honeric01: e-evolution abi?
Here is the truth: most revolutions that have taken place in recent times started on the internet. Yes, internet. Especially Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

The most important party in Italy rightnow started on the net by Grillo, a comedian. That party consists of young technocrats and they have won enough seats in the parliament. Arab spring leveraged massively on the internet. Saudi Arabian women fought for their rights on twitter. Now, a woman is among the "ministers" in Saudi. Much still needs to be done but its a starting point. Infact, the funny Oga at the Top man was re-posted because of the pressure that internet-users exerted on the video. Then shirts were printed and all. It would start from somewhere, the folks we able able to talk to at the Ojota rally have already formed little groups like PIYAN and all via the internet.

When the bubble bursts, Ahap! Then anything can happen. Don't give-up on nigerians just yet, this generation is much more enlightened and involved all because of internet.

If a governor in Nigeria could actually say something like this, if a serving PDP governor under a PDP led administration could utter these words, if Rotimi Amaechi who was once a student leader at the university could have the courage to speak to youths like this, if he could say this in a opposition state, Ekiti, and outside his south-south zone, if he could say this powerful statement: "We pray without working to solve our problems and we think God will do what we are supposed to do for us.” . Then revolution is near. Change is near. Tide is about to change. Destiny beckons upon us to, atleast for the sake of our offspring, change the nigerian story. Nigeria is all we have got! Our leaders have raped us and Amaechi knows it. Forget about his presidential ambitions, this is the reality on ground.

PROPAGANDA almost ALways FAILS, Eventuali...
My good friend, Mr Taharqa wink , propaganda is allowed in politics but reality prevails. All what I wrote were said by GEJ and his party.

I don't have time to do some internet sleuthing tonight as I wanna hit the sack. But read this quote from this article where Abati said:
“a mishmash of carefully arranged and concocted lies, presented to the public as evidence of a document emanating from the presidency.”
This was exactly what Abati did when Patience Jonathan went to Germany. He concocted a script to the public that she went on vacation while she came back to testify that God saved her life. Pot calling the kettle black.

Sincere 9gerian: Lai Muhammed, the LIAR, have done it again.

How can a party which thrives on naked LIES be trusted on anything?
You mean PDP, right? This same Reuben Abati that lied that Patience went for vacation in Germany while she was a patient in an hospital!

PDP thrives on lies. Errmm the greatest lie in the world is "Fresh air". What is fresh air? Are they going to distribute air freshner to every home? Or is PDP starting a fresh air company? Another lie was "I had no shoes". How does that affect the lives of the electorate? Someone who really had no shoe would provide shoes all for Niger delta kids by now. Mind you "shoe" is a figurative word here. Some people fell for it though. Campaign filled with lies.

PDP came up with Vision 2010. Vision 2010 was the year the party enriched themselves the most. Now, its Vision
2020...Now its "Nigeria will be in the top 20 economy by 2050" while they racket money into swiss accounts. LIARS

If nigerians have a good memory, they'd remember when GEJ said Boko Haram will end by June 2012. He also said electricity problems would end in 4months. How many jobs did he say he was gonna create each year? He even said he was gonna spend a single term. After three months in power he tried to change the constitution to make single term last 7years. Or didn't y'all remember that he said he would fight corruption? LIES.

"A committee to give a white paper report on Ribadu's subsidy recommendations" LIES! "We will provide energy saving bulbs to each home" LIES.

The good news is that our senses are keener. We know the party is filled with lies and we want change.

God bless Nigeria!

Idokojimmy: The controversial former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Nasir Elrufai, has revealed that Buhari was a better leader than president Obasanjo whom he served despite having said in October 2010 that Buhari was not a good leader. He made this 360 degree turn on

It may be recalled that on October 4th 2010 Elrufai hd said of the same Buhari  as follows "Mallam El-Rufai wishes to remind General Buhari that he has remained perpetually unelectable because his record as military head of state, and afterwards, is a warning that many Nigerians have wisely heeded. His insensitivity to Nigeria’s diversity and his parochial focus are already well-known. In 1984, Buhari allowed 53 suitcases belonging to his ADC’s father to enter Nigeria unchecked at a time the country was exchanging old currency for new.  Against all canons of legal decency, he used retroactive laws to execute three young men for drug-peddling after they were convicted by a military tribunal and not regular courts of law. Buhari was so high handed that he gave himself and his officials immunity even from truthful reporting. That obnoxious Decree 4, against which truth was no defence, was used to jail journalists and attempt to cow the media as a whole. That tyrannical legislation shows the essence of his intolerance. These are facts of recent history".

http://www.naijapundit.com/news/buhari-was-a-better-than-obasanjo-elrufai
Two questions we must always ask ourselves when reading any article are:
1) What is the writer's intention?
2) what is the meaning of that he's writteb?

