll see what other Nigerian artiste think of this great guy.Internationally he is just not a known name but he has a rapport with the industry big names.
Oh UNSTOPPABLE was a flop? And he got the MTV awards for a track in it?I was in Kenya before the MAMA and i was shocked by how much of the lyrics of songs on the album Kenyans know.I have(and still do) listened to that album again and again and i duff my hat each time. The lines are so deep and so refreshingly different from the terry G nonsense that we are fed with and we call music. listen to FREE , Oh Papa,Excuse me Sister(a track he used an apala beat to do hip-hop.The beat was from Haruna Ishola), Fly and Appreciate it(which he sang with a mixture of English and french),Can't do without you.
I am glad we have someone who is so real and so Nigerian yet an exportable commodity. The Unstoppable album is not a flop;it sold well here and is doing very well in the UK and parts of east Africa. It is only intended for intelligent minds not minds so underdeveloped that  "Pass me your love" and "yori yori" are world class track by their standards.Minds that the stupid songs filled with swagger,Butty,Moet,Hennessy, maga,Money,, really mundane things trip. Please listen to Djinee's(another great act) overkilling remix ft MI.Jesse Jags,Ice prince. You'll get the picture of the nigerian music industry.
For all of you who will like to talk in some foreign accent thinking that's cool-it's not! you are slaves all over again. Please spaek your Ibo,Yoruba, Huasa,Efik,Ogoja,Yagba,Kwale,Benin etc. then lets converse in pidgin,English, French as a common lingua franca never superior to our dialects nor our pidgin but just as another language.I wish i could write all of these in pidgin.
I am proud of Darey,2face,MI,Banky W and acts who take their time to do great music.Music that will always be green.Abeg carry dey go joo!
Politics / Bayelsa Govt To Bulid Massive Plaza With Returned N45B Loot! by ayowande(m): 4:05pm On Jul 10, 2009
angry

“This is a solemn occasion. There is indeed nothing to celebrate, rather, it is time for deep reflection. This is because the events that culminated in this ceremony today are rooted in serious and grave betrayal of public trust of a high ranking public officer, the governor of a state, Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, former Governor of Bayelsa State. The assets, which we are returning today are as a result of painstaking investigation and successful prosecution of the erstwhile governor for abuse of office, corruption and money laundering. He was charged, tried, convicted and sentenced by the Federal High Court, Lagos in 2007 and assets worth billions of naira forfeited to the Bayelsa State Government.
“The Commission gathered and sold the assets in Nigeria. The total realised N3,128,230,294.83, $441,000 million, 7,000.00 euros, and 2,000.00 pounds. Besides the money, we are handing over two prime forfeited properties, Chelsea Hotel located in the Central Area of Abuja, valued at over N2.8 billion in 2007, and No. 2, Marscibit Street, off Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja, valued N210,000,000. We have instructed Diya Fatimilehim & Co., former managers of the hotel to provide you with detailed inventory of assets of the hotel,” Waziri said.
Waziri said the money had been remitted to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in accordance with the law, for onward delivery to the government of Bayelsa State as ordered by the court. She also called on the state government to liaise with the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to obtain payment.
She said the foreign components of the assets were still in the process of being retrieved with the assistance of the British government and that once that process was completed, the assets would be returned as well to the state government.
“Let me reiterate that these assets were traced, frozen, managed, and finally forfeited at great cost and expense to the Federal Government. Even as the Federal Government is not asking for a refund of the cost, the government of Bayelsa has a responsibility and obligation to utilise the funds transparently and judiciously. It is international best practice to have a utilisation programme for the funds now returned. The Bayelsa State Government is therefore called upon to develop a plan with verifiable projects for use of the funds,” she said.
Bayelsa State Governor, Mr Timipre Sylva, while receiving the assets, promised to judiciously use the money and the assets.
“I must say categorically that EFCC is working and I want to thank you all for doing the right thing for us. I will use the money to build a massive plaza, which I will call Transparency Plaza in the midst of Yenagoa Business District. We are transparent and believe so much in dealing with the people in a transparent form. That is why we have a live phone-in programme every Wednesday where everyone is free to call and discuss how the state would go forward with me,” the governor said.
Music Business / Re: 2face Booed Off Stage by ayowande(m): 4:12pm On Jun 29, 2009
2-face got me hooked with his "u no holy pass" from the Grass2Grace album. It was deep and so philosophical and it was inspiring too. He has not failed all his fans. His next album Face2face had the same deep thought provoking lines with tracks like "E be like say" "One love" "true love" and "4 instance".While he might not be great on the fast dance-hall beat he  truly is a very intelligent act.In Unstoppable tracks like "free","oh papa","Go down there"  and "outside" are classic 2face.
And should we talk about his rhymes? Really makes an interesting case study. let's look at lines from the track "free".

