RomanceWhy Adults Are Not Getting Married Early And The Solutions by Azeemokoya(op): 10:51am On Aug 27, 2023
In Nigeria, as in many parts of the world, the traditional norm of early marriage is giving way to a new trend – adults increasingly delaying or even opting out of the institution altogether.

These days, a number of men are running away from marriage commitment. Women, too, are being mindful of what they are committing themselves into.

Here are some reasons adults are running away from marriage and the solutions to these reasons.
Career pursuits
Gone are the days when marriage was a gateway to financial stability. Today, young adults in Nigeria are focusing on building their careers and achieving financial independence before considering marriage.

The cost of living, education, and housing has surged over the years, making it challenging for many to afford the expenses associated with weddings and setting up a household.

As young professionals strive to establish themselves in their chosen fields, they often view marriage as an additional financial burden rather than a step toward stability.

Education8 Funny, Yet Pleasant Experiences That Make NYSC Worth It by Azeemokoya(op): 9:01pm On Aug 17, 2023
Are you probably wondering whether there is something significant during your Orientation Camp and throughout your eventual NYSC year? Or you are probably wondering whether the experience will be worth it at all or not.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a rite of passage that unites fresh graduates across Nigeria in a same uniforms, chants, and amazing adventures.

I have curated 8 funny, yet pleasant experiences from serving corps members and even those that just back from camping.
These experiences, I’m sure, will make your NYSC year memorable, but that’s if you take them very seriously.

1. Mandatory camp drills

Trying to transform from a sleep-loving student into a disciplined soldier during the early morning drills is like watching a caterpillar attempt to morph into a butterfly before having coffee. The synchronized jumping jacks, push-ups, and jogging in formation can quickly turn into a chaotic comedy of missteps, confused directions, and accidental collisions. But hey, at least you’ll all be in it together, looking like a herd of caffeinated penguins on a mission.

2. Language barrier blunders

If you’re posted to a region with a local dialect different from your own, get ready for some language mishaps that’ll have you laughing in no time. From mistakenly ordering a goat instead of a goat meat pepper soup to inadvertently proposing to someone’s grandmother while trying to ask for directions, these linguistic misadventures will definitely keep you humble and entertained.

RomanceHow Casual Sex May Be Shifting Intimacy, Emotional Connection by Azeemokoya(op): 8:12pm On Aug 09, 2023
The rise of casual sex, while liberating in some ways, is quietly eroding or washing away the emotional connection that once defined experiences between lovers.

It is important to state first that this post is not about moral judgment or finger-pointing. It is a reflection on the shifting sands of human interaction, where the lines between emotional connection and fleeting pleasure are becoming increasingly blurred.

Back in the day, sex and emotion were seen together as a given. It was an unspoken understanding that when two individuals shared an intimate moment, they were also building a unique emotional bond.

But as partners begin to engage in casual sex, they find themselves at a crossroads – one where the heart and body are often moving in different directions.

Casual sex, on its surface, promises liberation from traditional norms. And although it offers a chance to explore physical desires without the weight of emotional baggage, yet, beneath this enticing show lies a paradox – the very act that was once a way to build emotional closeness is now challenging the depth of connection it can offer.

RomanceMen, Here’s Why You Must Also Be Hypergamous by Azeemokoya(op): 9:30am On Aug 02, 2023
One term that often comes up in discussions about choosing our preferences for dating and eventually marriage is “hypergamy.”
Hypergamy, in its simplest sense, refers to the practice of marrying or forming relationships with individuals of a higher social or economic status, something I will call “dating or marrying up”.

Hypergamy has been a term used to describe the tendency of some women to seek partners who possess higher social or economic status than themselves.

It’s important to understand that hypergamy is not about gold-digging or seeking material gains. Instead, it has evolutionary roots, where women historically sought partners who could provide stability and security for their offspring.

While societal norms have evolved over time, the influence of hypergamy may still manifest in modern relationships.

RomanceLadies, Here’s Why Having Even Your Money May Not Make Your Man Respect You by Azeemokoya(op): 2:34pm On Jul 31, 2023
These days, more and more women are taking jobs, working their ways to become independent, without needing to depend on their partners for money.

One of their motivations seems to be that their men will respect them, owing to the belief that men do not want to marry a liability as a wife.

While it is good for women to have their money, as it gives them a sense of security and personal responsibility, believing that having money or being independent will make a man respect you may not necessarily be so.

Respect, I think, is an intrinsic quality — you cultivate it and it becomes part and parcel of you. This is because there are women who work so well for themselves and even in marriage, yet still get disrespected by their men.

In the same vein, there are women who do not have much money but are still respected by their men. You should know what I am driving at now.

FoodThe Top 10 Most Overrated Foods In Nigeria by Azeemokoya(op): 10:16pm On Jul 20, 2023
From the tantalizing suya to the finger-licking pounded yam, Nigerians cannot be short of delicious delicacies to whet their appetite.

But in the midst of all these culinary wonders, there are some foods that have been praised a little too much.

Here I’ve brought before you the top 10 most overrated foods in Nigeria!
1. Fufu

Fufu is just pounded yam with body odour. Now, don’t come at me with pitchforks, but fufu is essentially a sidekick to the main star of the show: the soup! It’s bland and unremarkable, but somehow it manages to overshadow the vibrant flavors of the soup it’s paired with.

2. Moi Moi

Don’t get me wrong, Moi Moi is a classic side dish that can elevate any meal. But let’s be real – it’s basically a fancier bean cake. People rave about it like it’s the secret to eternal happiness, but I think it’s just overhyped bean mush. Sorry, Moi Moi fans!

3. Akara

Another member of the bean party, Akara, is like Moi Moi’s distant cousin. Fried bean balls that everyone loses their minds over? Hmm, I’d rather save my excitement for something a bit more adventurous.