Until we grasp both intention and meaning, we'd be emotional and react without a clear sense of reason.

The intention of Beaf AKA Idokojimmy and naijapundit is to taint Elrufai and Buhari image.

We all know what it means to taint someone's image.

Now, if Elrufai once said Buhari is unelectable, he never said OBJ was better than Buhari. There is no point adding "has made a 360 degree u-turn". I once said the same about Henry Okah but I've got to love him during his trial after I dug into his case-file.

Everyone knows Buhari/Idiagbon's regime was one of the best times we've had in this country. So cut the crap, Beaf.

PoliticsRe: The African Economic Revolution by ayox2003: 12:09am On Apr 02, 2013
PapaBrowne: This is where we have missed the point. I referred to Knowledge economy and not Service economy. They are two entirely different phenomena.

These are definitions:

KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY
An economy in which growth is dependent on the quantity, quality, and accessibility of the information available, rather than the means of production.

The knowledge economy is the use of knowledge technologies (such as knowledge engineering and knowledge management) to produce economic benefits as well as job creation. The phrase was popularized by Peter Drucker as the title of Chapter 12 in his book The Age of Discontinuity, And, with a footnote in the text, Drucker attributes the phrase to economist Fritz Machlup and its origins to the idea of "scientific management" developed by Frederick Winslow Taylor.[1]
Other than the agricultural-intensive economies and labor-intensive economies, the global economy is in transition to a "knowledge economy," [2][3][4][5][6][7][8] as an extension of an "information society" in the Information Age. The transition requires that the rules and practices that determined success in the industrial economy need rewriting in an interconnected, globalized economy where knowledge resources such as know-how and expertise are as critical as other economic resources.

SERVICE ECONOMY
Service economy can refer to one or both of two recent economic developments:
The increased importance of the service sector in industrialized economies. The current list of Fortune 500 companies contains more service companies and fewer manufacturers than in previous decades.
The relative importance of service in a product offering. The service economy in developing countries is mostly concentrated in financial services, hospitality, retail, health, human services, information technology and education. Products today have a higher service component than in previous decades. In the management literature this is referred to as the servitization of products. Virtually every product today has a service component to it.

INDUSTRIALIZATION
Industrialisation (or industrialization) is the period of social and economic change that transforms a human group from an agrarian society into an industrial one. It is a part of a wider modernisation process, where social change and economic development are closely related with technological innovation, particularly with the development of large-scale energy and metallurgy production. It is the extensive organisation of an economy for the purpose of manufacturing.[2]
Peter Drucker was advocating for a knowledge based economy in countries that have already done the basics. These countries already have industries, infrastructure and great service delivery. Drucker also canvassed for knowledge workers. Yes, we can adopt the knowledge based economy but the foundation must be laid. They include agriculture, education, infrastructure, manufacturing and production. Without these basics, nothing can be done. Plus, knowledge comes from expertise and expertise comes from experience. Without a real-life experience, what knowledge have we to offer? That's why we need these industries to create experts who would sell their knowledge.

I strongly agree with u but this is Africa where we need to create jobs from the vast landmass that we're blessed with. Poco a poco we will get there.

