The recent culinary show of Chef Dami has rebooted the discussion on unhealthy competition. It is needless to say that competition is deeply ingrained in human nature. From sports arenas to classrooms and workplaces, it drives us to push our limits, achieve greatness, and constantly strive for improvement. The most pertinent question then is, what, really, is an unhealthy competition? Competition becomes unhealthy when it exemplifies an obsession with winning at all costs, the constant pressure to overperform others, and a disregard for ethical boundaries. First of all, the constant pressure to outperform others is an unhealthy competition. This can lead to severe stress, anxiety, and burnout. Instead of celebrating personal growth and learning from setbacks, the focus remains solely on winning, often at the expense of mental and emotional well-being. The individuals then become caught in a grip to measure their worth solely based on how they stack up against others. Every one should compete, rightfully. But when every achievement or success becomes a mere stepping stone to outdo someone else, it may be unhealthy. https://newsroundtheclock.com/chefs-hilda-baci-and-dammys-cook-a-thon-what-really-is-an-unhealthy-competition/

Beauty is vain, vague and vanishes after it has scintillated a room with it’s delectable aura. It’s heinous to rely on beauty, though it is soothing, it isn’t actually sustainable. In recent times, several young people have preferred to rely heavily on their physicality; the little things that makes them attractive- such as their faces, physique and sex appeal. However, this is ephemeral and serves no real purpose in the ideal world. Beauty is vain and it’s worth diminishes without any notable skillset, personality, career path and essence attached to it. The world is amassed with beautiful people, there will always be someone who is physically more attractive than you; someone who has a prettier face, a more muscular physique, taller, a properly aligned dentition. You are not special, you are only as beautiful as the minute is, stack yourself with knowledge, understanding and perception of how the world works. Who Inspired This Article? In 2022, Nigerian men on Tik Tok could not stop talking about the sensational dancer, Kelly. Everyone salivated and stood on awe of her beauty as she wiggled her waist across social media. https://newsroundtheclock.com/beauty-is-vain-and-its-worth-is-ephemeral/

Afrobeat is a music genre that was pioneered by the legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. The icon spoke about the African struggle, colonialism and slave masters, the nefarious military leadership era in Nigeria and several personal issues. Afrobeat was simply a form of storytelling through music- it had a commencement, a middle and eventually, has no end. The narrative of Afrobeat has not stopped, as a matter of fact, the music genre is currently topping charts across the globe. Sensational musicians such as Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido have taken the genre across the globe, making it one of the most appealing sounds in modern times. Afrobeat has become lucrative, attractive and everyone wants to affiliate with the sonorous genre that commenced from a place of pain, turmoil and hardship. While men from Nigeria have pushed the genre far and wide, only few women have been able to make a name for themselves as mainstream superstars. Despite Tems’ recent combustion in the international music scene and Grammy success, she isn’t in the same hierarchy as Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade. However, Tems must be acknowledged for her impressive skillset and songwriting dexterity that she possesses. The English language can sometimes be tricky, especially when it comes to choosing the correct verb forms. Two such verb forms that often cause confusion are “were” and “was.” These past tense forms of the verb “to be” may seem similar, but they have distinct applications. Were /wɜːʳ/ as a plural verb and second person singular of the past tense of verb be. For example: They/you were at the party last night yesternight. You didn’t tell me you were coming to see me before. They must have told you how they were given some party Jollof rice at the event. We use ‘were’ after the verb ‘wish’. It doesn’t matter the number of the subject that precedes it [=she, the men] I wish she were my wife. She wishes the men were here. If you’re discussing things that are unreal or conditional, then use were [=I were and he/she/it were] after subordinators like as though, as if, and if. https://newsroundtheclock.com/nrtc-english-where-to-use-were-and-was/

Ego is the part of our mind that shapes our sense of self and how we view ourselves in relation to others. It’s like the “I” or “me” that we identify with. For example, when someone praises us and we feel a sense of pride, that is our ego being boosted. Conversely, when someone criticizes us and we feel defensive or hurt, that’s our ego feeling threatened. While the ego is a natural part of being human, it can also lead to negative behaviors or attitudes if it becomes too dominant. Balancing the ego involves finding a healthy sense of self-worth and identity while also being aware of and considerate of others. Caring less about your ego does not mean abandoning healthy self-esteem or self-respect. When you prioritize genuine connections over ego-driven desires, your relationships can flourish. By letting go of the need to always be right or in control, you become more open to understanding others’ perspectives, resolving conflicts amicably, and nurturing healthier and more fulfilling relationships. In a romantic relationship, for instance, disagreements and conflicts are inevitable. If your ego is dominant, you may always want to be right and have control over the situation. This can lead to arguments, defensiveness, and a breakdown in communication. https://newsroundtheclock.com/having-less-ego-can-improve-your-relationship-and-increase-emotional-well-being/

While the removal of fuel subsidy may lead to higher fuel prices, it also presents an opportunity to explore alternative ways of surviving and thriving in a post-fuel subsidy era. In this article, I have explored three alternative strategies that individuals and communities can adopt to adapt to this change and build a more sustainable future. Firstly, as fuel prices rise, it is time to rethink our transportation habits. Explore alternative modes of transportation, such as cycling, walking, or using public transport. You may also consider carpooling or ridesharing with neighbors and colleagues can also significantly reduce your fuel expenses. Additionally, alternative modes of transportation, such as cycling or walking for shorter distances, not only cut costs but also promote a healthier lifestyle. Secondly, with rising fuel prices, the cost of transporting goods and produce will also increase. One way to combat this is by investing in local agriculture. Embracing backyard gardening, community farms, and local markets not only reduces dependence on expensive imported food items but also stimulates the local economy. By buying locally grown produce, individuals can save money and contribute to the overall well-being of their communities. https://newsroundtheclock.com/3-alternative-ways-to-survive-after-removal-of-fuel-subsidy/

In a recent interview with Dada Boy Ehiz on Apple Music Africa Now Radio shared some of the turmoil he experienced while working on the album. According to Joeboy, the album is amassed with the best of both worlds as listeners will enjoy incredible love songs while also getting songs that speak on the issues in relationships. “It’s like the best of both worlds – there’s the love ideology there, [and] there’s the toxic love – because at the end of the day, love is not just a bed of roses, there are battles and challenges that people in relationships have to go through. There’s this social media idea that love is perfect and white as snow, but that’s not it. But, for many, it can get out of control and become a significant mental health problem. We all feel anxious from time to time. Anxiety is a natural response to the uncertain world around us. For example, in the current cost-of-living crisis, more than a third of adults feel anxious about their financial situation. But it’s important that we recognise and respond when we feel anxious, so that our anxiety doesn’t become overwhelming. This week, NRTC would like for our readers and social media community to reflect on the past year. Particularly on how it may have impacted on your mental health. This week provides an opportunity to reflect and talk openly about mental health in general; and the struggles you may be facing. It is important to overcome this stigma, in order to access appropriate treatment and services. https://newsroundtheclock.com/the-importance-of-mental-health-awareness-week/