When i walk into town
And i am strolling around
All the bad belle people dem go start to dey frown,
Or do we talk about his use of everyday words to make very strong points?
You dey learn to dey fly/
I have been to the moon.
Here's a piece of advice for you/
Dont try to ever wear my shoe/
Don't try cos e no go size you.
Over all i think Unstoppable has been a success. He supplied the dance hall track "Enter the Place" for the not so intelligent dance hall fans and yet stayed true to his style(the reggae afrohip-hop social consciousness thingy)
I respect him a lot and he has me as a fan.I learned he sold about 300k copies  of unstoppable in it's first week of  release (i bought two)
Bottom line is i am glad he is a naija good at what he does!
Literature / Re: Chimamanda's New Book: 'The Thing Around Your Neck' by ayowande(m): 10:42pm On Apr 22, 2009
When i first read Chimamanda's books i was stunned and converted.I could race along the pages as she describes the university setting pre-civil war.I constantly had to check to see if Chi is a girl with the way she describes the male sexuality with such poignancy that i know i can put words together on my feelings.I knew what it is like to be sad-really sad when just when the brutality and the massacre called a war was ending the character's sister (can't remember the name now) went missing. You'll never be able to tell if she was taken captive and is alive as some wife of a lecherous soldier or, she just leaves you to imagine. And think please of the way she makes you smile when you realize that what you been reading all along is what you have been guessing but have not been able to place a finger on it-that the lowly house boy is the narrator! and then you feel proud for him and that all of a sudden is some solace.
I have since gone to read Jude Dibia and please get his "unbridled" or his "Walking with Shadows". He is a master and the exact male equivalent of Chi. As for Chimamanda, ten thumbs up!