Ugosample: As an economist, the solution to Nigeria's economic woes is to correct the Fiscal/Monetary policy discrepancy in the country i.e. the government running on a deficit budget (expansionary fiscal policy) and at the same time set intrest rate at 12% to curb inflation, which is caused mostly by the wastefulness of the govt via spending recklessly instead of increase in aggregate consumption accross board (as in the case of Brazil) when the inflation rate rises, instead of tackling the root of the problem, they take the lazy route via increasing the rate of lending which will stifle the economy as businesses will find it difficult to raise capital. And the most disheartening part is that the inflation rate still remains high because they refused to check the real causes of inflation in the country. MY SUBMISSION: for the economy to move forward, all levels of government should curb wastefulness and make capital more accessible by reducing the intrest rate which in my opinion is ridiculous! If you disagree, please state your own points/proffer your own solutions... Let's learn from each other.
From an economist point of view, you are correct. Infact, i've always asked why the MPC always left interest rates at 12%. Inflation has dropped, yet the CBN still holds the 12% interest rate, instead of easing a bit to 10%. Its a common saying among nigerians that foreigners come into the country because our economy is strong while nigerians are jetting out. My response is this: a foreigner will never come into nigeria to start a business without money. Infact, China has a zero percent loan program for chinese who want to invest in Africa. Here, there's a high probability that a lebanese would get a loan before a nigerian. Funny enough, he could jet-out of the country without paying back.

CBN lends bank at 12%, banks lend us at 23-26% For a budding entrepreneur, 23% is too much. How do they want small businesses -that are the largest employers of labour- to grow?

The chance of chinese making it in Nigeria is higher than a nigerian because policies are more political than economical.

shymexx: It’s not about impressing me, or having love for pan-Africanists… My comment was based on what I feel the blueprint for Nigeria’s economy should be – and I cited working examples of countries who are naturally, culturally, and geographically similar to us… That’s the template we ought to follow to move Nigeria to where it belongs in scheme of things in the world – not bogus and declining templates – which are not suitable for us…

The West still has a stronger financial base than any other region in the world... Hence, why their economy is focused on that for now because that's primarily the only way it can out-compete everyone else... And I reiterate, their template isn't going to work for us...

Sorry, I had to delete the rest of your post because everything was based on one example – which is: consumer electronics…. I alluded to manufacturing/industrial base, and I never mentioned anything about consumer electronics… My assertion was about taking the raw-materials/mineral-resources we produce and turning them into finished goods – thus creating jobs, reducing overhead costs, and expanding the economy… Rather than selling the raw materials and importing the finished goods at a higher cost…

However, the earlier you realize that globalization is a fraud, the better for Africa… Africa doesn’t have the needed economic and industrial power to compete in the so-called; globalized world… And we need to focus on our unique strengths for now, rather than lopsided globalization pipe dream…
Spot on!!!

Africa must learn from Haiti. In Haiti, the West established a free trade zone and told the then president that their creole goats and livestock needed to meet global standards. So they injected a whole lot of their goats and pigs with vaccines. Since then, the creole pigs rate of reproduction fell. What's the lesson? Don't let anyone control how u manage your resources because u want to be "globalized". Africa must learn from this.

Africa is sitting on solid minerals. Africa has oil, aluminium, diamond, tin, lead, bitumen, copper, gold etce. We have cocoa, oil palm, cotton etc. Cash crops and natural resources are our strength. We can channel the revenue accrued from solid minerals to provide electricity, education and good health care, while agriculture remains a strong pillar of our economy. Its always a popular saying that one must focus on ones strength. This commodity boom may not last long but it could be a good moment to lay a solid foundation for the next generation.

Africa has always been the focal point of natural resources. Since the Berlin conference in 1884, where the Europeans declared "Scramble for Africa", our resources have been stolen and man power exploited for the development of Europe.

Now that these investors are flocking into the continent, our leaders have not learnt from the past - the exploitation and lollygagging.

I saw a report that 400million mobile phones have been sold in Africa. Much more than the whole of Europe and America individually. Making Africa the largest consumer of mobile phones after Asia. Also read that last year alone, Nigerians spent N150bn on mobile phones. In all these ready market across Africa, we cannot boast of a single plant that produce phones. I mean a Blackberry factory in Nairobi or Ghana, atleast.

There is nothing in Africa we can call our own. If Google shuts down today, we don't have our search engine, if Pfizer goes bankrupt, our kids would die. The commodity boom in Africa would amount to nothing, if Africans in Africa are not at the fore-front of these developments. GDP at 8% or not, Africans must enjoy a large chunk of its development. Industries must be situated here, skills must be transferred, technology - our silicon valley- must also exist, agriculture must also be encouraged among youths. Without these, the chinese would be the new colonial masters like they've already been doing in Angola.

Yet, all these cannot happen if we don't invest in education, electricity and create a thriving environment for new businesses to grow. This is where our leaders have failed. We need to hold on to this moment, squeeze it and get all we can out of it because we must create a solid foundation for the next generation.
