Bede2u: that coup was everything....it changed everything.
There where 5 provinces in the east...onitsha, owerri, ogoja, rivers and calabar. Their capital where also the cities the provinces where named after...except rivers which had ph as capital.
If the provinces where given increased revenue according to derivation, we would have had 6 highly developed cities in the east...that would have reduced agitation as most ppl will leave the villages and move to the cities and stopped playing clannish politics.
By now most peeps from niger delta would have been speaking fluent igbo...and reasoning like igbo ppl. The capital of Owerri was Umuahia. Is like Abakiliki was the one of Ogoja. |

Bede2u: nzeogwu was an idiot whose memory should be cursed. Idiot thought nigeria was a small country he could control...he didnt appreciate the strenght of the north. Today, the east could have at least been wat lagos is to nigeria today..the richest zone...where the money is.
Enugu and ph could have been like abuja and lagos. The east had it all...but it wasnt enough...nzogwu and his goons wanted more...they got death instead. Curse their memory. Am sad now Nzogwu wasn't the initiator of the coup and had no intention of becoming the leader of Nigeria. The real plotters are from the southwest and they had the intention of killing all the then leaders including Zik and Ironsi, freeing Awolowo from jail and making him the prime minister. Nzogwu bought the idea as he was a fan of Awolowo and thought that what he was doing was right. Not knowing that it could be devastating. |

pazienza: What braggadoccio do you speak of? I simply debunked his many allegations against Ndi Anambra.
Okpara was Zik henchman. Whatever peace he enjoyed in East,or leverage at the centre that ensured the East stayed on top of its game, it was Zik who afforded him that. Okpara was a solid leader, but Zik was the overall leader who marshalled out aims and objectives of the NCNC party, go figure. Okpara was a member of Zikism movement. Let that sink in.
I didn't subtly project any thing. Zik was the Igbo leader in the era in discuss. He was the one with the plans. Without Zik, there wouldn't be an indigenous ran Eastern region for Okpara to even lead,to begin with. No need of this comparison. |

InyinyaAgbaOku: Igbo as a unit is a recent thing, same as Yoruba, to an extent. However, even though, many features are common to the whole group, each tribe in Igboland has distinct customs and stories of origins . That of Eri is used for academic purposes for unification , however, that Eri must never be confused with the biblical Eri, which is even pronounced differently. That's my point. Hmmmmm. some people are talking poo here. How recent is Igbo that Equano of 15th century and the Portugese that made the 1st contact in 12th century acknowledged the name, Heebo, Ebo, Ibo and Igbo. Igbo as name is as old as Egypt. Igbo is not recent as you claimed and we have some ancient clans that bear name such as Igbo-ukwu (Anambra), Ama-igbo (Imo), Igbouzo (Delta), Igbo-etiti (Enugu), Obigbo, Umuigbo (Rivers), Igbo-emena (Cross-river) and Igbo-eze (Enugu). |

Afam4eva: I've noticed that we Igbos don't think big. We're always myopic in our thinking, that's why someone can say that Obosi and Orji are not in Onitsha and Owerri respectively when cities outgrow their current limit and become bigger with time. As far as i'm concerned Owerri stretches as far as Ogbaku in Mbaitoli Loca government. Let's think big and stop making our cities look like little hamlets. Correct. If Obosi and Orji are not parts of Onitsha and Owerri respectively, it means that the two towns has not gotten up to a city size and should not be accorded a city status. |

odogwu125: 2Kings 17: 5 - 6 The king of Assyria (Shalmaneser) invaded the entire land, marched against samaria and laid siege to it for three years. In the ninth year of Hoshea (king of northern Kingdom of Israel) the king of Assyria capture Samaria and deported the Isrealites to Assyria. He settled them in Halah, in Goazan on the Habor River and in the towns of the Medes.
According to world history, Samaria fell to the Assyrians in 722 BC. That was when 9 tribes in Israel were lost remaining Judah, Benjamin and Levi. Some people from the tribe of Gad probably wandered down here during this scattering period. Possibly those who fled from the Assyrians during the siege ie those living in the open villages and not inside the walled cities that were undet siege. This is my own hypothesis They later came back after the fall of Babylon and rebuilt Jeruselem. |

pazienza: Are you sure about the Ndokis? Because I know they are not that old. Their history is known.
I think in antiquity, the Isus should be the oldest in Igboland.
They exist in Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Anioma. I don't know of any Isu town in Igboid Rivers.
Many Isu people don't even know that they are Isu.
I think something must have happened to the Isu civilization in the past, causing them to scatter and lose their identity. Perhaps the entrance of new groups into their area, who overwhelmed them in battle. I'm very sure bro |

pazienza: The little I know about Ekpo is that is prevalent in Imo and Abia parts of Igboland, and is some how related to Cross riverian culture, just like Ekpe.
Can someone clear me on this? Mmanwu is totally different from Ekpo which originated from Ejagham, Cross river. Ekpo has a wooden caved marsk (i.e face) like the one shown by Mr. Kenneth and it's predominant in Abia, Ebonyi and Enugu while Mmanwu mostly predominant in Orlu axis of Imo and some of part Anambra is designed abroad, very colourful without marsk and it's faceless and eyeless. Their voices sound like whistle. In the middle part of their front they have something like rug that runs from the head to the toe. some contain mirrors all over their bodies. They might be short or very tall. The short ones are known as AKAKPO while the tall ones are called OPI-OGOLO. |