I spent an entire night reading a novel by Jude Dibia (WALKING WITH  SHADOWS) and i feel a million emotions all at once.the best way to describe what i feel while flipping the pages and even now hours after is,  reevaluate your beliefs.Jude bravely and candidly takes you through one of the taboos of our culture in a dignified "seek to understand" manner. The book revoles around the lives of Adrian who is(was) gay and married and his immediate community(family friends work mates.)
You will not find a more intense way to question your understanding of that male homosexual and then the "what ifs" that will follow as you read.
the book is more than an interesting read-it is soul searching, asking us to look deeper and find answers that we never knew were.
Jude is very brave
Religion / Re: Lovemaking After Traditional Wedding Only: Is This Fornication? by ayowande(m): 5:12pm On Jan 18, 2008
There are two types of marriages in Nigeria; 1.the customary marriage (which will all call traditional) 2.the statutory (which we call the Court wedding).
Both marriages are legal and valid both to the state and to God. It is not a requirement, not necessary to do both for your marriage to be recognized.
For the customary type of marriage is contracted when a) the bride price is paid and 2.the bride is handed over to the groom by the already consenting parents. If any of this is missing then no marriage has been contracted and any sexual intimacy occurring is fornication.
On the other hand the statutory type of marriage is contracted when the bride and the groom file a 21 day notice at the registry and thereafter, along with two witnesses before a marriage official, take Vows of fidelity and sign the marriage certificate. This simple ceremony requires no parental consent and you do not need to pay the bride price unless the groom wants to fulfill some custom. If no 21 day notice is filed or some short cuts are taken the law of the land has been tampered with and according to Rom 13 we will not be obeying the authorities. Needless to say that such hurriedly contracted marriages lack honor in the sight of God. This type of marriage can be contracted in a religious place that is license to do so. Some churches are recognized and you can use them.
The ceremony at the church or the reception that follow does not validate the marriage ,nor does anyone not going to church mean that their marriage is not valid. Once the requirements of the two types of marriages have been met then the marriage is valid and legal both in the sight of God and men.
Those contracting the customary marriage may wish to register their marriages for the sake of the woman and her children. If they choose to do this then the groom alone (or if the bride wishes to accompany him) will go to the local Govt and register an already existing marriage. This is different from the form C that will be giving when a NEW marriage is contracted under the statutory marriage system.
So you have not committed fornication at all if you have met all the requirements of your traditional marriage. The issue of marriage in the Bible is advisory, there is not one command in the bible tat a priest should be present at a wedding or otherwise. Jesus was at a wedding feast in Cana-the bible did not mention the actual ceremony (please note that the word ceremony refers to the requirements for both types of marriages. As an example the payment of bride price and the handing over of the bride to the groom by the family of the bride is a ceremony whether there is food, drinks dancing or what have you. All that is feasting or celebration). When Isaac got married the simple ceremony was that he took her into his mothers hut and that signified the marriage as the servant of his father had earlier paid the bride price. Yes we waste a lot of money in this country ‘though one will understand that that day is both sacred solemn and special.
Romance / Re: Where And How Did You Meet Your Partner? by ayowande(m): 6:58pm On Aug 22, 2007
very intersting thread!
Meet mine on-line 8 years ago and we go by the same name.we became instant friends and it was so like we were meant for each other but there was this snag-i was NOT going to live in the US and she was unwilling to come back home.So we dated and told each other about our dates and cried on each other's shoulder all through the years. We shared secrets that no one else knew about and we were so comfy with each other!
Over time our feelings simmered and we both knew we could do nothing about. It hurts each time she told me she was into another relationship and she would go like errghh! when i was in one.
Sometime this year we got talking as usual(need i add that we have never seen each other?!)she mentioned that she felt that she would do business in Nigeria some day but she has no motivation to come home yet.So i asked what was the one thing that could bring her home? she responded:"love".i paused and then said i had loved her all this while.i wondered if my love was not the kind of love she wanted. She went like Oh my God i didn't believe you would ever say that!
Well now she will be home in December and that tells you where the story is heading.Need i say i have never felt more fulfilled and so complete?can you imagine loving someone all that while and your heart stays with that one person such that you just don't feel comfortable in any other relationship?Pray for Us

Let’s call a spade a spade! angry
Working long hours and a relationship sure does not work at all. What really are our values in life and were has anyone seen happiness and affluence work together? I take it that we area victim of a materially over-saturated society were you are seen better by what you have.
History has shown that those who hug their work life a lesser kind of life than those who choose to be simple and embrace cultures and values that promote good health. Values like spending time with your family and giving time out to your neighbor (is not your girlfriend/wife your closest neighbor?) and worshiping God. Things linked with these activities bring the greatest happiness. Most have learned to cut down their work hours and some have resigned. The moment we start realizing that that good woman we got married to means more than all the wealth in the world the better for all of us.
Our society however has made divorce and separation a "no big deal" affair.
My dear Girl, it’s going to be hard convincing him to get to give yourselves some more time, but you just try OK? If he belongs to “my toy speaks better about me than my happy relationship or family" then really jump ‘cos you'll always bite your finger. (eyin lo ma dun oloku ada si)

this is really interesting smiley You mean to say you are not cheap? You sound that way my brother!! you need a girl who plays hard to get,a girl you'll beg for her number, tell me are you a cock chasing a hen?Tell me our sister folks are not what you call them.
My fiancee walked up to me two years ago and told me (her exact words):"a woman feels it first".I wondered what it was a woman feels first until i started getting calls from every other day;i was alarmed at first as i was not interested  in a relationship of any sort at that time.i told her that much and she left things at that.Months later i had the chance to meet up with her again and found out amazing things about her.Hard working, mild tempered; lot of respect and the kind of loving we've always dreamed of.i was named "lucky" by my friends.she calls at least 4 times each day aside from "midnight calls".You know what? SHE IS STILL A VIRGIN @ 23.
Point is there are  a lot of girls out there who know what they want.Once they see that they just behave mature and go for it.if it rejects them fine another will come by.if they are accepted they treat you like a king cos like my Fiancee will say"Better Husband scarce o".
So please do not insult this woman at all.If she is cheap you are a million times so angry
