President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday in Nairobi, Kenya reaffirmed Africa’s unity and strength, while strongly rejecting the notion of a new scramble for the continent.

President Tinubu further called for good governance to ensure a prosperous future for Africa free from the exploitations of the past.

“As Africans, we forge ahead no matter the barriers thrust before us,” President Tinubu added.

The ECOWAS Chairman said past history and current global difficulties argue against Africa’s future success, as the world remains unkind and uncertain.

”Lessons of the past few years teach us that the world economy can be disrupted in ways that halt progress and invite downturn. Our nations can suddenly find themselves in dire situations if we choose to be passive observers of our fate.

”Such passivity does not commend itself to me. I will not listen to it. Neither should any African. The challenges we face mean that governance will be difficult.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) capital importation report for 2023 Q1 revealed that foreign investments in the manufacturing sector decreased by 35%, from $392.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2022 to $256 million in the first.

The overall amount of capital imported into Nigeria, according to the study, was $1.1 billion in the first quarter of 2023, down from the US$1.5 billion reported in the same period the previous year, a fall of 28%.

Despite the decline, the production sector saw the second-largest inflow of capital, accounting for 22% of all investments, while the banking sector saw the biggest inflow, amounting to $304.5 million, or 26.89% of all capital imported in Q1 2023.

Benjamin Mendy has been found not guilty of rape and attempted rape by a jury at Chester Crown Court, NRTC can confirm.

The former Manchester City defender was accused of raping a 24-year-old woman in a bedroom at his home in Cheshire in October 2020. Mendy was also charged with the attempted rape of a 29-year-old woman at his home two years earlier.

He denied both charges and has now been found not guilty by the jury of six men and six women at Chester Crown Court. Defending himself, Benjamin Mendy stated that the experiences with the women had been consensual.

Mendy had earlier been cleared of some alleged sexual offences
Earlier in 2023, Mendy had been cleared of sexual offences against a number of women. However, the jury were unable to reach verdicts on the two charges.

Meanwhile, during his retrial, prosecutors confirmed Mendy would host parties and social gatherings at his home ‘The Spinney’ while under contract at Manchester City.

During the hearing, it was learnt Mendy had met a British student in a nightclub in Barcelona back in 2017. This student got close with one of Mendy’s friends. She then arranged a meeting with him at the footballer’s home the following year.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has renewed the tenure of Oba of Lagos, Oba Riliwanu Aremu Akiolu as the Chairman, Lagos State Council of Obas.

Sanwo-Olu also renewed the tenures of the State Council of Obas as well as the Chiefs for another term.

One Ahmed Ayinde has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for stealing a Suzuki mini bus popularly called ‘Korope’ with registration number EKY 902 YA.

Ayinde was arrested while attempting to sell the bus without documents along Isolo Road in Mushin.

The police command via its Twitter page on Tuesday said the suspect stole the vehicle from the Iyana Ipaja axis.

Kogi State University (KSU) now known as the Prince Abubakar Audu University, (PAAU), Anyigba, The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, and the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, (FUPRE) Delta State, have begun Post-UTME screening exercise.

To access public universities – both federal and state that accept a minimum of 140 and above, NRTC has created a thread to provide instant updates on the 2023 Post-UTME sales of forms, cut-off marks, eligibility criteria, screening dates, and registration details these schools as soon as they are announced.

According to the information obtained from KSU, application begins July 21st and ends on August 15th. Eligible candidates need to have scored at least 140 marks regardless of the programme applied for and chosen the university as First Choice.

UTME Candidates are to visit the admissions website to apply online and make payments with their ATM debit cards. Also, Direct Entry candidates who applied to JAMB for admission and chose Kogi State University (KSU), Anyigba as institution of First Choice are also required to complete the online application form for their screening exercise. The minimum entry grade is an Upper Credit.

The Post-UTME screening exercise will take place from Monday 21st August to Saturday 09 September 2023.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has intercepted a suspicious 800, 00 litre Vessel with a Cargo of Crude oil through an engaged Private Security Contractor, Messrs. Tantita Security Services.

NNPC in a statement by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Garba Deen Muhammad said the Vessel, MT TURA II (IMO number: 6620462), owned by a Nigerian Registered Company, HOLAB MARITIME SERVICES LIMITED with Registration Number RC813311, was heading to Cameroun with the Cargo on board when it was apprehended at an offshore location (Latitude: 5.8197194477543235°, Longitude: 4.789002723991871°), with the Captain and Crew members on board.

NNPC said a preliminary investigation revealed that the Crude oil Cargo onboard was illegally sourced from a well jacket offshore Ondo State, Nigeria.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has been taken into intensive care after bleeding around his brain.

The Dutch is now in a stable condition in hospital, as announced by former club Ajax.

The 52-year-old won four Premier League titles during his six years at Old Trafford. He also won the Champions League in 2008, a trophy he also won with Ajax as a player.

Some students have become regular JAMB’s clients every year. They sit for the exam every year, have a relatively high mark, say 260+, yet fail to get admission. They either fail the Post UTME of the school, make one funny mistake or miss the whole year outright. The following year, they brace themselves to write the exam again.

From my experience talking to many students and listening to their plights, I have found out three mistakes they always make while seeking admission to any university.

1. Insistence on a particular course

Now, don’t get me wrong. There is nothing wrong in being ambitious or chasing a particular course, say medicine and surgery, nursing, law, accounting, and you name it. But, most times, your educational background also matters. If you’re not sufficiently armed with the requisite knowledge, it may take you increasing number of hours, months, or even years, to compete favourably with people who have better educational background or more privileged than you are. You just cannot meet up with their standards. And they don’t need to read as much as you do.

If you find yourself in this situation, you need to go for a less competitive course that’s closely related to your desired course. You need not worry now, the dots will connect when you look backward. There is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary nature of many courses. This means that some courses are connected, or related, in a way, but you may not know now.

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has appointed Rena Wakama as head coach of the Nigeria Women’s basketball team, D’Tigress.

NBBF announced the appointment of the former Western Carolina Catamounts’ Guard on Friday. She has been engaged on a two-year contract.

D’Tigress have been without a head coach since Otis Hughley resigned from his role in 2022.

In the Thursday episode of the ongoing BBNaija Reunion, Level Up winner, Phyna claimed her fellow reality star, Chichi abandoned her child to die in Benin, Edo state.

Speaking during the episode, Phyna stated that Chichi whose real name is Chinenyenwa Desire Okoebor is far older than she claims. She alleged that Chichi is far older than other BBNaija Level Up participants.

The payment of the 7.5% Value Added Tax on Automotive Gas Oil, also known as diesel, was officially announced by the Federal Government on Monday.

In Abuja, representatives of the Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Nigerian Customs Service reaffirmed that AGO was not exempt from paying VAT in accordance with the VAT Modification Order 2021.

The development was, however, condemned by Nigerians, who pointed out that citizens were still trying to adjust to the hike in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, not knowing that plans had been perfected to further raise payments for diesel.
